I really should have placed a bet on this.
I corrected the party location two days ago and my sisters claimed to never have heard about my plans after it changed from "im not gonna do anything".
So none of them came, not even my mom.
But my crush hugged me to wish me a happy birthday, he's a good hugger and it made me feel a lot better.
One of my sisters came...but like I suspected they didn't bother to use their energy on a collective birthday present like we usually do for big birthdays. Kind of a bummer because I put so much thought and money into their big birthdays.
Maybe my 30s should be about finally putting my family where they put me...far down on the list of important things.
I'm beyond tired of always being there for them but having to beg for them to be there for me.
My family has unintentionally been given the biggest test.
My cousin confused my sister and my birthday and thought it was August 5th, when really it's August 25th. It's not like she's been on this earth for 40 years and it's been my sisters birthday for 43 years...but what an unimportant little detail.
Even before my grandma passed away, I said for my 30th birthday, I just have whoever wants want to come in the evening on the 24th for some food, some music and drinks to toast my birthday at midnight, then I'd go out to dinner with my parents and grandma at noon, and that would be my entire birthday. No interest in anything bigger.
When grandma died, I said my plans didn't change, I'd only go to dinner with my parents. But I had already "invited" a few others for that evening before. A colleague, a friend, a cousin who isn't here a lot.
So yesterday we got an official invite to my cousin's housewarming party. On August 24th, starting 5pm.
I'm like 95% sure everyone will chose that party over my get together but I'm really curious to see how this turns out.
#just to be clear this isnt a money thing where I want more expensive things or whatever#in my family it's just tradition to do big birthdays a little bit bigger than any ordinary one#we usually put money together and buy the birthday kid something bigger. something they've wanted for a long time but couldnt afford alone#or for my parents we'd plan them a party and pay for everything#3 years ago my sister got gifted a surf class on the north sea with a one week stay at a hotel#where we paid a large sum of it and even arranged the dates according to her work schedule#i wasnt even expecting them to do anything at all but not even showing up did disappoint me#my cousin put so much thought into his gift...he gifted me everything my grandma would always give me of her groceries#like random things shed always have there for each of us...#my colleague collected pictures of us together through the festival planning and made a collage of it#and my friend gave me a hoodie with a Gilmore girls quote I'd say to her for the last 12 years at least
