Im going insane aboht revue starlight again. I don't know how the fuck to explain this.
In the anime, the kukugumi are trying to win the lead role in an in-universe play named starlight. the characters all have extremely on-the-nose parallels to their characters in the play. starlight is just an analog for the story itself right.
the movie takes that shit one step further. the movie IS the play. Being a stage girl in an act of itself. The greedy audience wanted more so they're performing again.
do you get what I mean. The 4th wall. they didn't smash it but they're aware of it.

hi welcome to sleepy girl bracket! im your friendly very very sleepy mod
i love when im playing a game or watching an anime and find a sleepy girl trope. they usually end up being one of if not my favourite character!
and though sleepy girls are not naturally prone to violence tumblr loves battle… and i dont know every sleepy girl in existence, so it gives me a chance to meet more :)
submissions close 9/23!
heres a few rules and regulations to submitting! we must dream safely my loves:
im okay with real people being submitted, since this isnt a particularly invasive sort of thing to say about someone imo
you can also submit boys, sleepy girl is a state of mind
prime sleepy girl behavior is having being sleepy/lazy be a core part of the submission— a running gag, something related to backstory, or a current story element (like, sleeping beauty would count as a sleepy girl)
but if a submission’s visuals/theme/etc are heavily connected to sleep and dreams i will also consider them :)
kanata konoe (love live) and yuyuko tanaka (revue starlight) will already be included, youre free to still submit them if you really want, but i dont need you to!
im sure theres sleepy girls abound in eroges, so on the off chance you submit from an eroge, please just specify that its 18+ :) sleepy mod is 18 but i think its valuable to denote
and with that, here’s the submission form! i think i’ll close them around the end of this month :)
(tagging other poll blogs for exposure hello thank you and i hope you dont mind me tagging! @obscurecharactershowdown @moon-swag-tourney @overworkedblorbobattle @battle-couple-battle @who-do-i-know-this-man @redandbluegaycompetition @meanpurplepoll @twintournament)
#polls#character bracket#love live#revue starlight#now tagging fandoms i didnt include by default but i know have sleepies#obey me#genshin impact#magical girl raising project#bandori#<- been a while since ive PLAYED bandori but i swear they have a sleepy#fandom bracket#fandom#ok. thats enough reach probably

I've been meaning to get into the re:live game story for a while now, but I don't know how necessary the event stories are in comparison to the main and school stories...
do you have a recommended reading order for main story and events if the timeline makes them interspersed?
Uhh, there was this one good google doc that had a bunch of stuff like what stories were important for each character, but I cannot find that right now so I'll do my best from memory but honestly I might miss a couple things so my bad.
Edit: thank you @pallastronomy for finding the doc in question, i really wanted to read that again too
To read it you can go to the wikia, read it on karth.top, or look up the parts on Youtube. That last one might be the best since you'll get the full visual novel experience.
So first off I would suggest reading the first part of the story, so Main Story chapters 1-6. Well, suggest is a strong word. I think those chapters kinda suck, but I guess they're necessary for the premise and to introduce the characters? But then again they abandon the original premise half way in favor of the performance festival so whatever. And if you want a better introduction to the characters you should read the School Stories (ignoring SJH) and also maybe watch Shoujo Cante All Starlight. So really I don't suggest you read those chapters but
I think at this point you are can read the event stories from "Hello to Halloween" to "Surprise! Rehearsal Friends!"
And you don't need to read them all, but they're fun! I couldn't really tell you which ones are super important to the plot, sorry about that. Honestly my personal opinion at this point is to just pick a couple characters you like to follow and read their stories. You can see who participates in each one on the Revue Starlight wikia
Plus, character card bond stories! Each event has a couple gacha cards they're trying to sell, and sometimes they're not super related to the story, but sometimes they are. If someone references something that happened off screen, it either happened in an earlier event or in the bond card, but I'd still only read the bond cards once you're done reading the event is over since otherwise they can be spoilers. Just think of those as prequels instead of preludes.
Then at this point you can read Main Story Chapters 7-11. And I really do think you should read these since they are juicy. There's a new plot and we really get to dive deep into the ReLive characters and see their individual pasts and why they now stand on stage. It's great.
Now for the Event Stories, feel free to read any story from "Starry Diamond Tragic Orion" up until "Royal Retainer"
Although now I gotta bring up some caveats. Anything with Seiran is not going to matter to the main plot of ReLive, and if you're curious about them, then that gets into Stage Play Territory which is much easier to follow but not in ReLive.
And honestly same with the Seisho only stories. They're fun, don't get me wrong, but they kinda don't affect the developments of the cast at all.
Starry Diamond is a live show that had some Revues, so some of the relive events are just rehashings of those. Except Venus & Cupid Story, which is a sequel to Zeus no Chuusai from the Starry Diamond Live, and that revue is actually super important to the Yumeoji Sisters's story but it is not in ReLive.
And once you've had your fill of those stories, you can start reading Main Story Chapters 12-18, Arcana Arcadia. And this one is really good. Iirc, the main revue starlight writer came in for these parts. There's some info that directly leads into the movie. And it's honestly great.
But the issue is that there are intermission bond stories that need to be read in the middle of the chapters. If you are reading it online that can be kind of pain, but in the game I think it's in the right order? I could not say for sure since I don't actually play it. Anyways, here's the vague order according to the wikia, but I'm not 100% on this
Chapter 12: 1-2
Chapter 13: Tower, Hermit, Empress, 1-3, High Priestess, 4-5, Magician, 6-9, Hanged Man, Strength, 10-15
Chapter 14: Wheel of Fortune, Chariot, 1-2, Lovers, 3-14, Faith, Hierophant, 15
Chapter 15: 1-2, Devil, Sun, Justice, 3-15
Chapter 16: Death, Charity, 1-15
Chapter 17: Temperance, 1, Fool, 2-4, World, Judgement, 5-15
Chapter 18: Hope, 1-9, Emperor, 10-14, 15/Moon
So yeah, after this you have basically free reign to read the remaining event stories. The next big ongoing plot seems to be about Siegfeld Junior High, but that one also isn't really connected to the previous stories at all.
