I think after Leigh learns more about Gunter's family (during Book 3) they'd make this the one winter festival custom they celebrate every year (they are not big on winter holidays). For his wife and child they'd offer flowers from places the Order of Heroes journeyed to over the course of the year. They'd hope that by sending them to the next world, Gunter's family would get to see the beauty of the life he's still living.

Gunter would be really touched by the sentiment, I think ;333; It'd warm his heart to know Leigh doesn't just love him but where he comes from as well.
