NOTE: Car sex, cunnilingus.
WOW, I can't believe after so long between updates it's finally all up! Hope you guys enjoyed the ride and are happy that Ruby and Winter figured it all out. Again, I know sometimes this account goes quiet even though I'm always writing; I just can't always find the time to set aside to edit and update the fics. It won't be right away but I can tell you that the next installment of the White Noise universe is definitely coming someday. Until then, see you in the other fics!

=Chapter 11
Once the newly happy couple entered the conservatory, it became too crowded to talk about their private affairs. Everyone was sat around in the living room, surrounding Weiss who took the middle of the sofa with Yang at her side. Blake and Sun had made it, and they were lingering near Yang. There was still no sign of Qrow, Taiyang or Penny yet. They must have been more held up than they thought. Even if people were still engaged in their own conversations rather than fully focusing on their host, it was still too risky.
But that didn't stop Ruby standing in place by Winter's side, idly brushing their hands by one another. Not holding, but enough to make her presence known.
"Okay, I guess we're ready!" Weiss was announcing as Winter hooked her own pinky around Ruby's. No one would have noticed how nervous she was unless they were close to her - either physically or emotionally. Nervous, yet excited.
"Hang on," Blake said, holding up her phone and aiming the camera at Weiss. "Okay, ready!"
"Open Yang's! It's sappy!" Ruby called across the crowd loudly, knowing it would definitely be heard on the recording.
It was a small haul of presents in comparison to previous years, but no one particularly minded. Both the hosts understood that many of their guests either didn't know what to get or couldn't afford much – and they themselves had insisted nobody break the bank. It made the cards reviewed all the more special, which Weiss had Yang display by the fireplace right away.
Nearly an hour later, everyone had gathered at the dinner table. Weiss put the various presents to one side but insisted on wearing the bracelet. While agreeing it was sappy, she loved it – just as both Ruby and Yang suspected she would. Yang and Weiss were sat at one end, with Fènleng in her high chair at the head of the table. By their side were Sun and Blake, then Neon and Inu, then Winter and Ruby. The rest of the guests were further along, with only a few taking the sofa due to lack of space at the table. Everyone took what they wanted from the buffet of sandwiches and snacks, complimenting Neon and Yang who had put it all together on this occasion.
Ruby sometimes managed to give Winter a shy wave. There was still no sign of Penny just yet. But while things were up in the air with Winter, she assumed that was for the best. They could talk soon.
"You know," Winter said to Neon as she leaned to one side so they could speak more easily, "you two did quite a good job on this spread. If you ever get tired of performing, you could probably try your hand at party planning."
Blowing a loud raspberry, she smirked back toward her. "No way! Any nimrod can spread some mayo on bread’n add some tuna or ham. I just needed to do it a few hundred times!"
"Well, I might think about it! I'm sure as hell still not used to going out and people recognising me on the street, like I’m somebody." Grabbing a few of the cheese sandwiches and some potato chips, Yang looked toward her little sister from across the table. "Don't worry, I put Penny's vegan stuff to the side so she'll have plenty when she gets here. Made it special!"
"Oh, great! She'll really like that!" Ruby grinned straight back, having just put a bratwurst on her plate and adding more chips. "They're still held up, I think… traffic must be bad."
"Sometimes it gets pretty congested," Weiss agreed as she popped a devilled egg into her mouth. "Flying out of Nashville is as miserable as LAX. But you get used to it."
"This tuna is excellent," Blake commented with a smile. "You really went all out."
"Seconded! I'm surprised it hasn’t summoned the real cat yet." Taking a few of the tuna sandwiches for herself, Neon then looked back to Weiss while she prepared her own and some of Fènleng's food. "Hey, where is Xu-Xu anyways?"
But while they had their light, aimless conversations, it seemed Ruby was zoning out for a moment. She had got her food, and simply stared blankly at her plate as she began to eat. Dwelling on Penny being late would do no good for her mood, so eating was a good solution.
And so was something else going on under the table. About a third of the way through her bratwurst, Ruby could feel a sensation sliding up her calf. It was very light, but definitely present; a teasing. As it did so, she could hear Winter answering another question Blake had asked.
"Oh, I'm not much of a pet person. But I might be persuaded to take in a rescue." Her eyes flicked between both her and Ruby. "Perhaps a cat and a dog, if they could play nice with each other."
Swallowing the meat in her mouth, Ruby shuddered with both a mixture of shock and pleasure. She could feel very easily it was Winter's soft foot, teasing her with those pedicured nails. And it began to rise! Then it hit her: Winter's ultimate payback for what happened with her father. She wasn't finished with her just yet, but could balance their debts by winding her up in front of all the guests.
"Really?" Blake was laughing with a wider smile. "Maybe find a cat who wouldn't mind being cat-sat by you until you could adopt one of your own. I could help you with that."
The elder Schnee sister hummed her agreement as the teasing went up to Ruby's knee, tracing tiny circles as it went. "You know, that might be nice. Test if I'm really ready to take on a pet full-time."
Again, her eyes went back to Ruby. Now biting her lip, Ruby waited for what was coming. She had to maintain a mask of calm, not show that she was really flustered. She never considered all these factors when doing it to Winter. No wonder she wanted to get back at her in this way; it would teach her not to underestimate how hard this was to do on the receiving end.
"Ahem!" Sun ejaculated toward Winter in regards to her comments. Assuming they were intended for Blake, he leant forward. "'Ix-nay' on the 'Et stuff-pay', alright? These people are super vanilla!"
Leaning forward herself, Winter's foot disappeared during the action. "Nobody would pick up on what we meant if you weren't drawing more attention to it, Monkey Boy," she hissed. Though she was still smiling; not at all upset, just mildly bemused that Sun had let himself get so easily flustered.
Looking downward got his plate and groaning in annoyance instead, he murmured, "Just shut up and eat your sandwiches."
But Ruby was finally sighing with relief, going back to her sandwich. She assumed that Winter had stopped taunting her, thinking she realised how mean it really was in front of people. That she had enjoyed her revenge.
"Aww, it's okay," Blake was murmuring to Sun very gently, petting his shoulder to soothe him. "But Winter is right in this case; we were just talking about pets. No big deal."
"And a well cared for pet is a happy pet," Winter went on, as her foot resumed its upward progress - this time, starting at the knee and working inward. "Don't worry, I've done a lot of pet-sitting in my time."
"Oh really?” Yang put in. “We'll have to get you to cat-sit Xu-Xu for us, Winter. See, we wanted to take Fènleng to Disneyland sometime soon-"
Yang was immediately cut off by Neon. "Kids her age can barely go on anything!"
"Who said it was just for her?"
But the host's little sister was distracted once more. Forced to release the sandwich which dropped to her plate, she froze up once again. Winter was continuing to wind her up in plain sight. She only hoped that no one was going to notice, somehow.
"Wouldn't mind it a bit," she was saying serenely while pushing her foot further and further between Ruby's thighs, underneath the meager protection her skit offered. "Though Neon does have a point. It might be more fun if you leave Fèn with one of us and just go to Disney yourselves."
"I could never do that!" Weiss gasped out, placing a hand on her daughter's shoulder for emphasis. "My little girl, alone, for days at a time?!"
"Babe, didn't you wanna go back on tour for a couple of months next year, though?" Yang laughed. Looking back to Neon and Winter, she smiled. "For her, it would mainly be for pictures. We wanna build lots of memories and make some scrapbooks and stuff. You know, stuff to embarrass her with in front of her friends, or when she brings a date home."
Once the foot pressed home beneath the skirt, however, there was a harsh thud at the table from where Ruby jumped in surprise, knees impacting with the surface above. Either way, it got quite a bit of attention - the opposite of what she wanted. Already her cheeks were glowing.
It was remarkable how real the look of confusion and concern on Winter's face was as she asked, "Are you alright?" Even as the toes resumed their progress, getting so close to the mark again, she was laying her palms on either side of her plate, as if pretending she was about to stand.
"I-I… U-Uh…" By now, Ruby could feel her right up against her panties, pressing inward and taunting her fragile flesh. How was she supposed to respond to that with everyone looking? She didn't have as much self-control as Winter did!
There was nothing else for it. As much as she didn't want to give up and accept her fate, she found herself having to move her chair back slightly. He blush was completely red, enough to give Winter a big enough hint that her efforts were not fruitless. Once out of the foot's reach, she shot an apologetic look over toward Weiss.
"S-sorry, just need the bathroom. Where, uh, was it again?"
"There's one right here on this floor," Weiss said in some confusion. "And downstairs and upstairs, of course. You've been here before, haven't you?"
"Y-yeah… I… Sorry, I forgot. I'm being dumb. E-excuse me!"
And barely even managing to tuck her skirt back down in time, Ruby dashed away from her chair and straight to the bathroom, leaving their guests very confused. Winter had to play it cool. Even with the guilty thrill that shot into her stomach, she had to at least pretend that she had no idea that anything was wrong with Ruby. However, after a full minute had passed, she withdrew her phone from her bosom and sent a quick message.
R u ok?
"Your sister's kinda crazy, Yang." Neon was heard commenting as she went to grab more tuna sandwiches.
"Yeah, but at least she's in better moods now." Yang admitted, looking toward the eldest Schnee with a bright smile. "We got Winter to thank for that."
But after a short moment, there was a buzz through to Winter's phone. A message back.
Fine! I guess I deserved that. But I knew I was gonna end up moaning so I had to leave quick! D:
"Oh, I just… did what I could," Winter said evasively as she began to type back.
You could have stopped me and said it was too much, I just thought it would be fun ; ) I'll help you moan more later
"My sister's so modest," Weiss said in a voice dripping with sarcasm. But she was smirking. "She's so good at reassuring people. The same sister who once convinced me that if I ate a caterpillar, I would have a literal butterfly in my stomach."
"That was ONE time!" Winter said in exasperation as she laid her phone down to take a drink of water. "And I was five, you can hardly blame me!"
While everyone chuckled, Weiss said, "Can't I?"
"Oh, that's bush league compared to the stuff I did." Yang laughed, holding up the hand with her sandwich to gesture along with her story. "When we had our first dog, Ein, Ruby would always try and run around on all fours like him. I told her if she did absolutely everything a dog does, she would be able to turn into one."
"Oh my God, please tell me she didn't whiz on any fire hydrants!" Sun was already laughing halfway through Yang's story, but then came another vibration from Winter's phone.
Honestly I haven't felt up to doing anything so long it's so tempting just to go to town on myself in here o//o
"Nothing like that!" Yang could be heard continuing. "But I looked away for two minutes, then suddenly both Ein and Ruby are rolling in a pool of mud! Dad was so pissed when we got home!"
With a knowing glint in her eye, Blake said in a deceptively-casual tone, "Wow, maybe you should look after Ruby when you look after Xu-Xu, Winter."
"Oh? Oh, I- perhaps so!" Now Winter could feel her own desires returning, but she was well practiced at maintaining a façade; no one else would know she was turned on. Even as she began to casually type…
Not yet. Please? I want to help more… directly. Tell me where to meet u
Here? Really???
But Yang quickly gave Blake a rather playful glare. She might have been oblivious to what Blake was talking about, but assumed it was something else instead. "What are you saying, my sister's a furry or something? Gross."
Another vibration. Ruby had added to her last reply before Winter could type her own: My car.
"Nothing against furries, but if she likes rolling around in the dirt, might be better to have someone putting her on a leash." Again, Blake glanced at Winter with a smirk.
"Well, I think this conversation is taking a turn for the strange," Weiss observed as she reached for another handful of chips to add to her plate. "My sister walking my sister-in-law like a dog! You're weird, Blake."
"Weird, yeah," Blake was muttering while Winter replied to her texts.
Slip out the back and around the house, I'll excuse myself when I can
"Some people are into that," Neon spoke up with a small smirk. In fact, she looked toward not only Weiss who started the conversation, but also occasionally to the woman sat opposite her. The ever-silent Inu.
"For real? People get off on being treated like a dog?" But the more Yang commented on it, the shorter Inu seemed to become as she sank down in her seat, cheeks reddening. Contrary to what the three people at the table who had prior experience in the Clamp assumed, it seemed there was yet another who shared those sorts of interests among them!
But Winter would have to miss that conversation if it went on. She had just received another message:
I'll text Weiss just to tell her I'll be on the phone. Should buy us enough time. I'm headed to the car now, don't keep me waiting or I'll have to start without you ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Feeling her heart speed up into her throat, Winter let out a long, beleaguered sigh. Then she texted back a simple “Ok, be there soon” before pushing her chair back, finally putting on the shoe she had dislodged to tease her poor sub.
"I am sorry, I have to take this after all; some business can't wait. Don't worry, I'll just nip out front and take care of it. Excuse me."
But Blake's amber eyes were focused entirely on Winter as she stood. "Well, have fun." It was said flippantly, as if she were being sarcastic, but they both knew she was serious.
