Enzo was the only person who actually cares about you but he got distant from you cause he was getting closer to Bonnie and didn't see the signs that you were really bad. He tries to get you back but you won't listen to him and he's also why you shut it off too cause you lost Enzo too even though he is still around.

You can’t believe that you hadn’t seen them before they died, they kept asking you too but you kept telling them that you were busy, you don’t even know what had you so busy. No that’s a lie you knew what it was, it was the friends that claimed that would do the same for you but they weren’t even at the funeral, the ones that you died for yourself, the ones that you continued to fight for even when you should have gone home and now as you stood over the graves of your parents with none of them there, you wondered if it was even worth continuing but it’s much harder to stop when you were immortal.

So you did something else, something that was supposed to make you feel better but all it did was make you feel empty. The only difference was that you couldn’t find it in you to care, with your emotions turned off you couldn’t care what happened around you. That was how you found yourself in a back alley bar everyone around you was dead and you had just finished feeding “(Y/N) what are you doing?” You recognised the voice immediately. “Enzo, I didn’t know that you’d be around here.” You smiled as you gestured around the room. “You are hungry, take your pick. What’s mine is yours.” You winked as you leaned back in your chair “or maybe you want something else, I’ve never really been a big consumer of alcohol so you can definitely have whatever is behind the bar.” “(Y/N) what happened?” He asked. “They’re dead.” You answered “while I was out helping all of you, they died, you know the last time I saw them was before I was a vampire and that was almost 3 years ago now.” “(Y/N)-” “I know that 3 years aren’t that many to you given the fact that you’ve lived so long and before I know it 3 years will be nothing to me either right?” You asked. “(Y/N) I know that you have lost everything but-” “You know the worst part wasn’t that I lost them, it was that the people I still had weren’t there, when I had been there for every one of them, when Jeremy died I sat with Elena, when Caroline was turned I tried to help her where I could, when Bonnie found out about her magic I was there too but the only reason that I’m here to grieve today was because you… A stranger at the time thought I was worth more alive than dead.” You said and he looked down at his hands. “Do you wish that I had let you die that day?” He asked. “You know even after everything, I’m not sure that I do but I’d have to flip that switch to know for sure right?” You asked. “Do you think they would still be alive if I was dead?” “I don’t know, do you believe that it was our enemies that killed them?” He asked. “There was hardly anything left of them, it couldn’t have been anything else.” You answered. “You saw them?” He asked. “They needed someone to identify what was left of them.” You answered “they left their faces so I would know that they were gone.” “So tell me what are you doing here?” He asked. “What do you mean?” You asked. “Well why aren’t we looking for the people who killed your parents, you know I would move heaven and earth for you.” He said. “I didn’t know that.” You answered through gritted teeth “when I stood alone, crying, you know they had no family to see them off, I was their only child and everyone else had died before them, I was there alone.” “I never meant for you to be alone.” He said “I didn’t know.” “You didn’t know because you pulled away long before they died, so leave me be, I’m not the reason that we play hero.” You were gone before he could say anything else but he had failed you, everyone had, he couldn't make them see but he could surely fix what he had done if he tried.

HI, which are your top 10 scenes of tvd season 6?

I love a lot of their Delena scenes lol

The cupcake scene. Their kiss combined with this scene are written on the opposite side of 3x10 and 3x11, so you might as well just imagine this scene at the end of 3x11. Here, Elena basically gives Damon permission to kiss her any time he wants. This scene is perfect for "spontaneous" Damon.

The moment Elena basically told Damon it should've been him in 3x22. They're written alongside Tyler and Liv in this episode. The only difference is that Damon had time to work through the pain of her choice. Tyler's wound is still fresh. This is my favorite Delena kiss because of the scene in its entirety. They're written around the quote, "If you love someone, let them go. If they come back, they're yours." Elena always finds her way back to Damon because she follows her heart.

"The closer you are to death, the more alive you feel." This scene jumps off scenes in season 4. I love this entire episode. This scene because of Damon's response. He cares how he makes Elena feel, so when she pulls a fake-out, then says this... his smile says it all. I mean... he essentially stabbed her, she made him believe she was dying, then she put this huge smile on his face.

