I really adore this request, it’s different then anything I've done before and I'm excited to get to turn my interpretation of this song into a fic
my interpretation of this song is that its in the perspective of a person that has depression and it’s consuming them. It constantly comes and goes and affects the way they are in a relationship. they feel as though they are unable to be loved and they have a hard time trusting that their partner actually cares for them due to this added baggage they have. 
ik the actual meaning of the song is different but I'm writing based off of that :)

You used to enjoy the early morning hours. The way the sun would peer through your partially open blinds, casting rows of golden hues across your walls. The taste of flavorful coffee flowing down your throat, bringing you to your senses. Even the noise of cars passing by brought you a source of peace as you got ready for your day.
Overtime, mornings grew bitter. The sunlight became a nuisance, causing you to bury yourself deeper in your covers. You no longer had to energy to get up and make yourself a cup of coffee and the hum of the car engines just reminded you of the dreaded day ahead. 
Honestly, you can't recall when the beautiful colors of this world had faded from your view.
Although you had grown accustomed to these emotions, they weren't always dominating your life. They came and went in waves, allowing brief moments of happiness to creep through. On one of those special occasions, the universe brought Kuroo into your life.
Meeting him felt like coming up for your first breath of air after a long swim. He wasn't a complete stranger but you had been too encased in your thoughts to ever go out of your way to talk with him. Luckily, he made the effort to reach out and the two of you clicked right away. You had thought things were finally looking up for you, crawling your way out of the slump you had constantly been dragged in and out of. You saw this as your time to collect the broken pieces of yourself and start over with Kuroo, but those thoughts were soon deemed trivial. After a while, your depression had hauled you back into the darkness, stripping you from any ounce of joy you had left. Kuroo had kept you afloat for longer than anyone has ever had, and maybe that’s why you allowed yourself to indulge in wishful thinking. You should have known better though, you were broken repair and it was no ones job to fix you.
Although you never opened up about your struggles to Kuroo, he wasn't completely oblivious to the situation. He had noticed your change in attitude straight away. The way you would shy away from any social situations, silently begging him to just stay inside and cuddle on the couch. The way you would take two or three bites of dinner and lazily claim you were full. The way the things you loved to do, didn't seem to peak your interest anymore. Even the way your sleeping patterns had shifted, either feeling you toss and turn in the middle of the night or finding you still sleeping in at four in the afternoon. 
Kuroo was confused to say the least, this demeanor was so new to him and he didn’t know what to do. You seemed so hollow, as if you were a shell of your former self. It broke Kuroo’s heart to see you in such a state and he wanted to help you, he just had no clue how.
You weren’t the type of person to lay all of your emotions out on the table, Kuroo knew that much. So, he didn't want to force things out of you or do anything to make you shy away from him more then you already had. He wanted to be able to handle this situation in a way you both were comfortable with. So, he took his time observing your behavior and researching the things he noticed. 
Soon enough, his hunch that you had been entrapped in a depressive state had been confirmed. All of your actions and new found mannerisms had lined up with the symptoms almost perfectly. Now he just had to find a way to approach you about your current situation.
Things on your part were growing worse with each passing day. You were exhausted, as if all the energy had been drained from your body. The motivation to even get out of bed had been snatched away. You were at the point where you just felt like giving up. There was no point in trying anymore and you had discovered living to be so tiring. The only thing keeping you going was Kuroo, and you felt oddly selfish for that. 
Kuroo had always made it a point to care for you and be by your side with everything throughout your relationship, but why should he? Did he not realize how damaged you were? As if you were a surgery gone wrong and no one could find the source of the bleed. You loved Kuroo with all your heart but knowing how much trouble you had already caused and how much was waiting to ensue tugged at your chest.
Thoughts continued to swim in your head while you lied in your bed, curled up with your knees to your chest as you stared at the empty wall. You couldn’t recall how long you’d been lying there. Time seemed to fade away recently, the minutes, hours, and days blended together. Honestly, you couldn’t care less. Opening your eyes had been dubbed a difficult task so getting ready for the day had been out of the question for quite a while. Lying in bed all day had become so familiar to you, you were no longer content with anything else.
A creak came from the opposite side of your bedroom as the door leading in softly swung open. Your eyes darted in the direction of the noise but you didn’t move a muscle as light footsteps approached the bed. You knew who it was but you couldn’t bring yourself to greet them, it was too much effort on your part.
The second Kuroo had walked through the door he had taken notice of your disheveled state. He had been unable to see you for the past few days due to a family event that had been planned.
He invited you to come along but you refused, seeing you didn’t want to ruin the mood and you didn’t have the energy to put up a front for that long. Kuroo didn’t want to leave you by yourself but you insisted that he went and spend time with his loved ones. So, reluctantly, he bid you farewell and went on his way. The two of you kept in touch through text messages which helped to sooth his nerves a smidge, but soon enough your replies grew shorter and popped up on his screen less often until they stopped appearing at all. Panic conquered his mind and he booked the first flight home to you. 
There was a dip in your bed as Kuroo sat at your side. A small part of you wanted to hug him but you stayed stiff as a board, expression unwavering. You felt a hand gently sit atop your thigh as small circles were rubbed into your warm skin,
“Hey babe.”
You wanted to answer him, you really did, but only silence hung over the room following his warm greeting,
“I know you’ve been going through a lot lately, do you mind if i help you out a little bit?”
A small nod was given, insinuating that he had your permission to continue with whatever he had planned, not as if you had the strength to disagree.
You felt the covers lightly being drawn off of your body, allowing the cool air to dance against your skin. Kuroo swiped at the hairs that had invaded your vision and placed a chaste kiss to your forehead before scooping you up. You fell limp in his hold, turning towards him and hiding your face in his chest. 
Kuroo carried you to your bathroom and seated you on the counter. He watched as your eyes stayed glued to your feet, as if a weight had been attached to your neck. Although his heart ached at the sight, you were hurting more than he was right now. Grabbing your toothbrush and toothpaste off the counter, he placed a hand on your jaw and began to brush your teeth. 
He continued to tend to your daily tasks, those of which you had been neglecting since he last saw you. He brushed out your hair, bathed you, and dressed you in clean clothes. 
As you sat on the bathroom floor, allowing you hair to air dry, Kuroo carried on. He had changed your bedding, throwing your old sheets into the washer and pulling fresh ones from the cabinet. He also walked around your room, picking up trash and putting things where they belonged. He had even made it a point to peel away your blinds and open your window, allowing the outside world to finally reach you after what felt like an eternity.
You couldn't understand why he was doing all this, he should leave you while he had the chance. Hell, you would've left a long time ago. So why didn’t he? 
The door of the bathroom was pushed open once more, interrupting your thoughts. Kuroo crouched down in front of you. Although your appearance had returned to it’s prior state, your eyes still held a sorrowful glow,
“I’m gonna bring you back to the bed, is that alright?”
You nodded once more, allowing him return you to your area of origin. 
As you lied on your back, staring at the celling, Kuroo timidly slid down next to you. His body had turned towards you as he wrapped his arm around your midsection, the other tucked behind his head. 
Kuroo may not let you see it, but he was beyond nervous. He was anxious he wasn't doing or saying anything right and the last thing he wanted was to make you feel worse than you already did. Despite this, he knew he had to bring this situation into the light somehow. Even if you shied away from the subject or the conversation ran short,
“I’m sorry Y/N. I know your mind has put you though hell and back. I might not be able to understand it but you aren’t alone, okay? You’re so important to me and no matter what, I'll be right here by your side. And don’t push yourself to let me in, I'm here when you’re ready.” Those words had cleared something from you mind and finally allowed you to feel. Not even realizing it, a tear slipped down your cheek. Then two, and three, until you were choking on sobs. Your hand had found the front of Kuroo’s shirt as you cried into his chest. Everything that had been stored away had finally found it’s way to the surface. 
Kuroo held you in his tight embrace, placing soft kisses on the top of your head as you broke down. He didn’t mind the damp shirt or the feeling in his arms disappearing, all he was focused on was you. 
After a while, he felt your voice vibrate against his chest,
“Hm? Sorry baby, I didn’t catch that.”
Your voice had been muffled by the cloth pressed against your face. So, you pulled away from his grasp, finally looking him in the eyes for the first time since he set foot in your home,
“Why? Why are you doing this?”
“Because I love you.”
Your mind drew a blank, was his answer to your question that simple?
“What?”
“Because I am in love with you,” he cupped your cheek and gave you a soft smile, “I am completely in love with every single thing about you Y/N, the good and the bad. I love it all because at the end of the day, It’s still you who’s by my side.”
You felt a tug at your heart as he gently pulled you into a kiss. You slowly returned the gesture, relishing in the feeling of his lips on yours. You hadn't realized how much you had distanced yourself from the man you loved until this very moment. Your depression had lead you to reject the fact that your boyfriend actually cared about you, making you shy away from him as a whole. 
As the two of you pulled apart your mind granted your body permission to pull your boyfriend into your embrace, another sensation you had deeply missed. You sunk your face into the crook of his neck and breathed in the sent of his cologne.
The two of you stayed that way for a while, allowing yourselves to become familiar with each other’s touch once more.  
Soon enough, you had grown tired due to your fit of tears earlier and began to slip in and out of consciousness. Taking notice of this, Kuroo pulled you down until you were both lying side by side. Your body had found his once more as you snuggled into his side,
“I love you Kuroo.”
“I love you more Y/N.”
There was much to be discussed but that could wait until the morning. For now, all that was important to Kuroo was being by your side, where he loved to be.

