MEETING A NEWCOMER

Not really sure what to write for Hajun, so I'm sorry if it's not up to standard! ♡ Word count: 1,895 ♡ Synopsis: You, a newcomer, was introduced into a city of hip hop. You didn't quite understand it, but you were eager to learn from the people around you.

You have moved here for university, not knowing what this city was actually known for. You just assumed it was any other ordinary city...

Allen, who was one of your fellow classmates at university was an odd one. He didn't look friendly so you didn't try socialising with him at first, but when you saw how he acted towards his friends, you decided to at least try.

You found out that he was just awkward. He greeted you in return when you introduced yourself, but his eyes started sparkling when you mentioned that you were new to the area. He asked whether you're into hip hop, but if you weren't, he had some recommendations for you to listen to.

"Is hip hop that big here?" you asked him curiously.

"Yeah!" he exclaimed. "There used to be this place called Club Paradox where..."

You listened to him ramble on and on about hip hop and these legends called 'Buraikan' who founded these so-called 'Phantom Lives.'

It was all a little confusing, but it had you intrigued. Because of this, the two of you had exchanged contact info so Allen would be able to send you his recommendations. When you were finished listening to them, you would text him your thoughts. Gradually, you started having a taste for hip hop that in your free time, you'd visit record shops looking for songs that you haven't heard of yet!

Allen was always so appreciative of how willing you were to indulge in his interests — in his life. He wanted to show you more about the city and about hip hop, but he also just wanted to spend more time with you.

"I also produce and write my own songs!" Allen said one day, hoping that would impress you. "Would you like to listen to them?"

"Seriously? That's so cool. Of course, I'd like to listen!"

"Alright, just meet me at the club! I'm performing there as BAE with Anne and Hajun."

"C-Club?"

"Oh, haven't you been to a club before? Then I'll accompany you before our performance starts. It'll be fun!"

Why not? you thought.

Allen picked you up before his performance and showed you around the club. It was an interesting yet fun experience, but what you found kind of weird was how he kept holding your hand throughout it all. You didn't think too much of it though. He was probably doing that in consideration of you, so you wouldn't get lost in the crowd.

"So yeah, that's pretty much the gist of it!" he said. "Will you be okay here? We're starting in ten minutes."

"Yes, I'll be fine," you replied. "I can't wait to see you perform!"

"Alright, see you later, (Y/N)!"

Watching him perform live was amazing. You finally understood why people here liked watching 'Phantom Lives.' They were incredible! You were so drawn into Allen's performance that you couldn't see anything else but him.

"Haha, how was it?" he asked you, panting.

"It was so cool!" you chirped. "And that was the song you wrote too? It was great!"

"Hahaha, thanks, (Y/N)!"

So whatever Allen did with hip hop, you were there too. You became closer to him than before that he no longer was a classmate to you, but someone even more special.

Just like everyone else, you were drawn to Hajun's prince-like charms, but you never dared to speak to him. He was definitely on another level than you, and you didn't want to disturb him with your plain, ordinary presence.

However, fate brought you together when Hajun spoke to you first. He picked up clues that you were new around here and wanted to help you familiarise yourself.

Confused but thankful, you accepted his offer. He was like a tour guide, bringing you in his limo around the city. It was kind of awkward at first, but he eased you into it when he would ask you where you came from and why you decided to move. He was friendly, but you could taste the way he teased you too.

After bringing you to so many places, Hajun had asked you if you knew about hip hop or anything to do with phantom lives. When you denied it, he merely chuckled and said that you should watch him perform. He didn't go further than that, so you had to find out yourself what he meant by it.

BAE was his hip hop group where they performed phantom lives at clubs. You entered by yourself, waiting for the show to begin. Hajun was up there on stage accompanied by Anne and Allen. Their performance was spectacular. The way Hajun rapped was something you didn't expect coming from him, but at the same time, it made perfect sense.

"So you made it," he teased. "Did you enjoy the show?"

"Y-Yes, it was good!" you exclaimed. "Those were the illusions you talked about? They were pretty! How were you able to do that?"

"With my phantometal, of course," he replied, showing you the feather ring on his finger. He let you touch it due to curiosity. "Isn't it cool~?"

"It is!" you giggled. "Can I watch you perform again next time?"

"Haha, sure."

Not only did Hajun help you with familiarising yourself with the city, but with university work too. You should be grateful though because he wasn't doing this for just anyone. However, he was also questioning his actions when he thought about it.