"Hurry back!" Weiss bade her as she strode from the table and out the front door. "All this food isn't going to eat itself!"
Due to how much closer the front door was to the car than the back door, Winter actually made it outside first. Therefore, she spent the time slipping off her cardigan and draping it over one arm, strolling lazily toward Ruby's car. Her heart was pounding with excitement, but she didn't dare show it. Not when there was a slim chance someone might glance out the foyer window and spot her dancing like a giddy schoolgirl.
Before Ruby was in sight, the car could be heard unlocking as the lights flashed. Then came one more vibration from the phone.
Just getting my shoes. Get in, seats can be lowered and there's a blanket in the back, be two seconds ; )
Winter blinked down at the message, then pulled the door handle, sliding into the passenger's side. As she closed the door, she began to message back - because it had to be asked.
Where were your shoes before??
I took them off when I first came over. She always keeps the garden clean so I never bothered to put them back on!
But finally, Ruby was in sight walking around the building. She had managed to avoid the gaze of the other guests as she made her way to the car. But just before she got there, she sent one last teasing text.
Surprised you didn't notice actually ; )))))
Biting her lip, Winter wrapped her phone in her cardigan and put it in the back seat, then grabbed the blanket to pull over herself. She waited until the driver's side door opened before she spoke.
"I had other worries on my mind. But… now that you mention it, I do seem to remember spotting some cute little piggies dancing along the floor…"
Quickly shutting the door behind her and locking it, Ruby grinned just as giddily when she looked back to Winter. She could barely even contain herself as she lowered her seat, attempting to create a more comfortable area for their activities.
"I wasn't thinking about it! Not till you started teasing me with yours. You total asshole, by the way!"
"Just thought I'd pay you back," she said with a grin, sliding the blanket so that she could throw it over Ruby, as well. "A little. Not really make you too uncomfortable - at least, I hope I didn't."
"No, it didn't," she assured her. It wouldn’t do to wound their barely-established relationship with misunderstandings. Scootching slightly toward Winter, she shuffled off her own jacket, tossing it to one side. Then started to undo one or two buttons to give Winter more of a view. "Like I said… I'm just so pent up you were about to make me lose my cool. So I'd rather you do that here, in private."
Now that she had been reassured, it seemed Winter wasn't above more teasing. As she watched the buttons open, she muttered, "Didn't want to let on to your big sister that you were all hot and bothered? I can imagine…"
It was certainly helping the situation, making her growl with desire as she felt deep heat brewing between her legs. But that need was becoming more of a priority than any small talk. It had been too long; not only had she enjoyed no sexual contact with Penny since that time in the car, but she had felt no motivation to take care of her urges on her own. But now that they were back with a passion, all she could do was look her dead in the eye.
"Quit teasing me and make me scream already."
As Winter's smile slowly began to fade, she reached over and grasped Ruby, pulling her across the space to lay atop her. A shoe clattered to the floor while she ran her hands up and down her sides, over her hindquarters.
"Ruby, I missed you so fucking much," she growled needily, past the point of caring how it sounded. Her hands were already gouging into the backs of the girl's thighs, digging in as they worked their way closer to her centre.
Several shaky gasps fell from from the younger woman’s lips. Still wearing an elated smile, instinct was already starting to take over. No longer did she care about their sub or Dom roles; this time, it was a case of doing whatever each of them wanted, trusting their intuition. Already Ruby felt her hips pushing forward against Winter's needily, desperate to get anything she could of her and push back against those hands in addition. Her arms wrapped around Winter's shoulders, keeping her close as she pressed her forehead against hers.
"I missed you, too." A hand dived into her hair. "I'm so happy you're here."
"I know how we started," Winter began as one hand slid around Ruby's hip to begin hiking up her skirt, to rub against her through the thin material of her underwear. "But now it's so much more than just training you. I… I have thought about you every single day since the last time we saw each other!"
"Nhhh! God, I'm so glad I'm not the only one!" Already she was so warm – and all over! No doubt Winter would be able to feel just how wet she had been, it was soaking her undies already. Looking her dead in he eye, she whispered, "So what are you waiting for? Fuck me." And without hesitating any longer, she crashed her lips up against Winter's.
As she kissed back, harder than ever before, Winter wasted no time. Ordinarily, her hands would have been doing a thousand things, taunting flesh and ghosting up thighs. In this instance, she jerked the crotch of Ruby's soft cotton panties aside and began to rub up and down her dripping folds, fingers moving with practiced ease.
Finally, Ruby could do just as she wanted to in the presence of everyone in that room. And she didn't hold back, moaning contentedly into their kiss as she continued to thrust her hips forward into the slender fingers. Even if she was glad they could do as they wanted, Ruby was able to come up with one downside to their impromptu session: they didn't have an artillery of Winter's wonderful toys to use. If only they had somehow anticipated this reconciliation.
Not that she was complaining. Slender fingers would be able to bring her to just as satisfying a finish. She knew that deep down. And she was so desperate for it she couldn't hold back any of the needy thrusts.
Clearly, the girl was ready for more. Not wanting to be conspicuously gone any longer than they had to be, she plunged her middle finger straight into Ruby, curling in with great relish as her tongue began to do the same with the beautiful mouth atop her own.
"HMMMHH!"
What a loud and needy sound that fell into Winter's mouth. Yesss, that’s the spot right there, Ruby thought. She continued to push herself forward against Winter's hand while she worked at that sensitive spot inside, feeling the slender and thin finger buried inside her. But one wasn't enough. Oh no. To be truly satisfied, she needed more than that. Ruby’s hand dove down toward where Winter was working and tapping at one of her other fingers with hers lightly. Just enough to give an undoubtable hint.
But it seemed that even now, Winter couldn't be satisfied with doing this the usual way. Pausing their kiss, she panted, "You want another? Go ahead. Add another." As she said this, she switched from middle to index, pushing the rest of her hand as far out of Ruby's way as she could manage.
Trying to keep her volume down by habit, she looked down at Winter wide eyed. That wasn't something she had heard of before; born of them working together to push her to orgasm. But the way Winter was so casual about it excited her so much! It was worth a try. Holding her hand right beside Winter's, she pushed a finger inside, trusting Winter to follow.
She did, keeping pace with the entry. Of course, it wasn't quite so easy to pull off as only one of them using two fingers, but it turned out to be just doable. Having two hands in such an area forced Ruby's legs further apart, but she was young and flexible; it wasn't impossible.
"Oooh," Winter cooed as she felt a foreign digit sliding over her own, both of them buried deep in the waiting sex. "How does that feel?"
For some reason, this made Ruby shudder even more. It was one thing not to be fully in control, it was another to hand it completely over. But to share? How many times has Winter done this with others, she wondered… "S-so good…" she breathed needily, even pushing herself up against the hands right at her welcoming warmth, trying to welcome them further in.
"Yeah?" Panting heatedly, she began to move her finger at the same time as Ruby's - but she couldn't quite get the rhythm. That seemed to make her partner undulate and buck even more than she would have done under ordinary circumstances. "Mmm, you look like you're losing yourself in it… I hope it's in the best of ways."
"Nnhhhh, yeah, it d-definitely is," she assured her, holding still for a moment as she tried to sync herself up with Winter's hand. Each time it wasn't quite matched, she shuddered a little more, even squealed on top of things on occasion. She could feel her toes beginning to curl in her shoes already. Why didn't she get off inside? It would have made things more of a challenge, at least.
Winter's lips found their way to Ruby's neck as she felt her began to buck atop her, as she tried to curl at the same speed. She was also just able to get her thumb right up against her clit as she did so, hoping the slight friction from their movements would be enough to help send her into the stratosphere sooner rather than later.
Continuing to buck and twitch as her neck was kissed, the moaning was unfortunately increasing in volume. She couldn't help it one bit, it was such a strange sensation! At times when Winter would curl her finger, Ruby would in another direction, which made her feel her inner walls very slightly stretched out. That was more filling than anything. She could feel her heart beginning to race as she grasped Winter's shirt with her spare hand, and felt the few stray quivers that informed her it wouldn’t be long now.
"C-close… I-I'm close already! F-fuck! What are you doing to me?!"
"Let it happen! Oh God, Ruby - you sound so good!" Winter flexed her finger faster than ever, inwardly loving the feeling of Ruby's sliding over hers; it felt so foreign and new, added an intriguing dimension for her. Clearly, it was doing way more than for the smaller woman atop her. "Cum for me! Cum hard for me, Lady!"
God had she missed that petname. Finally, she was pushed over the edge. When Winter curled her finger one more time, and she did too, she felt them hit that sweet spot just right. That in addition to Winter's play with her clit, and she was done for. Shuddering on top of her, “Lady” moaned one more time as loud as she was able, feeling her inner walls clenching around the digits inside her. She felt her fluids getting out of control again, sprinkling Winter's leg and the seat very slightly.
But they had done it. In the car, at WEISS’S BIRTHDAY PARTY.
"Ohhh, wow," Winter breathed, gazing up at hey affectionately. "I wasn't thinking about your ejaculation problem. But… it's so hot…" Drawing away, she left a light kiss on her lips. "You'll never know how much I missed that these past few months."
For a moment, she just lay on top of Winter's front, gasping for breath and smiling with glee as she gradually came down from her high. That was something she missed for a long while. It felt like a relief to regain waht they had lost. But they were still on the clock. After a minute, she was pulling out her own and Winter's finger so she could descend. "Your turn."
"Oh… oh, that isn't necessary, Ruby," she told her earnestly as she watched the girl sink to the floorboard. "I just wanted to follow through on what I promised at the dinner table. You don't have to…"
But already Ruby was crammed into the footwell of the passenger seat. She still made sure the blanket was covering her up, but she began to brush her hands up and down Winter's thighs needily. While Ruby first needed to get off, she needed Winter as well. She needed to be the one to hear her moan again. Hitching up her skirt with each brush, she smirked.
"But I didn't get to eat yet."
While watching her down there, Winter couldn't help but sigh and smile gently at the face between her knees. After a beat, she whispered to her, "You're the most beautiful woman in the entire world."
"Hmm… Nope!" Without elaborating, she made sure to tuck the blanket over them both to keep the area covered. Anything else, Winter would just have to feel. And first thing was first, she would kiss the insides of her thighs, making her way upward toward her underwear rather quickly. While she knew Winter needed the teasing, they had a limited time-window.
And the elder woman didn't waste any time in allowing her eyes to close, to relax into the gentle motions. She was going to enjoy it, of course, but if she fought against the tiny ripples of pleasure, it would take much longer than if she rode them out.
Lady managed to nudge aside her panties with her nose again. She had a feeling it would be preferred by Winter to do so, as a gentle reminder of their play from before. One that, since Yang mentioned the dog story, was starting to make sense why she enjoyed! She at first delivered a single, small kiss before she opened her mouth wider against the folds, and went in for the kill.
If the kiss had made her sigh, the actions that followed made her moan. Winter's legs raised up to drape over Ruby's back as she opened herself up to more stimulation, more attentions from the ravenous tongue of her lover.
Lover… The title sounded accurate now. Justified. Even the strange things they had put each other through, the worries and the uncertainty, hadn't been enough to stop them from being together. All she wanted was to see that through, to become one with the only person she had ever cared about beyond friendship. To see where things led.
And right now, they were leading further and further toward Winter's finish. That tongue hadn't lost its talent, and lapped at Winter's sex readily and needily. In particular, she focused on the clit, kissing it on occasion over and over again. But she knew to add more. And a hint of that was coming as she parted the lips further with her fingers, the other hand still stroking her inner thigh.
"Ohhh, yes," Winter panted obscenely, pushing a hand into the side of Ruby's head as her back arched very slightly. "Ruby, please - more! It feels so good, I can't help it, I n-need…"
Ruby would absolutely deliver more. Keeping the lips apart, she finally gave her what she craved. Aware it would be awkward for Winter to join her down there, she entered her body with two fingers. In unison with her licking, she pumped in and out of her body with them. All the while she was smirking as she listened to the sound of her new lover.
Her other partner in addition to Penny. It was a dream come true.
The fingers instantly had Winter screaming, curling her stomach as her hungry sex tried to clamp down on them, hold them inside. It hadn't been as long for Winter since she orgasmed, but it being Ruby was enough to get her within a hair's breadth very quickly. Her lips stretched wide and her head fell back completely as she let the feeling wash over her, as a few more good thrusts sent her spinning off into an explosion of pleasure unlike any she had enjoyed in months.
Though it wasn't just the swift orgasm that ended their spontaneous session. It was a small, but sharp knock on the car window. One that made Ruby's head jerk up from under the blanket.
What she saw was a freckle-cheeked ginger smiling in at them. No one else was standing outside her car, luckily enough; only Penny, looking pleased as could be to see her girlfriend. She waved, being that the windows were up and it would probably be hard to hear her through them.
