Summary: Transferring to Stark Academy that has only allowed to take in female students last semester, you realize you are just one of three young women among hundreds of students. Your things are constantly being stolen, and soon you begin fearing for your safety.

After you came back to your room, you got a message from Steve about changing the locks on both you door and your locker. You were so taken aback by today's conversation in the student council room that you had completely forgotten about it. Apparently, Steve had already requested the change of locks on your behalf through email, and you were really grateful to him for that: you dreaded coming back to the room that had been forced open. Of course, tonight you would have to move your dresser to the door so that nobody could enter when you'd be sleeping.

Shit. It was absolutely crazy.

"I'm not sure about all this, Steve." You texted him while laying on your bed and staring at your phone in the darkness of the room. "It doesn't seem right."

Naturally, you meant the fake dating thing. It felt horrible thinking of what others would think after seeing you with five different guys. Would they be calling you a whore in the open? Make some nasty jokes behind your back? Report you to the school administration for immoral behavior? Remembering those bigots from the student office, you cringed at the thought.

Besides, it still didn't make sense to you why you had to date all five. Sure, if they were around you at all times like your friends, these unhinged bastards who stole your things wouldn't do anything funny again, but it wasn't like that. What could one guy do against a group of other students?

"Listen, I didn't want to talk about it in class, but I'm worried it won't end with a stolen lingerie."

You didn't like his message.

"What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean. They might attempt something much worse than a theft."

Oh no. Was he talking about rape? Seriously? Did he anticipate others were so crazy they would do something like that?

But then again, girls were being raped in colleges even if it weren't the all-boys schools. A shiver ran down your spine.

"But if several people attack me, just one of you won't be enough." You typed with your shaky fingers, trembling beneath your blanket.

"It's not about the pure force. Each of us has a certain reputation, and others wouldn't want to cross us over because of it."

Wait, this was interesting. What on Earth did he mean? What kind of reputation was that to prevent people from messing with them?

"Thor is a good athlete and a great leader, his basketball team is ready to beat people to death for him."

"Loki's father is one of academy’s main sponsors, and he can have this school turned upside down if he wants to."

"Bucky is a threat by himself, but he also have a company of loyal friends."

"I don't think Peter is serious enough to scare anyone, but with his computer skills he could easily blackmail others, I’ve already seen him doing it. Students would be wary to cross him over just like any of us."

Steve was writing you a bunch of messages with a terrifying speed, and you could barely read the first when he was already sending you the second. It felt absolutely insane. Did he choose every guy because the more powerful admirers you have, the less others would intervene? Well, at least in case of Bucky and Thor who could beat people to near death, it was wise. You preferred not to think of Peter - you had no idea someone as sweet and caring as him did something as disgusting as a blackmail.

“But what others will think? 5 boyfriends? Others will think you are dating-” you paused, chewing your lips to bit, “- a whore. Nobody gonna stood up for me.”

"Imagine if each of us tells our friends that other four guys were just asked to watch over you, but you date only one.”

Oh. Yes, this was slightly better. Then you wouldn’t have to do something as bold as kissing every guy in public, instead maintaining the mystery who you were really dating.

Damn, how Steve even came up with this plan? Why was everything so complicated?

“It’s getting late. Good night.” Your phone vibrated again, and you huffed with irritation. You hoped you could ask him a bit more - about what you were going to do with the thieves Steve found, for example - but he was probably getting tired with all your questions. It was better to ask him tomorrow.

The next morning you were restless: since you were starting to going out with guys, you felt like you needed to look better than you usually were, so you spent your morning working on your hair and makeup. It was like fake dating, right? You had to pretend you wanted to look pretty for them.

What else did you have to do? Cook something sweet for them? Yeah, probably, but not at the start of your relationship. Going to cafe together? Helping each other study? Loki also mentioned the cinema...

You felt dumb. Of course, you dated guys before, but now you realized you had no idea how to act not to cause any suspicion. Oh boy, it was going to be a tough day.

Thor nocked at you door thirty minutes before your first session, but you woke up so early you were more than ready to go. As you opened the door, first moving the dresser back to its place, the guy looked at you with a puzzled expression on his face.

"Hey, what was that?"

"The dresser. I can't leave the door just like that until the lock is changed."

He blinked at you, watching the door and then probably remembering somebody forced the lock open to steal your underwear.

"These guys are batshit crazy." He mumbled and nodded you to go with him, putting his hand on your shoulder. "Don't worry, they won't do it again."

You wanted to argue they definitely would, but, seeing his warm smile, you thought Thor simply wanted to cheer you up and smiled at him in return. In the end, he was here only to make you feel safer: you didn't doubt he was very popular with the girls every time he went out to the city.

"You look great today!" He said sheepishly, walking in the dorm's corridor while other students were staring at him silently, obviously surprised to see you two together. "I mean, not that you looked bad yesterday, I just..."

Watching his face suddenly getting crimson red, you couldn't help but giggle at his expression. You could never think Thor was actually bashful around girls. Yeah, at your old place he'd definitely be one of the most popular guys around.

It was lunch time when you two could actually talk, sitting together at the same table and being watched by everyone around. Strangely, with Thor constantly talking and often rubbing your hand with his, it didn't feel suffocating, and you held your head high: regardless whether those pricks were looking at you, you weren't going to run away to your room and cry there like a little girl. Loki was right: you weren't a silly little sheep, scared of your own shadow. You wouldn't let anyone spoil your time in the academy you dreamt studying in.

Funny enough, Thor turned out to be a talkative type when he was speaking about basketball and his team in particular. He loved sports: while you were more into hockey, the way he talked was so enthusiastic it made you listen to him with a genuine interest. Thor's love for basketball was infectious.

He seemed a simple man, this giant bag of muscles who was laughing so loud people around him flinched; Thor wasn't the exact type of a guy you would encounter on your own, but he seemed nice, sincere, and surprisingly softhearted. You felt at ease talking to him, and soon you too acted like you'd known each other for long.

It was a pity you'd only met under this circumstances. It felt like you two could became friends.

But then when Thor absent-mindedly put his arm around your shoulders, you remembered Loki's warning: they would try to gain your favors. Was it the reason Thor was so nice to someone he just met? Wasn't it suspicious of him? You couldn't let your guard down after just one lunch together. In fact, you knew nothing of the man sitting in front of you.

"I knew something like would happen." Some guy to your left sighed loudly, catching your attention. "They were fucking crazy."

"I'm not surprised either. I just wanna know who they got in a fight with to be beaten like that. Have you heard they broke Gray's both legs?"

"Woah, both? That's brutal, man."

You shivered, trying not to listen to them.

