i feel like i'm being sucked inevitably into a whaling hyperfixation. i'd been holding off while i was still reading moby dick but now i'm finished i desperately need to know everything there is to know about whales and whaling. going to seek out documentaries and maybe some books on the subiect lmao help me

#and i know that there is A Lot about whales and whaling in moby dick itself #but like. we must know so much more about whales now with modern science than they did then #and also from a historical perspective the idea of the whaling industry fascinates me #i grew up really near hull (which was a very important english whale port and is mentioned several times in moby dick)#and i've been working in dundee these past few months (the other most important whale port in britain)#so i feel like i should know more about the whaling industry and how it shaped these places than i do #RESEARCH TIME #🧃