Also some cards have connecting bond stories even without events, such as the Frontier Rangers, Orpheus, Camelot, Snow White, and Yin-Yang.
But for real, I think the best way to get into the story is to read the main story and then see what characters you like. Then you can read along all their bond stories and events that they star in, and maybe you'll find other characters that stand out. If you are missing any information, usually characters will reference whatever they are talking about, so you won't be completely lost.
So yeah, I hope you have fun with the relive story! It touches on a lot of the themes from the show and honestly I just really liked seeing the characters again. And also Arcana Arcadia is great, just so great.

Dear Quizno's, if you would be so kind:
💖🍰🌝
hahah thank you for playing along!
💖 What do you like most about your own writing?
pffft um that because i've thankfully always stayed loyal to myself, they're exactly the types of fics i like to read, so their value actually increases over time. i read my own fics and i enjoy that i can do that and entertain myself as planned. especially when i forget what i've written and i go "wow! i wrote this! and it's exactly what i wanted to happen in the fic!"
in terms of perhaps style and technique, that they all somehow miraculously are paced well enough to feel organic and not rushed. considering the chaotic out-of-order style of writing that i do, this is really very much a miracle tbh
🍰 Name one of your fave comfort fics (doesn’t have to be your all time fave).
like mine? or like someone else's? well you get to have both
mine: don't touch me, touch me more that i wrote for a rare pair in revue starlight remains one of my most favorite "maya unclenching" fics that i take a lot of comfort in. i really said "let me pretend i invented physical intimacy"
also mine: rituals for swanqueen is an incomplete vignette style slowburn of a story that i have. it's incomplete because i don't actively write for it only when i feel the tenderness flowing extra but it's such a comfortable universe that i actually sit in it for a while even as i think about other swan queen fics
not mine: Something Borrowed by janewithawhy is probably one of the most tender and quiet and understated fics there are and i love it so much i just cradle it in my heart
🌝 Who is one character you haven’t yet written for that you would like to?
um for supergirl i'd say probably sam or brainy, maybe nia. i've technically had them in small spots in existing fics but i'd like to center them a bit more. even sam in my rojarias fic is very much at the mercy of andrea's thoughts and emotions
i hope to have a sam-centered fic before the year ends but who knows (she's gonna be in a kind of supercorp triangle of sorts but i am not emotionally ready to write that fic just yet)

the revue starlight and in stars and time parallels and analysis post
aka me rambling about how much I love both pieces of media cause I just finished ISAT for the first time today
While playing it I could not help but notice similarities between it and revue starlight, so here we go
heavy spoilers for both
also note that I haven’t like. fully 100% isat yet so I may be missing some things! don’t tell me them! I want to find them out for myself!
The Stage
Revstar’s whole thing is about theatre. That’s clear in the first 5 minutes of the show. But deeper than that, Revue Starlight itself is Starlight, the play within the story. Each character is Flora, Claire, the Tower, one of the Goddesses, all meeting on the night of the star festival. They all have a role to play— and deviating from it is terrifying. They have been the same characters, the same people, for so long, that when Hikari appears and upsets the order of everything, the entire narrative of the play is destroyed and reborn anew. The ending is changed.
What was once an ending of despair, where Flora and Claire were destined to part because of their longing for their wish, becomes an ending of love. Where they choose each other rather than the stars high above.
What was once a clear line of victory, Nana winning the Revues, annihilating everyone in her path, and being granted her eternal wish, becomes messy. She cannot win against Hikari. She cannot win against Karen. She never will. They’ve deviated too much from the script, and then her reenactment is over. Her wish can no longer be granted.
Flora and Claire’s promise to meet again is the same as Karen and Hikari’s, a promise that is forgotten. Was forgotten and unfulfilled for years and years, as the loops continued, until Hikari herself— with the power of a Giraffe, of course, to end those boring reenactments— intervened.
Siffrin forgot their wish for a long time, as well.
In Stars and Time is different— theatre isn’t really brought up until the library, where it’s mentioned that Siffrin enjoys watching plays. And over time, to him, the loops become one. He is an actor performing his lines, just as his friends are, and there can be no deviating from the script. Any scene that goes wrong must be erased and redone. Over and over. Say the line, why aren’t they acting properly, Act I, Scene I, Siffrin wakes up, it all repeats over and over. Encore.
Loop mentions, as time goes on, that Siffrin has become both a director and an actor.
Just like Nana. The director of her own reenactments of Starlight. She’s seen it all before, over and over, and she still loves it just as dearly. Loves her friends just as dearly. Everyone is safe acting out the roles she created for them. She will always win the Revues, and everyone will always perform Starlight together, on repeat.
The two of them both started as actors in their stories. But, they memorized their lines well, and then directed the others to perform the way they wanted them to. Perfectly.
When the characters start to deviate from their roles, when you don’t know how they will act anymore, when you don’t know how to act… what do you do?
You keep going until you can restart it from the beginning, of course. Next time, you can fix everything that went wrong.
There will always be a next time. Right?
Stars
Stars are so important. They symbolize wishes. Forgotten promises. Despair. Blinding light. Power.
In Revue Starlight, those two wish-granting red stars are blinding. The wishes they grant are truly unattainable. And if you keep longing for them, you’ll go blind. If you keep continuing your reenactments of the same year over and over and over, you’ll become blind to everything else around you. All you can do is continue climbing the tower, to reach those stars you so desperately long for. It’s unending. You will never reach them.
