The next few weeks were tough on me, with the already intense stress of trying to remember all of the work we had been doing before the break, and the drama of what had happened.
Draco was mad at me, upset for leaving, as well as whatever Pansy had been whispering in his ear throughout the month. He hadn’t talked to me since christmas and I hate to say it but I missed him. Even though he was quite brainwashed and could be a little shit, I loved him, he was like a little brother to me.
On top of that, Pansy and her gaggle of bitches were harrassing me whenever they could. Ever since they found my room, the fear that I struck in most of the Slytherin house had all but dwindled. At least before they moved out of my way, but now they just look down on me and I hated it. It felt worse than being feared.
Finally there was Fred. Funny, endearing, and absolutely beautiful Fred. Ever since he and the other Weasley’s returned to the school, he has been cold, distant. It was as if the last few months had never happened, that we had never become friends in the first place. George was still talking to me though. That was my only saving grace.
George and I had decided on the library to hang out that day. Melody didn’t want to study that day, instead opting to hang out with Lee by the lake on a date of sorts.
“I honestly have no clue what’s going on with Fred, but I’m worried.” George told me, his voice nervous.
“Has he been the same with you, he won’t even speak to me.”
“He won’t talk to me about anything, but he’s definitely upset about something. This is the first time that he’s never not told me about what’s going on in his head and I don’t like it.”
“Do you think that he’s really upset with me, I don’t know what I could have done.” I was upset to say the least. I missed Fred so much and yet he wouldn’t even give me the time of day. It was agonizing. I liked him so much, maybe even loved, and yet he pushed me away.
George and I stayed and studied for a while, until the time came where we were to go to our next class, Potions, which we all had together. This was going to be difficult to say the least.
When George and I walked into the classroom, Fred was already there, sitting with Angelina Johnson. George was irritated to say the least, and since I knew Melody would be sitting with Lee, I offered him a seat next to me. I glanced at Fred, and he seemed to be even more grumpy than when we had first walked in. Snape began his lecture, his droaning and nasally voice going on and on. I should be paying attention to the work that we were supposed to be doing, on the lecture at hand. Instead, I was glancing at Fred out of the corner of my eye.
Angelina and Fred were sitting together, laughing and whispering together. I felt something, simmering in the pit of my stomach. I had no idea what the feeling was, but it made me want to tear Angelina apart. I didn’t even know why, I like Angelina! She’s nice and witty and good at quidditch, and well, basically everything I was but better. She was the perfect version of me, one with no baggage, no psychotic family members or racist family history. Who wouldn’t pick her? The burning feeling soon turned to sadness, this lump in my throat that only got worse and worse. George looked at me, and saw as tears began to well in my eyes, fighting to keep them from falling, I couldnt let the other students see me like this, it would push me even farther down the chain of respect and I couldnt have that. George raised his hand, and was called on.
“Professor, Y/N’s not feeling good, do you think I could walk her back to her common room.”
Snape thought for a moment, clearly trying to weigh his biases in his head, before allowing it. As quickly as he could, George walked me out of the classroom, trying to get me a good enough distance from the classroom before my legs gave out under me against the wall, tears falling down my face.
“Y/N, what’s wrong? Tell me.”
“I don’t know, just, Angelina, the two of them, ugh, I feel so pathetic.” I laughed at myself through my tears. “I mean, who would even think I have a chance next to her.” George looked me straight in the eyes, both of us on the floor now, putting his hand on my shoulder to try and reassure me.
“Y/N, if he can’t see that you’re the absolute perfect girl for him, then he’s either blind, or just plain stupid, knowing my brother, its probably a bit of both.” His joke made me laugh, and he handed me a tissue from his pocket.
“Thanks, I just feel so hopeless, yknow? Like, the two of you, and Mel are the only good things right now, and even that's been ruined.”
“Believe me Y/N, I get it more than you know.” His eyes looked far away, kind of wistful and longing.
“So who’s the girl?”
“If I say, it's only going to make it worse.” I thought through all of the different clues, before coming to the most logical explanation.
“Its Angelina, isnt it?” I folded my hands in front of my chest giving him a knowing look.
“Yeah,” He said. “Now I know that you think I’m just saying that because I want her all for myself, don’t you?” I silently nodded, tears starting to prick at my eyes again.