He supposed that he was helping you out so much because he was also in a similar position when he arrived in Japan. He just wanted to make your experience here easy for you.

Plus hanging out with someone cute like you was actually fun. He loved answering whatever questions you threw at him especially those relating to hip hop. He always looked forward to your daily greeting in person and text.

Anne had caught an interest to you almost immediately. Of course, it was because you were cute, but it was also because your outfits were embarrassingly plain. They wondered if you'd allow them to dress you up. So one day in class, they introduced themselves.

Once Anne took in the info that you were new here, they were even more excited to become your friend. They wanted to show you everything! Entertainment, fashion, music, everything you were interested in!

And that's how you were introduced to hip hop too.

Taking in the knowledge of the city from Anne was like homework. They dumped everything on you so quickly that it was hard to grasp, but as they pulled you around the city, it was always so exhilarating.

"Oh, I'm also a part of BAE," they said. "It's the hip hop unit I'm in with Allen and Hajun. We usually perform at clubs, but we're going to be competing in Paradox Live next!"

"P-Paradox Live?" you queried. You knew of phantom lives since Anne mentioned those before, but this was different.

"Yep, it's gonna be huge! We're going up against other hip hop units to win ten billion! You'll come support us, right?"

Of course you were.

But standing in front of Club Paradox was intimidating. Everyone around you looked excited out of their minds, but you were the opposite.

"(Y/N), over here!" called out Anne. As you turned, they linked your arm with theirs and led you inside with Allen and Hajun. "I'm sorry, I'm going to have to leave you here," they continued. "But watch us closely, okay?"

Watching Anne perform that night was thrilling. Even when the rest of the units performed their songs, Anne's performance was something you couldn't shake off. The illusions that they described to you through words could not compare to the real thing.

After that, you would always watch Anne in person whenever they were performing with BAE in Paradox Live; cheering them on and voting for them. Anne would always look for you in the crowd too, happy that you appeared in their life.

Unlike BAE, you didn't meet Kanata at university. You bumped into him on the streets to university. You were lost and that's how you ended up at the slums. He thought you were an idiot, but he helped you out anyway.

You explained that you were new to the city, so you still didn't know your way around. Kanata was disinterested, but when you asked him why hip hop was so prevalent around here, his ears perked up.

He explained everything, but he also mentioned how there's 'real hip hop' and those who desire to make hip hop but fail. You were curious about what he meant by this, so you pressed him further into showing you what 'real hip hop' was.

He was about to refuse. He didn't really want to get close to you to begin with, but seeing that sparkle in your eye made him think otherwise. It also didn't help that you were kind of cute.

"Fine," he breathed. "When do you finish uni? I could show you today."

And so he did. After dropping you off at university, he picked you up straight after you were finished. It was evening by then, so the streets you walked on were crowded with people waiting for a team called 'Cozmez' to perform.

He grabbed your wrist and dragged you into some shady underground business, situating you in a corner where he was sure nobody could disturb you.

"Just stay here," he said. "You'll be okay."

"W-Wait, where are you going?"

"I'm performing."

Before you could say anything else, he grinned. "You'll see what real hip hop is, (Y/N)."

And he was gone. You noticed that he was with someone else too, someone that looked oddly similar to him that you just knew he was his brother. When they were on stage, the crowd cheered louder than before.

That's when Kanata started rapping. You watched him intently, your eyes following his every movement, his every word. The music was loud, but it was exciting.

"So this is a 'phantom live'..." you murmured to yourself as you watched the illusions the twins were creating. "It's beautiful..."

You didn't expect Kanata to come back to you right after performing, but he did, asking you what you thought of it. You caught the slight bit of excitement in his question which also surprised you because even if you had just met him today, you already had his character noted down in the back of your mind. He was rude and aggressive, but he was also kind in a way.

You smiled. "It was awesome! I can't believe this is what I was missing out on!" you replied. "You were amazing, Kanata!"

His cheeks heated up, but you couldn't tell as it was dim. "Thanks," he said casually.

"Eh~ who's this?" asked his twin. "Kanata, I didn't think you were that type of person–"

"I-It's nothing like that!"

Nayuta introduced himself because if his brother was willing enough to bring a random girl to a place like this, he was sure that Kanata was a little interested in you.

"Be good to my brother, okay?" he whispered into your ear teasingly.

