IDK character design rant because this is how my brain works now
There are definitely character designs in Genshin that are weirder if they AREN’T related. Like, let’s take Baizhu and Pantalone (I still can’t believe they named a character fucking ‘PANT’, singular PANT) for example. They have similar speech patterns, mannerisms (from what little we have seen), hair, and complexion (not a foolproof thing in Genshin since most characters have similar skin-tones, but eh). Oh, and the SAME FUCKING FACE. IT’S UNCANNY THEY ARE FUCKING IDENTICAL. That would make sense if they were related and if they aren’t...well that would just be shitty character design. You can’t make two characters have the SAME FACE and not have them be related, especially when Genshin is great at designing characters who look distinct from one another + indicating when characters ARE biologically related (look at Childe and Teucer + Ayaka and Ayato + Jean and Barbara).
The same goes for Pierro and Kaeya. I don’t think they are father and son, but the similarities in their designs are undeniable even outside of their shared connection to Khaenri’ah. But rather than being FUCKING IDENTICAL, Pierro and Kaeya’s designs are mirrors of each other. Pierro has white hair with a navy blue streak while Kaeya has the inverse, they both have a singular diamond-shaped earring on opposite sides, Pierro’s primary color in his outfit is white with blue and gold accents vs Kaeya’s is blue with white and gold accents, they both have a fur layer to their outfit (Pierro’s is the blue collar on his harbinger coat vs Kaeya’s is some weird white shawl thing) and ofc the eyepatch (though that could also be a general Khaenri’an thing). Do I think they are father and son? No. But I absolutely get why people think that based on the design alone. Personally I think they are probably uncle and nephew or grandfather and grandson, but regardless this is another case of character design choices being weirder if they AREN’T related.
TLDR; If your characters look extremely similar to each other, that should probably be for a reason. I demonstrate this with characters from A Winter Night’s Lazzo because I still have fatui on the brain and they’re also really good examples.