His choice to take the cure. Fans had to know that Stefan would be making a point with his visions. Damon was planning a vampire life with Katherine. While in transition, he watched them drag her into the church and set it on fire. Believing she was dead, he had no intention of completing his transition. He was planning to die. Here, he basically tells Elena that even if she dies, the rest of his miserable existence will be worth the time he did get to spend with her. The fact that he speaks to the rest of his miserable existence means he plans on living the rest of his human life even if she dies, that's how much he loves her. His "smallest chance" comment is a reference to Emily's talisman. They gave Damon the best lines in the show, istg.

Liz's funeral. What Damon couldn't do for Alaric in their season 4 lantern lighting, he does for Liz here. He's expressing his loss with the group. That's growth. What I love about this scene is Damon's words to Caroline and her song... because I love it when she sings. Damon's words to Caroline are his true feelings about her, so fans should also know why Klaus loved her as he did. "You're a beautiful, strong woman, a generous friend, and a bright light in a sea of dark."

This is my favorite Defan scene. Everything Stefan needed. Damon told Bonnie it wasn't just Elena he had to get back home to. He had to get back to Stefan because he knew. Losing a brother is insanely painful, and this came two seasons after Stefan gave Elena advice on mourning Jeremy. It's through his loss of Damon that Stefan felt it... how right Damon was to say that he wasn't enough for Elena when she lost Jeremy. Caroline wasn't enough for him. He had to let her go because he couldn't deal. Anyway, I love Stefan's emotion in this scene. You can feel how much he loves Damon.

Damon and Bonnie in the prison world is written like Damon and Enzo in The Cell. Difference is, Bonnie was able to get word to Damon that she survived... with Ms. Cuddles. This hug represents what could've been for Damon and Enzo, and it came after Liz's funeral, so it was something Damon certainly needed. He said goodbye to one friend and hello to another.

"I mean, you'd think he'd at least flip a coin... heads he picks you, tails he picks..."

Coin tosses are a Salvatore thing, and Kai messed with the wrong women. Damon's girlfriend and his best friend lol... that's a death wish. Fail as he does, when Damon wants someone dead, it's just a matter of time before he gets it right.

This dance scene. Caroline is hot as hell, and I love seeing her without her humanity. She's having so much fun it's insane. I'm pretty sure season 6 is my favorite season for Caroline. I should point out the fact that Liz's death was her moment for Damon. So much so, she took his advice and flipped her switch.

Enzo pulls a Damon move. This could've been his only scene in the show and I'd still love him. Two people Enzo cared about... Damon was upsetting, Caroline topped the cake for him. Stefan doesn't know what it's like to truly be alone. Enzo does. That's why he's angry as hell in this scene. Stefan has everything that he doesn't, and he's wasting it on a fake life. This scene had me cheering.

SE Preview

The moment after Elena rubbed some of the guard's blood on her tongue, she felt different. More. She remembered how she felt only seconds ago but now those emotions were extremes; the mourning for her human life, her anger - rage - toward Rebekah, and her ... love. It was the strongest feeling of all, it was almost like it had depth and dimensions, like it was too intense, too big for any one person to contain. The truth of her decision to be with Stefan being the singular best choice she'd ever made in her life made her want to go to him immediately and love him with a dedication that would never make him doubt the magnitude of her feelings for him for even a second.  But she could hear ... was that Matt? And Damon?

"It should've been you!"

The sound of bones crushing. Gurgling. No! Elena rushed out of the barn and pounced on Damon, pushing him off Matt, her rage bringing out her fangs and the veins on her face.

"LEAVE HIM ALONE."

Damon stared up at her for a second before he pushed her off him and got up in one, smooth motion then stormed off. She followed him, knowing Stefan would find Matt and take care of him. She could trust him to do that. She could trust him with anything.

��Elena kept pace with Damon as he walked to his car.  "You were going to kill him!"

"Yep," he said. "Guy just won't die."

They stopped walking and Elena stared at him incredulously. Looking at his irritated, unapologetic expression,  it was as if something snapped into place, as if Elena was really seeing him clearly for the first time.

"It's my choice, Damon, why can't you see that?" 

"It's a little hard to keep track of all your choices lately, Elena."

He was childish. Always so childish. "You asked me to choose so I did," she said firmly. "And I made the right choice."

Damon turned his head away, as if stricken but Elena continued. "Stefan wanted to save me first and I know what's happening is eating him alive. I can see it. But right now," she pointed toward the barn, "he's feeding Matt his blood, I can hear it. I can hear him tell him to live his life. Even though he’s frustrated, he’s telling Matt not to give up, to get up everyday and live, because he respects me, he respects life."