"Holy shit Penny!" Eyes snapping wide open, Ruby was quick to remove her fingers from Winter's body and pull her panties back into place. Even if Penny couldn't hear them, she still waved back, talking nervously. "U-Um… Hi! I… I meant to message you about this!"
"What?" Penny called back. "Hi!"
"Oh shit," Winter was whispering, blinking at the redhead. Even though she was clearly in a good mood, she still felt awkward that there had been no time to discuss things with Penny directly… before such an unfortunate moment!
"U-Um… Uh…" There wasn't any way to talk to Penny without yelling aimlessly in the car ,or finding her keys to start the engine and roll the window down. Even if it wasn't the most convenient of moments, she couldn't let things slide without saying a word. Resigning to it, Ruby opened the door very slightly, just enough so Penny could hear her talk. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean for you to… to walk up and… U-Uh…"
But Penny simply flung the door wide, squatted down and embraced her girlfriend, even having to crane around Winter's leg the way she did. The genuine warmth and affection in the action told Ruby that she wasn't doing it merely for show; she had just missed her that much.
"I love my parents, but I love you, too," she breathed into Ruby's sweat-dampened hair. "So good to be back."
"W-Wha?!" More shocked than anything at first, Ruby looked at Winter with a look of confusion for a moment, until she finally embraced Penny right back, locking her arms around Penny's shoulders. Although about to grasp her, she held back with one of the hands. Penny would not appreciate that on her back!
"Awww, I missed you, too! I'm just so sorry I couldn't tackle hug you or something! This is… is awkward."
Once Ruby said that, her partner drew back with a slight pinkness in her cheeks. From experience, she knew it was more that Penny was embarrassed than that she was "turned on," of course. "Right. Well, I saw you while I was walking up to the house. Luckily, Taiyang and Qrow didn't notice, so I told them I wanted to get something my suitcase." At last, she spared Winter a bashful glance. "Hello."
"G-good to see you," she murmured, her own face redder than either of the other two.
"Still, I did want to talk to you." Drawing back from their embrace, Ruby looked toward the emerald eyes she adored so much. And then to Winter, as well. The two women she loved, both in the same place. And oddly without a single hitch. How lucky she truly was to have them both, even if it was an awkward circumstance.
"Penny, I'm sorry I’ve been such a sad sack the past few months," she told her, partially explaining for her and Winter's benefit, especially with the next line. "It was my fault for not trying to solve this sooner and letting myself mope. Honestly, I don't know how either of you put up with me sometimes…"
Both of them moved to hug her, but Winter held back when she noticed Penny was doing the same. The latter said, "Sorry, you can go first if you want."
"No, it's… Penny, I'm sorry we haven't spoken properly about this before now." Her eyes flicked toward Ruby and back. "This is an unusual situation, but not unheard of. But clearly we both care very much about Ruby. So… well, it's her decision in the end, but it seems only honest for me to ask you directly, as well. Are you sure you don’t mind? Since you and she had the pre-existing relationship."
"And please don't make a choice solely because of me," Ruby insisted, making sure Penny was looking at her while she said it. Stroking her arm gently, she went on, "Because I want you to be happy, too. I need you to be happy. I don't want you to agree with this but be hating every moment of it."
"But I'm fine." When Ruby only kept looking at her in concern, she sighed and petted her neck. "Okay… I was upset when you first told me you wanted to start going to the club and trying things with other people. But not with you. I… was more frustrated with myself for not being enough for you. For not being wired the way that most people are and not being able to give you everything."
"But you give me everything I need!" She quickly took her hand – and then in addition, took Winter's. She simply made sure Winter's was the hand they'd been doing things with, just so it didn't disturb Penny. "You both do! I don't need sex at the end of the day. It's just… fun! Like going for a walk, or to a convention, it's not a need, it's… almost a hobby! What I need is what you both give me. Love and care, and good times. And that's what I have from you both. And I love you both for it!"
After a moment, Penny smiled and told her in a gentle voice, "I know. I got over that frustration pretty quickly; it was an emotional knee-jerk response. You being happy is a lot more important, and once I realized that you would be, and it wouldn't 'cost' me anything, the rest was pretty easy to process."
"You really don't mind?" Winter asked her, voice steady despite her obvious fear. "One hundred percent sure?"
"Not at all. You have treated Ruby well; even in the story she told me about your argument, I could tell you were very distressed about what she had done and who she had done it in front of. She never said you hit her, or called her a bad person; you were just upset and trying to handle those new feelings. And other than that one incident, she has never had a bad thing to say about you."
"And I kinda blamed myself more, anyway…" Ruby began to sit upright, adjusting her position for ease of movement for Winter. "Anyway… I guess we better head back inside. They'll be wondering where we are."
"Not just yet," Penny said. "Winter, come here a moment."
Bewildered, the taller woman leaned down, taking the moment to right her seat as she did so. It was going to squeeze Ruby a bit, but she was small enough so that she could still easily extract herself. "Yes? Oh!"
"I love you," Penny told her gently as she embraced her. "I have never hated or resented you. What you can do for Ruby is very important because she's important to me. So I don't want you worrying about me; I know you're going to keep treating her well, so I have no reason to be worried, either."
Smiling gratefully, Ruby looked back and forth between both her girlfriends. This was all she could ask for; her two favourite people being okay with one another's company. It would certainly make things easier. Giggling to herself, she suggested, "Maybe one day we can all have a cuddle pile. We’ll need a bigger bed, of course."
"You're welcome to move in with me," Winter told them easily. "Either to all sleep in the same bed, or I could convert my office. But I'm sure you'd rather have your own apartment."
"That would be preferable to me. Not saying we couldn't sleep over at your place." Penny drew back from the hug so she could lay one of her hands on Ruby's shoulder, even as the other remained on Winter's back. "On evenings when you two don't want to have sex, of course; I wouldn't want you worrying about what I'm going to do with myself while you do."
"Well first we'll need to tell dad." Finally getting out from the small space, Ruby took the blanket to finally clean her hand, passing it over to Winter for her to do the same once Penny had let go. "He'll probably be all weepy that his kids have finally left, but he'll help us move."
"Very true." Then Penny beamed at her, cheeks bunching. "Ohh, I'm so happy - you look so much more like yourself than you have the past months!"
Penny threw both arms around her and went in for a big, affectionate kiss. She kissed back gratefully, allowing a moment to open her mouth a little wider to kiss deeper. "MMM!" She suddenly pulled back before Penny went too far, laughing nervously. "That… uh… that’s not a good idea right now. W-we just…"
But the ginger was already smacking her lips in vague confusion. "Oh… right, now I remember what you were doing before I knocked. Well… I guess that's my fault for forgetting, isn't it?" Her cheeks were getting rosier, but her smile was no less satisfied at their circumstances. "Um… I hope she doesn't mind."
"Me?" Winter asked, smiling herself now. Even though it was odd knowing her essence was on this more-or-less stranger’s tongue now, it wasn’t exactly the first time that had happened. "No, not at all! Why should I mind? I just- well, if you're asexual, I didn't… that wouldn't have been something I wanted to happen. But if you're not upset about it, why should I be?"
"You don't taste that different from Ruby, really. No need to be worried." Then she turned back to Ruby and made an even bigger show of kissing her right on the mouth. "It's who I'm kissing that's important, not where their mouth has been. Unless it’s on someone who has been sick, because I don’t want to catch their germs."
Blushing rather deeply, Ruby smiled back at Penny bashfully. She always was able to leave her a giddy mess, even if it was through flattery.
But worried that they really would be missed if they stayed any longer, she finally made an effort to unfold herself from the car, soon followed by Winter. Penny and Ruby headed inside first to avoid suspicion. At least this way, she had the excuse that she was waiting for her when she left to go to the bathroom. Then a few minutes later came Winter, who had “just finished her business”. Yang slid Penny her diet-specific food, along with a few sandwiches and snacks for Ruby and Winter before Qrow and Taiyang could stuff their faces.
"Goodness, Winter, that took forever," Weiss observed from where she was showing one of the women from Fènleng's daycare a photo album. "Business or pleasure?"
"A little of both," she hedged. "How's the party going? Did you get everything you wanted?"
"I did! Thank you for the music box, I didn't know they sold them with any of my songs."
At that, Winter had to smile. "They don't; it was a custom job." God bless Etsy. When Weiss broke away from the other woman to give her a hug, she laughed and hugged back. "Happy birthday."
Smiling contentedly at them, Ruby mostly stood by Penny or hung back by herself, with the main people she knew all busy talking to other party guests. Still, it was the happiest she had felt in months. As she watched her lovers spending time with friends and family, she relaxed back against the wall with her punch. Everything was copacetic.
Until a hand landed on her shoulder. "Hey there, Red."
Nearly jumping out of her skin, Ruby looked straight around to the source. "U-uncle Qrow! Sorry, I forgot you were coming!"
Her uncle laughed confidently, lowering his hand as he stood to one side of her, also leaning back against the wall. "Yeah, Yang sorta insisted. And I kinda needed the day out. It's nice to see the inside of somewhere other than the same old same-old."
"Yeah. I can imagine…" Unable to help it, Ruby was already growing nervous again. She hadn't even discussed anything with Qrow since finding out his living situation – and more. She was too afraid to in case it made things awkward, and lead to awkward questions. But that wasn't helping here at all when she realised she had nothing to say.
But Qrow beat her to it. "So, you and Snowbird sorted things out yet?" When Ruby blinked up in surprise at him, Qrow cut her off before she could speak. "Yeah, I know. Not only did she talk about it, but I saw a beady li’l eye watch me head to my room. You've never been the sneakiest of kids, Ruby."
"Great," the redhead muttered in embarrassment. While looking down at the floor instead however, she did add, "But yes… we talked it out. A-and… it went really well. Everything’s cool."
"Good to hear." Taking a sip of his drink, he sighed easily. Never was one to have ruffled feathers. "Maybe this means she'll be less gloomy. I mean, I tried to cheer her up, but there was only so much I could do."
"Please don't tell me how." Closing her eyes tightly, she tried to push the mental image of her other girlfriend with her uncle back out of her mind. Nobody needed that in their life. "I-I know it was selfish of me to get mad over such a dumb reason. I think it's because you're more or less a second dad to me."
"You got that right," he laughed. "But, yeah, I wouldn't wanna imagine my pa doing anything with my girl, either. And I guess that's what first came to mind for ya." Though after a while, he cleared his throat, looking with a contented smile toward her. "I really am happy for you both, though. Winter's a special gal, anyone could tell you that. And I can't think of a better match for her than you."
"Qrow…" Against her will, she could feel her eyes beginning to well up. She had expected the conversation to be awkward with him, especially since he clearly enjoyed Winter's company as well. Managing to hold them back, she nodded. "Thank you… I just hope I can do right by her and Penny. Gonna be interesting figuring it all out."
"Kid, you get two birthdays and two Christmas presents now. But I guess that goes both ways." Giving a small pat on her shoulder, he smirked. "Say bye bye to your money."
"Ah, but Ruby is my sub," Winter muttered as she snuck up behind them, placing a hand on each of their shoulders. "Typically, I'll be buying her the gifts. And Qrow has seen the one you gave me hanging up in my 'special' closet."
"The one I-" Although immediately her eyes opened wide when she realised what that was, Qrow could only laugh at her reaction. “You put that on your wall?! But it was just a doodle!”
He mussed her hair slightly. "Don't look so shocked! When I first saw it, I thought she had it done by a professional. Had no idea it was you, squirt!"
Smiling gently, Winter leaned a little closer to Ruby, but still spoke in a tone they could both hear. "All teasing aside, it’s one of my favourite things. You’re really talented and I hope you keep it up."
Then, so quickly that none of the other guests would spot it, she left a tiny kiss behind Ruby's ear. But of course one did, and rolled his eyes. "God, you two, get a room. I'm gonna hang out with Tai and Jacques, see how they're getting along. Grumpy Old Men sequel over there. Take it easy."
And finally he left them on their own. Probably for the best, seeing as the smaller sub's cheeks were glowing red with their typical embarrassment. A side effect of all the affection she would have to get used to. The moment Qrow was well out of earshot, along with the rest of the party, Winter changed the subject.
"You're mine again. We'll have to think of some new fun things to do with you. How about… next time I take you for a walk at the Clamp, we see about slipping a pair of vibrating panties under your suit? Wouldn't that be fun?"
The blush only intensified even more at that idea. The walk alone was enough to do that! "Maybe…" She swallowed nervously. "It'd certainly be… interesting."
"Maybe we'll both wear a pair." Another furtive glance, and she ghosted a hand over Ruby's hind end. "The car was a preview of… coming attractions. There's a lot more in your future."
And with even more of a red blush, Ruby was beginning to sink further and further down the wall in embarrassment. She would be quite a sight for the rest of the evening, but didn't wish for anything else.
"I hope I can get used to this again…"
"Get used to what?" Penny asked as she walked up to them, sliding her hands around Ruby's waist and kissing her gently on the cheek. The action pushed Ruby's behind into Winter's hand again, which squeezed it very slightly.
