How do you see Jon's personality being if he had been raised by his biological parents?

I have to thank you for this ask since it ties perfectly into something I’ve been thinking of - just how much of Jon, Dany and Arya’s personalities are tied to innate characteristics vs those molded by environment? Since you’ve asked me about Jon specifically, let’s focus on him.

Background:

Before anything, we have to establish Rhaegar and Lyanna’s situation. Since you mention both parents, I assume this means you consider a world where Lyanna is Rhaegar’s queen in King’s Landing. Lyanna’s political position will greatly influence Jon’s own experience, upbringing, and as a result, his personality. Does Rhaegar somehow get away with having two Queens? Is Elia alive and estranged from Rhaegar (the only likely minimally happy scenario imo)? Is Jon considered to be a trueborn Targaryen or a legitimized bastard? Does Lyanna have a say in the matters of the Kingdom or is she relegated to Dragonstone/a renovated Summerhall? If Elia is alive, does she allow a relationship between Rhaenys, Aegon and Jon? Is Rhaegar disappointed that Jon didn’t turn out to be his Visenya? Does Rhaella survive Daenerys’ birth?

For this post, let’s assume that Lyanna is (a) Queen, has a definitive say in matters, and has a proper loving relationship with Rhaegar. Jon is allowed to have a normal sibling relationship with Aegon and Rhaenys and Elia is a better human being than Catelyn. Rhaella survives, so does Dany and both are active presences in the Red Keep.

A Mother’s Love

Let’s get to the most obvious difference a life as a Targaryen would have entailed - Jon would have his mother. Even in her absence, so much of Jon is Lyanna - his quick temper, his sarcasm, his championing of the underdogs, his ability to judge character. A world in which Lyanna is alive to bring up her boy is likely to result in a firm, principled, headstrong young man completely devoted to his mother. Not too different from what we have, right?

In this world, however, Jon would have no reasons to hide in the shadows. If he stays in the background, it would be solely because he doesn’t wish to be in the limelight, not because he feels it’s not his place.

Prospects

Our first introduction to a Jon action is when he discounts himself from the list of Ned’s children so that the pup count adds up, and Bran doesn’t have to see the pups being killed. That’s:

Big brother of the year

These aren’t character traits which can be molded. Thus I’m led to believe that a Jon raised by Lyanna and Rhaegar would be no different in these aspects. However, a different social dynamic to being the Bastard of Winterfell would mean:

He does not need to hide his intelligence or ability for fear of attracting anyone’s wrath

He doesn’t have to be constantly and forcibly reminded of his place on the fringes of the family and thus forms a more natural relationship with his siblings

He actually has prospects and options of futures in front of him

That last factor would mean that he has the freedom and ability to indulge his natural curiosity and wonder about the world. This is the guy who was mesmerized by the beauty of the snow stretching all the way to the horizon beyond the wall. This is the guy who took the initiative of learning all he could about Free Folk culture because he wanted to know them, when as a spy all he needed to find out was their attack strategy. This is the boy who lamented never being able to see all the places in the world since he had effectively barricaded himself.

Jon is a naturally restless soul with a thirst for adventure and knowledge - in this he’s the perfect combination of both his parents. Jon Snow, the Bastard of Winterfell would never have had the ability and freedom to indulge his wanderlust and thirst for adventure, but as a Prince of the realm and with his parents actively encouraging it, I think he will barely stay put in King’s Landing once he’s allowed to travel on his own.

Relationships

It’s quite entertaining to speculate the differences between big brother Jon and little brother Jon. I would like to imagine Rhaenys and Aegon not being tainted by Court gossip about Jon (and believe me there’s no happy universe I can think of where Jon’s birth would NOT be a scandal for the ages) and considering him to be their little brother.

I do see a little brother Jon being a bit of a brat - his escapades as a child in Winterfell with Robb certainly give enough fodder to imagine that. In case Rhaegar allows contact between his son and his cousins in the North (and he better, else Lyanna is going to have WORDS), Jon would likely get along with Robb just as well as he does in canon, albeit now they will be on a level playing field socially.

I don’t know about Dany really - they are both similar enough fundamentally that I see them getting along fabulously in any and every iteration but I’m not sure about anything more than being each other’s closest confidantes. To me the Jonerys jumps out due to the parallels of their experiences and their decisions and ultimate journeys. In the absence of that - I can’t say.

His relationship with Arya will likely be different as well - even if he’s fostered at Winterfell for a time he would not have been present in Arya’s life since birth and the closeness they share at being the ‘outsiders’ of the family would likely not exist. I still think she would be his favourite cousin - but a royal cousin is different from a beloved brother.

