This is my idea  for a culture Jam in  hopes to culture jam The education system to make  students more aware of the atrocities  that are going on  in  public school curriculum.  the script that goes with my presentation is here:
My project is a Multi-Faceted Culture-Jam that addresses Donald Trump’s war on historical knowledge. He hopes that the future forgets so he can re-use old narratives used by past authoritarian dictators. Narratives that take the value from knowledge and place importance upon mindless spectacle  and mind-numbing distractions. This will create a type of drugged complacency.  Our youth deserves to  be informed on why and what they are learning. Currently there is a financial starvation and  evisceration of public schools going on to make them unequipped to create a well-informed future society. Besty Devos, the United States secretary of education, is doing this by:
Privatizing Education –– vouchers
Replacing lessons of history with an instrumentalist curriculum who’s primary and only objective is to  put emphasis on having job-ready skills –– turning them into better consumers and increasing the appeal to having knowledge to only get by.
Getting rich (yacht)
Knowledge is strength
Teachers are powerful
Many go beyond their call of duty every day. They don’t take this job to be underpaid and under-appreciated, yet often they are.
They see the power and importance of knowledge and learning, and they want to help, but it’s not easy when they are being devalued from every aspect.
Phase I
Phase 1 of my culture jam involves getting the cooperation of individual public school districts to allow our group  “advocates for knowledge” to put on a culture jam  performance in high school/middle school auditoriums for their students. It will be a short play digging into the themes of fed narratives, such as: learning is boring, school is stupid, and history is in the past. So why do we have to learn about it?
The play will be followed up an informational age-appropriate presentation informing students on the importance of questioning all these narratives and encourage them to be excited about learning for their own well being.
It will inform them on the intentional financial deprivation of their schools and education and help them take a look at where this money is going to.
The teachers and students will then be encouraged to take a pledge that they will put emphasis on the importance of knowledge and power for the well being of the world and a conscious United States.
Phase  II
Students will be encouraged to create a club across school-wide grade levels to read, learn and talk about supporting  material. Upon joining, they will receive a small  culture jam  souvenir and continue to receive them as they meet check points.
Upon taking the pledge and joining, they will receive a holographic book mark that when looking at it  from one angle shows the face of Betsy Devos and have her name written below. Then looking at it from another angle, her face will turn into a monster resembling her, and the name will change to Betsy Devious.
Students will also be encouraged to download an App on their cell phones that pair with the supporting material: It will have them take an in app Quiz and recommend the book they should start with. For example, a good starter book would be Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451.
This  additional reading will be encouraged using a badge system, giving them culture-jammed trinkets as they dig deeper into important narratives and make larger connections.
For example, if they work their way up to reading George Orwell”s 1984,  they will earn a cool book cover that has the face of Betsey Devos on it, and below it it will say  “Ministry of Truth,” a reference from that novel.
Turning the education system into something people like Betsy Devos can not profit from will be no easy task, but starting with young minds  and dedicated teachers is the best way to go.
It is important that we teach young people to learn earlier on that their brains are not for sale.
We need future generations to take an active position in their own education.
Trump does not read. But that does not mean that we can stop. Literacy is a privilege. It is critical to our freedom that we stop taking it for granted!!

Lodi Homestead - A piece of the American Dream in a global pandemic.
“We are all Americans”
I forget the question Meredith’s son asked his mother, but her response rang through me. In these crazy times that is the year 2020, we have a lot on our nation’s plate currently - from the coronavirus pandemic to social and civil unrest and to the resulting economic fallout from it all. I’ve always asked myself, what does it mean to be an American? What makes us different and separates us from the rest of the human beings of other nations? Diversity, for sure. The United States is a young nation full of different backgrounds, cultures and values. As we know, diversity, free-flowing ideas, competition and collaboration builds a stronger society and advances humanity forward. But it doesn’t come without it struggles - freedom doesn’t come free. Sacrifices are made through trial and error.
