#my life#y'all the s//te//ven u///ni/verse fandom was A FUCKING MESS#i don't regret it. without it I wouldn't have daci pan and saer.#it's the fandom that helped me figure out I was gay#and got me started writing fic!#but jesus h christ#the stories I could tell--and not from The Big Fandom Dramas that u know but from much smaller ones that were still a HUGE deal in my life#and that's part of why I wasn't obsessed with sp/op when it came out. too many of the same assholes tbh.#(lol that said plenty of my sp/op friends were *also* s/u friends. some of whom I've met in person at least once!)#anyway I actually have a theory as to why the s/u fandom was such a fucking horrorshow#and it's mostly to do with young queer people with hella trauma all shoved into the same social media site (this one) with no other outlet#and everyone was heavily self-identifying with one character or another#to the point of being hurt if someone criticized said character's actions#(and EVERY major character in s/u did SOMEthing shitty)#and then taking out their unresolved issues on each other over and over#none of which was the show's fault!! the show itself is very good!!