With isat, a red star appears— the first splash of colour— when Siffrin is trying to remember their home for the first time, with the King. They fight to remember, but that blinding red star… it’s too much. It’s all too much.
But, stars are unfeeling. They don’t have a will, so why do they have so much power?
I’m sure I could connect this all to Loop in some way but I uh. still do not get their whole deal. I think I missed a lot of their dialogue unfortunately when playing so I gotta do a new game to get it all :(
They definitely care for Siffrin a lot, that’s for sure.
Time
Yayyyy timeloops!!! They’re trapped in a timeloop of their own making! They’re too afraid to leave!!!
Nana and Siffrin both created these loops. To act out their favourite play, with their beloved friends, forever and ever and ever and ever and
The loops come from a place of love and severe abandonment issues but that’s just what being in late teens/early twenties is like you know. sometimes you just start a timeloop out of love!!
It’s selfish. It’s for the sake of protecting them from the future, from their inevitable parting.
With Nana, we unfortunately don’t get to learn too much about how she changed over the course of the timeloops. She started out much more withdrawn, and hesitant to call her friends her friends, but… of course, once the loops begin, she becomes confident. Always helping others with their problems. She knows they will always love her as long she stays the same. Fun fact! The only time we ever see the “original” Nana is in flashbacks in episode 7 and the prologue manga! That’s it! She’s been irreparably changed and she cannot go back!
Of course, if her friends found out they probably wouldn’t like her anymore. They’d probably abandon her. Well, it’s not like they’re not going to ever find out! It’ll all restart, even if they did.
I feel like Siffrin just. Cannot relax. Ever. Nana becomes relaxed in her eternity, but Siffrin is always on edge. Afraid to mess up their lines. Afraid they will find out. Eventually, they simply don’t care anymore, cause they can loop back and fix it all, but still… that anxiety is always present.
Nana’s stakes are much lower than saving the entire country and all the people that have been frozen in time, compared to Siffrin, so that makes sense
An Eternal Wish
They got what they wished for. To stay with their friends. For eternity. To never part, to never be left behind, to never forget ever again, to never be forgotten ever again.
But their wish was not what they wanted. Or maybe it was, in some way. Still. It was not what they needed.
Their friends will always stay the same. Their friends will never do anything more with their lives. They will always stay with you. As they are. They won’t grow old, they won’t learn, they won’t choose anything you don’t want them to, they will always love you.
They really aren’t alive, at that point. They truly are just actors.
But they still matter. They matter!!!
When the script deviates, the play ends, everything is burned into ashes, they are reborn into themselves again, they still choose you!!
They still love you!! It isn’t because of your eternity, your direction, your acting, nothing! It’s because it’s you!
And you’ve protected them for so long, in your own twisted selfish yet self-destructing way, yes, but you still protected them the only way you knew how.
You love them. And they love you.
And it’s terrifying.
They want to destroy your wish.
That wish you’ve held onto for all these years.
To rewrite the ending. So that everyone can be saved.
Even you.
And that’s all you needed, in the end.
You will inevitably part in the future, but for now… you can allow yourself to love, and be loved. To open up. To truly listen, to see how your friends have changed, how they will continue to change. And even when they all go off on their own paths, you will still love them. And they will still love you.
They see you, now. Not the character you’ve been acting as for so long.
okayyy that’s all for now! These are just my thoughts as I’ve just finished the game. I’m already planning to do a second playthrough so. yeah. I’ll probably change some of my opinions and interpretations of events when I get there!
game was good. 10/10 👍
revue starlight continues to remain in my mind forever when interacting with all media
#kris speaks#kris gaming#revue starlight#in stars and time#hopefully this is comprehensible!#I just wrote it all out in one sitting late at night so#we’ll see in the morning lol

I'm currently in the middle of writing about Ninjago au. Centering the relationship between Lloyd and Harumi has a strong chokehold on me that I can't believe. I betrayed myself by shipping them with the rest of the ninjas and testing Lloyd about his crush. Its was a slap in the face. She was the villain of the second season. I was shipping them hard even though I have a love-hate relationship with shipping myself.
Bleeding Hearts au -
What if Lloyd and Harumi had a final fight where Lloyd, because of the saying "beware the anger of a good man times 100," confronts Harumi about her actions. Harumi gets her own version of the cave and now has a scene where Lloyd makes her see the pain she has caused. He points out all the people she hurt with the destruction of the Jade Palace, how she only focused on the king and queen, but her plan killed others who were innocent. He mentions that the people of Ninjago asking her if their praise Garmadon, and how, as saviors of Ninjago, people are living in fear as they know they're imprisoning people who should be against them. A protector is supposed to bring hope, not fear. Also, he is angry at her and the Sons of Garmadon.
He Agree with her about his father being a savior. He did it twice. As the great devour attack, he too saw him as a savior, but saw the good in him when he sacrificed himself to repent for what he did when he was evil, basically. They see what they did as disrespectful.
He's done playing nice with that girl, and I really want him to put on the mask of hatred, or else we'll have more glimpses of his oni side, showing that he hates her just as much. In her diary, it's explained that he seemed to care for her, but he talks about how she destroyed two people, Hutchins and him, who actually loved and cared about her. Let's be real, I love Lloyd, but sometimes I feel like he's too passive. He needs to go apeshit once in a while because the villains mess with him too much, and at some point, they're going to realize that they should stop mentally torturing him. He basically becomes her villain in a way. They say he was mostly inspired by a piece of fan art where Lloyd is a manifestation of Harumi's guilt. Also, he actually does try to rebuild his relationship with Garmadon.
