Jack in Wonderland - Part 7 of more coming real soon
((God dang, it felt like it took me forever to get this part done. I hit a small bit of writer’s block in the beginning, but I should be fine and good to go now. So enjoy this new part!
Hope you all enjoy! I’m not exactly the proudest, but I still think this is an okay chapter!))
“What was it that voice said?”
The question had been bothering him, resurfacing a few minutes after he left the small clearing. He definitely remembered there being a voice among the weird static from before, but for the life of him, he couldn’t remember at all what the voice had said. It almost reminded him of what had happened when he first came to Wonderland.
In fact, thinking about it carefully now, he really couldn’t remember what had exactly happened back then. Just a blank space in between what seemed like memories of recording something or playing video games and waking up in the Kingdom of White Hearts. Sure there were a few fragments, mostly just a feeling of falling, but it was just a huge black space.
Part of him wondered whether there was some kind of connection between the two incidents. It all seemed too perfectly timed to just be written off as a mere coincidences. Then that left another question unanswered. What caused both of them? And exactly what was the connection between the two?
Jack groaned slightly, rubbing his head. All that thinking had caused the unpleasant headache to suddenly return, rather unexpectedly. He wasn’t prepared for it at all, nearly stopping and doubling over in pain due to it. The headache had returned once or twice after he had left, bringing with it unpleasant reminders of the horrible white noise he had heard earlier.
“Really wish Henrik at least gave me something other than aspirin to deal with these stupid things.” He muttered as he dug around in his pockets, searching for the pill bottle Schneeplestein had given him before he had left. “Could’ve just given me some kind of….magic healing pill or potion or whatever. Whatever he did to fix me the first time at least, it couldn’t have been that hard to just use whatever it was he used last time!”
He continued grumbling for a few more minutes, before trailing off into thought once more. This time, it wasn’t about whatever had happened to cause him to suddenly lose memory of recent events. Instead, he noticed a few things about the forest around him. The leaves on the trees were growing brighter red by the second, several of the trees even growing thicker the further he got along. Soon enough, it got to the point where the trees were easily a few feet wide, possibly even as tall as skyscrapers. In between the trees as well were dark red roses and other various wildflowers. It reminded him greatly of the path leading to the White Hearts Kingdom, albeit with red trees and flowers rather than white ones.
“C-Can’t let me in?! W-What do you mean you c-cant let me in?!” Jack couldn’t help but give a small start upon hearing the voice. It sounded like Jackson, still sounding rather subdued (while somehow managing to sound extremely panicked). “Y-You know exactly who I am! I’m the messenger! The King himself told me to come this way!”
“Apologies. But those who serve the King must wear the correct attire.” A second voice, this one metallic and unfamiliar, responded. “Unless you provide proper identification, I cannot let you into the capital. Good day.”
“B-But Bing!” Jackson said, sounding like he was even whining. “Can’t you j-just perform one of y-your face scans or whatever new-fangled doodad you have installed? T-Then you’ll know for sure i-it’s me!”
“Results for face scans negative. Proper identification is needed for entry into the capital, otherwise I am ordered to refuse anyone without the needed identification.” The second voice, Bing, said. “Please present your heart pin and state name and business for entry.” Jack picked up his pace, digging around in his pocket for the item Jackson had dropped all that time ago.
“Hey! Wait, I think I have it!” He yelled, skidding around the corner as he finally pulled the thing from his pocket. This had to be the first time he had ever even seen it clearly. It was a blood red heart pin, almost exactly like the pins both Robbie and Schneeplestein had been wearing except in red.
In front of him was a giant wall, sealed off by a massive wooden gate. Jackson, who had spun around at the sound of his voice, had been talking with what looked like the only guard on duty at the moment. This guard wore a dark red uniform, contrasting the bright yellow and orange lines that ran throughout his entire body. One of his arms even looked robotic underneath his uniform, a small orange logo stamped on the forearm.
“Y-You have it?! Oh thank the heavens!” Jackson exclaimed as Jack ran closer. “I can’t thank you enough for this, good sir! I-- Hold on….” He put a hand on his chin, squinting as he got a good look at Jack. “You’re the lad I ran into all the way back in White Hearts! How on earth did you get here?”
“I...er….followed you to here…?” Jack said rather awkwardly, as he held out the pin. “I noticed you dropped this and...well, I wanted to make sure you got it back. You certainly ended up taking me on one hell of a journey.” Jackson looked stunned, and Jack swore he saw a small flash of what looked like shame cross his face for a moment, as he took the pin.
“I...I see. Golly, I never thought that someone would go that far just to help.” He said. “Thank you again, lad. I guess I was right about us meeting again rather soon. I...don’t suppose you’d be staying around here any longer, would you?”