The Goddess's Judgement Part 3
Direct continuation of part 2. This series is probably the most fun I've had writing in a really long time lol. I have a really soft spot for RD. I've played it around 10 times at this point.
This also kinda lost its fat focus, but the entire plot of this part is about moving Ike so it's not entirely devoid of it.

Nursing his soup, Kyza delicately sips from it. Savoring the flavor, he smiles at the addition of basil. Lifting the spoon to his mouth, someone bumps into Kyza, the small amount of liquid spilling on the table.
"Watch your step, soldier!" Kyza reprimands. Ignoring the uptight comment, Kyza straightens out his clothes. Despite being one of the smaller tiger Laguz, Kyza's clothes had ripped during his growth, the tigers affected the most overall from their judgement. Having common sense as Kyza refers to it, his first order was to mend his clothes. And mend them he did, the outfit a heavily let out version of his uniform. His vest unable to be closed without tearing it, he has it open instead, his gray tunic on display. His old pants still fit, the typical loose Laguz pants coming extremely in handy for a majority of the Laguz.
Still sitting down, Kyza's stomach presses into the table despite his best efforts at proper posture and sitting as far back on the bench. Most of Kyza's weight went to his stomach, the tunic clinging around it for its dear life, every stomach roll perfectly visible. His thighs and rear didn't receive the same attention as his stomach, Kyza positively apple-shaped.
Kyza abruptly stands up when he sees Ranulf enter the dining hall. Loathe to admit it, he couldn't prolong food forever, his stomach winning rather than searching for his captain.
"Captain!" Kyza dutifully calls as he makes his way to Ranulf, his stomach slightly quivering against the tight tunic, the fabric caught in his love handles. Both among the smaller of their species, Kyza's size diminishes Ranulf's, the subordinate still larger than the captain.
Ranulf smiles upon seeing Kyza. "We have a situation, meet me outside the dining hall," Ranulf slinks back into the kitchens, raiding it as every soldier currently is.
"Yes sir," Kyza salutes, marching to the entrance. Standing straight against the wall, chest puffed out, his fat upper body more prevalent now, Kyza waits.
A few minutes pass by before Ranulf rejoins him, a large bundle of food now in his hands. "Follow me," The two make their way, neither of them talking, the silence instead filled with their snacking.
Reaching Ike's room, Ranulf unceremoniously opens the door. Heading in, Ranulf ignores Kyza's flabbergasted face.
Unable to even begin thinking on formulating any words, Kyza instead trepidatiously walks inside, each step mindful of Ike's overflowing body.
"You'll be fine Kyza. We need your help," climbing onto Ike's moobs, Ranulf brings out the rest of the food, which is admittedly far less than he had intended, and feeds it to Ike. Happily accepting it, Ike can barely register the conversation.
"We have to get Ike out of here, so-" Ranulf puts a hand out to stop Kyza's interruption. "So, I need you to tear down the wall leading to outside," Ranulf points to the wall opposite of the door, Ike's temporary room thankfully on the first floor.
"That's Sir Ike?" Kyza uncalmly shouts, walking around Ike to verify for himself. Indeed agreeing that it is Ike, Kyza stutters before taking deep breaths, his moobs and stomach rising and falling. "Suppose I break the wall, we can't possibly move him," Kyza gesticulates towards Ike, the hero of Crimea, now immobilized.
"We gotta start somewhere. And your the strongest tiger I know, so are you going to help Ike or no?" Smirking at the compliment working, Ranulf claps at Kyza's answer.
"Of course, captain! Pardon my earlier dissent," Kyza carefully walks around Ike, making sure to not step on him. Past Ike, Kyza transforms, the energy much more restrictive than before, he slashes at the wall a meager five times before reverting back. "Excuse my poor performance," Kyza groans as he wipes his face with his handkerchief, his face sweaty. Despite the few attempts, the wall already gives way slightly, Ranulf correct in putting his trust in Kyza.
"Good job," Ranulf commends. "Now how to move him out of here?" Ranulf murmurs as he feeds Ike a loaf.
"Even twenty of our strongest warriors would face difficulty in moving him,"
"Yeah, there's too much surface area." Ranulf pensively thinks, handing Ike another loaf. "Doesn't someone have a wyvern?"
"A wyvern would struggle with such a weight. And I doubt a wyvern has the intelligence to be able to move Ike," Break over, Kyza transforms back, chipping at the wall again. Another five slashes and some of the bricks fall, a hole now in the wall. Kyza takes another break.
"If we get enough Laguz to push Ike onto something, we could have a wyvern pull Ike," Ranulf figures out, handing Ike two loaves.
"That seems like our best bet," Kyza confesses, resuming his job.
"Hey Ike, who has a wyvern?"
"Haar," Ike wheezes out.
"Isn't he the one that's always asleep?" Ranulf questions, trying to imagine where he would be.
Ike nods his head, his cheeks and chins quivering in response.
"Keep at it Kyza, I'll be back with a wyvern," Hopping off of Ike, Ranulf's ass and thighs shake.
His first instinct to check for the scent of wyvern, Ranulf pinpoints Haar's room. He opens it only to find it completely empty. Grabbing a satchel, Ranulf sniffs it, Haar's smell on his nose. Following the trail, Ranulf ends up outside and finds them.
Asleep against his wyvern, hands resting on his stomach, Haar snores as he leans back. Originally a snorer, Haar's fattened body only worsens that trait. Larger than Ranulf and even Kyza, Haar's entire armor is now gone, none of it able to fit around him anymore. His entire uniform is now gone, his corpulent body too big for it. Haar forwent clothing, his briefs enough to cover him and his weight and wyvern enough to warm him. Considering the several half naked Laguz and Laguz as naked as Haar, he's in good company. His growth mostly focused on his rear, Haar's ass generously lifts him up as he sits on it asleep. The black briefs hug and pinch his thighs, a noticeable indent as they dig into him. His stomach rests on his lap, his engorged thighs having extra room for a larger stomach.
