#and have both utterly obliterated the historical longevity within their sports

it’s always wild to me when people state an athlete from their favorite sport is the best athlete from any sport ever and then they get mad when people provide their opinions? like what did you expect
also overall I do not like comparing athletes across sports beyond drawing parallels and highlighting similar levels of greatness. When people try to rank athletes from different sports, it always seems to just devolve into people discrediting other sports and calling them easier/less skilled/less athletic/not hard on the body and that’s just a worthless discussion. Elite sports are brutal. It takes an unimaginable amount of skill and work ethic to excel in any sport. And while I can’t say I know every sport, I’ve known a lot of athletes in my life and I have never met someone who did elite sports for a while and came out of it without any long term physical affects. Sports brutalize our bodies in different ways. Let’s enjoy the greatness before us.
#this is about people trying to rank Biles or Ledecky over the other#what if we stopped and took a second#to realize we have the gift of witnessing two of the greatest athletes ever#who have fully redefined their sports and shattered every barrier of dominance#and have both utterly obliterated the historical longevity within their sports#(female distance swimmers and female gymnasts typically have abt 4 years at peak)#biles hasn’t lost an international all around final in 11 years#Ledecky hasn’t lost an 800 in an international final in 12 years#the fact that they are doing all of this at the same time is magical#we have two women transcending even the term generational talent#competing in the same city at the same time#olympics#Simone biles#katie ledecky
