tuesday again 12/24/2024
pair of portentous tuesdayposts: this one is christmas eve and the next one is new year's eve
trying something new with the reading section, where i list off a bunch of books i bounced off and briefly explain why. let me know if this is interesting, or if it's more interesting when i finish a book i sort of enjoyed and really dissect what didn't work for me like with that annoying evil wizard book a couple weeks ago.
listening
the true champ of the past few weeks has been friends at the table's (an actual play podcast about critical worldbuilding, smart characterization, and fun interaction between good friends) horror/weird west season Sangfielle, and i know i have listened to about sixty hours of it bc i have played about sixty hours of stardew valley. i am currently on ep 49, one before the last finale episode, and it feels like it is wrapping up in a very rushed and weird way? maybe i will feel differently after listening to the six coda episodes wrapping up everyones' characters?
the song of the week is fleet foxesâ white winter hymnal, which is morbidly festive without being strictly christmas-y and is not salting the open emotional wound within my chest that is The Holiday Season. album released 2008. christ im old

reading
the concept of this gag award is EXTREMELY funny to me. i wish the EFF sent them a little physical trophy. perhaps a challenge coin.
bounced off a lot of stuff. the six larger books and the far top right are all from my absolute favorite thrift store with the worst vibes, who regularly has a 8/$1 media sale bc they actually want to be more of a kitchen goods and home decor thrift store and don't really want to constantly be overflowing with records no one buys. yet here they are.
i really do need to find a good indie used bookstore around here that will take books and give me back slightly more in store credit than in cash. bc i would like to fill some missing chunks of trilogies/fill out the star wars shelves a little more. but every time i have gone to half price books i have had an unpleasant time.

lumberjanes/bravest warrior/adventure time were not making me feel nostalgic and in fact made me quite sad instead (more in a memento mori way than in subject matter) so they're going to a friend's kid
glad i looked up Heartthrob (despite the really good premise of woman haunted by her heart donor) on my library's comic app bc the third one seems to mostly take place in a mental hospital which is really never a vibe i want
GRIFTER has art i don't love and a bland storyline about an ex-marine who is the saddest boy in the world and can also detect literal space aliens living among us. no thank you
tangle's game has a close-call near-sexual assault in the first chapter. no thank you! cool dystopic social credit score premise but no thanks!
gil's all fright diner is about the king of vampires and the duke of werewolves but they're hicks. the narrator hates that they're dumb hicks. did not jive with the authorial voice on this one
i bought Two Tickets to Tangiers in high school bc it looked cool and have only cracked it open now, almost fifteen years later. fifteen year old kay did not yet have the context clues from the cover that it would be a very racist travelogue
i need to stop trying agatha christie. i am never going to like agatha christie
-
watching
somehow i have seen the first tinker bell fairies movie three times this week bc that's all my bestie's toddlers want to watch. a really stupidly stacked cast??? how did all these people have free time in 2008???
-
playing

finished the community center in summer 2 of stardew valley (wildly popular and very intense farming sim) and would have finished it in winter 1 if not for the FUCKING pufferfish. i hate fishing minigames and i especially hate the fishing minigame in stardew so i am excited to leave it the fuck alone for a while.

my cauliflower got stupid mchugelarge?? i do not know why they did that. also a meteor fell on my farm and gave me a bunch of really valuable ore, just like real life meteors.

i do kind of regret picking the beach farm bc so much of my day is spent watering, but i am trying to lean harder into animal products and being more of a fun silly flower farm instead of the intense agriculture i find myself doing. i have the greenhouse, i have a small patch of sprinklerable land, i will simply make sure to buy some of every seed each season and if i really need something i will toss it in the greenhouse.
-
making
people are being very gracious about their mediocre colored pencil portraits. most of my gift budget this year was two flat rate boxes to my siblings. silly little pet portraits are very cost effective if you already have art supplies, nice paper, gumption, and very cheap small frames.

One time I was at work at a place that had a copy center, etc. I was making some copies for a little pig faced white lady for her lil' church group event or whatever. Now, I don't remember which church it was, as my city had many, but what I do remember is that it was a white church. I remember because that's important for context of this conversation with this also white customer.
She begins the conversation. I actually am multitasking multiple jobs and didn't intend to talk to her. She was a regular and she knew how this worked. But, she starts this conversation inviting me to the event. I kindly decline, mind you, this was during one of my church phases. Even when I was "in church," city's pretty segregated and the few times I'd been to one of their churches, it wasn't for me.
Then, she tells me that the event is specifically designed to stop abortions. And I'm a different person at the time. I'm a person with poor views on this matter from being youngish and being religiously conditioned + by this time I've had, I believe 2 miscarriages, but I'm not positive.
So, I guess with that, I say either, "Oh, that's nice" or something, idk. And this woman says to me, somebody she only knows from making copies of fliers and ringing her up when done...
"You really should get involved in these efforts. You would not believe how many young Black women are there, denying beautiful Black babies the right to live." And now, I'm done with customer service, because Idek if I replied to her. But, I look at these damn fliers and they are the white saviorest fliers about Black abortion that I have ever seen.
I'm ringing this bitch up, and she's talking about what her church teaches about life before the womb, circa the book of Jeremiah, etc. I say, "Yeah, they teach the Bible in my church too," and I told her the total.
She reaches for her checkbook, and instead of writing the check starts asking ME, the lady from the copy center/cashier/asst manager of a local supplies store, if I have ever been pregnant or if I have kids. I say, since we so cozy and I actually want her uncomfortable, "No kids, just miscarriages." And smile.
Do you know this heffa, without missing a beat, tells me, "More of a reason for you to care about these Black babies!"
I repeat the total. She starts finally writing her check and my manager walks up. Fellow Black woman, and the homie at work. "Tenesha, I need you to go cut soem butcher paper in art supplies." I go.
After the woman leave, Michelle says to me, "Now, I don't know WHAT that woman was saying to you, but I know that look on your face that you had and you looked like you was gettin ready to get her. So, I stepped in."
There really is no message or purpose or nothing of me telling this story. It just popped into my mind. But, for what it's worth, this was a perfectly normal conversation for this person to have. Some white lady at a church that was predominantly white, if not all white, with her save the Black babies from them abortions fliers and chit-chat. With a Black woman at least 20 years younger than her, I'm guessing from looks. Tbh, I can never tell how old they are because they... you know they age differently. And to have this conversation while I, apparently look so disgruntled my manager sent me away from the transaction?
They're just a trip. That's the point, I guess.

Evilâs Theater Productions : LUST ARC
Okay, so Iâll probably getting questions like âWhy are you skipping all the other OSS songs?â I just feel like if the rest were in a stageplay it would be pretty self-explanatory on what would happen for a stageplay. If you have any ideas for the OSS songs, please share them on the OSS post!! Now... Letâs grab our books/mangas/novels and get our headphones on... *Opens some big ass LODV book* Letâs talk about one thing: How will Venomania do... stotheetothex? 1. We canât make the actors do THAT because thatâs very illegal.. 2. We could maybe imply that it happened.... or water it down. Any other options? Share your ideas here. Okay letâs actually get onto the song. One thing for sure, we wont start with the yet, we need to do Venomaniaâs past of course, I think itâs self explanatory on how things will work there... *skips a couple pages f.* So the stage will be dark, purple dim light shows, weâre at the part of the song weâre showing the dead bodies. We see Irina with the Venom Sword (she enters Left stage center btw if people still care about stage directions cause im giving up on them for these are just hcs) and she approaches Venomania, he stabs himself as usual. After he does that, he goes near the audience BUT NOT TO NEAR (downstage for stage direction ppl) and says his lines.... âSaa, odorou ka?â and he extends his hands out to the audience. The music starts, AND WE GET A WHOLE DAMN PREVIEW OF THE HAREM. Since this is a concert time thing rn.. no weâre not getting to chase down 18 girls, their just there. As Venomania starts singing the first lines, we see Lukana and she runs up to Venomania and kinda hugs him ig ??? IDK HOW TO DESCRIBE JUST WATCH THE MV. When he says â This power I obtained by a contract, with a forbidden demon. â we get to see a screen that shows Irina giving him the katana and Venomania opening it. Venomania does his little (nahh why am i saying little??) lust spell on Lukana when he says â All of the woman who see my eyes, fall into a charm. â I GUESS QUICKLY WE COULD SEE LUKANA CHANGE INTO HER HAREM OUTFIT... LIKE THOSE DRESSES THAT TRANSFORM AND THEYâRE SUPER COOL BUT ANYWAY-- Lukana and Mikulia sings their parts ig.. idk what to do here. Skipping the chorus cause itâs self explanatory.. and DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO ABOUT THAT. When Venomania says, âWhen the clothes come off and we embrace, we can never again return to reality.â WE SEE A BIG, GIANT, ASS SCROLL THAT THE ENTIRE AUDIENCE CAN SEE. It shows the missing woman as we see the set-up for the next verse. We see an old portrait burning and all the girls are present and yk what the lyrics say... he smooches Gumina (I ALMSOT SPELLED GUMILLIA SOMEONE KILL ME) Gumina and Maylis do their part... rest is self explanatory.. and we see another giant scroll with more missing girls. While the epic piano solo is playing, we see Karchess getting ready to go beat some ass and yk heâs like âim get my wife back from the girlfriend stealerâ once again he wont say that..we know what happens. Yk what happens this time Karchess goes up to Venomania and heâs like âHEYYY *smirks and blushes like an uwu girls* and then he stabs Venomania... During this stageplay, we know what happens, but I want it to be like nobody knows, SO WE GOTTA MAKE SURE WE CANâT SEE KARCHESS STABBING VENOMANIA. Thereâs blood now as you know, but Venomania aint collapsing yet, we need Karchess to sing his part. When Karchess sings âAnd thrust into the demon a dagger from his breast pocket.â the lights can glow green for a second cause thatâs a wrath vessel. VENOMANIA COLLASPES, AND HEâS LIKE âASFHISHIGHVDIUIFJIOHUAS NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!! MY ART! DIOHGHAGIUHDFOPGHIU!â (once again he wonât say that im being silly) and we see the blood changing to purple. The woman are running away and stuff like that. For a second the music stops, we get to hear Venomania actually scream with all his emotion!! âAh. . . Gumina... Wait! Wait!â (more silence as Gumina turns around, as two spotlights focuses on the two) âI havenât yet told you I love you!â, and Gumina runs away. - The Potrait that Glassred Drew - Gumina is holding a canvas, itâs torn, and burnt. She says the lines... âIf only you hadnât changed.â Thereâs another canvas on an aisle, and sheâs painting as sheâs singing. Sheâs painting Cherubim. As we get to the chorus, more paintings show. Itâs her memories, her memories of Cherubim and Sateriasis when they were children, all having fun, all playing. Second verse âThat burnt protrait. You said âI hate that face.â I really donât know what to do as Iâm listening to the song, so please share your ideas. As we get to the part âItâs not that changing is bad.â, I want her to face the audience. She continues to paint Cherubim. At the last chorus... She shows the painting to the audience... and the curtain closes. *Rips off headphones and closes the book.* I sobbed listening to The Portrait that Glassred Drew. Iâm not doing Flower of Plateau because I just want to move on with this so if you have ideas for that one send them please (not forced). Also my brother--Nana likes Mikulia Calaground now so... yeah.

20Â Best Steamy Romance Films to Get You Hot and Mood

Why we love steamy romance movies
You don't even have to be in a relationship to enjoy steamy romance films. Sure, they can help you create a sexy atmosphere on a date. Even if you're single, watching a few sexy scenes has numerous advantages. These films can set the mood, help you release tension, or serve as a warm-up for your own steamy romance. So there you have it: a few reasons why we enjoy steamy romance films.
Our favorite steamy romance movies
Action films, horror films, and chick flicks are all enjoyable to watch. However, there are times when you need to spice up your movie night. Check out our list of the best steamy romance movies if you're looking for something steamy to watch alone or with your partner. 1. Nymphomaniac: Volume I and II (2013)
20 Best Steamy Romance Films to Get You Hot and Mood Lars Von Trier has to be included on this list of steamy romance films. The Nymphomaniac films tell the story of a sex addict and the trials and tribulations she faces throughout her life. Each film is over two hours long, but it's well worth it. The movies go into great detail about the character and what drives her to do what she does. Is there nudity present? Yes. Do you have any squirming moments? Yes. It has it all, including some spanking. 2. Blue Is the Warmest Color (2013)

This French film follows a teenage girl as she explores her sexuality with a blue-haired art student. It's a passionate love story with an extra layer of passion because it's a French film! You won't be able to stop watching once you hit play. So, if you have any plans, you should cancel them because this film is over three hours long. The sexual and passionate scenes are intense. And there's a lot of naughtiness, so don't watch this with your parents. It will not be enjoyable for you or them. 3. I Am Love (2009)

20 Best Steamy Romance Films to Get You Hot and Mood How can sex and drama not go together? Some people think Tilda Swinton looks like an alien, but she plays a sex kitten in this film. Furthermore, the director is Luca Guadagnino, who also directed another of our favorites, Call Me By Your Name. Swinton portrays the Russian-born matriarch of a wealthy Italian family who is having an affair with their chef. Unfortunately, the affair threatens to devastate her life as she knows it... Dun dun duuuuuuuun. 4. Y Tu Mana Tambien (2001)

What happens when two young adolescent boys and a 28-year-old married woman go on a road trip together? You'll have to watch this steamy romance film to find out. This film contains everything you're probably thinking about. Best of all, it is also directed by Alfonso Cuaron. If you're unfamiliar with his work, he directed Children of Men and Gravity, so you know it'll be good. 5. Fatal Attraction (1987)

20 Best Steamy Romance Films to Get You Hot and Mood The plot is as follows: a man has an affair with a woman; the man wants the affair to end, but the woman does not. Then she loses her mind. This is a classic plot, but Fatal Attraction is the first film to try it. It's hot, passionate, and naughty. It's the ultimate steamy love story! Because it's the 1980s, they all have crazy hairdos. 6. Gloria (2013)

20 Best Steamy Romance Films to Get You Hot and Mood There aren't many steamy romance films centered on middle-aged people... It's always about young, attractive people. But you'll be pleasantly surprised in this case: it's about older hot people. This Chilean film tells the story of a divorced middle-aged woman who goes to singles' dance clubs in search of love. Will she find love? Without a doubt. Is it accompanied by its own drama? How could it be otherwise? 7. Basic Instinct (1992)

Sharon Stone was born as a result of this film. It was primarily *that* interrogation scene that turned her into the sex symbol she is today. Stone's character, a crime novelist, becomes a suspect in a rock star's death. Then she seduces the homicide detective into a passionate affair. Of course, this is a common situation that I'm sure we've all encountered. Anyway, just keep an eye on it. You can't go wrong by watching this film. 8. Dirty Dancing (1987)

Something about Patrick Swayze will always be appealing. We believe it is the arms. Anyway, this film turned Patrick into a sex symbol. Plus, have you seen his dancing skills? That is one elegant man. It's quite steamy. For example, the way he lifts her... Mmmm⊠Oh, yes, the film. A wealthy family goes on vacation to a resort in this steamy romance film. Baby, played by Jennifer Grey, develops feelings for Johnny, aka Patrick Swayze, the dance instructor. You've got the wheels turning now. 9. Cruel Intentions (1999)

Reese Witherspoon, oh, Reese Witherspoon. Reese, Innocent. This steamy romance film is about two super-rich step-siblings, Kathryn and Sebastian, who make a cruel bet that Sebastian can take naive Annette *Witherspoonvirginity. *'s As you might expect, the challenge was accepted! Ryan Phillippe plays her on-screen boyfriend. And since we all know they married in real life, you can imagine how intense the scenes between them are. 10. Young & Beautiful (2013)

This film is about a teenage girl who is experimenting with her sexuality by working as a prostitute in secret. It's intriguing to see what's hidden behind her innocent expression. Is she keeping it a secret from her friends and family? Yes. So you can imagine the buildup in this movie. It's intense and extremely steamy. Sure, there are subtitles â but don't start sighing just yet! Reading is wonderful, and believe us when we say that this film is well worth your time. 11. Boogie Nights (1997)
This steamy romance film was released when Marky Mark was just breaking into the spotlight. Mark Wahlberg plays a young man in his 70s who gets into the porn industry. The film contains a prosthetic penis, but you can pretend it's the real thing. That's exactly what we didâit allows you to sleep better at night. You're half right if you think Boogie Nights is all about glitz. However, it also shows the dark side of the porn industry. 12. Sleeping Beauty (2011)

We're not talking about the Disney film! A young college student becomes a niche sex worker for a high-end brothel where customers pay to touch her while she sleeps in this erotic thriller. Doesn't sound creepy, does it? It's an odd film, but it's a lot of fun to watch. Emily Browning does an excellent job, despite the fact that she is naked for the majority of the film. Which, to her credit, takes balls â figuratively speaking. 13. Fifty Shades of Grey (2015)

How could this film not be included? This is the epitome of a steamy romance film, and there are several sequels to enjoy once you've finished. This is the adult version of a dark, brooding guy who falls for a simple yet unique lady, based on books that were originally Twilight fanfiction. Instead of vampires and werewolves, you get BDSM, stalkers, and revenge, which raises the PG-13 rating to R. 14. Call Me By Your Name (2017)

The beauty of the Italian countryside, the romance, the '80s fashion... Everything is stunning. The budding romance between a seventeen-year-old student and his older lover is beautifully depicted by Italian director Luca Guadagnino. Timothee Chalamet's character discovers his true erotic self while falling in love with his father's research assistant over an unforgettable summer. However, you might not feel the same way about peaches after this one. 15. Out of Sight (1998)

Jack Foley, played by the dashing George Clooney, is the country's most successful bank robber. However, after escaping from prison, he meets Karen Sisco, played by Jennifer Lopez. She is everything he desires in a woman, but she is also a federal marshal. They must make a decision between their jobs, the law, and their romance. Isn't it a difficult decision? Especially if your girlfriend is Jennifer Lopez! 16. Unfaithful (2002)

Richard Gere and Diane Lane play a married couple in this erotic thriller. However, things are not as rosy as they appear. Soon after, Gere's character discovers that his wife has been lying about having an affair! He confronts her lover instead of fighting, counseling, or other methods. From there, the rage he feels is unlike anything he's ever felt before. If you've ever been wronged in love, this steamy romance film will hit close to home. 17. Titanic (1997)
This one is a classic among classics. It has everything you could want in a film, especially a hot and steamy romance. During their voyage on the Titanic, Jack and Rose fall in love across class lines and share an unforgettable romance. But, as we all know, there's an iceberg in the way of their happily ever after. 18. How Stella Got Her Groove Back (1998)

Stella is a stockbroker who has had a bad love life. When her friend, Whoopi Goldberg, whisks her away to Jamaica, she has a sexy fling with a younger man. However, by the end of her vacation, she realizes she may have gotten more than she bargained for. Can their relationship survive their age gap and geographical distance? 19. The Girl Next Door (2004)