Detecting Ranulf's presence, Haar's wyvern alerts him, making noise and even getting up.
His support gone, Haar yawns as he falls back, now slightly awake. "What is it? It can wait later..." Haar reasons, eyes drifting back asleep. Wyvern not having any of it, they smack Haar with their tail, the appendage landing straight on his stomach. "I'm up, I'm up," Haar groans, snacking his lips. Haar bluntly reacts upon seeing Ranulf. "If you need anything, I'll pass,"
"It's about Ike; he needs your help," Ranulf pleads. "And your wyvern's help,"
"He can ask me himself," Haar retorts, a yawn escaping his lips as he scratches his rear.
"Well he's stuck," Seeing Haar's confused expression, Ranulf sighs. "You just have to see for yourself,"
With his wyvern's insistence, Haar follows Ranulf, the two of them waddling back. The trek back is cut short, Kyza already done tearing the wall.
Haar widens his one good eye, not expecting his leader to resemble a blob. Checking to make sure, Haar comes face to face to Ike.
"Haar-" Ike begins.
"Yeah yeah, save your breath. I'm on it," Heading back to Ranulf, Haar begins questioning them. "I can't just move him-"
"We know, I already have someone getting Laguz to help push Ike onto something and then your wyvern can pull him on the snow,"
"You alright with that, partner?" Haar's wyvern having a much better work ethic than him, they screech into the air, ready. "Okay, that's two things figured out. So what are we going to push Ike on?"
"I haven't figured that part yet," Ranulf admits.
"I have captain!" Kyza shouts, trudging something behind him. Several tigers follow behind him, all fatter than him. "I refurbished the tables to remove their tops and combined them," Kyza happily explains.
"You did all that this quickly?"
"The other Laguz assisted me, once they knew of Sir Ike's plight, we rushed to create this,"
Inspecting the makeshift sled, Ranulf smiles, patting Kyza on the back. "Great job everyone, now everyone head to the other side," Listening to their commander, everyone does so as Ranulf places the table turned sled beside Ike.
Everyone pauses at Ike's size. They all squish and grab his fat, everyone marveling at it.
"This is no time to dawdle, I need everyone to push and lift with all you got!" Ranulf yells to cheer them.
Listening, everyone stands side by side on one side of Ike, everyone bulbous bodies bumping into each other, the warm extremely warm despite the cold snowy weather. On Ranulf's first count, they all bend down and reach under Ike's body. By his third count they heave, Ike slowly being pushed and lifted. Grunting and complaining the only sound, everyone cheers as they slowly turn Ike. Now on his side, everyone congratulates themselves before giving one final push, sending Ike flat on his back and onto the sled. Even with tables combined to make it, Ike still overflows it, his sides grazing the snow. But he lies firmly on it, enough to be pulled.
Haar tying a rope to the added pole on the makeshift sled is the turning point, all the Laguz now leaving to resume their eating.
"Don't overwork yourself," Haar pats his wyvern on the back. A screech returned his way causes a frown. "I overwork myself all the time," Ignoring their owner, Haar's wyvern slowly trudges through the snow, Ranulf and Kyza making sure Ike doesn't fall off. Ike shakes as the wyvern drags him, his chins and cheeks wobbling. His stomach sways back and forth and up and down, the pauses taken by Haar's wyvern making Ike jiggle all over.
"Where are we taking him? We can't leave him outside," Haar points out, waddling at a distance with his arms crossed.
"The reception hall will have to do. It's big enough and close enough to an exit," All agreeing with Ranulf, they slowly head towards the main entrance at a snail's pace. A couple of close calls with Ike almost falling off, all the crises are averted. Opening the door, the wyvern enters; dragging Ike inside, the wood scrapes against stone as everyone covers their ears. Everyone except Ike who's too big to move his arms anymore.
Finally back inside the castle, everyone sighs. Haar unties his wyvern. Already ready, Kyza presents a bag of meat to them, the wyvern happily flying away with it in their mouth.
"I earned a well-deserved rest," Haar comments seconds before he rests against Ike. The stone doesn't faze him, his cushiony ass providing sufficient enough comfort. Sinking into Ike's stomach as he leans into him, his warm leader lulls him to sleep.
Ignoring Haar, Ranulf shakes his head. "Thanks Kyza, there's no way I was moving him on my own,"
"No thanks needed captain," Kyza salutes as he happily marches away, happy to receive a compliment from his superior.
Hearing not one but two sources of snoring, Ranulf whips around, finding Ike soundly asleep, somehow tired from everyone else working. Ike's massive stomach rises into the air with each inhale and falls back down with each exhale.
"Guess I've earned a nap too," Ranulf shrugs. Climbing on top of Ike's stomach, Ranulf stretches, glad for a rest. Ranulf kneads Ike's stomach, getting comfortable before taking his rest.

The Weekend Warrior  - BLOODSHOT, THE HUNT, I STILL BELIEVE and more!
Since this is gonna be a pretty busy weekend with four … oops, make that three wide releases, I’m just gonna get right into it, and discuss last weekend’s movies down below. Cool? 
Of the three new releases, it’s likely that all three of them will make somewhere between $10 and 20 million, although I could see a couple of them ending up on the lower side of that number. All of them have some intriguing pluses and minuses.
Up until last weekend, the STXfilms family action-comedy MY SPY, starring former WWE wrestler (and soon-to-be WWE Hall of Fame inductee) David Bautista, was being dumped on this weekend after being delayed numerous times. This past Saturday it was moved again… to April 17, so one less movie to write about this week… yay!