Lady couldn't wish for anything more under the stars than surviving the embrace and love of her two favourite women. But clearly, history had proven she wasn't afraid to try.

Gentle Monsters
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 Intro | Part 6 (End)
Summary: After a night of running from a wild animal, you meet Johnny, the owner of the conservatory greenhouse you accidentally broke into. Johnny is kind and sweet—a little too sweet.
Genre and Warnings: angst, fluff, a little horror, like two curse words.
Word count: 3.4K
[2:36 A.M]
You ran fast, brushing past the empty and dark stores beside you. You hoped you could find someone, anyone that would be out here on these lonely streets at this time. Anyone that could confirm what you saw was real. The cold night air sent sharp pains through your lungs as you breathed heavily. You tried to focus on what was in front of you, not what was chasing you.
The full moon shined brightly above you, nearly drowning out the street lamps that dimly lit the sidewalks.
Everything happened so fast. One moment you were walking home from the bar you worked at, the next second you felt the strange presence of something—otherworldly. You couldn’t explain it. It’s figure was huge, steps heavy, stench foul. It was by itself, but it growled multiple voices.
You were speed-walking as it followed every turn you took; trying not to freak yourself out because surely, there was a reasonable explanation. You wanted to turn and head back to the bar where your coworkers were still cleaning things up, but you couldn’t.
You swore you could feel it’s hot breath on the back of your neck before you bolted. You glanced back to see an extremely tall figure, maybe 8-feet tall, fully covered in dark hair with glowing red eyes and sharp teeth. It looked like a wolf, but stooped on its hind legs.
A werewolf? Impossible, this isn’t fucking Twilight, they don’t exist.
You thought to yourself, and yet, there it was, increasing its speed as it followed you.
You knew you were tired, but even your sleep deprived brain couldn’t have conjured up a visual so realistic.
You don’t know how long you ran for, but you were finally able to distance yourself from it. You still felt you had to keep going. You silently thanked your father for forcing you to join the track-and-field team in high school.
The city streets ended and soon you were running in a large field of grass. You didn’t hear it following you anymore. You turned around and saw nothing but the bleak streetlights that were so far away now. You slowed your pace and resumed walking speed. You started to cry. “What the fuck” you whispered to yourself, doubling over to catch your breath.
You didn’t know what to do, you couldn’t head back in the direction of your apartment. What if it would follow you home? Your mind ran wild with thoughts of what to do. There was no one to turn to, no one would be in these fields at this time, and there were no houses in sight.
You stopped walking. “Where’s my phone?” You fumbled around in your bag and patted all your pockets, no phone. It must have fell out of your back pocket when you were running. “Shit.”
You looked up and put your hands on the back of your head. You were so tired, you just wanted to go home and sleep, but tonight wasn’t like any other night and now you had no phone. There was no one to help you. You were alone.
That’s when you saw it. The shiny glasshouse in front you glistened in the moonlight, it was stunning, you had never seen anything like it before. You walked towards it, hoping that it would be open, maybe you could crash there for the night. The “thing” wouldn’t be able to see your body amongst all the plants and trees within the greenhouse.
Johnny’s Conservatory Greenhouse
A sign read out from above in large cursive writing.
“Johnny..I’m sorry but I’m gonna need this for tonight.” You whispered to yourself as you tried to pull the door open. The lock was flimsy and broke once you pulled with little force. Perhaps it was only there to deter people.
You closed the door behind you and quietly walked in. You looked around. It was beautiful, even in the dark. The plants and vines were green and lively, a great contrast to the dark and polluted streets you lived and worked in. You never made your way to the outskirts where some nature was still being preserved. The owner clearly took care of it.
It was quiet, only the sound of your own breathing and a small waterfall in the distance filled the air.
You continued to walk and eventually found a bench in the center, only a few feet away from the waterfall. You plopped yourself down and sighed. “Finally.”
You placed your bag down beside you and laid down.
I’ll just stay here for a few hours, it’ll be safer to go home during the day.
You thought to yourself, in hopes that you’d find your phone in the daytime.
Your mind still ran wild, you were trying to find an explanation for what happened, an explanation for what that thing could possibly be. It didn’t make sense and you were shaking, unable to calm yourself. You turned over on your side and felt a tear run down, you were so confused and scared.
You rested your head on your folded arms and slowly drifted off into sleep, comforted by the sounds of the waterfall.
You were too deep in sleep to feel a soft blanket cover you. It was 5:30 A.M now, the full moon was gone and the sun started to rise. He watched you as you slept quietly, your hair and skin looked so soft, your lips were in a cute, pouty shape, the long lashes that sprung out from your eyes grazed your round cheeks. But your face was drained. You were like a scared child, unable to find comfort in their surroundings. He wanted to hug you and make you feel like you were safe, that you would be okay now in his conservatory.
The glare from the sun and glass above you woke you up. It shined down on you, allowing heat to finally touch your skin. You could barely open your eyes, everything was so bright. You sat up and rubbed your eyes. You looked around you and felt all the memories come back once you felt the cold metal of the bench you were on.
Your heart started to race as you remembered being chased by that animal. You panted, looking around you to find a soft brown blanket that had covered your body. With a confused expression, you lifted the blanket off of your body.
“Where did you come from?” You quietly asked.
Then, a voice startled you.
“I thought you might be cold in here” a male voice from behind you cut in.
You sprung up from the bench and turned to see a tall man in a brown sweater and black jeans. His brown hair covered his forehead and his face was soft. He gave you a small smile. He held two coffee mugs in his large hands.
“I-I’m so sorry—“ you started and turned to gather your things.
“No, no worries. This place..loves to see new people” he gave a light chuckle before walking over and handing you one of the mugs he held.
You looked up at him, he was so welcoming and warm. “Are you J-?” You started.
“Johnny? Yes, since 1995” he laughed. “Here, it looks like you’ve had a rough night.”
He stood right across from you now.
You looked up at him and smiled.
“I’m-I shouldn’t have crashed here..it’s just..there was something—actually, never mind. I’m sorry” you gave an awkward smile and took the mug, looking into it and hesitantly raising it to your nose.
The black liquid gave off the familiar smell of coffee.
“it’s just medium roast coffee” he laughed.
“Oh, thank you” you smiled and raised it to your lips. You shouldn’t have taken a drink from a stranger, but he was so warm and nice, it was just coffee and nothing more. And he wasn’t upset with you for crashing his amazing conservatory and staying there like it was a motel.
“What time is it?” You asked as you rubbed your temple.
“It’s 7 o’ clock” he answered quietly.
“Would you like to sit with me? I’d love to know how someone like you ended up here in the middle of the night” He asked, motioning towards the back of the conservatory where tables and chairs were set.
“I don’t open this place to the public until 8, so we have time to sit—and talk if you want to.” His voice was soft and sweet, it lured you in.
How could anyone say no to this soft giant. His brown eyes watched you carefully, glancing from your furrowed eyebrows to the same lips he watched earlier.
You wanted to leave and head back to your place. You wanted to find your phone, but you couldn’t be rude to this man. He wasn’t even upset with you.
The least you could do is explain why you were in his place.
You nodded and watched as he turned to head back to the cafe area.
“This place..your place, it’s beautiful” you said as you sat down on the cushioned chair. He sat down across from you at a small, round table with a colored mosaic of glass on top.
Everything in the conservatory was detailed exquisitely. You wondered how a young man like him could’ve thought of the intricacies of beauty in this place.
“Thank you” he smiled, his eyes squinted and his smiled widened. He was so bright, you were truly surprised by how gorgeous he was as well. His skin was fair and clear, no pores in sight. You hoped you would get the chance to ask about his skincare routine.
“It was my grandmother’s. She took care of it while she raised me. I would run around, knocking into vases and falling into the water as a child. I used to make her so mad” he laughed as he looked at the waterfall behind you.
“She passed away when I turned 20 and I decided to take care of it, and open it to the public.” His eyes drifted down to the table.
“Oh, I’m sorry for your loss” you said. “She raised you well, it’s really amazing..we need more beauty like this in this city” you smiled as you looked up at the green vines that hung above you.
He turned to you, watching as your eyes glanced over the marvelous glass walls of his conservatory. The sunlight brought out the alluring color of your eyes, and the rainbow-colored reflection from the glass shined down on your delicate skin.
You looked at him and caught him staring. You quickly looked down to the coffee to avoid his eyes. A moment of silence rested between you two and you realized you couldn’t avoid the topic much longer.
“I work—at a bar in the city” you started, taking a large gulp.
Johnny leaned forward slightly and nodded when you glanced up at him with worried eyes.
“I was heading home—and someone—some thing started following me” You whispered, trying to hold back tears as the fear you felt just hours ago crept back in.
“It was..big..and fast, it growled and had large fangs..it was like..some kind of monst—” you managed to mutter out with watery eyes as you looked into your coffee cup.
You looked up at Johnny who watched you with concerned eyes.
“I-I’m sorry, forget it, I don’t know what I saw” you shook your head. “I sound ridiculous, I’m sure..I was just seeing things in the dark” you shrugged your shoulders and gave a quiet laugh to cover your panic.
“No need to apologize, I believe you..” Johnny reached out and placed his hand on your trembling one. You looked down at it, appreciating the warmth of his touch.
You gave a small smile and nodded. He believed you, this stranger believed you.
“Thank you.” You nodded.
He drew back and smiled. “Weird things happen here. I have no doubt that you saw something last night” Johnny took a sip and placed his cup down. You breathed a sigh of relief.
“But—there are many..irresponsible and—bored kids out there, maybe they were trying out a new Halloween costume?” He leaned back in his chair and said as he pursed his lips and tilted his head, crossing his arms over his broad chest.
You shuddered a bit, feeling the small hope you gained disappear.
“It wasn’t..like that at all. These kids aren’t 8, 9 feet tall” you motioned with your hands. “I—I can’t explain it.” You looked up at him.
He was silent, observing you. His eyes calmed you down, it was as if he was silently telling you to doubt what you saw. And it was working.
“But maybe you’re right. Just some annoying ass kids” you laughed and shook your head again. Johnny smiled again, and you felt your heart weaken. There was something so kind and tender about him. He was as luminescent and welcoming as his conservatory. He was built and strong, his arms flexed when he put them over his chest, but his touch was gentle.
You laughed. “I’m sure I sound crazy to you.” You panicked as you second guessed yourself, your chest started to rise and fall rapidly, you feared you may have a panic attack at any moment.
Johnny furrowed his brows and shook his head. “No, no it’s understandable. You were tired and it was dark out, who knows what kind of wild things people do in this city.” He stood up and reached out for your hand.
“Come on, lets take a walk, you need some air” he gave a small smile.
You looked up and reached out to take his hand.
You walked around the greenhouse and marveled at the unique kinds of flowers, herbs and mosses you had no idea existed.
“This is called Nepenthes attenboroughii.” Johnny said as he pointed to a deep red plant shaped like a pitcher with a smooth edge. You reached out to touch it while his hand still held your other hand softly.
He tapped your hand gently with his long index finger.
“Don’t.” He quietly commanded. You looked up at him.
“It’s one of the few carnivorous plants left on Earth” he said as he looked down at the beautiful plant. “It eats the rats that slip out from the city and into the fields so they don’t destroy the herbs.”
“Really?” Your eyes widened, shocked that such a dangerous but rare plant would be in these walls.
Johnny nodded.
“It’s gentle and soft on the outside, it appears to be harmless, but it’s really a monster” Johnny shifted his gaze from the plant to you as his tone lowered. Something about the way he looked at you after he said that statement sent shivers down your spine.
He flashed you a quick smile as if he sensed that you were frightened by the plant.
“Come on, there’s more.”
He led you through the rest of the large greenhouse, never letting go of your hand. You didn’t want him too. You felt safe and content around him. He was caring and paid attention to so much detail. He excitedly explained everything to you and even memorized the Latin names of his plants.
“You’re probably like ‘this guy is so weird, what the hell’ and you’re right” he laughed as he looked at the floor. “These flowers and shrubs..they’re my babies” he gave you a bright smile again, his eyes crinkling as he laughed out.
You smiled. “I don’t think you’re weird at all. I like this, you actually care about something.” You wouldn’t tell him but you secretly loved the way the Latin effortlessly flowed from his mouth in a seductive tone.
You looked to your right to find the plant that looked like big red lips. You’d never seen them in real life before, only through cartoons. “The lip flower!” You said excitedly.
“Ah yes, everyone loves this one, the psychotria elata. It looks like this.” Johnny turned to you and pursed his full lips to mimic the plant. You both bursted out in laughter.
An hour went by quickly as the two of you walked about the glasshouse and bonded over memories. Johnny told you that he rarely went into the city, he hated how gloomy it was. He felt humanity was becoming more superficial and mean, and that the nursery kept him kind and human.
You felt his eyes on you as you reached out to feel the bright, colorful flowers above you.
