Ah yes the one thing missing from my intense and off-putting personality was regularly euthanizing and dissecting lab rats
#tw animal death#pls do not read these tags if youre squeamish or uncomfy w animal death at all#i wont get too graphic but just as a heads up i treat this webbed site like ny diary lol#my research is interesting tho! i watched my first collection and it was unfortunate#but im excellent at compartmentalizing so i wasnt *too* bothered#they get a dope ass drug cocktail that puts them to sleep the worst is ensuring death by severing their spinal chord#that happens after theyve been unresponsive for a few minutes but it just makes it so theres absolutely no ambiguity#but we had to knock her bc she was pregnant and unfortunately unable to give birth naturally due to the estrogen treatment she gets#which is used in conjunction w cre lines to create a genetic recombinase that we are using to study a gene responsible for HDR syndrome#so her embryos were genetically modified and hopefully one of them was a knockout mouse#in which case we can study the effects of this gene during development and how it causes HDR#and hopefully eventually lead to a gene therapy that could treat hdr :]#its a rare but p nasty disease so while collections suck the mice are dying very noble deaths#point is that i was sitting there watching my labmate pin the embryos to the petri dish in exactly the same position jesus was crucified in#and it hit me that if my personality was off-putting before i can only imagine what regularly doing this will do djdnsbdjsn#i am relieved to report that i did feel a little twinge when she died :( she was jus a little guy#i was a lil concerned that this would awaken some sick twisted power rush in me#nevertheless i am still feeling very cycle pathic and dennisesque this evening.#decapitating a pregant mouse with scissors doesnt exactly make you feel completely sane no matter how how bad you feel about it#apologies for the rambly tags its been an interesting experience 2day#personal