Emile Hirsch's character, high school senior Matthew Kidman, is an overachiever to the point of boredom. Then his mundane life is turned upside down when he falls in love with his new neighbor. When he discovers she is a pornstar, his fantasies about her spiral out of control. But his feelings are intense. His sheltered life pales in comparison to the love and adventure he can find with the girl next door. At one point, they even make their own sex tape! 20. Blue Valentine (2010)

This understated romance stars Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams. They play a couple who appear to live a simple life. However, as you watch, you can see their relationship deteriorate. What appeared to have so much potential has been ruined by day-to-day problems. Don't be fooled by the fact that this appears to be a regular relationship. For his performance, Gosling was nominated for a Golden Globe, while Michelle Williams narrowly missed out on the Oscar for Best Actress. As a result, expect some sizzling hot performances in this one. Â Read the full article

Salvation Part 2

Sukuna had come back to be repaid for what he did for you, his original plan of terrorizing you went down the drain as he stared at a different girl from what he left and the way his heart and mind remained puzzled because of you.
Pairing: Sukuna x Reader
Word Count: 2.3 k
Part 1
Part 3: coming soon⊠September 19
(A/N: Part 2 everyone! I hope you guys like this :)
Warnings: Mentions of fighting and some blood.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
You heard stories as you started life with the newfound skills Sukuna helped you develop. The stories were enough to make adults shiver in fear, enough for them to offer their souls. But you laughed at them. Because you knew nothing, not even their soul would stop Sukuna from annihilating them if he felt like it. He didnât need a reason. The stories of him burning down villages and torturing the inhabitants of said villages were most likely true. You heard a lot of villages began worshipping him out of their fear. It was foolish you thought, Heâs just a man.
You may have not been the fittest back then, but you were one of the smartest. You knew he left you when you were 5 because he did want to kill you- but only when you were begging for your life. He wanted to enjoy the pain heâd bring upon you. But if he still wanted that he could have killed you when you were learning from him. You were happy and trusted him, and what hurts more than someone breaking your trust?
He did not want to kill you now either. You knew that. If he did, he would have done it long ago.
So you stared at him, right in his eyes as he looked down at you. Not bothering to pay attention to the other people around him, they were like maggots to him after all.
After he had left you, you lived in the same cottage and fended for yourself. It was not difficult for you to do. But eventually the meat you hunted, berries you picked and plants you harvested would start to spoil. It was too much for a young teenager so you started sharing them with the fellow orphans from your village. But after being with you, they wanted to learn how to fend for themselves too. And you taught them what he had taught you.
Eventually you had become quite popular in the village, and even the nobleman would send their children to you for martial arts lessons. Your students were skilled enough to go to the competitions held in bigger cities where people from all over the country would come to see. And your students won often.
But after 7 years of this you were bored. So when you spotted the peculiar man from your childhood during a martial arts competition your body could only bubble up with excitement inside.
The host man announced the winner and Sukuna smirked as he saw it was one of your pupils. Your name had become known since you were the first female teacher, let alone a female teacher with such a high success rate. The stories he had heard of you made his chest swell with pride⊠Because I was the one who taught the brat heâd tell himself at the strange feeling. He looked down and noted how much you had grown, from a scrawny preteen to a beautiful woman. Your old tattered clothes were replaced with a silk robe- a very suggestive robe with a deep neckline and the hem at the bottom just barely touching the top of your ankles. So that when you walked your lower leg would be in clear view of ongoing lookers. He knew you wore the cheeky robe on purpose, you loved the attention you got from all the gasps and looks of distaste from other females. What a lecherous woman.
As you walked over to congratulate your student, he swooped down onto the center of the stadium. Chuckling as he heard the gasps from the audience, his four arms stretched out, claws protruded, ready to attack. The sunâs rays made him appear like an ethereal being that demanded attention.
âItâs time you repaid me brat.â
The crowd went crazy, everyone running out, looking for a place to hide as fast as their legs could take them. But his focus was just on you. Your student is long gone, leaving you alone. You never taught them about loyalty so it didnât matter.
âHow can I do that?â you asked tilting your head, you spoke with such calmness it made Sukuna question if you knew who and what he was.
âBy coming with me, as my servantâ
âSureâ you said nonchalantly. Life was boring, he had come to save you again⊠from a mundane life. But nonetheless saved you even if it was not from an immediate danger. You did not feel any sympathy for your village, the label of a traitor did not bother you. The village betrayed you first by not batting an eye or offering you any form of help during your time of need. You owed Sukuna a lot, and you were not scared of him, just extremely grateful.
âWomen I am taking you with meâ He repeated again, slightly deadpanning. Could your pathetic human ears not hear his majestic voice? He brought down a hand and the seating of the studium tumbled down as his power slashed it. The rubble flying everywhere as debris and sand made your sight hazy.
âAnd I said yesâ you spoke and walked towards him, stopping a few inches away where you grabbed one his arms, pulled it down and pressed his claws to the exposed skin right above your heart âYou canât kill meâ you said answering the question he had not asked yet.
His arm stayed still in the girlâs hand as he looked at her curiously. When he felt you push his claws further onto your skin, enough that blood started seeping from the puncture wounds his nails created he realized it. He really could not kill you. You saw him not as a monster that terrorized innocent people in villages for his pure joy, but as a powerful man who saved you and gave you a life with purpose. You were the first acting out of love rather than fear.
The dust had cleared and the sun had become visible once again. The hot rays burning the back of his neck, it would surely burn you too if he was not standing two and a half feet taller than you, shading you from it.
âVery well then womenâ
--
âSukuna-sama Iâve washed and hung your clothes to dry and have cleaned your quartersâ he heard you say. He looked back at you from training, your cheeky robe now traded to more modest apparel. A yukata that would not expose your ankles or your chest, in fact the fabric would sometimes drag on the floor and the neckline was almost choking you. You hated it, but that was all the more reason for him to make you wear it.
It had been about 2 weeks since he âkidnapped youâ, he called it but youd respond saying you went willingly- which was the truer of the two stories. Cleaning and cooking and doing the basic servant duties. Normally youâd hate this more than your previous lifestyle, but with Sukuna-sama there was always some excitement. Mostly watching him have trouble with the most basic things and yelling out to you to âfix the messâ in disguise of needing help.
He grunted in response but noticed you settling down, back resting against a tree trunk and you sat in the soft grass he had not wrecked yet. âWoman, have you finished everything?â
âYes Sukuna-samaâ perplexed he brainstormed for another task he could give you but came up with none on the spot.
âSpar with me.â
âWhat?â You looked up, mouth open as you stared at him. Had you heard him correct?
âI should not have to repeat my words for my servant to do as she is asked.â
Oh.
You stood up hesitantly and walked up in front of him, standing face to face as you took your position. He on the other hand lifted one set of hands so his head could lean back at them, the other lazily at his sides.
You ran up to him, getting ready to punch him, which he stopped with one hand grabbing your fist, so you took it as an opportunity to kick him. But this outfit made it very difficult for you to do as you were thrown to the ground.
âHave you grown weaker?â he mocked. This time with more fire in your body you stood up, ripping the bottom of the dress off, exposing your knees. And you ran forward again, now with more mobility.
What theâŠ. He stared at your exposed legs as you ran, he was distracted allowing you to land a harsh kick at his side making him stumble and fall.
An even score, 1-1.
Dumbfounded he looked up at you, you smirked but deep down you were just as surprised as he was.
âBratâ he mumbled, standing up, stretching his limbs. âOne more timeâ he smirked at you before charging at you with speed. It caught you off guard and you only recovered a second before his right fist came right down at you, giving you just enough time to block it with your forearm, pushing his hand to the side. His left hand was already moving, but you were too and you blocked it again. He was fast and you knew he was not at his full speed, he jumped clasping his other set of hands together as he brought them down on you but you dodged again, jumping back creating a gap of a few meters between you two. You ran to him your fist ready to make contact against his smug face, but he caught your fist and swung you around before throwing you against some trees, the force breaking the tree as you went flying into the trees behind it, each tree falling as your back crashed into them, finally stopping as the force faded.
âUghhh what was that...'' you groaned trying to move, but your back was in too much pain, and you felt like the bones in your body had all changed places and were swimming around in whatever blood was left in you. In your clouded vision you saw him approach you, tsking and sitting down on a fallen trunk.
This move was different, you knew that much. More powerful? But how and why?
âThat had cursed energy in it,â he simply said.
âCursed energy? Whatâs that?â you asked confused, your brows furrowing up. âLike curses?â you had heard about those but only thought of them as wive tales.
âCurses are apparitions made from cursed energyâ he said, watching carefully as your eyes lit up with curiosity. âThe energy is a manifestation of negative emotionsâ
You nodded pretending to understand what he was going on about.
âTsk let me show you womenâ he said.
This marked the next part of your training from him, he taught you how to manipulate your own cursed energy to the point you could also see these apparitions and use it to your advantage.
And you grew stronger than ever before, much to his delight.
--
Throughout the time spent with you, Sukuna began growing fond of you, he enjoyed your presence. To the point he rushed through his usual escapades of terrorizing the lives of people. Heâd perk up watching you look through the many offerings he received, picking through them and smiling in excitement when something caught your eye and youâd beg him to let you have it.
âYou seem deep in thought?â your soft voice asked from across the room, you were sitting on a floor cushion, mending one of his robes using a needle and thread. It was getting late, the sun was setting and the colors spilled into the room, lighting you up in itâs warmth. You looked ethereal, he thought, taking in the sight of you. You were humming quietly, your eyes focused on the needle, your hands holding the soft fabric of the robe you had picked out for him, your legs tucked underneath you towards the side, the skirt of your dress riding up to reveal your legs. His eye twitched.
âWhen did I allow you to wear such skanky clothes?â
âSukuna-sama it's just so much easier to move in theseâ you argued. He scoffed looking away, but looking at you through the corner of his eye.
âYouâre nice to be around womenâ he grunted.
âSorry, what?â you lowered your head, hair spilling over your face to hide your grin.
âIâll cut your useless ears off myself once youâre done with my robe.â he tried saying, but he couldnât lie to you. As he opened his mouth to attempt to say it again he felt the futon dip as you sat near him, placing his finished robe to the side.
âAre you saying you like me?â
âIf I didnât like you I would have killed you and smeared your blood all over the filthy village you came fromâ
âSo you do like me.â How annoying he thought
âWhy must I always repeat myself around you, I should just slash you up right nowâ he says as he lifts his finger, expecting you to dodge it but you sit there not defending yourself as his power cuts through the cloth and flesh over your shoulder, you just grinned up at him. You were so troublesome, getting hurt for his attention. Leaving the room he came back with water, a cloth and some gauze. As he sat down to clean the wound he inflicted you laid your head in his lap, legs sprawled out as he cleaned the wound.
âHeyâ you whispered, lifting your hand up and caressing his jaw with gentle fingers âI like you tooâ.
âI didnât askâ

@lemonisinplay continues to bless me with her BRILLIANT thoughts on Jon's Creeping Terror Fun Fact Corner! if i'd known this was gonna become a Thing, i'd have given it a shorter name lololol. She cheerfully pointed out that these kids shows sometimes have an activity section where you can make arts and crafts right in your own home! And who better to lead an arts and crafts segment than the woman who made an accurate map of the distortion?
--
[Scene opens to a dim room. at the center of the shot, a large table covered in files, books, and scattered sheets of paper. An old woman sits in a chair that should dwarf her but seems instead too small to fit her stern expression and perfect posture. Jon stands next to her, eyes flickering from one messily shuffled file to another. His hands are fidgeting, as if he's restraining himself from righting the nearest precarious pile of books. The corner of his mouth flinches down into a scowl before forcing a very false grin]
Jon: It's time for everyone's favorite segment, Get Crafty with Gertrude! Pay close attention, children, so you can tell me what you learned from Gertrude later!
[He stomps off set, muttering something about organization and the value of a clean work space, and for god's sake isn't there a sensible reference system she could be using?? Gertrude's expression does not change but there is a vague air of amusement for a split second before her stern gaze turns back to the camera.]
Gertrude: welcome once again children. do you ever feel like you're being watched? Perhaps you are playing with your toys and you notice out of the corner of your eye the character on the cover of your favorite story book are staring straight at you? Or perhaps you're in your living room with all the family photos on the wall and the eyes of the people you love seem to follow you around the room no matter where you go? But of course, you say to yourself, it's just a book, a photo; it's a coincidence, a trick of the light, that makes you think that
[a quiet ominous pause. the lighting seems to change, throwing her features in stark contrast.]
Gertrude, voice low: This is untrue. Do not lie to yourself. Lies can get you killed. Remember, they are always watching.
[another pause, heavy and thick. then the lighting brightens somewhat. gertrude's features no longer carry the threatening aura displayed moments ago.]
Gertrude: But we can fix that! for today's activity, you'll need a cutting mat, an x-acto knife, and very steady hands [she chuckles]. Pick out a book or picture that has eyes on it. We are going to learn how to remove them so they won't see what you do when you think no one is watching.
[Gertrude pulls out a photo to demonstrate. It features a man with a patronizing smile and eyes that don't quite mesh with the rest of his face. The camera zooms in to focus on her hands as she positions the photo on the cutting mat]
Gertrude, whipping out a knife: Now, you must be sure your knife is as sharp as possible so that--
[an interruption off scene. it sounds like martin but the insistent whispers are hard to make out. Gertrude seems to hear them fine and frowns.]
Gertrude: That's not practical. Adults are not always around and getting rid of all-seeing eyes is significantly more urgent.
[the insistent whispers continue. Gertrude's frown turns into a scowl to rival Jon's.]
Gertrude: If the children can't handle an x-acto knife on their own, they will likely not survive one of the entities and this segment won't matter.
[the whispers get sharp and rise in pitch. Gertrude glares for a moment before heaving a very put-upon sigh.]
Gertrude: For legal reasons, I must ask that you only do this when you have a parent or trusted adult nearby to supervise. I suppose as long as you're within hearing distance, it's fine. if you cut off a finger, they'll be able to hear you scream and come to your aid. although I hardly think losing a pinky is cause for that much concern so long as you staunch the bleeding.
[A muffled shout of frustration is heard. "You completely invalidated the statement!! Safety is important, why does no one understand that safety is important??" It is definitely Martin.]
--
Bonus behind the scenes content
[Jon and Gertrude are arguing vehemently about how to best keep an archive neat. Gertrude maintains an aloof air while Jon steadily gets louder and more irate.
[One of the studio's alley cats roams in and both Gertrude and Jon stop their conversation to simultaneously attempt to pet the cat. Jon throws a surprised glance at Gertrude, who remains cool and collected even as she strokes the cat.]
Jon, shyly: ...you like cats? [his gaze is firmly on the gray tabby as he rubs his knuckles under the cat's chin]
Gertrude, matter of factly: Yes. I heard you Beheld some delinquents who were harassing the Commodore here.
Jon: I did. The Commodore and the others don't deserve that sort of treatment. They've done nothing wrong ever in their lives.
Gertrude: yes, i Know. That's why i love them. I can excuse killing archival assistants but I draw the line at hurting the cats.
Jon, enthused: Yes, cats really are amazing creatures and--wait. you can excuse killing archival assistants??
[the tension ratchets back up. the Commodore senses this and stalks out as jon and gertrude have a stare down, still crouched where they had been petting the cat. Glowing green eyes suddenly blink open to halo Jon's head. Gertrude's own eyes narrow, mouth a firm line.]
Jon, voice deep with power: Ceaseless Watcher, see this unworthy servant--
Gertrude, voice like granite: Young man, don't you dare--
[The compulsion in her words makes Jon stutter but does not stop him. The room starts to tremble beneath the pressure of the sudden power spike between the two avatars]
Stagehand 1: *expletive* not again. we just rebuilt the set!
Stagehand 2: Someone get Martin in here now. And bring Gerry's book!
Stagehand 1: And maybe one of the cats.
[Several members of the team scurry to carry out orders, panic clear on their faces. The last thing we see is Martin skidding into the scene, hurriedly reading from a tome and a ghostly outline starting to emanate from it. Scene cuts to black.]

