BullPerks
BullPerks - The fairest and most community dedicated decentralized VC and multi chain launchpad.
Tumblr media
#bullperks #bsc #crypto
I'm Jadon Sancho here will explain more about the project Bullperks
About BullPerks
The Ultimate and most fair platform for retail buyers to get access to private sale allocations to the most sought after crypto projects just like crypto funds do
Who is behind this?
The BullPerks team and advisors have been around for a while and have over 20 years of combined crypto experience. Each member has managed tons of projects in the crypto space.
A mix of talented individuals at the top of their fields is here to build a unique skill set to have a fun and successful journey from crypto start-up ideation to execution.
What's unique about Bullperks?
The majority of decentralized VCs and launchpads have become private member clubs after their token price increased. With a set tier system based on the token amount you hold, only early investors have access to those tiers and share in the deals.
BullPerks, with its adaptive tier system, is the fairest and most community-dedicated platform giving access to early-stage deals.
BullPerks — The All-Inclusive Decentralized VC That Can’t be Tamed
Tumblr media
As a proud crypto bull, you know this is an exciting time to invest in a wide range of cutting-edge blockchain technologies that show great potential to revolutionize an industry or service. However, having access to those groundfloor investments with typical VCs presents its challenges because of the exclusivity that comes with getting in early. This results in missed opportunities and keeps you on the sidelines as great projects turn into great companies.
At BullPerks we intend to disrupt this pattern and provide stakeholders with even modest starting capital the chance to buy into projects they feel align with their vision of a healthy crypto/blockchain portfolio.
The Team Behind the Bull
The experts that make up our BullPerks team are entrepreneurs, advisors, investors, marketing professionals, and VC fundraisers. We are at the top of our respective fields with a long list of projects to their credit and over two decades of experience in the crypto space. The wealth of knowledge our team possesses allows for us to present you with projects that will bring new blockchain technology to the forefront of the business world.
Where To Get Started
Investors are encouraged to contact BullPerks through our website info page and join our Telegram group. It’s important to purchase BLP tokens and establish which allocation tier you fall into. This will also allow you to see which projects are available to you.
We also understand that from time to time, you may come across a project that does not resonate with you; and this leads to one of the many “perks’’ of joining Bullperks. Your investment is your choice, which means you have the freedom to buy into or pass on any project you see fit. You simply select the “pass” option on the BullPerks platform and you will maintain your place in the queue.
Support For Your Project
As a founder of a project, the BullPerks team will pool their extensive experience and resources to help raise funds, develop an effective marketing strategy, and advise you on a wide range of procedures and opportunities that may include potential partnerships with other successful projects.
What Sets Bullperks Apart?
BullPerks acts as a VC/fund that offers traders access to seed and private rounds which are otherwise known as “exclusive” allocations. It is well known that to partake in these types of investments, an individual or organization must have access to a high-profile network and must also provide very large sums of capital. Being able to participate in these types of exclusive sales is one of the most coveted opportunities in the crypto space and something typically far out of reach for the average joe.
Experience and Focus That Equals
The various skill sets of our team of crypto and blockchain experts help every project we bring to market reach its full potential. As a trader or project founder, you will have the support you need as you join a community of like-minded people with years of experience and a proven track record of success. Contact us at BullPerks today to get more information on how you can get started on our platform.

Best Content Writing Course in Lucknow
Before, I talk about the best content writing course in Lucknow, let me introduce myself.
About Me
I fell deeply in love with writing since I had finished my graduation, but before that, I couldn’t realize the significance of good writing. Initially, my perception of writing was bewildered. I thought good writing ability can’t be attained, it is a natural ability awarded to the chosen ones. I wouldn’t be so wrong until I learned the content writing skill. Fortunately, I got the chance to learn from a perfectionist who familiarized me with the craft of good writing.
A Few Words about My City Lucknow
I spent most of my childhood studying and learning in my hometown, Lucknow. It used to be a very different place unlike it is today. Previously, it seemed almost like a suburban small town where most of the people worked in the government sector. It molds our thinking towards conventional methods of learning and earning. We were rather philistine compared to the awareness of the other developed cities of India. The part of the city where I fostered is miles away from the national capital but years away in terms of sophistication.
Now, our city is transforming. Lucknow has a flourishing history of art and literature. It nurtured many renowned poets and writers in the past. We are embracing changes and building a modern city orchestrated with the old traditions.
Knowing content writing
Content writing is beyond good writing, it empowers you to think, research, and create high-quality, meaningful content to aware, educate and entertain readers. It is a driving force behind all successful marketing campaigns. It offers the opportunity to the business to connect and grow the prospective customer base. Therefore, quality content writing is packed with utility and brimming with inspiration. Quality content writing has relentless empathy towards their audience.
Benefits of content creation career
Content writing is a lucrative career. The foremost benefit of a writing career: you can earn for doing something you cherish. The potential market for good content writers is enormous, and opportunities are open around the globe, from blogging to publishing. The requirement of good content writing is not restricted. They have the privilege to choose for round the clock and freelance assignments.
Moreover, content writing provides a chance to work wherever you desire and write whatever you like. Therefore, a content writing career increases your confidence, fuels your creativity, and makes your voice heard. It provides tremendous personal gratification that comes with both fame and fortune.
How to Become a Content Writer?
If you know the art of expressing thoughts, congratulations, you can be a good content writer. Content writing is a skill-based career. Therefore, no specific degree is required to grow as a content writer. However, owing a degree in literature, arts, journalism, psychology even in science would be the icing on the cake. Your familiarity with the topic and drafting ability decides the growth of your content writing career. Hence, if your writing is compelling and content is relevant for readers, you have a good content writing career ahead of you.
However, proper guidance from experts can instantly launch a career in content writing. Numerous online and offline courses are available that can improve your writing skills. Nonetheless, few of these courses are certified by the government. If you are planning to work for some content industry or start your business, a certificate issued by a reliable authority increases the visibility and credibility of your craft. Online content writing courses also help experienced writers, acquiring additional skills like editing, recognizing, drafting, removing, and refining the ambiguity from the content. Therefore, it proves helpful for all kinds of genres of writers.
Watch the following video to know exact step-by-step process to become a content writer.
Why ECT’s Course is the Best Content Writing Course in Lucknow?
Today, with emerging culture and education, Lucknow is firmly looking to a promising future. This contemporary city is moving forward along with the magnificent legacy of the past. Students are exploring the novel styles of learning and employment. Hence, enthusiastically embracing the online methods of improving technical skills.
Both, fresh graduates and nonconventional learners, are choosing online learning courses. After the devastating pandemic, people of tier two and three cities recognize the significance of additional skills and learning in a virtual environment. Thus, good content writing courses have tremendous potential for delivering better career options for distance learners.
Things are changing now; I’m tempted to mention that the majority of online students in our city are in between 40-60 years of age. Most of them are retired and housemakers, seeking online content writing courses to utilize their unoccupied time. Therefore, they appreciate online content writing courses and found it flexible to connect the class. They responded, “online content writing empowers them to pen down their life experiences and stories without facing the awkwardness of attending an offline class with teenagers”.
I think online content writing has a remarkable capacity to transform the personality. Accessibility to the internet made it possible to access anything from your smart device. However, the internet is flooded with lucrative success and money-making stories, but it’s all up to you, knowing your requirements and budget before making any choice. It is quite hard to put in long hours and money without ensuring returns.
ECT Content Writing Course
If you are an aspiring writer, receiving training from a recognized institute can help you grab a project. ECT, a renowned content writing institute authorized by the government of India. It has been teaching the effective ways to feed the best content writing along with in-hand experience of varied forms of writing such as technical writing, copywriting, article writing, medical writing, etc. Moreover, it empowers students to thrive in stiff competition.
ECT offers both online and offline classes, but maximum benefits can be reaped from online training. ECT online content writing classes are accessible, affordable, and flexible. It is an advantage for learners of different geographic locations to save money and commuting time. Therefore, I would recommend an online content writing course for people living in different towns like me.
