My mask is growing heavy, but Iâve forgotten whoâs beneath
The only thing louder than his own breathing is the sound of his footsteps pounding on the asphalt. Heâs put quite a distance between himself and his pursuers, yet he canât stop. Not the burning of his lungs, the aching of his legs, nor the sharp pain present in his ribs is enough.Â
Finding out he was a quasi-immortal clone around fifteen years ago has its benefits as well as a heap of existential confusion; regardless, he canât risk becoming a disease carrier.
Goddamn capitalism making him work at a hospital during a shitty apocalypse. Heâs not even an essential doctor or anything! They wonât let him do more than tedious stocking and organizing, since he still needs to finish an online degree.
What finally stops him is a hand shooting out from the darkness and pulling him into the void.
It is not a normal hand. Dib can barely see beyond his hand-made, modernized plague doctor mask, so he reaches out and wraps his hand around the other. The hand has three fingers and impossibly silky skin. He rips the hand from its grip on his shirt and stumbles backward. After a moment of fumbling - that he feels strangely embarrassed by - he gets the mask off. A pair of ruby eyes bore into him.
âZ-Zim.âÂ
Zim tilts his head. Thereâs a vague muffled sound, but Dib canât understand. His mouth is covered by a bright pink mask near to the color of his old uniform, It has black straps that converge from a split and disappear around either side of his head. There seem to be bolts at the corners, and they must have caused fresh wounds because dark green blood is dripping down. On an odd instinct, Dib reaches out to wipe it away. Zim catches his wrist.
He nods to the side. Dib allows himself to be dragged through the alley. Zim ducks under a pair of criss-crossed boards nailed on a doorless doorway. Dib narrowly avoids smacking into them, forehead first, and he almost faceplants into the floor. He bites his lip hard to keep from sneezing due to the amount of dust.Â
Zim warily eyes him. He is completely without his disguise, though it didnât really hide much. Zim releases his wrist and marches onward. Dib follows him up a set of stairs. He takes stock of the room they finally stop at. Thereâs a telescope in the window partially covered by a curtain; it doesnât look like a recreational telescope. A suitcase lays open with an array of extraterrestrial high-tech rays and such. Near the possible entrances there are metal pieces with three round holes and signs that proclaim Caution: shoots fire. Dib almost scoffs at warning oneâs enemies before he realizes what kind of enemy they must be intended for.Â
Unlike many of the movies Dib has watched, Zombies are fast fuckers. They seem to have heightened hearing and smell, but thankfully they have poor sight and worse reflexes. Theyâre more flammable than a human usually is, due to something secreted from the pores. Though they are undead - clinically dead then shockingly came back to life - their hearts do beat. However, they wonât cease until their heads are completely removed - even a gunshot right between the eyes wonât be permanent, only slow them down.Â
They also have memories. If one formerly knew a zombie, they might try to trick them, say things they mightâve said to the point where it becomes too uncanny. It takes a few days for the flesh to rot, the eyes to cloud over, and for them to begin ripping apart anyone who comes close. They donât eat brains, rather going for the heart and liver, leaving the rest behind. Some will tear off ribs and use them as weapons.
Nothing could have truly prepared Dib for any of this. He thought he was prepared for anything supernatural. He wasnât.
It takes a minute and for Zim to flick him on the head before he realizes heâs been rambling most of his knowledge of the Infection out loud.Â
âThatâs how it started,â Dib mumbles. He may be going a bit mad. â They thought it was just⌠an extremely bad strain of the flu. Then it spread and it spread⌠then the dead came backâŚâ
Zimâs eyes narrow. The blood on his jaw has dried.
Dib begins to impersonate his voice, waving his arms around as he says, âYouâre probably thinking, stupid big headed Dib, I know all of this, in fact I know so much more than your dim-witted human worm brain can comprehend!âÂ
Zim stares at him. Then, he nods. He slowly sits on a barren mattress thatâs crooked at the far corner of the room. He covers his eyes with his hands. Dib slides in beside him. He wraps his arm around Zimâs shoulders. Zim melts into him.Â
Shakily he says, âIf nothing else, we have each other.â
âStinky human,â Zim growls, barely audible. âI wouldnât be in this mess if I hadnât stayed on Earth for you. Disgusting.â
âYou love me asshole.â And Dib loved him lightyears beyond logic as to a comprehensible or defendable reason. Dib does him the favor of not mentioning he stayed on Earth since he had nowhere to go upon finally having the epiphany his Tallest disowned him a long, long time ago. Dib is the first person to actually care about him, and as far as he can tell, Zim couldnât help himself but be drawn to that. Dib figures he isnât much different.