My second AU is inspired by Revue Starlight. Funny enough, I've actually finished writing the first chapter for this one. In this AU, the two main characters are essentially like Karen and Hikari, but with a twist - they have bad blood and attend rival schools. In this version, they actually meet as children in a gift shop, where they both see the same play and quickly become friends, promising to become actors together like in the anime. I'm still working out the details, though. I haven't figured out Harumi's relationship with Lloyd in this AU because, unlike in the show, he isn't responsible for killing her parents. Her parents died in a car accident, which doesn't really involve Lloyd at all, so I don't know why she's so angry at him. I don't have much else planned for it, but I really like this idea. I was actually inspired to write this while re-watching some Revue Starlight revues, specifically the revue of the hunting. Is this is Anime is like figure out your problems via song. I feel their relationship is much better in this version and they actually do forgive each other.
if you guys wanna give me some suggestions, I like it to give us some suggestions of some revue titles.

Friends to Lovers Tournament: Round 3, Side A, Match 4
propaganda under the cut!
Junnana:
Oh they are so very silly and I adore them. They basically spent the anime being the most married couple there, the game amplifying that and the movie burning that all to the ground (or Nana did that) before vowing to start a new later. They're just a girl reaching for her dreams without a ton of natural talent and a girl who enjoys helping her friends shine instead of herself despite being super skilled but even though they have slightly different goals on the stage they both respect each other so very much to the point where things only go wrong in the movie because Nana lost a bit of the respect for Junna that was always so fundamental in their dynamic. The Overture manga gives a bit of insight into what their early interactions were like especially in their respective focus chapters (3 and 9), with 3 showing that Nana was planning on becoming their class president rather than Junna but stepped down just because she had so much trust in her abilities while still making it clear that Junna could rely on her while in 9 the mutual reliance came back in the form of Junna being the one to make Nana realize she wasn't alone. Carrying onwards to the anime, some time before the whole thing, Nana decided "hey time loops are pretty cool" because she was afraid of her and her friends growing up and separating. This was not a fact known by anybody but her and that one giraffe and did not affect the early plot, where for the most part Junna was more focused on due to her struggles being highlighted from the moment revues were introduced and Nana was just constantly around her. Then Junna ended up being the first person Nana actually told about them directly (and not in a very vague way in a revue because otherwise Hikari would be the first) because it was looking like said loops were about to end because the childhood friends to lovers dynamic as a whole decided to say nuh uh to her. Then she did in fact lose her next revue which made the idea of continuing her repetitions a little impossible but Junna ended up recovering from that whole shock pretty quickly, and went to comfort Nana and help her learn to start anew.
Then there's the game which. yeah there's so much stuff in there that I can't even explain it all. In the main story we get the arc of Nana starting her overprotective bs once again, getting stopped and then being given more courage to move forward by Junna since she was realizing that she kind of messed up (since she decided to object to the concept of plays just having lead actors in general. as you do), but there's so much stuff outside of the main story. Highlights include: Junnana literally making up their own ship name, Nana deciding the best way to practice for a role centered around an observant character was to observe Junna specifically, Nana writing a self-indulgent Phantom of the Opera adaptation with herself as the Phantom and Junna as Christine in an event where it turned out she relates to the Phantom (red flag #1 as far as I'm concerned) and wrote Christine based on Junna (Junna was very okay with this but I find it hilarious that she made her adaption of a famous play basically self insert fanfiction), the actual Junnana kiss (stage kiss?? real kiss?? we'll never know), the Valentine's Day event where Junna kept saying things like "oh I'd go to any lengths for Nana" while talking about making chocolate of all things, the time Junna talked about how she wouldn't let anybody take her place of staying right by Nana's side if she had to because she loves being there completely out of the blue to Nana's ex of all people (not a canon ex but a lot of people who know about her whole deal with Nana at least agree that they had something going on. and let me tell you Junna telling the person who constantly regrets not having the strength to remain by Nana's side how much she loved being with Nana was not a smart choice, even though Hisame, the girl in question, took it very well), the Steins;Gate collab where a good chunk of the plot is just Junna being worried about Nana, a play where it turned out that the whole time Junna and Nana had both taken inspiration from each other for their roles, the time they had to actively stop themselves during separate interviews from just rambling about each other, etc. There's so much. Also I forgot to mention it during the main story part but there's also an alternate universe briefly discussed where one of their friends just does not exist so Nana is one of the two best actors in the class and gets the lead role in the play they perform every year, and there's a scene after their performance where Junna talks about how, in the play which is a tragedy involving two lesbians in love, Nana's performance made her think that, if she had stood as her co-star, she would have simply been built different and prevented the tragedy from happening. The plot ends with one character falling form a tower and another being imprisoned within it, and Junna is like "if I was this tragedy and I was with you I would have simply taken your character's hand and never let her go". They're just so married in the game and I can't believe them for it
And then there's the movie. We don't talk about the movie but I kind of have to. Okay so you remember those two friends I was talking about who act very married and ultimately have a lot of their relationship based around their mutual respect for each other? What if Nana stopped respecting Junna entirely one day? That's their movie arc. This movie covers the girls "dying" as stage girls (ie. losing what made them true stage girls/actors in the first place) and then being "reborn" as them, and unfortunately Nana is of the opinion that Junna could just simply have her symbolism death and not the other part. During their revue, Nana talks a lot about how beautiful and dazzling (using those exact words. she even called Junna heartbreakingly beautiful in the dub) Junna was when she was foolishly reaching for a role she wasn't likely to get, but put it all in past tense, and encouraged Junna to let herself die as a stage girl in a brilliant manor rather than trying and failing to grasp her brilliance and dying out like that. also she called her an ugly fruit which sure is something. Then Junna was like "???? no I won't do that actually???" and took one of Nana's swords from her to engage in a sword fight since Nana had destroyed her usual weapon. Which was not a great