hi! i bumped into one of your comments on daoism and the afterlife in a witchcraft community and i would like to hear more right now! could you send some good sources my way? thank!
hi!! sorry that it took me a few hours to respond, today's been weird. i'll do my best to answer this question, but if you have any more questions or need further clarification feel free to reach out to me! i love talking about daoism, but i don't really do it often simply because i don't have many other daoists in my life. i'll talk your ear off if you let me! ☆~(ゝ。∂)
one great article on the daoist soul is here! it's pretty simple and easy to understand, especially if you're only just getting into daoism. i will mention that this article describes the soul as consisting of three hún parts and seven pò parts. this is a contested belief... some daoist schools agree and some daoist schools disagree with it ╮(╯∀╰)╭ that's the fun thing about daoism: none of us really know what's going on, so there is a lot of room to allow yourself to be guided by your instincts. after all, the dao that can be told is not the eternal dao! (~_^)
of course, though, if you're super duper new to daoism i recommend reading the core text of the religion, dao de jing. you can read it for free online here, but if this one doesn't make sense that's okay! there are lots of different translations. reading the dao de jing will help you understand the basic concepts that apply to the philosophy of the religion. these core concepts ultimately affect the way the afterlife is perceived.
one final recommendation is tai shang ching-ching ching, aka cultivating stillness. there's an excellent translation by eva wong (i love her) that you can read here for free, or if you prefer a physical book you can get one on thrift books for as low as $9.59! cultivating stillness is a book about inner alchemy. it doesn't explicitly state much about the afterlife iirc, but it does discuss some more details about the soul and how to nurture it a bit.

The Woman Behind The World’s Most Famous Tarot Deck Was Nearly Lost In History
For centuries, people of all walks of life have turned to tarot to divine what may lay ahead and reach a higher level of self-understanding.
The cards’ enigmatic symbols have become culturally ingrained in music, art and film, but the woman who inked and painted the illustrations of the most widely used set of cards today – the Rider-Waite deck from 1909, originally published by Rider & Co. – fell into obscurity, overshadowed by the man who commissioned her, Arthur Edward Waite.
Now, over 70 years after her death, the creator Pamela Colman Smith has been included in a new exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York highlighting many underappreciated artists of early 20th-century American modernism in addition to famous names like Georgia O’Keeffe and Louise Nevelson.

See, crochet is divination because I'll see some shit on witchblr, go crochet to calm down, fall into trance and accidentally become a philosopher. Quite honestly, any work like this. I've had friends get hit with trance because cutting vegetables became too rhythmic and I've sometimes been pushed into trance or dream by spirits at random intervals when I was doing something like walking.
It's always when your brain shuts off that you get hit with the subtle reality of the world and then realize you didn't count your fucking stitches

happy samhain!!
i wanted to share my halloween costume: a witch! although, a witch dressing up as a witch might not really count as a costume (˶‾᷄ ⁻̫ ‾᷅˵)
my plans include handing out candy to the neighborhood kids, and then staying up late tonight to do a few spells and divinations! ☆彡
i’ll also be lighting a memorial candle for my recently departed familiar. it’s my first samhain without him, so the vibes are a little more somber than when i usually celebrate the spookiest day of the year.
anyways, here’s my costume! simple but cute

"AI" offerings are the digital equivalent of leaving all yer trash on the ground after a ritual in a park, forest, etc.
Please research the environmental impact of those automated art theft image/text generators.
Artists have flooded the internet with free creative assets, tutorials, barter offers and free commission slots. Use them.
I assure you the Gods will fuckin' thrilled for any offering that doesn't hurt Jörð for the creative chickenshittery of techbros.

What is your witchy hot take?
Rules for this post:
Give the benefit of the doubt. If it seems like a blanket statement, it probably isn't, it's probably just based on that person's experience or belief system. Also don't turn it into some weird bigoted stuff or you get blocked.
MY witchy hot take is that I think tarot decks you choose personally match your energy better than those gifted to you.
How are you gunna know if you vibe with it if you've never messed with it before? I vibe with the one's I've been gifted, of course, but not as much as those that I choose myself.