"No, I respect life," he spat. "I would've saved you in a heartbeat and you would've gotten to grow up and have the life that you wanted; the life that you deserved. And I know that I didn't use to get that but I do now and I wanted that for you, Elena, and I would have gladly have given it to you and let Matt die because I am that selfish. But you knew that already."

Elena shook her head at him, almost relieved in how pointless this all was. "I do know that. And I also know that you never got it and if you don’t get it now, you never will," she said. "I could never have had those things if Matt died. It would have never been the life I wanted without him alive. And you can’t think that far ahead to see that. Stefan can."

Damon narrowed his eyes at her.  "Was it ever really a choice?" he asked. "Between him and me?"

Elena bit her lip. "No."

"Right."

She sighed then said softly, "You don't love me, Damon."

He glared at her. "Don't try to make yourself feel better."

"That's not what I'm doing." She made a soft exasperated noise. "Look at what you were about to do to one of my oldest friends. I chose to save his life and you were about to take it, you were about to spit in the face of my choice. You..." she shrugged. "You don't consider anything I want, you don't take my feelings into account, you just do whatever you want because you need me to be alive for you."  Elena spoke calmly and simply, as if she were explaining something to a child, which only seemed to inflame Damon. "And I - I get it but ... that ..." She shook her head. "That isn't love, Damon, that's obsession. Like with Katherine."

"Screw you."

"Maybe you can't see it but I can now. Everything is so clear."

Damon rolled his eyes. "Spare me the newfound enlightenment, Elena.”

"You loved her for over a century, Damon, you carried her for over a hundred years, and then you came to town and ripped it apart for her, and she didn't care." Elena watched as the pain of the memory flitted across his face. “What did you do with all of that? Where did it all go?"

He ground his teeth together but didn’t answer, and walked away instead, leaving Elena to stand confidently in her choice.

"I wish to know everything about you, Elena," As quiet as his voice is, she feels his fervour, the demand in his tone that, without any true grace, falters her, stumbles her to a dire stop. He holds her still, pulls her in, and leaves barely an inch of distance between them, his eyes intent on hers, "That includes your mind."

His words strike her like a bolt of lightening, electrifying and terrifying and crushing all at once.

"Even I don't understand my mind, Nik. Not enough so to share it," She murmurs, her voice shaky and breathy.

"Why do you deny me so?" He whispers, his voice low and hoarse with emotion, "What holds you back?"

"What's stopping you?" Hayley exclaims, suddenly appearing on the staircase, "Kill him. Go ahead. Do it. I mean, it's not like he doesn't deserve to die.

"But, then again, wasn't it Diego who led a werewolf massacre last month? And the witches cursed the wolves, while the humans stood back and let it all happen. So, when you think about it, everyone here deserves to die."

Klaus blocks her from Damon's vision by taking a powerful step forward and bringing himself to the centre of the conflict, his eyes slowly glancing amongst every soul, dead or alive, in the room with a sharp and dangerous stare, a smirk that matches curling on his lips.

Screw it, heres a messy compliation of my Echomattra/Clonemesis headcanons I have come with (Along with a Human!Echo headcanon)

-If Echo actually had a favorite animal it would be a swan. Both are mainly white, can fly, associated with ballet, generally considered graceful/elegant. Ramattra calls her “Hansa” (Nepali for swan) as a nickname

-I love the idea of Echo being flirty toward Ramattra, like sneaking in a cheeky nickname in a conversation that she thinks he won’t notice, and then making him flustered when he does (“Hey there handsome”)

-Ramattra is super touch starved but also very wary of physical affection. Almost all of the physical contact he dealt with was one of pain, so its very unfamilar to him. Once he does get used it, he can’t get enough of it however. They find themselves cuddling each other a lot, hugging as reassurance etc.

-Echo’s favorite thing is letting Ramattra rest his head on her lap, letting his hair loose. She likes to run her fingers through them (The only person allowed to do it currently.) She also puts her hand on the side of his faceplate as she likes watching his face be bathed from the blue light from her fingertips.

-After Ramattra comes back from a mission, the best thing is for him to wrap his hands around Echo’s waist from behind and lean his faceplate into her cheek. In those moments, everything feels okay.

