wondering if it’s this city or this phd program or both that have a way of consuming your entire consciousness and making you forget there’s a world outside of it

#i’m starting pre-dissertation research and want to be excited about that #but at the same time [other thing] and [other thing] have to be done this quarter and [high stakes exam] has to be passed #and my plans for this year would have been ambitious even if we hadn’t lost 6 weeks to the strike and several more in the return-to-normal #but lately it’s feeling like even if I used up every waking hour I’d still be behind and staring down an exam I feel ill-prepared for #and like. fwiw even with all the frustrations I’ve always enjoyed grad school until this year #but something about this year feels absolutely cursed
