Not Exactly Human
Bc I‘m in Athens rn I have a special request: I think Jungshin x Greek Myth would be perfect. I feel like he would be a god who fell in love with a human and he has to choose: Either he become human as well or she has to become a god to be with him. I hope you like my idea ^^ Thank you so much for writing all of your scenarios ;; ❤️
@takura-rin, GIRL, you probably know how happy you’ve made me with this request because LET ME TELL YOU. LEE JUNGSHIN IS NUMBER TWO ON MY BIAS LIST. I literally love him. So. Much. But anyway, on to the request!
Genre: God!AU
Pairing: Jungshin x You

Jungshin let out a sigh, fighting back the urge to roll his eyes as he listened to his father lecture him about being careful and not revealing his true identity and not making friends and blah blah blah blah blah.
“Yes, I know, father,” he sighed. “Can I just get it over with already?”
The time had come for Jungshin to complete his... well, let’s just call it a ‘sabbatical.’ Every god and goddess had to go down to Earth and live among humans for three months. Some looked forward to it, some were indifferent, and some were just straight up indignant about it.
Jungshin was indifferent.
Mainly he just wanted to get it over with so he could get back to his music (he was the god of music, after all). Down on Earth, all of his powers would be stripped so he wouldn’t be able to play any music unless he learned. And how could one gain that kind of skill in three months?! Impossible.
“All right, let’s just send you off, then,” Jungshin’s father murmured, giving his son a firm pat on the shoulder before nudging him toward the portal.
Jungshin took a deep breath before stepping through, mentally preparing himself to become a lowly human. But it was only for three months. What’s the worst that could happen?
Every god or goddess who comes to Earth for their required three months always stays with Minhyuk, a former god who was banished to Earth after falling in love with a human. Well, he wasn’t technically banished because he chose to stay. But, still. Either way, Jungshin didn’t understand it.
First of all, falling in love with a human? Ridiculous. Second of all, giving up your powers to become one? Unfathomable.
“So, what do I have to do first?” Jungshin asked Minhyuk when he arrived at his residence. He tried not to let his distaste show as he looked around the house. Really, he just didn’t know why Minhyuk would put all these... things in his home. Pictures on the wall, an excessive amount of pillows on the couch, little trinkets on the shelves...
“Well, you should probably get a job,” Minhyuk informed him with a nod. “You’ll need to make money while you’re here so you can eat.”
“...I have to pay for food?”
“You have to pay for everything.”
“Okay... so, where can I get this job?”
“Since you don’t really have any skills --” Minhyuk ignored the glare Jungshin was currently throwing at him. “-- I would suggest a cafe or maybe a coffee shop. There are plenty around, you shouldn’t have any trouble.”
Minhyuk took a breath then. “Except... maybe...
“Maybe what?” Jungshin interrupted, already annoyed.
“Just try to be... nice. Remember, you’re human now, too. And you will be for the next three months.”
Jungshin sighed, resisting the urge to roll his eyes. “All right, I’ll be nice. I promise.”
He spent the next few hours wandering up and down the neighborhood where Minhyuk lived, going into restaurants and cafes and shops to look for a job.
Eventually, Jungshin was hired at a coffee shop down the street, and while he had no idea what ‘coffee’ even was, he was able to learn the ropes in just a few hours. He may have lost all of his godly powers, but he was still smart and resourceful, okay?!
At first, Jungshin was afraid that working with so many humans day in and day out would be tedious, but... after about a week... he actually enjoyed it. Most of them weren’t as idiotic as he’d predicted; in fact, they were quite nice and actually intelligent. He honestly didn’t mind working at this place.
But then the establishment held an open mic night.
Oh, great. Just what he needed. To hear humans try to make music. He tried to get out of his shift that evening but to no avail. He would just have to suffer.
Obviously, the first few “musicians” were... horrendous. To say the least. Jungshin had the most difficult time holding back his cringes.
Then, as he was handing a customer her hot chocolate with extra whipped cream... a soft, melodious guitar strum floated through the speakers.