Why I chose ECT
While exploring a good medical writing course, I discovered ECT, a content writing institute. Since I was oblivious of any form of writing and needed to start from the essentials. I was perplexed in the beginning until I attended the demo class of ECT. It was triggering for me to learn from the expert. Fortunately, I got familiar with all forms of writing including medical writing. Good writing is a culmination of habit, knowledge, and rules, and everyone is capable of producing good content writing. Hence, I chose what I found beneficial to me. Indeed, it taught me to learn beyond books.
The most valuable lesson that I learned in ECT was good writing is like mathematics, either you know it or don’t know it. But, both crafts can be earned by practice and guidance. Therefore, the difference between a good writer and a bad writer is hard work and proper guidance.
Before enrolling, you may request a free demo class.

Writer’s Bio
I spent plenty of my time in classrooms and laboratories. I learned the craft of writing from the expert and started freelancing for an enormous boon to my growth. I got the opportunity of working on a variety of writing projects. I managed to refine my writing abilities beyond the fundamental knowledge. Currently, I am involved in publishing book chapters, research articles, and blogs with credits that go to my name. The essential growth that I have accomplished so far solely attribute to freelance writing projects offered by ECT.

Private Island [location redacted] Fiji, South Pacific 18 August 211
Relena stood before the mirror as her mother secured the string of pearls around her neck.
As Mareen stepped away with an appreciative hum, Relena took a moment to study her reflection. Her honey blond hair had been twisted into soft curls and then pinned up to prevent the sea breeze catching them. Her dress was short and only came to her knees, layered with tulle and lace. Her shoes were simple but stylish, fitting for their private event and a day at the beach. She smiled and turned to face her entourage, placing her hands on her hips and striking a pose. “What do you think?”
Amidst the unanimous approval, there was a knock at the door.  “Come in,” Relena answered, smoothing her hands down the dress.
At the entreaty, Heero stepped into the room but stopped short, eyes wide at the sight of her. “Wow,” he managed, but didn’t move from where he stood.
“Come in, Heero,” Mareen told him, and Heero—seemingly embarrassed, judging by the pinched look on his face—quickly shut the door as instructed.
He took a few hesitant steps forward and opened his mouth to say something...but nothing came and so he snapped it shut once more. Relena watched the muscles in his jaw twitch a moment longer before she closed the distance that separated them. Only then did she register the glass bottle clutched in one of his hands. She smiled at it and took his free hand in hers.
“You’re beautiful,” he said, voice soft, almost reverent.
Relena bit her lip and smiled as she felt her cheeks start to burn. “Thank you,” she said and gave his hand a squeeze.
They studied each other for a time, both of them wound up with emotions they couldn’t name. But then Heero took a shuddering breath and seemed to gather his composure once more. “For you,” he said, passing her the bottle.
Relena took it with a soft laugh and opened it, unfurling the message.
---
Ich liebe dich

She read the words [1] and felt herself tearing up. Sniffling, she crossed to a nearby chair and sat down, taking several deep breaths amidst the concerned queries from her friends and family around her. They were getting married. He loved her. He loved her and they were getting married...today.  Relena looked up to find Heero’s blue eyes looking a bit tearful as well. “I love him,” she told him, “so much.”
Heero replied, “I know. So does he.”
Relena nodded and closed her eyes, taking several deep breaths to calm herself while the others waited quietly. She was thankful for it. She didn’t think she would be able to keep herself together if they had swarmed her with their love and assurances. Taking a deep breath, she dabbed carefully at her eyes and twisted open the pen. “Sally, Heero.  I’m going to need help with the reply.”
*****
Wufei glanced up as the door to their de facto dressing room opened and Heero entered, shutting it behind him and holding the glass bottle aloft. “You were gone longer than I thought you’d be. Sorry about that.”
“No, that was on me,” Heero said, shaking his head. “Mostly.”
“‘Mostly?’” Wufei asked, an eyebrow quirking at his runner as he approached.
Heero gave him a secretive smile as he passed Wufei the bottle. “You’ll see soon enough.”
Wufei watched him with wary eyes as Heero turned away and walked across the room. He took a seat near Trowa who was going over the final technical checks of his camera while Quatre hovered at his shoulder watching the process unfold.
Left to his own devices for a time, Wufei uncorked the bottle and unspooled the note. Relena had responded to his earlier sentiment in kind. [2]
---
我爱你

They were the tentative strokes of a novice and yet Wufei couldn’t tear his eyes away, warmth spreading through his chest and into his cheeks.  She loves me, he thought, overcome.
From behind, thin arms wrapped around his waist and a pointed chin rested on his shoulder. Wufei’s grin widened.  “Hey.”
“Hey,” Duo echoed, clearly reading the note too.
“She writes like you,” Wufei teased, trying to stave off the tears that pricked at the back of his eyes.
Duo snorted.  “No awards for penmanship,” he said, giving Wufei a squeeze before withdrawing.
*****
The group had assembled on the first floor balcony, which overlooked the plantation gardens below. Chairs had been brought outside from the house and adorned with flowers from the landscape that surrounded them, lined up in short rows to form a makeshift aisle that led to the porch railing. The wedding party had all foregone color-coded attire, but Wufei’s entourage had dressed sharply in vests and slacks all the same.
At the end of the short aisle that connected the house to the bannister, Wufei fidgeted and Duo smirked from where he stood beside him. The moment before the moment of truth was always infinitely more painful. And Wufei was never really one for patience.
Duo let his eyes wander to the other guests while seconds ticked by. Trowa flitted about, snapping photos while Quatre had tucked himself in securely at Heero’s side. Hilde meanwhile was chatting amicably with Sally and Une. Mareen and Noin were presumably just inside with the bride. He smiled again and tightened his grip on the materials in his arms as a stray breeze swept across the balcony.
As it died down once more, the double doors that led back into the house opened and Relena stepped outside into the warm afternoon sun. Dress soft and delicate, smile wide, she was a sight to see. To his left, Wufei expelled a shuddering breath and Duo chanced a glance his way. The man was starstruck, cheeks flushed and eyes tearful and Relena approached down the aisle, a small bouquet of flowers clutched in her hands.  She had eyes only for her fiance. Duo grinned.  “Hold it together,” he hissed at Wufei, whose only visible reaction was to snap his mouth shut.
A small eternity swept up the aisle with Relena as she walked, and yet time seemed to rush up to them like a tidal surge. What had been ‘future’ was suddenly ‘now’ and as Wufei took Relena’s hand in his, bringing her up beside him, Duo swallowed down the familiar taste of panic.
Instead, he grinned through it and snuffed it out before it could take him.  He smiled wide and welcoming as the two lovebirds struggled to remember that there was in fact a ceremony to be had. Duo took that as his cue to begin.  “I don’t think I have to tell anyone why we’re here today, so we’ll skip that part of this morning’s daily briefing if that’s alright with you.”  The comment earned knowing chuckles from the guests and good natured eye rolls from the couple before him.
“I will say, however, that out of everyone here to share today with you, I’m the lucky one who actually gets to marry you. That’s a high honor coming from you both—one I didn’t anticipate—so thank you, for your trust.
“Thank you also for adding a new qualification to my resume, since I did have to get certified for this in order for it to be legal under ESUN law, after all. I took this task very seriously. I even studied! I studied harder for this than I think I ever have before,” he said and finally righted the materials he had till now clutched to his chest, revealing a stack of books. They were dog-eared with colored page markers sticking out in every conceivable direction, and included a menagerie of materials. Half a dozen religious texts intermingled with the likes of Sun Tzu, Karl Marx, and Plato.
Incredulous laughter at the collection burst first between the couple and then outward across the guests to others. As their mirth simmered down once more, Duo said in all seriousness, “But when have any of us ever played by the book?”  In the expectant silence that followed his question, he looked first at Relena, then at Wufei….and after a beat, chucked the books over his shoulder and the balcony railing behind him to fall with much commotion into the underbrush below.
