If I hurry up and finish this draft, I'll be able to edit! I'm so excited!
#adventures in writing#legitimately excited#if i manage to finish this it'll be the longest story i've written since 'out of the tomb'#which is pathetic but still a milestone#there'll be a lot of editing to do#because there's a lot of things that can be fleshed out or at made more specific#i can cut out repetition#get rid of continuity errors#develop characters#it's been so long since i could edit at this scale#short story editing is mostly a question of proofreading#because if you've got a short story with a complete plot#you've got a solid story#there's not much room to reshape things#this story won't be much longer than my longest-finished work (i'm guessing 12000 words)#but there's potential to make it longer#i can add color! and detail! and depth!#legitimately so excited#and having so much fun blasting through the draft that i'm getting delusions of grandeur#thinking it'll be easy to crank out drafts of other stories#and forgetting that the extensive editing could be a labor-intensive process when i use this strategy#but let me have this for now