First up is the very first movie based on a Valiant Comics character as BLOODSHOT (Sony) comes to theaters with none other than Vin Diesel playing soldier Roy Garrison, who has been brought back to life using power-enhancing nanotech that turns him into an assassin for the RST Corporation, led by Guy Pearce.  
Directed by David Wilson, co-founder of Blur Studios with Deadpooldirector Tim Miller, the movie also stars Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver), Sam Heughan from Outlander, and Toby Kebbell from lots of stuff, including the ��Planet of the Apes” movies (he performance-captured the villainous Koba), and yes, Kebbell was also Victor Doom in the most recent Fantastic Four movie.
This is one of the weekend’s more interesting offerings, firstly because it’s the second comic book movie of the year (if you don’t include Sonic the Hedgehog), but because as I said above, this is the first movie based on a Valiant Comics property. Valiant was founded by former Marvel Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter in 1989, beginning by reviving and updating a number of popular Gold Key characters like Magnus, Robot Fighterand Solar, Man of the Atom.  Bloodshot was created in 1992 by Valiant co-founder Bob Layton along with Kevin Van Hook and artist Don Perlin, and the character became quite popular while going through several incarnations. It wasn’t until 2005 when a group of entrepeneurs, including Dinesh Shamdasani, bought the rights to the Valiant properties where things started moving forward with a relaunch of Valiant Comics in 2012 as well as development on a number of movies including BloodshotGetting Vin Diesel on board helped move the project forward as Diesel had revived popularity due to returning to the Fast and Furious franchise.
Obviously, the success of Bloodshot relies entirely on Diesel and his popularity, although his movies outside the “Fast and Furious” ones haven’t exactly made big waves. Sure, he’s had a few other franchises like the Riddick character originated in 2000’s Pitch Black with director David Twohy, but the 2013 Riddick only made $42 million, just a little more than the first movie. There’s also the Xander Cage character Diesel created for 2002’s xXx, just a year after the original The Fast and the Furious.
Diesel’s return to that character in 2017 with xXx: The Return of Xander Cage did just slightly better than Riddick four years earlier. The point is that Diesel just hasn’t been able to sell other characters which brings us to 2015’s The Last Witch Hunter, an attempt by Diesel to introduce a new character to his fans, and that opened with just $10.8 million.
Granted, I’m not sure that there are that many Bloodshot and Valiant fans compared to the comics from Warners and DC, and even with Neal Moritz’s production company (which just had a hit with that aforementioned Sonic movie) behind Bloodshot, I’m not sure it will get fans excited, especially with its more cerebral take on superheroics.
I’d like to be more excited about the movie, but opening this weekend against The Hunt (see below) and Blumhouse’s The Invisible Man still doing decent business, I just don’t see this opening north of $15 million. Hopefully I’m wrong, as I would truly like to see more Valiant movies.
My Review of Bloodshot

The movie that might offer the biggest competition for Bloodshot and possibly could sideline it and maybe even beat it this weekend is THE HUNT, the latest film from Blumhouse’s deal with Universal. The movie was originally supposed to be released last September but was delayed due to the controversial content. On the surface, The Hunt, directed by Craig Zobel (Compliance) is about a group of rich people that are hunting a group of “deplorables,” an interesting premise written by Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse (son of Lost co-creator Carlton Cuse), who have found success together with HBO’s The Leftovers and Watchmen.
The movie stars Betty Gilpin from Netflix’s "Glow,” Ike Barinholtz from various comedies and even Glen Howerton from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” It also stars Emma Roberts, who has done a lot of genre stuff, and two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank, who hasn’t. It’s definitely an interesting cast but like many horror movies, this one is more about its premise and whether it interests moviegoers.
The problem I see in The Hunt is that it’s so political in terms of being a battle between liberals and conservatives that might just be too on point with what people get from watching CNN or other 24-hours news cycles, so why would they want to see this brought into their entertainment? Barinholtz should definitely know this as his politically-tinged directorial debut The Oath, which only made $401,000 a few years back despite an attempt by distributor Roadside Attractions to open it wider than the 300 theaters it got.
The Hunt may have the advantage of opening on Friday the 13thwhere many moviegoers like going to see horror movies, but why would they go see this over Blumhouse’s other offering, The Invisible Man, which has been much better received?
We’ll see how the reviews go – you can read mine below--but the fact this was delayed and then put into this weekend less than a month back didn’t give Universal much time to market it, and the best they’ve been able to do is try to build on the controversy. In any other instance, I could see this making $15 million or more, but because of the circumstances that surround this movie’s tougher sell, it will probably make somewhere between $10 and 12 million.
Mini-Review: To say that it’s difficult to talk about The Hunt without potentially spoiling everything that makes it such a surprising and clever premise would be a huge understatement. What writers Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse have done along with director Craig Zobel (Compliance) is an amazing twist on Richard Connell’s “The Most Dangerous Game” pulled writhing and screaming into the country’s current political climate. That last bit might decide who loves and who absolutely loathes this movie, but there’s no question that everyone will have an opinion, either good or bad, with few able to be outright indifferent about the movie.
The basic premise, if you hadn’t heard or seen any marketing, is that a group of very wealthy people have kidnapped a group of people with plans to hunt them down. Before we get to the hunted, we see texts between a few of the hunters talking about “the hunt,” “the manor” and their upcoming (seemingly annual) plans. We then meet  few of them in person on a private jet to “the manor” before we meet the “contestants,” a group of a dozen individuals seemingly from disparate backgrounds, many of whom are quickly picked off in exceedingly gory ways.
The key player on the side of the hunted is Betty (“Glow”) Gilpin’s Crystal, a Southern woman seemingly with a military background who seems to be up to the task of fighting back more than some of the others in the group.
That’s all I’m gonna say about the general plot and premise because where The Hunt excels is in the number of twists it throws at the viewer. That’s actually something I realized that I liked about Blumhouse’s Fantasy Island on a recent rewatch in that it seems like a simple enough premise but there are enough twists and surprises that it keeps you guessing, and that’s the same with The Hunt.
The thing about The Hunt is that I don’t see it so much as horror but as violent political satire because the fact that the hunters and hunted come from opposite sides of the political aisle and there is no clear “side,” so to speak. In that sense, it reminds me a bit of Ike Barinholtz’s own directorial debut The Oathwhere it’s snarky and sardonic humor though in this case with more action and violence. The hunters are extremely left-leaning liberals always trying to be conscientious to social justice and equality… but also wantonly killing people, so no heroes there. And the hunted aren’t politically correct and are labelled as “deplorables” although even the most liberal viewer might find themselves rooting for them.
What’s interesting is that this premise is shared somewhat by the recent Brazilian drama Bacurau, but I generally like how The Hunt handles things, more because I somewhat thought I knew what to expect going in with the latter and only partially was correct.
While Gilpin is fantastic throughout, it’s when she finally confronts Hilary Swank in the film’s big climax where you realize that the filmmakers were building up to something quite amazing. Unfortunately, few of the other actors get enough screen time to please any of their fans.
There’s no question that The Hunt won’t be for everyone, and I wish I could discuss it at further length in terms of which parts might click with viewers and which might lose them completely. Either way, it’s worth a look just by how daring it is for a studio film in these times when everyone is on edge, ready to be outraged about anything and everything.