“Well, that’s not true, I’m being serious. If he’s not going to man up, then he must be an idiot.” I didn’t believe him in the slightest, but I pretended to. “Come on, let's head to lunch early, I dont think you want the others seeing you like this when they leave.”
The two of us headed to the cafeteria, simply working on homework at our respective tables, until the rest of the students began pouring into the large hall. I saw Melody walk in, sitting down next to me.
“You feeling better?”
“Honestly, Mels, it's not that kinda sick. It’s just, Fred, yknow?” She silently nodded. She knew all of the events that had happened, or lackthereof. Although she knew about it, she wasnt as involved as George, I mean, she had her own things to do and I understood.
George was sitting close to me, in a way, our backs to eachother, so Mel and Lee could continue their conversation from Potions. I heard heavy, angry footsteps behind me, and I took a peek as to who it was. Fred was angry, but for what reason I couldnt understand. I could hear the conversation from behind me.
“George, can we talk outside for a moment.” His voice was trying to mask his rage.
“Fine” George responded, and Fred walked the two of them outside of the cafeteria.
I tried to stay out of it, I tried to sit there, and eat and talk to Lee and Mel as if nothing had happened, but after 5 minutes, the curiosity got the better of me. What if Fred was finally saying something as to why he was so distant, ignoring me for so long. It was a miserable experience and I just had to know why.
I told Melody that I was going to the bathroom, and then ran off, looking for the two boys.
I walked down the hall, searching around for them, when I heard yelling, two voices that I knew so well. I looked around for a moment, before finding a door that I had never seen in this hallway before. I put my ear up to the door. The voices were muffled, but I could sort of make out what the boys were saying.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about, Fred, am I not allowed to have friends?”
“You and I both know that it's not just friends.”
“I’m not lying, it’s not my fault that you’ve been being an asshole and pushing us away!” The yells were immediately silenced, replaced with the sounds of skin coming in contact with skin, yelps of pain and growls of anger.
“Alohamora” The lock quickly undid, and I pushed the door open as fast as I could. Fred had wrestled George on the ground, punching him into the floor, as George was trying as hard as possible to gain the upper hand. I quickly wracked my brain for something to separate the two without putting myself at risk before finding the perfect incantation “Relashio!”
The two looked at me, then looked at each other, trying to go at it again, but I quickly cast the Colloshoo hex, sticking both boys’ feet firmly on the ground.
“You too are unbelievable, you know that? You are brothers for Merlin’s sake, what the hell has gotten into you?” George began to speak but I cut him off, I was too angry to listen. “Fred, you need to check yourself this instant, your behavior in the last month has not been that of a friend. Friends are supposed to be kind to each other, supposed to support each other, talk to each other at the very least! Once you’re ready to explain yourself, I'll be in the astronomy tower. George, if he tries anything like that again, you sure as hell better tell me.”
“Can you at least let us go?” George asked, as I opened the door of the mystery room.
“It’ll wear off in an hour, you two need to talk through some things.” I shut the door behind me. I was angry, confused, and upset, all of those emotions culminating in the only way that my body could understand, once again tears began to run down my face. Luckily classes had ended early today, because if not, I would have had to go to a History of Magic looking like this mess.  The only thing that I could do was go to the astronomy tower, and hope that Fred had gotten over himself enough to come and talk to me, explain why all of a sudden he was acting like this.

A list of my favourite fictional grey characters (not in order) SPOILER ALERT!
Regina Mills (Once Upon A Time)
There is a reason why Regina is called «The Evil Queen» She was pure evil. A murderer, a kidnapper, a rapist, how could I like her? Well it wasnt before season 3 I started to like her. It took a lot of time. And I suppose I will never fully love her after she raped Graham for...years... and murdered people - children when she was a tiny bit frustrated. I would even say that she is irredeemable. And I thought her redemtion arc was unrealistic in the beginning, and for God’s sake, she should not have been crowned The Good Queen in season 7. But she tried to change so hard for Henry, she tried to redeem herself. Tried to be a good mother for a change. She saved multiple lives and souls. She didnt completely redeem herself, I must admit it. But she tried so hard and I feel like she deserves something from that. She eventually became a very good mother, even though it was a little late since Henry was already 12 when she became one. She was still a bitter bitch and blamed innocent people for unfortunate things that happened to her (Zelena, Mary Margaret, Emma) but by season 7, she became something more than that. She became half good. Grey. And even though she didnt completely redeem herself, she came close. Also, I love her sassy personality, she should be crowned The Sassy Queen, not The Good Queen.