You can write down as many correspondences as you want, memorize entire lists from someone else's blog or book or whatever, but none of it will matter if you do not understand those correspondences. It's so critically important to ask "Why?"
Why is spirit purple? Why is love red? Why is chamomile calm? Why is quartz "all purpose"? Why does cinnamon speed up a spell?
Why, why, why?
What do you actually believe? And why?

hii, can you tell me more about the enchantment you put on your watch and how it works, pretty please? ʕ·ᴥ·ʔ
also, please excuse my main blog, it's a safe space but if it makes you uncomfy feel free to tell me >< /gen
hi! (。´∀`)ノ i don't mind your personal blog at all! i'd be happy to expand on enchanting! d(・∀・○)
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚ preface ˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*
all of my spell work is rooted in my own personal beliefs and practices. i'll gladly share my own process, but i won't be sharing my full spell. this is because i truly believe spells are most powerful when you make them your self! you can definitely use what i share as a sort of guide or template, but don't be afraid to customize my work to make it more suitable for you! 人´∀`)
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚about the enchantment˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*
for this enchantment, we want to work with intentions of focus, memory, and motivation. the enchantment itself is honestly really simple. we want to boost focus to prevent procrastination, boost memory to help keep track of time, and boost motivation motivated for the tasks ahead.
if you're new to spell crafting, a website called "pinecone.pub" is a pretty useful resource for finding herbs and crystals to match intent! don't be afraid to get a bit creative. maybe you might decide to utilize the element of water to symbolize the smooth flow of time. or you could use sunstone to symbolize the desire for productive days! spend some time thinking about what you want to add, and follow your intuition!!
one thing i really recommend is waiting to cast this spell when you feel the most energized. personally, i'm more of a night owl and i tend to get most of my best work done in the evening. so, i cast this enchantment at around evening time! listen to your body's circadian rhythm. do you tend to feel more energized during the morning? maybe the afternoon? whatever time you notice your energy naturally peak is when i would recommend casting this enchantment.
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚the process˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*
now that you've gathered your materials and chosen your time, this is how i cast the enchantment! feel free to customize these steps to fit your craft better!
: ̗̀➛ cleanse your work space and your materials. be extra sure to cleanse the watch you're enchanting!
: ̗̀➛ in a bowl, place an unlit tapered candle in the center. this candle will sort of act almost like a timer. the fire acts as a catalyst for enchantment. i like to use a small votive candle holder for this, so the candle holder goes in the center of the bowl with the candle in side.
: ̗̀➛ place the watch you're enchanting around the candle holder. if you aren't using a candle holder, you don't want to wrap the watch too close around the candle for safety reasons
: ̗̀➛ now, while focusing on the intention for each ingredient, surround the watch in the bowl with your chosen ingredients. if you're using herbs, know that you don't have to fill the entire bowl with herbs. just use enough to create a circle around the watch.
: ̗̀➛ after adding all your ingredients, light the candle. keep watch as the candle burns - we don't want to start any house fires!
: ̗̀➛ once the candle completely burns out, the spell is complete!
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚ what comes next ˚*•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚*
an enchanted watch can be very useful if utilized correctly! here are a few tips i use to get the most out of this enchantment.
refresh the enchantment every quarter. every january, april, july, and october i redo this enchantment to keep it fresh. one thing i really like to do is include an element of each season in the spell to help resemble the passage of time! for example, in january i add a pinch of sugar (i always associate winter with sweet treats lol), in april i add the bloom of a wisteria tree, in july i use watermelon seeds, and in october i'll use an acorn.
make an effort to create a schedule to follow! this spell works best when you have an actual schedule to follow. the enchanted watch helps keep you on schedule... but how are you going to stay on schedule if you don't have a schedule? there are loads of ways to make schedules! i personally recommend time blocking. asana has a great article about it called "7 tips to start time blocking your schedule today"!
ᴄᴏᴍᴘʟᴇᴛᴇ!
that's essentially it!! i hope i was able to explain it properly... i feel like i'm not the best at explaining my spells (๑•́ ₃ •̀๑) if you still have question, let me know!

When to Consult Divination
You're stuck in the decision-making process and want help thinking through it from a different angle.
You need to sort out your thoughts. Divination is good for breaking out of a circular thought process and approaching it in a different way.
You want something to focus and reflect on for the coming day/month/chapter in your life.
You need a second opinion on something spiritual.
You want something to aid your planning process by suggesting steps and strategies
You want advice for how to tackle a situation.
When NOT to Consult Divination
You're fishing for a specific answer and just want something to validate you. Your bias WILL get in the way of the truth.
You want very specific details about a future that hasn't happened yet. (What will my husband be like? When will I meet him? How many kids will I have?)
You want to know what someone is thinking/feeling/hiding. Literally just communicate with them.
Asking if you should break up with someone. It's like Googling "am I gay quiz." If you're at this point you already know the answer.