<- previous part
The museum felt so dull and empty without Seonghwaâs works in them. It had been months and you had yet to see one new work from the artist.
You knew you shouldâve moved on by now, especially due to your photography career soaring.
Everything was going perfectly. Everything but your love life.
Wooyoung was now just your friend and the person you thought was your soulmate was no where to be found.
The more you thought about it, the more you realized you missed Seonghwaâs touch and the spark it brought to your skin more than the color of his eyes. You just missed him.
Now, you were realizing that maybe colors werenât as essential as you thought.
The auction had started hours ago in that same museum, your photographs up for sale among many art pieces. You had been struggling so much after your soulmateâs disappearance that your rent was way past due and the only option was to sell your work.
And what shocked you the most was that your old photographs were selling much faster than your new ones. The old ones that were entirely in black and white.
As you looked at them, truly analyzing everything about them, you realized why. Those photographs were candid, an ethereal way of showing your pain.
While they were dull to you, they told a narrative to everyone else.
âSo, can you pay your bills now?â, a smile spread across your lips when you heard the familiar voice, turning around to see Wooyoung standing there.
He looked good. A suit on to hug his curves and his soulmate clinging to his arm. They really were perfect for each other.
Basically, the story of the two was that they were tied to one another by red strings and they had found each other while you were with Seonghwa.
It made you sorrowful when you realized that meant Wooyoung had known the entire time you werenât meant to be together, but those feelings quickly disappeared when you saw how happy he was.
âYeah, I might even have some money leftover for groceriesâ, you grinned and Wooyoung shook his head, patting yourâs as he stared at the final photograph you had left after the auction was over.
It was your most recent work and you knew it was probably too dispirited to catch anyoneâs attention. Yet, you still brought it with you. The meaning of the photograph was too important to not bring it along with you.
In the photograph, you were there with your back to the camera surrounded by items that you believe represented how heartbreak felt. The light of the sun was shining through the window on your curled up form and it looked awfully dull the more you looked at it.
A loveless life is dull.
âBuy yourself a nice meal then. Wait, get a good meal and then travel. Youâve been in Seoul your whole life. Maybe itâs time to get out of here for a whileâ, you had actually given that some thought. What was even keeping you here? Was it the idea that maybe youâd get Seonghwa back?
âIâll plan a trip to Jeju soon. Iâve always wanted to take photos of the ocean thereâ, Wooyoung grinned from your words, thinking you were finally moving on with your life. The trip was more of a distraction than anything else, but it wasnât entirely a lie. You had always wanted to take photos there.
âWant help getting the most affordable tickets? I know a guyâ, there was that business man you had dated before. Wooyoung traveled all the time so of course he could find the most affordable pricing.
âNo, Iâm going to do this on my own. Thank you though. Iâll see both of you again soonâ, the woman and Wooyoung nodded, giving you a small wave as you moved to leave the museum, your photo tucked in your bag to keep it safe.
However, something caught your eye and had you rooted to the floor.
There, hidden behind some of the tarps for the auction was a new painting. One with the initials PS on it.
You quickly moved to take a look, noticing quickly the familiar beauty and chaos that was your soulmateâs art style. In the center there was a girl and you immediately knew it was you.
Holding up your photo, it was almost an exact replica. The only distinct difference was that Seonghwaâs painting had hope in it. It was just another painting to everyone else, but you realized quickly that the tiny painting painted on the wall in the art was the one you made together.
Except, it seemed glued together. Like it had been ripped to spreads only to be put back together like a puzzle.
âOh, Seonghwa. Iâm so sorryâ, before you could stop yourself, your fingers were tracing the painting, memorizing every edge. It was so despairing aside from that glued painting.
You snapped out of it and forced yourself to leave, slipping your photo back into your bag as you tried to contain your tears.
The walk to your apartment wasnât a long one. You had purposely chosen one close to that museum because you knew that was where you belonged.
You opened the door, greeted by Bruce, your tiny Pomeranian you had been given. Wooyoungâs soulmate believed he was the key to getting over your loneliness and, while you loved the black and white fluffy dog, you werenât exactly sure if that was true.
He barked and you crouched down to pet his head, watching as he smiled and tilted his head just so you could scratch the perfect spot. A laugh fell from your lips as you moved to sit down on your bed, setting up your computer on your lap.
âWant to go to Jeju with me?â, Bruce just barked and you took that as a definite yes.
Your plane had landed a few hours ago and you had quickly found your way to the beach once all of your belongings were in the hotel you were staying in.
Bruce walked beside you as the wind blew through your hair, the sound of the waves filling your ears.
As you approached the middle of the beach, you saw a man painting along the shoreline. His brush moved in quick strokes along the canvas as he stared out at the ocean.
It made you smile seeing someone else so deeply into art here.
Then, you realized why he had chosen this spot to paint.
The sun was setting and it was right at the spot the artist was looking at. The vast array of colors was right above the ocean.
You instinctively got out your camera and took a photo of it. You looked at the shot to see that you had accidentally gotten the artist in it and, while it did add some depth, you refused to take photos of others without permission.
As your finger hovered over the delete button, you felt eyes on you. You looked up to see the artist staring at you, your world suddenly going grey.
âSeonghwa?â, the name felt paradoxical. It was filled with sadness but also happiness.
The manâs eyes found yourâs and both of your worlds were colorless.
Bruce tugged on the leash, snapping you out of whatever trance you were in.
âI missed youâ, his voice croaked, tears welling up in his eyes as he looked you over. While he couldnât see the color of your skin or the rosiness of your cheeks, he could tell you were doing well. You were healthy and that was all that mattered.
âSorryâ, it was all you could get out from the emotions clouding your thoughts. You turned to walk away, gripping the leash in your hand tighter as you tried to quickly get away.
You yelped when Bruce started running back, pulling you along with him until you were standing so unbearably close to Seonghwa. Your chest was almost touching his as your dog rubbed against his leg.
âWhy are you trying to run again?â, you looked down at the sand below you. Seonghwa could finally see you in all your glory as the colors came back since you werenât looking.
The only thing he couldnât do was look into your eyes. Thatâs what he wanted most.
âIâm tired of running so I get itâs cowardly, but I donât know what else to do. Iâm just so confusedâ, you spoke honestly and looked up, trying to be brave and finally face your problems. Especially when the main one was right in front of you.
âI think I found some answers. Iâm going to assume you saw my paintingâ, of course he would know you did. His painting flooded your head and you were thankful you took the time to memorize all its bold features.
âI did. Our painting?â, it felt wrong to say our in reference to the painting you two made while you were in love. It wasnât like it was in your studio.
âDo you know why I glued it back together?â, you searched his eyes for an answer other than hope but you could not find one.
âHope?â, Seonghwa chuckled and put his hands gently on your shoulders, looking for any sign that he should remove them before he continued.
âMore than that, I found answers. It was a test. A test we sadly failed at first, but maybe thereâs hope to pass it nowâ, Seonghwa bent over and picked up Bruce to keep him calm, petting the puppyâs head as he waited for your response.
âWhat test?â, the artist smiled and your heart swelled at how hopeful it was. He really wanted this to work.
âItâs a rare test that some people with our connection have to go through. We have to look past the outside and into the inside. Basically, we have to keep loving without the colorsâ, it seemed so simple coming from the manâs mouth. He seemed so excited and, yet, you couldnât stop thinking about the ifs.
âWill we be able to see colors again? I donât want to take that from youâ, it was true. You could make it without them because your black and white photos sold faster than your colored ones but Seonghwa needed those colors in his paintings. He needed those brilliant shades in his work.
âSome got it back and others didnât, but I can do without them as long as youâll look at meâ, his voice dripped with aggressive honesty, no room for argument on your side. You nodded as you let the information seep into your mind.
âLetâs start with thisâ, he pointed at Bruce and the dog licked his cheek, making you giggle. Seonghwa grinned when he heard the noise. He may have missed that most of all.
âThatâs my son Bruce. My friend gave him to meâ, you pat the dogâs head and Seonghwa nodded, stroking the puppyâs back before he set him back down on the sand.
âTry painting?â, the question made your head spin as you looked over at the easel, shaking your head immediately.
âIâm definitely not a painter. That looks way too good to ruinâ, Seonghwa shook his head and took your free hand in his, walking you towards the place his art supplies were. There it was, that spark that went through you when you touched.
âIf I do this then I get to teach you how to take a proper photoâ, you put your pinky out and his hearty laugh made your cheeks turn redder, not that he could tell.
âDealâ, his pinky wrapped around your own and that was a promise made. The first of many.
âOkay, pick up a brush and letâs startâ, you looked down at the many brushes along the bottom of the easel and you just grabbed one. You have never painted before and it really showed.
âMaybe not the biggest one I haveâ, he chuckled and took the big brush out of your hand, getting a much smaller one and putting it into your hand.
âOkay, lets try to paint around the sunâ, Seonghwa gestured first to the painted sun he made and then the real one across the ocean. He purposely looked away so you could see the colors, forcing himself to keep his eyes off of you.
You collected a little bit of the lavender-tinted paint on his palette and started to paint. Seonghwa looked over at the canvas and chuckled, watching how messy you were making it.
âLike thisâ, he came up behind you and his big hand encased yourâs, guiding you to smooth out the paint. His chest was pressed against your back and the last time you two painted together came back, causing your hand to shake a little nervously.
âYouâre doing well. Donât be nervousâ, Seonghwa smiled and you shouldâve known he wouldâve thought your shakiness was because of the painting. Well, it was but not this specific painting.
âOkay, do we move onto the next color now?â, the man answered with a simple âyesâ and he let go of you. While he enjoyed being so close to you, he did want to see you do it yourself.
You did exactly what Seonghwa had done before but with orange this time, the color reminding you of a tangerine as your brush moved across the canvas.
âItâs simple when you get used to itâ, that comment made you laugh, turning to look at the man.
âSeonghwa... this is a sunset. The shit you paint is much more complexâ, you shook your head and went back to painting despite the lack of color now there. He was staring at you.
âDid we go too fast? Is that why this happened?â, your eyebrows furrowed as you thought about it. You two really did go fast. As soon as you had found out your destiny, you dropped everything and ran off with Seonghwa despite not knowing much about each other.
âDo you think itâs a trick to get us to get to know one another?â, it sounded ridiculous coming out of you, but it did make sense.
âProbably. Does that mean nothing is wrong? We can still be together?â, you grimaced at the overly complicated question.
âI donât know. Weâll figure that out I supposeâ, you tried to get around giving him a definite answer because you truly didnât know. The whole situation was so confusing and you had to curse the universe in your head.
The rest of your painting was silent. Seonghwa played with Bruce in the sand as you focused on the art. You were slowly realizing why the man loved painting so much.
It was peaceful and away from the harsh reality around him. He could create whatever world he wanted on this little canvas and there was no limits. No limits like you had created.
âPretty good for your first goâ, Seonghwa commented as he looked over your work. It was a tad bit more messy than if he had done it but it was impressive.
âI have a good teacherâ, you teased and smiled, feeling proud of doing something out of your comfort zone.
Your entire life had been a routine of activities and places you were familiar with. Now, the world felt boundless. Thatâs how Seonghwa made you feel.
âWell, itâs your turn to be teacher nowâ, the man poked your side and you wouldâve did it back if Bruce wasnât desperately pulling on the leash.
âCome with us? I can once Bruce is back in the hotel. Heâs tired of the outside nowâ, you chuckled as the puppy barked at you as if to agree. Seonghwa nodded and walked beside you down the beach and down the path to your hotel.
Once the dog was back in your room, you followed behind Seonghwa. He had mentioned a beautiful hiking trail not too far from here. You were realizing that he had probably been here the whole time. Maybe you werenât the only one who had run away.
âSo, what is your favorite animal?â, your head turned to look at the man, the question making you laugh softly. It was true that you didnât know that about each other. Maybe this walk would be good to actually know one another.
A scream tore through your throat when you were thrown into the lake, your clothes clinging to your wet body.
You glared when your head returned to the surface, the freezing water biting at your skin. Seonghwa just laughed, waving your camera in the air like itâs just some flimsy piece of paper.
âBe careful with that!â, you scolded him and he immediately stopped, like a puppy that was found eating the furniture.
âSorry sorry, but look how good it turned out!â, you swam over to the rock below him, leaning up on it like a mermaid peering up at her human prince.
He crouched down and showed you the photo. It was a photo of the exact moment your body had penetrated the water, the waterfall right behind you. It was beautiful.
âNow whoâs the good teacher?â, you teased and Seonghwa moved to lay on the rock, looking into your eyes.
âYou are. I genuinely love photography nowâ, he chuckled and it felt like the world had stopped as you look into each otherâs eyes.
âItâs a screenshot but for realityâ, you giggled and lifted yourself up with your hands, placing a little kiss on his forehead.
âDo you have anything I can change into?â, you asked as you realized your shirt was doing very little to cover your upper body now.
âJust take thisâ, he helps you out of the water and respectfully turns around, taking his hoodie off and passing it to you.
You put the hoodie on and it engulfed your smaller form, going down to your knees because of how oversized it was.
âOkay, you can look nowâ, Seonghwa nodded and turned around to face you, trying to hide his smile when he saw how adorable you looked.
âReady to go back? Itâs probably midnight nowâ, Seonghwa motioned to the moon shining above the trees. You stood there staring at it for a moment before you nodded, letting the man take your hand in his as he guided you along the path.
It was your last day in Jeju, a daunting knowledge that had you awake before even the sun rose. It had already been a week but you didnât feel like it was enough time.
Your feet sinked into the sand as you hurried to try to get a clear photo of the sunrise.
You eventually found a bolder to set up on, sitting on the cold surface once your camera was out. It was so peaceful but also eerily quiet.
Well, until a certain someone found you.
âHey, come to see the sunrise too?â, Seonghwa came to sit by you, his arm wrapped around you as if you were going to fall off the rock.
âYeah, I was wondering how beautiful it must be if the sunset is as gorgeous as it wasâ, you nodded and felt a weight on your shoulders, the need to get everything out. To figure it out.
âLast day, huh? Arenât you leaving in the morning?â, Seonghwa watched you nod and he pouted, that cute little pout that made your heart melt.
âYeah. Actually, why donât you come back with me?â, you looked at him, hope in your eyes ever present.
âI would but my friend is sick here. I have to be hereâ, so he didnât run off. He was running to help someone in need.
You nodded understandingly, your mind trying to come up with something but only silence filled the air.
âHey, before you leave, I wanted to ask something. Was there anything I couldâve said back then to make you stay?â, you knew what he was referring to. After the colors left, you had run off and drove to your apartment, not even looking back.
âHonestly... no. I was so confused and scared. I just wanted you to have it all and if that meant breaking your heart then I was okay with itâ, a sigh left your lips, feeling guilt fill your stomach.
âI think I would rather be completely blind then lose you againâ, the confession caught you off guard and you turned your entire body to face him.
âLike Iâd ever let that happenâ, you shook your head and Seonghwa cupped your face in his hands, looking over every feature he could. He wanted to remember it all when you were gone.
âLike Iâd let you stop meâ, he was so serious that it made you gulp, your heart pounding against your chest. He leaned in and finally closed the gap between you, his lips molding with yourâs perfectly. Sparks erupted through both of your bodies and it caused your body to shake as you wrapped your arms around his neck.
His hands trailed down to your waist, waiting for any protest from you before he moved them to your ass, squeezing the skin under your panties. The dress you were wearing did the bare minimal of protecting your lower body from the manâs hands. Not that you minded one bit.
Seonghwa pulled away from the kiss, looking up at you as he pulled you into his lap. His expression was filled with so much raw emotion, nothing hidden.
âDo you want this? Do you want us?â, the second question lingered in your mind. How would this work? You had no idea. Especially when he was stuck on this island, but you knew what you wanted.
âYes, I want you, Seonghwa. But, you have to keep painting. I need to see your work in the museumâ, Seonghwa chuckled and nodded, pecking your lips as he snuck his finger into your panties, moving it up and down your slit to collect your wetness.
âHereâs the catch though, youâll have to go to other museums to see them. Get out there, princessâ, you huffed in annoyance and the man smiled teasingly. After a week, the black and white world became comforting. It was simply a sign that Seonghwa was only looking at you.
Maybe the world was black and white because colors would only distract you two from what mattered. It wasnât how brown Seonghwaâs eyes were. It was how caring he was or how he made you laugh. Thatâs what is important.
Seonghwa pushed two of his fingers inside of you, scissoring your cunt open as his other hand lifted your dress up to reveal your breasts. He almost wanted to scold you for wearing no bra, but your breasts looked way too perfect under the moonlight for him to care.
A whimper sounded in your throat when his fingers started to hit that spot inside of you and you felt a cold substance on your chest. In the center of your torso, Seonghwa had spit and his tongue was now trailing up it to your breasts. His lips wrapped around the bud and sucked, only furthering your pleasure as you rocked your hips against his fingers.
It felt so perfect and right. Your bodies fit together like puzzle pieces and it oddly reminded you of the painting you two had made together. Glued together like a puzzle.
âYouâre so beautiful and smart. Youâre just amazing, okay?â, it was definitely more of a statement than a question but you nodded, a vibrant smile on your face. With Seonghwa, every insecurity felt minuscule. Nothing mattered but how you both felt with your bodies against each other.
âAnd youâre just as amazingâ, a soft moan mixed with the words and that only made it more impactful. Only he could have you making those sounds.
âYou want more?â, the gentleness of his voice made a shiver run up your spine. Not even the openness of your actions could bother you.
âPlease, give me moreâ, he read your meaning loud and clear, taking his fingers out of you. It felt so empty without them there but you knew something better was coming.
He unzipped his pants, letting your dress fall back down. He pulled his jeans and boxers down, letting his cock free and your mouth practically watered at the sight.
He moved your panties too the side, in too much of a hurry now that the sun was finally riding. You spread your legs and sunk down onto his dick, your head falling back blissfully as it stretched you out.
âShit, I forgot how big you areâ, you whined, moving your head into his neck and he licked the skin of your neck before he started to suck on it. Without his real canvas here, he would have to recreate the artwork you two had made on your skin.
âAnd i forgot how tight you are. Wait, let me make sureâ, you could practically hear the teasing tone in his voice as he bottomed out in you. His hand moved to lift your dress up a little, showing off the bulge in your tummy.
âThere it is. Look how good you take itâ, Seonghwa sounded so proud as he stared at it, moving his hips a little just to watch the bulge move.
âI only will take your cock. Only yourâsâ, it was so validating to hear you say that as your hands found their way into his hair, running through the messy locks, âyou can move, babyâ.
He didnât need to be told twice, his hips moving up and down as you bounced on his cock. The angle from being on top had you already moaning, joyful tears welling up in your eyes as bliss overtook your body.
âPrincess, lookâ, neither of your paces faltered as you turned your head to look at the sunrise. You smiled once you saw all the colors surrounding the sun. Light shun upon your bodies slowly and the warmth felt amazing.
âWait! The photo!â, you looked over at your camera which was sitting beside you and you stopped bouncing to grab it.
âNo, let meâ, Seonghwa smirked and took the camera, holding it out to your side. Your bodies were perfectly in view of the lens and you blushed as he took the photo, your naked bodies now in your camera roll.
âNow, whenever you look at a sunrise youâll think of meâ, he grinned and you playfully slapped his chest before you took the camera and took an appropriate picture of the sunrise.
You put the camera down and looked at the man again, his eyes meeting yourâs.
âHwa...â, your voice faltered when you saw something unfamiliar.
Orange. Purple. Red.
Right on your soulmateâs skin.
âYou- you see it too?â, the sunlight shining on both of your skin was now visible even if you were looking at one another.
âYes! Fuck, youâre so prettyâ, you couldnât help but say, tears spilling down your cheeks as you took in everything about him again. The gentle tan of his skin, his rosey lips, and even the color of his veins.
Seonghwaâs thumbs gently wiped away your tears before he tugged on your hair to bring your lips to his, his hips slowly beginning to move again. You moaned in his mouth, rolling your hips to meet his as you felt his dick rub against your walls.
âI love youâ, you whispered against his lips as you felt your orgasm building up. Seonghwa smiled, a beautiful smile you had missed in all its glory.
âI love you tooâ, his cock twitched inside of you and he started to rub your clit, your pussy clenching around him in response to the stimulation.
âCum together?â, you asked, resting your forehead against his as you tried to catch your breath.
âBe together? No matter the distance?â, you didnât expect him to answer with more questions, but you knew your answer to them and you knew his answer to your question.
âAlwaysâ, you nodded before you felt your orgasm run through your body, clenching around the man as your cum coated his cock.
Seonghwa had the decency to pull out of you, releasing on your thighs and stomach. He really was going to make you his new canvas.
His fingers smeared the seed on as much skin as he could get to and you giggled, shaking your head.
âAll I know is that you better answer every single one of my calls after thisâ, you became painfully aware of the vulnerability of being seen now. Seonghwa chuckled and gestured to the ocean.
âAnd you better get that cum off of your skin before the early birds get hereâ.