Dusting his hands off, he settled his gaze once again at the couple before him. “So here’s the real deal…”
*****
“That was an excellent speech. I thought for sure Wufei would cry before he even got to his vows,” Sally said, sipping champagne as she watched the newlyweds slow dance on the stone patio in the garden, lost in their own world.
“It was an excellent speech,” Mareen agreed. She turned to Heero then and gently probed. “Relena tells me you’re a writer.  So...be honest.  How much of the ceremony was Duo and how much did you help with?”
Heero shook his head. “That was all Duo.”  He took a sip of his own drink and added, “He wrote four different versions. Ended up delivering a fifth.” He squinted into the empty space before him, thinking. “I’m beginning to wonder why his creative process requires such levels of improvisation.”
Trowa chuckled where he loitered nearby. “Don’t know what you need till you get there,” he answered, hefting his camera and aiming it in their direction. “Smile you three. But not in a fake way,” he instructed, snapping the shutter closed a second later.
*****
“I wasn’t sure if you’d make it,” Quatre said as he took a seat on one of the garden benches next to Duo.
Duo huffed a dry laugh. “I could say the same about you,” he said, throwing back the rest of the contents of his glass before leveling Quatre with a face that spoke to his concern. “You looked a little peaked earlier. You alright?”
Quatre nodded with a sigh. “Yes, I’m fine. It’s just…” He waved his hand before him, non-committal and aimless.
Duo watched the gesture for a bit before suggesting, “The miasma?”
When Quatre looked his way again, he found Duo biting his lip between his teeth in a poor attempt not to laugh.  Quatre smirked. “Yes, let’s go with that.”  This did earn him a laugh from Duo and he felt the man’s tension subside somewhat. Quatre smiled.
*****
Noin stared at her reflection in the bathroom mirror and sighed, her cheeks puffing out as she did so. She had fled back into the house when she felt the tears coming and was thankful for the reprieve. And angry that she had cried at all. The one saving grace was that the light outside had finally faded with sunset and was now too dim for any of the guests to notice.
She would not let them know. This was their day and she wouldn’t allow herself to be the source of bitterness, especially not when there was nothing any of them could do.
Noin sighed again, her red eyes staring back at her through the mirror. She wouldn’t let them know how much it hurt...to not have a happily ever after of her own.
*****
Merriment made the hours bleed lazily into the evening, the wedding party surrounded by laughter and music. Food and drink and good company. But after a time the furtive glances Relena had shared with her husband were no longer scratching the growing itch.  Taking his hand in hers, she passed a look to her mother—who only smirked in acknowledgement—and fled their reception for a more...personal celebration.
She pointedly ignored the cat calls that followed at their heels and whisked her husband off to their bedroom.
[1] Ich liebe dich, “I love you” in German. In LAM!verse, Sanq speaks a German dialect.

hi kween, i’m new to writeblr and like a sucky ass person, could you maybe recommend some writeblrs for me to follow? exuding my same unpredictable and slightly unhinged personality? (1/2)
and also how do taglists work? HOW DOES THE COMMUNITY OF WRITEBLR WORK? this is brand new information. I’m sorry if this causes any stress so feel free to ignore! (2/2)
hey! welcome to writeblr, that's a pretty strong opening lmao
i'll try to split this ask into parts -
1. WRITEBLRS TO FOLLOW
i mean, everyone is v talented in their own way, and beyond "unpredictable and unhinged" i'm hardly certain what you're looking for, but if you're asking for people that i personally vibe with -
@at-lxs - rarely posts her own writing, but remains one of my most treasured mutuals - the day i get her to put content on her blog, it's over for y'all. she's so fucking funny and sharp, and either way, her tags are also always worth a visit bc her eye for detail & analysis on writing will leave you shaking
@holotones - woohoo fucked up, deliciously good writing time!! if you like unhealthy relationships, body horror, and cowboys, i legit can't recommend haeji's blog enough. they write in basically every genre known to man, which is also a huge plus - if for some reason you don't love everything they post, you are guaranteed to find at least one thing you do
@llesbianwrites - HER WRITING KNOCKS ME OFF MY FEET EVERY TIME I SEE IT AND THAT'S THAT ON THAT. i still get breathless thinking about hungry ghosts, and i want peter's intro inscribed on my gravestone. read it or/and perish
@carumens - one of the first writeblrs i followed when i joined - she's so open and welcoming, it almost helps distract from how much my heart aches whenever i think of sunflowers at night :')
@aelenko - abby's blog features one of the only non-fantasy wips on this list, since it's not smth i typically care for - which should alone be testament to how crazy talented abby is to make me care about hers. she's also got new fantasy & dark academia wips that make my heart go TWICE as wild because,,, ohhhh my godddddd
@emdrabbles - worldbuilding. worldbuilding everywhere. also six of crows content, which frankly i don't think the world can ever have enough of. also also guaranteed to be the coolest person you'll ever meet, but also a certified bully of taller people (everyone) so look out for that 😔
@viviuyn - her writing has so much going on, how can you NOT be captivated? i don't even like vampires technically & i still can't stop thinking about that excerpt she posted about the man who loves his vampire gf a little too much :'>
@acrimoneous - two words: CODENAME HAMLET. bonus words: wip of the century. also leaves literally the nicest comments, i get a little emotional whenever i see them
@zuiderhaaks - i didn't think it was possible to go feral go stupid over every single thing a person posts, but eva somehow proves me wrong each time. if you like themes of divinity, with a nice heaping of Oh God Oh Fuck Am I Crying Right Now, can't recommend high enough tbh
2. TAG LISTS
a tag list is a list of people who've asked to be tagged whenever you upload content related to your wip! so like, let's say you have my wip, requiem. someone asking me to join the tag list means that, when i post writing on requiem, i'll tag them in it - whether in the form of a self rb (my preferred method), under a 'read more', in the comments, etc. it helps to keep track of the people who have asked on a notes doc, i've found, or else it just gets messy - esp if you have multiple wips, but not people interested in following each and every one
3. HOW DOES WRITEBLR WORK
kind of like how you'd think, i reckon! you post your writing in whatever form you please and roll from there.
some general tips i can give you on it though include -
make an intro post detailing who you are, what genres you like, what you're hoping to post/follow, your interests, etc. this'll help you find other people in the community
use tags like "writeblr", "writers on tumblr", "original writing" and "wip introduction" (for when you first post your projects)
don't stress over number of notes, they'll come come to you. but also lower your expectations like a Lot in regard to them if that's smth you care about. 20 notes is considered 👌👌
and legit don't stress or put yourself down. we are all just sitting here man

Fanfiction Writer Bingo
Tagged by @academicgangster. Thank you. ❤
I did not make bingo. Oh well.
Tumblr media
Fandoms I write for: Galileo, Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Selfie, by virtue of having been my latest works. All other fandoms I’ve written for are so old I’m not sure I could write for them anymore without re-immersion.
While I do have a Tumblr for roleplay, it’s not an interactive one; it just contains content that I think that character would reblog. I think it still counts.
As for the F/F, you’ll have to find me among all the Buffy: The Vampire Slayer authors and that’s a long held secret. (It’s on Fanfiction.net.) Technically, I have now published M/M as well, for both MCU and -- less technically -- Galileo, both in the context of threesomes.
I do not make outlines; I make notes. Certified pantser here.
I tag: @liuet, @maegane, @terribleteej, and @ohmuqueen.

Med Rewatch Series (#1)
Right, monkey brain said no sleep no rest, only suffering at the hands of med.
I am going to start with the first episode of S2: Soul Care. Reasoning? I need to check if Latham references Ava in his first interaction with Connor.
If my memory serves me right, when Connor is passed over to Latham for his fellowship, Latham says that he was not his first choice. In fact, his first choice was a brilliant surgeon from South Africa. In the first episode of S2, a season where Ava Bekker is only introduced with one line at the end of the last episode.
If I remember correctly and Latham does actually say that in the first ep of s2, it will be huge for the continuity (and my theory that I came up with today, if you’re interested in following this you should really read that really long post that came a little before this where the basis of the theory is laid out).