So what did I come away with from Meredith’s answer to her son? Americans come in all shape, sizes and thoughts. Americans lives in big cities and they live in small rural areas. Americans love their guns and their right to bear arms, others hate them and don’t believe the 2nd Amendment was meant for “weapons of war”, while others believe that American citizens have the right to own whatever the government has access to. Americans may only know how to hustle in one way - using their network to connect people, brokerage deals, build and sell businesses, while others hustle with their hands building and producing tangible products. Some Americans want to be left in peace to do as they please - travel to or stay in one place, while not having the feeling of being checked up on. Americans want to be able to provide for themselves and their families without having to be taxed for things they don’t agree to, while other Americans don’t mind contributing to the greater good of society.
Again, what did I come away with from “We are all Americans”? Americans comes from all different walks of life with different values and beliefs. Some Americans are native born, some are foreign born, but the respect that we have for one another, the ability to share cultures & ideas while having the freedom to provide for ourselves & families in our own unique ways makes us American.
Meredith and Manny bought a piece of land in Acampo back in November 2019 with plans of living off the land - and just in the nick of time as the global coronavirus pandemic forced people to go crazy and react in strange (but understandable) ways. The economy shutdown, amusement parks, sporting events and concerts were shutdown, people were told to quarantine, work from home if possible, schools were closed and kids were to learn from home. We were forced to change our daily routine and lifestyles in a quick manner and for some reason, many had to go poop a lot of times. Americans also rekindled their passion for home economics and baked up a storm. My social media feed was pleasantly filled with freshly baked artisan bread, beautiful colors of fruits & vegetables from the garden and even picking up (new) hobbies that they always wanted to focus on. Hope for humanity was on the horizon.
One of those that stuck out on my feed was Meredith’s. I could see her passion for her family and homestead building up. So when I had to travel to California for a wedding, I had to reach out to her and pick up on the opportunity to document Meredith’s passion and her family’s humble homestead. I came out of it learning and inspired more than I expected.
Manny, the owner and operator of Strive Academy, a Jui Jistu gym in Lodi, had to temporarily close under California state orders. So this gave them an opportunity to work on their 5-acre property and build upon their American dream. Waking up at 5:30 in the morning and working until the sun goes down (and even a little past that), there is nothing better than putting in the hard work to provide for yourself, your family and even within the local community. Her sons are eager to help and learn life sustaining skills along the way. Below is a snippet (an evening’s worth) of what Meredith & Manny’s day looks like.
If you’re interested in following along on their homestead journey, find them on Instragram: @yellow_little_homestead. And if you close to Lodi or in the California Central Valley area and want to support their bakery, follow their Instragram account: @amassar.pao. Amassar Pao means “knead the bread” in Portuguese but is strictly a Jui Jitsu term that refers to a chokehold that Meredith is “very fond of”. 😅
After baking some delicious goods, it was time to feed the chickens, feed & milk the goats and collect the bounty from the garden as Manny continued to work on putting up the pasture fence for their cattle and horse. The white chicken are meat chicken that are ready to harvest in 7-9 weeks from birth. The colored hens you’ll see are the egg-laying birds. I could also get into how they’ve made their homestead to be self-sustaining with very little waste, but I’ll keep those secrets to myself or you can reach out to Meredith as inquire for yourself 🙃.
What better way to end an 80 degree Fahrenheit day than to run through the sprinkler before getting ready for bed?
Thank you Meredith & Manny for allowing me into your home and opening up your private lives and to witness a small piece of the hard work you’ve done to provide for your family.
What does being American mean to you? What has this pandemic taught you about yourselves? Let me know in the comment section below!

Second Galaxy, Space Hotel & Creative Emmys
I’m a Nerd and I’m okay, I play all night and I sleep all day, I read science journals, I eat my lunch I ride on the hover train (I wish). Welcome back to another exciting and fun filled episode from those whacky Nerds. First up this week we have a story about China influencing game studios to block any references to protests in Hong Kong. Obviously we weren’t approached, probably because of Buck’s rants. But this is kind of bad as it is enforcing the propaganda of a military regime. So please listen in and then go forth and show support for Hong Kong in its bid for democratic freedom from oppression. Viva la revolution!