Another aspect a Jon who is raised in King’s Landing will not be able to avoid - he will be the subject of rigorous matchmaking exercises. As a bastard of the North he had nothing to offer anyone thus wouldn’t have been considered even for a third daughter of a minor house. As the second son of the King, however, he will be the one all Houses focus on once Aegon is betrothed.

You know, at the end of it, there’s so many ways Jon could have turned out differently. Lyanna could have still died birthing him and he would have been thrown to the wolves of the Court as a child. He could have gone through life as a royal bastard and faced continuous comparisons to the Blackfyres. He could have grown up the Crown Prince if Tywin picked the wrong side before waiting for the result of the Trident. In every iteration though I have to ask myself, would I like a Jon Snow who did not face all that he has and turn out as he has?

A person is the product and the sum of their circumstances, their experiences and their innate makeup. One is no less important than the other - thus a Jon who grew up with his parents but without Robb and Arya, without Ned and without the Night’s Watch would be a very different person than the one I know and love. He might still have turned out to be one of my favourites, but I think I’m ok with the one we have.

did a small stint on the underworld set as playing baby harmony manikas alongside hazel before she could even walk or talk. it worked out perfectly because of the long hours worked by her parents.

faye lived an incredibly spoiled and happy childhood. it didn’t matter how big of names her parents were because at the end of the day, they dedicated themselves to her and her sister. but she definitely had the perks of an incredibly wealthy upbringing and adored ever moment of it.

has always had a passion for performing. it started with ballet and hip hop lessons when she was three and then vocal and piano lessons when she was five. and faye wasn’t just good at it -- she was gifted in the art of music. she never had a doubt in her talent, especially when she was the lead of every musical, winning school talent shows, and completely adored by her performing arts teachers.

despite suggestions to get her into show business immediately, sienna was firm that if the girls wanted to be in the industry then they would only be allowed to do it when they came of age. this frustrated faye, who was pretty much sure that she wanted to be a singer from the age of ten.

never actively sought out friends growing up. thanks to her parents and the close relationships they’d fostered on the underworld set, faye was pretty much born with friends for life. was considered a “popular girl” during middle and high school but didn’t actively go out of her way to be a queen bee type. she much preferred sticking with the friends she had and prep herself for stardom.

once she received her high school degree, faye firmly told her parents that she would not be attending college like her sister and promptly sent out the demo she’d been preparing to different record labels.

a big-time record label approached faye and offered her a spot on their roster. the catch ? it would be as a girl group because those were all the craze back then. reluctantly, she agreed. the group consisted of three other girls was named eye candy and proved to be a commercial success, thanks to their strong, harmonizing vocals and female empowerment anthems. the group lasted for five years but eventually decided to go their separate ways for solo careers. it was amicable split -- faye still talks to the other girls to this day.

now at the age of twenty-three, faye was ready to take on her solo career. a proclaimed songbird and skilled songwriter by rolling stones magazine itself, her debut album was met with incredibly favorable reviews and made the top ten on billboard 100. she was even nominated for best new artist and the grammys.

in particular, everyone was enamored by a particular single that featured an up-and-coming rapper dylan. the two began dating shortly after. the relationship was incredibly toxic. dylan’s hedonistic lifestyle of non-stop parties and drugs began to infiltrated faye’s on life, and together they spiraled out of the control. both the media and fans were obsessed with them and diligently pried into every aspect of their love life. that made things like dylan’s constant wandering eyes and hands or their tumultuous fights hard to keep private. constantly, she told herself she would leave dylan but often times found herself so co-dependent and very nearly addicted to his energy.

at the time, faye also worked on her second album. this one took on a less bubblegum pop approach and shifted her attempts to more dance pop. the banger filled album was praised for her efforts and continued to obtain global success while simultaneously going through perhaps the worst period of her life. the amount of accolades and attention she was garnering truly meant nothing when she didn’t even feel like herself.

it came to the biggest surprise when faye discovered that she was pregnant. completely panicked at the idea of becoming a mother or bringing a kid into this horrible dynamic, she made the decision to have an abortion. at the time, her father was the only one that knew and went to the clinic with her. however, his choice to tell her mother afterwards upset faye and she shut him out of her life for months.

things blew up in a very big way at a big exclusive club opening that she attended with dylan and some of her friends. paparazzi galore caught faye’s boyfriend all over a model for the world to see and thanks to the stress of all that had been occurring, she had a breakdown. colton came to her defense that night and started a fight with dylan that ended poorly. so distressed about colton getting in trouble and dylan’s blatant disrespect, faye sort of disappeared for a while, showing up on her parents’ doorstep in a desperate need of a repreive from hollywood. deleted all of her social media and sorta slumped into a depression, one that her loved ones didn’t allow her to settle in for long.