Also in rewatching this I see more of Sarah which, again, I have not seen in two years, and she was the reason I became invested in the show, and the reason I stopped watching after she left.
And all of this even before I start the episode.
There are so many emotions and thoughts running through my brain it literally hurts. I think i’m getting a headache. I’m already really regretting this, this cannot be healthy for me.
(btw, this will basically be a train of thought type thing, I’ll do my best to keep it coherent)
- omg its starting
- i completely forgot how s1 ended but its not importnat in anyway
- just, why are they in a helicopter
- how fast does the episode move ive forgotten and i need to know
-JESUS CHRIST SO DRAMATIC
- THE BEGINNING WITH WILL WHY
- it is at this point where I apologize to all those who made it this far bc we’re literally not even 30 seconds in yet
- i just have a lot of med thoughts
- oh god save me
- i am laughing hysterically
- JESUS CHRIST THE APRIL TB STORYLINE AND TATE WTF
- god that feels like a lifetime ago it was relevant holyshit
-remember when she was pregnant?
- literally what have I missed
- side note, i really like the cup april drinks out of.
-THERE SHE IS
-SARAH
-SHE’S HERE
-and she’s a barista
-literally wtf is this show
-and the dramatic music is still going literally chill man god
-THE WAY SARAH SMILES HOLY SHITTTT come on man there was literally no way i’d survive this but fuck not even a minute in...
- okay but i never understood charles’ family scenario but this is already too fucking long for a minute in so i hope we can just skip past that
-hahahah sharon’s fucking divorce? holy shit, this is too dramatic for the first ep literally save me (at least she acts well)
-yeah the one thing I will say about med (thats a lie ive already said a hundred but yk) is that for the crap storylines and all, the actors take what they’re given and give it their all and i appreciate it so much
-the helicopter’s number is N365UCC and just... succ
-ethans bird (!)
-also the fact that’s so big for ethan to be chief resident is so weird to me. like the last medical drama I watched was greys and they are all like grizzled veterans and have been doing that stuff for actual decades and i tend to put med and greys on like the same level bc they are the only medical dramas ive watched but.. holy crap the people on med are so young?? half their main cast is med students and residents. when nearly every main character on greys is a department head. its wild.
-proud of ethan. proud of my boy (did you know that adam jacobs who played aladdin on broadway was in a s3 episode? fun facts) (fun fact: did you know that ava is the only main character on the show who’s status is now deceased? I’ll shut up now.)
-oh my god i say roland buck III’s name and GOD noah jesus
- i find noah incredibly annoying, especially bc he tries to overshadow reese (my fav) but also just bc hes spoiled [that thing that said that one of the biggest mistakes med made was not having sarah get the emergency med residency at the end of s1 comes to mine, and the fact that noah got his residency easy peasy] - but, i will say that the moment at the end of this season where noah and reese dance together at the party is very adorable. (pre reesker brain showing lmao I really did love sarah with my whole heart) (moreover my snapchat memories were filled with just recordings of reese scenes lmaooooo)
-okay at this point I need to stop once i get to the potential ava thing bc what is happening we’re not even two minutes in why is this so long. (so many thoughts)
- i find will annoying but,,, he is kind of nice to look at. and what i mean is like facial acting (i am a lesbian). like. just. don’t speak. and when he’s being a good character he’s fine. it’s very few and very far between ig
-natalie annoys me so much and shes only had one line, and it wasn’t even a character line, it was mainly exposition.
-EW
-FUCKING EW
-ITS CONNOR HE’S HERE. god i forgot what he looked like in red scrubs and his poofy hair. child compared to s3 and s4. hopefully we see latham soon so we all don’t have to suffer through this. and he looks so angsty. he definetly glowed up in the later seasons.
- i have no clue how to spell definetly. I am guessing literally everytime.
-latham please come and end this all.
-oh haha there’s downey hes dead.
-okay so i actually watched s1 after i watched s2 which is so weird to think about. like that means that i liked s2 so much that i BOUGHT THE DVD FOR S1. yeah. I liked it that much (it really only means I was that much of a simp for sarah). but it also means that technically i watched s1 after i met ava?? like i honestly had NO CLUE what was in my future. did young me ever think she was going to stay up late at night, avoiding history hw while analyzing a defunct character from this show on a whim? a character i was super annoyed with at the beginning? who has no become a huge part of my personality? honestly? no. no she did not.
-and the story with downey was so jarring. and the story with zanetti. like i think i first started watching with the first ep of s2 (the one im talking about rn) and i was a bit lost. so going back and watch s1 to like connect the dots. but i never expected the dots to look like that. its like each season of this show is a completely different show from all the other seasons. like i’ve said before, this show is a headache. but literally latham please come and end this for now.
-GOD CONNOR LOOKS SO YOUNG WHAT THE HELL thats so weird lmaooooo
- like i had absolutely no clue who downey was going into this. and they they started talking like ‘oh yeah he killed his attending’ and i was just like ‘damn bro ill cheers to that’
- that’s literally ava’s first line actually. “i heard your girlfriend went insane and you murdered your attending.” - which was why she was hated at first. that was literally her first line to connor which is like, so hilariously rude that it was instantly iconic.
-also HAHAHAHAH CUE FUCKING ANGST ABOUT CONNOR HURTING EVERYONE AROUND HIM WTF BRO THE EFFECT YOU HAVE ON PEOPLE
- but i’m also sad now. --- “I heard your girlfriend went insane.” Oh. Oh, sweetie. Ava... No. --- but why does s2 ava (all two lines) foreshadow s4 ava in so many ways. like literally what were the writers on.
-baghdad.
-ah yes. the return of baghdad. been a long time since i heard that one, but it is easily one of my favorite running things about med. its just a little detail but the nick name is like perfect. (when i read fanfic where the chars are actually doing doctor stuff in the hospital it makes me light up) the WORLD BUILDINGGGGG. but whatever
-this is the girl who has the fake baby right? that was a really good ep (bc sarah content. can you see my favorites? for the same reason the one where the girl has split personalities easily ranks high with me.) oh wait this is the one where the dad like dies but then comes back for a split second to see his grand child. there’s not really a lot I can say about that, but the fact that i remember it vividly is... weird.
-okay but I actually love the ED in this show. I love how the show is centered around the ED and not the OR like greys. its fast paced, you see a lot about the characters really quickly (one of the reason’s connor’s intro to the hospital in the pilot is certified iconic in my mind [his interactions with will are gold]). the team works well together (usually, when things are good. - which is another reason I hated the show more as time went on. The personal lives interfered more and more and more with their work as time went on. it got so annoying). but like right here will just calls maggies name and maggie is just On It. I love it. I love the fast pace. it’s why this show got me to come back. so many things happen, it overloads my brain, like the way a video game works y occupying all of your attention.
-when is the dad gonna pass out i’m just waiting
-AHAHAHAHAHA JEFF NOOOOO. what even was the deal with jeff that storyline annoyed me so much I never got it. he was friends with nat’s husband (who died) and they were both named Jeff? and she actually ended up getting with Jeff a few times?
- the more you watch med and see how the characters get with each other, the more jaded you become
-omg they’re transferring the girl to the bed i love it when they count
-maggie was great but from what i heard/read they ruined her character too??? just not the same
-lmao only real g’s remember the chicago fire backdoor med pilot (if you want an explanation ask me lmao it was a ride)
- i was a real med simp bc I bought that episode on apple video.
-ahahaha this is so stupid. Jeff tries to do things and Will (being a fucking asshole and jealous, doesnt’ let him). he’s a med student let him fucking learn. also i remember why i hated will
-okay but if you look at greys vs. med, greys literally gives their med students no rights. scratch that. they give they’re interns little to no rights. (i only watched the last three seasons bc lesbian, but in those seasons they introduce the bottom of the totem pole, the sub I’s, who are a step ahead of med students, yet they are jokes on the show.) its just a weird juxtaposition is all.
-”lungs are wet.” dramatic music intensifies.