Darklina Week Day 2: Role Reversal
Sun Summoner!Darkling and Shadow Summoner!Alina
Alina, a cartographer for the Ravken Army, undertakes a dangerous mission to stay by her only friendâs side. They must cross the Forge, a hellscape of intense heat and unrelenting light that has torn their country in two. Nothing can survive the Forge for long. Nothing but the monsters that call it home. Alina thinks she and Mal will make it as long as theyâre together, but when their mission falls to pieces, Alina discovers something shocking about herself. She can banish light. Her powers draw the attention of the Golden General, a military leader who scares and intrigues Alina in equal measure. One thingâs for sure. Alina canât go back to life of a mouse, and the Generalâs her best option to fight for something more. Can Alina save her world, or will she die trying?
Or, an AU where light powers arenât necessarily good, and shadow powers get to be heroic. Content warning for some volcra expy related gore and some canon-consistent sprinkles of Malina at the beginning. Thereâs plenty of Darkles after that, now with extra sparkles.
Story under the jump
The Forge
Alina sits at the inn window, adding the last buttery yellow lines to her painting. For being such a blight against their nation, the Forge made a lovely landscape. She dons her fabrikator sunglasses, and turning her back to the unrelenting sunlight, she lifts her tented mirror up to compare her painting to the real thing. Her superior officers would kill her if they knew what she was using their equipment for, but the Forge is too bright to look at directly. Her superiors may not appreciate art, but if sheâs going to risk her life for more supplies, she wants to leave a memorial for herself.
âIt looks too much like a vacation spot,â Mal says, dragging up a chair so he can sit next to her. Heâs already wearing his glasses and darkened veil, which will supposedly keep the Forge from boiling their eyes out and trap moisture near their faces. Alina would be happier if more than army issued fashion stood between her and certain death.
âYou make a pretty bride, you know that?â Alina says instead of responding to the criticism. There were enough horrors in the Forge. She wanted make something pleasant. She places her canvas between the shelf and the wall, hoping that someone working at the inn will find it.
Mal huffs. âYou wouldnât say that if you saw the bags under my eyes. Donât know how people sleep around here.â
Alina supposes people can get used to anything, even perpetual daylight. She secures her mirror and knives to her belt and dons her veil and gloves. She shimmies down the narrow walkway as if showing off the latest fashion. âWhat do you think?â
Mal makes a show of considering it, rubbing his chin under the veil. âI think the sveta will be too smitten to eat you.â
Alina tilts her head in mock coyness. âThatâs the nicest thing anyoneâs said to me.â She leaves it unspoken that she wishes someone else was smitten with her.
âCome on,â Mal says, taking her by the arm. âI want to be on time for once.â
By the time they reach the skiff, Alina and Mal are five minutes late. Thankfully, Alexei, her fellow cartographer, covered for her.
âYou owe me,â he says, shoving her maps into her hands.
âIâll bake you a cake,â Alina promises.
âYou already owe me twelve cakes!â
âThen Iâll name my first born after you.â
Alexei snorts. âLike any of us are going to live long enough to have kids. Weâre all going to be beef jerky in a few hours.â
âSqueak. Squeak, Alexei.â Itâs the code their cartographers have for when Alexeiâs boundless optimism is bringing them down.
Normally, Alexei would grumble but acquiesce. Today, he just stares at the skiff. âDo you really think the sveta are real?â
Alina shrugs. âWhat else could eat our men out there?â Admittedly, invisible creatures made of light sounded farfetched, but sheâs seen the battle scars. Other soldiers had claw mark scars across their chest and spots where something inhuman had taken a bite out of them. The light could blister, burn and tan flesh, but it couldnât do that.
âI dunno. Maybe him,â Alexei said, eyeing the golden carriage in the distance. âThe Geldling.â
Alina quickly hushes him. General Kirigan tolerates others calling him the Golden General, but he does not take kindly to the Geldling. Sure, the epitaph was based on an old Kerch word for gold, but gelding is also what one did to a prized horse to keep it docile. It was as good as saying their leader is a ballless pet, and everyone knows it. Â
Sure enough, one of the heartrenders lifts his veil and glares at them. He might have been handsome once, but his sour expression makes the lines on his face hard.
âCaptain Herring may be rough, but heâs not a cannibal.â Alina hopes this is enough to cover over their mistake. The heartrender doesnât look convinced, but he doesnât fight them either. That suited Alina well enough.
âWatch what you say,â she whispers to Alexei. âWe have to depend on these people to survive. Donât make them mad.â
Alexei nods. âSorry.â
Thankfully, the rest of their time at the dock goes smoothly. Soon, all the soldiers and Girsha gather inside the metal skiff, ready to take off. A tidemaker hoses them all down, making Alina feel like a drenched rat, but the water is important in such a hot place.
Alina makes sure to stand by Mal, gripping his arm for support as the skiff slides along the sand. Thereâs enough space to move around, but something about the lack of windows makes the room feel unbearably tight. Itâs like one big coffin.
Squeak, squeak, Alina tells herself. No oneâs going to die today.
The skiff rattles as they pass over marker zero. Theyâre officially in the Forge. The panels in the side of the skiff slide up. Rows of dark nets allow squallers to force air out without letting the light in. Theyâll have to use the tinted mirrors along the sides of the skiff to direct it.
Alina fans herself, wishing the nets could ease the heat. She was drenched just minutes ago, but her uniformâs now bone dry. Sure, the tidemakers periodically release a mist from their fancy containers and push it around the cabin, but thatâs like giving a starving man a single bite.
âI bet I can sweat more than you,â Mal jokes, and sheâs sure itâs to help distract her. Even the dumbest man in their unit wouldnât brag about that.
âNo way. Sweat more than that heartrender over there, and you have a deal,â she whispers back. It was a hard challenge. The heartrender already smelled like heâd bathed in nothing but used socks for years.
Mal leans back in shock. âYikes. Are you trying to kill me? I canât beat that.â
Alexei sniffs beside them, rubbing under his veil. âMy lids are scraping my eyeballs.â
Alina reaches over and slaps his hand the way she used to do with the younger kids at the orphanage. âThen stop picking at them.â
Alexei mumbles. Heâs a good cartographer, but he also comes from money, and that didnât always make for a good soldier. Alina wonders if she should have erased his name instead of Rubyâs. This mission called for two cartographers, and Ruby could withstand discomfort better than he could, but Alina wasnât thinking rationally. Mal was going to go into the Forge by himself, and Alina needed to remove someone so she could forge her own name on the mission papers. Mal wouldnât give Alexei a second glance, but Ruby had red hair and a slim figure. Alina couldnât risk Mal having âglad weâre still aliveâ sex with her after the mission. It was petty, childish even, but Alina couldnât help herself. If they all survive the skiff, sheâll woman up and tell Mal how she feels. Lord knows hanging in this middle ground wasnât doing either of them any favors. Â
The skiff shakes, and Alexei grabs the walls. âSaints! Itâs the sveta.â
The squaller at the helm shushes him. âJust a bump. Donât call attention to us.â
Alexeiâs shoulders slump, but he retakes his position behind the squaller without another word.
Alina canât help but lean around her squaller to peak in her mirror. Sheâd heard about calcified roots surviving the Forge long after the crops perished. The real thing must be prettier than the paintings. Instead of a root, Alina finds the fragments of a skull and the front of a skiff.
She steps back, her stomach sinking into her boots. Itâs one thing to know the odds, but itâs another to stare the evidence in the face. Better men than them have failed to cross.
The crew stand in silence as the skiff passes the first marker. Alina gives her squaller the proper directions and distances, and soon they pass the second marker. The third. The fourth. Alina allows herself to hope. Just eleven more and theyâre home free.
She scratches her arm, and flakes of dry skin come off. No wonder the skiff regulars look like leather. Sheâd rather go AWOL than do this again. Then again, she didnât have be here this time either. She has no one to blame but herself.
The skiff rumbles and tilts. Itâs just another bump, she assures herself, but something raps against the ceiling. The heartrenders tense up, and the squallers shift their positions.
Oh, no.
She checks on Mal just to be sure, but heâs clutching his gun tight, his head tilted up. Itâs the same stance he took when he found that rabbit in a barren forest or when he was about to catch her during hide and seek. Heâs sighted something, only this time, that something is stronger than them.
The squaller at the helm brings the skiff to a stop and signals for the shooters and heartrenders to take position. All the non-combat staff â cartographers included â must gather at the center. Alina takes out her knife and her tented mirror, praying she wonât have to use them.
âProtect yourselves if you must,â the squaller whispers, âbut donât get in anyoneâs way.â
Alinaâs never felt more useless in her life.
The skiff continues to shake, harder this time. Something whines above them. Something answers itâs call from somewhere in front of them. Another whine sounds from behind the skiff. From all sides. How many of them are out there? At least a dozen given the sheer number of cries. No one dares make a sound. The sveta are fierce, but theyâre just as blind as a human in the Forge. Maybe if they donât hear anything, theyâll get bored and hunt elsewhere.
The ceiling dents in with a clank, knocking the skiff to the right. One of the soldiers jumps at the sound, aiming where it came from. The squaller at the helm blows him away, but not in time. The shot blows a hole in the ceiling, letting the light in. The beam hits a tidemakerâs shoulders, carving a smoking black line through her kefta. She screams, tearing off the cloth to expose a blistering gash. A healer pulls her to the side as one her friends tries to stifle her screams with a damp cloth, but itâs too late. The sveta cries draw closer.
Something claws a large hole through the ceiling, the soldiers scrambling to avoid the new beams. Some squallers attempt to blow up a tarp to cover the open areas, but it stops in thin air. No. Not thin air. The tarp drapes over something Alina canât see with her naked eye. Under the plastic, she can make out its large, pointed wings and snout.
âBlast it,â the squaller at the helm shouts, and the soldiers open fire on the creature. It whines, batting away the tarp, and then itâs gone.
For a moment, no one makes a move. The cabin is utterly silent. Then something flashes across Alinaâs mirror, and the next thing she knows, the soldier beside her explodes in a splash of red. On the other side of the skiff, a healerâs hand disappears. He draws back, clutching his now bloody stump as one of the creatures screeches in triumph.
Alina backs up, though thereâs nowhere left to go. Oh, saints. She should have never come here. She begs every saint she can think of to forgive whatever sin brought her to this horrible moment. Shooting her fellow man in combat. Wishing harm to the girls Mal so much as looked at. Disregarding Ana Kuyaâs rules at every turn. Whatever it was, she repented. Just please donât let her die at some monsterâs hand.
The durasts burst dust in the air. It makes their own people cough, but it helps make the sveta more visible.
BAM!
Another chunk of ceiling caves in, forcing the crew to huddle along the perimeter to escape the light. Not all of them were quick enough. Several soldiers blister and peel, crying as the sveta tear off chunks of flesh from their bodies.
Alina can only stare. Itâs too late for prayers. Too late to run. She should have talked Mal into fleeing while she had the chance, and now ... Alina holds out her mirror, a new hope setting in. They might not make it out, but she can at least die by Malâs side. He has to know how she feels.
Alina slowly shifts through the chaos, dodging shots and beams of light. She finds him by the helm, taking deep breaths as he aims and shoots. Something heavy hits the floor, gurgling. Of course. Leave it to Mal to find the creatures without a mirror.
She shines her mirror in the direction the creature fell, hoping to avoid tripping its body, but to her surprise, she can just make out the sheen of its skin. The colors change as she tilts the mirror, first blue, then pink and maybe green. All the colors of the rainbow. It reminds her of looking through a prism. Not invisible then. The sveta are just reflective.
Alina giggles. Ana Kuya would be so proud of her, committing to her education even as sheâs about to die. She keeps giggling over and over, knowing that if she stops, sheâll have to cry. There are just so many bodies around her. They used to be people, and now theyâre meat.
Someone grabs her wrist, and a shot of energy courses through her, quieting the hysteria. Mal drags her beside him.
âIâm sorry,â she says, but heâs busy readying his next shot. âI lo â â She doesnât get any further. Another soldierâs bullet ricochets off the wall and hits Mal in the shoulder. He doubles over, his gun clattering to the floor.
Alina drops her mirror, pressing a palm against the wound. The blood seeps from between her fingers no matter how hard she tries to stop the flow.
Mal slides to the floor, Alina crouching beside him. The light streams against them, burning her chest and his back. The pain means nothing compared to the loss.
âNo. Not like this,â she says, covering Malâs body with her own.
The pain in her back only lasts a second. It occurs to her that this is not a good thing. It means her nerves have been eaten away, but sheâs glad to do it if it means Mal can live.
Something rumbles in the pit of her stomach. She feels like sheâs going to burst, and she doesnât have the strength to fight it.
All around her, the creatures cry and flap their wings erratically. She doesnât have time think about it as the world goes dark, sinking her into a deep oblivion.
 *****************************
Alina wakes, draped over someoneâs shoulder, face buried in the red cloth of his kefta. She only lifts her head for one moment, but the lightâs unbearable.
The light?
âMal,â Alina shouts. She wiggles to free herself from the Grishaâs grip. The sveta will come back at any moment. She has to find Mal. Protect him. Where is he?
But theyâre not on the skiff anymore. Theyâre back at the dock, the skiff a shredded husk. People rush every which way, some tending to the wounded and some salvaging the cargo from the hold. Mal could be anywhere among them. Then Alina catches sight of the ground. Oh, saints! So many people lay unmoving on the dock, and Grisha and First Army soldiers keep dragging out more. All these people she trained with. Ate with. Sung bawdy songs with when theyâd all had too much kvas. Dead. They canât all be gone. Right? Right?
Alina kicks at the Grisha. She needs to see for herself who made it out. Mal better be among them. Of course, he would be. He was the best tracker Ravkaâs ever seen. Heâd always find his way back home. Home to her.
The Grisha swears at her, trying to stop her feet with one arm. âBe still.â She recognizes him. The heartrender that had sneered at Alexeiâs comment earlier. Alina drives a fist in the heartrenderâs back. If Grisha like him had done more they wouldnât be in the situation. He did it on purpose, didnât he? He let their soldiers die because someone spoke against his leader. His pride meant more than the supplies theyâd get from West Ravka. More than human life.
âFine.â With a huff, the Grisha drops her flat on her butt, sand puffing in her face. Sheâs coughing too much to fight him off when the heartrender takes her by her bicep and drags her towards the camp. Another heartrender takes her other arm, his grip gentler than his coworkerâs.
âWas that necessary, Ivan?â The second heartrender asked.
Ivan only grunts âFedyorâ as a warning in response. Fedyor shakes his head with what Alina would call fondness if she thought anyone could be fond of something as sour as Ivan.
âWhereâs Mal?â Alina asks Fedyor, but he only lifts a brow. Of course, he wouldnât recognize the name of a common solider. There were so many of them, and Grisha only concerned themselves with their own. âThe boy I was with on the skiff.â
âAh. Him,â Fedyor says. âThe First Army tends to their own wounded. Heâs in their care.â
Alina knows what that means. Heâs laying outside the infirmary tent, waiting for his turn to have an undertrained medic pour alcohol in his wounds then pack them with mustard plaster. If heâs lucky, theyâll still have enough bandages for him to get his own. Having to use the scraps from old uniforms inevitably led to infection, and without supplies from the west, the camp outpost could not provide the steady diet of alcohol needed to survive that misery. Mal is popular, though. Sheâs sure someone will be willing to sacrifice their stash for his comfort.
Then it occurs to her that sheâs not doing the same thing. Sheâd been horribly burned by the light, and yet her back doesnât ache. Someone must have removed her jacket while Alina was unconscious, but her undershirt is scorched where the light hit it. Her chest is unusually red, but itâs not blistering or charred. The worst she can say is that she feels like sheâs been awake for days.
âWhy would someone heal me?â Sheâs heard it a thousand times before. Healers were too rare to waste on common soldiers. They were for Grisha and those wealthy enough to be a priority. She is neither, and yet when she looks up at Fedyor, heâs gazing down at her with some feeling she dares not define. It was the same look the Grisha gave the golden carriage when it barreled into the encampment. The same look the peasants near Keramzin gave the bones of Saint Felix on his day of worship. If she didnât know better, sheâd call it reverence.
They stare at each other for what feels like an eternity when he finally says, âWe survived.â Alina doesnât know what she has to do with that. It was luck. Pure and simple. But then Fedyor closes his eyes and whispers, âThank you.â
A chill runs through Alina despite the heat. She looks at the tents, the people running around them, anywhere and everywhere but at Fedyor and that look, full of expectations she can never fill. Theyâve long since passed the First Army section, but theyâre now leaving the main Grisha area, heading up the northmost path. Thereâs nothing there except for the single yellow tent towering over the rest of the encampment.
Alina pulls back, but it does nothing to stop the heartrenders. âWhat does the General want with me?â
âJust answer his questions, so we call all get on with our day,â Ivan says.
âI donât know anything! Let go of me!â She turns to look back at the First Army camp, too far away for anyone to see her let alone help. Not that they could do anything if they wanted to. No one says no to the General.
Fedyor grips the back of her neck, and her whole body turns to puddy. The heartrenders lean into her, holding her upright because her knees can no longer bear her weight. Sheâs too relaxed to move at all.
Ivan sniffs. âYou werenât supposed to do that for anyone but me.â
Fedyor grins. âSorry, luv. Desperate times and all that.â
They march her straight into the lionâs den.
She doesnât know what she expected to see. A jeweled throne and a menagerie of exotic animals like the ones sheâd seen in the illustrated book of fairy tales back at the orphanage? Enemy soldiers kept in cages and chained otkazatâsya serving the Grisha like the Fjerdan pamphlet a traveler tried to give them before Ana Kuya kicked them off the dukeâs property? But this place resembled the main tent for the First Army. Soldiers clustered together around a round table. A large map hung from a board, thread and pegs marking paths, places and interesting parties. And yet the Generalâs tent was larger than theirs, made of bulletproof core cloth while they had to make do with spun cotten. They must not need to ration oil either given the number of lamps lit, and the gathered Grisha shone like banners in their blue, red and purple keftas. No olive drab for them.
Most of the room turned to face them when the heartrenders dragged Alina in. Some now look at her with open curiosity and others with incredulous expressions. Soft mummers pass through the crowd until someone raises their hand, and the whole lot fall silent. Saints, Alina never heard a tent so quiet before. Even during lights out, at least one person snored.
Without needing to be told, the Grisha step back, parting down the center to make a path. A lone man strides forward, his telltale yellow kefta billowing around him. Notes of silver, white and gold weave through it, enough thread to stitch three tents of this size together, but heâs not wearing the jewelry sheâd expect from his high rank, and his clothes are core cloth like any other Grisha. Sheâs never seen a high officer without any silk on, no matter how impractical it might be. After all, most never saw battle. Not like this one had.
The Golden General is younger than sheâd expected given what others said about him. Sheâd seen a shriveled man with boney hands covered in warts in her mindâs eye, but this man barely had a decade on her, and his warm blonde hair and fair, flawless complexion were pleasing on the eyes. Too pleasing. Even the most beautiful boy back home had some freckle or ruddiness to his skin, but the Generalâs looks almost painted on. Itâs eerie, and yet she canât look away. Heâs like the very embodiment of the light, except thereâs a coldness in his gaze and calm comportment.
He may be light, but heâs not warmth.
That right, she tells herself. Ana Kuya warned her about such things before. One of the orphans sheâd grown up with saw a gold coin glittering in some bushes under a hill. Heâd climbed down for it, only to be rolled by some travelers. They took the buttons from his coat and the boots from his feet. He came home with nothing but his pants and a gash on his forehead. Ana Kuya warned them all then: not all thatâs gold glitters. Sometimes, it burns instead. Gold tempts the desperate, but Alina is not blind. The General only looked like a man. He can boil someoneâs insides. Make their flesh rot from their bone as if they were already dead. Â Burn them with a glance. And here he is, looking straight at her.
The General stops a few feet away and clasps his hands behind his back. He looks her over, and she doesnât know whether to be scared or grateful that she canât read what conclusions heâs drawn. He nods at the heartrenders, and Fedyor rubs the back of Alinaâs neck. Her limbs come back to life, panic rising from her core. She wants to run, but thereâs no point.
The General stares at her, impassive, and then finally: âIs it true?â
For a moment, Alina believes the absurd. Heâs read her thoughts and knows what she said about him being a monster. Then it occurs to her that heâs talking about the skiff. She closes her eyes. What does he want her to say? She was unconscious for most of what went down, and she can barely remember what she was present for. Flashes of her coworkerâs blood and blistering arms intrude behind her closed lids, forcing them open again. Maybe itâs best she canât remember.
She must have taken too long to answer because the General speaks again. âIs it true that you can banish the light?â
All Alina can do is blink. This has to be a joke, but the Generalâs expression is serious, and everyone around them is leaning in with anticipation. She knows better than to laugh in their faces and question their intelligence, so she makes do by stuttering, âNo one can do that.â It takes a moment, but she remembers to add a quick âsir.â Sheâs not used to being around anyone important.
She braces herself for him to yell at her the way the generals in their army do, but he merely nods. âThen what did happen?â
Alina struggles for an answer. She tries to tell him that she doesnât know how the sveta got in, or how their ship made it, but no matter what she says, she keeps returning to those burning soldiers. The General frowns, and she knows she needs to come up with something â anything â to appease him.
The General raises a hand to silence her, and when he speaks, his tone is smooth and calm. âIt must have been scary out there. Itâs one thing to read about the attacks, but itâs another to live it.â
Alina hadnât expecting any sympathy, so she just nods.
âYou must be exhausted.â When Alina nods again, the General continues. âItâs hard to make sense of anything when you hurt so much. I could help with that if youâll let me.â He gestures beside him, inviting her closer.
He may have asked for permission, but Alina isnât sure she really has a choice. Still, heâs been nothing but polite so far. She has nothing to lose by playing along.
Alina slowly closes the gap between them, and the closer she gets, the closer she wants to get. Itâs like heâs a magnet, and sheâs loose filigree coming together for the first time. She feels the warmth now, not in his continence, but all around him. It doesnât burn. It doesnât tingle. It numbs the heaviness of her limbs and banishes the panic thatâs haunted her since the skiff penetrated the Forge. Before she knows it, Alinaâs pressed up against the General. Sheâs vaguely aware that itâs not appropriate to stand so close to a superior, and itâs definitely not safe to be within biting distance of a monster, but it feels right. She doesnât want to be anywhere else.
The General doesnât seem to mind either, staring deep into her eyes like heâs trapped, too. Her reflection stares back at her in his eyes. Theyâre just so bright and shiny. She has a hard time placing the color. It reminds her of one of the dukeâs vases. The blown glass was iridescent and shimmered with every color around it. She and Mal had argued for years over what color it really was. He said purple. She said green. They finally settled things with a good arm wrestle. Green won, of course. Alina decides that the Generalâs eyes are green, too.
âMay I?â He asks, and though she canât see where heâs pointing, she answers his unspoken request, sliding her hand in his. His palms are rough from life on the road, but theyâre warm, and his grip os gentler than Fedyorâs had been. She could hold his hand and stare into his eyes forever.
âWhat happened?â The General asks in a voice softer than silks.
The words spill out of Alina on their own. She tells him about forging her name on the staff list. The attack. Shielding Mal. The sveta descending on them, and then â âAll I could look at was him, but I could feel the light getting sucked away. Everything went black, and then I woke up on the docks.â
The General says nothing, but his eyes briefly narrow. Itâs not a threat as far as Alina can tell. Whatever she said seemed to confirm something for him. The General pushes up her sleeve with his free hand, never breaking her gaze. She doesnât fight it. Sheâs curious, too. Something happened back on that skiff. Itâs there lurking there in the back of her brain, begging to be revealed. She knows once itâs free, it can never be caged again. The thought simultaneously thrills her and makes her shiver.
The General trails one finger up her arm. Something inside her responds to act, rejoices in it. His finger stops and curls around her forearm. She notes that the nail on his thumb is longer than the others. Sharp. He drives that nail into her flesh, and itâs like a thousand arms stream out of her at once.
Darkness surrounds them, putting out the lights. No, the lamps are still on. She can feel their flames licking at the shadows just as easily as she can feel the Generalâs grip on her arm. All around them, the Grisha shout. She canât see them so much as she feels where they are in the dark. It the strangest sensation, and yet it feels like home. Everything is darkness.
Everything but him.
The General glows, smiling down at her. A true lamp would illuminate the world around them, but there he stands, the sole bright spot in the blackness. Standing together, it feels like theyâre the only two people in the world. Then the General lets go of her arm and the darkness withers, fading into the ground or retreating under Alinaâs skin to fight another day.
Alina clutches her chest, suddenly empty inside. Her head swivels every which way, desperate to find that surety again, but itâs gone. The aches have returned, magnified tenfold. She can barely keep herself upright, and soon, sheâs on her knees, her head swimming.
âA shadow summoner,â some squaller says, and itâs as if a dam broke in Alinaâs mind. She stares at her rough, ruddy hands. Theyâre not the hands of a hero, and yet itâs true. Itâs all true. She can banish the light. She saved the skiff from the Forge.
Sheâs ⊠Grisha.
Alina frowns, remembering what Mal said when that Grisha girl made eyes at him from the Generalâs carriage. He doesnât tumble witches. Alina was glad to hear it then. It meant less competition for her, and she and Mal had exchanged plenty of digs at the Grisha over the years. Surely, he wouldnât think sheâs like the rest of them just because she has powers. She didnât grow up coddled and self-important like the rest of them. That had to count for something. He knew her. The real her. He wouldnât be scared of her because of her shadows.
No matter how hard Alina tries, she canât bring herself to believe it.
The General holds out his hand. Alina stares up at him, sure she should bat it away. Sheâs not one of his Grisha. Sheâs a mapmaker and an orphan and Malâs best friend. But that may not be true anymore, and sheâd be a fool to burn any bridges.
She takes his hand, letting the General lift her to her feet. He pulls her close again, so close she can feel his breath against her face. She should let go, but she clings to his hand like itâs the last safe ledge in a rockslide. He gives her a knowing smirk, and she wants to wipe it off his stupid face. Sheâs had a rough day. She would have clung to literally anybody, but then the General leans in, and she feels that warmth again. His lips brush her ear as he whispers, âYou and I are going to change the world.â
Notes:
Whoo! This is my first Grishaverse fanfic. It may be a little late, but itâs here. One shot for now, but I might be interested in continuing this in the future. Hope you enjoyed!

