Art block's still really really bad so I'm not comfortable posting anything I've doodled recently. Instead I'm gonna ramble at whoever will listen about my witcher au headcanons. This is really long, and mostly just word vomit. Sorry not sorry.

Obviously, I've made Steve analogous with Geralt and Eddie Jaskier. I've seen a couple different interpretations on who would be who, but this is what feels most natural to me.

In my head Nancy is closest paralleled by Yen; they share quite a few narrative themes and are both women I am equal parts in love with and terrified of.

I think Robin most closely fits Triss, except in my version of the story she's the one turning down the prospect of a relationship with Steve. She'd also play a much larger role in his life than Triss did in the show (I've only played a little of the games and haven't read the books, so most of my knowledge is show-based).

And then obviously, because this is a Steddie (and ronance, I'm making it happen) au, it has to diverge from the witcher canon at some point because I don't want endgame stancy. Because I do love a healthy amount of angst though, I am going to keep mostly to canon up through the whole debacle on the mountain. Nancy finds out about the djinn wish and leaves Steve, Steve still gets (unrightfully) pissed at Eddie and leaves him there, everyone's in pain it's great.

But Steve and Nancy don't get back together after that. That's the end of their romantic involvement with each other.

Then the romance with Eddie kicks off after steve breaks the bard out of prison. In the time between the mountain and the prison break Steve's had all his realizations about Eddie (and he's a Witcher, so like it's all tinged with this feeling like he shouldn't get involved, would be better for eddie if he wasn't around, etc etc, which is why he stays away for so long). I'm not, however, making Eddie his bi awakening. Steve's not a teenager/young adult in this au. He's been around. He's known this about himself for a long time, but it's just as inconsequential to him as his attraction to women. It's a fact he knows, but doesn't really matter because he's not destined (in his eyes) for that kind of relationship.

I am torn on how to approach the Child Surprise. Part of me wants to scrap that arc completely and come up with something New.

If I do keep it, then I'm torn on Which kid from the show fits Ciri best. El seems like the obvious choice as far as narrative parallels go- powers she doesn't really understand, her whole life being suddenly upturned and there being insane forces at play that want her for some unknown reason- it's all there. But because we don't get any Steve/El interactions in st it's hard for me to fit her into the Geralt/Ciri dynamic.

Dynamic-wise I think the child should be Max. We see Steve take care of her in the show, and they bicker a little but she trusts him and (ultimately) listens to him. He feels responsible for her in a way that we don't see him feel towards El.

So I'm still undecided on that as of yet.

Robin and Nancy getting together is a lot more amorphous due to the minimal Yen/Triss interactions we get onscreen. But there's plenty of opportunity for that while they're both at Aretuza after Sodden. Nancy having lost her powers, Robin dealing with her own wounds that won't heal, tons of opportunity for bonding over shared trauma and finding a way Forward.

Does Nancy still get tangled up with the Deathless Mother trying to get her magic back? in this au with Robin there with her, would she help? Would this create a divide between Steve and Robin (for a time only, it would Resolve. I'm a stobin lover first and foremost)? So many unanswered questions.

13 - as mentioned in the tags, i, don't particularly care for SDR2... despite my appearances, and fixation on sai/ou, i lean towards GL and HL, and the most of SDR2 gives me for those is kuzu/peko, and... well, chapter 2...

and the anime, kind of obliterates the - themes, arc, intent behind chiaki. kodaka has hisssss waifu biases (this happens with haru, too) - and the cast's induction to the remnants is, weak, and i am a MASSIVE sucker for brainwashing, so me going 'meh' at it, says, a lot.

altogether it soured my... already soured feelings on SDR2. there is a lot of interesting concepts here, but, the only character i feel was executed well in the SDR2 portion of the anime is ryota. who is a new character. i love him and his relationship w twogami is amazing, etc. so, uh, despair arc. is bad and boring and was painful to sit thru.

future arc! i like it, honestly, even if it's another 'mrhghg this is cool in theory but done really poorly,' and honestly i really think. a lot of things introduced in dr 3 come to fruition in v3. i joke that, 'kodaka just wanted to work on v3, but they made him make an anime,' and i'm PARTIALLY kidding. and the best episode of dr 3 happens during this - altho it's not on the cast, either, it's the udg episode, and it blows the rest of the anime out of the water.

tl;dr Haha This Sucks, Man. this is an anime you can only watch w/ someone else, i feel, otherwise you'll go crazy. i like ryota and miaya a lot, i genuinely enjoy ruruka... in HPA aus, i make a point to, include ryota. my special hikikomori boy.