Flumadiddle | Yang Jeongin
â§Â flumadiddle - utter nonsense
⧠Genre: Fantasy!au, fluff, angst, can you tell jeongin is my bias??
⧠Summary: jeongin has always been your other half, the person you called your soulmate; even if there had never been romance involved between the two of you. yet when he simply picks up and leaves worcaster, you canât help but wonder what happened, and if youâll ever see him again.
⧠Word Count: 1.9k
⧠Other installments in the series: woojin, chan, hyunjin, changbin, minho, jisung, felix, seungmin
⧠PSA!! this part references a few facts from the chan installment, so I suggest reading his before this one so you can fully understand the concepts iâm referencing!
                     â§
 home was wherever yang jeongin was, you decided one night, curled into his side as the two of you sat beneath the stars on a lone hill
worcaster had always been a place to you; just because you happened to grow up there didn't mean it was really your home
home was supposed to feel warm, inviting, and comforting - worcaster was simply the cobblestone paths you walked upon each day, the occasional lemon tree surrounded by poorly made houses of lose planks and rickety stairs
but the entire time you had someone there to be your pillar of support, someone who would make you laugh and curse loudly in surprise when he suddenly picked you up and threw you onto his back so he could carry you across the desolate train tracks, long since abandoned in favor of traveling by horseback and pegasus
the night you decided yang jeongin was home, you two had been feasting on some wild berries and playfully started to squish them in favor of splattering the colorful insides onto each otherâs bodies, sure to stain your rags for clothes
after you both had settled down youâd curled up under one of his skinny arms, resting your head just on his chest with his own head resting on top of yours
âhey, y/n?â
âyeah, jeongin?â
âI want to leave this place one day,â he muttered quietly, âgo somewhere I can just... be myself and do my research freely.â
you hummed in agreement, knowing just how much the boy wanted to get out of the poor town in favor of going somewhere with tons of wildlife and the like - he had always adored animals of all kinds, big and small
âwell whenever that happens, donât forget to bring me with you, okay?â
âI wouldnât dream of it, peaches.â
âyou better not, melonhead.â
âcan I please have a cute, normal nickname-â
ânever.â
and then he was gone one day - he just... vanished
you remember how hurt you were, how wet your eyes started to become when you had asked his parents why he hadnât been attending class lately, worried he had fallen ill
but they told you that he had asked their permission to leave home, stating that they had done the same thing when they were his age
although they were as baffled as you were, because according to them, jeongin was adamant on dragging you with him out of that hellish place
so...why hadnât he kept his promise?
you donât recall another time where you had just broken down the way you did, slumping down on their poorly constructed front porch with the people you considered a second family rushing to comfort you
because you couldn't leave, not yet, anyway
jeongin had jokingly said it was a bunch of flumadiddle; a load of nonsense - you didn't have to finish school, but you knew you wanted to, needed to
while you admired jeongin for defying the shitty education system in the kingdom, you knew you didn't have the guts to follow him to wherever he had gone so quickly
you needed to have something as a backup plan, that was just how you had always been
so you stayed in worcaster for another three months, each lonely day ticking by slowly without your best friend there to make you laugh
to make you smile
to make you... happy
but finally you had gotten out of school with flying colors, choosing to stick to the plan you and jeongin had been working out since you were practically kids;
you were to be a great journalist, writing articles on the beasts he would be researching - hopefully growing to such a status that you both could have a clipping in the papers so that other kids and adults could see the beauty in all creatures
not just the domesticated ones
you held a tearful goodbye with your family, hugging them close and fiddling anxiously with the tattered bag plush against your backside, filled with books, quills, ink, and general supplies
you were to go to a little town called arbington, down south of worcaster
it was at the tip of the kingdom, one of the known borders with another country that had always been a sister to your home country
you borrowed a map from jeonginâs parents, who told you to tell their boy that they missed him dearly and, whatever he was doing, they were proud of him
travelling on foot was difficult, to say the least
you couldâve purchased a horse for yourself, but they were mighty expensive and you werenât exactly the best with animals
jeongin was the one gifted with the ability to become one with creatures of all kind, you were just the girl that observed and used your words to magnify how wonderful the beasts were
each day was harder than the next, with many an obstacle popping out of nowhere
one time you had been tracking through a forest when a group of burly, scary looking soldiers started to interrogate you, believing that you were far too young to be wandering alone
then another boy, maybe a year older than you, quite literally appeared out of thin air next to you, donning midnight black robes and a sinister smile that made the soldiers gasp in shock and turn around almost immediately