He perked up a little, tilting his head as his gaze shifted over to the stool where the musicians had been sitting.
And there you were, sitting with one leg crossed over the other, a guitar perched in your lap.
Jungshin had to admit, as far as humans went, you were quite beautiful. And as you picked and strummed at your guitar strings, your fingers nimbly switching between notes... I mean, you were actually good.
Like... really good.
He knew almost instantly he had to meet you.
So on his break, he quickly hung up his apron and made his way out into the shop. He spotted you easily, sitting at a table with your guitar case leaning against your chair as you sipped on a drink.
He marched up to you, sliding into the empty seat across from you and folding his arms on top of the table.
“...Can I help you?” you asked, eyes widening.
“You’re quite good,” he told you.
“...Okay?”
“At the guitar. I mean, obviously, compared to everyone else who went, you were absolutely the best one.”
“Oh! Well. Thank you. ...Who are you?”
“I’m Jungshin. I work here.” He held out his hand, proud of himself for remembering how humans liked to greet each other upon first meeting.
“I’m Y/N,” you replied, shaking his hand. “Nice to meet you.”
“You’re also very attractive, though that has nothing to do with your musical talent.”
You blushed, holding back an awkward chuckle. “Thanks. You’re... I mean, you’re attractive, too.”
Tumblr media
Well, of course, I am. But he’d learned by now not to say that out loud.
“I would like to...” He let out a sigh as he tried to think of what humans called it. “Oh... you know. Where you go somewhere and do something.”
“Uh...” you muttered, extremely confused. “Like... hanging out?”
“No,” he sighed. “It’s more than that.”
“Oh, like a date?”
“Yes! A date!”
“You... want to go on a date with me?”
“Yes.”
“I...” you chuckled softly, feeling your cheeks blush even more. “I’m flattered, but... I hardly know you.”
“Well... isn’t that what dates are for? To get to know someone?”
You opened your mouth to retort but closed it when you realized... he was right. So you shrugged and let out a little sigh.
“All right.” What was the harm in going on one date, right?
After closing your front door behind you, you leaned your back against it and let out a rather large sigh.
What was the harm in going on one date?
Okay, well, if it hadn’t turned out to be the best date you’d ever been on... There wouldn’t have been any harm.
Jungshin had taken you to a quaint cafe with delicious food. You’d walked through a beautiful park, talking about everything and nothing.
He was a bit strange in some way, but he was extremely smart and actually really funny. He’d made you laugh so many times you’d lost count, and when he acted like he hadn’t even been trying to make you laugh, you had laughed even more.
You couldn’t really put your finger on it.... There was just something about him. You felt a crazy kind of connection, and you figured it had to be that “chemistry” thing people always talked about in movies.
So... you went on another date with him a couple evenings later. And yet another the week after. And another and another and another... Eventually, you were smiling like an idiot as you texted him. You found yourself thinking about him a good majority of the day. You wanted to see him as often as you could.
You thought things were going well - they were going well - until one evening.
You and Jungshin were currently in your apartment, sitting cross-legged on the floor of your bedroom. He had shown far too much interest in your guitar, so you’d practically forced him to let you give him lessons.
You’d only been teaching him for a couple of days, but he’d picked it up fairly quickly.
“Yeah, there you go,” you murmured after you’d re-positioned his finger on one of the strings. You’d had to lean in close, and you could feel his eyes watching you.
So before you pulled away, you snuck in a kiss, a smirk pulling at your lips.
Jungshin chuckled softly, kissing you again before you had a chance to pull away.
Your first kiss had been... awkward. To say the least. It had honestly seemed like Jungshin hadn’t even known what a kiss was. He’d looked at you with an expression of extreme confusion and asked you what you’d just done.
But now he seemed to have no qualms with it.
“You’ve gotten really good at this,” you whispered, your lips still brushing over his.
“At what? The guitar?”
“Well, I meant kissing, but yes. Guitar, too.”
“I should hope so, I’m --” But he stopped talking abruptly.
“You’re... what?”
He stared at you for a few moments before moving the guitar off to the side. He scooted to sit in front of you, taking your hands and gazing intently into your eyes.