From then on, you became close to the Yatonokami twins, but you were even closer to Kanata, the boy who helped you on your first day. He became a lot more patient with you as he introduced you to even more places around the city, familiarising yourself with hip hop and the story behind it. It was always so fun learning more things when it was with Kanata.

And perhaps, Kanata was a little thankful that you got lost in the slums that day too.

Similarly, if your muse can also control others, let's discuss it! Let's see what they can do to Mantis! It's fun to explore their powers, but no actual godmodding.

06. Shipping is fun and we can discuss it but please: no forcing ships and no saying our characters are dating/married without telling me. On a similar note, no saying our characters have a child without discussing it prior. I consider it a form of godmodding, and chances are I'll stop writing with you. Unless I reblog memes about sending in hypothetical kids, don't do that. I'm not saying you cannot do that with your other rp partners if they're okay with that, but don't do so with me.

07. I am me and Mantis is Mantis. Please separate the two, because I separate the muns from their muses. I want to write and create with you, not help you fulfill some sort of fantasy. I understand we can all use our own emotions and life experiences to put ourselves in a specific headspace to write, but if you're living vicariously through your muse, I'm not the partner for you. Nothing against that, I have a friend who writes self-insert, reader-insert stories and one-shots and my friend is an amazing writer. Don't be discouraged, you'll find the right partner!

08. I don't care whether you use icons or not or whether you occasionally commit typos. I do ask you try to use punctuation at least a little because if not, I will read entire sentences without any sort of pause, with no inflection or sense of pacing whatsoever. I really value creativity and characterization and I myself will, probably, have a typo every once in a while, it's all good, just try to keep a bare minimum of grammar.

09. I will not pressure you to reply to threads so please don't pressure me. If I think you actually forgot to reply I might gently remind you and you can do the same with me. This is supposed to be a fun hobby, let's remember that, yeah? I can be forgetful at times. If we're writing together please don't assume I do this because I don't want to write with you. If I'm writing with you it's because I want to and you do as well.

10. No OOC drama. Please. I am here to write and have a good time. In order to interact with me, be constructive when OOC, not destructive. I know we're all human, I understand we all have bad days, it's all good, but don't be a dick. Be respectful, to me and to anyone else I may be writing with. If we're not mutuals and I answer one of your asks, though, don't expect it to become its own thread. I want to believe no one is being direspectful on purpose when it comes to this, but I wouldn't want you to take the time to write that, since I probably won't reply. Never anything personal, I wish I had time to write with everyone, but you know, real life and all that.

I don't write sexually charged material, it's just a preference of mine since I use writing as a tool of storytelling. If I tell you a story, personally I'm not gonna describe every little thrust/moan/gasp. Though if our muses have chemistry and I'm comfortable with you as a mun I'll absolutely be open to writing something a little spicy, but mostly fade to black/pillow talk/morning after stuff. It will be tagged ns;fw. Unprompted smutty starters/asks will get you blocked. If you write that with your other rp partners I don't mind though so don't worry about that.

I DO, as a matter of fact! Even though I do appreciate everyone that gives me a chance to write with them, I have some that are my preferred ones already.

@foghidden is my main exactly because of that. I love her and her muses a lot and how amazing she is at writing and developing characters. Not to mention how she masterfully makes edits and moodboards. Overall, she's very dedicated and we're usually on the same wavelength, so it makes things so easy. Her ideas are top notch and she's so sweet as a person, I care a lot for her! She's my bestie around here and first priority!

And I am biased but I ADORE our Laura/Travis threads as well as the Kaylee ones. And with Emma, I am in love with Sam and Emma interacting as well as Jess. HONESTLY? I say this but I also ADORE the threads with Wednesday, and if I keep going down that rabbit hole, I can just say that I adore ALL OF OUR THREADS, because it's true.

@saecrifical was one of the first people to interact with me and I always appreciate that a lot. They also write really beautifully and I'm always looking forward to all the characters they bring to the table!

My biased threads would be mainly the Hannah/Emma ones, but oh my gosh do I love all your other muses too aaaaah, we need to write more for sure!

@quarryhag is and will always be my preferred Dylan! Just top 10/10 Dylan content, made me love him even more and cry because he doesn't have enough interactions with Emma (or Travis). We need that friendship, but thank goodness we're writing them out! They're also very creative and great to talk to, so bonus points!