âhiya, iâm hyunjin!â the stranger had greeting you brightly, giving you an extreme feeling of whiplash because this boy
looked really scary, resembling the âevilâ witches and wizards you had read about in your mythical studies class
âuh, iâm y/n - thanks, for that. they wouldn't leave me alone.â you thanked him anyway, offering him the most miniscule of grins, to which he giggled at and waved it away
âah its no problem, iâm not exactly the biggest fan of the kingdomâs royal army anyway, not a big deal honestly,â he admitted without a care in the world, now taking a moment to take in your appearance which was... interesting, to say the least
since youâd been walking with little to no chances to bathe for weeks, you were just a bit stinky and covered in little bits of dirt and grime
âwhere are you going then, miss y/n?â
âiâm travelling to a town called arbington, its uh, its been a long walk if you couldn't tell.â suddenly hyunjin snapped his fingers, green sparks flying from between his thumb and middle finger
âtell you what y/n the traveler, iâll whisk you away to arbington right now since you gave me the pleasure of fucking with those soldiers!â
âwhat - hyunjin that's nice and all, but how are you-â
âjust think of who or where you want to be right now - hold on tight!â
within a blink of an eye he had made some strange hand movement in your direction, a cloud of billowing smoke erupting from under your tattered, torn shoes
jeongin
and suddenly you were on the ground, somewhere completely new and...
wet?
a low gruff caused you to snap out of it, your gaze snapping forward where some sort of feathered beast with long, spider-like legs was glaring fiercely at you
looking down then back up again, you realized you had been teleported into a pond of sorts, right in front of this oddball creature that had clearly been drinking from the very spot you were in merely seconds ago
before you could process it, the beast was letting out a mighty roar of absolute anger and getting ready to strike you with its sharp beak
you shut your eyes, bracing for the immense amount of pain this creature was about to hit you with
but, nothing happened
you slowly cracked your eyelids open to see what was happening, only to see an all too familiar face staring down at you, full of confusion and worry
ây/n, stand up and bow!â
âI - I... what?â
âjust fucking do it already!â he hissed, just barely holding back the furious beast with one palm pressed against its black speckled beak
you quickly did as he instructed, somehow managing to not slip as you stood from the muddy bank of the pond and made an awkward bow, shyly gazing at the creature when you came back up
it had calmed down instantly, now squawking warmly at you and jeongin, letting the tall boy stroke its beak and send it off somewhere else
ây/n what - what are you doing here?â he breathes out after a tension-filled silence had begun to brew between you and him, lifting his gaze to meet yours. âyouâre supposed to be home, in worcaster.â
you nearly snapped
âworcaster has never been my home, jeongin, you know that,â you hiss furiously, your eyebrows now scrunched together as you take a step closer to his stiff body, ignoring the awkward sloshing of your soaked shoes and clothes, âyou are my home - but then you left without a single fucking word!â
he flinches at your harsh, sharp words - not because heâs too hurt by them (which he is) but because you were clearly hurt by his actions, or rather, lack of them in the past
your eyes were prickling with the familiar sensation of salty tears and your bottom lip had started to tremble furiously
âiâm so, so sorry y/n,â the black haired boy whispers, his voice cracking with emotion each step you take towards him, âI had to l-leave, but I knew you wanted to finish school before we took off - that was the plan, fuck it was always the plan!â he nearly shouts, but you donât flinch at all, simply holding back your tears as your eyes take in how much heâs grown in just three months
heâs gotten a hell of a lot taller, with you having to tilt your head back just enough to catch how his lips move in a flurry of emotion
his cheeks are just a bit fuller and brighter, showing that he had been prospering in arbington
god you missed him
âI knew that youâd be pissed at me, but I couldn't just take everything you worked so hard for away from you. I - I swear to god I was going to come back for you when you graduated, but the menagerie has been so busy lately and my boss got a girlfriend and they go out sometimes so iâm left alone to run the shop when heâs gone-â
âshut up and hug me, asshole.â you interrupt him as the tears finally escape the corners of your crinkled eyes, trailing down your cheeks as you throw yourself at him, wrapping your arms tightly around him
he does the same to you, holding you so close you worry that you wonât be able to breathe in a few minutes if you keep this up
âI - I love you peaches, iâm⌠iâm so sorry I left you there.â
âI love you too, melonhead.â
you were soulmates, and both of you knew that - especially after being separated for so long
whether it be friendship or maybe something more, jeongin knew that you would always stick together, no matter what
even as one of the baby wisps chan had given to him goes to rest on your wrist, unnoticeable to you and only to him because they were a bonded human-and-wisp pair, he didn't need the baby pink creature to show him that you were his soulmate
you were his, and he was yours
and he would never leave you again

  Leaving Paine Grande we headed to Campamento Italiano. It was a relatively short hike, but we knew there were two miradors after we arrived and dropped our packs that we wanted to see.