Rumplestiltskin (Once Upon A Time)
The Dark One who after 7 seasons became one of the greatest heroes in OUAT. The man who was known as the village coward because he ran away from the Ogre War and was too afraid to fight for his wife became one of the bravest men. Like Regina, he was a murderer. He was super manipulative with all his deals and the «all magic comes with a price, dearie» thing. He manipulated people into getting themselves killed. Before he became The Dark One, he was a good man with a pure heart. But the power of the dagger took over him and his heart was all black. He was power sick. He always wanted power, but not for selfish reasons. He felt like he needed power to protect his son Bealfire/Neal and his wife Milah, but when he took that power, the darkness came over him and he, after time, became evil. It wasn’t before he met Belle French his heart showed a little bit of light. As he said, she was his light in an ocean of darkness. Their relationship was problematic and selfish in the beginning. He manipulated her into thinking he changed (which you know i detest *cough* James Potter) Rumple loved power more than he loved her, at least in season 4. He too often chose it over her, until season 6 when he started to properly redeem himself. His redemtion arc took over 300 years but it came in the end. His love for her changed A LOT. In the other seasons, his love was unhealthy and selfish. But in season 6 and 7, he changed a lot. This time it wasnt only for Belle, but Gideon too. They helped him let go of power and in season 7, he tried so hard to get rid of the dagger and the power so that he could live a normal life with his family. And after Belle died, he didn’t return to the dagger or the dark side. He helped the good side to defeat Drizella and the other villians in that season. He even became a father figure to Alice. And in the end he sacrificed himself to save Killian’s (Nook) life. And he got reunited with Belle. He is the most interesting character in OUAT, no doubt there.
Sawyer/James Ford (LOST)
Sawyer is without a doubt one of my fave characters from LOST (after Charlie and John) in his background, he was a thief and manipulated woman to believe he loved them, just to take all their money. (Maybe except Cassidy, since he fell in love with her later, but he still manipulated her AND got her pregnant) He’s a real asshole. Buuut - then he became an entirely different (and better) man. He meets Kate Austen and I feel like his love for her changes his character. In the beginning he was a bit of a perve with her (i mean, walking straight towards her completely naked...) he doesnt develope much in the 1 season, but later (beginning in the 3 season) he becomes quite selfless and protective. In season (was it 4? I dont quite remember) he falls in love again with Juliet Burke, and heeeeell, she was good for him. He also developes a nice relationship with Claire Littleton (platonic) he becomes protective of her. He attemts to comfort Hurley after Charlie’s death. In the rest of the seasons he is the born leader. He puts the team before himself (like when he sacrificed his chance to escape the Island) and in the paralell universe he is absolutely the best.
Heathcliff (Wuthering Heights)
Okay, no he’s not exactly a grey character since he’s a lot more dark than light, but I love him too much to not put him here. Differently from the other character I’ve mentioned above, Heathcliff doesnt have a redemtion. He died an awful person. He abused and manipulated a lot of people. Before he became this asshole, he was a much better person. He was an ass to those who deserved it (Hindley, That bitch deserved to die so young. Edward was a kind man, but I don’t like him, sooo... nevermind) The way he treated Isabella was sickening and awful, she had every right to leave him and take Linton away and hate him. I Don’t like Isabella, but she never deserved to be treated that way. His love for Cathy was unhealthy, but it was true and he would do so much for her. (They kinda remind me of Snily, so ofc I ship it) Heathcliff went through so much trauma in his life and never recovered. After Cathy died, he was practically dead too, then he killed himself years later. His life made me cry for days, especially the ending. He is such an interesting character with so many layers.