"It'd happen sooner or later anyway. They were completely wild."

A word caught your attention right away: that was what Steve called those students who were stealing your things. Could it be a coincidence? Surely, in an all-boys school the students were fighting each other constantly.

But to the point of breaking both legs of someone? Really?

As you sent Thor a nervous look, he gently patted your shoulder, lowering his voice so no one would hear him, "I'm sure it's nothing to do with you. These things happen here from time to time because the guys have no idea what to do with all that testosterone."

You hoped he was right.

The rest of the day went as usual aside from Thor walking the corridors with you and chatting about sports: he managed to convince you to come see the game next month when they would be having a tournament. You were grateful to him for helping to ease your mind because the news of guys being sent to the ambulance made you shook. Steve also mentioned something about his and other's friends ready to beat anyone to death, right?

By the middle of your last class you couldn't think of it any longer and quickly typed a message to Loki. Of all people, right now he seemed the most sincere to you.

"Hi. Are the guys who were beaten last night are the ones who stole my things?"

Waiting was a special torture when you held the phone in your arms beneath your desk, hoping to see your screen lighting up with a message. In five minutes you got your reply.

"Yes." The message said simply, but it was enough for you to stare at your phone with horror, wishing you didn't ask Loki anything.

Oh shit. It wasn't a coincidence, right? It's impossible. Somebody did it on purpose. But who of the five?

"Do you know who did it?"

Next time he answered pretty fast, "No."

A part of you felt relieved. Maybe it wasn't related, finally. Maybe they got beaten by somebody who was fed up with their attitude because they were crazy as the guys in the cafeteria said.

But what if it weren't true?

"Who's the most brutal among you five?"

Biting your lips, you started rocking in your chair a little, making the guy on your left to roll his eyes in irritation.

The phone's screen flashed again.

"Barnes."

WRITTEN CHAPTER

an - everyone say thank you atsumu <3

y/n shuffled reluctantly over to her door and slowly opened it to reveal a concerned looking atsumu with a plastic bag in one of his hands.

nothing was said between the pair as y/n moved out the way to let him in. he placed the bag down on the coffee table nearby and turned to the girl. still nothing said between the two, atsumu pulled her into his chest as y/n sobbed quietly into his t-shirt.

after 2 minutes of y/n quietly hiccuping and allowing her tears to fall, atsumu pulled away and looked down at her sighing.

“ya know, ya really worry me sometimes.”

y/n could only nod slightly as she wiped away the tears remaining on her cheeks as she finally registered the plastic bag on the table.

“what's that?” she mumbled gesturing towards the coffee table.

atsumu smiled slightly and picked it up to bring to the larger dining table.

“samu couldn't sleep till he felt like he did somethin for ya. believe it or not, he’s just as worried as me and everyone else. i had to force shouyo and bokkun not to follow me.”

guilt strung through y/n’s chest as she apologised quietly before sitting down opposite the pro player.

“don't apologise, its understandable, i’m just glad ya even opened the door for me.”

“i know you would've stood there all night if i didn't.”

atsumu smiled towards the athletics trainer and began to take out the contents inside. osamu had cooked multiple types of onigiri. ones he knew atsumu liked and ones he knew y/n liked.

the two ate in a comfortable silence as atsumu allowed the girl to gather her thoughts. the last thing he wanted to do was pressure her into talking to him about what she was thinking and feeling. he knew she would eventually tell him anyway he had all the time in the world for her to tell him.

10 minutes of a slightly warmer atmosphere between them, y/n sniffled and turned away.

“y/n?” atsumu reached over softly.

“no -shit. i-i’m sorry. this is so pathetic i shouldn't even be crying over this, i should've seen it coming from the start.”

ah so she was in the stage of self blame.

“y/n, none of this was your fault okay?”

the girl didn't care at this point and let her tears flow down her cheeks freely as she turned back to face the artificial blonde.

“yeah b-but if i’d just maybe gotten through to him better or maybe just i don't know -broken up with him, none of this would've happened!”

the setter watched as he let y/n let her emotions out. he didn't plan on riling her up. he needed her to get out whatever she was holding in so he could get through to her on a clearer mind.

“y/n, listen to me.”

stopping her quiet sobs for a moment, y/n looked up at a very genuine looking atsumu.

“i get yer a people pleaser and you’d rather take responsibility when somethins not even yer fault but, none of this was yer fault.” atsumu watched as y/n visibly relaxed at the sound go his voice.

this was a start.

he sighed and took her hands into his one and gave them a light squeeze.

“but, i don't believe this was oikawa’s either.”

y/n’s eyes widened slightly as she opened her mouth to object but atsumu didn't give her the chance.

“ah- i know ya probably think i’m just sayin that to stop you from arguing anymore but listen to me.”

the girl relaxed back into her chair, and nodded slightly for atsumu to continue.

“i know ya don't want to look at the picture, in fact its probably the last thing yer gonna wanna look at, but from what it looks to me, its one-sided. ya can tell he’s clearly uncomfortable and in shock.’

y/n frowned slightly trying to remember the awful photo but her memory was so blurred from the strong emotion and endless tears she couldn't actually remember oikawa’s expression in the photo.

“he still met up with her though.”

atsumu sighed and ran a hand through his slightly messy hair.

“yeah but personally i think he did the right thing. i know its gonna be hard to see things from his point of view but, he handled this well. sure, he wasn't flawless when it came to communication with ya but ya gotta give him some credit for going out his way. he has a lot going on right now and the last thing he probably wanted was a twitter war between his fans, reporters, her fans and herself. seeing her in person was probably one of the best ways to make it clear he wanted nothin to do with her.”

y/n didnt speak for a few moments as she registered what the boy in front of her had just said. yeah it was easy to get angry at how the situation had turned out but was that really all oikawa’s fault.

“atsumu-” y/n began with a shaky breath.

“i get that you’re trying to help me but what you don't know is that he tried to turn this on us. he accused me of cheating with you even though his only source of evidence was fake tabloids that have obviously reached for any material they can to feed off our names. like i said to him, how can he accuse me of cheating when he has no evidence but there’s actual evidence of him with another girl and he’s insistent i believe that he’s been faithful to me.”

atsumu raised an eyebrow to this. oikawa really read those stupid tabloids? they were obviously fake, hell, the same reporters had even written a few tabloids linking him to sakusa much to the latters disgust.