-OKAY BUT I LITERALLY FORGOT NATALIE SPECIALIZED IN PEDS. LIKE I COMPLETELY 100% FORGOT. HOLY SHIT THATS SO FUNNY i can’t believe in my mass hyperfixation i forgot, just more proof that she doesn’t deserve anything.
-why did will make nat do that call? also idk why but is it weird to anyone else when the characters call each other but just.. their names.
-ahahahah i laugh literally everytime i remember that will is supposed to be in charge like he is threatened by anything that MOVES. (also more juxtapositon to greys bc here the attendings are treated as a joke!)
- hly shit i just remember monday mourning and god damn the angst literally never takes a day off but whatever.
- i dont usually get like this but the dad’s acting here is actually making me sad lol. Usually i get annoyed when family members get emotional (im weird uhhhh)
-why did we have to watch the tube being put in for so long - med is so dramatic this fucking show whyyyy
- i bet u the dad is gonna pass out
-oh ig not oops
-OKAY FUCK ME THAT LITERALLY ONLY TOOK US TO THE TITLES HOW DO I HAVE THESE MANY FUCKING THOUGHTS.
-wait latham introduction we may just be able to call it here.
-haha i fucking hate him (connor). he just... comes off so fake-charming its annoying. i cant get over it lmao
-okay but literally every gives connor shit and I am here for it. Latham: “did you kill him?”
- it is literally so funny but annoy how connor throws hands with literally everyone in his path (like dude just chill come onnn)
-okay. okay. okay. finally the part i was waiting for.
- Latham: I preferred a young woman from Groote Schuur, but I was outvoted.
That’s an actual quote, from Latham. For those who are wondering, Groote Schuur is a famous hospital in, you guessed it, South Africa. This is where I’m calling the episode. This is all I needed.
I just want to restate. This is the first episode of season 2. Ava Bekker is introduced to the show in the last episode of season 2. What does this mean, my friends? It means everything.
For those of you who stuck through to the end, I am very thankful. Here we have probably the first piece of evidence to my theory, at least chronologically.
I, personally, think it’s absurd I remembered this point, but I did. That point, that line, presently, watching this episode with no idea of what the future holds, is only there to tell us that Latham and Connor are not going to agree. But this is the single greatest piece of foreshadowing med has ever done.
Med has never planned anything. I feel confident when I say that. Look at their storylines. They are literally on fire, and every decision the characters make reads like the writers going ‘we have no idea how we made it this far, we thought we would get stopped like ten steps ago.’
When has med ever planned things more than a few episodes in advanced, honestly? Almost never, and going a full season sitting on a plot point, that’s major. This was the first time med has ever planned something miles in advance.
In all honestly, yes I am probably giving the med writers a lot more credit than they deserve. It’s quite possible that as the season progressed they just decided connor needed a new love interest or at least a new dynamic, so they could have just easily looked back and thought ‘oh, hey, here’s a fun little thing we said earlier in the season, wouldn’t it be fun if it paid off?’ That could be true.
Here’s why it probably isn’t. The med writers have no respect for their own continuity. you really think that, in order to come up with a whole new character, they went back to the first episode of the season and paid off a line that is said in less than 2 seconds? no way. Bull. Shit.
honestly, it is probably equally unlikely that either of these things happened. The med writers don’t look back at their story. It’s true, but they also don’t plan things in advance either.
here’s the thing, the more i write, the more absurd it starts to sound. Yeah. Sure. the med writers sat on a character for an entire season, that’s totally a thing that happened and not sarcasm. When pigs fly. everyone knows med is impulsive and messy. But what I am saying is that they planned one thing. One thing.
Ava has an accent. That was a commitment. A pretty uncommon one too. South Africa is such an out of the box choice that god its barely on the map. It asks a lot of someone to act hard while also doing an uncommon accent. If the med writers just decided they needed to give connor a new dynamic, they could have made it a n y o n e. Yeah, sure it would have been nice to have the latham dynamic with the new character, but it would have been so much easier to just create a new character that doesn’t have such a commitment. We all know people who play opposite of Connor Rhodes do not stay around that long.
There is absolutely no reason Connor’s s3 love interest had to be the girl from South Africa. It could have literally been anyone. They could have kept Robin on. They could have made the new character not have so many specific requirements.
At this point, I’m pushing this really hard. Yeah, obviously Ava was planned from the beginning of s2. She had to be. It’s way too specific to be anything else.
What I’m pointing out here is med has never done that before. (at least to my knowledge, if i’m wrong please tell me i don’t want to be a fool) They have never had such a concrete plan for a character, so much as to tease them a full season before they were introduced.
I’m saying, that Ava was special. She was the only character who was teased ahead of her arrival. The one who they knew they wanted, other than the originals, and honestly saying the ‘knew what they wanted to do with the originals’ is being generous. But Ava was different. They had big plans for Ava.
It’s undeniable. Ava was the only character who was planned and teased ahead of her arrival. Ava has such a different style and character than anyone else on the show. She was always planned to be, even when she was just being teased, a rival to connor, meaning she could stand her own against him (or without him).
Now of course, the med writers forgot this when writing s4 and s5. But for the purposes of the important things, all that really matters are the two mentions in s2, and what happens in s3. (for the theory at least).
In conclusion: think about how odd it is that Ava was the only character that was planned over the course of the show. Like sure the characters are planned, but never this far in advance. Med writers don’t really plan anything. I would be shocked if they did anything but through a dart at a spinning wheel. But they had plans for Ava, and they had plans for s3, when she was good.
Think about how odd it is that the med writers had a character planned from the start of s2, that they sat on for a whole season. They never, ever did something so slow and deliberate. Never. It goes against their formula. Like a fucking shark, they have to be moving or they die, at least in their heads. But Ava was always a change to the formula. They had a plan for s3.
that’s it for now. we will see what happens when i watch the last episode of s2.

How SpaceX lowered costs and reduced barriers to space
by Wendy Whitman Cobb
Tumblr media
Minutes after launching the Falcon Heavy rocket, SpaceX was livestreaming footage from the Tesla Roadster it released into space. SpaceX, CC BY-NC-SA
On March 2, SpaceX plans to launch its first test of an unmanned Dragon vehicle which is designed to carry humans into low Earth orbit and to the International Space Station. If the test is successful, later this year, SpaceX plans to launch American astronauts from United States soil for the first time since 2011.
While a major milestone for a private company, SpaceX’s most significant achievement has been in lowering the launch costs that have limited many space activities. While making several modifications to the fuel and engines, SpaceX’s major breakthroughs have come through recovering and reusing as much of the rocket and launch vehicle as possible.
Between 1970 and 2000, the cost to launch a kilogram to space remained fairly steady, with an average of US$18,500 per kilogram. When the space shuttle was in operation, it could launch a payload of 27,500 kilograms for $1.5 billion, or $54,500 per kilogram. For a SpaceX Falcon 9, the rocket used to access the ISS, the cost is just $2,720 per kilogram.
I’m a space policy analyst, and I’ve observed that cost has been a major hurdle limiting access to space. Since the 1950s, the high cost of a space program has traditionally put it beyond the reach of most countries. Today, state and private actors alike have ready access to space. And while SpaceX is not the only private company providing launch services – Orbital ATK, recently purchased by Northrop Grumman, United Launch Alliance and Jeff Bezos’s Blue Origin are also players – it has emerged as the most significant.
SpaceX’s achievements
Tumblr media

Frustrated with NASA and influenced by science fiction writers, Elon Musk founded SpaceX in 2002. Though it suffered several setbacks, in 2008 it launched the first privately funded liquid-fueled rocket, the Falcon 1. Falcon 9 flew for the first time the next year, and in 2012, the Dragon capsule became the first privately funded spacecraft to dock with the ISS. SpaceX has since focused on recovering key parts of the Falcon 9 to enhance reusability and reduce costs. This includes the Falcon 9’s first stage which, once it expends its fuel, falls back through the atmosphere reaching speeds of 5,200 miles per hour before reigniting its engines to land on a drone recovery ship.
