Just got out of Coraline remastered 3D. It was pretty fun to re-experience it in theaters.
Anyway, now that the movie is back on my mind, my personal headcanon theory is that the reason Wybie’s grandma let Coralines family move into the apartments is because she thought the Beldam had starved to death and wasn’t a threat anymore.
I feel like the Beldam probably tried to lure in both twins, but only got Mrs. Lovats sister. That’s why she tells Wybie that her sister was “stolen” and makes sure he never goes into apartment; she had experience with the Beldam first hand, but didn’t fall victim to her/maybe the Beldam wasn’t as interested in her as her sister.
When grandma inherited the house she made sure no more kids could move in, locked the door, and hid the doll away so the Beldam couldn’t spy on anyone else anymore, leaving her to starve.
She probably thought it was safe for Coraline to move in since it had been decades at this point and surely the Beldam couldn’t be alive.
#coraline#I’ve seen theories where they were like ‘she was intentionally trying to sacrifice coraline to the beldam’ no???? she thought it was safe#and it SHOULD have been safe. the beldam was just stubbornly still alive even thought she’s nothing but skin and bones and replaced parts
