THE best language app/site I've ever used (usually Very in depth and in some cases offers a whole textbook for a dollar) got my hopes up when it had Mandarin and Cantonese separate, Urdu, Filipino, and Farsi, but then there were 0 languages originating from the Americas or Australia and Aotearoa, no Mongolian even though it isn't part of any other languages' language family, and the primarily African languages are.... Swahili and Afrikaans. The most relevant for my metro area is Somali, which has so few apps and digital resources I only downloaded a kid's learn-to-read app. It's leagues better than those things that are like "here's the same 10 languages offered on every app plus one or two others for Flavor" and I've never seen an ad for the app itself, just the individual language courses, but the popularity of certain languages, among people who have the time and energy to learn them as a hobby, is definitely playing some sort of role in which languages are and aren't offered and we need to increase demand and/or pressure which... especially considering the lack of Somali resources despite the population in my major US city for years due to the civil war, is infuriating to need.
A lot of duolingo alternatives getting posted rn which is nice except for the fact that it’s kinda reminding me exactly why I got fed up with langblr, i.e. literally only caring about the same 5 languages lol
