It’s totally ok! I said what I said!!
I just rlly don’t like the redemption route they went with Jinx cuz it undermines her choosing to be Jinx at the end of s1 and it just gofers how genuinely unsettling Jinx is.
Throughout so much of s1, I was genuinely disturbed by Jinx. They do such a good job of making me understand why she is the way she is and how her trauma manifests in psychosis. For example I can 1000% sympathize with Jinx hoping to get her sister back, but the way she obsesses over it and is triggered by it is at times genuinely disturbing (like when she was stapling her pants to her skin).
The show then simultaneously shows how Jinx commits acts of violence for fun and is apathetic towards others suffering. Which was so unsettling to watch. There were moments where Jinx was mostly sympathetic, dangerous, unsettling, all these at once, and everything in between.
Which is why I really liked that at the end of season 1 they said that there are pasts we can’t erase and horrors we can’t undo. I loved that they accepted that Jinx had just changed far too much. Cuz yeah, Jinx does hurt ppl for her own amusement and to cope with her trauma. And yeah, she is disturbing A LOT of the time, which may not be her fault, but it is a harsh reality that we the audience and Vi need to accept. Things can never go back to the way they were. It’s a tragedy, but it was unpreventable and realistic.
But then s2 does a 180 on this idea and through the power of Isha erase all of Jinx’s disturbing quirks so they can give her a redemption arc. yes Jinx still finds violence amusing but it’s so much more tamed in s2. I was never rlly disturbed by Jinx the way I genuinely was in s1. and there is no explanation for this change. S1 has all this amazing buildup toward Jinx tragically fully accepting who she has become but then s2 they do a fliparoo without good reasoning behind it.
#you want people to go back to suruban sensibilities after being victims of political violence and oppression?#that makes you look stupid#and I think it’s the final form of gas lighting for victims#and it could’ve been a really interesting thing to explore with cait and vi!#bc cait was raised with a silver spoon and vi was raised IN JAIL#but noooo she’s the dirt under her nails I guess#fuck you arcane season two