30 - mmmm not sure. i think, tojo - she shouldn't have survived into endgame, no, but one of the reasons i am so aggressively MEH abt her is that, she doesn't have time to develop or shine. she is, nothing, and the translation treats her motivation as a cheap joke. politicizes it. fun fact, the guy who handled the monokubz, and by extension gonta n angie, is the same guy. yeah, that guy. =_= responsible for a lot of the very shitty decisions in the localization. if SC thinks it's ok to make her primary motivation as a joke, why should i take her seriously?

i think she should've survived until ch3, to have some time to flesh things out. she shouldve been a bit undecided abt, you know, betraying her classmates. she should've become a temp antagonist, especially since she tries to set ouma up as untrustworthy and thus unreliable for his testimony in the trial - and she is very, very angry at sai, and gaslights him to hell and back. and it's EFFECTIVE. w/o momo, sai would've crumbled. give me, more of that, dammit!!! GOD!!! but no, so i am just.. ugh... tojo, right. i always forget abt her while doing cast stuff.

hoshi, i think, is another obvious 'I WANT HIM TO LIVEEEEEEEEEEE' but i don't know how well that would've worked with the ult. ending and intent of v3.

uh... mmm... thh, i don't really know... haha. i actually quite like, hifumi, but he was nevverrr everrr gonna survive. too bad...? some of the joke characters im like. Wait, I enjoy them, give me more, and at least hagakure survives!!! i'm happy abt that!!!

31 - unpopular opinion incoming, but i don't think any of the survivors were 'undeserved' - while i quite... dislike SDR2's cast... they made the right choice of who got out of the game alive. i wouldn't change any of them there.

for THH, i, mmm... i never quite 'clicked' with togami. he's fine... i suppose... but i don't find him and his attitude quite as compelling as ouma. nor komaeda's, who i am so, 'I AM SO OVER THIS GUY, EVERYONE STOP FUCKING TALKING ABT KOM!!!' about, lol. maybe he's more basic bc thh is, at its core, a very basic story... it was the first, and in a game series that afaik was not Planned to have sequels etc.

v3 literally all of them deserved to survive. i like each and every one of them. i am glad that yumeno didn't have, the pitfall of, 'suffers massively but grows bc of x's characters death, only to die later,' like ishi and hiyoko did. she's lovely, i really do think she is.

haru... haha, i... do like her... totally not in the way kodaka intended, but i was like. OHHH OK HARU IS WAY MORE COMPELLING when i realized that she and angie are narrative foils. that opened my eyes to her character - i appreciate her a lot more now, and the line abt saihara realizing 'do you want to die' always being a joke made me smile. i also think fandom shows her a LOT more aggro than she is - her first, chokehold, was instinctual fear. "everyone is scared of her," once they know her talent, as she says. and in a death game... ofc her first reaction would be of panic... and the second - ffs, ouma just threatened them with a bomb! this girl does not hate ouma. she is the second to last, second to kiibo (WHO, IS A STANDIN FOR THE AUDIENCE, SO LIKE-) to finally be Done with ouma's bullshit. she loses her cool when ouma injures momota for the 2nd time. ETC ETC. and, she has to be deliberately manipulated, by shirogane to actually kill ouma. she does not for real hate this guy, she would not bully him in school, or try and get saihara to break up w/ him. lol

while kodaka's waifuism really shines thru her (he got angry that she wasnt ranked high in popularity, if you didnt know...) i think there's a lot to love abt her, even if it takes a bit to think abt. the things i appreciate abt her probably don't appeal to others. so, yeah!!! i like that she survived!!! i'm glad that she got to - live, and not as the ult survivor for 54... that she steps into the world with sai and yumeno. she is friends with saihara on her own, i'm glad that they have e/o, after everyone else... and that yumeno isn't alone, herself.

saihara deserved to survive end of story like beyond '(real) protag plot armor' - which ALSO isn't true, kiibo is the FOR REAL protag in the eyes of the meta audience - his arc is very grueling and long. it may not be.... that super in depth, but he is not this emo depressed boy who listens to MCR, either. he has a lot of trauma prior to the game - ppl don't talk abt his scopophobia often enough, and the 'eyes on him,' and the - the perjury, effect, has a bunch of eyes, investigating, judging you... while it is the same for aka - come on. it is very clearly intended to show sai's fear of the truth and of lies. he goes thru a lot of twists n turns, and it would've, killed me if he died... or, at least, if he died and the others had survived. either all of them die, or he has friends... which he does...!! altho the epilogue was SUPER CONTROVERSIAL in house, lol.