The one thread where Emma and Dylan are going to the radio station together is my favorite, I think. And also any one with Dylan interacting with Travis because gosh it's so interesting to see their dynamic.

the last time I did this it was 2018 which sounds absolutely wild. I don’t have a specific occasion for this I'm just feeling particularly thankful rn. y’all stuck with me for all of 2019 even though I was missing in action for the better part of it. I can’t believe 2019 is over it sounds fake but it’s almost march 2020 now so I better get used to it.

as far as characters/content creators other than techno, i'm really fond of dream, niki, ponk, punz, badboyhalo, antfrost, phil, tommy, tina, foolish! i also really like mr. goodtimeswithscar!

i don't dislike any character though i'm occasionally critical of c!sam and c!quackity's actions though i always hope for the best for them. i am critical of the fandom sometimes and i'm avidly against the prison/pandora's vault. it's a cool build but i'm a prison abolitionist, yes even block game ones. my real life anarchist ideals do impact my dsmp opinions but i make a point to acknowledge that the world of minecraft functions differently.

Well, I don't really know why I'm writing this to you because you'll think "what do I care" but I don't really know who to tell and well, I hope you can help me....

I've been thinking for a long time that I would like to publish content here about EngSpa and NedPort but I don't really know where to start.

First of all, I don't have a following here because so far I've preferred to just look at other people's content, but I really feel like I'd like to post my thoughts and ideas about them here, but I feel like it wouldn't reach other people and so I'm not sure if it's worth it.

Also, English is not my native language, it's Spanish, so I feel like possible typos would be a good reason to back out. Whenever I ask a question or write a post here, I run it through the proofreader about five times just in case (this one too :)) It's not that I don't know English, it's just that I don't have as many resources as other people to ask questions and write accurate texts.

I know I have things to offer but I also know I'm inexperienced at this. I've always liked writing, it helps me think, focus and reflect how I feel. Whenever I've had the opportunity to enter writing competitions I've always done so, and I've never really done too badly. I was even a finalist in a national tournament, but facing other people's opinions makes me feel insecure. There's a lot of talent on this platform, I've been discovering it as I read other works and fanfics, but I know, if I upload any kind of content, I'll feel insecure about it. It always happens to me and I don't know how to get the "conscience" to say, it's ok, it's ok, you're not going to be criticized for everything you do or don't do. I don't know if you understand me or if you've ever felt like that.

Anyway, because of all these things, I feel insecure about publishing stories or scenarios that I imagine possible on this ships, but I would really, really, really like to...

dearest anon, you are, like all other anons that have wandered into my inbox, welcome to a cookie 🍪 but i would actually like to give you a hug, more than anything - a good ol' fashioned bear hug, and a great big chunk o' words to go with it that i hope you'll find useful in some way:

firstly, hi, welcome, yes, any EngSpa/NedPort fan is always welcome at my door and certainly within our cosy corner of the fandom. whether you create or consume, i'm sure we're always happy just to have more people visit us and share their thoughts on both pairings. i, for one, would love to hear any ideas you have, written or not!

as for starting out, i... don't know how much it helps if i just say 'go for it!' but... go for it! i can at least say that i do understand how you feel about actually spreading word of your works, of course. my own following here is pretty small (not that i've been on tumblr for that long!) but i have some truly amazing, quality, lovely people amongst my mutuals that i adore engaging with, seeing their work, sharing ideas with, all that sort of stuff. i trust them to reblog my work if they enjoy it, and i know that without that magical button (and usually someone screaming in the tags as a sort of comment for me <3) some of my works would not get so much consideration, if any.

even nowadays i long for my AO3 inbox to show a new comment has appeared - often to be left disappointed when i wake and before i go to bed. as disheartening as it can be, however, there are still a handful of people here who i know appreciate what i do, and who encourage me to continue through a simple reblog and tag-commentary. and that's what matters most: that i've gained a modest but fierce support base. and if you ever wanted to publish a work and share it with us, i don't doubt that you would soon find that support base, too. sometimes all it takes is one person to say, i really like what you've got going on here, to help you find the strength and will to make your story available to everyone.