Sindria's Prophet #14

[AO3]
~POV Mori~
I woke up when it was still dark out. Only the faintest light came in my windows.
I hadn't done anything yesterday. Just laid down and rested for the first time in a long time. The doctor's were convinced I needed one more day of rest, but I knew I was already better. When was the last time I had just let my body rest like that when I wasn't sick? I couldn't remember. This peace was nice.
The quiet of sunrise was only broken by the faint sound of bird calls in the distance. I sat up and closed my eyes. I focused everything on my other senses. I couldn't hear the ocean easily from here. I had wanted to use the sounds of the waves to meditate, but I would just have to do without.
It had been a few days since I last checked in with myself and really focused inward. I could still feel them, all of the Black Rukh that had merged with me back in Balbadd. They were much calmer than before. And they felt like a part of me now, like I might be incomplete if they were suddenly gone. I knew each one from the dreams too. Their lives were mine and each also now knew my life as their own.
Going through all of their lives on the ship would have been painful even without being sick. These were angry souls and they did not welcome the inner peace I was offering easily, but a person's Rukh doesn't lie. After reading this world's truth through my memories they all calmed.
All of us lived lives of loss and poverty and trauma. That must have been another part of why we were able to fully merge in such a short time.
As Black Rukh they couldn't return to the Great Flow where the rest of their loved ones were, but they at least had each other within me.
It was a very strange feeling.
And along with their lives and Rukh, their magoi was also now mine. What had felt like a small pool now felt like a large lake. I had a lot more magoi at my disposal now that they were fully integrated with me.
The Great Bell range and I grounded myself in the present.
Only then did it occur to me that I was probably sick, and suffering from the influx of Rukh separately at the same time. It had been both all along. Whatever illness I had was worsened by my situation with the Rukh. I hadn't lost my magoi manipulation during it, but it was probably learning it ahead of time that had saved me. There's no way such a large amount of Rukh entering me wouldn't have made my body unstable.
Would the doctors understand if I explained it to them? I should ask Sinbad before saying something unnecessary.
The dim light from my windows called to me. I got out of my bed, put on my glasses, and sat on the sill of one them at the encouragement of the waves.
Like this, I could look down and see the Palace court yard. On the other side of the court yard were the Silver Scorpio (martial arts training), and Black Libra (libraries & schools) Towers, behind them to the left was the Red Cancer Tower (military) and fully to the left was the Purple Leo Tower where Sinbad lived. Since I was on a high floor I could easily see all of the towers of the Palace from my windows -all except the White Capricorn Tower where Ja'far does most of his work since that building was on the other side of this one.
It was so strange. Looking at all this made it real that I was really here. How many times had I reread or rewatched scenes wondering what it would feel like to be here?
I rested my head on the window frame as I watched the growing light from the sunrise.
The guards changed.
The sun was fully risen. Ja'far would be waking up Sinbad soon if he hadn't already.
Two people walked out of the Purple Leo Tower -a guard and a woman. She wasn't wearing a uniform. In fact she was wearing less than the citizens I saw the other day.
"Oh, right."
Sinbad has a call girl see to him after Ja'far wakes him up.
I had the 3rd fan book for the anime which contains a day-in-the-life for a bunch of the main characters. It was only in Japanese, but I had learned enough (and could look up what I didn't know) to at least read his schedule.
The direct translation was for a "temporary woman" which from what I've found is the Japanese term for a fem sex worker. I've seen some translations for Magi's extra material refer to them as "call girls" so that was the term I chose to use.
The franchise used the word "harem" in a bunch of places, but purposely didn't use it here. That combined with an omake of Sinbad having a nightmare about being married and having a harem made it clear that Sinbad did not have a harem; he had the whole red-light district of his country to choose from.
Hold on... That book wasn't supposed to reach my house until after I had Isekaied so how did I know it's contents? There were barely any scans or photos of pages online-
*Knock knock*
My thoughts
were cut off when breakfast arrived -with more medicine of course.
---
~POV Sinbad~
Nearly a week had passed since King Sinbad had arrived home. There was a lot to catch up on. As much as he wanted to finally relax after everything that happened in Balbadd he didn't really have the time for it. Even after catching up he would still have to prepare for his trip to the Kou Empire. And Ja'far wasn't letting him forget either responsibility.
None of this stopped him from having his slow mornings. He at least gave himself that little slice of heaven.
This was business as usual -at least it was supposed to be- but Sinbad couldn't shake a growing feeling that he couldn't name. It was making him unsettled. The waves didn't give him any answers and drinking hadn't made it go away. It felt similar to missing important.
He wasn't missing any paperwork. There had been an issue with one of their supply ships going missing, and another being delayed, but he had already decided how to proceed. He was definitely interested in the progress the Black Libra Tower was making with testing Mori's theories, but the experiments would take time and they had already scheduled a meeting for an update. The new guests were still settling in. Alibaba was a mess and Aladdin was only marginally better the last time he had visited, but Morgiana was fine and already training with Masrur regularly. According to the doctors reports, Mori would be better in another day or so, and the reports he got from the maids said she was resting every day after giving that partial scroll.
Maybe this was impatience. Aside from his paperwork, everything interesting was either done or waiting for the next step.
Sinbad often walked his country in the evening, but there was no reason he couldn't check on things now. He didn't have time to go for a walk at that moment, but he could spare the magoi needed to use Zepar and fly around the country using the bird he had possessed with the Djinn's power. This wouldn't be the first time he'd done this while working on paperwork.
The bird was sitting on a railing in the city center when Sinbad took over. From this spot he could make some quick rounds in the city and then maybe make a stop in the Black Libra Tower to get a sneak peak at what they had found out so far.
The same old gossip filled most of the streets. Some price complaints, who just had a child, how work was going...
"You're serious? A prophet?â
"My husband saw the scrolls she made from her visions with his own two eyes."
Now that was new gossip.
Sinbad had the bird land near by the two women.
"Oh? What was in them?"
"He said it was like reading secrets of the world."
"Really???"
"Mhmm." She nodded. "Not everyone believes it though so they are all working to test her writing."
"Didn't you just say she was brought in by our King? Do they really think he'd be fooled by some false prophet?"
"I said the same thing! And you know what my husband said? He said that they need to find proof even if they believe the Prophet because otherwise we won't be able to prove it to our allied countries."
"I guess that makes sense..."
"Yeah, I guess so."
"Oh! I think I might know what she looks like!â
"What? How? You only learned about her just now."
"When King Sinbad came home, there was a girl on some magical flying cloth, remember? That has to have been the Prophet!"
"I think you're right!"
To two moved on to some other gossip and King had the bird fly towards the Palace. Listening to talk about his Beautiful Prophet reminded him of his mission to peek at what was happening in the Black Libra Tower. Being able to bypass the stairs and the gates made the journey much faster.
The Sun was already in the western side of the sky. Shadows were cast onto the court yard from the Black Libra Tower. The stone of the Green Sagittarius Tower was nearly blinding white from the direct light. Color flashed in the corner of his eye as the bird flew past the upper levels of the guest tower. Before his thoughts had fully registered the familiar shade of nearly black indigo, Sinbad was guiding the bird to investigate. He landed on the railing of one of the windows and looked at the young woman resting against that same window's frame.
Mori looked just as surprised to see a bird land right in front of her as he was to be there. Sinbad had purposely been avoiding using Zepar to spy on Mori since she somehow knew that he had eavesdropped on her before. It had been days since he last saw her, so when she was suddenly an option-
"Heh hehe"
Mori's chuckle and smile took his full attention. He didn't know what had made her laugh, but he hoped she'd do it again.
"Sir, are you aware you are a bird?â After the words passed her lips she was struck by a giggle fit.
Sinbad had no idea what she was thinking or why she had said that to a bird, but he was hearing her voice for the first time in nearly a week so he'd worry about figuring it out later.
When Mori finished laughing at her own joke she leaned her head to the side and watched him. Her hair shifted and another lock spilled over her shoulder. The sight brought attention to the low neckline of the dress she was wearing. If Sinbad was there in person he would have brushed her hair out of the way just to have an excuse to touch her.
"Did you miss me that much?" Her voice was soft and a bit playful. "You didn't have to use Zepar to visit me."
Mori knew it was him! Sinbad jolted and his head hit the back of his chair in his office. How could she tell? Only magicians could see magoi and Rukh to see the spell active on the bird.
"Sin, is something wrong?-â Ja'far had just entered the room to give his afternoon report.
King Sinbad raised a hand for him to be quiet and tapped Zepar's ring to explain the situation. He didn't want to talk and miss something Mori said or did.
The General's expression turned serious and nodded as he went quiet.
When Mori didn't get a response from the bird she added, "Are you surprised that I knew it was you?" Her smile was warm as the sun. "I have read your Fate many times, so I will always recognize you, my King."
Normally, the idea that someone could see through Zepar's magic would concern him, but this didn't. It strengthened his belief that Fate had guided Mori to him.
And the affectionate way she said "my King" at the end made him smile. The waves had moved like this a few times like the last time he had seen her in person, and when he learned she could also feel the waves. The Great Flow of the Rukh was guiding them to the Fate he could see, the one where she lived the rest of her life by his side.
Ja'far sighed. "Just let me know when I can give you my report."
Mori whipped her head towards the door to her room. "They're here early."
There were the sounds of people walking in the hallway, but no voices to denounce who, or their destination. All the same, Mori got up and walked to the door. She opened it before the doctors had a chance to knock.
"How did you...?" One of the doctors asked.
"I recognized the sound of your footsteps," was her answer.
"I see.... And how are you feeling today?"
Mori walked into her room, and spared a glance at the bird still watching her from the window. "I feel fine. Just like yesterday." She turned back towards the door and sat on the edge of her bed. "So can I finally leave this room?"
The doctors were understanding but they still were going to do a full check up first.
Even without the waves it was obvious that Mori was going to be marked as full health. Sinbad would prefer to go see her immediately and give her a tour of the Palace personally, but he was still a King with responsibilities. "Ja'far, Mori has just been declared healthy. What do you think of everyone having dinner together to get everyone better aquatinted?"
"I didn't hear anything about-â Ja'far started and then cut himself when he realized. "Were you just using Zepar to spy on her??"
"Of course not." Sinbad said with all of the confidence of the King he was. "I flew directly to her and she recognized me instantly. I wasn't spying at all."
"She recognized you??" Of course he'd be shocked.
King Sinbad laughed. "She did. Though she was surprised to see me."
"I bet she was surprised to suddenly see a bird in her room. What made you think to use Zepar instead of visiting her in person? You're already getting regular reports on her condition." Ja'far always acted as a buzz kill.
It didn't stop Sinbad from laughing at the situation before finally asking for that report he postponed earlier -conveniently avoiding answering Ja'far's question.
The magician in Mori's room was talking. "Would you be interested in visiting the Black Libra Tower with us? We can show you how the experiments are going. And if possible, would you be willing to answer some questions?"
That was an understandable request, but it could wear her out.
The Prophet was facing away from the windows so Sinbad couldn't see her expression. "I'd really like that actually." But he could hear the excitement growing in her voice.
"Let me get changed real quick." Mori disappeared behind her folding wall and emerged in the outfit he met her in.
Sinbad did not drop control of the bird, but he also didn't follow Mori out of her room. Instead he waited in the window sill until he saw her enter the courtyard and then had the bird fly to the Black Libra Tower.
---
As soon as he finished whatever last minute things Ja'far was about to add to his pile, Sinbad would go to the Black Libra Tower and surprise his Beautiful Prophet in person.
~POV Mori~
In the manga and in the anime the only areas shown of the Black Libra Tower were Yamuraiha's office/lab and one of the libraries. I was more than curious about the rest of the facilities.
The first room seemed to be a reception area and had a map of the tower. I only got to glance at the separations between the libraries, offices and class rooms before a tall and lanky magician walked up to us.
"Is this her??â Her short ponytail bounced as she looked between me and my guides.
Isa, the magician who had been taking care of me the past few days, introduced me. "This is Lady Mori, the Prophet!â He acted like he was showing off the coolest toy on the playground.
The tall woman got right up in my face. "I knew she had to be the Prophet! The Rukh don't normally move this way around people."
Before I got to respond she started rambling comments and questions that covered everything in maroon and peacock blue getting sponged across a cream canvas. I stepped back and Isa cut her off. "Lady Mori will be answering everyone's questions in time. We were just on our way to see Yamuraiha so I can show her how everything has been coming along. You are welcome to join us."
She definitely joined us. As did many others who spotted us or were called over by others in our procession.
We walked through a few library areas, and up a few flights of stairs. As we passed various rooms and areas I was told what or who would be inside, but I wouldn't remember any of the specifics until I had a chance to use the space and explore on my own. What did stick was that most of the classrooms were next to the libraries and the labs were near the offices.
Yamuraiha must have heard our group from down the hall because her head popped out from one of the rooms ahead of us. "What is going on out here??â Then she made eye contact with me. "It's you!!"
That made me smile. I fought back responding 'it's me!' like I would with my friends. "I'm Mori. I'm glad I'm finally getting the chance to meet you, Yamuraiha!â I stopped walking when I got 3 yards/meters away.
She immediately pulled her staff against her chest with both hands. Her shoulders tensed but she had an enthusiastic smile. "The pleasure is all mine!"
Yamuraiha was amazing, smart, and endearing. I really wanted to be friends with her.
I out stretched my hand to shake hers. "I'm really excited to work with you, and learn more about magic even though I'm not a magician."
"The feeling is mutual!â She took my hand more than matching my excitement. And when she released it said, "Since you're here, would you like to see what we've been working on from the scrolls you gave us?"
"Yes please!â
---
The lab she lead us to was a little down the hall. All of my scrolls were spread out on one table and a bunch of notes and different materials were on an other.
Yamuraiha pulled out parchment that had a complicated magic circle written on it. "We can't do much yet, and it still takes a catalyst and many magicians at once to control the amount of magoi safely but our alchemy magic has made a breakthrough from your writing."
She asked a few of the magicians that came with me to join her. They pointed their staffs and wands at the magic cycle. A large crystal in the room started glowing, and the Rukh lit up the space from within the circle. Specks were pulled out of the pile of ingredients nearby -dirt, scraps paper, a small potted plant- and gathered at the center of the circle. The light got too bright for me to look straight at it and when it faded there was a small dark grey cube in the middle of the circle. It looked like a die with no markings.
Yam explained. "After reading about 'atoms' and 'bonds' in your scrolls it was like finding the missing piece. It will still be a long time before we can perfect the process, and we still can't make anything bigger than this yet, but soon we will be able to make anything we want!"
((In the future I intend to: reference more old memes, describe more of my experience with synesthesia, and explain more basic history and science. SO you all have been warned lol))
I had to respond; I couldn't just continue staring in awe. When I tried to answer I ended up gasping since had forgotten to breathe. I chuckled at my own shock as well as the situation. I looked up at them. "You're all amazing to be able to develop this already from the little I wrote!" I looked back at the stone. "I knew I wrote the keys to Yunan's signature alchemy magic in those scrolls, but to think you've already gotten this far with it -its amazing."
With this -when developed farther- we could make certain materials without having to worry about the pollution, and break things down easily so we won't have to worry about garbage piling up everywhere.
"Did you say Yunan? The Magi, Yunan?" Yamuraiha looked at me with wide eyes.
"Yes." It was my turn to explain. "Yunan is able to use alchemy magic like this on a grand scale. In the Fates I read he will have reason to visit Sindria in about 2 years. He creates a cabin and food in the middle of the Palace court yard so he has somewhere comfortable to stay."
The bird in the window ruffled it's feathers.
"Yunan explains the basic concept of how that magic works when asked, and since I know the science of the physical world I know the details to what he was talking about." My smile widened. "I hope my notes were easy to understand. Please let me know if you have any questions."