“but is that picture really evidence? i mean, from what it looks like he’s not into it and she’s the one initiating it. i’m not sayin what he said was fair but he’s probably frustrated and panickin. i’m not tellin ya to forgive him right now, but try to talk to him again when you've got yer thoughts together a bit more. it’s not fair to argue with him while yer both under a lot of pressure and emotions. i know for a fact that boy loves ya and ya know it too, ive never seen such a sappy and gross couple before whether yer like it or not this isn’t somethin yer gonna break up over.”

y/n hated to admit it but atsumu was right. maybe she had been a little unfair to pounce at oikawa straight away and hardly give him the chance to explain fully what had happened. had she been stupid enough to forget that oikawa struggles with stress and pressure and was prone to breaking down when things got to much.

a new wave of guilt washed over the girl as she closed her eyes and brought her head down to her knees.

“i feel awful now, oh my- i don't even want to imagine how he’s feeling right now fuck.”

atsumu stood up and crouched down in front of the now panicking y/n.

“look at me.”

glassy eyes stared into atsumu’s.

“we’ll try and get ya to meet him tomorrow, even if ya talk over the phone or somethin, but not tonight, it’s late and yer both need to rest yeah? i’ll stay on yer couch tonight but ya should get ready for bed and try to sleep.”

y/n thanked her lucky stars that she’d been blessed enough to have someone like miya atsumu storm into her life.

she nodded and shuffled to her room to get ready as atsumu wandered over to the couch with a satisfied smile.

after 5 minutes, y/n came back to bid the setter a goodnight and an offer to return back to his room.

“nah, don't wanna leave ya just in case ya wake up stressed or somethin, i’ll be here i’m not going anywhere just call me if ya need me.”

y/n smiled and gave the setter a tight hug.

“thanks tsumu. you’re a lifesaver.”

“i know.”

the girl laughed slightly and pulled away before muttering one last good night to the boy who nodded and waved back smiling.

things had been rough today sure, but atsumu had managed to force her to see things from oikawa’s point of view and even take majority of the balme off of him. she was still angry sure, but things were different now. the anger totally directed towards oikawa had been redirected to herself and sakai but y/n could live with that.

the same way oikawa promised to fix things, y/n made a silent promise to herself that she too would fix things. she just had to wait for a new day to do it properly, the worst had passed all she could do now was move forward and the girl decided to take her first step that very second as she grabbed her phone.

Bear 100 🐻 Race Report: You Have to Run the Downhills

The past isn’t made of facts, not really, just stories people tell to make themselves feel better.

Dear Reader: why are you reading this race report?

I. META-STUFF ABOUT RACE REPORTS: When you finish a race like the Bear 100 (by which I mean wrapping up the weekend, whether your efforts got you an official finish or a drop somewhere along the course), you are left with an enormous heap of impressions and recollections and thoughts and analyses and excuses and explanations. Most of these are true, but they are not all necessarily coherent when combined with all the rest, and (more importantly) they are not always helpful. The job of writing a race report like this involves sorting through all of these thoughts and selecting a coherent narrative that makes sense.

That’s the easy part. A lot of possible, true, narratives make sense. How to choose among them? If you plan to enter races like this one in the future (as I do), the narrative that you construct in your race report will be also be useful to you later, guiding you to make better decisions for future races based on your experiences in this one. This process will inevitably favor some impressions and analyses over others, and as the memories of the race fade, the race report will harden into the Narrative Story of My Race, which will be coherent, true, and (if I do it right) helpful to me in future races.

As an example of the difference between helpful and unhelpful stories, an unhelpful story might be, “I didn’t do as well in this race as I’d hoped because I have no natural talent” or “the aid stations stocked Heed and Heed is disgusting.” These might both be true, but if that’s your story, how do you fix it? You can’t, so it’s not helpful. Heed is ubiquitous at aid stations in races all over the country. A helpful story, in contrast, might be something like, “I didn’t eat enough” or “I started too fast” or “I wore the wrong shoes” or “I didn’t do enough weekly mileage to prepare for this race.” All of these things are something you can act upon to get better results at the next race.

II. THE UNFOLDING OF THE RACE: I got out of bed at 0350 and was full of coffee and on the start line by 0600. It was still dark. Chilly but not cold. I was unfortunately wearing the New Balance Minimus shoes that I’d driven to Logan in, because I’d forgotten to pack the actual Salomon S-Lab Sense 8s that I wanted to use for the first twenty mile section. Making do!

I was somewhere in the middle of the pack when we finished the three or four blocks of residential street and funneled into the single track trail headed up Logan Dry Canyon. The conga line wasn’t too annoying, except for the guy ahead of me who was one of those guys who like to play music on speakers during a race so everyone around him can share his obvious love for Rob Zombie. The view of Logan as we got higher and the sun rose was spectacular. (Most people are still pretty energetic during this section so you’ll find videos of this aplenty on YouTube if you search for “Bear 100.”)

I should mention the hornets. There were a lot of them along the course all day and they were stinging people left and right. I’m used to living a charmed life, so I was not too surprised when the hornets spared me. Thank you, hornets.

After the initial long climb there are some rollers and I ran them easily. My downhill pace was much faster than most of the crowd I’d been with on the way up. A Utah resident named Kalina ran with me for a while and kept me from doubting my judgment that I was going downhill at a reasonable pace. Alas! This was the last time I’d pass a significant number of people (this is called ‘foreshadowing’).

Near the end of the rolling section Kalina dropped me and everyone else around her like a sack of potatoes on some short uphills and I never saw her again. She ended up finishing in around 27 hours (maybe I should have doubted my judgment). We meandered over to the big downhill into Leatham Hollow and I am sad to report that halfway down this beautiful descent I was losing the ability to run downhill. Basically leg and knee and foot pain with everything tightening up. And so it had begun — people passing me. So it would continue.

I got out of the the Leatham Hollow aid station with 5:04 elapsed, which was pretty much on my best-case-scenario pace for the overall race. I had my first drop bag there with beefier shoes, so I put them on, ditched the long shirt I wore at the start in favor of a tank top, and moved on.

Next was a flat-ish dirt road over to the Richards Hollow aid station, about three miles away (23-ish race miles total). It was mid-day and it was now hot in the sun but still cool in the shade. I tried the trick of running the shady parts and hiking the sunny parts. After the aid station the course settles into the classic Bear 100 pattern: low aid station, then big climb and descent to the next aid station. This climb was sunny and hot and I got up ok, but the next downhill was a mess. I couldn’t PAY people to not pass me. That’s what happens when you’re not running the downhills! I came into Cowley Canyon aid station knowing that a 30-hour finish was unlikely but, hey, a finish of any kind is still fabulous. I took a little longer in the aid station then I’d like on a good day, but then was off.