“Nope. ‘Fraid I really should get a move on.” Jack admitted. “I really do need to get home.”
“Of course, of course! Pleasure meeting you, good sir!” Jackson said, even tipping his hat slightly before he turned back to the guard. “Bing! I have the pin!”
“Please state name and business.”
“Oh for the love of….Fine! My name is Jameson Jackson and I am the Royal Messenger!”
“Jameson Jackson, the White Rabbit and King’s messenger. You are allowed to pass through.” The guard, Bing, stepped aside as the gate opened, wide enough for an animal to pass underneath. “Until you pass through once more.” Jackson simply nodded and, in a large puff of white smoke, transformed into a small white rabbit. The rabbit quickly jumped through, glancing back once as the gate slammed shut.
“Damn, feels weird now that I finally got that back to him.” Jack said, mostly to himself. “Guess all that’s left is just to call Marvin and get back--”
“Stop right there, citizen.” Bing said sharply, causing Jack to nearly jump a foot into the air. “You are not in my databanks. Please state your name.”
“My...name? Just call me Jack at this point. Everyone else basically has.” Jack replied. Bing frowned ever so slightly, his emotionless, dark green eyes flicking up and down.
….For whatever reason, that small observation made Jack extremely uneasy.
“Searching for name; Jack. Please wait while I complete this action.” The guard stood stone still, before the yellow lines running through his whole body gave a flash. “Results found. Wanted; Sean, but goes more by the name of Jack. Wanted by King of Red Hearts. Must be alive upon arrest.”
“Wait, back up a bit there, will ya?!” Jack yelped, holding his hands up in defense. “How the hell am I wanted?! I haven’t done a thing to anyone!”
“Please wait as I compare the picture given and your own. This will only take a few seconds.” Bing said, which only caused Jack to back away a bit. The yellow lines flashed once more and he began moving towards Jack rather slowly. “Results. Perfect match. Please come with me.”
“If I’m under arrest, why exactly am I even going to come!” Jack nearly yelled. “Listen, I understand you’re only doing your job, but I really ought to get going. Been a pleasure meeting you and all, but it’s seriously time for me to get the hell out of here!”
He quickly turned and began running. However, he didn’t get far as he ran into something. To his surprise, it was Bing, somehow standing in front of him. The collision caused Jack to fall to the ground, getting the wind knocked right out of him while Bing barely even flinched.
“Escape is futile. You are coming quietly whether or not you like it.” He said coldly, bending down and grabbing Jack’s arm tightly. His grip was like iron, completely unbreakable. “Apologies for the inconvenience.”
A dead weight settled itself into Jack’s stomach. Whatever was about to happen, he could already tell it wasn’t going to end well at all.
“Excellent work there,p̽uͩ͏p̔̈́p͆ͭ̉è̡̽̒ẗ́͛͢. He’s finally inside these walls.”
“....Y-You know….you told m-me to lead him here….but y-you never told me why? C-Can’t we just leave h-him be? He h-hasn’t done anything wrong, after all!” “I can’t just leͧ̓͆̉͞a̎̓̋͋̂̈́̚͘v̷͐ͭ̓e̎̐́͂̚ ̓̄h͛̄̇ͧim ̾̇ͣ̽ͭ͜b̴͐e̅̂. I N̡ͬ̽̄̆͒E͋ȆD̊͝ him if I want to take down that stuck up p̸̵͒̊ͤͣ̓̑ŗ̨͂ͦỉ͒̂̀̾̅ͭ̆c̷̛̑ͧk͊! He’s M̴͓̌͘Ȋ̵̮̹͆N̷͎͊͜͠E̷͔̔͆!”
“O-Of course sir! I-I understand….t-take down the k-king of White hearts….r-right….”
“Y̊́oͦ͐̾u̔͆͋͛̚҉'̴ͮ̿̆̐ͪ̚d̒͋̋ͯͪ ͛ͭ̅ͫͭ͌̐bͤ̈̿͛e̎ͣ̏̏̕ẗ́ͬ̅̓͛͆̚͜t͐ͦ̅͒̃eͬȓ͂͘. Now leave. I’ve a n͜ew̴ͬ͐͂̓ ͣ̓̔̉p̴ͨu̿ͯͯ́ͫ̄͝ṕ͌͞p̕e͑͆͋́t to meet.”
((The ending, I literally wrote it during a free period in school as the period was ending. So apologies if it’s a bit rushed, that’s entirely on me. But I still hope you all enjoyed it anyways, this is starting to really get fun to write!
Like always, it’s now time for them tags!