matchup briefly because Junna never used a sword in her life but after Nana realized that the Junna she was fighting was different from the Junna she knew, and didn't match the role she had assigned for her, Junna ended up telling Nana that her own role was something she'd define for herself and not something Nana could assign for her, and ended up winning against her. After the revue was over, Junna still wanted Nana in her life, and promised her that, one day, they'd reunite on a stage which belonged to both of them, even though they had to find their own stages before that could happen. Before they departed, Nana lamented that Junna was dazzling, contradicting her previous belief that she was only dazzling in the past, all while beginning to cry, and Junna nearly turned around to comfort her, but ultimately decided to continue onto her next stage as Nana carried onwards to her own, knowing that they would both need to grow before their reunion. I also want to mention that, during this scene, a picture of the two of them, one which Nana had stabbed through the middle as she was telling Junna how dazzling she thought she once was, had since been moved to a little pond in the background of the scene (and of the background of the start of the whole revue, so it was there the whole time) that was nearly identical to the one where Junna and Nana had had their moment of comfort at the end of episode 9 of the anime. With the middle of the picture being soaked in water, it ended up sinking just enough for the new cut in the middle of the picture to appear almost mended, showing that, while the damage Nana had done and the rift between them was still there, it was already starting to mend as they once again regarded each other as equals. This scene lives in my head constantly and haunts me daily. Congratulations to Junnana for having a divorce arc as high schoolers
Soriku:
Ultimate friends to lovers. They've been best friends since childhood but as they start to grow up, those feelings change into a more romantic nature but neither handles this well. Riku in particular has a whole villain arc about it bc his insecurities about the situation get the better of him, meanwhile Sora isn't self aware enough to recognize his feelings are romantic in nature but he spends all of his time desperately trying to get Riku back so they can be together again. Ultimately even after they come together, their love continues to be a main driving force of the narrative and it's so palpable

see you in hell you stupid fruits: a rambling reflection on revue starlight relive
revue starlight relive has reached end of service, so i guess i might as well share my thoughts? if you just want the tl;dr, my opinion can be summed up as "good fucking riddance", but you know. might as well talk about it a bit more.
first off, things i liked about relive. i liked most of the new characters it introduced, even if they were pretty flat early on. it was clear that they weren't sure what to do with some of them, but they did expand on them and give them more depth over time. some of the events were cute. the battle system was fun. arcana arcadia had some cool stuff, even if i had already stopped actually playing the game by that point (more on that later). and, uh... that's kind of it, i guess.
none of this stuff was ever really able to overcome the game's flaws. the new characters were fun, but it was pretty clear that they didn't always know how to juggle them, and some characters would go months with no new events or cards (i recall Misora often being neglected). events often had cute moments and occasionally an interesting character tidbit, but a lot of the time they just felt like pointless fluff.
while the basic battle system was compelling, the game never did much with it. PvE stuff was mostly just bland grinding and PvP was a mess full of ridiculous power creep where if you wanted to keep up you had to either get super lucky with your pulls or spend hundreds of dollars. Leveling up and unlocking skills for characters was tedious. in fact, most of the gameplay was an exercise in tedium - eventually, i realized i was going to all this effort to raise characters and do dailies and shit for basically no reason! why bother grinding characters so i can beat event bosses over and over to get the many different types of materials when the only thing to do with them is make your characters better so that you can get more materials??? if you just wanted to experience the cutscenes, you didn't need to engage with the actual gameplay much at all, so why bother? that's not even mentioning the complete lack of variety in basic enemies and bosses that got reused over and over.
arcana arcadia was really cool, but i don't think the story was well-served by the format, and also it took years for them to get to it - the first story arc was pretty much nothing and the second mostly felt like a course correction rather than a compelling narrative arc on its own (especially the first half, imo - the Rinmeikan and Frontier stories were probably the best).
but even if all of this was fine, and the game had compelling gameplay and writing, it would still be bad, because it's just a slot machine with anime girls on it! the entire purpose of the game, the whole reason it exists in the first place, is to grab as much money as possible from vulnerable people. and i kind of debated on whether i would talk about this, but i was one of those people. i spent thousands of dollars on this game because it turns out, surprise, i have a gambling addiction! so it was very frustrating for the bulk of writing for this franchise was locked behind an app i could not safely use.
i think that's basically it. it was a bad game stapled to a slot machine that showed you yuri if you won and i'm glad it's dead.
at least junna and nana kissed.
#not gonna bother posting this in the tag#people don't need to see my whining#fuck gacha games though

Hi, I'm dumb so forgive me if this question has an easy answer; is there a viewing order for Revstar? I'm trying to get into it, but I have been putting it off because I couldn't tell where to start
I assume you just mean the anime, but since there are also a bunch of stage plays and spin-offs and a gacha game, here's an overview and my personal opinion on a good viewing order:
You should definitely watch the anime first. It's only 12 episodes but it spends so much time developing each and every character and making you truly feel for them, plus it's the most experimental piece of media in the franchise and where the Utena influences are the most visible, so it's a treat to watch. I don't know if it's an unpopular opinion or what, but the stage plays didn't do nearly as much to develop the characters or their relationships with each other due to the obvious time constraints, so if that's your first run-in with the franchise you'll probably be disappointed
3 OVAs which take place during the finale and which I didn't know existed for the longest time. They're short and sweet and have some good character interaction, though you don't really have to watch them
I know there's a manga prequel with nine chapters introducing each of the nine girls + a bonus chapter that takes place after the finale. I haven't read it though
Rondo Rondo Rondo: it's a movie recapping the series from a slightly different perspective and including new scenes. You don't have to watch it but I'd still check out the new scenes on Youtube at least, especially the one after the end credits which is a direct lead-in to Gekijouban
Gekijouban Revue Starlight: the sequel movie. Absolute masterpiece, required viewing, budget was off the charts, elevates the series to new levels etc. etc.
