Hello!! I saw your post about your T injection, and I know that it was probably just supposed to be a silly little diary post, but I was kind of curious about how the whole process works? Like, actually giving yourself the shot? Idk you don't have to answer, I'm just planning on starting T as soon as I move out, so I was curious.

Oh totally! Here's a little step-by-step for sub-Q testosterone injections with a few images, I hope that it helps!

Before you start, make sure that you have everything you need! The things that you need to have are your prescription, a syringe, an injection needle, an alcohol prep pad, and a sharps disposal container. (Everything except maybe the sharps bin and prep pads will be provided by your prescriber/pharmacy)

Wash your hands!!!

Assemble the syringe and needle

Remove the cap from the top of the vial and push the needle into the vial. Make sure that the plunger is pulled all of the way out before you put it in, so that you don't create a vacuum when you start pulling the liquid.

Push the plunger all of the way down, and start drawing up the medication. With T, you have to do it super slowly because it's in a carrier oil that's pretty thick. Fill it up past the mark (your prescriber will tell you what your dose is), and then depress it again until you're at your dose mark. (Just to make sure that you don't have any air bubbles)

Use the prep pad to sterilize your injection site. For sub-Q injections, that means either on the stomach or outer thighs. (You'll also want to rotate your injection site weekly)

Push the needle all of the way in, and slowly depress the plunger until all of the fluid is gone.

Remove the needle and put the entire syringe in your sharps bin IMMEDIATELY. Everything else (including the vial) goes in the regular trash.

Put a bandage/gauze on the injection site if it's bleeding. Also be aware that seeing a little bit of the T liquid leaking out is normal and fine, a drop or two isn't going to impact the effects of the hormone.