FrancĂŠs and BritĂĄnico miradors.Â
We needed to get to camp after crossing a raging river on a one-person swinging bride. As I am standing, waiting for my turn to pass over this unreliable-looking bridge, I am thinking, one person of normal size with a 20lb pack, or a small child, or a large grown man with a 30lb pack or âŚ?â What truly does a one-person bridge mean?Â
It reminds me of how God works in our lives. Sometimes there is no answer right away, and life feels like a risk. Often. But in the end always works out according to plan.Â
I could allow negative thoughts, doubt, anxiety, fear, despair, worry, denial, disbelief, or uncertainty fill my head. Fill my heart. I could stand on that bridge and see the massive, furious, arctic river below me and the old, weathered, wooden, swinging bridge ahead of me and stop dead in my tracks allowing panic to grip me, but God isnât a God of panic. Heâs not a God of fear or anxiety. He FREES us from all of that!Â
âThis is my command-be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord, your God is with you wherever you go.â Joshua 1:9
We crossed and checked in to Italiano, set up camp, filled our water bottles, and set out for the miradors.Â
The Valle FrancĂŠs was inconceivable! The entire trip, I said over and over how beautiful each place was but thisâŚ. We stopped and took tons of pictures and then pressed on towards BritĂĄnico. Patagonia is full of beauty but also full of unpredictable weather, and as we pushed towards our next mirador, the clouds started rolling in. We continued as the wind ripped at us, and then the rain started. Light at first, and then really picking up. We pulled out our rain gear from our slack packs and decided that, as we looked towards the mountains, it was only getting worse, and the view we were craving was going to have too much cloud cover, so we turned back for camp.Â
We got back to camp, peeled out of our rain gear, made some dinner, and dropped into the tent.Â
We continued on to Campo Central the next day, and we knew as we approached that we were nearing the end of this hike but that the most unprecedented part of our journey was ahead. Los Torres.Â
We waited in line to check-in, found a place out of the wind to pitch our tent, and headed for the showers. Ya know, being clean and showering are things we really take for granted. Itâs such a luxury on a backpacking trip! The showers were HOT, and I stood in there way too long!Â
Afterward, we decided to hike over to the Refugio. The restaurant was warm, and we ordered GIANT beers that tasted like a little bit of heaven. They made us lazy and sleepy, which was exactly what we needed for a quick bedtime. We had an early alarm for our frigid, dark hike to the Towers before the sun rose in the morning.Â
Our daybreak was cold â possibly the coldest of the entire trek. Most of our days were warm, hot even, with the harsh sun and no ozone. When we did have rain, we welcomed it! We left our tent and belongings at camp, hiking only with our slack packs filled with water, tea, some food items, and warm clothes. We started early, pre-dawn with our headlamps on.Â
I was walking in constant prayer on our ascent. Meditative. I knew this was our last day, and I was overwhelmed in my heart with gratitude. The reasons many. The time with my husband, the adventurous spirit God created in the two of us, our friendship, and the fact that we can spend days and weeks together in a pocket-sized tent and still laugh, still love, not argue, and grow even closer together as a couple. Thankful that my husband respects and encourages the wild-girl in me. We get one another to our depths. Grateful for the opportunity to start this journey, and the healing that took place on my body to get us to the trail start. I am utterly floored by this Earth and the paradise that God has created for us. Everything so intricate and complex. I was, and am always so taken by the enormous mountains and how small and humbled they leave me feeling, stripped of everything, deprived of ego and pride. Hiking allows us the opportunity to feel God at a whole new level, a deepening, to see His provision in our lives, to hear him in a way that is clear and simple and uncomplicated. Itâs easy when you break it down. He provides all we need and loves us so wholly and excessively. I was most grateful for the way the Most-High spoke to my husband. Revealing to him some areas that we were struggling with direction and trying to find closure.Â
We both know when we are in a place of discontent, confusion, uneasiness, or dissatisfaction, it comes from us not being aligned on the path that our Creator has us on. Things in our hearts that God never assigned to us. Itâs so easy to veer. Easy to get caught up with our own agendas, eagerness, yearnings, and desires. Itâs easy to âthinkâ we are walking in Godâs will and to B E N D our intention J U S T enough to feign closeness to what God wants for our lives, but when it comes right down to it⌠it is a skewed view that ends us up on an uneven, angled messed up path. Not matched or harmonized at all with what Godâs plan is. We falter and end up thinking, âhow did we get into this situation?â âWhy arenât things better?â âHow is this still happening in my life?âÂ
The mountains make it simple to listen.Â
As we continued our ascent, getting to a bouldering area, we knew we were getting closer. The trail was getting more difficult. We were excited about our first view of the Towers. The pinnacle of this entire trek!Â
 When we reached the top, we paused â suspended in a moment awe-inspiring beauty! Â
Cordillera del Paine is such a spectacular set of mountains! Itâs the area known as the Torres del Paine (Towers of Paine), the three massive summits are gigantic granite monoliths that are UNESCO-declared biosphere reserves. The highest peak of the range is Cerro Paine Grande, at 2,884 meters (9,461 feet).