In 2018 alone, SpaceX made 21 successful launches. The new Falcon Heavy rocket – a more powerful version of the Falcon 9 – launched in February. This rocket can lift 63,800 kilograms, equivalent to more than 27 Asian elephants, to low Earth orbit and 16,800 kilograms to Mars for just $90 million. The test payload was Musk’s own red Tesla Roadster, with a mannequin named Starman in the driver’s seat.
In addition to the crewed Dragon tests this year, SpaceX is continuing development of its Starship, which will be designed to travel through the solar system and carry up to 100 passengers sometime in the 2020s. Musk has also suggested that the Starship could serve as the foundation for a lunar base.
Impact on space exploration
SpaceX’s technical advances and cost reductions have changed the direction of U.S. space policy. In 2010, the Obama administration moved away from NASA’s Constellation program, which called for the development of a family of rockets that could reach low Earth orbit and be used for long-distance spaceflight. With NASA falling significantly behind schedule, because of technological difficulties and budget cuts, the Obama administration was left with a choice of whether to boost funds for NASA or change direction.
youtube
SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy first stage falls back to Earth and is reused to boost cost savings.
In 2010, then-President Barack Obama toured Kennedy Space Center and even met with Elon Musk to get a firsthand look at SpaceX’s facilities. The administration chose to reorient the program to focus solely on deep space. For missions closer to home, NASA would purchase services from companies like SpaceX for access to low Earth orbit. Critics objected to budget cuts to NASA as well as concerns about whether the private sector would be able to follow through on providing launch services.
While NASA has struggled to develop its Space Launch System, an analysis from NASA’s Ames Research Center found that the dramatically lower launch costs SpaceX made possible offered “greatly expanded opportunities to exploit space” for many users including NASA. The report also suggested that NASA could increase its number of planned missions to low Earth orbit and the ISS precisely because of the lower price tag.
In addition to substantially affecting human spaceflight, SpaceX has also launched payloads for countries including Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Indonesia and, most recently, Israel. On Feb. 21, 2019, a Falcon 9 launched a privately built Israeli lunar lander which, if successful, will be the first privately built lunar probe.
Overall, SpaceX has significantly reduced the barriers to space, making it more accessible and democratizing who participates in space-based commerce and exploration.
Challenges ahead
Despite SpaceX’s successes, it faces significant challenges. Earlier this year, SpaceX laid off 10 percent of its workforce to reduce costs. NASA remains suspicious of some of the launch procedures SpaceX plans to use, including the fueling of the rocket with astronauts on board, which was linked to an explosion of a Falcon 9 on the launchpad. The Department of Defense’s inspector general has also announced an investigation into how the Air Force certified the Falcon 9, though it is not clear what initiated the probe.
Among some in NASA, the concern is with Musk himself. In a video last year, Musk was seen smoking marijuana, which prompted NASA to initiate a safety review of SpaceX as well as Boeing, another company aiming to provide launch services. Musk has also found himself in hot water with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission regarding his tweets about another one of his companies, Tesla. In recent days, the SEC has asked a judge to hold Musk in contempt for apparently violating a settlement deal reached last year. While he is undoubtedly the driving force behind both Tesla and SpaceX, erratic behavior could make potential customers wary of contracting with them.
Musk, regardless of his personal missteps, and SpaceX have aggressively pushed technological boundaries that have changed minds, my own included, about the potential of private companies to provide safe and reliable access to space.

I think this piece about Cleveland’s LeBron James banner won me the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists’ Best Reporter award: Literally the entire city was looking at an iconic, massive piece of public art/advertising — and I was the one person who looked behind the scenes. This kind of piece is a specialty. For Alternative Press, I interviewed an infamous punk musician about his friendship with the late, great Anthony Bourdain. I supplied many conversation prompts, transcribed it, then edited his answers into one continuous narrative, while I remained invisible in the piece. If it looks like I didn’t do much, then that was the entire point.

vancouver seo company Services
The promoting medium in 2010 is rapidly altering. Telephone books, radio, tv, and print promoting are falling away. When folks wish to look one thing up or or want info they go to the Web. After all everyone knows that Google is the highest search engine they use.  vancouver seo company Services
Contemplating this reality it has change into tantamount for native corporations to be in prime placements for his or her native key phrase if they need any form of important on-line focused visitors.
For those who personal a plumbing firm in Vancouver, WA, then it is advisable be on web page one in all Google for that key phrase "plumbing Vancouver WA" when somebody seems it up. Read More
No matter enterprise you might be in you must have your web site rating on web page one within the three main search engines like google and yahoo for the primary key phrase that describes what you do and the town or city you do this in. If you don't, you might be leaving leaving tons of enterprise on the desk. And once more, persons are not trying within the telephone guide like they used to. Its far simpler to go surfing.
Oh, but when it had been that simple! Who wouldn't wish to have their web site #1 on Google for his or her key phrase? However right here is the catch. To have the ability to accomplish this you want on web page and off web page search engine marketing. Related Topics: SEO for Plumbers SEO for HVAC Mechanics
So far as on web page search engine optimisation goes your web site must be coded accurately with the correct CSS, your URLs should be correctly titled and optimized, it is advisable have a minimum of 150 to 350 phrases of key phrase wealthy content material on each touchdown web page, your H1 and H2 tags should be adjusted on your desired key phrase in addition to secondary key phrases, it is advisable have photographs, and your linking buildings must be structured in a method the place the "PR juice" all flows to your homepage however can be handed on to your sub pages primarily based on how essential they're.
Seems like loads. That's simply your on web page search engine optimisation optimization. What I simply talked about takes a whole lot of work and that's simply in your precise web site.
Upon getting accomplished this you might be solely midway completed.
Until your website is exceptionally sturdy, or powered/sponsored by one other powerhouse web site, you'll have to do some off web page search engine marketing. This primarily consists of getting focused one way links.
And everybody desires them!
Getting good one way links to assist your natural rankings was once a lot simpler. It nonetheless took a whole lot of work however there have been extra angles through which you could possibly get them. It was simpler to drop hyperlinks in boards, you could possibly publish feedback and provides your self a hyperlink again, submit 100s hyperlinks generally directories, huge hyperlink exchanges, and so forth.
It isn't that simple any longer. Google has eradicated greater than half of the linking methods search engine optimizers used simply 4 years in the past. Now there's a premium for article writing, social media guide advertising, networking with different bloggers and web site house owners, very focused hyperlink exchanges, listing submissions to area of interest directories, and paying a excessive PR website to "assessment" your website (formally paying for any hyperlinks is an enormous no no with the massive G).
It takes a whole lot of work to do that. Once you desire a to be positioned on the entrance of telephone guide with a much bigger advert than everybody else you simply pay extra they usually place you there. It occurs as quickly as you signal your yearly contract.
Once you wish to be positioned on the prime of the major search engines it takes time and a whole lot of effort. Nobody can actually assure you're going to get to a spot in a pre-determined time. All you are able to do is put your website, or your consumer's web site, in the perfect place to do this. And with the correct strategies it normally occurs.
Right here is my level. In case you are native firm you should not have the time to do every thing that I simply talked about. You may attempt to do your individual search engine marketing to be ranked primary on your desired key phrase however except you've gotten time to time in your palms and the experience you will be unable to do it.
It may possibly take over 20 man-hours only for the on-page optimization. The off web page optimization can take simply as lengthy and typically extra.
To put in writing a good article like this one you need to analysis your matter and spend a very good hour writing about it. In case you are not a talented copywriter in the event you take a number of hours. That is the explanation why it is advisable outsource your entire search engine optimisation to a certified and skilled native search engine marketing firm that makes a speciality of this discipline.
A neighborhood search engine optimisation firm that's put collectively effectively may have a number of departments. It can have appointment setters, a gross sales group, web site designers, coders, listing submitters, article and content material writers, and a few sort of customer support division. It takes a full employees of everybody working collectively to rank a web site on web page one in all Google.