The Bear 100 pattern of up-down continued through the Right Hand Fork and Temple Fork aid stations. The little creek going into Right Hand Fork had some of the most beautiful beaver ponds I’ve ever seen: clear water that let you see right to the bottom with bright green plants floating on top. Another thing about Right Hand Fork — there was a pickup truck in the parking lot with big white lettering on the windows: Search Dog, Do Not Disturb. I looked closely at the truck but couldn’t see the search dog. Needless to say I was mildly disappointed (this is another example of foreshadowing).

I had pretty much been suffering ever since Richards Hollow but I started to feel a little bit better coming into Temple Fork just before it got dark. This was probably just a function of it not being hot any more. I was off pace but dealing with it. Physically feeling generally weak and miserable but mentally very sharp, and emotionally pretty stable. I got my headlamp out of my drop bag, put on a long-sleeve shirt, a light hat, and a wind jacket for the chill that set in immediately when the sun went down, and headed uphill again.

III. THE DROP: Climbing up to the Twin Creek aid station at the about the 50-mile mark (the Tony Grove substitute aid station for 2021) it was predictably dark and, thanks to the dry air, quickly getting colder and colder. The good vibes quickly fell away. I wasn’t able to eat anything because of nausea, so progress was reasonably slow up the climb. Some runners about twenty feet ahead of me startled a beaver and I heard its tail slap against the water of its pond. (And, since I remember it clearly now, at least I must not have been completely delirious then.) So long as I was climbing I was warm enough, but the nausea was getting worse and worse, and if I tried to fight the nausea by taking my foot off the gas a bit, I quickly got too cold and started shivering. I was stuck between my GI tract requiring that I decrease my physical exertion so it could start to function again, and a dependence on continued exertion to generate enough heat. A catch-22 that most people who’ve run a 100-mile race will probably recognize.

When I got into the aid station at Twin Creek, I went into the warmed tent with the intention of relaxing for fifteen minutes to half an hour to give my stomach an opportunity to wake up. (Was that a mistake?) The plan was to eat and drink some things, put on some warmer clothes from my drop bag, and get out. Depending on who I talked to, it was somewhere between 12 and 14 miles to the next aid station at Franklin basin. This was the longest distance between any two aid stations in the race. I still had plenty of time before the cutoff.

Sadly, fifteen and then thirty minutes came and went and I was not recovering. The nausea wouldn’t go away and I was still shivering vigorously even in the warming tent after I’d put on warmer clothes and gotten under a reflective space blanket. The cutoff time got closer, and the decision became more and more about whether I should set off for another 12 (let’s be optimistic) miles without any food in the stomach, to try to get to the next aid station before I got hypothermic. It was unlikely that I’d get to Franklin Basin by 2 am, which is the time I figured I had to be there to have a reasonable chance of finishing the whole race in 36 hours. Ultimately I decided that the risks weren’t worth the increasingly unlikely reward. So I dropped. Nothing too unusual here, just weighing probabilities and applying my own risk tolerance to various decisions. This is probably what most people do when they DNF a race.

IV. WHAT COULD I HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY? I think this is a mandatory question after a DNF, because I HATE drops and it’s not worth protecting my ego if it means I overlook mistakes and fail to handle the next similar situation in a better way. With the caveat that this is all in retrospect, and that my current comfort might be obscuring an accurate recollection of how feeble I was at the time, here is what I would do:

I would still wait in the aid station to give the shivering and nausea a chance to go away, but when they did not stop, before I dropped, I’d get up, put some snacks into a little bag I could take with me, and continue out of the aid station with the intention of going a half-mile down the trail to see what happened. If things were still shitty the whole way, then I could turn around and head back and I’d only have a half-mile return trip to safety.

V. THE SEARCH DOG, or, AFTER THE DROP: After two or three hours of lying on the cot in the Twin Creek aid station with a few other people and their pacers who had dropped, a guy named Rob arrived in an ATV and four of us piled in. Rob drove us down to Franklin Basin with full-bright headlights lighting up the rough two-track and the cold wind blowing in our faces. It was my first ride in an ATV! After we’d arrived at Franklin, I made sure to compliment him on his driving (he was obviously, even to an ATV virgin like me, very good at it). I immediately went into the warming tent at Franklin and settled in until I could find a ride, ideally back to my car at the Logan start line, but willing to simply be shuttled along to further aid stations if that were necessary.

Most of the people arriving to Franklin were in bad shape, and either dropped there or struggled out just ahead of the generous (in my opinion) cutoff time of 4 am. Like I said before, I doubted there was much chance of making the overall race cutoff of 6pm if you weren’t out of Franklin by 2 am, absent a resurgence of speed later in the night or when the sun came up. (There is an objective way to check if I’m wrong or not, but I haven’t done it because at this point, I don’t want to look at the results!) Anyway, most of the people leaving Franklin were leaving with their crews on the way to Beaver Creek lodge. I kept waiting for someone who could give me a ride to Logan, and the odds looked slimmer and slimmer. Well after the 4 am cutoff time, a woman walked in with a four-month-old golden retriever puppy who I immediately made friends with because the puppy wanted to chew on my hand and I let him. He wasn’t biting hard! Turns out the puppy’s owner was crewing someone who came in with her pacer around 6 am after having taken about six hours to make the trip from Twin Creek. This runner’s dad was also crewing; he asked if I needed a ride and was happy to take me back to Logan. So I struggled out of the warming tent and whoa! Remember back at Right Hand Fork aid station where I’d seen that pickup truck with ‘Search Dog, Do Not Disturb’ on the window? That was his truck, and the golden retriever puppy was his Search Dog! Turns out, he had two full-grown trained search dogs and this puppy was going to follow along after them when he grew up. So, happily, I got to ride back to my car in Logan with a very nice family and a very nice little pup.

VI. THE KIT: The most notable thing about my gear was that I wore the new High Capacity Running Vest from Naked Sports Innovations. It’s an extremely tight running vest with a front zipper. I like to call it a Sports Bra for Men. I thought it worked pretty well and I will probably wear it again. The advantages are that it’s very lightweight, you can pack a lot of shit into it if you have to, and because it’s so tight, there is zero bouncing of your water bottles or other gear when you’re running. The disadvantages are also related to its being so tight. There were times when my chest felt kind of sore, and I wondered if the vest was compressing my ribs a little too much. The other problem is that zipping it up in front can be difficult if your vest is fully loaded because, again, it’s very tight. Also, when you add layers for the night section, you have to add them on top of the vest or risk it being even tighter if you bulk up your chest with extra layers under the vest. My solution will probably be to buy another vest one size bigger for long races or when I plan to be wearing layers. It costs a lot of money, but so do other vests, and at least I’m not a triathlete so all my gear compared to that sport is CHEAP.