Do you have any idea how I can become spiritual or improve my spirituality? I've read the four agreements but I need more guidance. I don't know you, but I'm thankful that I have you. Thank you!
Doll Diaries: Spirituality
1. Start a journal.
Iâm always telling you guys this in my advice tag but a journal has helped me so much becoming more aligned. I keep my thoughts, prayers, and my gratitude journal all in one notebook. This truly is key to becoming centered with oneself because you are focusing inward.
You must reflect on what has happened in your life and become introspective. Question yourself, question your life. Look within.
Pray for others, wish love and abundance for those you love.
Always write what you are grateful for every single day or at least have an alarm set at a specific time to make you stop what you are doing, close your eyes, breathe, and list five things you are grateful for.
2. Practice affirmations.
This is something I am a believer in. Affirmations will never steer you wrong because they speak to your truth.
Your affirmations must reflect your core personal values, and what you believe in. They have to reflect what reinforce your self worth and identity.
You actually say affirmations, and you may not even know it.
Negative: No matter what I do, nothing works out for me.
I am so fat, ugly, and stupid.
I always embarrass myself.
By thinking black and white statements, you are affirming something to be untrue. Sometimes, our thinking is impaired by mental illness. Affirmations have helped me in my cognitive impairment. Affirmations are essentially a declaration of your inner desires and what you wish to see in the world. You are manifesting an outcome.
Create your own positive affirmation with me.
* âI amâ is typically the beginning due to its power and weight.(versus I will, or I donât.)
* Affirm what you want â in present tense.
* Be very specific and concise.
* Include an action word (this can also replace I am).
* Include emotions.
Examples:
âąI am attracting abundance into my life.
âąSuccess effortlessly flows into my life.
âąI am compassionate and forgiving; I release all beliefs that prevent me from expressing my highest self.
3. Develop your intuition.
Your intuition is the strongest force you can have. It is the subconscious. It is your guardian angel guiding you, step by step. It is your ancestors.
Always trust that your ancestors will give you a sign or a âknowingâ about any situation. I am extremely intuitive and always know what to do because of my intuition.
In this day and age, we have instant gratification. What sets me apart is that I wait and read a situation before responding. I allow my angels/guides/ancestors to aid me in making an intuitively led decision. I trust myself, I trust the Spirit. Instead of searching desperately for an answer, I let it come to me.
Ask yourself: âWhat is this trying to teach me? What is God/my ancestors/etc trying to tell me?â
4. Inner Journey
You cannot aid a spiritual awakening until you begin to transform yourself inside and out. You have to examine what you need, personally. However, there is no way you can truly go on the journey without sacrificing the old to become the new.
A spiritually powerful person will
âąTake the utmost care of themselves.
âąTune out unnecessary distractions.
âąHelp others.
âąLearn to forgive.
âąPractice patience.
âąBe truthful.
âąBe happy for others.
âąLove themselves.
âąUnderstand the power of now.
This is a journey you must be willing to embark on. Spirituality is from the inside out.
5. The Power of Now.
There is so much power in this very moment. The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle is a book that will give you necessary tools to navigate your spiritual journey, especially if you are a person that feels like happiness never comes or you are enraptured in negative thoughts.
It is easy to be stuck on things that have happened in the past and have hurt you in the past. To truly move on, you must focus on what you can do in this present moment. Youâre not saying your past doesnât exist, youâre using your past as a model for how to handle the present. Focus on what is occurring right now, and the rest will fall into place. This is why meditation and yoga is popular as well with people, because it forces you to be present in this very moment.
The most precious thing in the world is this present moment.
Books:
The Power of Now
The Four Agreements
The Secret
The Alchemist
Movies:
Eat, Pray, Love â A woman travels the world and it changes her life. Learn everything with her. This is a life changing movie as you can learn crucial spirituality lessons without traveling physically.
The Secret â Basically the same as the book. This is the origin of Law of Attraction.
Avatar: James Cameron â as it questions morals and has a strong root in spirituality with the pantheism and environmentalism. Look at it from this angle and you will see the movie differently. Itâs truly emotional and a work of art.

Hand-Carved Heart

Pt. 2 of this post
They found it by accident one day a few months after their search began; they had stopped a couple miles into their hike through a new part of the woods to rest and admire the small waterfall they had come upon. Bella sat on a large boulder to catch her breath and to rub some of the tightness out of her legs, Jacob of course was looking for a way to get up to the top of the waterfall. She cautioned him to not try and use some sketchy looking vine as a climbing rope and he tossed back a joke about her being the klutz in this relationship. Bellaâs responding laughter had come so easily.Â
She could still remember how heavy she used to feel all the time having to put forth so much effort into thinking about every reaction, giving just enough of a smile so people wouldnât worry. Then Jacob came along with his warmth and his crooked grin that made her feel lighter than air, only the feel of his hand in hers or the deep vibrato of his voice kept her feet safely planted on the ground. Being with him just felt as simple and easy as breathing.Â
After the soreness in her calves was mostly gone she joined him at the edge of the waterfall, it really wasnât very large, only about 15-20 feet and with Jacobâs tall stature he wouldnât have any trouble making his way to the top. Still that didnât stop Bella from worrying, but because of her disregard for her own personal safety a few months prior she kept her worries to herself and instead began skimming her hand along the wall of green that crept up the cliff-face. The light scrape of rock and leaves against her hand was a decent enough distraction until her hand fell through a gap.Â
Weird. She thought to herself, curiosity bubbling in the pit of her stomach. She pushed aside a mass of greenery to peer through it, and there tucked neatly behind the wall of trees and bushes was a beautiful moss covered clearing. It was small, only about 6 feet in diameter, and the densely packed trees lining the perimeter provided a canopy of leaves above that sprinkled the light across the ground through the small gaps between the branches. A thick layer of moss covered every inch of the ground including what appeared to be the fallen trunk of a large tree. It was everything they had been looking for. She called Jake over so they could venture in together.Â
They made their way through the foliage into the center of the glade, both with large smiles spread across their faces. The vivid green that coated every bit of the clearing had made it feel so bright and alive, even with the shade provided by the canopy above. They couldnât believe they had found a place so perfect to call their own.Â
Jacob pulled out the map and marked the location of the waterfall with a small heart as Bella cleared a portion of moss off the bark of the fallen tree so she could sit down. As she brushed away the moss an odd mark on the log caught her eye, a heart with two initials and a date was carved deeply into the wood. She smiled and called out that it looked like someone else had already beaten them to this little love-nest. Intrigued, he came to look at what she was talking about. When he saw what was carved into the wood his face paled and tears welled up in the corner of his dark brown eyes. BB+SW 1975 was marked into the bark, clearly having been carved over repeatedly to set it so deeply that even after so many years it remained.Â
Bella rubbed at his back confused at his reaction, but knowing that once he calmed down he would tell her. For now she would just comfort him in anyway he needed like he had always done for her. It was her turn to be his rock to lean on and she was determined to be as strong and sure as he had always been even though it killed her to see him so clearly in pain. She drew idle circles into his back and the slow drag of her hand made it easier for Jacob to slow his breathing and steady himself. After several minutes he finally stopped tracing the outline and turned to look back at Bella. This was where my dad asked my mom to be his girlfriend⊠Bella was stunned, not expecting that to be the reason. She remained quiet though, letting Jacob tell the story at his own pace.
When I was little, I always asked my mom to tell me about their first date as a bedtime story. They were in high school, she was a year younger than him, but they had been friends since they were kids. My dad had finally gotten the courage to ask her out, though she had no clue it was a date because he had acted so nonchalant about it. I asked him about that later and he said he was just trying to act cool because he was so nervous. Jacob chuckled softly and shook his head.Â
When she showed up and he told her they were going on a hike through the woods she was certain that she would just have to try her best and get over her crush on him. Then dad led her to a beautiful waterfall, and next to it under a large tree he had laid out a picnic blanket held down with a basket filled with new art supplies for her. When she turned to look back at him he was holding a slightly crushed bouquet of hand picked wildflowers that he had apparently been carrying in his bag the whole time. He smiled wistfully, remembering the way his motherâs face lit up when she told this story.Â
She said it was the nicest thing anyone had ever done for her, and when he asked her to be his girlfriend she answered by finding a sharp rock and carving their initials and the year into the tree they had been laying under. Every time they came back here they would go over it so it would never fadeâŠÂ I guess the tree finally fell over and new plants grew in its place, hiding it away⊠I canât believe we found this place Bells, I-I never even thought to look for it, thought it would be too sadâŠ
Jacob leaned into Bellaâs side and she wrapped her arms around him. That was the most she had ever heard him talk about his mom, she never wanted to pry by asking for more whenever Sarah was mentioned in conversation by either Charlie or Billy. Though she did have a faint memory of her from her visits as a child, a beautiful woman with deep set lines around her mouth from the toothy and slightly slanted grin she always seemed to wear. Jacob had that same smile.Â
He finally lifted his head from her chest and Bella wiped the remnants of tears from his cheeks. He offered her a faint smile as a thank you and she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. They sat in silence for a couple more minutes before Jacob spoke again, saying that finding this spot felt like fate, like his mom was looking down on him and giving them her blessing. Bella blinked away a tear at that and nodded, promising that they could come back here whenever he wanted.Â
The next time they came to the little clearing hidden away from the world, Jacob brought some of his carving knives to make something to bring back for his dad and Bella brought one of her favorite books to read. They sat in the calm of the forest, her back against the trunk of the tree with Jacob sitting next to her whittling away at a chunk of wood, the rush of water and the rustling of leaves as the wind blew keeping them company.Â
They stayed for several hours, occasionally taking a break from their respective activities to kiss lazily, sometimes Bella would read aloud as Jacob carved. When the sun began to set they packed up their belongings, as they were about to leave Jacob paused and turned back to the tree, he pulled out one of his carving knives and added their initials right next to his parents. Bella pulled him into a tight hug, she couldnât believe she was lucky enough to love this boy and have him love her back.Â
When Bella first moved to Forks she couldn't stand how green everything was, she was so accustomed to the brown desert of Arizona that the emerald colored town was like an assault on her eyes. It was somehow too bright yet unbelievably dreary, like the constant clouds had sucked the life out of the place and the foliage was overcompensating. She used to miss the way the heat waves danced across the gravel lawns, and how the sun's consistent presence felt like an old friend greeting her every morning letting her know she wasn't alone. But here with Jacob, her new sun, in this small section of the woods; green might just be her new favorite color.