Ulrich Nielsen (Dark)
(Before I say anything, I haven’t finished the entire show yet, so this is gonna be short and probably not 100% correct)
To be honest, I don’t like Ulrich at all as a person. I look at him and I see a fully grown up man with no remorse for what he did to Regina as a teen. He cheated on his wife with a woman he didnt even love. He tried to murder a CHILD who hadnt done anything wrong (yet) because he thought he was going to kill his brother and son in the future (okay, i get why he did it. He was desperate to get Mikkel back and the whole time-tarvelig thing was extremely stressfull) BUT HE COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING A LOT LESS HARMFULL TO PREVENT EVERYTHING TO HAPPEN. Despite this, i love him as a character. He is so interesting and there are times were I have to remind myself why i dont like him. He is brave and intelligent and... so fucking hot as a teen.
Hannah Kahnwald (Dark)
(Again, havent watched the whole show yet)
This girl is MESSED UP. When she was fourteen, she accused Ulrich of being a rapist, which is a very serious accusation and then blamed it on Regina who she knew was a victim of Ulrich and Katharina’s bullying. She is a home-wrecker, and when Katharina found out about Ulrich cheating on her with Hannah and confronted her, Hannah blamed it on Ulrich and said he pressed her and that she wanted it to end, but he refused or whatever, i dont 100% remember the conversation. But she was also a very good mother to Jonas and she was so sweet to Mikkel/Michael. She is a bitch, so much that its impossible to not like her.
Severus Snape (Harry Potter)
Saved the best one to last. The guy my whole account is about, ofc he’s on this list, and ofc this is gonna be the longest text.
This guy is a complete asshole. Always has been, always will be. He bullied Harry and Co (mostly Harry and Neville) he was a bitter and sarcastic bitch. He used to be a follower of Voldemort. Even in his youth he had a lot of flaws. We all know he became the bastard he was due to childhood trauma, mental illnesses and manipulation. I believe he had depression, grief and PTSD. At least in his 20’s he was suicidal, and I believe it remained like that til the day he died, because he had no one to help him or give him support. He turned to the dark side in an attemt to make his life better (as many members of gangs do) but he only stayed like that for two years, which is extremely impressive if you know what kind of person Voldemort is. As a 21 year old, Snape was a very different person from what he was as a 38 year old. If he was the way he was as a 38 yr old when Lily, James and Harry was in danger. First of all, he wouldnt start to try to save Lily by asking Voldemort, he would have went straight to Dumbledore, probably with his own brilliant plan on how to save them. Second, he wouldnt hesitate for a second to save James and Harry to. In canon, he needed to have a personal reason to save them, which was Lily’s feelings I believe. As a 38 yr old, he risked his life to save people he hated (Lupin) This is a great character developement. He went from being a selfish bitch, to become a selfless asshole. He was that kind of person who did anything in his power to protect someone, even if that person had nothing to do with winning the war and had nothing to gain himself.

Why are you so nice to me? (Hogwarts Mystery Imagine - Reader x Merula Snyde)
Masterlist  (To view my Masterlist, visit my Tumblr page)
Request:  If it's ok I have a request for a fanfic of reader x Merula where the reader helps Merula with summoning her broom? (since she keeps hitting her face after all)
A/N: I hope this is what you were looking for ^^ I tried to make this imagine more gender neutral, so the reader and Rowan are referred as ‘they’.
Words: 2138
Pairing: Reader x Merula Snyde
_________________________________________________
Merula was getting frustrated during Flying class. Sometimes she just wasn’t able to summon her broom well. She often glanced at your direction, but you seemed to be doing a lot better than she was doing. She hated it. She had her own broom, yet you could do it a lot better. You didn’t have your own broom for Merlin’s sake! When her broom hit her in the face again she scowled a bit. She began glaring when you looked at her. “Don’t you have anything better to do, Y/L/N?” She muttered. You rolled your eyes and began summoning your broom again. Merula cursed under her breath when she saw you managed to summon your broom. This was only your first year and you seemed to be doing well. Still, she wouldn’t let you become the better one without a fight. She would still try to sabotage you during potions, hoping Snape would let you fail. No, she couldn’t let you become the best witch at Hogwarts. She was the best witch. You were just Jacob’s younger sibling. You were just as mad as your brother, she was sure of that. There was no way she would let a lunatic become the best.