The third offering this weekend, which stands a good chance at doing even better than the other two movies above is the faith-based drama I STILL BELIEVE (Lionsgate), which stars the popular K.J. Apa from the CW show Riverdaleand Britt Robertson, who is just a great up and coming actor who actually starred opposite George Clooney in another Lindelof-penned movie, Disney’s Tomorrowland. Robertson also starred in the attempted young adult sci-fi romance The Space Between Us a few years back before shifting to television, including Netflix’s Girlboss.
The movie is based on the real-life story of country singer Jeremy Camp (played by Apa), who built his career around Christian music and the faith he relied upon after his young wife (played by Robertson) was diagnosed with cancer. Camp won five gospel awards and received a number of music nominations but his title song “I Still Believe” from his 2004 debut album was popular enough that it got the attention of the filmmaking Erwin Brothers, Andrew and Jon, who had a bit hit with I Can Only Imagine, which grossed an astounding $83 million after a $17.1 million opening in March 2018. Their earlier film Woodlawn didn’t do as well, making just $14.3 million total, but clearly, Lionsgate are full behind the filmmakers behind their 2018 faith-based hit and hoping I Still Believe can bring in the same sized audience.
Not really being in tune with the Christian audiences, it’s hard for me to judge how the marketing is being received, as I personally haven’t seen a single commercial, but I have to imagine the popularity of Camp and Apa as the lead on Riverdale should be enough for the movie to bring in $13 to 15 million or maybe even more for a strong second place. The movie will screen for regional critics outside New York and L.A. since those blue state cities are clearly filled with agnostic heathens who won’t give the movie a chance, but I’m not sure reviews will make much difference either way.
Onward shouldn’t have a problem holding onto a lead in the top 10 with over $20 million despite the weaker than expected opening, and Ben Affleck’s The Way Back should hold on decently but still end up pushed out of the top 5 by new movies. We’ll have to see how either of them fare in the long run especially with next week’s A Quiet Place Part 2. There’s also the matter of the panic around the country about the corona virus, so we’ll see if that’s still in effect. Otherwise, I Still Believehas the strongest chances at besting both Bloodshotand The Hunt, which will likely be cannibalizing each other’s business.

*UPDATE: We’re clearly in new and strange times with the few week’s movies being postponed, delayed and maybe some eventually cancelled, but we saw that this weekend as many of the new movies lost theater counts from the estimates earlier in the week with Bloodshot not even getting 3,000 theaters. And expect it to get worse when theaters start shutting down which may even happen this weekend

Due to a last minute scheduling change, this week’s “FEATURED FILM” is now going to Eliza Hittman’s fantastic drama NEVER RARELY SOMETIMES ALWAYS (Focus Features), a smaller indie that might have a difficult to remember title, but it’s a title you’ll never mess up after seeing it in context in the film.  It stars young newcomers Sidney Flanigan and Talia Ryder, as Autumn and her cousin Skylar, who travel from Pennsylvania into New York City when the former gets an unwanted pregnancy and has to get an abortion away from her judgmental community. This really was a riveting film with a very simple premise that’s driven by the performances of the two young actors. It reminded me of two other indies, Lodge Kerrigan’s 2004 film Keane, starring Damian Lewis and Abigail Breslin, which also takes place at the Port Authority where much of NRSA takes place, and Julia Loktev’s Day Night Day Night, which similarly follows the journey of a teen girl who is sent into Times Square as a suicide bomber.  Like I said, it begins as a very simple tale but watching the two young girls having to deal with being in New York with no money really makes it quite a heartbreaking journey to watch. HIttman finds a way to tell this story sans pathos and the drama always comes from a real place.
Sally Potter returns with her new movie THE ROADS NOT TAKEN (Bleecker Street), a character drama starring Javier Bardem and Elle Fanning as father and daughter, Fanning playing Molly, a young woman who needs to check in on her father Leo, who is suffering from some form of Alzheimer’s or dementia – it’s never made clear what is going on with him – but it leaves him speechless with limited mobility and therefore a difficult person to manage for Molly.  As we watch her trying to bring him to routine dentist and eye doctor visits, the film flashes back to Leo’s past with his early love Dolores, played by Salma Hayek, and later in life. I have to be honest that I’m not 100% sure I understood what was going on since as with much of Potter’s work, its very arty, relying less on narrative or storytelling than mood and tone, but I did love Bardem and Fanning’s performance, and there’s a small appearance by Laura Linney as Molly’s mother that’s also great. So yeah, apparently, this is the year that I not only begin to appreciate Kelly Reichardt (with her current film First Cow) but also Sally Potter. I was particularly impressed with the film’s score and only realized with this film that Potter always does the music for her films.
Inside the Rain (Act 13/Killer Films) is a really interesting feature directorial debut from Aaron Fisher, in which he plays college film student Benjamin Glass, who suffers from ADHD, OCD and borderline personality disorders and is also bipolar, referring to himself as “recklessly extravagant.” When his illnesses lead to a possible drug overdose, the dean of the college decides to give Ben the boot, but he decides to use his filmmaking skills to make a film to fight the dean’s decision. Along the way, he meets a sex worker (Ellen Toland) who he convinces to be in his movie although he starts developing a crush on her. What’s interesting about Fisher’s film is that a lot of it is based on personal stories since he himself suffers from personality disorder and is bipolar, but he decided to use his talents to inform others on what it’s like to dealing with these issues, getting the likes of Rosie Perez and Eric Roberts to be a part of the cast. I’m not sure this movie will be for everyone, but I think it’s quite a brave effort by Fisher which I hope people will check out. It opens at New York’s Village East on Friday and in L.A. on March 20 and other citieson March 27. (For the sake of transparency, I helped with some of the publicity work on this film.)
Opening in select theaters this Friday and then streaming on Hulu next Friday is Jason Orley’s Big Time Adolescence (NEON), starring Pete Davidson from “Saturday Night Live” and Griffin Gluck, the latter playing 16-year-old Mo, a mostly innocent guy who is trying to navigate high school with the guidance of his best friend and college drop-out Zeke (Davidson). When Zeke starts teaching Mo untraditional life lessons about dating, partying and drug dealing, causing Mo’s father (Jon Cryer) to realize he needs to step in. The movie premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Famke Janssen star in Danis Tanovic’s thriller The Postcard Killings (RLJE Films), based on James Patterson and Liza Marklund’s best-selling novel with Morgan playing New York Detective Jacob Kanon, whose daughter and son-in-law are killed in London. As Jacob starts learning about a series of journalist murders in Europe, each one preceded by a postcard, he goes after the killer to get justice for his daughter. As with most RLJE films, it will get a limited theatrical release and be On Demand and digital.
Australian actor Rachel Griffiths makes her directorial debut with Ride Like a Girl (Saban Films/Paramount), based on the true story of the first female horse jockey to win the 2015 Melbourne Cup, Michelle Payne, as played by the wonderful Teresa Palmer. Sam Neill plays Michelle’s father Paddy who supports her when she decides to leave school as a teenager to become a jockey, overcoming tragedy and a nearly fatal fall along the way. The movie will open in select theaters (including New York’s Village East) as well as On Demand and Digital this Friday.
Cindy Meehl’s The Dog Doc (a somewhat self-explanatory title there?) will open at New York’s Quad Cinema this Friday and at the Laemmle Royalin L.A. next Friday, March 20. It takes a look at veterinarian Dr. Marty Goldstein whose practice at the Smith Ridge Veterinary Center where he treats animals using holistic care.
Meanwhile Adam Bolt’s doc Human Nature (Greenwich), opening in New York and L.A., deals with the breakthrough and controversial medical process known as CRISPR which looks at how DNA can be changed from before birth to avoid diseases and even be used to “design our children.” The film talks to the scientists behind CRISPR and how it will change our relationship with nature and evolution. (Note: The Village East Cinema has a lot of amazing guests talking about the movie and its implications over the next week, including the one and only Dan Rather!)
Last up is Philip Harder’s Tuscaloosa (Cinedigm), based on the Southern novel by W. Glasgow Phillips, which takes place in Alabama, 1972 with Devon Bostick playing Billy, a young man who falls for a patient at his father’s mental asylum (played by Natalia Dyer from “Stranger Things”). At the same time, Billy’s best friend becomes involved in the civil rights movement against Tuscaloosa’s power elite. Having premiered at the Nashville Film Festival last Fall, this hits select theaters, VOD and Digital HD this Friday.
REPERTORY
Besides the usual repertory theater offerings in New York and L.A. (listed below), select AMC theaters will be screening the horror classic The Exorcist on Friday night as part of the “She Is Risen” lead-up to A24’s upcoming horror film Saint Maud.  This will continue over the next few Fridays until an advance preview of Saint Maud on Wednesday, April 1.
METROGRAPH (NYC):
Let’s see what’s going on at my favorite local NY theater. Well, first of all, the Metrograph will be screening Satoshi Kon’s fantastic 2003 film Tokyo Godfathers over the weekend and probably into next week. (Saturday afternoon will be the only English-dubbed screening of the movie with an intro by voice actor Shakina Nayfack!) This Friday night will be a screening of Michael Mann’s 1992 movie Last of the Mohicans, starring the great Daniel Day-Lewis, as part of its “Academy at Metrograph” series.This weekend’s “Late Nites at Metrograph“ is John Waters’ Cry Baby (1990), starring Johnny Depp, while “Metrograph Matinees” will present James Neilson’ sci-fi satire Moon Pilot (1962).
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE BROOKLYN (NYC)
Tonight’s “Weird Wednesday” is the 1985 action film Swords of Heaven (already sold out, sorry!) Next Monday is the latest in the Alamo’s “Remakes and Hot Takes” series with Eddie Murphy’s 1996 film The Nutty Professor. A day later, my pal Ted Geoghegan is showing another esoteric offering for “Terror Tuesday,”  with 1990’s Death Spa, and the Alamo is also doing a “The Departed St. Patrick’s Day Dinner” also as part of the “Remakes and Hot Takes” series but this one with a special St. Patrick’s Day menu. Next week’s “Weird Wednesday” is the 1985 aerobics movie Perfect, starring John Travolta and Jamie Lee Curtis.
Over in L.A., the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown L.A.will screen Bobcat Goldthwait’s 2011 movie God Bless America as the “Weird Wednesday” tonight with Joe Lynch and Adam Green filming an episode of their “The Movie Crypt” podcast after the screening. (Sadly, it’s already sold out.) Thursday’s screening of Michael Mann’s 2006 Miami Vice movie is also sold out, unfortunately. Saturday’s “Champagne Cinema” is the comedy classic Bridesmaids. Sunday’s “Remakes and Hot Takes” is the 1996 The Birdcage (two shows sold out!) and then later that night, John Carpenter’s The Thing (1982) gets two screenings, one which is sold out. Monday evening is a “Billy Madison Quote-along” which should be fun, while L.A. does its own “The Departed St. Patrick’s Day Dinner” Tuesday and its “Terror Tuesday” is 1962’s Carnival of Soulswith the wonderful Alicia Malone from Turner Classic Movies. Next week’s “Weird Wednesday” is two screenings of 1994’s Tammy and the T-Rexwith Paul Scheer at the 9pm screening.

