thinking about ariel and irving and feeling insane. bashing my head into a wall in fact
#irving was the closest thing he has to a father + was his mentor and ariel was his favored student#but he’s literally a shitty old man and ariel has complicated feelings about him later. like irving sucks#like he’s really REALLY angry at him for not doing anything to help jowan and had no issue with withholding the fact that jowan was#planning to escape#ugh i do think that irving’s teachings weren’t JUST about magic - im sure if it weren’t for duncan recruiting for the grey wardens he +#would’ve had the mage warden succeed him as first enchanter so they would know how to play the political game#so ariel definitely would’ve had training in diplomacy leadership cunning skills etc etc etc#and let me tell u It Does Show. irving’s lessons weren’t for nothing#but i think what makes them different is is that irving has no compassion and is callous and sacrifices apprentices to protect the others#while ariel is not like that at all but at the same time he’s not endlessly compassionate and understanding and kind#and having compassion and care to those who deserve it and knowing when to be gentle is one of his strengths#he has the capacity to be ruthless too#i have so many thoughts i will do a whole meta on this eventually#hc.
