Laying awake just thinking about what an absolute late stage capitalist scam that laundry detergent sheets are. I just came accross that Hank Green video where he calls out a laundry sheet brand for its deceptive marketing and I just got so pissed.
50 sheets so 50 loads for 15 CAD? you have got to be fucking insane. It isnt sustainable if you cant fucking afford it.
1st of all. Powdered detergent still exists. It also comes in a box and doesnt have any plastic in it.
Second of all, you can control how much detergent u use with powder, and you ALWAYS need less than the box or jug says per load. Always always always. 100 loads? More like 150 at least. These brands are also counting on you to use too much detergent so that you waste more and therefore have to buy their product more often.
"It wont dissolve properly!" 1. Youre using too much. 2. You have a tap dont you? Fucking pre-dissolve it.
When i worked retail at the canadian wannabe boutique upperclass cosplaying bookstore turned "lifestyle brand" chain, i would always cringe at the "sustainable" products being sold at jacked up prices.
Youd have to buy it much more frequently. It was priced high because of patents or because marketing and branding costs more money. They are products banking on their marketing in order to make suburban middle class consumers feel better about their consumption.
You cannot consume your way to sustainability. Please, please educate yourself and strengthen your media literacy and critical thinking. These brands are counting on you to consume mindlessly and they know how to tap into your desire to be a good person. Late stage capitalism is NOT your friend.