Weds’ “Afternoon Classic” matinee is Clint Eastwood’s The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), while the Weds/Thurs cross-dressing double feature is La Cage Aux Folles (1978) and Blake Edwards’ Victor/Victoria (1982). This Friday’s “Freaky Friday” is appropriatelyJason X (2001)with screenwriter Todd Farmer in person. Friday and Saturday night, there’s an awesome double feature of Edgar Wright’s Hot Fuzz(2007) with Benny Chan’s 1996 Hong Kong film Big Bullet. Saturday night’s midnight is the Malcolm McDowell debut, O, Lucky Man! (1973) while the Kiddee Matinee continues the Harry Potter run with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1. Saturday and Sunday also sees this month’s “Cartoon Club” offerings. The Sunday/Monday double feature is two movies starring Barbara Stanwyk, The Two Mrs. Carrolls  (1947) and The Bitter Tea of General Yen  (1932). The “End of History: The Cinema of Lav Diaz” continues Sat. with 2014’s From What Is Before, and “Noir City: Hollywood” has an all-day five film marathon all in 35mm with 1947’s Out of the Past, The Guiltyand High Tide, and The Prowlerand Try and Get Mefrom 1951. Sunday’s matinee double feature as part of “Noir City: Hollywood” is Portrait of Jennie (1948) and Girl with Hyacinths (1950) and then that night is The Spiritualist (1948) and In the Palm of Your Hand (1949). In other words, if you’re a fan of film noir and you live in L.A. and you’re not spending at least a few hours at the Egyptian this week, then I’m not sure what to tell ya.

Greg Proops Film Club presents Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 film High and Lowon Weds. night, and then Thursday’s matinee (free to members!) is Truffaut’s The 400 Blows. The “Woman Film Editors: An Assembly” series begins on Thursday with Paul Thomas nderson’s Punch Drunk Love (2002) and Barry Jenkins’ Oscar Best Picture Schmoonlight(2016). The series continues Friday with a double feature of George Lucas’ American Graffiti (1973) and Francis Ford Coppola’s The Outsiders (1983), while the Saturday double feature is Soderbergh’s Out of Sight and Tarantino’s Jackie Brown with Michael Keaton playing the same character in both of them! Sunday is a special DCP screening of Cecil B. Demille’s nearly four-hour The Ten Commandments (1956)!
FILM FORUM (NYC):
The series “The Women Behind Hitchcock” continues with Hitchcock’s 1950 film Stage Fright and the Joan Harrison-written 1944 film Dark Waters on Wednesday, as well as Young and Innocent and The Passing of the Third Floor Back, plus a lot more through the weekend. Honestly, the best thing to do is click on the title link above for the full schedule. This weekend’s “Film Forum Jr.” is the Marx Brothers film Go West from 1940.

There is new stuff on Netflix this week but nothing I really know much about: the first season of Norwegian anthology series “Bloodride,” the third season of something called “Elite,” although I’m kind of interested in Liz Garbus’ Lost Girls, starring Amy Ryan. You know what? Other than getting the trailer in January, I have heard absolutely nothing about this movie, so I guess if Netflix doesn’t want their movies covered, that’s just fine by me.
Premiering on Disney+ this Friday is Star Girl, the new romantic drama directed by Julia Hart (last year’s Fast Color), starring Grace VanderWaal as Stargirl Caraway, a colorful new girl at school that captures the interest of Graham Verchere’s Leo Borlock. That’s about all I know about it.
Next week, it’s John Krasinski’s horror sequel A Quiet Place: Part 2!