Paine means âblueâ in the native Tehuelche language and is pronounced PIE-nay.Â
It was COLD, and the wind bit at us. We met up with others that had been in our original group the day we started in Laguna Amarga, each of us making this pilgrimage in our own time. Little by little, we trickled in. We took photos, sipped hot tea, broke bread together, all nestled next to an outcropping of rocks away from the wind and elements.Â
Soon, we knew we needed to return to camp and break down to make our busses back to Puerto Natales.Â
It was hard to leave. Hard to turn our backs on this extraordinary work of beauty.Â
Returning to camp was somber. Itâs hard when you know a journey is coming to an end. Sometimes I feel like I could wander the mountains forever. Every time I hike I love the stripping away it does on me. Peeling off the lamina. I come back changed in some way. Always. Something is left behind, dropped off, and left in the dirt, unneeded, with new lessons learned, and new promises and assurances put in its place. It gives me time to do some soul searching and reevaluating. Where does God want us/me? Where is He placing us for most use? Whatâs important? What do we genuinely need? What is superficial and fake and inauthentic in me or in those I have in my life? Where do I draw the line? What boundaries need set or reestablished? What do I need to let loose of? Am I harboring unforgiveness for anyone? Have I put unnecessary pressure on myself or those around me in any way?Â
DCIM100GOPROGOPR1772.JPG
DCIM100GOPROGOPR1758.JPG
 Itâs the opportunity for God to pluck me up, and right my path with such clarity, itâs undeniable.Â
We packed up in near silence, only joking about how stinky we were. We headed to the Refugio and met up with our fellow hikers. It was fun to have one final toast to our accomplishments, to hear the stories from everyone about their journey on this incredible trek â their take-away from the trail. One beer down and we loaded our bus back to Puerto Natales, spending a couple of days here before hopping a plane for Santiago, where we almost missed our flight due to falling asleep in the airport. How were we to know they changed the gate?  I joke! We ran for our new gate in a drowsy stupor and reached the jetway only to see closed doors. We stood staring, weary, fatigue ravaging us and just started pounding on the glass doors. As the jetway was moving and the agent approached the doors, she saw us and having mercy on our completely worn-out souls, stopped the bridge, and asked them to let us on the plane. Had we been in the States⌠no way this wouldâve happened. I couldâve kissed this sweet Chilean woman straight on the mouth.Â
 WE
ARE
EXHAUSTED
We laughed & laughed after finding our seats because this is always the way for G and I. Always coming in, hurriedly, screaming, with our pants on fire. We arenât and have never been âplanners,â and this sort of thing is just expected in any given circumstance with us. In this situation, however, we were just plain spent and fell into a delicious, deep sleep on benches in the aeropuerto.Â
We spent a few days in Santiago in the spa-comfort of a fabulous hotel. Allowing ourselves pampering and delicious PLANT-BASED foods (boy do we always miss greens and fruit) and exploring the city.
Off and away from the mountainsâŚ.
Grateful, continually. Humbled, unceasingly. Changed, as always.
Patagonia -Coming to an End Leaving Paine Grande we headed to Campamento Italiano. It was a relatively short hike, but we knew there were two miradors after we arrived and dropped our packs that we wanted to see.

] Get off of me, man! I can't be a hero if I'm a big good-smelling foot!
Jake
: Maybe you're looking at this magic gift all wrong. Now that you're a huge foot you can kick evil's butt, like, way more times as hard. You're 100% kick, man!
Finn
: Why are you being so level-headed about this?