As for the stage plays, again, I recommend watching them after the anime if you're interested. Doesn't really matter if you watch them right after the anime or after Gekijouban because the stage plays have their own plot that is only tangentially related to the anime, but they do have to be watched in a specific order:
The LIVE #1
The LIVE #2 - Transition
The LIVE Online (prequel to #3, not really required but a fun time)
The LIVE #3 - Growth
The LIVE Seiran - Blue Glitter (spin-off about characters introduced in #2 and #3, though I believe because of COVID it ended up coming out before #3 - personally I haven't watched it 'cause I don't really care, but I've heard good things)
The LIVE Edel Delight (I'll be real I know this ties in to the gacha game somehow which I don't play, so I haven't seen this either and don't really know how this fits into the timeline)
The STAGE Junior High Regalia (prequel about characters introduced in Edel Delight)
The LIVE #4 - Climax (this only came out in Japan this year so I don't think there are subtitles yet, but I'll be watching when they come out)
As for the gacha game, I don't play it but there's a lot of content which cross-references either the anime or the stage plays so I'll just direct you to this post (meant to just share the original one but Tumblr won't let me click on the original post to get the link) which also includes a guide about the viewing/playing order. Overall I think you could start playing after watching like, the anime + Gekijouban + possibly the first two stage plays?
PLEASE don't feel threatened by all of this btw. You can just watch the 12-episode anime and Gekijouban and be perfectly fine 'cause everything else is just extra. I've only watched the anime stuff and the first four stage plays I mentioned 'cause the gacha game and later stage plays add too many characters for me to keep up with

Some MORE Thoughts…
—I’ve actually had the hankering to do some art again after like a month, haha ^^ Taking a month hiatus from creating to refill my creative well has done me some wonders, because now I feel a lot more inspired and ready to write and draw!
—An idea that I’ve had for the last couple of days was including Dragon Tales into SRBA. My childhood lives! I love how at this point, the remastered SRBA is kinda becoming the MCU, lol—after all, I kinda have it set that the Super Readers would meet WordGirl and the characters from Santiago of the Seas, so why the heck not XD That means I’m gonna have to go back and fix the timeline again to include this.
—And in case anybody was wondering what other shows would be featured in this AU, it’s currently Santiago of the Seas, WordGirl, Dragon Tales and (possibly) Arthur. The later I put in brackets because I’m not sure how it’d work yet ^^;
—I am still working on that KonoSuba/Star Fox story, but most of it is just brainstorming fifty million ideas. I do have some cool ideas for a potential sequel starring either Slippy or Beltino. Why? Well, I wanted to challenge myself writing a character that I eventually grew to appreciate—as I wrote in the original post, Fox and Falco would fit in with KonoSuba perfectly, but it’s too obvious a choice. Putting in a happy-go-lucky mechanic with no sense of flying in a world like KonoSuba’s would be hilarious—or a mild-mannered scientist like Beltino. All I know is that either one of them would end up in Kazuma’s party, and Slippy and Aqua would butt heads because of her hatred for toads, LOL.
—2024 is not being kind to Love Livers thus far. I still think the whole “Love Live disappears but Revue Starlight is eternal” meme compilation is hilarious, though. Power creep and insane rates will not stop this game, I swear. Oh, and speaking of Revue Starlight, it’s been loving me again?? I’ve had better luck getting the 5-stars recently than I have had getting the birthday cards the last few years?! Which is good news for me, because my Wind, Moon and Space teams SUCK and I needed some better cards in order to prep for both Star Arena matches and future Trophy Roads.
—Kinda hopped back onto my Multo/Zeeter mood again, so I’ve been working on Love Language in between working on that StarFox/KonoSuba idea. I’m trying out a new writing routine, and hopefully, I can finish the first chapter sometime this year!
—Speaking of them, I was rereading my notes for that Revue Starlight inspired AU and I need to write out a post yelling about that. I literally have like six to seven pages of notes!
—Started Atelier Resleriana and it’s kinda cute! I’ve heard of the Atelier series, but never got a chance to play any of the games. But I’m liking it so far.
—Racing to get to the next few chapters of HI3rd. I’m kinda stoked for Part 2!
—And since I also got hit with the mood for it a few days ago, I’m going to be doing some in-depth notes about the Cerulean Avenger story, namely regarding the characters and what all to expect. The reason for that? It relates to the art I’m going to drop after making this post! 😁

So, Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight! The basic rundown is as follows: The main girls all attend an all-girls theatrical academy. They are in the acting class. All but the black-haired girl in the front (Hikari) have been in this class for a year now. Suddenly Hikari transfers to their class. Our main character Karen (ginger girl in the front) recognizes her. They were childhood friends and Hikari moved away when they were young. The problem is Hikari isn't acting as friendly toward Karen as she used to be and it's clear something is going on. The one thing we know is that when they were young Karen and Hikari made a promise to perform the play Starlight together once they became actors.
(now on to the fun stuff) Later after school, they all head back to their dorms and Karen notices Hikari sneaking out. She follows her all the way back to the school where she loses her in the hall. Instead, she finds an elevator that she doesn't remember. she goes in it and suddenly the whole thing starts to plummet down the tracks it's on (like a rollercoaster) and she ends up in an underground theater with a giant circle stage way below. On the stage, she sees one of her classmates and Hikari. They sing at first while wearing new outfits. The next thing she knows they are fighting with actual weapons. Also, there is a talking giraffe. this giraffe is the director of these battles. Karen isn't supposed to be there but she jumps in anyway and wins the fight by knocking the other girls' cloaks off. Hikari is pissed at her for interrupting. What we learn from the giraffe is that these "auditions" are a tournament and the winner gets a wish.