Next up we look at news of resorts and hotels being planned for space. That’s right, hotels in orbit! You will be able to play basketball in one if you are so inclined. There is even mention of accommodation available on the ISS for a price, but no airport transfers, sorry. So if you know anyone expecting a return visit from aliens and wanting to avoid those pesky immigration queues then this might be just the ticket.
Then we look at the Emmy awards, particularly the creative side. They took place recently and there are some interesting winners to take a look at. There are the usual suspects that are to be expected, such as Game of Thrones, but also others such as “Age of Sail.” So take a look through the list and see who you like and also if there is something you like and we over looked it.
As always we have the shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, and special events from this week in history. We are planning on being at Supanova again this year, if you are let us know and we will be happy to see you. Until next time stay safe, take care of each other and stay hydrated.

Shoutouts
16 Sept 1959 - The first successful photocopier, the Xerox 914, is introduced in a demonstration at the Sherry-Netherland Hotel in New York, on live television from New York City. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xerox_914
16 Sept 1976 – Armenian champion swimmer Shavarsh Karapetyan saves 20 people from a trolleybus that had fallen into a Yerevan reservoir. While jogging alongside Yerevan Lake with his brother Kamo, also a finswimmer, Karapetyan had just completed his usual distance of 20 km when he heard the sound of a crash and saw a sinking trolleybus which had gone out of control and fallen from a dam wall. The combined effect of cold water and the multiple lacerations from glass shards led to Karapetyan's hospitalization for 45 days, as he developed pneumonia and sepsis. Subsequent lung complications prevented Karapetyan from continuing his sports career. He was awarded the Medal "For the Salvation of the Drowning" and the Order of the Badge of Honor. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shavarsh_Karapetyan
16 Sept 2019 - Fisherman catches ‘alien’ fish with huge bulbous eyes off Norwegian island and ate it. Mr Oscar Lundahl, 19, was fishing for the blue halibut of Andoya in northern Norway, He nearly jumped out of his fishing boat when he saw the bizarre-looking species with bulbous eyes on the end of his line. The specimen is a ratfish, whose Latin name Chimeras Monstrosa Linnaeus is aptly derived from a Greek mythical monster that had the head of a lion and tail of a dragon. The fish — a relative of the shark that dates back 300 million years — live in deep water and are very rarely caught. Not wanting to waste it, he said he took the fish home and fried it up. Despite its ugly appearance, it was delicious. “It is a bit like cod but tastier,” he said. - https://www.news.com.au/technology/science/animals/fisherman-catches-alien-fish-with-huge-bulbous-eyes-off-norwegian-island/news-story/7bee99e9f22dd336031d40692636c008
Remembrances
16 Sept 1736 - Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit, a physicist, inventor, and scientific instrument maker. Fahrenheit was born in Danzig (now Gdańsk, Poland), then a predominantly German-speaking Hanseatic city in the Pomeranian Voivodeship of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, but lived most of his life in the Dutch Republic (1701–1736) and was one of the notable figures in the Golden Age of Dutch science and technology. A pioneer of exact thermometry, he helped lay the foundations for the era of precision thermometry by inventing the mercury-in-glass thermometer (first practical, accurate thermometer) and Fahrenheit scale (first standardized temperature scale to be widely used). In other words, Fahrenheit's inventions ushered in the first revolution in the history of thermometry (branch of physics concerned with methods of temperature measurement). From the early 1710s until the beginnings of the electronic era, mercury-in-glass thermometers were among the most reliable and accurate thermometers ever invented. He died from mercury poisoning at the age of 50 in The Hague - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Gabriel_Fahrenheit
16 Sept 2005 - Gordon Gould, American physicist who is widely, but not universally, credited with the invention of the laser (Others attribute the invention to Theodore Maiman). Gould is best known for his thirty-year fight with the United States Patent and Trademark Office to obtain patents for the laser and related technologies. He also fought with laser manufacturers in court battles to enforce the patents he subsequently did obtain. He died from natural causes at the age of 85 in New York City - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Gould
15 Sept 2019 - Richard Theodore Otcasek known as Ric Ocasek, was an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and painter.
