i just wanna talk about PLANES AND PLANE INCIDENTS GODDAMN IT!!!!! I HATE HAVING THIS SPECIAL INTEREST BECAUSE WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND IS GONNA WANNA TALK ABOUT AN ACCIDENT THAT JUST HAPPENED!!!!
#(head in my hands)#(muffled) just want everyone to know that ATC has been understaffed for years#like probably since the late 90s#and i think there should be protections for ATC operators in case something like this happens#in 2002 an ATC operator made a mistake due to short staffing + maintenance was being done on ground equipment at the tower#he was keeping track of multiple flights switching between two or three different screens#he tried to call a different tower to have them take over because he was getting overwhelmed but the lines were out due to maintenance#this caused two aircraft to collide killing 71#the ATC operator was murdered by a man who lost his family in the crash two years later#murdered right in front of his kids his wife. the guy who killed him is hailed as a hero#there are a lot of details i left out because this is... in the tags but#sighs