BACKGROUND + PERSONALITY.
born and raised in berlin, germany until his mother decided to move to the us when basil was twelve.
despite growing up bilingual, he had difficulties adjusting to the new surroundings and rather spent his free time drawing, eventually building up universes without needing any context and instead having the designs speak for themselves.
after finishing high school at age sixteen basil took a gap year to travel through europe with money they earned from several jobs during school times. bas was v very introverted back then, so it served as a challenge which once again they had difficulties with at first. but ofc you can’t get around without trying, so bas did. he’s still more of an ambivalent than an extrovert, but this journey made him see the beauty of uncertainty and they loved it.
also ik i used he & they in that last paragraph instead of just one bc basil honestly truly doesn’t care which one others use as long as they acknowledge bas isn’t cis bc he’s v open about his gender along with being pan .. but that’s another thing.
basil has a very high iq, but always prevented others from knowing about it. he basically failed tests on purpose back in germany and in the us he always made sure others don’t feel bad about their results and said his were worse even though he probably always got an a+, thus resulting in bas being able to skip two grades.
his mother had to carry two jobs to make a living for the two of them, which was one of the reasons why bas sold his art from a young age. thankfully it was actually decent ( coughs and looks @ ryan reynolds’ twitter ) and ppl actually wanted to pay good money for it. this was also one of the key moments in which bas realized they wanted to have their profession somewhere in the art department.
married his high school sweetheart in las vegas as soon as they both turned eighteen, but divorced just three weeks later. this is just one of their impulsive decisions as bas isn’t much of a planner, they rather have a few good laughs when telling the story ( even for the 10th time ) instead of asking what if. the only thing bas ever truly planned was becoming a comic book artist. they’re still at the very beginning as basil’s v young, but they’re just as determined to make it in the industry.
basil’s mother was always into greek mythology and even gave her child the middle name cerberus, which literally is the most dangerous thing about him and while he’s into mythology himself, he doesn’t really tell anyone his middle name as he’d rather not be compared to a three-headed dog .. but if he ever ends up drunk u can bet he’d insist on being called cerberus and nothing else.
being a comic book artist basil’s an avid comic reader as well, but mostly prefers indie comics as they’re more his kind of humor. speaking of, basil’s more of a morbid humor kind of pal ? but he’ll also immediately apologize if he takes it too far bc he values comfort even more than getting a laugh out of others and himself.
huge fan of dogs, literally the person that points at a dog and says “aw.” and definitely wants to pet them.
the least scorpio-like scorpio you will ever meet, and trust me this is coming from a Real Scorpio™.
ends up in a lot of weird scenarios while just trying their best, but always tries to take it with humor especially if someone’s with them.
most of his friends wouldn’t expect it, but basil’s very romantic, like going all out even for a first date and is probably doing waay too much for his opposite.
not really into the whole sex, drugs n rock ‘n’ roll as he prefers to maybe drink a few beers with his closest friends due to seeing what alcohol can do to people on an almost daily basis as a bartender. however, all of kian’s tattoos are canon for bas except for the native american and butterfly ones.

literally everything but to be basic .. a best friend ( who might even know about his high iq bc he truly doesn’t tell anyone ), bad influence ( basil’s not exactly innocent or good himself but there’s always worse am i right ), childhood friend ( someone he considered a friend after moving to a completely new country ), enemy ( maybe they’re of the opposite group or even in the same and they had some fight that led to it or just disliking each other for apparently no reason at all just .. pls give me smth negative ), ex on good/bad terms ( as basil’s pretty romantic it could’ve been too much for the other or literally any other reason k thanks ), someone who hates his jokes ( plain n simple .. kewl ), my brain is scattered bc it’s almost 2am rn so i Def missed 820397 plots i’d love but u know what .. i’m a plot pro so shrugs. also i nearly wrote pro plot so u get me now .. pls killme KMDSX.

just as a small disclaimer: if anyone read girls on fire by robin wasserman, saint’s personality is heavily inspired by one of the characters in it aka lacey. and if u haven’t read it .. pls do it if you’re even just remotely into ya literature.
born and raised in los angeles, us, saint was practially thrown into the lives of the rich and famous. her parents were big in hollywood back in the 80s & 90s and gave those legacies to her.
being practially raised by nannies, saint didn’t really have a connection to her parents till they retired when she was fourteen. from there it was basically always good which is .. v weird but they somehow made it work.
as soon as saint turned eighteen she decided to change her last name to her mother’s maiden name, as she’s never been a fan of women having to give up their names just for being married even if it’s voluntary. this also resulted in her imdb page ( she truly made it huh. ) being “divived” into saint bartowski ( also shoutout @ anyone who gets this ref ) and saint deveraux.
at age eighteen saint also let out her true self, at least towards her parents. she admitted to worshipping lucifer just to piss them off and see how they’d react, it was just a game for her. but to be as convincing as possible, she did the most, even though she would’ve already had them just with her words, but saint always wanted to know just how far she could take it.
to the public she’s seen as this socialite turned actress who never did anything wrong, but just due to her parents and herself keeping everything under a neat little rug.
saint’s a very passionate person and loves to be surrounded or admired by people, but at the same time she doesn’t really care about anyone, no matter how many i love yous she’s going to whisper into someone’s ear or no broken promises ever.
as a result of the press putting labels onto her 24/7 she resents them. the only one she’ll ever claim is being in the lgbtq+ com as it’s basically the only thing in her life she truly cares about besides acting and her cats. however saint also makes a lot of fun of men and highly prefers females and nb pals for .. u know what.
she can also be extra af as she literally bought an old vw t1 bus in st. tropez for the short amount of time she’s there and have it look exactly like the one she has back in la with the pride flag sprayed on its roof and every little sticker/detail on its doors, etc.
getting to her job .. she currently stars in a made up netflix show that’s somewhere between veronica mars, twin peaks and 21 jump street ( the movie version ). i actually made a whole filmography for her but i’m too lazy for graphics and i’m not even sure whether i can use real movies/shows so oo. but if u want a list i can tots send it via disc*rd ( btw mine is artcmis#4377 ). and just know that she admires amber heard and mostly chooses roles like her aka not the damsel in distress. tho she would def love to save that kind of character one day .. js.
this is getting soo messy already omg. but to put her in a nutshell, saint’s a callous, manipulative, control loving, determined scorpio who also happens to be an actress, cat lover and feminist putting up a facade daily. also she can’t handle relationships for shhhit.

