I saw this and thought, “I like talking about my delusions in a silly way, and I don’t think it’s all that fair for ppl who experience psychosis to gatekeep this term”
Anyway after a little bit of googling to make sure I actually knew the definition of ‘delusion’, I found out there’s evidence that people with my disorder (BPD) frequently experience psychotic symptoms. (x) (x) (x) (x)
So uh. I’m one of the gang.
im so sick of the whole “microdosing on delusion”/“you need to be a little bit delusional to get thru the day”/“slipping into delusion as a treat” type of joke going around right now
#some additions:#1) no medical professional has ever talked to me about psychosis so I didn’t think my symptoms fit the bill#2) I experience hallucinations when I’m sleep-deprived but I thought everyone was a little loopy when they’re tired#and with my psychiatric history I thought my brain was being a little extra#3) I’m posting this bc I learned something not bc I was afraid the online police were going to arrest me for talking about delusions#4) this obv doesn’t mean I can’t be ableist towards others#5) I think the term ‘delusion’ needs a different clinical term bc ‘deluded’ is a commonplace word#I feel the same about intrusive thoughts bc EVERYONE experiences unexpected or unwarranted thoughts#the key is differentiating the experience from the ‘norm’#6) I think mental illness is such a common and unaddressed problem worldwide that ppl post a wide range of experiences#and it isn’t all that fair for someone who needs lithium daily to look down on someone who experiences occasional mild paranaoia#we’re all in the trenches no matter the severity of our symptoms#7) there is much more nuance than I feel like imposing on my followers so I’m ending it here