In addition to the vest, I also wore a Naked running band. Both the vest and the belt have good mechanisms for stashing folded-up poles. I had poles, which were very useful after thirty miles for both climbs and descents. I wore the Salomon Ultra Glide shoes for everything after the 20-mile aid station, and they worked great. Because I forgot to pack the Salomon S-Lab Sense 8 shoes that I had planned to wear at the start, I was forced to wear my New Balance Minimus shoes from the start to 20 miles, which did cause some plantar irritation and ankle soreness on the long downhill into Leatham Hollow. I think these shoes are great but only for distances less than ten miles (and never for gravelly surfaces with inch-wide rocks that can dig into your feet).

I used SkratchLabs and Ultima electrolyte mix in order to avoid the aid-station Heed (which is disgusting), and carried Spring Energy gels. I had the cheapest salt tabs I could find at REI. Goodr sunglasses and wool socks which I changed a few times. I had no blisters, no sunburn, and no injuries!

VII. THE AFTERMATH AND THE ANALYSIS: It’s never fun or satisfying to have to drop from a race. The good news is that this DNF wasn’t entirely surprising in retrospect. It was exactly what I deserved! Looking back on this summer, I basically just fucked around and did way too little preparation for this race. I had only one training run of greater than 20 miles and hadn’t raced at all this summer. I never really got out into the mountains and didn’t go up any fourteeners this year. The covid withdrawal from the world was probably part of this; I was just waiting stuff out. I had signed up for the Bear a year ago and frankly, wasn’t excited about it until about a month before the race. There were two or three weeks where I went back and forth about starting, and by the time I’d firmly decided to do it, there wasn’t enough time to actually train for it.

Another bit of good news is that unlike the Bighorn 100 where I felt I *had* to keep coming back every year until I finished that race, I do not think that way at all about the Bear 100 (probably because I’ve already finished one 100M race and I’m comfortable with not being a super-fan of 100s.) I enjoy this race and will likely come back to try it again, but I don’t feel *obliged* to.

The third bit of somewhat good news is that this failure at the Bear rekindled a bit of enthusiasm for actually preparing myself to do well at a race. On the drive home from Utah I was thinking about how I’d structure my season in order to do well at the Bear, and I think that’s a pretty good sign!

VIII. SO, HOW WOULD YOU STRUCTURE YOUR SEASON? Whatever it takes to be able to run the downhills after twenty miles! More specifically I suspect the best preparation for me for a fall 100 would be one or two 50 milers earlier in the summer. For the Bear, I would do the Pikes Peak Ultra 50M in July and maybe an earlier-season 50 like Quad Rock or Behind the Rocks. I’d probably tune up with something like the Telluride Mountain Run in August. In addition, I’d do a few more longer runs during the summer like Gold Hills or a Doug Loops or Morrison Triples, and I would do some above-treeline tundra adventures. All of this just to build a bit of endurance and let me RUN THE DOWNHILLS at the Bear. 🐻

ok so im gonna tell my story of what its like growing up with homophobic ppl, the first section is about during pride month specifically and the second part, under the cut, is my story.

THIS IS WHAT I THINK AND MY PERSPECTIVE, I AM IN NO WAY CLAIMING TO SPEAK FOR THE WHOLE LGBT COMMUNITY. IM JUST A MINOR WHOS EXPERIENCED THESE THINGS.

so, as you know if youve even briefly looked at my blog, im a part of the lgbt community (and so is my sibling). while im very proud of that part of me, i, like many ppl, have to hide it from my family.

now, the "cant go outside" part of that original post doenst mean like literally i cant step outside of my house. but we all know that rainbow capitalism is everywhere this month. theres a shopping center close to my house and whenever we pass a building that has pride stuff in the windows, my parents (dad specifically) look in pure disgust and is like "get that away from my family." i literally cant go out in public this month with my parents because whenever i do theres always some pride thing somewhere that my parents have such a look if hatred towards.

this look of loathing that they give these things feels like theyre targeted at me and my queer family and friends. doing stuff like this feels like it can really hurt lgbt youth, esp kids who are in the closet.

we're scared to come out. like, more than normal. because we know that theres next to no chance of our families being accepting.

im going to put things that many may consider triggering under the cut including religious trauma, possible abusive behavior, self-harm, and suicide. if any of the previous are a trigger for you, go ahead and scroll away. but if theyre not, i encourage you to continue and give your input.

many of us who live in conservative and/or homophobic homes grow to hate ourselves. we feel alienated by our family and feel like every time they say they love us is a lie because we know we'll most likely be kicked to the curb the second we come out.

according to the Trevor Project, "LGBTQ youth are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide than their peers" and around 1/3 of lgbt youth are rejected by their parents. The same article states that "LGB[T+] young adults who report high levels of parental rejection are eight times more likely to report attempting suicide and six times more likely to report high levels of depression" i would say that by extension, many of us have self-harmed or attempted to self-harm.

from here, im going to tell my own personal story. not for pity or anything, just so folks in similar situations wont feel as alone.

as i said, im part of the lgbt community and have been for about 5 years now. currently, i identify as an asexual nonbinary lesbian, but im still figuring things out and thats ok. i've grown up in a southern baptist community. for those unaware, baptist is a branch of christianity, and as far as ive can tell, its predominantly in the southern usa. naturally, ive been raised by very conservative "christian" parents. i spent so much time at church and stared going to middle school at a christian private school which im still attending for high school.

I realized that i was queer in 7th grade, about 5 years ago. at the time, this was a very safeguarded secret. no one knew. then the next year, i made the huge blunder of asking a girl that i thought was cute out on a date. somehow, the word of this got around to our... principal? i think? the stucture of the staff at my school is weird, so im just gonna call her ms L. now, ms l's role was called "dean of discipline" so shes the one who made the final call about punishments.

id like to add that you had to sign a document every year before starting that you agreed with the school's views, which included believing that marriage is only between a man and a woman.

so i was called into ms l's office where she interrogated me about being bi (how i identified at the time) and threatened to expel me. i denied, stating that there was a guy i liked so how could i like girls/someone else at the same time? (i was "dating" this guy as far as middle school relationships go, a couple of weeks had passed since the asking out a girl thing)

by some stupid conservative logic or miracle or something, she believed me. but man, that fucked me up.

fast foward a year, and im in high school at a drama competition thing with the drama club. we were literally a few hours away from the school and no one from a nearby school was at that event. so me and another lgbt kid started making gay jokes because... well, we were queer theatre kids surrounded by a few other queer theatre kids. some-fucking-how, this gets back to our pricipal. i still have no idea how, no one in the school drama club wouldve said anything, and the teacher was doing god knows what, and we couldve blackmailed him anyways.