From there the rest of the series follows the girls in their school life as they prepare for the play at the end of the year and deal with each other, all while in the evenings some of them get called for these fights and face off to see who will win the wish and become the best "stage girl" (actress essentially). I am avoiding spoiling anything big but trust me the whole thing is insane! Also lesbians! Like the entire cast is just lesbians (except the giraffe but he is an ally).
I want to rant about more so more posts about the cast and the themes and symbolisms will be coming! But if you want to watch it please do so before seeing my next posts unless you want to potentially see massive spoilers. I promise the show is worth the watch. Also, a re-watch because some things you learn will completely change some characters' actions in early episodes.
JUST LOOK AT MY GIRLS!!! I love them so much!

MY 2023 MEDIA ROUNDUP
I've read a lot of manga in 2023. I've watched some things in 2023. Here's my roundup of some of the best ones. Screenreader users I don't know how image ID descriptions work so I'm just gonna type out the text on the image.
Part 1 - Manga
There is no good manga that came out (or rather, started publication) in 2023. But here are some of my favourites that continued (or ended) publication.
Dungeon Meshi (ended publication) - An incredibly heartwarming story about family, adventure, and cuisine. Full of heart of traditional fantasy stories with an impeccable worldbuilding that accentuates its excellent characters.
Skip and Loafer (currently publishing) - Kindness and niceness doesn't always go hand in hand, but this story reminds you that everyone has the capacity for good. Its complex characters scheme, doubt themselves, keep secrets, confide in each other, tell jokes, keep busy, and do all the things that make them feel human and real.
Ikoku Nikki (ended publication) - Tearjerking, heartwrenching, cathartic. This story depicting life and grief makes me cry like no other, but it is not about sadness. It is about love, it is about awkwardness, it is about embarassment, it is about everything that keeps people going, that keeps us alive.
Medalist (currently publishing) - Something a bit different from the others, this is an underdog sports story, with wonderfully written characters and gorgeous art, it tells a story of grit, tenacity, and the hope that those feelings bring about. The main and deuteragonist characters are definite standouts at the cost of rather shallow side characters. Still, it's probably the best sports story in recent manga history, though.
The following are manga I read in 2023, but may be published earlier. Exercise caution as I'm too lazy to describe them.
Q.E.D. Shoumei Shuuryou - Case of the week mystery
Ohana Holoholo - Tearjerker story about former lovers who come to raise a child together
Ace of the Diamond - Baseball
Look Back - Growing pains and the horrors of being an artist
20th Century Boys - Insane goose chase conspiratorial mystery about a cult-driven coming apocalypse
Billy Bat - Supernatural thriller about international conspiracies based around a cartoon bat
Bokura no Funkasai ('Our Eruption Festival') - How two very different people handle their lvies being upended by a miracle
Tengoku Daimakyou ('Heavenly Delusion') - Post-post-apocalypse story about a country trying to rebuilt from its mysterious ashes
Sousou no Frieren ('Frieren: At Journey's End') - Longing, desire, regrets, and doing menial tasks for shit pay
Karakida-ke no Koshogurashi ('The Karakida Family's Life Among the Old Books') - Three sisters live together under the roof of their grandfather's antique bookstore
Part 2 - Movies
I'm not gonna claim I'm a regular moviegoer. Here's my best two out of ten movies I watched from this year:
Killers of the Flower Moon - This was my first Scorcese film and it did not disappoint. The direction and acting kept me repulsed at all times. I applaud them for portraying such an utterly unlikable protagonist. Lily Gladstone rocked.
Oppenheimer - Nolan's style of editing adds to the chaos of the story. The quick, sudden cuts from all the concurrent plotlines really lends itself well to how the story plays out. Cillian Murphy slayed.
Here's other movies which may have come out earlier:
Theatrical Revue Starlight (2021)
Dungeons & Dragons (2023)
The Handmaiden (2016)
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Evangelion 3.0+1.0: Thrice Upon a Time (2021)
Part 3 - Shows
Which is mostly anime. Sorry.
The Bear (Season 2) - People trying to live their best lives in the fine dining industry past their traumas and hardships. It is very stressful emotionally, but also really cathartic.
BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! - Five girls, each 'lost' in their own way, find solace and comfort in music and each other's company. Within this idol anime lies so much heart and passion, it's no wonder Bushiroad has released countless merch of them.
These ones are all from 2023, I just don't want to write abot them.
Succession (Season 4) - Thrilling conclusion to the four season saga of this royal fuck-up of a family taking the world possible path on every crossroads
Gundam: The Witch From Mercury (Season 2) - A horribly rushed but still good ending of the main couple's storyline (and Guel). I just wish it was a 39-episode anime with a movie
Skip and Loafer - Incredibly faithful adaptation that stays true to the original while improving upon the already excellent characters
Heavenly Delusion - This anime is just straight up a better delivery of the first four books of the manga
Overtake! - NYOOOOOM! Also, great character writing.