“What’s going on?” you asked, suddenly apprehensive.
“There’s something I need to tell you.”
“Okay...”
“I’m... not... who you think I am.”
Oh god, he was married. You were his side piece.
“What do you mean?” you gulped.
“I’m...” he licked his lips, obviously struggling to come up with the right words. “You’re not even going to believe me, but... I’m not exactly human.”
“So... you’re not married?”
“What? No. I’m a God. The God of Music, to be precise. That’s why I can learn to play so easily.”
Obviously, you were immediately concerned for his mental health. But after a while (and a phone call to Minhyuk), he was able to convince you. He explained why he was here, and he told you everything about where he came from. You listened with a keen ear until a thought occurred to you.
“Wait, do you ever get to go back? Are you just... stuck as a human forever?”
Jungshin bit the inside of his cheek, and you knew immediately you wouldn’t like the answer.
“No... I mean, no, I’m not stuck as a human forever. I can go back after three months.”
“...Oh.” You guys had been seeing each other for almost two months now...
“Yeah.”
“So... we have a month left?”
He nodded. And... your heart kind of broke? On one hand, you were angry he hadn’t told you this before. You probably wouldn’t have wasted your time if you knew he was just going to up and leave you after three months.
But on the other hand... you couldn’t regret anything.
“Let’s make the most of it, then,” you told him, trying to smile. You had always been optimistic, so why not just make the best of the situation?
For the next month, you spent as much time with Jungshin as you could. You went on countless dates, continued guitar lessons, shared hundreds of kisses... To be honest, it was probably the best month of your life.
You kept pushing away the thought of him leaving. And you also kept pushing away the thought you were falling in love with him. Because you didn’t want to fall in love with him. He was leaving. You would literally never see him again, so what was the point?
And when the day finally came for him to go back, you found yourself nearly telling him those three words about ten different times. But was there any use? Would anything happen if you did tell him? It’s not like he would just... decide to stay. Not for you. Why would he?
So you simply sniffed back tears, a watery smile on your lips as he cradled your cheek. As he kissed your forehead.
As he walked away.
After you cried into your pillow for a good hour, you told yourself you could do this. You could go back to life as usual, and you could eventually forget about Jungshin. You could. You really could!
Probably.
...Most likely.
But the next day you found you were simply going through the motions of your routine. You weren’t paying any attention at all at work, and your boss even forced you to go home because you weren’t being productive in the least.
You figured you were still just getting used to him being gone, and when enough time had passed, you would be fine. Back to normal.
But then a week passed. And you still felt... empty. You still cried every night. You still dreamed about him.
Your mind was in such a fog, you even thought you saw him in that crowd of people over there. Man, you really needed to get some sleep.
Wait a second... That figment of your imagination was... getting closer? And... he was looking right at you? And... smiling?
“Y/N,” you heard him say as he approached you.
You stood there, staring. Blinking. You rubbed your eyes, but he was still there.
“Y/N, it’s me,” he chuckled, reaching out and putting his hands on your shoulders.
You jumped at his touch. It felt far too real to be all in your head.
“Jungshin?” you croaked, your heart starting to beat faster. “What -- what are you doing --?”
“I laughed at Minhyuk when I first came here,” he interrupted, his fingers gripping your shoulders. “He gave up his powers because he came here and fell in love with a human. I thought it was ridiculous and unfathomable.”
A soft smile pulled at his lips as he gazed down at you, and your heart was beating uncontrollably fast now.
“But I understand now. I didn’t realize another person could make me feel this way. That I could... misssomething -- someone so much. I have no idea if you feel the same way, but I figured I would come back... just to see.”
You swallowed the lump in your throat, and you somehow found the strength to speak. “You... came back? For me?”
He nodded, his brow furrowed, obviously worried about what you were thinking.
You stared at him in silence for a few moments.
This was crazy. He was crazy, you were crazy, this world was crazy.
But those thoughts flew from your head the moment you stood on your toes and pressed your lips to his.
Who really cared about crazy, anyway?
