Out of sheer curiosity, I rewatched the first episode of the L Word not long ago. I was horrified and decided I didn't need to rewatch the whole series. But a super cut of just Sharmen? I would watch that. I also love the fun antics of Alice and Dana. Everything else.... I'll just say I'm glad we have better stories, happier endings, and more accurate representation in queer content now.
Oh, I am right there with you. The full series was available on iTunes for cheap a while back, so I bought it to show my wife--who had never heard of it--and I think we made it through like. Three episodes. It's rough. And frankly, I remember finding a lot of it pretty embarrassing when I watched it for the first time at like 18. We have come a loooong way in queer media.
And yet. The chemistry between Shane and Carmen. Hallelujah. They're forever in my heart.
#ask#i recognize how much that show gave to us in pushing rep along#but i also recognize how brutal and BAD it was in so many ways (thinking first of the trans storylines but also like.#(not kind to bi folks AT ALL)#i haven't bothered watching the new version but i do hope they improved a lot of that stuff#and i'm so so glad we've largely moved away from the 'every lesbian can and will cheat constantly' energy in other media#being a gay kid whose main tv rep was willow and tara on buffy and then all of the drama of the l word#i was...worried about my dating prospects to say the least