Jake
: Don't be a siss, Finn. Here, c'mon kick my butt. [
Jake stretches his butt big and wide. Finn blushes
]
Finn
: You're the SISS, siss! Augh! [tries to kick Jake but instead falls over, hitting Jake slightly.]
Jake
: [
rubbing his butt
] Ouch! oooh! Ouch. See, man. Let's give your foot body a shot.
Finn
: [
still on the ground
] No, dude! I wanna go find that magic man and get my body back!
Jake
: [
Jake cradles Finn's head
] Shhh shhh shhh shhh. Just be a foot for a little bit [
J manipulates F's mouth like puppet
]
Jake as Finn
: Ok, I will.
Jake
: Awesome! Dude you will never regret this. Hahaha![
Next scene: still in the forest. Finn is upside-down and attached to some sort of spring catapult with a trigger.
]
Jake
: Okay, when the next monster comes along, he'll step on that trigger over there, sending your giant foot body into the monster's crotch!
Finn
: This sucks, dude.
Jake
: [
Caressing Finn
] Shhh!
Monster
: [
Off- screen roaring. A two-headed monster comes into view.
] We're evil! [
steps on trigger and Finn is launched into its crotch, Monster Roars
] Our crotch! our evil crotch!!
Jake
: [
runs away while holding Finn's foot body in the air
] Hahaha! What'd I tell you? You're a great hero! Let's go set up some more crotch catapults so we can laugh and be heroes.
Finn
: No, Jake. Let's find that Magic Man.
Jake
: Finn, being an enormous crotch-kicking foot is a gift. Don't scorn a gift.[
Indistinct shouting is heard; they see Rump Town on fire
]
Jake
: Town on fire! This looks like a job for foot Finn stomping ability!
Finn
: But I-I can't even bend these big fat toes, man.
Jake
: You can do it, Finn. What'd I teach you, dude?
Finn
: [
unsure
] Not to scorn the kicking of people in the crotch?
Jake
: You got it! Now I'm gonna go rescue all the babies in town [
deep voice, face close-up
] --only the babies. [
Normally
] Get your hero on, dude![
Jake throws Finn towards Rump Town. Finn flies through the air
]
Finn
: Aaahh![
More shouting and running townspeople. Finn land in the middle of the town
]
Finn
: Uhh. Okay, you can do this, Finn. [
Sweaty and determined
] Start small, man. I'm taking you down! [
Points at the fire
][
Finn struggles to move his body and falls on top of a small fire
]
Finn
: [
screaming
] It's hot! Oh, man, I'm smoking hot! Please, help me out! I can't move![
Townspeople gather around Finn, angrily
]
Townsperson (red shirt)
: It's another one of those freaks!
Townsperson (green shirt)
: He probably started this fire!
Finn
: No, I didn't start any â
Townsperson (blue shirt)
: Throw him under the bridge with the others![
Townspeople pick up Finn and carry him off to the bridge
]
Townspeople (all)
: Get rid of the freak. [
Chanting
] Freak! Freak![
Finn is thrown off the bridge
]
Finn
: Unh! [
Sighs and sniffs
] I'm not a freak, I'm a hero.[
Jake calls out to Finn. Jake runs toward Finn with his arms full of babies.
]
Jake
: Finn!
Finn
: Jake, how'd you find me?
Jake
: Oh, I can sense when you're about to cry. It's like a mother/daughter thing.
Finn
: [
upset
] I'm not going to cry, man! I just feel like crying. We have to find that magic guy and [
Jake lets go of the babies and they crawl away.
] get my body back now!
Jake
: What we have to do is find out what reeks under this bridge [
sniffs
]
Finn
: Jake![
Jake walks toward the underside of the bridge.
]
Jake
: Ew, it's blocking out your good foot smell.
Finn
: Get back here!
Jake
: Ugh, itâit smells like vomit on fire. It's like fancy cheese in an old guy's mouth.[
Behind Jake there is a Cyclops creature with no legs or arms under the bridge. It hops towards Jake.
]
Cyclops
: Welcome, travelers.[
Jake jumps in the air, surprised.
]
Jake
: Ahh![
Jake picks up Finn.
]
Cyclops
: I am
Gork
, leader of Freak City. Ah, I can see one of you has felt the Magic Man's touch. [
Looks at Finn
]
Finn
: Yeah! You know that guy?[
Gork walks back underneath the bridge. Finn and Jake follow.
]
Gork
: I will tell you all that I know.[
Under the bridge, Gork vomits lava on the ground that turns into fire. The fire illuminates the makeshift cave(Freak City). There are other creatures seen under the bridge.