5 tips for the work-at-home witch ദ്ദി(˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧
when i'm not witching around, i actually have a day job! my job is primarily a work from home job, spending my days alone in my room writing reports and reading legal documents... it gets stale (●´⌓`●) this is a list of some little witchy things i do to keep my head on straight and prevent myself from going mad and impulsively quitting my job!
some of these tips might also work for students!
you might have to switch it up a bit, but some of these tips could help you get through homeschooling, digital learning days, or homework.
₊˚⊹♡ 1. light a candle ♡⊹˚₊
one of the first things i do when i begin work for the day is to light a simple votive candle. the element of fire is a strong element, and by lighting a candle you can harness the energetic energy of the flame. the goal of lighting a candle while you work is to keep yourself "fired up" per say ᕙ(⇀‸‶)ᕗ . light the candle with the intention of remaining motivated and energized. for extra effectiveness, you could dress the candle with herbs that also have energizing metaphysical properties. (remember, though, always double check that your herbs are safe to burn!)
₊˚⊹♡ 2. use a sigil ♡⊹˚₊
sigils are an extremely simple yet effective way to use magick! personally, i like to draw the sigil on the back of my dominant (or "working hand") with a non-permanent marker. if you follow this method, be sure to wash it off once you've finished work for the day! leaving a sigil on your body too long can be a bit draining in my personal experience.
if you're more artsy, you could make a piece of art out of a sigil to keep on your desk. a painting, a piece of embroidery, a sketch, or even some digital art done and turned into your desktop wallpaper (tech witches would love that, i feel.)!
i personally like to make my sigils for work out of phrases like "may i work efficiently", "may my work be done properly", but & "may information come easily to me".
₊˚⊹♡ 3. money bowl ♡⊹˚₊
i actually haven't done this yet (˃ᆺ˂) it's a spell i plan to do during the next full moon.
but! the idea of a money bowl is to essentially bring more money in to your life. if you're looking for a promotion or a pay raise, a money bowl on your desk certainly won't hurt!
₊˚⊹♡ 4. work outside ♡⊹˚₊
if you're able, work somewhere other than you're typical working area at least once a week. coffee shops, libraries... even a different room in your house! the change of energy will keep you from feeling too stagnant.
i really recommend taking your work outside, if able. sometimes, i print out a few documents i need to read and go sit out under a tree in my yard. sitting outside in nature not only helps to keep you grounded, but it also helps foster your connection with the local nature spirits. connecting to your local nature spirits AND getting your work done at the same time... talk about multitasking! (ᴗᵔᴥᵔ) if you can't work outside, then take time during your breaks to step outside. a small walk or even just sitting outside under the sun is enough to help keep your centered.
₊˚⊹♡ 5. enchant a watch ♡⊹˚₊
i have severe ADHD, but i also have severe severe severe anxiety. because of this, under my doctor's guidance, i can't take ADHD medicine for fear of my anxiety medicine not working effectively. since i'm rawdogging my ADHD i tend to have a hard time staying on schedule... so i've enchanted my watch!
i recommend using materials that promote focus and organization. ever since casting an enchantment on my watch, i've noticed an uptick in my overall productivity in all facets of my life - work included. i haven't missed a deadline, and while i still have a nasty habit of procrastinating, once i finally make the effort to begin work i find myself staying on schedule way easier than before.
that's it for now! if you have any questions or would like me to go further into detail about certain things, feel free to send me an ask! <3

Salt Scrub
Salt scrubs are a great way to incorporate physical cleansing into your routine - they help exfoliate, reduce inflammation, and improve blood circulation whilst also having the cleaning and protection qualities of salt, dried herbs, and oils. The recipe is easy, cheap, and quick making it one of the most accessible recipes I have.
Salt scrubs are not recommended for people with skin conditions or sensitive skin, and salt can dry out your skin so be sure to moisturize after use. As a rule of thumb, you should not use a salt scrub more than 1-2 times a week.
General Recipe:
1 cup of sea salt
1/4 cup of carrier oil
10-20 drops of essential oil
1 tbsp of herbs such as lavender, rose or chamomile and/or vitamin E oil (ensure they are crushed well)
In a bowl, stir together the salt and oil
Add the essential oil and herbs
Store in a sealed glass jar in a cool location until ready to use
To use a salt scrub, apply to damp skin in circular motions gentle for 20-30 seconds before rinsing well.
Weekly Cleanse Scrub
1 cup of salt of choice
1/4 cup carrier oil (jojoba, almond, vegetable, sunflower etc.)
10-20 total drops of lemon balm, tea tree, witch hazel and lavender
0.5 - 1 tablespoon moon water
1 tablespoon of dried lavender and lemon peel (optional)
1 tablespoon vitamin E oil (optional)
Venus-Inspired Salt Scrub
1 cup sea salt
1/4 cup of almond oil
1 - 1.5 tablespoons castor oil
10-20 total of drops of the following essential oils: rose, lavender, cedar wood and ylang-ylang or a attraction/love oil
1 tablespoon of dried rose petals
1 tablespoon vitamin E oil
As always, adapt the recipes as needed for what you have and to your own practice <3