literallly the day before my birthday, i get called in to the pricipals office. (another pricipal, ill call her ms d) ms d once again thratens to expel me, even though this didnt happen at the school. i told her that we were joking around (we were) but she didnt belive me because this happened before (see prev stoy)

now, i know that from reading this youre probably like "wow, nes, you acted pretty calmly for a child who was put under that much stress." well let me tell you folks, not i fucking didnt. both times i had severe panic attacks, self-harmed, and almost tried to commit suicide. my friends were trying to calm me down the second time and we got kicked out of the hall by that bitch ms d. still upset about that.

and thats only the school portion! also yes i do still attend that school even tho theyve tried to get rid of me twice, im a menace :D

now onto the ✨family portion✨ (yes this has become a way for me to vent years of trauma, leave me alone)

so some things i should say before i start telling actual stories: my dad has really bad anger issues and my mom isnt much more patient. the main difference tho is that my dad gets pretty violent easier whereas my mom will just smack us if we talk back or hit us with the belt or something. dad also yells a lot more and is 6ft 6 (198 for most ppl) and just very physically imposing.

so the first incident (once again, see first school story) my parents sat me down and started yelling at me, things like "WHY DO YOU THINK THAT YOURE X, YOURE NOT" or "THE BIBLE SAYS X, ARENT YOU A CHRISTIAN? DONT YOU BELIEVE THAT???" the whole time im sobbing so hard i can barely get a word out, much less answer their questions. no effort to comfort this 13 yr old whos clearly in distress. just yelling at them to "STOP CRYING AND ANSWER ME!!!"

repeatedly over the past ~4 years theve just sometimes sat down and asked me "do you still think youre that (derogatory) way?" and naturally when i started crying bc of past trauma they start yelling because of course they do <3

"didnt you say your dad got violent? did he ever hurt you?" yes i did say that, but luckily no, he just used it as an intimidation tactic i think. hes pretty strong so hed slam on the table or punch the wall or something to that effect before outright screaming at me for being foolish enough to "be infected by those damn gays" or something. unfortunately, this is still a fairly regular occurrence. every time they even see something remotely related to gay ppl, they drill me for "WHY DID THIS POP UP????" even if i have no control over it. best example i can think of happened a few hours ago. i was watching gravity falls with my sibling and went to the search bar to type it up. this month, disney has a little thing that says "celebrate pride!" among other things when yoou go to search. my dad turned to me and said "what was that pride thing? whyd it pop up?" i just responded "idk, i dont work on disney+"

another time this happened, it was with twitch. now, i gave my sister access to my twitch account where she followed like all the dsmp ppl. if you know anything abt the dsmp, its that there are like no str8 ppl in the fandom and virtually no str8 characters, all relationships are gay or with... like a fridge. but when no ones streaming, twich recommends you a few streamers based on the other ppl you follow i think. my dad had my phone and i had the little twitch thingy to where you could see whos live without going into the app bc my sibling would ask me. someone who popped up had the tag "lgbtqia+". never heard of this person, wasnt following them, nothing. theyd just popped up. my dad saw this, pulled me into my room and basically said "what the hell is this? why is a f*g on your screen?" and i had to explain to him how the recommended thing works, and that it was probably because they were playing minecraft. i also told him that i dont really use twitch, i just had it for my sister.

naturally, he thought i was lying and threatened to take my phone away. i just told him to give me the phone and id delete twitch, which i did.

ik this doesnt seem traumatic or whatever, but my mind has blocked out a lot of trauma and these are only what i can remember in relation to the lgbt part of me.

tl;dr: my homophobic parents are kinda fucking stupid and i have a lot of trauma from them and my homophobic school which tried to expel me twice cause i like girls.

One step forward, two steps back.

Today seemed to be the best day to sit down and write, its cold and rainy outside so I am tucked up in front of the fire with my laptop. Where to start…

On the 5th July I arrived at the hospital around lunchtime feeling quite nervous for some reason. It seemed silly at the time but maybe I was just sensing the long journey I had ahead of me. As I was taken into theatre my nerves increased until it was clear to the nurses and doctors that I wasn’t doing too well so they gave me a dose of IV Lorazepam to calm me down. As I drifted off to sleep I thought to myself – it’s ok, this is a quick and fairly simple procedure, you won’t be under for too long and they will look after your pain in recovery. Little did I know I wouldn’t wake up in recovery until three hours later. Turns out it took two surgeons 2.5 hours to clear the adhesions in my abdomen enough to be able to even reach my uterus. They were not expecting how severe the adhesions would be and during the process of clearing them my gynae surgeon make an accidental 6cm cut in my bladder. I was really upset when originally I was told that he “nicked” my bladder but then upon further questioning we found out how badly he actually had cut it. They repaired the cut and filled my bladder with saline, it sprung several leaks and so they did more repairing and then refilled and it appeared to be water-tight. My bowel surgeon found that I did not have another hernia (yay no more mesh) but where I was experiencing pain there was a section of my bowel stuck to the abdomen wall with adhesions so he has freed that in the hopes that will sort my pain out. Once all the adhesions were cleared the actual ventral suspension only took them 15 mins and went really well.

When I woke up in recovery they had my pain pretty well managed and this continued through the rest of my hospital stay – so pleased to be able to say I had a great experience with pain management this time! They didn’t do the spinal block as planned because of my sleep apnea – they use morphine in the spinal block but morphine can cause your respiratory system to become lazy which would not match well with sleep apnea. For those that don’t know what sleep apnea is – it’s basically when I have periods during sleep where I appear to stop breathing (the docs call these breathing pauses) and I developed this condition when I let my weight get out of control. But I had my PCA which kept me really comfortable.

