i'm sorry but this borgias book is so fucking funny. the twist IS that cesare and lucrezia were fuckening and it becomes BLATANTLY obvious in the latter half of the book but lucrezia has to spell it out like a scripp's spelling bee contestant for the main character in the last 20 pages and she's still somehow like

#like cesare gets a fever and calls out for lucia #and the mc is like who is this lucia #and micheletto gaslights her about it so hard #he's like you're talking nonsense shhhhhh #also despite being from spain #esther/donata/violante somehow can't figure out that cesare and lucrezia keep referring to each other by the catan version of their names #and then esther #who everyone says looks like lucrezia #is with cesare when he has his fever and he's like give me your shoes so i can cut them so you can dance #and then he cuts her shoes and kisses her #while calling her lucia #and then she goes to lucrezia's room and realizes her shoes are cut the same way #and she's like hmm i wonder what this could mean #girl you are in a story #lucrezia having a breakdown about cesare doing literally anything without consulting her #esther: huh they sure are close #lucrezia: if i don't wear this ring with pieces of our hair forever entwined i will die #esther: huh #it's a very good book i promise this character just drives me insane #*CATALAN VERSION NOT CATAN #i wish i could edit tags jesus