By AbdulRaheem Aodu, Kaduna, Ezrel Tabiowo and Musa Umar Bologi, Abuja Barely eleven months after the governing All Progressives Congress in Kaduna state demolished the house of the party’s National Vice Chairman, North-west, Inuwa Abdulkadir, another party chieftain, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, has suffered same fate.
And like Abdulkadir, the government said the felled structure was at variant with the state’s building code. But Hunkuyi, a serving lawmaker representing Kaduna North in the National Assembly, insists that it was pulled down because he holds different political views from that of the governor, Nasir El-Rufai, assuring that nemesis will catch up with the governor.
He also alleged that the governor personally supervised the demolition exercise in the early hours of yesterday, using some stern looking soldiers to stave off possible opposition from the neighbourhood. The structure, a duplex building with round fencing, was at about 5.am reduced to rubbles by a bulldozer.
The vehicles within the premises were however unaffected. But the military, however, debunked the claim, saying none of its officers and men was involved in any illegal duty. Hunkuyi is the leader of the Restoration Group, a faction of the state APC, and donated the ill-fated residence located at 11B Sambo Road, Kaduna, as the faction’s secretariat. The faction, had from the recently commissioned secretariat, issued a query to the governor and suspended three of his aides. And three days after the query went unanswered; the Hunkuyiled faction suspended Governor el-Rufai for six months, even as the rival faction described the sanction as laughable.
Government justifies action
Justifying the action, the state government said the building was pulled down by the Kaduna State Urban Planning and Developing Agency (KASUPDA), for flagrant violations of land use and nonpayment of ground rent since 2010. The position was made known in a statement yesterday, by the Director General of Kaduna Geographic Information System (KADGIS), Malam Ibrahim Husseini.
The statement read: “The Kaduna State Urban Planning and Development Agency (KAPSUDA), is currently undertaking operations across Kaduna metropolis in partnership with sister agencies. KASUPDA is clearing illegal structures, tackling street hawking and restoring order across Kaduna.
“This morning, a building on 11B Sambo Close, was removed for flagrant violations of land use and non-payment of ground rent since 2010. This illegal violation of land use had begun to distress neighbours who were being forced to endure an influx of thugs and blockage of the road.
“The Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS) issued a revocation notice of statutory right of occupancy No. KD. 16712, that covers 11B Sambo Close in the Ungwan Rimi area. The appropriate notice of revocation was delivered at 28 Inuwa Wada Road, the registered address of the company that held the title to the property.
“The notice was also delivered to the building in question, and sent by post to the registered address of the previous title holder. The land has now been allocated to KASUPDA for the purpose of developing and maintaining a public park that will provide a green area and a serene place for recreation in that residential neighbourhood. “KADGIS wishes to remind all title owners to be fastidious in complying with the terms of their allocation.
The purpose of allocation of land cannot be wilfully altered; neither can title holders lawfully neglect to pay their ground rents. “Since 2016, the government has been taking action on various land related matters, including revoking all undeveloped land titles in the state and directed that all abandoned buildings be developed within three months of the notice.”

Countering the government’s position on his official twitter handle, the lawmaker said the demolition was carried out by Governor el-Rufai as part of the ongoing crisis bordering on party control in the state. He said: “In the early hours of today, the @GovKaduna Mallam @ elrufai personally drove a bulldozer accompanied by armoured tanks to destroy my house at 11B Sambo Road.
This is a new low and fighting dirty with such low level of pettiness is indeed unprecedented in Kaduna state. “It is on record that few months back, @GovKaduna Mallam @elrufai marked another property of mine in Hunkuyi town for demolition, but residents of the area prevented the officials from demolishing it. “Today, he came well prepared with military men to destroy my house at Sambo Road.
“This is also the same way, Mallam @elrufai destroyed the house of the APC Dep National Chairman North-west, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir months back, which tells you that the governor is reckless, petty & can’t stand political pressure, without resorting to being a ruthless dictator.”
Meanwhile, stern looking thugs have taken over the building, keeping vigil at the ruins of the building and brandishing their already loaded catapults, indicating their readiness for ‘war.
’ Nemesis awaits governor -Hunkuyi
Also briefing journalists in Abuja yesterday, Senator Hunkuyi said the governor will be haunted by the consequences of his actions in no distant time.
While saying he had forgiven El-Rufai for the act, the lawmaker, however, warned that the governor’s action would no doubt attract consequences. According to him, the demolition of his property was one of the oppressive devices of the state government to silent him as a strong opposition voice.
He, however, vowed to remain undeterred in the face of persecution, adding that the recent action by the governor will rather strengthen him to stay with the electorate who are daily victims of the governor’s misrule.
According to him, the demolition was not too much a price to pay for democracy to thrive in the state, adding that he had donated the facility to the state APC for political activities. The lawmaker therefore wondered why the governor, whom he said benefitted from the building, will wake up as early as 4:00am and go to the site to personally supervise the demolition exercise.
While claiming that majority of the people of the state are against the decisions being taken by the governor, Hunkuyi accused the APCled government of having jailed those who oppose its wishes. The lawmaker therefore vowed that he will continue to express and defend the interest of his people, irrespective of whose ox is gored, just as he accused the governor of not accepting advice.
Senate condemns act Earlier, rising on Order 43 of the Senate Standing Rule, Senator Shehu Sani (APC Kaduna Central), said in the governor’s thinking, the demolition would send a clear message to other persons outside of the state and other parts of the country, to remain silent and conform to the will and wishes of people in position of those presently in power.
“In the last two and half years, we have been faced with tyranny and open dictatorship in Kaduna state. My constituency office was attacked by violent thugs, and it has also been clear that armed military personnel and policemen have been consistently been used by the governor to intimidate and harass people who don’t agree with him.
“It is of concern that almost 20 years after military dictatorship, that a man with such a rabid ambition and arrogance of power can appropriate for himself the power to act outside of the law. “How can a governor, a democratically elected governor, demolish a house without notice simply for the fact that we have set up an office different from the one he had personalized himself as a so-called party man? “It is of concern to us that these actions by the governor had been done in the name of the President whom he believes he is his son that he so much loves. Governor Nasir Elrufai is an affliction to the people of Kaduna state and a curse to us.
“We will use this opportunity to call on the President to caution his beloved son, who has unleashed a reign of terror and have been held in the most despicable and irresponsible way. And it is a fact that if this crisis is not in any way nipped in the bud, it will, in every way, catapult and metamorphose into something very bigger,” he said. In his remarks, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary, condemned the action, saying democracy has no place for tyranny and impunity.
He said “If we decide to go on the part of democracy, we must accept some of the things that come with it, and one is the rule of law. If we have any kind of grievance, that grievance should be settled in the law court and not using force or the weight of our office.
“I believe this is one of the reasons why Nigerians opposed to issue of immunity, especially for chief executives. This is something we need to watch. As we head towards 2019, we must appeal to politicians not to overheat the system and then imperil our democracy.” Army denies demolition of politician property in Kaduna

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Army has denied any involvement in the demolition of Hunkuyi’s property. Spokesperson of 1 Division Nigeria Army, Col. Muhammad Dole, described the allegation as “untrue, baseless and unsubstantiated claim” aimed to malign officers and soldiers of the Division. He said: “The allegation and the attempt to drag the Nigerian Army into the issue of demolition is yet another baseless and unsubstantiated claim to malign the hardworking, loyal and professional officers and soldiers of 1 Division Nigerian Army and discredit them.
“Contrary to claims, the troops of 1 Division have not been involved in any illegal activity of either harassment of politicians or demolition of their properties in Kaduna and its environs. “Therefore this claim remains the highest mischief and misleading and it is viewed as another calculated attempt to distract our troops from performing their professional duties.
Therefore, the public should disregard such false allegation. “The troops of 1 Division Nigerian Army will continue to remain apolitical and non-partisan in the discharge of their constitutional roles. Presently our troops are dutifully engage in Exercise Ayem Akpatuma (Cat Race) in Niger and Kaduna states, combating Kidnappings, Cattle rustling, armed banditry and Terrorism.”