His eyes watched your mouth as is parted slightly. He knew you were infatuated with the beauty of his flowers.
His eyes drifted down to your exposed neck and collar bone. He had smelled countless flowers before, but none smelled as good as you did. He wanted to touch you, to touch your warm skin, to feel it against his.
Johnny looked at the watch on his wrist. “Oh..it’s almost time.” He said sadly. You guessed that it was almost time for him to open the conservatory to others.
“Does it get pretty busy here?” You asked him.
He nodded and looked down at you with a sad expression. “Busy enough for two workers to always be here. We have to keep the place clean and the plants hydrated. It’s a difficult job, but I love it.”
You nodded and exhaled.
“I just wish—I could show you the rest, there are many more species to see” he gave a small smile, his eyes softened as they looked into yours.
“I want to see the rest also, I’ll be back and I promise not to break in next time.” You both laughed.
“But I should go. My roommates are probably wondering what happened to me last night” you laughed. You finally let go of his hand to pull your bag onto your shoulder. He slowly put his hand to his side, obviously saddened that you let go.
“Well, I have to admit..I’m kinda happy you found—or well, broke into my place..it’s been a while since I’ve seen such a pretty face around here. It’s selfish of me to feel this way, but it’s true, I’m sorry” Johnny laughed, running a hand through his thick hair.
You blushed. “Thank you, I really didn’t think it through..I was so scared”
“I know..and I’m sorry you felt that way” Johnny took a step forward.
His skin glowed under the clear sunlight that poured in through the glass. You would love to have someone like him in your life. He was calming and nice, unlike the city people you dealt with. The way he spoke was attractive to you. He really knew what he was talking about and he touched you gently, unlike any other man.
“I’d love to visit again, maybe we can have lunch or s-something” you stumbled over your words, a bit flustered by his deep brown eyes again.
“I’d love that” he smiled wide coming closer to you and leaning down. He held your chin in his hand, and looked into your eyes carefully. He was intoxicating and his touch sent sparks through your skin.
He was a stranger, but you felt like you’d known him for years. You nodded as he stared at your lips and placed a hand on your waist to pull you you closer to his body. He moved his face downward to yours, but stopped once his soft, plump lips were within centimeters of your own.
He then placed a bright pink flower behind your ear. His thumb softly caressed your ear as he looked into your eyes, not letting them go for a second.
“It was nice to meet you, y/n.” He stopped and let your chin go. His bright smile returned as he pulled away. You exhaled, not realizing that you had been holding your breath.
You wanted to feel his smooth lips on yours so badly, but it was too soon. You smiled and nodded as you gathered your things. “I should get going, I have to find my phone too.”
“That reminds me.” Johnny walked to the back of the conservatory as you waited at the door.
You watched him as he quickly walked up to you, his long legs allowing him to reach you within seconds.
“You dropped this last night” Johnny smirked as he held out a black, rectangular object for you to take.
Your eyes widened when you realized what it was.
You looked up at him with a confused expression.
It was then that you realized that you never did tell him your name.
Your eyes fluttered back down to his outstretched hand as you took your phone from him.
“Wh-“ You started but he interrupted you.
“Stay safe, y/n, I’ll see you again soon” Johnny winked as he opened the door of the conservatory to let you out.
You quickly walked out, daring not to glance behind you as you walked away.

Whumptober Day 3
Forced to their Knees + Held at Gunpoint

It is not often he accepts social invitations, but Simon has requested his company and there is very little he will not do for Simon. The Bell Isle Conservatory has a new Planetarium on the newly expanded land, adding yet another educational destination for school-aged children as well as internship opportunities for new graduates.
“Thanks for coming out with me.” Simon’s smile is slightly self-conscious, and Ronan shakes his head.
“Not at all, Simon. I am glad to be spending time with you.” He does not miss the faint lilac tinge across the bridge of his nose and the tops of his cheeks. “Our duties keep us increasingly busy, so it is a welcome reprieve.”
The PL600 ducks his head shyly, looping an arm through the crook of his arm as they make their way through the winding gardens passed the conservatory, towards the planetarium at a leisurely pace. It is a crisp Friday evening, early enough in Spring it is still on the shaper side. The building is open until late to accommodate those wishing to attend after usual business hours, for which Ronan is grateful.
“I accompanied the class of one of the girls I used to look after,” Simon begins and Ronan nods to encourage him. “The parent who was meant to be chaperone fell ill and with all the other parents working, she suggested I come along instead. Perhaps one of the only times in my life being a PL600 proved advantageous.” His smile is bittersweet, and Ronan does not like it. “Anyway I loved it. I had such a good time, perhaps even more than she did. I’m not-” he presses his lips in a hard line, and Ronan stops walking to give him a moment to compose himself. “Domestic ocular units are not anything special. We only have rudimentary scanning capabilities, and our eyesight is really just replicating human 20/20 vision.” Simon rubs his own upper arms, seemingly curling in on himself. “He- Markus once remarked how bright Venus looked one night. To me it just looked slightly brighter than a star but… He can see it, the night sky without the light pollution. He can filter it out somehow, something about specialised RK ocular units. I have to go to a planetarium to see such things.”
“No.” Ronan shakes his head. “You do not.” Looking around them, he finds a park bench not too far away, and guides Simon to sit beside him. “Look up, right there.” He points upward, before letting the skin recede from his hand and very gently resting it atop Simon’s. He feels Simon accept the connection, turning his hand palm side up so he can tangle their fingers together. Ronan looks up, adjusting his vision to filter out Detroit’s heavy light pollution. It takes a moment, but soon the Milky Way is stretched out above them and Simon gasps, mouth open in wonder as he sees through Ronan’s eyes. Simon turns his head this way and that, marvelling at the glittering lights splashed out like swathes of jewels twinkling in the inky sky.
He’s gripping Ronan’s hand tightly, and he wishes they could stay like this forever. He wishes his entire world could be reduced to this moment, right here on a bench on a chilly Friday evening, holding Simon’s hand while Simon looks up at the galaxy in childlike wonder. He wishes he could hold Simon’s hand outside of this situation too. That would certainly be nice.
“We can.” Simon whispers, and Ronan turns to blink at him in surprise.
“Pardon?”
“Hold hands.” He is blushing and smiling at the same time and Ronan belatedly realises they are still connected, and Simon has been privy to all those thoughts.
“Oh.” He says, because that is all he can manage right this moment because he has never seen Simon blush and smile at the same time and he thinks it might be the loveliest sight he has ever seen, Milky Way be damned.
“No, shh!” Simon laughs, clapping his hand over Ronan’s mouth even though he had not spoken those words aloud. “Stop! I can’t bear it!” He is giggling and Ronan thinks very hard that it is a lovely sound and Simon buries his face in his shoulder to hide his embarrassment. They are still holding hands, though, and Simon seems as equally reluctant to let go as he. Ronan brings their twined hands to his lips, and presses a kiss atop Simon’s fingers.
“Shall we head inside? The show is due to start in fifteen minutes.” Ronan suggests.
“Are you sure it won’t bore you? You can see our galaxy splashed out above us, I'm not sure how much fun it’ll be for you.” Simon frowns.
“I will enjoy it because I will be spending time with you.” He says sincerely, and there is that lovely lilac tinge again blooming on his cheeks and yes, even the tips of his ears.
“And then you can choose where we go next time.” Simon declares as they get back on their feet, Ronan closing the connection but still holding his hand. Next time, Simon says, next time, and though the night is far from over he is already looking forward to that too.
 *~*
As they resume their leisurely walk towards the planetarium, Ronan’s proximity sensors come alive, filling his screen with red warnings. He manages to jab his elbow into the throat of the closest assailant and break the left kneecap of another, but he freezes at the click of a gun and Simon’s startled yelp.
“Don’t. Move.” Human, but using a vocal modulator to prevent him running a voice sample through their database. Clever. “On your knees.” The man, guessing by his strength and build, presses the barrel of his gun harder against Simon’s LED, the PL600 wincing. Ronan slowly gets to his knees. “You’re one of ‘em fancy ones aren’t you? Yeah I seen you online.” The other two assailants slowly get back upright, though their injuries prevent them from holding their guns steady. “It’s our lucky night. We thought we’d find a couple of AP700s but instead we have the Terminator himself.”
“And completely at our mercy.” The one with the shattered kneecap sneers. “Eyes. Give us your eyes.”
“They’re worth a fucking fortune.” One of them laughs, making an impatient beckoning gesture with his hand. “Come on, out with them or the blondie gets it. We’ll take his eyes too and then go on our merry way. No one needs to get hurt.”
“I’m sorry!” Simon blurts, and it aches for him to see Simon like this- at someone’s complete mercy and still apologising for things out of his control. “If you hadn’t-”
“It does not matter.” He shakes his head, before addressing the man holding the gun to his head. “Let him go and I will give you what you want.”
“Give us what we want, and we don’t put a bullet in his head.” The man shrugs. “Smartest android out there, aren’t you? It’s a no-brainer.”
‘I need you to suddenly lean forward and jab your elbow as hard as you can into his ribcage.’ He sends the message directly to Simon, whose eyes widen just a fraction as he hears it. ‘I will disarm the other two. I have already alerted the police.’
[I’m- I’m not sure I’m fast enough!]
‘You are, Simon. Just do it with as much force as you can muster. Ready?’ Simon tilts his head subtly. He turns up his visual acuity, increasing the speed in which his optics process images and allowing him to track faster than the human eye. Simon jerks forward and jabs his elbow into the man’s ribcage, an audible crack heard above his pained scream. Ronan springs forward and grabs the gun from the one closest to him, pivoting to shoot the second man in his dominant shoulder which causes him to drop his gun. Turning back, he shoots the last assailant in the foot, and Simon lurches free from his hold.
It happens in seconds, too fast for them to process, but fast enough no one dies. A shame, really. Anyone who threatens Simon should not live to tell the tale, but he thinks Simon might not share such sentiments. He hands the gun to Simon who promptly removes the clip as he picks up the other two guns and repeats the action. Bell Isle security has been alerted and he can hear shouting, hear their approaching footsteps. He holds out his palm and displays his badge as they point their guns at him.
“Detective Ronan Anderson, DPD.” He turns to Simon at his side. “Simon of the Jericho Four. DPD has been notified and has already dispatched officers. Please phone for medical help.”
The night slips away from them as the police arrive, and footage must be handed over, statements must be given. EMTs arrive for the injured assailants and all this time Simon has tucked himself close at his side and Ronan has not let him out of his arms.
“We’ve missed the last show.” Simon sighs mournfully, looking at the planetarium in the distance. “I mean, not that I’m not grateful given the circumstances.” He huffs a laugh, shaking his head.
“Come on.” Ronan coaxes him to keep going up the path, the crime scene behind them finally wrapped up. They reach the entrance and the EM400 gasps.
“Simon! Oh!” He thrusts his hand out and shakes Simon’s hand enthusiastically. “Oh! An honour to meet you!”
“Sadly we missed the show due to an incident not far from here.” Ronan explains. “We were hoping you could run one more, if it is not too much trouble?”
“Oh for one of the Jericho Four we would do anything.” The android nods rapidly, and Simon ducks his head shyly. “The current show is finishing in three minutes. Please make your way to the theatre entrance and another Jerry will show you inside. Again, it is such an honour to meet you, Simon.”
“Oh um-! That’s- it’s very lovely to meet you too!” Simon stammers, giving him a little wave as they head inside.
They sit in the very middle with the best view, as reassured by the Jerry attendant, before he leaves to dim the lights and start the show. Simon looks up, enraptured as they take a tour through the animated sky, ‘visiting’ constellations and planets in their galaxy.
Slowly, Ronan moves his hand sideways and tangles their fingers together again, and though Simon does not look at him, a lovely smile spreads on his face.
After a moment, Simon leans over and presses their mouths together and they kiss under the billowing pillars of the Carina Nebula.

OK, angst warning -  I’m sure everybody knows what this chapter is going to be about...
Chapter 29: An Anticipated Delivery
James: Look, you gotta use Lamaze. It works. My sister-in-law used it. You don't use drugs, and it's better for the kid. Mollie: You know, the only people who say stupid things like that are men, because they're idiots!
-Look Who’s Talking
Claire woke with a start, suddenly conscious of the cold space next to her. The bedroom was still dark, the clock flashing 6:30. It had been a fitful night’s sleep for both of them. Jamie had turned to her in the night, assuming their spooning position, but with his hand wrapped around his phone, rather than its usual place gently cupping her breast.
Shivering, she slipped out of bed and quickly donned her onesie.
Downstairs, she could see Jamie sitting in the dark in the conservatory, sipping a coffee. She poured herself a mug and went to join him. Without a word, he caught her hand, bringing it to his lips as she sat next to him. She leant into him, relishing his body heat though his old hoodie.
“Everything’s going to change.” Claire said quietly.