-Echo loves the straight to DVD Barbie movies and you cant change my mind. (Totally not because I was obsessed with them when I was little hehe) She used to watch them with Mina when she was alive. Her favorite is Barbie Fairytopia and after watching them, she also wanted pretty fairy wings like Elena so Liao made her Butterfly skin for her <<3 Now she watches them with Ramattra who is a little confused by whats happening in them all the time but watches them for the sake of Echo enjoying herself

-I like the idea of human!Echo has her wearing her hair in a messy bun/pony similar to Liao as a way way of honoring her mother. Also human!Echo would absolutely have hip rolls and you cant change my mind

Lets talk about Hope Mikaelson

Hope Andrea Mikealson. The miracle child. The one and only Tribrid. Lets just say that I love Hope Mikealson a lot. She is one of my favorite characters.

For all you guys who don't know who Hope Mikaelson is. Here's a quick summary of her. Hope is a character form the TVDU. She was born on May 2, 2012. To werewolf Haley Marshall and original hybrid Klaus Mikaelson or

(I know you can hear this photo if you have watched the show as many times as I have. ) Hope family is basically the whole reason for the TVD. Her grandmother Esther Mikaelson. Created vampires. Doing a spell to turn her children into the Original vampires.

Her father is also the earths first hybrid. (werewolf and vampries) His wolf side is why Hope is in alive. The miracle baby. Hopes mom. Haley Marshall passed on her werewolf side to her daughter. Both being a part of the crescent wolf pack. The bloodline of the first ever werewolf.

So her family being a long line of witches, dad vampire side and mothers werewolf side. Made Hope a tribrid. The only one of her kind. Which is why she had people after her. Even before her brith.

She had a hard begging. Hope was ripped from her mothers arms at her brith and almost killed. This was just the begging of her trauma.

But now that you know a little about Hope. Let me talk about why I love her

Hope is so Selfless

Hope said it herself "My name is Hope Mikaelson. I come from a long line of villains."

Her father is known as 'the great evil' He was feared and had so much darkness inside of him. Klaus put his siblings to sleep by putting daggers in them. Making them miss years or not even decades. Klaus also gave Elena Gilbert a lot a trauma, killing her aunt is one of them.

Hope could have inherited this angry. But she didn't. Hope put herself on the line constantly. Even becoming a full Tribrid to save the world from Malivore.

Hope would do anything and everything to save the people she loves. Sure she does make mistakes. Like hope turning Lizzie Salesman into a vampire is one. But she had her humanity off and regretted it.

Overall Hope is always the hero.

What Hope did for her family

"this was our hope our family's hope" This was said by Elijah Mikaelson. He told this to Klaus after he thought they lost hope, that later became name. She was her families Hope.

The Mikaelson's protected Hope with everything. It is pretty clear they loved her. All of them.

Rebekah took Hope away from danger when it was too dangerous for her to stay in New Orleans. Raised her or seven months. Later on Rebekah took on part of the Hallows soul to protect Hope. Hope made her feel human.

Hope to Elijah was everything. He once said "I would violate everything sacred under the sun in the name of recusing my niece." Elijah even gave Hope her name. Thinking it was his job to keep her safe. He did that even dying for her.

Kol and Hopes relationship is rarely seen in the shows. But I can tell Kol is like the fun uncle. Having taking a piece of the Hallows soul in him to save Hope. He seemed to me to be the only one to keep in contact with Hope, understanding her upset of not having her family together.

Freya is like Hopes second mother. Being there for almost Hopes entire life. Freya taught Hope spells and magic. Hope to Freya is like her daughter. Hope trusted her enough to let Freya stop her heart.

Marcel might not be a Mikaelson by blood. But he is a Mikaelson. Hope and him are brother and sister. Marcel never harmed Hope and kept her safe. Loved their bond.

What Hope did for Klaus

It safe to say the Klaus loved Hope more than anything. His littlest wolf. Hope changed Klaus for the better. There wasn't anything that Klaus would haven't done for his daughter. He in the end died to protect Hope.

Before Hope Klaus was well a monster. But Hope brought out a softer side of Hope, with her Klaus experienced Unconditionally Love.

"My dearest Hope. My littlest wolf. My miracle child. What a gift to be able to leave you one last message. So please carry it with you in the years to come. I want you to know this. You will make mistakes in your life. That comes with being a Mikaelson. You will go through hard times. For no one with your power always knows how to use it properly. You will find love and you will lose it. For such is the burden of immortality. But the most important thing about your life is that you live it. Because you are my Peace. And I regret a lot of things, but I don't regret a single moment I spent with you. I love you so much. Always and forever."