i'll be totally honest with you anon: that isnecurity doesn't always go away easily. i still feel that wave of dread whenever i have a new work to publish, because i fear what people will think. even publishing a chapter in an established work makes me anxious because, well, what if it's not good enough? or doesn't meet people's expectations? i think the issue is, we rely so heavily as creators on people's opinions and feedback to fuel our motivation, and if it doesn't apppear or simply isn't positive, it can hamper our creativity. i've had an awful comment that's made me cry before. i've had several more that have made me cry tears of joy because someone really enjoyed something i wrote and cared enough to tell me. it's a bumpy road, really... but i've generally found that people who don't care for what i write just turn away and leave me alone - and good! it saves us both some time and effort! so i try to focus on the positive. i still don't always receive as much reception or feedback as i'd like on AO3, but... i try not to let it wear me down (there'd be nothing left of me by now, otherwise).

what i would say is, as i say to myself, try not to put too much pressure on yourself if you do want to publish a work, be it short or long, on here or elsewhere. i have NedPort works that i look at in absolute despair sometimes, because they have hardly any reads compared to my EngSpa works - but then i think, forty people still read this, so i must be doing something right. otherwise no one would read it, or leave kudos, or reblog, or leave a comment. that's what i try to focus on. even if only one person leaves a kudos/like and nothing more - well, that's one person i've made happy. and it can only get better from here, right?

writing is a constant learn-and-grow process. i've only been at this for three years on AO3 and i've done a lot of developing in that time. i can even look back on a work from a few months ago and see a change in how i write, what i write, and so on. in those 3 years, i've somehow built bridges of communication with creators that 2018 helia would have never thought she'd ever talk to. yet here i am. does negativity still get to me? yes. do i still feel an overwhelming nervousness when i publish a work or share an au idea on tumblr? yes. do i still think i could be doing so much better as a writer/contributor to this cosy corner of the fandom? abso-freaking-lutely! but i'm trying to take it in my stride and to learn that, it's okay to feel that way sometimes.

one day, of course, i hope i won't feel those things. day by day, my support base is slowly helping me to achieve that.

you may not have a following here, anon, but there's an invisible 'yet' on the end of that sentence. we all start from zero. we all have to work and build ourselves up first - give ourselves the drive - to then meet others who like what you do, agree with what you think, or who simply are open-minded to such things. it's not always easy, and it's not always fast. but it's certainly not impossible.

this probably turned out much longer than either of us were expecting, i'll admit. but like i said, it's a topic i can empathise with greatly, and i'd like to at least commend you for considering being an active creator - it's a big step, but i know that you can take it if you want to.

and hey, look, don't you dare start worrying about your English, ya hear me? 1) as a languages student, i will ALWAYS be impressed and appreciative of someone who writes in a language that isn't their mother tongue, because as much as i'd love to write something in Spanish, i know how freaking hard that'd end up being even with all the years' worth of study i've had lmao. honestly, i'd read fanfic in whatever language i can. i've used online translators to help access more content many times, and it's often rewarding! so, please don't sweat it if you choose to write in English. it's a bastard of a language, and proofreader or no, you had me fooled. oh, and 2) i know many native English people who can't speak the language either so i think you're saf- *slapped*

...you get the point. i make typos. i use the language wrong, sometimes. no one is perfect, no one is infallible. 'it is human to err' and 100000000 respect points to you for being braver than i to write in a second language (i'll try it one day i'm sure... pff..)

damn, never thought we'd get here, did we?

in all honesty, it's been a pretty shit year. march 'til now has felt like the same month on repeat with tiny tweaks to make it all so much worse. but i'm not here to complain about the worst parts of this year, i'm here to celebrate the best ones.

this was the year that i finally started writing, that i was finally spurred to open a google doc and just type away until a tiny work of fiction stared back at me. my first one was 1k words, a rant to get all of my emotions off of my chest with an idol as my muse. it felt...great, though it also felt a bit odd writing after being an avid reader for years. i always did prefer essays to creative writing, but this year definitely changed that perspective.

i wrote that first blurb along with another fic in late july, and in early august, i asked my friends if i should post them. om august 3rd, i changed this blog from a fic rec to a fic writing blog just like that. i regret none of it.

it's been nearly five months since i revamped this blog and i couldn't be more grateful for the support i have gotten from all of you, whether it be a kind comment, a like, a reblog, all of it. i never thought anyone would like my content, but i've been proven severely wrong by this community. from my irls that are on here, to my lovely mutuals and followers, to those i've talked to a lil bit on this hellsite, to the writers whose fics i absolutely adore, to those who have left a like or a comment on one of my fics, i want to say thank you from the very bottom of my heart ♡