audrey howard.    twenty nine years old.   only child ,   but has a very large extended family and relatively successful cousins to live up to.   has a tense relationship with her parents that is getting better.   struggles with substance abuse and eventually commits to getting clean after many failed attempts.   she meets chris while waitressing an event for the abby foundation.   the relationship starts off from a very honest ,   vulnerable place ,   but it doesn’t stay that way.    they’re not as good for each other as they thought.   they can never seem to be on the same page.    details under the cut. 

chris is honest with audrey about his drinking problem ,    and a month later ,    she’s honest with him about her drug habit.     it makes her want to quit using ,    this thing that they have ,    his honesty ,    his discipline.    and she does quit ,   for a while.    but it’s not that easy.    he tries to help her ,    all the while telling her that he can’t ,    not in the way that she really needs ,    so she tells him that he doesn’t have to.    she’s got it under control.    she won’t let something like that ruin this.    she promises. 

she helps him open up about a lot of things that she can tell he’s never talked to anyone before ,    not like this ,   and he presents her with challenges that no one else ever thought she could rise to.   it’s amazing how much he believed in her.    she doesn’t believe it ,   most of the time ,    and it makes her insecure.    but god ,   she wants to.    

he convinces her go back to school.    she studies for exams on one side of the bed while he writes emails on the other ,    and he quizzes her when she asks.    she thinks he likes to.   he works a lot ,   more than she thinks he even has to ,    and she hates that ,    but she likes the way he makes up all those missed dinner dates to her.    he’s more thoughtful than he pretends to be.    she likes being able to make him sway with her in the kitchen to her carole king cd.     she likes it when she can give him little pep talks to brave his testosterone shots every week ,    and being able to make him laugh.   especially after he says ,   my mother always told me the secret was never to settle for someone who can’t make you laugh.

audrey thinks they’ll be getting married ,   soon.    it’s only been a little over a year ,    but what a year it’s been.   after hale’s final term ,    she wants them to get a brownstone in new york ,    because chris loves new york ,    and she loves the idea of sneaking lipstick stains onto his collar before they head off to take the kids to school together.    which ,    they’ll have two of.    a boy and a girl ,   in that order.    she wants a nine to five.   something reliable ,    something she’s good at ,    something she never could’ve had until chris stepped into her life and everything became so perfectly clear.    so picturesque. 

she wants new york.    she wants that brownstone.    but chris is stubborn ,   and uncomfortable with how quickly things are moving ,   sometimes ,    and how he’s somehow always on a pedestal but always doing something wrong.    and suddenly she’s feels trapped at an impasse with a man who won’t even say the words i love you every time she knows he wants to.   

she messes up.   she relapses ,    and it’s not the first time she’s done that since she promised she’d stop ,    but it’s the first time she has sex with her dealer ,   daniel ,    since chris admitted that he hadn’t slept with anyone else since they met.    there’s a voicemail on her phone that she doesn’t see.   chris comes home from the campaign trail a day earlier than he said he would ,    and she’s never seen him look so devastated when he opens the bedroom door.    she’s worried he broke his hand across daniel’s face ,    but he won’t let her look at it ,   he won’t let her touch him ,    but he won’t even look at her.   he won’t come home from the office.   the voicemail from him ,    when she listens to it later ,    says:   wish you’d talk to me.    we’re no good when we get like this ,    when you don’t talk to me.    i don’t know if you’re mad at me or mad at yourself ,    or whatever.    but i’m on my way home now ,    so if it’s something i did ,   then we can figure it out when i get there ,    okay?   i love you.   i’ll see you when i get home.

it doesn’t occur to her how badly she messed up until she wakes up and chris is leaning over her on daniel’s couch and she doesn’t know what day it is  (   hi ,   baby.    she says.   he doesn’t look happy to see her.   she’s not happy that he sees her like this.    they haven’t been happy in a while.    can we go home ,   now ?    i wanna go home.   )     because apparently ,    she’s moving out.    there’s an apartment he has set up for her.    first and last months paid.   security deposit ,    too.   better than the place she was living before she moved in with him ,    all she has to do is sign the paperwork.    there’s a clinic she can go to ,    he says ,    to get the kind of help that he said he couldn’t give her ,   the kind of help he told her she needed when he found out about her problem.     he won’t force her to go ,    though.    he won’t be able to because he won’t be there.    he doesn’t want to see her anymore ,   ever again.    