“Aye.” Unfocused, Jamie stared out into the garden, his mind a million miles away. Then suddenly he refocused, shook his head, and spoke clearly.
“Weel, no’ everything. What willna change is ye and I, Sassenach, and the way I feel about ye. We’ll adjust, we’ll manage… it’ll still be us. Promise me ye’ll stick around?”
“I’m not going anywhere.”
“Good, because…”
The phone suddenly interrupted their conversation. Jamie pressed the speaker button and positioned it between himself and Claire, his hand trembling slightly.
“Jamie, he’s here. Arrived about thirty minutes ago.” Isobel’s voice sounded thrilled but exhausted. “Normal delivery. No complications. They’re just sorting Geneva out now, but the baby is fine. Nine pounds one. And a fine pair of lungs on him. Screaming fit to burst as soon as he emerged.”
“Ah, that’s great news. Thanks for this, Isobel. When can I come and see him?”
In the dawn light, Claire could see Jamie’s eyes: the tears shining brightly, ready to fall.
“Come at eleven, if you can. Hopefully, they can come home later this afternoon, if all goes well. See you later then, Jamie.”
Jamie turned and buried his head in Claire’s neck, his tears now falling freely. Eventually, with a huge sniff, he composed himself and pulled back slightly.
“Do ye...are ye...do ye mind…?” Jamie struggled to find the right words.
“I’m not coming to the hospital with you today.” She interrupted his struggle, saving him from having to say those words to her. Today was not the day for Claire to deal with Geneva, or, God forbid, her mother.
“I’ll have plenty of time to meet your son. Today is between you… and your son.”
And just like that, she felt a little piece of her heart break.
************
Isobel was waiting for Jamie at the maternity reception. Greeting him with a warm hug whilst managing to avoid the large hamper and flowers he carried, she beamed with happiness. “Jamie, he’s beautiful, just you wait and see. And Geneva did so well too, she really surprised me. Anyway, come and see for yourself.”
Jamie followed Isobel through the hospital corridors, just another father excitedly heading to see his child, and much less excitedly, that child’s mother.
He stood for a moment at the door of the private room Geneva was in. She was sitting on top of the bed covers, chatting animatedly to her mother. Unsurprisingly, Geneva’s face looked weary, but fully made up.
When she spotted them, Louisa Dunsany rose from her chair and made her way to Jamie and Isobel. She caught Jamie’s arm momentarily, preventing him from entering the room and spoke in a whisper.
“Geneva’s been magnificent. Look at her, I mean really look at her and think about what she’s done for you… and how you should repay her for it.” In a louder voice, she added: “Come on Isobel, let’s go and find a cup of tea that’s half decent… I don’t know what some of the staff here have been making but it certainly isn’t tea.”
Jamie barely registered the comments. His eyes were fixed on the little Perspex crib by the side of the bed. As Isobel and her mother left in search of a proper cup of tea, he rushed into the room, depositing the hamper and flowers carelessly on the table, desperate for the first glimpse of his son.
He gazed down at the baby lying asleep in the crib. He had seen newborns before, but this one was more beautiful, more perfect than any other. He reached out a finger and stroked the red down on his head, running it around the shell-like ear and on to a tiny fist, practically hidden in the sleeve of a white babygro, too big for the newborn boy. The baby let out a tiny half-cry then settled back into the regular pattern of breathing.
“I hope your hands are clean.”
Staring at his son, Jamie had forgotten the presence of Geneva.
“Aye,” he responded. “I used the hand gel on the way in. Can I hold him? Let me take a couple o’ photos first.”
Geneva nodded. Having taken multiple snaps of the baby, Jamie carefully picked him up, head nestled in one large hand, bottom in the other. He sat down as the baby lazily opened his eyes to stare at his father for a few seconds. Approval having been given, the baby yawned and resumed his nap. Jamie shifted him in his arms, bringing him close to his chest.
“Geneva, he’s beautiful. Thank ye, thank ye. I dinna ken what else tae say. God, he is just sae.. .sae… beautiful… jes’ amazin’. Can ye take a picture of us, me and him on ma phone, please? I want tae have a memory of this moment.”
Geneva obligingly took Jamie’s phone.
“How are ye feeling? I bought ye some flowers, by the way, and the hamper is a gift fer the two o’ ye,” Jamie continued.
“I’m tired and sore and achy. I don’t think I can stand upright. I’m still feeling nauseous from the pain relief. I need a long bath. My breasts are painful and I am forced to wear an industrial strength bra. But, he is lovely isn’t he? Sweet William…”
“William? Ye’ve decided on a name, without discussing it wi’ me?”
“William, it’s a family name. William Dunsany, it’s something Mummy wanted, well, we all wanted.”
“It’s a fine name, but could ye no’ have spoken tae me about it? What about middle names? I ken his surname is Dunsany, but could we mebbe include Fraser as one of his names?” Jamie tried to keep his patience and focus on what really mattered - his son, here in his arms.
“I’ve not decided yet. It depends.”
“Aye? On what?”
Geneva remained silent. Jamie, focusing only on his son, did not question the lack of response.
“Weel, we need tae decide afore we register his birth. We have three weeks tae do that, and I have tae come wi’ ye, ye ken. Then we can start tae make plans.”
“Plans, what sort of plans?”
The hopeful tone in Geneva’s voice made Jamie finally tear his eyes away from his son and look at her. She was staring intently at the two of them, father and son.
“Plans for how we share lookin’ after this bairn, when he’s a bit bigger and can stay wi’ me overnight. And how much child support I’ll give ye. We’ve been decorating a spare bedroom as a nursery for Wee Willie…”
“His name is William, not Willie.” Geneva interrupted harshly.
William began to stir, turning his face into Jamie’s chest, rooting for milk.
“Och, Lad. I’m yer Da, there’s nothing there fer ye. Let me pass ye tae yer Mam.”
Reluctantly, Jamie passed William over to Geneva as she unbuttoned her shirt. He turned his head away, for Geneva’s sake, as she guided the baby to latch on, turning back once he heard the rhythmic sucking sound.
“I’m glad ye’re tryin’ the breast feedin’.” He smiled encouragingly. “Jenny says it’s no’ always easy, mind.”
“Hmm, spare me the details from Saint Jenny, please. I’ve been told, it’s very good for helping lose the baby weight. And also, do not refer to me as ‘Mam.’ If you’re talking about me, please say Mummy.”
“I’ll try tae remember.”
Having managed to find an acceptable cup of tea, Louisa popped her head around the doorframe.
“Everything alright?” she asked her daughter, who gave a tight smile and a small head shake in response.
Louisa immediately came bustling into the room, settling herself on the bed next to Geneva. “Well, I think it’s time we started to get sorted. Doctor will be round in a minute and then we can get off home. Jamie, I expect you’ve got lots of things to think about at home too.”
Jamie recognised the tone of dismissal in her voice. Regretfully, he bent to kiss William a final time.
“Once again, Geneva, thank ye, he is the bonniest bairn I’ve ever seen. Can I come ‘round tomorrow and see him again? I’ll give ye a call first. Oh, and can we arrange a time when Da and Jenny can meet wi’ him? Mebbe bring him round to ma house, if that’s easier. I ken it’ll take a while tae adjust. Goodbye, Louisa, Isobel.”
************
Once Jamie left, Claire needed something to occupy her mind, to save her from dwelling on what was happening at the hospital.
Wandering around the house, she searched for something to do that would engage her fully. As she washed the coffee cups, she decided that she would prepare dinner, add a couple of recipes to her somewhat meagre repertoire.
A quick search of the internet and she found a couple of recipes that seemed simple enough- chicken cacciatore and an apple and cinnamon crumble. Grabbing her coat, she hesitated for a moment. Did this make her seem like she was somehow competing for Jamie, proving she had value as a partner? She let the thoughts cross her mind, but quickly decided not to over-analyse her actions and headed to the shops.
**********
Jamie opened the front door to be greeted by a tantalising smell of casserole, apples and cinnamon. He sniffed appreciatively, his stomach suddenly remembering that he had not yet eaten today, excitement having overridden the usual hunger pangs.
“Sassenach…” he called out as he walked into the living room.
Claire greeted him with a huge hug.
“How is he?”
Jamie disentangled himself from Claire’s arms and, grinning, delved in his pocket for his phone. He quickly flicked to the photos, first of the baby in his crib and then in his arms.
“He is the bonniest bairn ye ever saw. Christ, I tell ye, the sight of him and ma insides turned to jelly. And the little noises and snuffles he was makin’... he looked at me, he kens his Da already. And look...”
Jamie pulled a small photo out of his wallet. “See, this is me as a baby. We could be twins. His name may be Dunsany, but nae doubt he’s a Fraser.”
Claire studied the pictures. She could see the obvious look of joy on Jamie’s face as he held his son. As happy as she was for Jamie, she suddenly felt like crying. Why was she suddenly feeling so sad? Would Jamie’s love for the baby make him reconsider their relationship? And how terrible a person must she be to have these thoughts, to doubt Jamie?
“He is beautiful. And how is Geneva?” Claire tried to keep her voice level.
“Geneva is as she ever was. Havin’ a bairn has no’ improved her personality. But Isobel said she was verra good durin’ the birth, and she is tryin’ tae breastfeed William.”
“So you’ve decided on a name then?”
“Weel,” Jamie admitted. “I had no say in that. She had already decided. I’m hopin’ tae include Fraser as a middle name, but she’s no’ decided on that yet.”
“I canna wait fer ye to meet him, Sassenach…” Jamie continued. “But I havena mentioned that tae Geneva jes’ yet. I dinna ken how she’ll react. I have said that I want Da and Jenny tae meet the bairn. And ye will soon, I promise.”
Claire forced a smile. “I know. Do you want some food?”
“Aye, I havena eaten today. The food smells grand. Who made it?”
“Me,” Claire said proudly. “All by myself, from scratch. Chicken Cacciatore and apple crumble.”
Jamie drew Claire close to him, her cheek pressed against his chest, his chin resting on the top of her head. “Thank ye, Sassenach.”
“It's only dinner…”
“Nah, it’s no’ the food. Thank ye for everything… fer today, fer lettin’ me blather on about the bairn, fer yer patience, fer still bein’ here, fer lovin’ me. Today will have been difficult fer ye, I ken. And ye dinna complain..ever.”
He kissed the top of her head and squeezed her tighter. “We'll work it out, together, Claire. It'll all sort out.”

[ RP snippet from in game with @cineas-duskhollow - Warning: Feels, Blood, talk of murder]
Elenaris took little time in making her way to finding the Lord of Ravenhill upon her approached to the large estate. There were numerous places in the mansion that he could of been but Elenaris knew easily the ones to narrow his presence down to. Her first choice had done her well, finding the man overlooking his grounds and seemingly unbothered, but her hastened footfalls toward him likely would have disturbed what could be deemed as his peace. “Cineas…”
Cineas turned in an abrupt fashion as the sound of heels were heard along the marble hallway that lead to his balcony over the conservatory. He had sent for his mother and Elenaris had been at the Eventide Estate, so there had been little question to who exactly was making their way towards him. Surprise coated his features, however, when he turned to see the visage of the blonde woman moving towards him with a sense of urgency. His features quickly reset to that of their stoic nature. The events with Nostalrius had occupied a large portion of his emotions for the time being. “Elenaris,” he breathed as his hands moved to clasp in front of his abdomen. “The storm has just broken here. It was not safe for you to travel such a distance.”
Elenaris shook her head upon her approach in response to his words, her features seemed coated in worry but also in anger and yet she still glowed with an overwhelming happiness. “This could not wait… though I apologize for having caught you unaware or perhaps if I have interrupted anything."Cineas seemed to drop his hands the moment she continued towards him. He would have assumed she was coming for an embrace but her actions and expressions had hinted at otherwise. ”You have not interrupted anything, my wife,“ he explained and gestured for her to sit in the singular chair beside him. The worry on her features had also bled over to him slightly. "What is this business that could not wait?”
Elenaris  reached out for his hands as he gestured for her to sit before him. She guided him to turn around as she stood in front of the chair and instead of lowering down, she pulled him somewhat closer and placed his hands upon her stomach. “We have our son…” She breathed softly with a smile despite the concerning tainting her features. Cineas grasped her hands within his own as he offered them an affectionate squeeze. His features continued to mirror her own before she had spoken and a slight wave of relief washed over him. “It is confirmed?” He asked in a quick manner as he couldn’t help but smile as his gaze locked on her stomach. Though she continued to still appear troubled at the matter and he could feel the lump welling within his throat. “However, something still troubles you. Is this not the outcome you wished for?”
Elenaris squeezed his hands before removing her own so that his palms could lay flat to her abdomen. “It is confirmed, my dear, and of course it is the outcome I wished for.” She paused for a brief moment, however, to offer him a time to indulge in his own happiness at the news.