The morning after my surgery my gynae surgeon came to see me. We talked about my bladder and how I would have to wear a catheter for at least 2 weeks to give my bladder time to start healing. He talked about this in such a blasé way that I was quite upset. In fact he actually said “look I’m a gynae surgeon, I don’t do bladders so this can happen” all while shrugging and holding his hands up in a “what are you gonna do” way. Well it’s all well and good for you to be so casual about the whole thing but you are not the one walking around with a tube shoved up your pee hole and a bag of piss strapped to your ankle! Yes I was annoyed that my bladder had been cut which completely screwed up my recovery time but I understand that the adhesions were really bad so I can’t be too annoyed at the surgeon – but it was his attitude about the situation that really pissed me off. Not to mention he fist bumped me before leaving after one visit – it really filled me with confidence in how serious he takes my health. There was an ACC form filled in which they never gave me a copy off so we are in the process of trying to track down a copy of it now. After he glossed over my bladder he then went on to tell me that the adhesions had almost completely swallowed up my left ovary to the point where he couldn’t find it and only caught a quick glimpse of it during surgery and so this combined with endometriosis and the amount of abdominal surgery I have had he doesn’t think I have a great chance of conceiving naturally now. At this point the sounds of the hospital around me seemed to stopped, I could see my surgeon looking at me waiting for my response, my heart felt like it was in my throat as hot tears poured down my face. My fertility is the one thing I have held onto and tried to protect this whole time. Any one of my doctors will tell you that when discussing anything to do with treatment or surgery my fertility is the first topic I want to cover. How could this be happening? I slowly drifted back to the present and focused on what he was saying, he was in the process of telling me that my right ovary looked great and he had tucked it up out of the way of the worst of the adhesions. I asked if there was a chance that this ovary could also be covered in adhesions before I was ready to have another baby and he said that there was no way of knowing but for now it was healthy. He said that because this ovary is still healthy there is still the chance to conceive naturally but it was very low and so I needed to prepare myself for the IVF process. I know IVF isn’t the end of the world. I know a lot of people who have done it. But it’s a long physical and emotional battle that I just don’t think I have in me. I have fought so many battles over the past three years that I really didn’t need another one. Pregnancy itself was going to be hard on its own with coming off some of my medication which controls nerve damage pain, potential issues with my j pouch and the uterine prolapse. But now I also have to have deal with the painful rollercoaster of IVF before I even get to the pregnancy battle? It’s just not bloody fair! Then of course there is the chance that the three free rounds we get are not successful and we then have to look at other options. Part of me feels like maybe it’s too much. Maybe we need to just admit that our family is complete at 3. But the pull on my heart when I think about not holding another baby in my arms is too much. I want to see Isobel’s beautiful face as she looks at her younger sibling for the first time. After all the crap we have dealt with surely we deserve this? I called Pete after the surgeon left me alone and asked him to come in and see me. I needed him to sit next to me and calm me down. To help me see straight again and get a hold of my grief. After a couple of hours of me crying on and off we decided we would give ourselves today to feel sorry for ourselves and then tomorrow I would pull up my big girl undies and get on with it. This was easier said than done and I still struggled for a couple of days to get a hold of my emotions. I am shelving this issue for now while I deal with recovering from this surgery. I will take it back down off the shelf and process it when I feel stronger.

I managed to come off my IV pain killers on day 3 in hospital and we were all planning on me getting home the next day. Unfortunately that night I spiked a temp and we couldn’t get it under control the next day. They examined me and initially diagnosed an upper- respiratory infection so they sent me down for a chest x-ray. The x-ray came back clear so they did further investigations and found that I actually had a kidney infection from the catheter. I was placed on antibiotics and I ended up spending another 6 days in hospital fighting the infection. I also developed a really bad case of oral thrush from the steroids they had me on to clear up my chest infection before the surgery. If you haven’t had oral thrush then you should count yourself lucky. It is one of the most unpleasant things I have ever dealt with.

At first your tongue and throat become covered in a thick white layer and it feels like you have something stuck in your throat which means your gag reflex is almost always triggered. Once this passes your tongue and throat lose the top layer of skin and it feels like your mouth is full of razor blades. Eating and drinking is excruciating and I spent almost a week on a liquid diet. The liquid diet was actually a life saver due to the horrible state of the food in that place. In the 9 days I was there I only managed to eat 2 meals, the rest were totally inedible.

These pictures show some of them, the ‘omelet’ in the middle was solid and rubbery, there was also solid/rubbery egg in the potato thing on the right and the pasta ‘carbonara’ on the left was just downright disgusting.

I was lucky to have some great roommates during my stay. We all kept each other’s spirits up and shared stories, I was thankful for the distraction. I was finally released on 14th July and I couldn’t wait to get home. It had been really hard on Isobel, Mum and Pete running around after me and bringing me in food etc. I am so lucky to have Mum and Pete; I would never be able to get through all of this without their support and help.

I spent 5 days at home with the catheter and I was miserable. I had almost a permanent feeling of needing to pee, the tube kept pulling when I moved the wrong way and I could only wear PJ bottoms because of the pee bag strapped to my leg. It wasn’t until two days before I got it out that I realized that not wearing underwear was better because it didn’t press the tube into strange places and let it sit where it was comfortable. I also had a bath at Mum’s which went a long way towards relieving the discomfort. On Wednesday morning they did a contrast x-ray to make sure the bladder was water-tight and on the mend. This was so horrible. They used an IV drip connected to the catheter to slowly fill my bladder up with saline and then they took a series of images. The relief when they let the saline drain back out was amazing! I went back later that day once the report was written up to have it removed. I felt like a new woman! I am in the process of re-training my bladder and I am holding onto my urine for as long as I can in order to stretch the bladder back out. They assure me there shouldn’t be any long term issues thank god.

So right now I am taking it easy and working on dropping my pain meds. The worse part of my recovery is I have really severe nerve damage again. They made 5 key-hole incisions and 2 larger incisions during the surgery. The two larger ones are low down and where they attached the uterus to my muscle. It’s those two points that have resulted in nerve damage. The pain feels like a hot poker is being jammed into my tummy each time I move. This usually takes a couple of months to settle down to a point where it doesn’t cause me too much trouble. Obviously this causes me to be really restricted in what I can do which is so frustrating. I want to try and get back to work next week as the bills keep stacking up and we just can’t survive on only Pete’s income. Although I am trying to get back to work I am going to be careful with how I go and be aware of what I am capable of. There is only 2.5 weeks until Pete’s surgery so I need to be as recovered as possible to ensure I can take over the house duties from him.

So that’s the most recent chapter in my story. I look back at all we have been through and just shake my head in wonder. How can the shit still keep coming? Is there some higher power that is messing around with our lives just to have a laugh? It’s bloody ridiculous. But nonetheless it’s the card we have been dealt and so we will continue the good fight. We just need to remind ourselves of the positives. We have each other and a roof over our heads – that’s all that really matters.

I should be doing an assignment that’s due tomorrow but ya know due tomorrow means do tomorrow. Lol I know I should be ashamed to be a procrastinator but university has ruined me anyway. I’m tired from literally going to one lecture haha, but in any event I’ve been rewatching mad men for the who knows what time but I thought I’d take a break from all that and watch an episode of CtM & @flyingnonny inspired me to do a reaction post so why not? I decided on 5.06 since last Sunday’s episode reminded us of that camping trip 😂😂 here goes nothing..