after seven months of healing and antisocial behavior, faye emerged back into the limelight and began working diligently on her third album. unlike ever before, this album was raw and authentic and shifted gears to more sultry pop and r&b and urban flares that showcased her vocals unlike ever before. she took over a year to release it, wanting to make sure everything was perfect for her return. and it was surely worth it because it is her biggest album to date and got her five grammy nominations, three of which she won.

simultaneously, faye began dating noah -- one of her best friends that she tiptoed the will they won’t they line with for a very long time. at first, she was hesitant and wary of the possibility of a healthy relationship but now could not imagine her life without him ( though she’d never admit to his face because who needs to agony of his smugness )

born to two notorious supervillains, faye was expected to go down the same path. she began her training from an early age ; as a non-meta human, she knew she would have to rely on gadgets and combat in the field.

when she came of age to be in the field, she realized that the villain lifestyle was not for her and would prefer to utilize her powers as a hero instead. too afraid to reveal this to her parents, she instead confided in her twin sister hazel and best friends gabriel, kiri, and noah.

while reluctantly partaking in villainous operatives like robberies and the sort, faye began moonlighting as a vigilante as a form of balance for her wrongs. the two words collided horribly and it was exhausting being two different people at separate ends of the spectrum, but she didn’t want to be denounced by her loved ones. she may not agree with the villains but they were her lifelines. came to be known as rose as a masked vigilante, thanks to her sweeter “innocent�� appearance but her far more “thorny” form of fighting.

met dylan during one of her nights off at a nightclub and was immediately attracted to him. he was a clinical psychology intern at a local center and she found him to be very handsome, enigmatic, and intelligent. they started dating.

everything was going wonderfully, or so she thought. truthfully, dylan was incredibly emotionally abusive. he began to make her isolate herself from her loved ones, second-guess her self-worth, and rely heavily on him to function as a human being. on numerous occasions, he even struck her to get his point across.

one night, faye discovered his hidden journals, realizing that he was obsessed with those “graced” with meta-human abilities and had attempted experiments on himself and victims that he found to try to be like them. disgusted, faye packed up to leave for good when dylan knocked her out. when she came to, she was dangling above a chemical vat. dylan made her choose -- him or her loved ones. when faye stubbornly chose her loved ones, he dropped her into the chemical vat.

while the chemicals included did not kill her, it re-wired something in faye’s brain. suddenly, she was hearing voices and the bleaching quality in the chemicals caused her skin to go ghostly pale. she would have drowned if dylan hadn’t retrieved her. and when he did, she was no longer the girl she’d once been.

thanks to the chemical vat, faye has grown immune to most toxins and chemicals. that paired with her gymnastic skills and weaponized toys makes for a danger enemy. she has no morals and is willing to kill in the field.

the worst thing she has ever done in her life is the murder of the superhero twilight ( civilian name: emmett turner ). upon dylan’s encouragement, she brutally bashed his head in with a crowbar and left him for dead.

dylan kept her under his thumb, using the most extreme forms of torture if faye dared to defy him. but one day, she snapped and killed the man who was the reasoning for all her suffering. but it was too late: she was now giggle, known by the maniacal laugh she gives before carving people into pieces.

Farmer Defends World Title Against Carroll On March 15

Tevin Farmer will defend his IBF World Super-Featherweight title against Jono Carroll at the Liacouras Center in Philadelphia on Friday, March 15, live on DAZN in the US and on Sky Sports in the UK.

Farmer (28-4-1 6KOs) makes the third defense of his crown in his first fight on home turf as a World champion, following a wide points win over Francisco Fonseca in New York in December, a win that followed a dominant fifth-round stoppage over Northern Irishman James Tennyson in his first defense in Boston in October.

The 28-year-old returns to the Temple University venue having boxed there in April 2017 against Arturo Reyes – the fight before his first World title showdown with Kenichi Ogawa in Las Vegas in December, where his controversial split decision loss was turned into a no-contest after the Japanese failed a drug test. The farmer would claim the vacant IBF title in August in Australia with a comprehensive points win over seasoned Aussie Billy Dib.

Unbeaten Dubliner Carroll (16-0-1 3KOs) fights for his first World title on St Patrick’s weekend against Farmer, with his shot at the title following a closely fought split draw in a final eliminator with Guillaume Frenois in Sheffield, England in December.

Farmer and Carroll have been involved in bitter social media spats and will finally come face-to-face for the first time at a press conference to launch the fight in Philly next Tuesday, and both fighters believe the fight will be as fiery as the build-up.

“He's got a World title shot on St Patrick's weekend, he should be thanking me,” said Farmer. “He's trying to get under my skin but it's impossible to get under my skin. He's making himself look bad and he's stepping up to a whole different level with me. I'm A-level and he's going to pay.