Cineas allowed his leather covered fingers to lay flatly across his stomach. It was flat for now, but it would grow as the child grew within her. His child, their child. It would be an heir to be reckoned with, one who would continue the glory of their reigns and the only emotion he could amount to at present was joy. The time with Elenaris had been complicated and ill prepared but she had been everything he wanted, he needed. Now they were moving forward with these plans. “You just,” he paused for a moment ashis hands pulled away from her robes. “Appear to not be your usual self.”
Elenaris inhaled slowly, watching him in this moment brought her even more pain regarding what she was about to tell him. Something that likely could take that joy he exuded away. Her fingers went about undoing the few buttons that held her robes together. They were simple this evening, mostly just as if it were a nightgown fashioned into an appropriate dress. As the fabric moved from her stomach, the remnants of her visit from her familiar remained and she looked up to him with a hard swallow. “His life hangs in the balance for the Void feels I am not fulfilling my duty to them. Not enough. The shadows expected that our work with the Chancellor would have already begun to produce for them and yet we are still in the midst of procuring the contract with Malice. If I do not give them what they desire by day’s end and continue to bend to their will until our job begins….we will lose him.”
Cineas watched her actions with an intent manner, his jaw clenched as the robe opened to reveal the after effects of what her familiar had done to her. It had taken a moment for the words to seep into his mind, but once they had, he found himself overcome withanger. In a swift motion, his hand had slammed the bottle of wine from the table as it crashed into the pillar and shattered into a splashy mess. “The Chancellor has been dragging his feet,” Cineas spat as he turned away from her in a brisk manner. “I should have him killed for his laziness but I do not believe the shadows would be so accommodating of such things.” He breathed heavily as a loud sigh sounded from his lips. “How many do the Shadows request for the life of our son?”
Elenaris flinched slightly as the bottle flew through the air to shatter into pieces. She quickly went about closing her gown and folding her arms around herself to hold it closed. “I was not given a number as to continue by but two by day’s end today at the veryleast. Surely once we see that our work is steady in fashion, there will be little intervening.”
Cineas growled somewhat beneath his breath as his emerald hues took in the sprawling land of the estate before them. It was overcast still and the blades of grass gleamed slightly with the little drops that still clung to them. His eyes closed finally as his breathing ceased. There was a long pause, his mind attempting to find a solution to such matters. “I will send Ebonheart to find lambs for the slaughter,” he turned to her once more as his hands moved to clasp tightly behind his back, his tone cool. “The Chancellor is on a limited time frame from this point forward. I will no longer tolerate his dragging of feet or he too will become part of the machine. I will not risk my son and heir for anyone.”
Elenaris did her best to keep her breath slow and steady as he turned around to her. She nodded as a hand lifted to rest upon her midsection once more as she glanced downward. “I feel this is my fault. I knew what they wanted and instead of seeing it taken care of I sat back and awaited the oppurtune moment to move forward…and now this is where we are.”
Cineas shook his head at her, his eyes opening to focus solely on her abdomen. “We knew entirely what we were getting into with the path we choose to follow,” he spoke slowly, thoughtfully as his eyes finally lifted to gaze upon her. “I will give my son a river of blood. I will adorn the walls outside of his bedroom with the heads of those who seek to cross us, those who seek to slow or dismantle our plans. I will give this Shadow what he desires for the life of my heir.”
Elenaris lifted her chin somewhat as he spoke, his words filling her with pride in the most unexpected manner that an outsider to their relationship would believe. She stepped forward and placed her hands on either side of her face and gaze up into his eyes. “We will together. As in all things, we will secure our son’s life in this world…together."Cineas relaxed slightly as the feeling of her hands on his face brought him slight relief. His breathing resumed into a normal, light pace and his gaze dropped from her own the best that he was able to. "I will give the Shadows this one gift,” he spoke to her boldly. “I have provided them with souls to last more than my lifetime. I command my army of Ravens by my own volition, their souls destined to join the Void, but the Shadows have broken their contract. Our bargain was not activated as we did not carry out our end of it. Arrynn was not to be a product of the Void and here they are, strong arming us into this. I will make haste in conducting a ritual.”
Elenaris parted her lips as he spoke, taking in his words and realizing his meaning. “Cineas…this is not a consequence of our wrong doings with the shadows. He is not a product of the Void… he is simply being used to punish…me.” She finally stated as her hands fell from his cheeks and her head lowered with a heavy sigh. Cineas paused in his movements as he listened to her. While her words were clear, he found himself confused. Elenaris had never spoken of how she angered the Shadows, but they had only recently begun being exactly how they were with one another. He sighed loudly, his jaw coming together tightly. “What have you done to anger the Shadows?”
Elenaris turned from him and found herself sitting in the chair as he had instructed beforehand. “I was instructed to go to Argus… Apparently there is quite an abundance of shadow and void energy on the planet. Of the exact details of what I was supposed to do once there, I was never aware as soon after I agreed to do so…I met you.” She looked up to him as she explained and continued onward. “Just recently they came to me, praising me for finding you as a worthy match for me but they were intrigued by yourstrength. I refused them in harming you, instead offered our future business dealings as an alternative. What’s many instead of one, in my argument. I suppose…I suppose they were becoming impatient and having known I was yearning for a child, they now use it as leverage against me.”
Cineas Duskhollow watched her. There was little he could do otherwise within the moment and he found his gaze trailing her every movement, down to the simplest ones. His brows knit together in a frustrated manner and he paused as she finished speaking. His hand moved to the curved blade that hung from his hip and he removed it, spinning the object around so that his palm held the blade rather than the hilt. “So feed them their soul,” he said quietly his gaze drifting between that of the ritual blade and her. “Secure a future for Arrynn and yourself. What is one more for the machine.”
Elenaris held her gaze upon him only until his words were spoken in which they fell to the blade. Her breath halted in her chest as she flicked her eyes between the dagger and him. “There is no future for us without you.” She finally stated as she abruptly pushed
Elenaris Eventide herself from the chair to take the blade in hand. Cineas pursed his lips and frowned somewhat as she initially declined his offer, though the retrieving of the blade had caused him to straighten his posture as he stood tall. His shoulders broadened and his breathing had slowed as his eyes remained solely on the blade. How many lives had he taken with that? What was one more? “You have survived many years without my assistance, Elenaris Eventide. The Shadow will only live to torment for the deal that you have broken. End this cycle, do what is best for my son.”
Her features twisted between anger and pain as he continued further and as he stood tall almost awaiting the plunge into his chest, her eyes swelled with tears that would not fall. “Yes, I did survive long before you but it was simply that. Before you.” She stated firmly before she took the sharp edge of the blade and ran it across her palm briskly, a line of blood showing slowly from beneath her gloves. “I will kill hundreds, thousands to secure not only his life but yours.” With this, she reached for one of his hands and held it in her blood palm. “Promise me you will not leave us.” Stated demanded as the dagger lingered just above his own outstretch palm as she held it.
Cineas made a slight noise that would resemble a hiss as she refused to indulge his request. Cineas was not a man who preferred the easy way out, but in this situation he found himself seeking just that. His emerald hues watched her drag the blade along her palm in a angered manner. This is not what he was requesting. His eyes drifted between her bloodied palm and the blade. With a loud grumble, his hands moved to remove the leather gloves he wore and he extended his palm towards her. “There is nothing I am able to deny you.”
Elenaris Eventide swallowed hard as she held her stern gaze over him. Just as he spoke, she brought the blade to meet his skin, breaking the barrier and digging deep enough to offer the flow of blood. “Lucky for you that I do not ask for much.” She stated as she removed her glove, despite it having been ripped and soaked in blood and took his palm into her own. She looked down as the blood of both entities mixed and flowed over their fingers before dripping to the floor. “Very rarely, if at all, do I deny you, Cineas. Unfortunately this is one request I cannot give into. The Shadows will get what they need and we will have our son, but I will not do it without you.”
Cineas nodded at her simply. It was the only emotion he could muster after a hiss left his parted lips upon her quick slice of his flesh. The feeling of their hands pressing together stung momentarily and he inhaled a sharp breath as his gaze found hers once more. “I will send for bodies tonight and prepare the cells within the basement.” Elenaris tightened her grip upon his hand as she looked him over with a serious demeanor. “I will handle it from there.” She flipped the dagger around and offered it back to him. “Do not ever act so irrational and disrespectful toward me again.”
Cineas removed his grasp from her own, his hand bloodied by both of their crimson liquid so that he was able to remove the blade from her grasp. His fingers wrapped loosely around the hilt and his opposite hand shot forward to group her neck roughly. His motions brought her briskly to her knees before him and his fingers holding the blade bounced it up and down only slightly. “Do not ever lie to me again, Elenaris,” he spoke flatly, his tone cool. “I have killed others for far less. Even those I have loved.”
Elenaris tensed as his grip came to her neck and she fell to her knees with a wince. She clenched her jaw as she glared up to him and through strained words, she spoke. “Then kill me.” She urged him, testing him in some ways. “ For let us not forget…that was your intention to begin with."Cineas chuckled quietly as his grasp loosened on her neck somewhat, his intention not that of restricting blood flow or breathing. "Killing you while you hold my heir in your belly would be pointless,” his words echoed as he spoke them loudly in the open area. “I will spare your life this once as you did entirely what you thought was best but I cannot afford to have my wife be deceptive in any situation.”
Elenaris jerked away from him as her hand gripped his wrist to pull his grasp from his hold on her. “I am yet your wife.” She hissed as she attempted to move to standing, which all depending on if she was successful in removing his hand. “I will see to his care and their wants on my own. I do not need your little ravens to save my son. Truly a shame that I will forever remember the day that I gave you the news of your son and this is how I am repaid. You have killed those you loved, you say? I find it difficult to believe as their is little love in your heart from where I am standing.”
Cineas held his chin upwards firmly as she rose to a standing position once more. His chest puffed out in an arrogant manner and his shoulders broadened. “Your son?” Cineas asked in a slightly concerned manner. “That is my son in your womb, Elenaris!” He now shouted at her and his hand slammed the blade down onto the table near them. “That is my heir’s future that you toy with in regards to your games with the shadows! That is information you willingly withheld from me, your Lord!” His tone continued to grow  in volume and the veins along the sides of his neck began to bulge with the sudden demand of angered blood flow. “Do not forget your place, Elenaris.”
Elenaris tensed as his voice raised in volume but she did little to break her gaze away from his. She was just as strong and resolute as he was, perhaps just as stubborn. “Perhaps I should have taken your offer.” She began, her tone cool as she spoke. “I am not toying with anything, I do not play games or dance around with the lives of those I deem important. Do not forget your place either, Cineas.” She took a deep breath and began to turn away from him. “I should have not come here and simply handled this myself for it seems you can do little to control your emotions.”
Cineas ran his tongue over his bottom lip in a hasty manner. In her motion of turning away from him, his gaze narrowed with furrowed brows. "Ebonheart,” Cineas called to the large, bulwark of a man that stood outside of the conservatory. The sound of plate boots came along as the tall man stood on the opposite side of Elenaris. “I will clean up this mess, Elenaris. I will get your souls for slaughter. I will save our son if not for my damned love of the two of you,” he spoke in an eerily calm manner. “Ebonheart, see to it that Lady Eventide finds her place within our quarters and that she does not leave. We need not more trouble than we are currently afforded.”
Elenaris halted in her steps to carry her out of the room, her gaze narrowing upon Ebonheart before she turned to step back up to Cineas. “You cannot keep me locked away like some prisoner, Cineas. I already said I do not want nor do I need your help.” Cineas  moved to clasp his hands behind his back as he began to exit the room himself. He stopped after he had passed the two of them and turned back to face her somewhat. “Unless you plan to void our contract of union, you belong to me, Elenaris.” His tone held no emotion as his chin rose and he swallowed the lump that had once more formed in his throat. “I will call for you tonight to complete your end of the bargain, but until then, you will be staying put.”
Elenaris clenched her jaw as the stinging in her eyes overcame her, the deep coloration to her cheeks blossomed and the tips of her ears wilted just slightly. The first time Elenaris Eventide had ever bowed down to another individual, lowering her stern stance upon them and holding her tongue. As her eyes blinked, a single tear fell and her arm wrapped around her stomach. “Fine. But perhaps I might reconsider said contract for the safety of myself and my child moving forward.” Her words were soft, quiet in nature, much less defensive than they had been before as her gaze now only rested upon Ebonheart. “Let us get this over with, take me.”
Cineas watched her longingly for a moment. It had pained him to be so stern with her. His pride and his stubbornness had refused to allow her intervention on the matter. His ego had felt that she had done enough. With a long and loud sigh, he had nodded at the large man who stood behind him. “She is free to escort herself. She is not a prisoner within her own home.” His voice was much softer than it had been, much less powerful as his gaze had caught the tear that streamed down her porcelain cheek. “We will discuss that after this night is complete,” he spoke finally. “Should you wish to void this contract, I will not allow a child of mine to become a bastard.”
