watched dune last night. the middle eastern orientalism goes crazy apparently.
#tbh like its not a bad movie like the soundtrack bangs and the cinematography and drone shots are really cool#but timothee chalamet is just an unserious person and actor to me that every time he spoke i just did not care#doesnt help that the character he plays is a colonizer#so i just kinda hoped he dies the whole time#and maybe im not reading it right but like the whole idea of the atreides or whatever being the “good” colonizers#because they wanted a trade deal/agreement#vs the harkonnens being the “bad” colonizers. like yes objectively the ways they treated the fremen and the planet were and are bad#but that doesnt make any other kind of colonization “better” or “less violent”#and making paul the main character/protagonist kinda makes it feel like that the atriedes are so much better than the harkonnens which is#Not True.#maybe part 2 will be different and i do want to watch it just to see where it goes. and also because the sand worms are cool#but overall i really just do nawt care about paul and his family and his house#sorry thats a whole rant but whatever