“He says we both come from tough backgrounds, the hood, that boy hasn't come from any struggle, no hood. I'm going to show him when he comes to Philly, he's going to eat his words. Irish sensation Katie Taylor can take a giant step towards her goal of becoming the undisputed World Lightweight champion when she aims to unify her WBA and IBF titles against WBO ruler Rose Volante.

Taylor (12-0 5KOs) added the IBF strap to her WBA title in April against Victoria Bustos in Brooklyn, New York, and has since defended the titles three times, stopping Kimberly Connor in three rounds in London in July before shutouts against Cindy Serrano in Boston in October and ending a stunning 2018 by beating Eva Wahlstrom in New York in December.

Volante (14-0 8KOs) has defended her WBO crown twice since winning the vacant title in December 2017 and the Argentine won both her defenses in Brazil 2018 by the halfway point, with Lourdes Borbua retiring after five rounds in April and Yolis Marrugo Franco stopped in three in September.

The champions put titles and unbeaten records on the line in Philadelphia, and the winner will target Belgian WBC ruler Delfine Persoon for all the belts later in the year.

“Ever since I won my first World title as a pro my goal has been to unify the Lightweight titles so this is obviously a massive step towards that,” said Taylor. “Volante is unbeaten so I'm expecting a tough fight but that's exactly the kind of challenge I want. I think the better the opponent and the bigger the challenge the better I will perform.

“It's a great card to be on especially with so many Irish fighters on the bill on St. Patrick's weekend in Philadelphia so I'm sure it will be a special occasion. “For now my focus is on Volante but of course after that fight, I would love to have all the belts as soon as possible. Hopefully, the Persoon fight can finally be made for the summer and then there are some other huge fights out there as well for the rest of the year.”

A stacked card in support of the two World title blockbusters is led by a crunch Middleweight clash between Philadelphia’s Gabriel Rosado and Pole Maciej Sulecki and an all-Philadelphia Lightweight clash between Hank Lundy and Avery Sparrow.

Rosado (24-11-1 14KOs) is back in action after a controversial all-action fight in Kansas with Luis Arias in November, the former World title challenger drawing with the Milwaukee man. The 33-year-old will be desperate to get his name back into contention for major honors with the 160lbs division red hot right now, but Sulecki (27-1 11KOs) will have the same designs on those title shots having bounced back from a loss against Daniel Jacobs in April with a second-round KO win in Poland in November.

“I'm excited to start the year back home in Philly,” said Rosado. “This is the second half of my career and the goal is to win a World title. It's only right that it starts here in Philly.”

Prospect Sparrow (9-1 3KOs) will be gunning to add a major scalp to his CV in the shape of former World title challenger Lundy (29-7-1 14KOs). Sparrow faces the second ten round clash of his career as he looks to step up his progress early in 2019.

“It's been a long time since I last fought but that's on me and I've learned from it,” said Sparrow. “Fighting someone like Hank Lundy is the kind of challenge I look forward to. It's a big fight on a big stage.”

“Once again we have a great Philly vs. Philly fight and that is always good for boxing in Philly,” said Lundy. “It's a hard fight but we're both looking down the road because we know what winning this fight will do for our careers.”

Kazakhstan’s Olympic gold medal star Daniyar Yeleussinov (5-0 3KOs) fights for the sixth time in the paid ranks ahead of what promises to be a break out year for the 27 year old, the same of which can be said for two-time Olympian and 2012 silver medalist John Joe Nevin (11-0 4KOs) who joins fellow Irish fighters on the St. Patrick’s weekend bill.

“I can’t wait for March 15 at the Liacouras Center,” said promoter Eddie Hearn. “It’s our first ever event in Philadelphia and it’s an honor to promote in this great city on St Patrick’s weekend.

“Tevin Farmer is one of the great boxing underdog stories of our generation and I’m so happy he is getting the chance to bring that World championship home against a feisty and talented Jono Carroll.

“The biggest star in World boxing, Ireland’s Katie Taylor, looks to unify the division against WBO champ Rose Volante. “It's a great card to be on especially with so many Irish fighters on the bill on St. Patrick's weekend in Philadelphia so I'm sure it will be a special occasion.

“For now my focus is on Volante but of course after that fight I would love to have all the belts as soon as possible. Hopefully the Persoon fight can finally be made for the summer and then there are some other huge fights out there as well for the rest of the year.”

Rosado (24-11-1 14KOs) is back in action after a controversial all-action fight in Kansas with Luis Arias in November, the former World title challenger drawing with the Milwaukee man. The 33 year old will be desperate to get his name back into contention for major honors with the 160lbs division red hot right now, but Sulecki (27-1 11KOs) will have the same designs on those title shots having bounced back from a loss against Daniel Jacobs in April with a second round KO win in Poland in November.
