the part of the end of David Copperfield where Davy realizes he loves Agnes ……….. carved into my heart forever I fear.
#it’s because it’s the shift from this Objective Appreciation of her and her Qualities#that’s almost cold#to this personal realization of how much she means to him and how stupid he’s been#and it falls on him so satisfyingly. as he sits in the valleys of Switzerland#like gosh DARN that’s what a romcom should do is have a moment that’s as full of weight as that#and Dickens’ writing is insanely beautiful in that moment. Davy’s delicacy and suffering and the depths of his love are all revealed#to himself and the reader#and I love it a lot 😭😭😭 I didn’t know that Dickens could be so emotionally resonant#sorry I’m just writing a final right now and thinking about this a lot
