BEST FIND OF 2017 (so far) - 三生三世十里桃花
what. was. wrong. with. me. in. 2016? how why what. okay im done with korean drama guys.
hahahaha.  after this drama, i have learnt that good cinematography is a lame excuse to like a drama (*cough goblin *cough). and that good cinematography CAN exist with good storylines as well, plus, relatable guys and girls. (i really doubt joon hyung exists in real life. ye hua is definitely more real. idiots are real.)
this show impressed me on so many levels, i just cant.
for one, the leads are extremely likeable. look at them, yang mi and mark chao these 2 cuties what’s there not to like about them? i have to admit that mark chao wasn’t an immediate love (he has never seemed like the wu xia kinda guy and he did look weird in some posters) but he really grows on you. i loved how his expression were all on-point and how he could be the love-sick pleased puppy one moment, become his royal pompous girl-hating prince next before crumbling into a sorrowful teary boy. (i wouldnt say that moyuan was as difficult to portray) i could watch the drama again just to see him and his acting. and yang mi! i loved how she transitioned so naturally from a loyal disciple si ying to a clueless yet lovable susu and finally into the proud bai qian. like HOW was she able to act all 3 characters so differently and yet we know it’s all the same person. it’s beyond me, this cannot be easy to depict. which other drama had such attention to details whereby a person loses their memory and still displays the same character? (i cannot say this is the same for the girl in goblin. she grew up into something completely different, which honestly, i didnt like.)
so much talent.
secondly, i loooooooved the whole story of siyin-moyuan, siyin-lotus, susu-yehua, baiqian-yehua and baiqian-moyuan and all their ups and downs. i mean, they could have done the whole show on them and im sure i would have loved it. (yepp, i dont really care for the side stories. like i really cant sympathise w fengjiu/dijun and lijing/siyin and other weird ones like yanzhi and that guy?) and it just got more delicious cos of how sujin tries so hard but yehua is just SO VICIOUS to her. I LOVED IT. hahahhaa. the whole sujin/xuannv moments did get on my nerves but the show wouldn’t have been the same without them. like these girls are CRAZY. hahahahhaha. then the way the guys treat them back tickle me so. eeheeeee.
thirdly, i thought the storyline and script was solid. it’s 58 episodes long mind you and i was already struggling so hard with the 14-16 episode-long korean dramas. this MUST mean something hahahah! i cant say it was perfect but it certainly held my attention all the way. i have to mention that some side-plots were better left aside tho (like the whole yanzhi and that guy? who actually cared?!) hahaha.
the OST is great. i was a lil saddened that my fav song ended up being a dijun-fengjiu song (dijun is too stoic for my liking. fengjiu is superduper cute tho) but our protagonist songs are nice too HAHAHAHA.
healthy doses of brotherhood, family ties and bromance!!! i loooove the whole qingqiu gang. they are so cool and awesome! zheyan and 4th bro are abit too gay LOL but i love how they’re always there for qianqian. 4th bro is the best! and 3rd uncle of yehua!!! i loved how he stood by our poor protagonist as his wing-man, counselor, protector and overall good guy. he’s such a decent uncle who only wanted the best for his poor nephew. it’s almost weird how distanced his parents are and he chooses to seek his uncle as his bff and even father-figure? (the mother i can understand but the dad... maybe he took issues with the fact that his wife got preggers by touching a lotus HAHHA). and si ming! his steadfast loyalty to dijun and cute friendship with fengjiu was such a joy to watch. his soothing voice is a plus too! (((: this reminds me of the great support cast bok joo had in her friends and family as well. (:
the cinematography. i took a while to get used to the cgi tbh (like please, compare it to goblin or W hahahhaa fml) but there were some scenes that were just shot so beautifully. the whole scenes of susu seeking her death, truly stunning and unforgettable. (: and despite how lame the whole scene was,i really really liked the scene of yehua meeting baiqian in the plum blossom forest. <3
the beautiful cast and costumes. (with the exception of ye hua’s flowery kimono shit. dammit.) aren’t they all gorgeous?! FUCK YES. even everyone’s beloved sujin and xuan nv. both very very pretty ladies. and im sure li jing creeped into your heart for a moment when he saved siyin and confessed his love to her. (: im sure people hated ye hua’s feathery outer coat which kinda made him look like some new-born chick but i... really liked it HHAHAHA. some of the head pieces were questionable but... haha okay.
i could go on and on really. even the BTS was absolutely adorable. yang mi and mark chao clearly enjoyed each other’s company (as friends of course hahaha) which explains their undeniable chemistry hehe. love how they poke fun at each other and themselves. and how they both regarded the lovey-dovey scenes w some disdain HAHAHHA.
IT’S EVERYTHING I’M LOOKING FOR IN A DRAMA. HAHAHAHA.