Tumblr media
That is the explanation why an area search engine optimisation firm will need you to signal some form of mid to long-term contract with them. They'll be developing with some huge cash upfront to make and subsequently rank your web site. Chances are you'll be shocked by how a lot a very good search engine optimisation firm desires to cost you per 30 days however in actuality they lose cash on you for the primary six months at minimal.
They actually find yourself making their cash after they have completely happy prospects who're rating #1 for his or her search time period, on the prime of Google, and all they should do is preserve your web site and stick with it there, after all of the preliminary exhausting work has been completed.
We now have purchasers who're with my native search engine optimisation Vancouver WA firm that we have now spent 1000's on to get them to the highest of their desired search time period and won't recoup our cash for a yr. To make it price it for us we'd like some sort of assure  consumer we work exhausting on with stick with us for a minimum of a yr.
Earlier than you go together with an area firm that makes a speciality of search engine marketing and different search engine optimisation providers it is advisable ask a number of questions.
First, are they native. Each space is completely different and it'll take barely completely different techniques to rank a website in a smaller metropolis like Vancouver WA than it might for a big metropolis like LA.
Along with this you wish to discover an search engine optimisation firm that's conversant in the realm to allow them to write content material associated to the the place you might be at. A landscaping firm, as an example, who operates in Washington state might be completely different from one working in Arizona.
If there are any issues you additionally wish to have entry to them. Web site modifications, design points, and technical questions pop up routinely. You do not need to be calling an organization three time zones away.
Second, it is advisable make sure that any native search engine optimisation firm has a number of departments of specialists. This discipline is multi-faceted and one individual can not efficiently do every thing alone. I'm not implying a possible search engine optimisation firm has to have 100s of workers however you wish to see that they've a minimum of a number of certified techs who work on completely different components of your web site.
Like I mentioned earlier than, even for a primary website, the optimization course of might take 40 man hours for on web page and off web page search engine optimisation.
Third, ask any search engine marketing firm to provide you references. If they are saying they're good you must ask them to show it. They need to have a pleasant checklist so that you can scan. It is best to see that they've ranked a number of web sites for his or her desired key phrase on web page one in all Google.
If they can not produce this you recognize they both are mendacity about what they will do or they aren't good at what they do.
Each metropolis now has a number of search engine optimisation corporations working in them. The bigger cities, in fact, have extra. However, in each metropolis there are solely 2-Three very proficient corporations who actually know what they're doing and it's your job to seek out them. The success you've gotten on-line will depend on it.
Discovering a very good search engine optimisation Vancouver WA firm must be thought-about with a whole lot of thought. You might be most probably going to be making a month-to-month financial dedication and also you wish to be sure that firm is aware of what they're doing.
Cities like Vancouver WA provide a novel problem as a result of there may be one other metropolis, and far bigger, that has the identical identify as them. You've got to be sure that all of the hyperlinks and coding are worded to make the excellence between the "Vancouver" in Canada and the one in Washington. Comics, Pornography, and Communication: also, a discussion of why *Men* suck.
First, notice how I typed out *Men* up there. It is capitalized. There are asterisks around the word. I don’t describe myself as a “social justice warrior” because the label, to me, signifies lip service, mob mentality, and a lack of critical thinking. Second, notice how I qualified that definition with “to me.” It’s subjective. It’s about my experience with the term and the people who’ve I encountered who use it as an identity. Do I think social justice is bad? No. Do I think wanting social justice, equity, and all those buzz words is wrong? Nope. But do I think the world is mostly grey areas? Heck golly gosh, I do.
*Men* (to me) is meant to signify major societal trends, norms, and expectations that are grounded in patriarchal, misogynistic, and ableist rules, environments, and scripts that are written for *Men,* by *Men,* between *Men,* and with *Men.* *Men* are those who think the world works a certain way, so suck it up because that’s just the way the world is. *Men* (In. My. Experience.) have zero interest in critical thinking unless it is done so in a way that benefits them and other Men. Often times, *Men* engage in the lowest threshold of critical thinking or want to employ rhetorical techniques/classical logic to whatever is being discussed. *Men* is not limited to cis-men. This is important but not relevant to the following discussion. I’M ONLY GOING TO BE DISCUSSING AMERICAN COMICS. YES, I KNOW THE FIRST RECORDED SUPERHERO COMIC WAS MADE IN THE 1800s SOMEWHERE IN EUROPE. So, let me tell you that this entire position that I’m about to present is NOT about:
1. The history, merit, or discussion of why Comix (different from comics, for historical reasons) is important. Underground Comix is important for many reasons. There have been dissertations written on the subject. I’m not about to do that here. 2. Whether or not the goal of satire was/is achieved with Underground Comix. 3. Whether Underground Comix is “problematic.” I.e. was/is it sexist, ableist, racist, bigoted, and whatever other problems they could have. Again, another dissertation topic. Again, again, aaaagain: this is about my individual experience working in a comic book shop. Don’t act like I’m drafting a treatise on some objective truth that’s floating aimlessly around in a vacuum. Go watch Netflix. Eat pizza. This isn’t that deep. It’s me griping about things from a particular point of view. Some background: I’ve worked at a comic book shop in a small, midwestern city for almost five years now. The shop has been here going on over 20+ years. It’s the only game in town when it comes to comic books. Historically, this wasn’t the case but other shops didn’t adapt so, uh, they died off. Comics is a strange business to be in because while it is technically a bookshop, the industry came from a place of fun and general absurdity that was meant to be throwaway material for kids (especially the target market, young boys) to waste money on (hence, why Golden Age stuff, any of it really, is usually worth a little something--the newsprint wasn’t meant to be durable, so kids would throw them away, use it for drawing paper, etc.). Comics had been around before the Golden Age, but yanno, it’s called a Golden Age for a reason--it is the era in which comics became introduced as “suitable” for mainstream consumer consumption. I mean, we could argue on other reasons but that’s neither here nor there. Comic books, graphic novels, and comic strip utilize sequential art. Sequential art is a specialized term. Within the definition itself, the requirement of narrative is implicitly built into the term. There is no room for debate here. If a story is not being told, a body of work can be classified as art but it is not sequential. Art can tell a story, sure, but a square is a rectangle but a rectangle isn’t a square. I run into a wide variety of people because of the strangeness of the product we sell. We’ve got readers (like myself), we’ve got collectors, we’ve got beginner readers, we’ve got artists (like me), we’ve got writers (like me), and we’ve got people who “haven’t been to a comic store in ages and, boy!, is it sure different than when I was young!” And, yes, we have the certified perverts. Once, I found out one of our customers was a registered child sex offender. I politely told my boss that if the person in question wasn’t banned from the store, I was quitting. As with all stores, as times change, so does business practice. One must adapt to the changes that are happening around them or they have to have a big enough, steady clientele to support them. This comic book shop, in particular, did not and does not have a large enough, regular clientele base that spends enough money for us to keep doing things the way it always had been. These are just facts. In the past, this store was ran in such a way that it was a dying business but the current owner would put their own money into it in order to keep it afloat. At that time, the store allowed some subscribers (note: to my knowledge, all cis-gender men) to order exclusively from publishers like Boundless Comics (publisher who specializes in “sexy, cool comics for adults”) with no advance payment. Which means if they never came to pick up their stuff, we were stuck with the responsibility to sell it because, well, we already paid for it. I don’t think I have to make a Venn diagram to convince anyone that the overlap between deadbeats (for our subscription service--basically, we never heard from someone ever again) and these men was pretty much two circles just a bit off-center from one another. These were not comics we could put out to be sold because they never would be. In over 20 years, our numbers have shown that Adult/XXX/Mature comics don’t sell well off the rack regularly. We do have one or two customers back from Ye Olden Days who still have subscriptions to mature comics, but they never look around. They never try out something new. They buy the comics they ordered because they wouldn’t get them any other way. Both of them are strongly against buying things on the internet, so my guess is we’re they’re only option. I wasn’t around during the time in which “boxes were kept under the counter” for “special comics.” Today: About a month ago, an older man (because all of the customers who ask for the “boxes under the counter” are older) came into the store. He looked around. He came up to the counter and asked me where the Underground Comix were. I showed him where we kept our collection of Underground Comix. He said that wasn’t what he was looking for. Did we have the “boxes under the counter.” Now, understand, I’ve been told about all of this because we don’t have it anymore but I needed to know the store’s history. Fair. I told him that we do not and have not in many years. But, when people ask me for Those Boxes, I know what they’re asking for. Not all of it was satirical Underground Comix. So, they usually stumble when I tell them that, no we don’t. This guy stumbled. I could assume a number of reasons as to why he did so, but it really doesn’t do any good. So, I try to ask a number of questions to find something else they might like to try. The conversation goes like this: Me: Are you looking for a comic or graphic novel with explicit sexual content? Him: Yes. Me: Okay, I can definitely suggest Saga and Sex Criminals.