she puts up a fight.     she’s talked him down from this sort of thing before and if there was ever a time to try ,    it’s right now.    but he’s made up his mind.    he must think he’s too good for her ,    now ,    or something.     she says some things she shouldn’t have ,   but to be fair ,   so does he ,    and when she hit him in the face she really didn’t mean it.    maybe they could’ve sorted this out if she hadn’t hit him.   she’ll never know.    she was just done letting him make her feel bad for the way she’s forced to act just to get something from of him.    the neighbors are watching in the hallway as she kicks and punches at the front door after he slammed it in her face.    she’s tired of everyone leaving her ,   or throwing her away.    she never thought chris would do that even though he never said that he wouldn’t ,    not in those exact words.  audrey doesn’t move into the apartment he arranged for her.    she doesn’t even pick up the keys.    she tries to call him ,    but he won’t pick up the phone.   she tries to see him at his place ,    but he’s changed the locks.    the last time they ever speak a word to each other ,    he still won’t look at her directly in the eye.   she must have hurt him really bad.   no ,    she can tell she did ,    the bruise was still there.    it’s outside the white house where he threatens her with a restraining order.

she moves back in with her parents ,    a half hour out of the city ,    instead.    they’re disappointed.    they liked chris ,    even with him being the godless democrat that he was.    she’s honest with them for the first time in almost a decade ,    and so they’re disappointed in her ,   too.    then they’re there for her when she decides maybe she’ll go to that clinic after all.    it helps a lot more than she thought it would ,    and it’s hard to admit that.   it’s hard to admit to a lot of things to herself ,    but she does.    not immediately.     over time.   she does better in group therapy than she does in the one on one sessions ,    but her counselor isn’t a bad person ,   and by the time she’s out of the clinic she thinks she might want to be a counselor herself.    

it keeps her busy ,   and it keeps her straight ,    the work does.    sobriety sticks because this time she’s doing it for herself ,    so that she can help other people do it too ,    and she’s better at it than she ever thought she would be.     she’s sad that she couldn’t do it for her parents ,    or for chris ,    or for the ones that came before him ,    but she’s happy to be able to do it at all. 

she wants to tell him that when she notices him in a restaurant in columbia heights ,    three years since she got sober.   she should ,   she thinks ,    because he deserves to know that she got there and that he helped her do that and that she’s sorry ,    even if he wouldn’t be comfortable with her saying that out loud.    but he doesn’t see her across the room ,    and he doesn’t want to ,    and she respects that.     she knows how much he loves his grudges.   besides.    he’s with someone ,    and he looks happy ,   too.

you might have covered this before but is our dear y/n going to have some sort of romantic/sexual relationship with all of them at some point or another or are there any members who might be platonic the entire series? Wondering cause in earlier chapters when she first got found out and yunho patched her up and was like... being a guide to her basically and at least one time pervy? I was like damn can't wait for his time to shine 😌 and then YEOSANG! before that first mission where he's like yeah so this bitch not an elitist 😒 I was also really excited for THAT relationship to develop (still am because e2l yum) but THEN I REALIZED IT MIGHT NOT BE POLY but just cause it might not be poly doesn't mean they might not all have something a little more than platonic for a time, at various times right 🧐 and all of this is of course maybe since i think you're still undecided on endgame if i remember correctly??? Also NOBODY EVER ENTERTAINS THE IDEA OF Y/N AND JONGHO? is there a secret y/n/jongho platonic forever agenda I do not know about 😔

Also I'm really enjoying all the Hoshi related things I'm seeing here 😳 he's one of my ults and I've been hyperfocusing on him til I can deal with other stuff the past almost two weeks

that! my dear rolypoly! is unknown even to me at the moment! i have a rough idea of where relationships are headed but have not detailed whether those will be solely platonic, romantic, or sexual yet as it’s largely dependent on how im feeling and what i write when i actually sit down to write the chapters ljfdlksjdlk so! could have all romantic, could have some sexual, could be platonic in some cases, we simply do not know quite yet. yes yunho has been a bit ~flirty~ and ~pervy~ but that’s part of who he is as a character not just a targeted at y/n specifically, and with yeosang, that will actually be revisited in the future but i can confirm that it will yes be poly that is where i’m at rn, but that doesn’t necessarily mean ot8, it could be any combination of pairings ! i am still largely undecided on endgame but we have 10 acts ahead of us before we even reach endgame so don’t worry there is more than plenty of time to explore more and delve deeper. i haven’t necessarily slapped a ‘platonic-only’ label on y/n and jongho’s relationship, that’s pretty much down to reader interpretation but i’ve left it rather open and i try not to use any terms like brother/sister to define relationships JUST in case i decide to add romantic aspects to those relationships later heh so no secret platonic forever agenda <3