]
Gork
: We are the accursed ones, all once normal guys and gals who crossed paths with the Magic Man. [
Gork proceeds to introduce the other inhabitants of the cave.
] That's
Zap
, the Arm. [
the screen is focused in Zap, a pink humanoid arm. Zap mumbles.
]
Trudy
, the Waist. [
Trudy is shown as a blue lump. Trudy coughs.
] That's
Wee Wee
and
Gorflax
. [
They are shown as light brown ovals lying in a puddle. One is biting the other.
] They were turned into tonsils and that's
Kim
. [
Kim kisses a can and chuckles. She is beige colored leg.
] But, please, make yourselves at home. Would you like something to drink?
Jake
: Do you have any orange juice?
Gork
: No. [
Pause
] Well, uh, I don't know. Maybe. Uh, I don't think so. I'll go check.[
Gork goes off in search of orange juice.
]
Jake
: Yo, Finn, this place is really bumming me out. Let's get out of here.
Finn
: What?! No, dude. These guys might be my only hope of finding the Magic Man.[
Gork comes back with orange juice.
]
Gork
: Hey, we actually do have orange juice.[
Jake starts drinking the juice.
]
Finn
: Thanks for being cool and all, but what do you know about this Magic Man? How do we catch him?
Gork
: Oh, he can't be caught. He's got magic and we're worthless freaks. We can't ever beat him. So we've gather here to wallow in our self-pity.
Finn
: But don't y'all even want to try?
Kim
: Eh, no.
Finn
: Why not? You're all totally miserable here.
Zap
: Ugh. It's a living.
Finn
: No, it's not, Zap! It's not a living! It's dookie diapers! I don't want to be a foot!
Trudy
: Well, get used to it. We did.[
Gork falls to his side.
]
Jake
: Yeah, Finn, maybe there's another lesson to be learned here--[
Jake walks to a pile of garbage, sits down and gets comfortable.
]
Jake
: To accept what fate has given you [
puts his arm around a rat
] and stay a miserable foot. Gork, can we stay here in this pile of trash and rats forever?
Gork
: Yeah, man. Do it up.
Jake
: [
flops down in trash
] Awesome. [
Rats flock to his body
] Here we go.
Finn
: Jake, stop screwing around. [
slumps
] You're gonna make me give into depression.
Jake
: [
rats crawl on his face
] Eh, what are you going to do about it? Probably nothing, right? If you're depressed, you'll do nothing. [
Rolls over
]
Finn
: I⌠[
Depressed
] Maybe I will do nothing.
] Maybe I'll just lay down here. [
Grunts and struggles to get to the floor
] Lay down âuh [
falls to the ground
]âand rot like the rest of you.
Jake
: [
Excited
] Yeah! [
Chanting
] Stay a foot! Stay a foot! Stay a foot![
Finn closes his eyes and begins to daydream. Song begins.
]
Finn
: [
singing
] ⍠Is this really my life?Is this how my story ends?[
Finn is in space with his foot body.
]Bein' in this body,Seems like a battle that I cannot win.[
Finn is trapped in a neon cube.
]Maybe I should lay my head down slow,And sleep until it's all over,[
Finn lays his head on his hands. The cube disappears but leaves lines that bisect Finn.
]Is this the end,of the hero boy named Finn?[
The pieces of Finn break apart and move through space. Finn opens his eyes and is back in the cave.
]Heck no! Darn it, no!This isn't how I go![
Finn picks himself up.
]I'm gonna kill it! I'm gonna kick life's butt,And win it, to win it.I'm gonna take life's name,And spit on it, and kick it![
Spits and hops towards Gork.
]Life can just go eat it,'Cause this is a man's game! âŤ[
ends singing
]
Finn
: Get up, Gork!
Gork
: Huh? Why?[
resumes singing
]
Finn
: ⪠I'm not gonna let you lie here,And waste away,You better get up, Gork, or I'll kick you up,Today's the day! âŞ
Gork
: Whoa. Okay man, just be cool.
Finn
: ⍠And I'm not gonna be cool![
Finn kicks Gork.
]'Cause I'm pipin' hot![
Finn kicks Trudy then kicks Kim.
]Get up, Trudy! Get up, Kim!I'm not gonna let you rot! âŤ[
Finn hops to Jake.
]
Jake
: Hey, Finn.
Finn
: ⍠Ja-a-a-ke, stop tellin' me to enjoy, bein' a foot, and get out of that trash! âŤ
Jake
: Heh heh. I can't take you seriously when you're singing, man.
Finn
: Get up![
Kicks Jake into the air
]
Jake
: Ahh!