I am just at a loss as a new driver. Passed my test recently and just cannot find affordable car insurance it's madness. The cheapest quotes that I am getting are 4000 and I think it's disgusting. And its annoying because they add all this criteria which just shouldn't matter. The system is ageist as well as sexist as young male, new driver just seems to be impossible to get insured for. I only have an old Renault Clio P reg and I paid a very small amount for it and I'm just disgusted at the cost of it. I wanted to know if theres anything that can be done about it? Rage Nightmare

it starts off at the boardwalk near the beach. its early in the morning and its foggy. you can see people setting up for a small parade. a news van shows up and a woman news reporter starts to do a report on the parade. while shes talking. a boy of about 5 years old is in the back ground. you see him wondering around in raggy dirty clothes. she continues to do her report when a man who looks like a mix between kurt cobain and sid vicious. appears in one of the brick buildings balconey and starts yelling obscene remarks in a drunken slurr out at the people. his wife tries to calm him down but he yells at her saying “ woman i told you to keep your ass in the kitchen” the wife quickly returned inside seemingly afraid. the boy walks into the reporters broadcast and catches her attention. she asks him if he is excited to see the parade and the boy just wondered off towards the brick building the news reporter started to follow the boy while her camera crew continuied to broadcast live. she explained to viewers that children in need must be helped and it was clear to see this child was in desperate need. she followed him up the narrow stairwell up to the second floor of the brick building. the building had a store on the bottom but had a small studio apartment upstairs with a balconey looking out over the boardwalk. the reporter was in shock when she saw the conditions of the apartment. it looked like a run down abandoned ready to be demolished home. the walls had no paint and parts of the walls were falling off. holes were all over the walls and the floor was covered in trash. it smelled like dirty feet and the kitchen was disgusting. the small bathroom was moldy and difficult to get into and there was only one matteress laying on the floor. “Get the fuck out of here who the fuck do you think you are” the guy yelled at the reporter. she was still on live and she told the man that that was no way to have his family and he should be ashamed. the man realized he was on live television and was embarressed he explained that he was out of work and was stressed out on how to provide for his wife and son. the reporter then made a plea to all watching to please donate to help this family get better and with the help of viewers she will return to do an update report on the family. suddenly im in the future looking down from the sky as if im flying but i watch as the news reporter returns and the man comes down stairs to greet her and thank everyone for their donations. she asks about the boy and the man welcomes her up stairs to the apartment. it is completly remodeled and clean you see the boy coming from the kitchen happy and well cared for accompanied by his mother who is now 7 months pregnant. all of them are pure smiles and the reporter is pleased. it turns out the man went to anger management and stopped drinking and got a job and with the donation mnoney the place got a new make over and they were all happy. after the news reporter had left the boy got into his pajamas and got ready for bed. his bed was next to the big bed where his dad and mom slept and next to the other side of the bed was a small crib ready for the arrival of the baby. as he layed down, he said i love you mom and i love you dad. thank you for everything and the mom and the dad returned the words and said i love you too. they all layed down and were ready to go to sleep when the father says son im sorry for all the bad stuff i put you through can you please forgive me and the boy says yes dad i forgive you then the man turns towards his wife and says im sorry for all the bad things ive put you threw can you forgive me. the wife said i do forgive you honey for all you have done but i hope you know that im scarred for life from your actions but with time i will not feel so bad anymore. the man seemed surprised at what she said and said why cant you just forgive me. you always have to make me feel like im a fuck up. she said i do forgive you im just letting you know how things have had an effect on me. he starts to get angry and yells you can ever just be happy you always have to make me into a bad guy even after everything ive done for your ungrateful ass. he suddenly grabs her by the neck as he finishes his sentence the boy jumps up to defend his 7 month pregnant mom. and the father swings his arm back trying to keep the boy away but he swings too hard and the boy goes flying into the wall passing out the woman starts to cry and gasp for air and the man gets angrier and yells see what you made me do. this is your fault u just cant be happy you always have to make me mad with your insults you always put me down. the man gets up with her still in his grasp and starts to choke her and smack her as she struggles to breath and get away she tries to hit him and he starts to punch her in the stomach she spits up blood and he gets angrier and angrier. punching her until blood starts to get all over him and he pushes the woman down the stairs and as she rolls hitting her head and stomach along the way he is infuriated with her and his rage is evil. he continues to yell horrible things at her and goes down to where her body layed and continued to punch her. blood and guts went flying all over the place and i watched in horror from the top of the building as if i was flying. suddenly all the blood and guts and evil and anger and pain started to bubble up and boil. it looked like the goo from a lava lamp and it started to spread and grow conmsuming everything around it first the man then the apartment and the building. i started to fly up wards because it looked like it wanted to pull me into it. i could sense all the rage and evil that was in the goo. and it kept growing and coming towards me until i hit something in the sky and it wouldnt let me fly higher and i felt like i was about to disappear in to the mess when i just woke up.

Okay so this may sound stupid but I have heard that car insurance gets cheaper at the age of 21, I mean it is still alot for new young drivers compared to the 25+ year olds but apparently cheaper. Hi, my car insurance covers for liability only and now I have an accident with a big truck. The big truck hit my car from the side. We were driving from 2 lanes next to each other and at one point the two lanes combine into one. While I was alittle pass over the truck, it hit me from the side. Their side has no damage since it is a big truck and our side has damaged from the driver side. The police report didn't explain clearly about whose fault it is except it mentions what the two drivers said. I think it is not my fault and the other driver denied it is his fault either. My insurance company didn't help much because we only have liability. Now, the other party insurance company called me and said they can't pay for the damanges since it is both parties fault. Therefore, pay for damanges on our own. Like I said, the other party didn't have any damages. If we have to fix it by ourselves, it will cost over $1500. :-( How should I fight with the insurance company to get my claims?""

While shopping for car insurance, I usually use a fake name/address with all my real information (DOB, driving record, etc) just so I don't get a bunch of annoying calls/emails from every company I get a quote from. The fake email address I always use got an email the other day, which basically said that when they ran a credit check they consumer reporting agency couldn't provide a full credit history (not surprising seeing as they were checking on a name that doesn't exist). The thing that concerns me is that being only 19, I also don't have much of a credit history (the only credit I do currently have is a card I got a month ago). I couldn't really tell from the email (since I didn't read it too closely, I was really just clearing out the fake inbox) but I'm not sure if they were saying We couldn't get a credit history on you, if we had been able to, the rate you were quoted could have been lower or something more drastic like because we couldn't find a credit history, the quote we gave is no longer valid and either they won't cover me or will charge way more.