Part 1 ⊠Part 2
âSo, How was your first day of school in America?â Lois asked as her small family all sat around the table eating dinner. It was almost painfully ordinary, traditional. A married couple and two kids eating a normal dinner and talking about their day.
All of them appreciated that one piece of normalcy in their worlds of superheroes and villains and PTSD.
Marinette snorted, almost choking on her forkful of food. After managing to somehow swallow without causing herself discomfort, she smiled at her mother figure.
âHonestly? I know Jon could fly and I could teleport to school in practically no time at all, but somehow Damian still manages to seem more impressive.â
âRight?!â Jon agreed emphatically, leaning over the table towards her and almost getting his whole plate of food smashed against his chest. âProbably because helicopters are huge and look awesome, but weâre still just us when we use our powers.â
Marinette nodded sagely at that reasoning as if it was something actually serious. Tikki, who was sitting next to her plate with a half-eaten cookie, giggled.
âThat makes sense. But be careful Kaalki doesnât hear you referring to them as ânot impressiveâââ Marinette was cut off before she could even finish her sentence.
âToo late, I already heard that blasphemy,â the other Kwamiâs voice carried down from upstairs, making Lois and Clarkâs lips twitch up in amusement. âIâm a god, dear, I have even better hearing than Kal-El,â for some reason the little horse god always referred to the boys by their kryptonian names, but they didnât seem to mind much. âNot as impressive as a helicopter, hah! See if I let you use my fabulous powers anytime soon, Guardian or no Guardian.â
Marinette just rolled her eyes. Technically she could just command Kaalki, but that was against her morals and the horse god would never keep her from responding to an Akuma attack anyway. This was just harmless teasing.
And it was really nice in contrast to everything they were used to dealing with.
âOkay, but besides the helicopter,â Clark pressed gently after everyoneâs chuckles quieted down. His face was open with genuine curiosity, and a little bit of worry that Marinette caught onto instantly. âI know Damian isnât always the easiest person to get along with or understand. Did the rest of the day go by alright?â
Marinette actually set her fork down on her plate, her smile turning a little gentle. âActually? Yeah. When we first spoke I thought he was a stuck-up jerk like some of my ex-friends and a bully of mine from Paris. But heâs just not good with people,â Marinetteâs smile turned even softer as she gazed down at the table, at some memory nobody else could see. âIt reminds me of my friend Kagami, from Paris. She acts pretty similar. Really impersonal and prickly on the outside, but once you get to know her sheâs the most loyal friend youâll have. Her mom is really strict though, and Kagami never got to interact with a lot of kids her own age, so she still has issues figuring out how to behave around others sometimes,â Marinette actually ended up laughing a little, rubbing the back of her neck. âWe uh, we actually had a crush on the same person back when we first met and it sparked a pretty rough rivalry for a while. Once we got past that though, we ended up being best friends.â
Jon snickered, trading knowing glances with their parents. They had already agreed that, unless Damian or Bruce told her themselves, Marinette would have to figure out the Batâs identities on her own.
âThat sounds very familiar,â Jon stated with a little nod. âMe and Damian fought when we first met, too. Legend has it that Dad and Bruce, Damianâs dad, didnât get along right away either.â
It was Clarkâs turn to snort. âI think itâs just a Wayne thing,â the man agreed, amused. âThey donât like getting close to anyone right off the bat,â Lois kicked his leg under the table for that pun, but Clark cheerfully ignored it. âIt is pretty funny that you have a similar experience with someone completely unrelated, though. Maybe we should invite her over sometime? Do you know when her schoolâs next break is?â
Marinette sat up straight in her chair, her smirk wide and almost blinding at the prospect of seeing one of her closest friends in person again. They video chatted and called often enough, but it wasnât the same. âActually! Kagami told me that sheâs going to Gotham next month for a fencing competition. Sheâs an Olympic hopeful, you know. She has to make a good enough impression in different national and international competitions to be selected,â Marinette was almost bouncing in her seat, looking like a female version of Jon for a moment with her vibrant blue eyes shining with rare unhindered excitement and her body unable to stay still from the energy.
âI heard that Gotham was holding the World fencing finals this year,â Lois remarked, but kept eye contact with Clark for a moment as the two communicated silently in a way even telepaths couldnât copy. Marinette recognized the hesitance in their faces, and her bouncing stopped immediately. She knew why they would be reluctant to let her go.
âI know Gotham is dangerous and I still have attacks pretty often,â Marinetteâs voice was suddenly soft, but firm in a way that the rest of their little family hadnât heard from her much at all. It made Clark and Lois look at her, waiting for her to finish making her point patiently. âBut self defense isnât really an issue. Even without any powers, without transforming, IâŠâ Marinette took a breath to steel herself before continuing. âI learned martial arts from Maman. And Iâve used the Miraculous so long that all the combat experience of the previous Ladybugs is mostly muscle memory by now. And Kagami is more than just a fencer, her momâs trained her in all sorts of sword fighting her whole life. Trust me, nobody messes with Kagami and gets away with it easily,â Marinette actually looked down at her hands, watching as she essentially had a thumb war with herself to avoid meeting anyoneâs eyes.
âI donât think physical attacks are what weâre worried about,â Lois admitted slowly, frowning. âI mean, yes, itâs a concern. But if I remember the dates for the competition correctly, Iâll be out of town for my first long distance job since you came to live with us. Clark will be at work during the day on the weekend, though maybe he can get a day or two off,â Lois gently worried her bottom lip with her teeth for a second. âI suppose, if Jon wants to go with you, it wouldnât be as much of a problem if something happensâŠâ
Oh. They werenât worried about people attacking her. They were worried about her own mind. Which, after the last few months? Was perfectly fair.
âI donât mind ifââ
But, as life usually ended up, they were interrupted from their peace. Everyone jolted in their seats as the door was unceremoniously kicked down, and a man in his early twenties walked in carrying a mountain of boxes in his arms. Marinette blinked, no longer on guard since the rest of her new family immediately relaxed. But still, she was confused. Nobody said anything about having a visitor today.
âI know, I know. I havenât been in touch for way too long, give us a little forewarning, blah blah blah. I brought presents this time though,â the man said, cheerful and casual and blasĂ©. With the boxes on the center of the dining table, Marinette could finally get a good look at him.
He was probably about twenty four or twenty five, if Marinetteâs ever-sharp eyes were correct (they hardly ever werenât), and his hair was spiked up with a bit of gel, but not too much. Just enough to give it kind of a tousled-rebel look, and it was cropped close to his head on the sides. He had on a black leather jacket with spikes on the shoulders and slightly down the arms, with slightly baggy black jeans and a plain, worn red shirt. Dark black sunglasses rested on the top of his head, even though the sun had been down for a while.
He did not meet the usual Kent aesthetic of a charming, traditional nuclear family. He was more of an⊠oddly joyful punk. It actually gave her slight Luka and Jagged vibes, and made her relax a bit into her chair. Contrary to what most might think, Marinette had a bit of a soft spot for the punk rocker look. Most people, that she had met at least, who wore it on a regular basis were amazing people with great senses of humor and large personalities.
âOld man, I got you socks,â he called out with a lazy smirk, chucking the first small box over at Clark. The man caught it with a fond eye roll.
âYou always get me socks.â
âMaybe if you stopped being boring, Iâd get you something better,â the stranger mocked with good humor. âLois, jewelry that youâll never wear,â he handed the box over to the woman with significantly more care, before sliding over one of the bigger boxes to her as well. âAnd a new camera that you will actually use.â
âHey, Wait a second, you know you donât have toââ
âAnd for the squirt,â the man interrupted without letting Lois finish saying that there was no need to spend so much money. He tossed the last big boxes over to Jon one at a time carelessly, smirking the whole time that Jon playfully scrambled for them. âVideo games, geeky shirts, and inside jokes,â he stated happily.
With the table now clear of boxes, he finally noticed the extra body. He blinked, making silent eye contact with Marinette for a tense moment.
âOkay, sheâs too old to be a secret child. Did someone make another clone? Did Jon get a girlfriend that looks freakishly like a long lost Asian family member? What did I miss?â He asked, never taking his eyes off Marinette. Clark grimaced.
âIf you didnât break your phone so often, maybe we would have been able to tell you sooner,â the man said slowly, cautiously, with his eyes never straying from the stranger. âThis is Marinette. Marinette, this is Connor. Heâs⊠Jonâs brother,â the pause there was a bit odd, and Marinette frowned at the look on Clarkâs face. It was like he didnât know what to say at all, or how to say it. âMarinette is living with us for the foreseeable future. If we get the chance we might officially adopt her, so she isnât going anywhere anytime soon.â
âWoah woah woah, what?â Marinetteâs voice came out a lot squeakier than intended, the girl thoroughly whiplashed by this situation. It was hard to think straight. âIâ we never talked about adoption.â Clarkâs eyebrows furrowed.
âWell, not in as many words,â he conceded slowly. âIt would be incredibly hard, and we wanted to give you time to settle in before asking. But⊠well, youâre officially an American citizen and we all feel like youâre family already. SoâŠâ
âYou wouldnât have to change your name,â Lois was quick to interject, watching Marinetteâs face worriedly. âAnd you can say no. Youâre already a Kent. We would just like to make it official legally, if and when youâre ready.â
âOkay, stop making the poor girl freak out,â Connor interrupted, eyes also on Marinette and gentle in their concern. He gave her a lopsided smile. âIgnore them. Clark never had great timing that wasnât related to legitimate danger. So, sorry I didnât get you anything,â he leaned back casually, thumbs hooked on his jacket pockets lazily. âDidnât expect Iâd have a new sister when I came back to visit.â
Marinette calmed down a little, but emotions still overflowed in her head, her chest still tight and the air feeling too thin. She offered Connor a shaky smile before standing up, looking over to Clark and Lois. âUm, Iâ can Iâ Iâm tired.â
Clark sighed, nodding even as his face fell at Marinetteâs state. âYeah. Weâll talk about the competition some more in the morning, get some rest.â
The girl only nodded before making a hasty retreat up to her room, even forgetting to take care of her only half-empty plate. Tikki did her best to calm her bolder down from her place hidden in the girlâs hair, but it wasnât doing much good. She just needed space, and time to try and process everything.
â*â*â*â*â*
âArenât you cold?â Connorâs voice made Marinette jolt, looking over at him with wide eyes. Nobody had ever followed her on her post-nightmare trips before. She wasnât even transformed. She just sat, in her pajamas, on the empty terrace of her old home. It hadnât been sold yet so she wasnât worried about scaring anybody.
âI⊠should have expected you to be the other Superboy, honestly,â Marinette deflected with a weak smile before turning to look over the city again. She licked her lips, trying to calm herself down. âAnd yeah, Iâm a little cold, but itâs no big deal. Iâll just go back home before it gets too bad.â
âYouâre trembling,â he pointed out casually. And she was, her whole body was practically vibrating against the terrace railing. Marinette only gave out a pitiful laugh.
âThatâs not from the cold.â
Connor only sighed, crossing his arms and leaning back against the wall behind them. Gave the girl a little space.
âWhat did⊠What did Clark and Lois tell you? About me?â Marinette decided to ask tentatively. Connor raised one brow, honestly a little surprised that she didnât also have super hearing to go with her powers. It was slowly becoming more and more obvious that Marinette was not exactly like the other Kents, and Connor only liked the jumpy little girl more for it.
âAs much as they could without feeling like they were crossing a line,â Connor admitted. âThat they took you in after an accident during a metropolis attack a few months ago, when you had nobody else reliable enough to take care of you. That youâre not Kryptonian, but still special and knew about all of our identities already. But strangely enough they didnât mention teleportation or the fact that you were a Parisian superhero, not that Iâm really all that surprised.â
Marinette smiled, snickering a bit at that last part before sobering again. âIs it⊠weird?â
Connor silently examined the girl for a moment, she probably expected him to ask what she meant. And maybe if he was anybody else, he would have.
âTo suddenly come home to a new person that Iâm suddenly supposed to accept as a part of the family? Not really. In fact, youâre probably the most normal surprise Iâve dealt with in years.â
âBut,â Marinette looked back at him, eyebrows furrowed and blue eyes swimming with uncertainty. âBut I just show up out of nowhere, and you really just accept me? Just like that? I mean, youâve known me less than a day and you just saw me teleport to Paris in the middle of the nightâ you arenât worried at all? Or suspicious, orâ you really just accept me just like that?â
Connor couldnât help but chuckle, pushing himself off the wall to lean over the terrace railing with her. âYou know, technically Iâm only eight years old.â
Marinette flinched with surprise at the subject change, eyes wide. âHuh?â
Connor laughed at her confusion, rustling her hair a bit. âIâm a clone. I was made with Supermanâs DNA, and that of another asshole we wonât mention. Donât tell Lois I swore. Anyway, I was âbornâ as a teenager,â he used finger quotations to show that he wasnât exactly born normally. âWith all the mental development and knowledge of a sixteen year old. Pretty much, anyway, but I was still a newborn,â he shrugged. âClark wasnât exactly thrilled. Jon was eight at the time, which is why Clark can never decide if Iâm the older or younger brother, and he wasnât exactly planning on another kid back then. Not to mention the whole âcreated in order to kill Superman if he ever went bad,â and âmight be a spy because I was made by his arch nemesisâ thing,â Connor waved his hand as if this blasĂ© info dump didnât actually matter. Marinette just gaped at him, which made it hard for the guy not to smirk. âPoint is, Clark was suspicious. Didnât exactly want anything to do with me. Canât say I completely forgive him, but itâs mostly water under the bridge nowadays. Especially when we found out that I did have trigger words, and I was unknowingly dangerous. Donât worry, those trigger words were erased ages ago. Anyway, Clark eventually got his act together. Gave me the Kryptonian name Kon-el, had me live with him for a little bit. We worked it all out,â Connor turned back to Marinette, taking his sunglasses off so he could look her in the eye properly. âI really donât think a Ladybug is exactly threatening in comparison.â
Marinette was silent for a moment.
âYou know I could throw you off this balcony, right?â
âEh, I can fly.â
Another moment passed before Marinette couldnât help it, and started giggling. Those giggles turned to laughs, which quickly turned into joyful bellows. Connor joined in, smiling as he laughed alongside her.
âBut⊠you like it with them, right?â Connor suddenly asked, looking over at her. âI know Jon can be a bit overexcitable, and Clark is an annoying boy scout.â
Marinette just shrugged. âWell, itâs not too bad,â she said softly. âI mean, at least neither of them can die by getting crushed by falling debris. So thatâs an improvement at least.â Marinette instantly went pale at her own words, slapping a hand over her mouth. Connor snorted, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
âYeah, thatâs the exhaustion talking. Câmon, letâs get you back in bed before Clark accuses me of corrupting you.â
Marinette just nodded, doing the worldâs quietest transformation before opening a portal back to her room. She was already detransformed, Connor having one hand on her doorknob, when she spoke up again.
âUh, Kon?â She fidgeted, not able to look up at him. âThanks.â
The man just smirked, shrugging his leather-clad shoulders. âThatâs what familyâs for, right?â
Marinette smiled, huffing out a tired laugh. âBy the way? Iâm glad at least one of you Supers has a sense of fashion.â
âWe heard that!â
Connor and Marinette broke back out into guffaws, and the girl couldnât help but think that she was really grateful for her new family. Maybe she wouldnât call Clark dad or Lois mom anytime soon, those wounds were still too raw, but maybe eventually. And sheâd never had brothers before.
Yeah. This was nice.

Part 4
I donât think this ended up as good as the others..? But this is the best way I could write this part. Why is this story turning out longer than expected? Geez I need to learn self control. At least this one was actually kinda fluffy.

Beauyashaweek 2021 day 2 Classical Art: Birthed from Stone
Beauyashaweek 2021 day 2 Classical Painting Art
Technically, the prompt is Classical Painting, but I couldn't really think of anything to write for that so I decided to do Classical Art as the prompt and thought of this. There's more to it, but I decided to cut it short because it was getting too long and not ending. I hope you enjoy my story, if you do please leave a comment, they help more than you know.
It was Saturday, there were a million things Beau would have preferred to be doing on her Saturday, one of the few days off she had, than going to the Zadash Museum of Art. That wasnât fair, she liked the Museum, she liked the artwork, but she hated that she was here on an assignment for school rather than because she wanted to which meant she hated the Museum currently.
Beau had only taken Art Appreciation 110 on her best friend Jesterâs suggestion. The blue tiefling art major thought it would be fun to have her best friend in the class she was TAing and assured Beau that it was an easy class being a 100 level. Beau didnât mind an easy A, she was a double major history and sports medicine in her senior year, she figured she might as well since the rest of her course load was killer.
Unfortunately, unlike most of the classes Beau had taken though her time at Z.U. Art Appreciation 110 wasnât a blow off class that she could just take the tests and write papers to pass with an A. The teacher Mr. Artagan was more eccentric than most of the faculty at Z.U. full of new age ideas how to run his class. No tests at all and only a few papers, which would be fine for most people, but the fact that participation was worth 60% of her grade made the class a living hell for Beau. He thought that children (despite them all being college students) should be rewarded for showing initiative, not just memorizing facts, something that Beau relied on. She was a smart girl who read the assigned reading before the class had even started hoping it would mean she didnât have to show up for class only to have Jesterâs hippy mentor ruin that dream the first day.
Artagan, as he liked them to call him, no mister for him, was one of those âcoolâ teachers who thought they were changing the world in their 100 level course that contained mostly freshmen trying to get their gen ed credits out of the way. The teacher who wore an actual green cloak to class everyday that clashed horribly with his tangle of reddish orange hair, but went well with his inhuman green eye, knew he was put on this earth to reach the kids. Beau hated him instantly and thought if not for his laziness, his biggest weakness other than a wicked case of ADHD that no amount of Adderall would fix, he would probably be a cult leader. Luckily for the class, Jester took her job as his TA seriously, or at least as serious as Jester could leading a class taught by Mr. Artagan about appreciating art, so she was at least a competent teacher when the actual teacher decided to take a nap in the middle of a lecture or jump out the window to chase a bird. She would call on Beau whenever she could because she knew her best friend at least knew the information even though she wouldnât volunteer the information willingly. It saved Beauâs average from tanking in class, but by the time the semester came to a close it didnât look good, Beau was sitting at a low C which again, wouldnât be bad for most people in their blow off class, but was horrible for Beauregard Lionett, the disgraced daughter of the Lionett wine family in Kamordah.
Without getting into it, Beauâs relationship with her family, especially her dad Thoreau, was horrible to be kind. She was only at Z.U. due to both academic and athletic scholarships, and losing one would mean she wouldnât have enough money for her final semester, and she needed at least a B in all her classes if she wanted to graduate. Technically she would still be able to graduate, but her diploma would remain as property of the school until her debts were paid up, which meant she couldnât get a job with her diploma unless she lied on her resume. And while, no one could say Beauregard Lionett was against lying, she wasnât a self destructive teenager anymore she knew it would only hurt her in the long run.
Luckily, having her best friend as her T.A. meant Jester begging Mr. Artagan to let Beau have some extra credit so she could pass. Artagan agreed and told her to write a paper on how a piece of art makes you feel. If Beau didnât desperately need to pass this stupid class she would have thrown it in his face, but instead as a self destructive adult who at least was aware of her money problems, she gritted her teeth and took the extra credit assignment.
Beau had been to the museum at their school a bunch of times, she had given tours for a bit as a work study gig until the people in charge realized how bad she was with people. But there was something about being forced to go there for an assignment that soured the whole thing for her.
âLet's check out the Emon exhibit first Beau,â Jester said taking her and dragging her to the TalâDori section. Beau didnât mind it, but there was too muchâŠ, cleanness in the artwork of their neighbors to the West. TalâDori was really similar to Wildemount in a lot of ways, without the whole equally large enemy neighbor country that youâve been in a Cold War with forever. Emon had its own set of problems, but propaganda or not, whatever Beau read made the other continent sound like a less shitty version of the Dwendalian Empire.
Still, the paintings and sculptures were nice enough to look at even if she didnât have Jesterâs excitement. There were a lot of paintings of naked people in some of the exhibits, which Beau enjoyed since there werenât a lot of men as the subject. She had to hand it to the old masters, they might have been a bunch of old pervs, but they painted a pretty dame without her clothes. Even if they did give their works pretentious names like, âthe Sin of Sarenrae,â or âthe Seducer of Nations,â as if the women who were the subjects were at fault for being beautiful enough for men to want to paint them naked.
Eventually Jester got bored, it didn't take long, and they moved on to the other wings of the museum. âIâm gonna check out the Xhorhasian exhibit for a bit Jester,â Beau said, needing some alone time. She loved her best friend, but the girl could talk forever on her worst day, a day surrounded by hundreds of years of artwork around her meant she hadnât stopped since Beau mentioned her paper.
The Xhorhasian exhibit was small and quiet, they were technically at peace, legally and all that, but two powerful countries canât be neighbors without a lot of animosity. With only the Ashkeeper Peaks between them, there had been a long cycle of wars and ceasefires between the two nations that could break at any moment. That meant not a lot of people congregated in this out of the way exhibit. Most of the artwork and relics were probably technically stolen. Beau wasnât happy about that despite being a citizen of the Empire, born and raised in Kamordah, less than a day from Zadash.
Maybe after she graduated she could break into the museum and somehow send the stolen goods back home where they belonged. Jester would probably be into it, and Veth wasnât exactly opposed to petty theft or grand larceny. But that was for Future Beau with her bachelorâs degree to think about. For now, since they were here, Beau was going to enjoy the things from the Empireâs oldest enemy and learning about them, despite how they were procured.
Technically, the Empire wasnât enemies with Xhorhas, they were enemies with the Krynn Dynasty, the country that had been the dominant power in the Wastes of Xhorhas for thousands of years. There were other people living in Xhorhas that were roped into the conflict, or so Beau heard, most of the stories from the East were about the Cricks or Krynn and the rest were hardly mentioned at all.
As Beau walked around the empty exhibit, for the most part it was bleaker than the other exhibits. Xhorhas seemed like a dreary place, all their artwork lacked the color of other nations artwork. Most of the paintings, few of them as there were, tended to be battle scenes of Drow soldiers in their dark insect like armor tearing through Empire soldiers like paper, it's a wonder citizens of the Empire never come to look at this exhibit. The rest was mostly pottery or weapons, the placards said they were souvenirs from survivors of perilous expeditions into enemy territory. Beau had read them all before.
But surprising her, there was something new in the exhibit. In the center of the exhibit, in a place of honor was a statue with lights pointing down on it. It was made of white marble and depicted the most beautiful woman Beau had ever seen. She was large, tall and wide, if she wasnât made of stone she would tower over Beauregard, with arm muscles larger than Beauâs head. Long wild hair that the sculpture had managed to get across in the marble. She wasnât just standing still either, she was swinging a sword like some goddess of battle. The massive feathery wings exploding from her back, that almost looked soft to the touch despite being made out of rock, made her seem even more divine. But even more than the wings, Beau was drawn to her eyes, they were perfect. Despite being just another part of the woman carved from the white stone, they seemed so dark, holding so much anger and sadness that it made Beauâs chest hurt to look into them, but she didn't have the willpower to look away.
The only flaw Beau could find in the sculpture of the beautiful woman, was the smile. Unlike the rest of the statue, the smile was just off. It was just too plain. The rest of the work from the woman, from the way the marble simulated how her arm muscles tensed like a real person would when swing a sword to fight, to her large soulful eyes, to the massive two-handed sword that looked like it was a real metal blade turned to stone, was the work of a master. Yet the smile was clearly the work of an armature, it looked like the smiles Beau had drawn on posters to look extra goofy to passersby. It didnât fit such a beautiful woman, especially when the rest of her was clearly ready for battle.
It looked so off Beau immediately looked at the placard to find out if it had been damaged in shipping and the archeologist or smuggler did their best to fix it with a smile. The sign didnât say anything about the smile, just that the sculpture had been found 3 years ago in an âexpeditionâ in the south of Xhorhas. The title of the piece was âAngel of Beauty,â which made Beau gag. Sure the woma-, the sculpture was beautiful, but it was such a boring shitty title for such an awesome bitch. She was wielding a sword ready to chop someone to bits and ready to take on a whole army, Angel of Beauty was such a generic title for a real work of art. Skimming the rest of the paragraph for any more info, Beau learned the locals called the work âThe Orphanmaker,â before the archeologist procured the work.
Beau thought it was a bit better, at least more metal and fitting for such a bad bitch, but it still didnât fit the woman or the sculpture in Beauâs unasked for opinion. Still, Beau couldnât let her dumb lesbian brain that made her have a crush on the only more unattainable woman in the world than Jester, stop her from getting her paper done. She took a picture of the placard to get a reference and took a few more of the statue itself from as many angles as she could. You werenât technically supposed to take pictures of the artwork, but no one was around and Beau needed the pictures for her projectâŠ, and nothing else.
Still, the more time she spent with the statue the more Beau was enthralled. The more she stared at it, from every angle it felt like the woman was ready to come alive at any second. That one second Beau would be staring into eyes of white marble and then she would blink alive the next. The skill of the sculptor had practically tricked Beau into thinking the woman would have a pulse if she touched her, like she wasnât carved out of stone.
It got to the point where Beau, who would never break the law, especially when it came to stolen art, got so fed up she decided to touch the statue just to prove to herself it wasnât a real live person. Just a quick tap on the arm to prove to herself that the woman wasnât alive, thatâs all it would take to make her crazy thoughts quiet for a bit.
Unfortunately, or perhaps very fortunate given the outcome, Beau was wrong, very wrong. The moment she touched what would be the flesh of the woman, not her sword, or hair, or clothes, the moment her finger touched the skin on the womanâs arm, it felt warm. So warm that Beau couldnât believe it, until the womanâs pulse woke her up. She tore her hand away like the statue was made of fire, but even as she did, she could see cracks forming in the sculpture starting from where she touched the woman on the arm.
âShit,â Beau yelled, as she slammed her back into the wall, she didnât even know she had backed away that far. She desperately tried to search for glue or anything that she could use to fix the crack she made, but the cracks only got bigger. By the time Beau looked back, they had shot down the womanâs arm and were coming down her body, and Beau only had time to swear every curse she knew in the five languages she spoke fluently (which you would think would take a while, but Beau had always been quick with her mouth and was well practiced with it and cursing) before the statue exploded.
The room was full of dust clouds and the only sound other than the hammering of Beauâs heart was the sound of a large woman breathing heavily. It only took a moment for the dust to clear and give Beau a good look at the Orphan Maker. On a whole, she was pretty much the same as the statue, same massive frame, same gorgeous face that Beau had gone gaga for, same strong arms holding the now sharp steel blade, and older Xhorhasian garb, not from the Krynn Dynasty. Now that she wasnât a statue anymore though, there was a big change, even if she was mostly the same, there was a big difference between a beautiful woman carved out of white marble and a real gorgeous flesh and blood woman.
Her skin was pale, almost as pale as the white marble, but the rest of her and her clothes had splashes of color, mostly black, but not white stone. The biggest change though, other than being a living person of course, was her wings. When she was a statue the wings on her back had been white and feathery, now, they were black and skeletal. As if they had been burnt to cinderâs but still attached to her. She has heterochromatic eyes, one is light green, the other is violet, they are filled with rage, but itâs not directed at Beau, the woman who burst from the marble is just angry.
âWhere am I,â the strange woman demanded once the dust cleared enough to see Beau.
âThe Zadash University Museum,â Beau said trying to stay on the good side of this strange Amazonian goddess that just flexed out of a statue.
âZadash,â the woman said slowly, like it was a foreign word. âThat is a is a name from beyond the mountains,â she asked more than said.
âYeah,â Beau nodded, âor I mean I suppose. Weâre on the other side of the mountains from Xhorhas if thatâs what you mean.â
âThen I am a long way from home,â the strange woman said seeming to calm down.
âAre you a spy from Xhorhas,â Beau asked, immediately realizing how stupid that sounded. Beau could handle herself in a fight, but this woman was massive and had a sword almost the size of her. It would be really hot if it was in a movie or a book instead of real life.
âNo,â the woman shouted, âI am from Xhorhas, but I am no spy.â
âAlright,â Beau said, throwing her hands up to show she meant no harm, âI believe you.â
âI thinkâŠ, I am lost,â the woman said calming down, her voice was a lot softer than Beau would have guessed when she wasnât angry. âI was in my homeland, I was fighting something and thenâŠ, nothing.â
âWell, maybe you could start with something you do remember,â Beau asked, trying to keep things calm. âDo you remember your name?â
âYasha,â Yasha apparently answered after a moment, âYasha Nydoorin. And I think I need your help.â
It probably wasnât a great idea to agree to this, she didnât know Yasha much other than she was big, gorgeous, and popped out of a marble statue. But despite her well above average intelligence, she was also a lesbian with a dumb lesbian brain sometimes, and all she could say was âsure.â Maybe sheâll let Jester drag her off to the museum if this happens all the time.