Emi Plays Revue Starlight: El Dorado Part 8
Claudine and Futaba route time. I feel bad for Futaba even when she's one of the leads she's not the lead she auditioned for
d;awwww futaba is so excited to be alejandro she's hoppin around like a kid. she's being SO cute
ooh right i forgot i guessed the casting for this one before lesse if i got it right kaoruko: isabel, maya: miguel, karen: carmencita, mahiru: cavallero, junna: luigi, nana: columbus

alright onward. oh i got kaoruko right. and maya. and karen hehehe
snfjskjdfh. starlight el dorado. where mahiru laughs at everyone Else being jealous
lmao kaoruko asking if claudine will be fine playing against someone other than maya since that's where a lot of her motivation stems from
KJHSKDJFHKJ them all going 'aaah' as that makes perfect sense ksjdfh
girl. you at least Were
writers i think u prob meant stagefighting
i'm kinda shocked that futaba has Already given kaoruko the keys to her bike bc it means she can't drive it anymore unless kaoruko's with her
snort random interlude with sakuragi sensei havin a cool bike. akjhskjfhsd???????/
guess that friend never came back lets hope thats not a portent for kaotaba's future
anyway now futaba has it for the summer. idky sakuragi asked if futaba had a motorcycle license bc....obviously...she does?
claudine is not exactly thrilled to be on a 40+ yo bike futaba has never ridden before but too bad
ah these helmets have intercoms, but futaba's dont bc expensive
awwww.....no revenge this time just. thankful and wanting to show it off
also translators yankee means more like delinquent than american
this is by far the sweetest after-casting scene aha. i love their friendship. claudine does Not like going fast tho lmao
i still think its funnny in the kaomaya route that kaoruko does 0 extra lifting with english interpretation
das not her name localizers kjfh
why is this even wrong- its the same lines as in the other routes so far akjshfd
claudine wants to get sunscreen before going to the beach but futaba's like NAH lets go lets go. I MEAN. she has a point
huh. these two went to a wharf. i do like that they're all unique beaches thus far
futaba really did have the roughest time of all of them originally. i know mahiru lacks confidence but she's never been Bad at any of it. futaba barely managed to get in
i like that futaba put in sound effects for their etude lmao. ah right this is before the royal academy comes so they didnt know there could be a fly system yet
snort
im so confused i went back to make Sure that futaba auditioned for salvatore and she did- so im kinda surprised there's been no mention of that?
lol amemiya and masai pickin up on the teacher-student vibes of claudine n futaba. i am sitting here going can i pls get a crumb of rinmeikan
kjshkdjfh
ah futaba's not keeping up with judy's ad lib. tho claudines character voice also slipped at first and i didnt catch anyone else doing that. maybe it's bc their set up has been so fluffy wuffy friendshippy
junna was p antagonistic toward karen which pulled karen along, and kaoruko and maya arent. fluffy people in general
god im excited for the mahiru nana version
maya u have 0 right to talk about others being brutish on stage
harsh but true
kjsfdkjshdkjfh
awww :)
mm they going over it again since Both claudine and futaba got caught off guard. claudines settled and is matching judy but poor futaba is fallin behind
futaba watchin claudine n judy hit it off and match each other and suddenly she's a first year again barely keeping up
.....do bandaids expire? but locker room kaotaba time
skjsdhf ok kaoruko's just makin shit up
futaba you dont need to keep Up with knightly. u gotta surpass her
interesting....judy wasnt called over from rehearsal to update the props team from england. just startin there
oh was my mahiru guess right. yes it was haha. tho they were pretty easy casting patterns to pick up on
mm masai and amemiya arent satisfied...oh good. futaba admitting she's not okay. aaaah yeah okay this is what i thought was happening. while claudine and judy are performing the scene perfectly as written. it's not meshing well with futaba
futaba headin off on her own to go train....even tho claudines getting all the crit for not keeping up with futaba's passion lmao
kaoruko was right tho at the beginning lmao. of claudine not pullin out all the stops bc she's not against maya.
kaoruko ajkshdf
oh she gave claudine the script for the next starlight- thats surprising. but yeah lol claudine got complacent she beat maya, she's already set to join the troupe, what else she need
akjsfdh masai came along too?
CLAUDINE AND FUTABA ARE SWAPPING ROLES????? hell yeah futaba DOES get to be salvatore. tho rip team b this is way worse a setback than the other two routes. claudine and futaba are no where near each others sizes
the routes do get more complicated as u go down them im Glad i saved mahiru for last
also rip amemiya since masai sprung this on her with no warning ksjhdjf and this is again. a lot more work than them just skippin off to do extra training. i mean theyre still doing that but akjhjsdhf an actual Reason to restart production. akjhskjdfh she's angy
asbdfnbsmdf everyone else is fine with it.
OK amemiya u already had a swapped script goin anyway jhghg
oh new monologue here about revenging starlight. im p sure junkaren n kaomayas were essentially the same this is v diff
ok lesbians
jkhzkjxh yeah
ok do u communicate tho lol
masai's cup ramen flavor for this route
p sure most of this was in the kaomaya route but it still cute
ah image limit. tsk. i am kinda doin this one in one go tho

Round 2A.2
Propaganda under the cut
Aijou Karen: "one night, when she was little, Karen and her best friend Hikari went to see a play together. they loved it so much they both decided to become theater actresses together. now, Karen is attending the prestigious theater training school Seisho Academy, learning not just acting, but singing and dancing too. and she's getting better all the time. it's just as she says: "The Stage Girl Aijou Karen is evolving day by day!""
Mitsuki Akika "He's an inquisitive person who others have a difficult time pinning down. Now let me tell you that this guy has covered several vocaloid songs in the series, and has a scenario drama cd of his "acting". Basically he plays a character that is the main character's childhood friend, and they recently started dating 6 months ago though she still views him as an 'older brother' figure and he starts feeling insecure…(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeoGUYN0SII&list=PLpkI-7_0esiaU4az-owytYyBjYhXfkaCJ) I heavily indulge in that CD. Going back to the songs though, there's Sarishinohara (https://youtu.be/5mPKASXfnow), Ifuudoudou, yes you heard that right and also! there's no weird noises at the start.. although the cover is of another character: Natsume, this is officially a Mitsuki song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Efv_dvmQ3kc) and Koshitantan, another Umetora song. (https://youtu.be/RCHbmtz_uAs)
This guy has too much voice rizz, I haven't even known the lore to the franchise other than they're you know… actors and they do song covers, but listening to that Koshitantan cover rearranged my brain chemistry."