Merula frowned when she still couldn’t summon her broom. You began walking over to her and tilted your head. “Do you need some help?” You asked. She shot you another glare, feeling annoyed. “I don’t want your help.” She muttered. “Are you sure? It looks like you are struggling.” You said softly. “Go away, Y/L/N, before I will hex you.” She told you. “Y/N, come on. Merula doesn’t want your help.” Rowan said. You sighed and then you walked over to Rowan. Rowan just shook their head, wondering why you would try to help Merula. “You know, I could probably help her if she wasn’t so bloody stubborn.” You muttered softly, hoping she wouldn’t hear it. Rowan titled their head. “But why do you want to help her? She hates us.” They said. “I know, but perhaps she wouldn’t be so angry with us anymore if I help her.” You said. “You are way too optimistic. Merula doesn’t seem to like much people here. She scares most of the other first years.” Rowan told you. “I know, but I’m sure Merula could be nice as well if she just opens up a little.” You said with a grin.
Merula overheard you talking with Rowan and huffed. Did you honestly think she would become less angry with you if you help her out? You must be kidding! You must be really mad to be so naïve about such things! There was no way she would stop hating you. She would just mess a little with you, thinking it would be fun to prove you wrong. “So, you want to help me, Y/L/N? Do you honestly think you could teach me how to summon my broom?” She asked you when she approached you. Rowan began glaring at Merula. “Oh, please Khanna. I have seen scarier looks than that. Besides, this is something between Y/L/N and me, so shoo!” She said. Rowan shook their head and began walking over to Penny. You watched Rowan leave before you looked at Merula again. “You actually want my help? You just said you didn’t want it.” You said, raising an eyebrow. “Well, since you think you are a genius, I thought it would be interesting to see how you could teach me how to summon this stupid broom.” She said with a smirk.
You gave her a smile. “Well, let me help you then.” You said and then you stood beside her. “Just watch what I do.” You said when she showed her what you did to summon your broom. She watched you. Why did you seem to be so sincere when you tried to teach her? You actually were being nice to her, which was strange. She had been so mean to you, how could you act so nice to her? Did you honestly believe she could be nice if she opens up? You were definitely a strange one, that was for sure. You didn’t fear her like some other students, but you didn’t act that mean to her. You often just defended others. Maybe saying she could be nice as well meant you were trying to defend her as well. No! That is just stupid! You weren’t trying to defend her! You were probably just trying to make yourself look better than she was.
“You shouldn’t lean forward that much. Try to stand up a little straighter, only leaning in a little.” You said. “I’m not leaning forward that much!” Merula snapped. “You are. Here, let me help you.” You said when you began helping her stand straight. She jumped slightly when you touched her. “Why are you touching me?” She hissed. “I’m just helping with your posture.” You said and then you let her go. “There. This should be perfect.” You said with a smile. “Yeah, right.” She muttered sarcastically. “Come on, give it a try, Merula.” You said. She sighed and then she looked at her broom. “Up!” She said loud enough. She blinked when the broom actually went up. It didn’t even hit her face this time. No, she was actually holding the broom with the hand she was holding out. “Good job.” You said with a smile.
She looked a little baffled. You actually helped her… You managed to help her summon a broom. She wasn’t going to tell you that though. “Well, that’s great. I’m sure I could have done that without your help as well.” She huffed. You bit your lip slightly and then you nodded. “Sure, I suppose you would have.” You said before you walked away. What? You weren’t going to get angry with her for being so ungrateful? What was wrong with you? You should be angry with her! You did your bloody best to help her and she didn’t even thank you for it! She didn’t understand you at all. You had walked back to Rowan, who was looking at Merula. They muttered something like ‘She couldn’t even say thanks to you? That’s just disrespectful’. Merula slightly looked away when she bit her lip. Did she actually feel bad about this?
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Merula was getting furious. Even after being mean for such a long time, you still helped her! You were both in your fourth year now. Even though she did terrible things to her, she sometimes caught a smile from you that was directed at her. How could someone be so nice to her even though she didn’t feel like she deserved any of those smiles? It was driving her insane. Three years have passed and she still never thanked you for anything you helped her with. Nobody understood why you were being nice to her. Not even Barnaby, who used to be friends with her. Maybe she could just ask him why you would always help her when she needed it. She wanted to understand you, because just thinking about you drove her crazy. She quickly approached Barnaby in the Slytherin Common room and stood in front of him. Barnaby was confused, wondering why Merula wanted to approach him.
