the worst part is he’s literally one of the nicest sweetest kids i know and fully meant it without any malice or spite in his heart but also goddamn little buddy you’re gonna kill someone with your words one of these days
i’m gonna cry my mom and brother were talking about those like apple vision glasses (my brother’s a big tech bro) and my mom brought up her concern over the lack of human connection and isolation widespread use of those could cause, only for my little cousin (the 9 year old) to go, “it’s okay auntie! by the time those become popular, you’ll be dead!”
#icarus speaks#he says these things all the time i love him#we were at a restaurant a few weeks back#and it was like. a small establishment right. the floor space was the size of maybe a typical classroom#and he very turns to his mom and very loudly proclaims ‘wow mom this town only has geezers huh?’#(paraphrased bc of translation issues but essentially he used a very blunt term for ‘old people’)#and his mom (dying inside) had to be like no sweetie you can’t say that

Fic: Path Of A Hero (in the game of life)
Fic: Path Of A Hero (in the game of life)
Fandom: My Hero Academy (Boku no Hero Academia) / The Gamer (더 게이머)
Summary: Izuku Midoriya develops a Quirk that takes a while for him to understand - it’s almost as if he’s a player in a game. Stat points and level ups - if he plays his cards right, he could be the greatest hero of them all.
AN: I love Gamer fics, so here’s a short intro to a Gamer!Izuku. Powers as based off of the Gamer Manwha (sort of).
-
Midoriya Inko drifts through the games store. It’s not that Izuku needs more toys, exactly, it’s just… he’s been so down ever since the visit to the doctor. If another All Might action figure will make him happy again, then she’ll give him another All Might action figure.
She bites her lip contemplatively, staring at the choices. Now. He definitely has that one – the Silver Age costume. And she thinks that he has that one, as well. There are a bunch of smaller figures – but maybe they’re too small? He might choke on them. Maybe an action figure isn’t right, she might get him a colouring book instead, or a poster. But his walls are already covered in them and she doesn’t really want them to spill over into the living room…
The display TV at the end of the aisle blares, switching from the racing cars to a cartoonish representation of All Might himself.
You Too Can Be A Hero! The screen proclaims, All Might giving an exaggerated thumbs up. It switches out to a quick clip of him fighting.
A video game. Inko perks up. That might just be the thing. Something to let Izuku be the hero he wants to be, that he can’t be, even if just make believe. And, well, she knows sometimes things are rough with his friends, that the other boys are just… too rough, sometimes, for her little one. He’s not made for rough and tumble the way Katsuki-chan is.
A video game might be a bit old for him… but she can always play it with him! She brightens. Yes, it can be something they can do together!
Hero Origins! The screen proclaims.
Inko turns away to find a copy.
-
“Izuku~” she calls cheerfully, when she gets home. More cheerfully than she usually would, maybe, but she can already imagine how happy he’s going to be. “Mommy has a present for you!”
Izuku shuffles out, nothing like his usual bundle of energy. His eyes are still red and a little teary, but he isn’t actually crying, and he looks a little interested. “A present?” he asks.
Inko presents the box to him with a flourish and giggles at the way his eyes widen. “All Might!” He says, eagerly taking it from her.
“It’s a game!” she says. “So you can be All Might! Isn’t that cool?”
“Wow! Can I play it now?”
“After dinner,” she temporises, glad to see some life back in her son. “And only if you eat your vegetables~”
After dinner, they sit down in front of the TV, and Inko pulls Izuku into her lap. She really doesn’t know very much about video games, but he seems entranced even by the opening credits and music, gleefully bouncing in place.
There’s plenty of pre-game selections, all kinds of stat boxes and move choices that Inko doesn’t really understand. She tries to move through them quickly, so Izuku doesn’t get bored, but he gasps, loudly at the first screen.
“I’m a hero! Mom, mom! I’m a hero!”
She laughs. “You sure are!”
“I can do that too!”
She finds the auto select button and lets the game decide what it needs to do. “Okay~ little hero, are you ready?”
On screen, All Might throws a heroic pose. “In a small town, a hero awakens-“
-
Hours later, Izuku is still entranced.
“Bedtime,” Inko says, putting down the controller.
“But mom!” he protests immediately.
“Nuh-uh,” she retorts, firmly but playfully. “Go brush your teeth!” she casts around and draws inspiration from the last few hours of entertainment. “It’s a very important quest!”
His eyes flicker around, wide and staring. “Okay!” He agrees, so fast the word trips over itself, and charges off towards the bathroom. There’s an excessive splashing of water and the sounds of spitting. “Yatta! Tooth brushing level one!”
Inko laughs and laughs.
Izuku’s obsession with the game doesn’t rival his obsession with heroes (or even with All Might) but it does come close. He loves to describe things in terms of quests or achievements or skill points. After a few days, Inko sits down and pulls out her scrapbooking kit and turns Izuku’s list of chores into a reasonable copy of the quest screen. Izuku’s Quest Log!
Never has there been a boy so happy to do the dishes, after that. His good mood seems to have bounded back, and twice as strong as before.
And, like his obsession with heroes, he throws his all into studying it. The game mechanisms, the attributes and how best to spend skill points. He loves to analyse things to death, even turning to the internet to see what strategies other people use.