At this point, I pull out the first trades of both and show the explicit sexual content in both. I mention the art, the story, and the writing. Sequential art is divided into four elements: design, drawing, caricature, and writing. Design, drawing, and writing are usually the most salient elements to a lay reader. Caricature has a lot to do with symbolic representation--how does one exaggerate an element of X in order to represent X? But some people lay people are interested in this element because of the comical effect it can play in a comic story. Him: No. Not like that. Me: What is missing from this then? Him: Something more adult. Me: Would you like explicit sexual content with more graphic violence? Him: Yeah, that sounds about right. Me: Okay, I’ve got Crossed.
!WARNING WARNING WARNING! THE LINK I’VE PROVIDED IS TO THE WIKIPEDIA PAGE WHICH IS ABOUT THE TAMEST RESOURCE FOR WHAT CROSSED IS THAT I KNOW OF. DO NOT LOOK INTO THIS COMIC IF EXTREME VIOLENCE, GRAPHIC DEPICTIONS OF DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT, INCEST, BESTIALITY, RAPE, BLASPHEMY OF RELIGIONS, AND A WHOLE HOST OF OTHER THINGS REMOTELY BOTHER YOU. NOT EVEN TRIGGER--REMOTELY. BOTHER. So, yeah, I feel like I’d picked out a good contender considering. Him: No. Not like this. But, hey, wanna know something about Crossed? Everybody is a target for wanton humiliation, suffering, and all sorts of horrible things! Is this something I’m praising? No. It’s just a fact of the comic. And an important fact to know when guy says to me: Him: Well, the old Underground Comix I used to read were more sophisticated with the satire, like the sex in it was about humor with having sex with women. Me: So, you’re looking for comics about humorous sexual encounters that are also explicit? And as I start suggesting comics, he interrupted. Him: No, not like that. More like... *he pulls out a Robert Crumb collection we have and thumbs through it* that. The funny stuff, yanno? The picture in question (I won’t link it, because it is upsetting, as will be my description of it) is just in Crumb’s style--pretty distinctive--and it’s one panel of a skinny, naked man with a sizeable erection. He’s bent over backwards, his hips bent such that his back is practically parallel with the floor of the drawing and his erection (which, if I recall correctly is something like 1/5-1/6 of the height of the page) is pretty close to perpendicular with the floor. One of his hands is wrapped around a nude woman’s throat, the drawing exaggerating the woman’s body parts as if she were being squeezed through tube--the head is ballooned and her neck stretches out to her shoulders. her arms are ramrod straight leading down to outstretched hands. Her legs are equally straightened, bent ninety degrees at the hips. There are motion lines to indicate that the man is forcibly shoving the woman onto his dick over and over again. By her throat. He’s got a pretty happy expression. She does not. Please, read the part where I explain what this thing I’m writing is NOT. Because it is a grey area if you know enough about history and context. Divorced of context, it’s pretty disgusting. I’ll just say that outright. So, if we use the four elements of sequential art to think about what story is being told and how it’s being told, there are things I can understand. The design is good (lots of sharp angles). The caricature is good (Crumb is great with exaggerated forms, whether I like his style or not is irrelevant). The drawing is in Crumb’s style which I can understand why people like his art. So, that leaves the writing. It is wordless but there’s still a story being told. Me and this guy were have a disconnect about what kind of story he wanted to read. Cut to today, about a month after this. It seemed like he hadn’t internalized anything we’d gone over because he had similar questions. At one point, he finally picked up a book and bought it. Which led me to writing this humongous post for the last four hours (it’s been busy today!). Because the guy wasn’t asking for pornography. I’ve definitely straight up told people before we don’t sell pornographic material here. Besides, how we define porn depends on the era. To me, I define it as material that was created with the intention to arouse, stimulate, and to be used as an aid for sexual activity AND someone wants to consume it for said purposes. But, that’s not a definition that would fit all pornographic material. The guy was (again, my perspective. Why I have to keep saying that is important here in a moment) asking for satirical material where misogyny was humorous. Now, if you were to ask him to communicate what he wanted, I guess good luck on getting that answer. I’ve tried. I don’t think he could, to be quite honest because that’s how *Men* are (hey! I used it again). This guy is a *Man* and his answers to me when I probe are, “How it used to be, just how things are,” and the like. The comic book industry is usually fraught with the same problems regular prose books are, the big topics being censorship and purity politics. It’s not as bad as, let’s say, the 1960s and 1970s but there are still problems. Even books for readers of all ages come under scrutiny and are banned from some libraries and schools (Raina Telgemeier’s Drama, for example). To censor any material is a very murky grey area for me. To say that someone cannot create material because it contains material that I am not comfortable with is even murkier because, usually, I’m presented with these hypotheticals in the form of loaded questions (”So, have you stopped bad habit X?” which doesn’t allow me to engage in how I qualify my own habits); complex questions (”What is the legal age of consent to sexual activity?” assumes a LOT of things about legality, age of consent, consent, and sexual activity without consideration to context, to say the least); false dilemmas, suggestive questions, leading questions, and... *takes a deep breath* *exhales* Listen, there’s just a lot of things that make a lot of issues super murky and grey for me. That’s not to say I don’t have opinions and personal/societal biases that sway me toward one end or the other of a polemic (I’m human. We all do it).
When I say, “I hate *Men,*” it is hatred directed towards the skewed power dynamics and socialization that I’m cemented into (through no consent or fault of my own), that allows a *Man* to think (without a second thought) about showing someone the picture I described and not worrying about what he’s communicating. About what the comic is communicating. Let’s pretend that he knows the historical context and importance of Underground Comix. How does he know that I know those things? I mean, I do, but this guy doesn’t know that. “But, Ash!” you argue. “You literally asked him to show you an example!” My friend, there’s no shortage of Underground Comix either from Crumb himself or in similar style that showcases supposedly satirical humor where “battle of the sexes” comes into play. To show someone that image with no knowledge of what the other person knows is a little dicey imho But it sucks! I have to be okay with him showing me that! I asked for an example and I got it. In his mind, it was a smooth communicative exchange. Request for information? Information given! Because of *Men,* I have to watch the way I approach wanting to talk about this subject because I might become “emotional” or I might be accused of, gasp, showing bias! (Newsflash: we’re humans. WE ALL HAVE BIASES. If you aren’t willing to talk about and challenge them then THAT’S a problem. Another story for another day, I digress). And it’s a shame because I know this *Man* isn’t wanting to consume stories where rape is funny because he’s interested in engaging with content that is historically important but because it was created in the context of some socially-acceptable horrible crap there’s some interesting discussion to be had. No, my bet is the thought process looks like: “Heh. Yeah, I know that feeling. Sometimes you just want to have a girl ride you but she just doesn’t know how to slam that pussy down right, so you gotta help her!” “lol yeah sometimes you just wish pussy would magically work your dick into oblivion without you having to worry about the woman that’s attached to it! am I right, y’all?” laugh out loud satire right there someone give me my own netflix show (watch someone take this section out of context sigh) And, honestly, I don’t know where I’m going with this. I didn’t have a thesis or anything. Just me rambling. RIP moblrs