“Lee, could you explain why Y/L/N always tries to help me?” Merula asked. Barnaby blinked. “Because Y/N thinks you are nice?” He said. Merula was taken aback. “Excuse me, did you honestly say Y/L/N thinks I’m nice?” She asked confused. “Eh, yeah Y/N told me that.” He said. “Why?!” She yelled. “They think you are a good person inside and you try to hide that by being mean to others.” He said with a shrug. “I don’t know everything about it, because no one knows exactly why Y/N thinks that.” He said. “I’m going to talk to them…!” She muttered when she stormed off. Barnaby watched Merula storming off and shrugged before he began looking at his book about Magical Creatures. “Another attempt to read this page…” He mumbled to himself.
Merula was basically storming through the castle, looking for you. She needed to talk to you, because you just didn’t make any sense to her. She couldn’t get you out of her head as well. She wanted answers now. She began asking people around, because she had no clue where you could be. Maybe in the corridor to look for clues in your brother’s secret room? No, you weren’t there. Only one person she talked to knew where you were going. You were going towards the Training Grounds. She sighed and shook her head. That place still reminded her of the day you began helping her out. She thought about how you helped her with her posture to summon her broom. Bloody hell, she didn’t want to think about you, but she couldn’t help it! You were on her mind constantly and you felt like hitting herself. She didn’t want to be thinking about you all day. No, she really didn’t, because she thought it was sign of her liking you.
There you were, practicing spells against some dummies. She took a deep breath before she approached you. “Y/L/N!” She said. You blinked and then you turned around. You put your want away and tilted your head. “Merula? What are you doing here?” You asked. You began looking around a bit. “You aren’t going to ask me to duel you again, are you?” You asked. “No duelling this time.” She said, shaking her head. “Oh, that’s good.” You said with a smile. “Look, we need to talk.” She said seriously. “Sure, what do you want to talk about?” You asked, unsure why she would talk to you. She didn’t seem to be the type to have chat with you out of the blue, so it must be serious. “I want to talk about you, because it is bloody annoying.” She said. You chuckled softly. “What’s so funny, Y/L/N?” She hissed. “Sorry, but you always seem to think that everything involving me is annoying.” You said honestly, still grinning a bit.
“This is exactly the behaviour I’m talking about!” Merula yelled. You blinked a bit, because you could tell she was frustrated. “You, always giving me smiles, helping me out when I need it and not even getting angry with me whenever I’m mean to you, it’s driving me crazy!” She hissed, pointing her finger at you. “You want me to get angry with you?” You asked confused. “Yes! I mean, not because I’m asking but because I’m being mean to you! Why do you have to be so bloody nice to me all the time? I don’t deserve your kindness!” She yelled. “I think you deserve it.” You said. “Why?” She asked. “Because I think people aren’t very kind to you. I thought you might become kinder if I would be nice to you. I think behind that angry face is someone really nice.” You said. She blinked. Why would you say such a thing?  “You must be mad to think that I’m a nice person!” She said. “Maybe I am mad, but I think you can be really nice if you want to.” You said.
Merula couldn’t hold herself back and basically tackled you on the ground. You blinked when she was staring at you from above. She was really pissed and couldn’t stand it. You were so nice to her, she couldn’t just ignore you. She suddenly pressed her lips against yours, roughly kissing you. You were surprised, but you began kissing her back. She slowly pulled away and looked down at you. “Bloody hell, Y/L/N… I think you have really driven me mad…” She muttered. “In a really good way though.” You said. She blinked. “You actually enjoyed it?” She asked surprised. “Yeah, I did. I mean, I already liked you, so getting a kiss from you is really nice.” You told her. She was baffled. “You like me? Romantically I mean?” She asked. You nodded. “Yeah, for a little while now. I mean, I guess I began having this crush on you during our third year.” You said. “Shut up and kiss me.” She muttered before she kissed you again.
People didn’t understand how you and Merula began dating, but you didn’t care what they thought. You were happy and she slowly seemed to open up more as well. It was definitely a win-win situation. Still, you needed to convince your friends Merula was all right and you knew it would be hard to convince them. Just because you could see something good in Merula, didn’t mean they would see it too. You would just have to be patient and hope they would understand. You definitely felt happy and you could tell she was happy too. You definitely weren’t going to let her go.
