seriously though, his voice is something of a physical anomaly! he's a guy that had an ALTO range (alongside tenor)! So if you're looking for singers that sound like him, it's gonna be a way easier time to find contraltos (closest woman equivalent to steve) or altos than it is to find tenor altinos, simply because of how testosterone usually affects the vocal cords (there's also some social factors involved in depth and tone of speaking voice, but yeah). contraltos are usually gonna still be a bit higher pitched and not have as much power at the low-end but it's still gonna be closer/easier to find.

some examples (that are, admittedly, also aren't "new" lol but they're still putting stuff out):

in terms of style and some parts of his tone (his theatricality, fun idiosyncratic vowel sounds, and rasp) but not range, the one contemporary white dude singer i can think of that reminds me of steve is samuel herring from future islands.