Day 2: Roceit
@tsshipmonth2020
Day 2: There is a timer that counts down to when you will meet your soulmate
Content warning: vague neglectful/bad home life mentions, liquor store mention (no drinking), implied past parental death.
Word count: 2.6k
When they first met, they didnât like each other. Would they go so far as to say they hated each other? Probably not. But it was no secret that Roman and Janus didnât get along, even if they traveled in a mutual friend group. If the two interacted at all, it was in snide remarks and gripes that had everyone else in the group groaning in annoyance. They just wanted five minutes of peace, thatâs all. Just five minutes.
Roman was too preppy, Janus said. He was loud and abrasive and presumptuous and arrogant, an annoying theatre boy with too much energy. Otherâs feelings came second to his dramatic and overplayed grievances.Â
Janus was too self centered, Roman retorted. He was untrustworthy and creepy and a compulsive liar, a loner with a mysterious backstory. Everything about him was kept hidden under a mask of indifference.
These things were true to some extent, but the group still loved them both too much to reject either one. So they both stayed, bothered by the otherâs presence and unwilling to admit that maybe they disliked the other because they were so similar. They were both extravagant and theatrical and burdened with concealed insecurities, points that all of the rest of the group brought up regularly and they both vehemently denied.Â
It all changed one morning during school, on a regular Wednesday with average weather after an uneventful English class, when Roman got overly excited at the cast list for the newest show being put up and dropped his art bag. Without a second of hesitation, Janus crouched to help him collect the supplies that had flown across the hallway. That was when Romanâs sleeve slid up, as he was reaching for a paint pen that had rolled up against a locker, and Janus nearly choked.
00:00
He blurted out his accusation before he could stop himself.
âYou said you havenât met your soulmate! And you call me secretive?â
Roman snarled almost animalistically, covering his completed timer back up and grabbing the now full bag off the ground.
âIf you must know, my timerâs always been like that. I donât know when it ran out; too young to remember. I donât even know if it was ever counting down in the first place. Defective.â He flicked the numbers on his wrist.
âDoes anyone else know?â
Roman narrowed his eyes at the uncharacteristic sympathy in Janusâ voice. âJust Remus.â
âWhy havenât you told them?â
âWhy all the questions, Fibber on the Roof? Since when do you care about anything I do?â
Janus was quiet, breathing out a frustrated breath before folding down the bottom of his gloves, the same gloves that Roman taunted daily for making him look like every single Disney villain, the same gloves that made Roman turn to the rest of the group and insist that the guy was hiding something. Turns out he was right.
âMy timerâs out too. I was too young to remember as well.â
Roman wasnât able to respond, and Janus was surprisingly relieved. The silent solidarity in the otherâs eyes was enough of an olive branch, just another thing they had in common. It was a pain the others didnât understand, a frustration that couldnât be fixed. So if from that point on, the bickering lessened and they finally allowed their shared interests to overlap, they surely wouldnât be the ones to bring it up. Â
Thatâs how they found themselves, almost half a year later, sitting on the swings of a musty playground near Janusâ house, watching the sunset in an unspoken agreement to put off going back until absolutely necessary. It was just another thing they had in common; shitty home life. They didnât talk about it much, because they knew how much it sucked to discuss, so they let the facts stand at the forefront and the nitty gritty emotions and smaller mental repercussions stay healthily buried. What did it matter? Their parents were awful, ânuff said.Â
âI just think itâs ridiculous, the amount of time he spent writing it.â
âHe wrote and composed an entire play single handedly, J! Not a single word of it is dialogue, and it all rhymes! You try doing that in seven years.â
âIâm just saying, doesnât it come to the point where you have to admit itâs too much work? Did he even know for a fact it would be successful?â
âHe made it work, didnât he? Thatâs what faith is for.â
âI wouldnât have done it.â
âThatâs what makes Lin Manuel Miranda a god, and you, a worm.âÂ
Janus gasped and raised a mock hand to his chest, drawing a loud laugh from Roman. While the shorter of the two still wore his gloves daily, the other had slowly gained the confidence to wear short sleeves and display his empty timer, though god help the fool who asked him anything about it. The conversation with the group had gone well, though Jan hadnât admitted that his situation was the same. They hadnât known him as long, and they both agreed that it was a sensitive topic. Roman didnât push him.Â
âThe sunâs setting.â
âI had no idea,â Janus smirked, although the implications of the fast approaching darkness made a pit settle in his stomach.
âWe donât have to leave yet. I just donât want you to get in trouble.â
âI donât really get in trouble that often,â The shorter murmured, kicking his feet in the dust under him, âSheâs more just... forgetful. Ignorant. Iâm not even sure she fully knows I exist all the time.â
Roman raised an eyebrow at the first bit of information heâd learned about Janusâ home life, besides knowing it was just âbadâ. He was debating between quietly prodding him to continue or to just let it sit when Janus made the choice for him.
âThe other day she asked me to go to the liquor store for her and literally didnât believe me when I said Iâm only eighteen. Then again, sheâs forgotten my birthday for the last, what, ten years? So I guess she just lost track, got ahead of herself. I donât know.â
âWhenâs your birthday?â It was the only response Roman could think of.Â
âAugust seventh,â He whispered, almost like it was a dark secret he was scared to admit.
âWait, actually?â
Janus turned to him, eyebrows furrowed, âYeah?â
âYouâre joking. This is a joke, right?â
âI can probably find my birth certificate if you need proof. Why are you losing your shit?â
âThatâs my birthday too!âÂ
Janus matched Romanâs face splitting grin with one of his own, his worries slipping away. Theyâd all been irrational anyways, so good riddance. He quickly settled his face into a more neutral one, the unusual expression hurting his cheeks. A calm air settled between them as their eyes locked, almost in a trance, before Janus snapped out of it and turned his attention to the pink hues of the dimming sky.
âWhat are the chances?â
There was a lot Roman didnât know about the newest member of the friend group, he realized after dropping Janus off at home and starting the walk back to his. Usually heâd pop in his earbuds, taking the longest back roads and detours to put off arriving even more, but today his head was lost in his thoughts. What else didnât he know about the blond boy he was so infatuated with?
Two weeks later, Janus edged the front door of his house open, calling out a tentative âMom?â before pushing it open all the way and pulling Roman in. There was no answer through the empty halls so he yanked the taller boy upstairs, praying that his mom wasnât home instead of just ignoring his call. It wasnât until he shut his bedroom door and leaned heavily against it did he remember to breathe, meeting Romanâs eyes shakily.
âSorry.â
âItâs okay. I get it. Parentâs areâŠâ
âYeah. Itâs better if she doesnât know youâre here.â
Roman nodded, finally looking around the room. One wall was completely adorned with old records, some cracked in places or missing pieces entirely. He found himself drawn to it, running a finger down the closest one to him as Janus collapsed on his bed, ruffling the yellow blanket beneath him. He took a moment to pull off his gloves, revealing his soulmark, a secret that only Roman had the honor of seeing. An old jukebox stood proudly in the corner, covered in a fine layer of dust.
âYou definitely have an aesthetic,â Roman hummed, taking notes on the implications of the dust and not approaching the old machine. If Janus didnât touch it, neither should he. Instead he sat down at the otherâs desk, spinning himself lazily in the chair.
âIt was all my dadâs old stuff. He loved music and antiques a lot. The record player was his, too.âÂ
He followed Janusâ gaze and nodded, overly tempted to take one of the records from the wall and trying to play it, but knowing that would only end badly. The record player was covered in the same thin sheet of dust.Â
âHoly Hera, is that a baby picture of you?â His mind, apparently unable to stay on one topic for more than ten seconds, had decided to focus on the framed picture on the bedside table. He crossed the room and sat next to Janus on the bed, leaning closer to the photo but not daring to touch it. He inspected the woman, who could only be Janusâ mother, holding the tiny bundle and smiling weakly at the camera, her eyes tired and hair tied in a messy bun.
âYeah,â Janus rubbed the back of his neck sheepishly, âThatâs the only picture I have with her. She hates cameras, always said she was self conscious and shit. It sucks that the only one I have, I donât even remember taking.â
Roman knew he should respond to the surprisingly vulnerable statement, but his eyes had zeroed onto the still slightly slimy, wrinkly baby in the photo. Its little fists were tucked against his face, eyes closed peacefully, a moment of bliss that time forgot. Thatâs not what caught his attention, though. He squinted, edging just that much closer to the photo.
âYou were born at Jacob Banks Memorial Hospital? I thought you lived in Chicago before you moved out here.â The tiny golden embroidery in the edge of the blanket was just focused enough to make out, as if he didnât have an identical blanket at home, stashed under his bed in a box of other memories that were too special to throw away. Heâd run his finger over the stitching a hundred times, reread the words and committed the blanket to memory, just for that high of simple childhood. And now, here was Janus as a baby, swaddled in the same blanket.
From the same hospital.
From the same day.
âYeah. My parents were visiting relatives in town when my mom went into early labor. We didnât end up actually moving here until a couple years ago.â Janus didnât seem to notice the gears turning in Romanâs head as he reached forward, plucking the picture off the table and bringing it closer to his face. He tapped the glass, just above baby Janusâ arms.
âRight there, my timer. Itâs just a few minutes left. I met my soulmate as a baby and no one cared enough to check who it was.â
âJanus.â
âI called the hospital as soon as I was old enough to comprehend, but they said they couldnât help me. Didnât have a record of anything to do with soulmates. Some help, huh.â
âJanus!â
âWhat? Iâm trying to be melodramatic, Roman.â
âThatâs the same hospital I was born in.â
âOkay? Itâs the only one in town, Iâm not overly surprised-â The lightbulb went off, and his head jerked up. âOh.â
âYeah, âohâ.â
They both were quiet for a moment, like the whole house was holding itâs breath, before Janus finally spoke, his voice a choked whisper. âImagine with me, if you will,â he murmured, taking the picture and inspecting it closely. Not so much for sake of searching for details he wouldnât have missed the hundreds of hours he spent inspecting the photo, more so just to avoid looking at the person beside him. âTwo babies, born in the same place on the same day, put into the same small hospital nursery. They see each other, and click, their timers are out. Except both their parents donât give a flying ratâs ass-â
âAnd so they never realize they met, and live their entire lives shrouded in mystery,â Roman finished quietly, suddenly terrified of the new ice they were walking on.Â
âHypothetically, of course.â
His head snapped up and the spell was broken, meeting Janusâ pale eyes and jumping to his feet, flapping his hands to dispel his nervous energy. âOkay. Okay! That could⊠that could make sense! All signs point that way, right?â He began to pace the length of Janusâ room, head tilted towards the ceiling, âAnd I mean, god, Iâve liked you for how long now? So Iâm definitely not upset!â
âYouâve what?â
âAlright, so we can call the hospital, or go there, or something! Iâm sure they can tell us how many babies were born that day, that doesnât seem like confidential information, right? And if it was just us three, you, me, and Remus, then thatâll settle it!â
âWait, no, Roman, stop!â
Janus launched himself at Roman before he could click the call button on the Google search of the hospital, already dedicated to his plan. He ripped the phone from his grasp and tossed it onto the bed after pressing the power button, grabbing Romanâs hands tightly.
âJan, what the hell? Thatâs the only way weâre going to know for sure if weâre-â
âBut what if weâre not?!â
The two settled into silence after the outburst, searching each otherâs faces intently. They both shared scared expressions, eyes wide with excitement and nervousness, the possibility of years worth of questions finally being answered. The promise that their two soulmarks werenât dysfunctional, werenât broken, and fate that had led them together one way or another.Â
But what if they werenât?
âWhat if itâs a coincidence? What if you find out that your mom checked out before mine even got there, or our paths never could have crossed, or there were twenty babies born that day and thereâs no sure way to know that we are each otherâs soulmates? What if you find out that your soulmark said two years and mine ran out with someone else completely?â
âYouâre starting to sound like Virgil,â Roman said quietly, almost fondly, a gentle smile tugging at his lips.
âRoman, if youâre my soulmate, Iâd be elated,â Janusâ hushed tone matched his, âBut I donât know what Iâll do if I build my hope and then find out itâs not true.â They were quiet again, and Janus was suddenly hyper aware that he was still holding Romanâs hands, a furious blush rising to his cheeks. He fought the urge to look away, look anywhere other than Romanâs bright eyes, because this was the closest theyâd ever been and he was scared one flinch might break the charm they were in.Â
âWe donât have to check,â the taller whispered, âIf you are, Iâm content just⊠believing it.â
âYou always were a cheesy romantic.â The phrase was meant to be cutting, but the uncontainable grin across his face greatly lessened its impact.
âIâm a Disney lover, what can I say?â
Janus snorted, dropping his head on to Romanâs shoulder, his heart nearly stopping altogether when the taller boy wrapped his arms around him and pulled them a step closer together. âSo weâre agreeing on this? That weâre soulmates?â His voice was muffled against Romanâs shirt.
âAs far as Iâm concerned, yes. Fuck the system, right?â
âOverthrow the government. Commit arson in the name of anarchy. Society is a prison.â
âDramatic, and thatâs coming from me,â Roman drawled, rocking them back and forth slowly, dancing to unheard music, âHey, Janus?â
âYes?â
âCan I kiss you?â
âI thought youâd never ask.âÂ