Elenaris began to walk toward the exit, pausing just as their shoulders came nearly touching. “Will you then threaten his life as you have mine?” She said in a near whisper before flicking her gaze up to him allowing it to linger a moment before looking forward.Cineas allowed his eyes to remain on her face for a long moment as she had arrived next to him. His ears pinned backwards slightly at her words and he cleared his throat loudly. “If I wanted Arrynn to have little chance, I would not get what the Shadows request.”
Elenaris held silent a moment even after he had spoken. “Send word when they are locked in the cells and I will handle it from there.” She then looked to him. “Send word and do not be there upon my arrival. I wish not to see you again this night.”  Cineas bowed his head slightly after she had finished speaking. There was a hesitation in his speaking, almost as if he were to say something else but quickly reconsidered the words that were about to leave his mouth. There had been more than enough fuel on the fire for one night. “As you wish, Lady Duskhollow.”
Elenaris took a sharp breath through her nose at the title. She did not look back to him, she did not speak, she simply stepped onward and would make way to their chambers for the evening.

"Some Day It Always Does"… (The start of an Actor's Blog)
The agents are back in their offices on Monday. How is this year going to be different from any other year? A few days will pass…you’ll get submitted for a few parts…the auditions will start to roll in…you’ll go to a few castings… you won’t hear anything about most of them…ho hum… I guess I’ll just keep rolling along. What?! NO! Do you know how lucky you are to even get that audition?! This is a huge opportunity! This doesn’t happen to everyone and YOU get to do this!
So how is it going to be different this time? A good story is made when the writer shows us that this day or this year is going to be far different than any other. When the routine of what’s expected gets thrown for a loop. If you’re the writer, the director, and the actor of your own story how is this Monday going to stand out?
Now let’s go back about 40 years. Legend has it that Madonna takes a cab from LaGuardia with $35 in her pocket and says “Take me to the center of everything!” Now that’s the first line of a great story! We’re already hooked and we have to find out what’s next. Ok we know what happened to her but now let’s take yourself back to the first day you arrived in New York City. What made it “shiny and new” for you (to borrow a familiar line)? When were you an NYC virgin? You got off the bus or the plane and…What happened next? Was it a great story or was it just what everyone expected? How did you get to this point? What went right? When were/are you the happiest? When was it exciting? How can we harness that successful feeling again?
I started acting before the digital age just as the internet was dawning. I came to the city armed with my MFA from University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music - CCM, one of the best theatre schools in the country, Right? or so I thought or at least I was cocky enough to think that was all I needed. These were the days when the big corporate agencies only represented stars, and if you were a working actor or just a struggling one your agent probably worked out of a dusty old walk-up office somewhere in the theatre district. They were usually older gals with names like Lucille or Claudia. They’d have a couple rotary phones on their desk and they’d use their long nails to flip through rolodexes and open filing cabinets. The only time you would ever hear from them was if they called you. I would check my answering service like 20 times a day to see if any new opportunities came in. It was so exciting when my voice would pick up immediately before a ring. That meant there was a new message!!! One time it was this dirty old man I had been freelancing with. He left me a message saying he didn’t have any auditions for me and probably wouldn’t for the foreseeable future, but if I wanted I could come by and he would watch me clean his office. Nice. My face dropped.
So obviously I didn’t have an agent for very long. I had a few managers though, nothing too notable, but I did have one called Down Right Talented Management. He liked to be called D.R.T. for short. D.R.T. represented African American rap artists of which I was neither, so in other words I had to submit myself for everything I wanted to do. I used to run down to the news stand after midnight to grab my copy of the Backstage newspaper when it was still tied up in a large bundle on the sidewalk. I’d stay up all night licking envelopes, stapling headshots to resumes so they would all be sent out before the mailman collected them the next morning. I’d buy huge packs of preprinted labels with agents and casting director addresses on them from Drama Book Shop. OMG I wasted so much postage and not to mention paper, since I’m sure most of these envelopes were never even opened. An office assistant at a big agency assured me once that they did actually open every single actor submission…in order to separate the cover letters and resumes from the headshots for the recycling bin.
All this sounds like a shit show, and it wasn’t all hard knocks. It was a nostalgic time. I would never go back but I look at it fondly now. Without the lean times I wouldn’t be where I am. “I’m my kids manager,” and they are totally D.R.T.! More D.R.T. than I ever was and they’re only 10. CCM taught me to act and I “have been” and “can often be” brilliant when I do, but in the old days I didn’t have many opportunities to show how great of an actor I could be. CCM didn’t teach me to audition or really anything about the business of acting. They did teach me to access my real emotions in order to apply it to a character… and (as I’ve said) I’m absolutely amazing at it!!!
When I got off the plane back in 19-blah blah blah…I knew nothing about the business that I was about to start. I had to create opportunities for myself and I wasn’t always motivated or disciplined enough to figure out how to do that. I eventually learned and now I’m making sure my children understand the full scope of the business they’re in. I used to wonder “what was it all for?” now I finally get it and can apply it to the their business and mine. I can help my kids find the opportunities then know how to access their real emotions in order to get the role (or at least have a good audition) and then understand how to be a productive part of a professional setting. Imparting on them what I have learned is so thrilling…to be prepared for success, being accountable, and then rewarding yourself for the little achievements. Not that they always listen. I am just their parent after all. One time when our twins were about 4 years old we went to a casting with them because the commercial wanted the kids to have same-sex parents. My son was so embarrassed. “You are NOT an ACTRESS!! You are a Daddy!!!” He never realized until this moment that the whole reason he is in this business is because we are in this business too. So at 4 they quickly realized that some audition fairy doesn’t just wake you up and sprinkle you with acting opportunities. It’s this “Fairy” right here, and my name is “Daddy Chad!”
That’s what can make this Monday different from any other! Just getting the opportunity is an achievement in itself and should never be discounted. Out of all the actors in this city the casting director wants to meet you! That’s amazing! When I see actors being so “Ho Hum” about another audition (EMAILED to them personally from their agent BTW) I just want to shake them awake! Don't worry I don’t shake my children.
My father-in-law is retiring this year and over the holidays we were trying to help him figure out “what’s next?” What does he like to do…where is he happiest? So I asked myself the same question “When am I the happiest?” Instantly the answer came to me: “When I’m on a set with my kids.” The world could be blowing up around me and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. Incidentally guess where I was on 911? I was shooting a commercial, which actually never finished filming, but even on the worst day in American history I knew I was right where I was supposed to be. Especially since I often had a recurring temp job which would place me in the twin towers. I should have known back then THIS WAS A SIGN!!! But of course being the dummy that I was I kept on temping and doing the support jobs until I was totally distracted enough so that the support jobs became real jobs and I totally forgot the whole reason why I moved to New York in the first place!
I’m a dumbass, but there’s good to find in that version of the story too. If I had kept on doing extra work and thankless Shakespeare productions that no one ever saw (don’t worry I never went to your shows either) I’d probably still only have $35 in my pocket saying “take me to the center of everything!” If I hadn’t done those real jobs I may never be financially stable, debt free, or married with children! These aren’t little achievements these are huge and all that really matters. But for some odd reason…when I realize these accomplishments weren’t the result of becoming a famous pop diva, or winning The Academy Award, I sometimes forget to count them as successes. I’m trying not to focus on the things I’ve done wrong, but that is shameful of me.
So how do I get more of that…Not armageddon or millions of records sold, but just more life on a film set? So I can post #setlife on Instagram, because if it’s not on Instagram it never really happened right? How can I make sure that I don’t forget the art this time around? How can we approach it differently and not focus on our failures but embrace the good parts of the story? For 2019 in order to access my happy place I’m going to immerse myself further into this business and keep on writing, reading, and learning. An old friend posted on Facebook that she was going to start acting again. She said it’s time to blow some air through this old horn and see what happens. That’s all we can really do I guess and hope that the prep eventually meets the opportunity.
Some day it always does…

Showcase, overall reflections on the internship and studies
Without the Bachelor of Sports Media, I think I would have been lost and finishing a course I didn’t want to do and pursuing a job I didn’t want to work in.
Two and a half years ago, I was quite lost in terms of my direction with my life, I honestly think that I believed my dream was going to be handed to me, which was to play cricket for Australia. It hadn’t really sunk in that unless I was willing to sacrifice a lot, I was never going to achieve that.
After being in a sports management degree at Deakin, then transferring into a primary teaching degree at Swinburne, I was provided an opportunity with Holmesglen in the Sports Media course. I mustered up the courage to sit my parents down and tell them how I was feeling and what I wanted to do. The looks on their faces weren’t of ones who would willingly be happy for me to bounce around into another course. They were reluctant, but supportive of me pursuing the course I wanted to pursue, but had serious doubts on whether I could stick out a full degree. Hearing that spurred me to make sure I completed the degree.
I jumped in half way through semester two of 2016 and I was instantly hooked. I met some good people and ever since then, they’ve helped push me through the course.
By mid-way through 2017, the starting group of 2016 had dwindled down to two. This was slightly worrying, however I was made that number three and Trevor got it up to four. It was a small, tight-knit group with high aspirations.
By this stage I was completing five units, instead of the traditional four, as I wanted to graduate with this group. It was a struggle, and it did take a toll on me throughout 2017 as depression and anxiety started to really sink in and was taking affect at home, in my personal relationships and at university. I sought help from one of the senior consultants at Holmesglen and she got me back on the right path.
Around came 2018 and this was the final year of my studies, an internship in sight and gradutation not too far away. Once semester one hit, I was ready to work hard and achieve something I thought I would never achieve.
But first, I needed to learn and improve on some skills that was going to help me transition into the workforce and thankfully I was completing a subject called Transition to Professional Practice where we learn the important personal skills required to leap into the workforce. My biggest weakness, was my confidence in interviews. I am generally a modest person who doesn’t like to push my own acheivements as I don’t want to look arrogant. But Robbie taught me that I needed to be confident and show off what I’ve done with other organisations otherwise the other hundreds of applicants will leapfrog me.
So I changed my attitude, revised my cover letter and resume and created a brand new, dynamic and confident James Maxwell, ready to tackle anything thrown my way.
By the end of the semester, I had applied for over 10 different internships, the next step was the interviews.
My first interview didn’t go too well, but from then on, it became a lot easier, dependent on the type of interviewer. However, some interviewers were quite quirky, borderline strange, but I took it as a positive, as I have now experienced a variety of different interviewers.
By the end of the interviews, I was mentally drained and lucky enough, the semester was over.
I found out later that Table Tennis Victoria (TTV) and Cricket Southern Bayside (CSB) had me as their number one preferences, so I had a decision to make. During this process, I interviewed for another job, at Holmesglen, working in Student Services in the Recreation department. I am thankful for having done 10 interviews prior to interviewing with Holmesglen, because I think I wouldn’t have received the job.
After being accepted in the Recreation role, I decided to accept both CSB and TTV, however only looking to do half my hours with TTV.
I started with TTV in July, and it was great. I was sent out to Mornington to watch and take some footage of the National Senior and Junior Championships, but also to open my eyes about the intracacies of Table Tennis.
Through July I identified that my best option was to go the full 228 hours with TTV. Largely because I could see a lot of work available to me, but also because I was struggling to intern at Holmesglen, TTV and continue my studies, something had to give and it was CSB.
Thankfully, Robbie was abke to get a couple of second year students to do the work CSB wanted me to do.
As the hours ticked over, I was becoming more and more settled at TTV and I had also understood the need for a Marketing and Communications Coordinator, so I was determined to carve out a role for me at TTV.
By the end of the internship, I had created 18 videos, two of them live, eight sponsorship proposals, one membership proposal and numerous flyers to be used for various programs. I had achieved a lot woth TTV and I was proud of my efforts.
Fortunately for me, the board, Chairman and CEO all enjoyed me working there and saw the need for someone to be working in the Marketing space, so they made a decision to try and free up some money and offer me a part-time job in 2019.
When I was offered this, I was over the moon. I couldn’t beleive that I had worked so hard and well that I had actually created a role for myself. If I told myself at the start of 2018 that I would be working for the same internship partner in 2019 in a paid capacity, I probably would have laughed at myself.
I am super happy with my efforts and I am the only student to have received work from the same internship partner in 2019.
The final phase was to present my experience to the class, lecturers, supervisors and other head staff at Holmesglen at the showcase.
I was extremely excited for the showcase, as I knew this was the last comittment I had to my studies and it was slowly sinking in that I had completed a Bachelor’s degree in two and a half years, instead of the full three.
On the day, I had some nerves, but a lot was excitement, as I was happy to see my mates complete their internships with success and finish the degree as well. I was also looking forward to showing Dennis how much I enjoyed TTV to solidify me working with them in 2019.
The showcase was a wonderful day, having seen all my mates presentations, as well as heading to the conservatory for a free lunch really topped it all off.
I am so thankful for this course, it has given me a pathway to where I want to be and the resources provided to me have set me on a path to some success in the near future.
