it’s really ridiculous to me that pigeons aren’t more popular as pets cuz like… they are literally the oldest domesticated bird and one of the oldest domesticated animals in general. they are quiet, highly intelligent but not destructive, come in a massive variety of gorgeous colors, breeds, and sizes, and can be very happy living in a fairly small area (ie, a bedroom) so long as they get some daily exercise. they’re granivores and you can feed them sunflower seeds… they are soft and sweet and curious and playful and cute and they are not essentially a human child a la large parrots. i love them so much

#they do poop a lot but that’s true of literally all birds and they can wear diapers for a couple hours. they’re otherwise very clean #they like to take baths and preen themselves very often #and emphasis on the quiet cuz i met a cockatoo recently and oh my god how does anyone live with that #and! a healthy pigeon will generally live around 15 years. sometimes 20 or more! the oldest known pigeon was 37 #sorry for yapping so much lol #my gf is on a trip so i can’t just talk her ear off all day as i usually do #pigeons
