You know when I was a kid I was taught that Uruguay was a presidentialist Republic, but the past few years learning about international politics definitely tone down that definition in my mind.
#like... appointing supreme court justices? not a presidential competence#assigned by special parliament majority between the members of the court of appeals#and if parliament fails to pick the longest standing member of the court of appeals is automatically appointed when time runs out#dissolving parliament? yes but only once per term#and exclusively in the context of a tug of war with parliament over a minister#because the president appoints the ministers but parliament has the power to sack them#so basically the possibility is there to stop a hostile parliament from turning the executive into a ministerial revolving door#and so on and so forth#when the current government had its huge dispositions package they HAD to pass it as a parliament law#there are things the president can do by decree but they are definitely not as many or as deep as I see elsewhere#so what isn't a presidentialist republic pray tell
