Ok so. I think its very interesting how hes characterized as childish. Like playing pranks or overall just being a little baby. Hell at one point hes like "if phillip finds out ive been looking through christines wardrobe, ill get grounded for weeks." YOURE 20 DUDE WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU STILL GET GROUNDED???? Not to mention when christine says she cant leave the opera house at a certain time hes like, oh you have a curfew? i understand. Hes so... baby...

And then he spills ink on richards music score. LIKE A PRICK. Like a prick.

hes just overall a very mischievous guy when its not involving christine which... i love. hes such a brat. But it also explains a lot of his behavior esp when involving christine. Children arent like. Demons or anything. As pushy or bratty as they may get. Cruelty is learned and overall kids are good because that is inherent human nature. Raoul is an adult but id said hes definitely more sheltered than what would be normal. That results in his childish behavior. Its why hes so fixiated on christine and attached to her. He doesnt curse her (book raoul...) or hurt her in any way and definitely has her best intentions in mind but he does it in a selfish manner he doesnt even realize hes doing. He needs constant assurance and hinders her obnoxiously.

I think his arc actually involves maturing rather than just being an overall better person. Him maturing enough to realize the pain he put christine through. The maturity of empathizing with everyone and not just christine. Mazm absolutely butchered christine but i think at the end raoul does shine. In a certain interaction while burying erik, he stops christine from throwing eriks mothers ring away and tells her that if he was in eriks position, he would at least want his corpse to be identified somehow. He doesnt treat that sentiment as pity for erik as he detests him, but it is definitely his way of showing sympathy. He tells christine abt what the daroga told him abt eriks past when he didnt have to. His final moment of showing growth was letting christine choose her path in life, with or without him involved. Which is such a beautiful close to his arc. I only wish he was to be more fleshed out bc this leads to another thing abt him.

I genuinely cannot bring myself to enjoy canon couples where one side is devoted to the other to the point they dont have a personality for themselves/cannot think or talk abt things other than their partner. Raoul has perpetual brainrot for christine which gets infuriating bc mazm raoul has such a unique sassy personality thats enjoyable but gets undercut by his own obssesion.

I love his interactions with remy and madame giry like genuinely my favorite thing to do is just harass remy at his desk when we get to play as raoul. At certain points you do see the side of him that was educated bc after all, hes nobility. He knew la epoque was a bullshit gossip paper when all the "intellectuals" were reading it. He was doing straight up detective work by investigating. He unearths mf conspiracies. I love how hands on he gets. His interactions r gold to me but it all gets undercut when christines name gets brought in. "Are the singers/dancers being treated well?? I only care abt christine btw". ASTOP!!! It just reduces his personality to "christine" and undercuts who he really is. Its as if he only acts that way for christine rather than being a genuinely nice guy. Its why his sassiness stands out, its genuine, and its funny lolol