Finn
: âŤAll of you make me sick!I'll fix you with my kicks!Gonna reconstruct y'all's self-worth,[
Kicks them all out of the cave and into the light
]Brick by emotional brick. âŤ
Gork
: Wait, Finn![
Finn kicks them into a pile. Gork is on top of Trudy and Kim and Zap are at his sides.
]
Gork
: Hey, stop it, man! [
Gork, Kim, Zap, and Trudy stand up.
] We don't like touching each other.[
Finn kicks them all (except Jake) and is puzzled.
]
Finn
: Huh?[
Gork, Trudy. Kim, Zap, Wee Wee and Gorflax are all clumped together.
]
Gork
: Please, man.
Finn
: Wait a second. Kim, get underneath Trudy.
Kim
: No, man. Please. I freakin' hate Trudy.
Finn
: [
angry
] Kim, I will destroy you!
Kim
: Okay, Okay! [
Moves to get under Trudy
][
Jake walks up to Kim.
]
Jake
: Yeah, do it, Kim.
Finn
: Yes! Now for me [
gets on the other side under Trudy
] Look at us![
Gork, Trudy. Kim, Zap, Finn, Wee Wee and Gorflax are joined together to make a single body.
]
Jake
: Whoa![
They walk to a puddle and look at their reflection.
]
Gork
: We're like a big, normal guy.
Kim
: Thank you so much
Zap
: We are perfect together
Kim
: Oh, Finn, thank you.
Finn
: Word! Now let's go wreck up that Magic Man![
They jump up and down excitedly.
]
Jake
: Let me get in on this. I'll form the pants. [
Jake wraps his body around them
][
Off-screen
]
Magic Man
: Food. Food for a beggar[
Finn gasps. Magic Man is in his hobo disguise
]
Magic Man
: Y'all got any food?
Gork
: We've got a little orange juice left over from â Wait a secondâŚ
Magic Man
: That's right. It is I, the magic Man! [
Reveals himself and heaves magic their way.
] Zap[
They all shout.
]
Magic Man
: Come on, apple grease! What are you gonna do?[
Zap punches Magic Man.
]
Magic Man
: Ohh!
Zap
: We're not afraid.
Magic Man
: Are you sure about that?
Finn
: You're darn right we are![
Gork vomits lava at Magic Man but it is deflected.
]
Finn
: Give us our bodies back![
Finn kicks Magic Man into a pile.
]
Magic Man
: Why should I? You still act like a hero only so you can get what you want.
Finn
: Oh. You were trying to teach us to be kind without expecting anything return. I should've given you that sugar cube without even thinking about a reward.
Magic Man
: Wrong! [
Hurls magic at them again. It hits Finn in the face.
]
Finn
: Ah, geez!
Jake
: [
worried
] Finn!
Finn
: [
angry
] You've gifted us nothing but heartache, Magic Man! What is the life lesson in that?!
Magic Man
: [
laughs maniacally
] Yes, my children, you are so close to the answer.
Finn
: Answer this![
They jump on top of Magic Man. He is stuck underneath Finn's foot body.
]
Kim
: Get his eyes! Cut him in the eyes!
Finn
: I wish I'd never been nice to you 'cause you're just a big jerk!
Magic Man
: Oh, yes, that's it! [
Slips from under Finn's foot body
] You've finally learned your lesson. [
Zaps them with magic that returns them back to normal
] And now I'm off spread my teachings to more sissy do-gooders. [
Opens a portal to escape
] You're welcome!
Finn
: Man, I frickin' hate that guy. But at least now we can all go back to our regular lives.[
Gork, Kim, Trudy, Wee Wee and Gorflax are still voluntarily linked as a single body â even though they have their original bodies back.
]
Gork
: Well, actually, we like being like this
Zap
: Yeah, we're strong together
All
: Bye, Finn! Thank you![
They wave and walk off-screen.
]
Finn
: Oh, okay. Bye, guys. See you, later. [
Waves back at them
] Wait, so, what was the lesson we just learned?
Jake
: [
shrugs
] Maybe it was, don't give your sugar to jerks.
Finn
: Speaking of jerks, what the blubbins, man?! Why wouldn't you help me turn back into a boy?!
Jake
: Well, because I kind of always wanted [
mumbles
]
Finn
: What?
Jake
: [
embarrassed
] I said, I kind of always wanted to be a foot myself.
Finn
: You could be a foot right now. I saw you change into a foot twice yesterday.[
Finn and Jake start walking away.
]
Jake
: It's complicated, man. You'll understand when you're older.[
Episode ends