I could list so many more reason I love Hope. But let me leave it here. Hope has been through a lot in her life. I miss her. At least she got her happy ending.

Red Hot Winter- Chapter 16

Trigger warning- Blood sharing, vampire torture, the Mikaelsons being a dysfunctional family

Chapter 16- "Midnight Hours"

It didn't take long for the last harvest girl to make contact with the Mikaelsons. Two weeks after Francesca had died, Klaus, Caroline, Elijah, and Elena had failed in their efforts to locate her, even though Klaus wanted to force Davina to find her to which Elena strongly opposed, they got an invitation in the mail.

While the four of them were having breakfast, Caroline gave the envelope to Klaus.

"You are cordially invited to a night of the harvest feast, tonight at 9 pm." Klaus read.

"Harvest feast, Niklaus?" Asked Elijah, his hand tightening on Elena's waist.

"It could be just a coincidence, brother." Said Klaus.

"What do you mean?" Asked Elena.

"This time of the year, when we were still human it was our village's tradition to celebrate the Harvest Feast or Skördefest. It was to celebrate the successful harvest of the year while we prepared for the months we wouldn't be able to rip anything from the land." Explained Elijah.

"Wait, so what are we thinking?" Asked Caroline. "Most of the harvest girls are dead, you two killed two of them."

"It's not the witches' ceremony love." Replied Klaus, holding her hand. "We don't think the final harvest girl came back, we think our mother came back inside her body."

"How is that even possible?" Asked Elena.

"She was consecrated on New Orleans grounds, and besides, Mother always has a few tricks up her sleeve." Replied Klaus.

"You're not going Elena. Last time Mother was in your presence, she talked you into a spell to kill all of us, and I can't let her do anything against you again." Said Elijah.

"I'm not leaving you alone with her, I'm coming with you." Said Elena, in a tone that left no space for argument.

"I'm not staying either. You said I'm queen, and a queen doesn't leave her king behind." Said Caroline, crossing her arms and looking at Klaus, who smirked at her.

Later that night, Elena was finishing getting ready to leave when Elijah showed up behind her. He was almost ready as well.

"You're afraid." She said, turning around. He stopped butting up his shirt, bringing her close to his body.

"I'm not afraid. I'm concerned. It's different."

"What's concerning you?" She asked, putting her arms around his neck.

"When Esther saw what vampirism did to me and my siblings, she wanted to destroy us. That's why she made our father a vampire hunter, and Alaric Saltzman a vampire hunter as well. I'm afraid Mother will see how happy and in love we are and try to destroy what we have."

"Remember what Bonnie said? No witch can break our bond." She moved her face to whisper in his ear. "And I'd love to make it even stronger before we leave."

Leaning her head back, she scratched her neck with her nail drawing some blood, watching his face transform. She'd never get tired of this sight. His eyes turned black, the veins popped up and his fangs came down, and he bit into her neck.

It doesn't matter how many times they've done this, neither one of them would ever get over the fact of how euphoric it made them feel. Her blood seemed like it was just made for him, just the right flavor. He was addicted to it. Not taking it anymore, Elena bit into his shoulder, ruining his shirt and quenching her thirst for his blood. This was more than just making sure Esther wouldn't break their bond, this was a reaffirmation that no one ever could. Elena clutched into Elijah's back, his blood being the best drink she'd ever had. Their life force mixed together, as it is always supposed to be.

Elena and Elijah stopped drinking and looked at each other, smiling. Elijah held her face and kissed her. As their lips locked, they both had an intense rush of pleasure pouring through their veins, as if they were alive once again. Suddenly, a bond more powerful than anything before began to form. It was as if their souls were connected and intertwined together, and nothing in the world could stop them. They embraced again, this time exchanging each other's blood with every caress. This exchange felt like the purest and most passionate form of love conceivable, and soon they were both overcome with emotion, Elena had no choice but to accept the intense feelings of love and devotion that Elijah was displaying. After a few moments, the intensity of the kiss had not worn. They then shared what seemed like the longest and most passionate kiss ever and soon after they did a rush of excitement and love overcame them both, and they knew that this was a real love, a love that was unbreakable and worth treasuring forever.

When they separated, satisfied, they knew Esther wouldn't be able to do anything against them. Or at least, that was their hope.

Klaus, on the other hand, was not taking any chances.

"You need me to do what?" Asked Bonnie inside his office. Caroline was beside him.

"I need you to do a spell to protect Caroline and one that links me and Elijah," Klaus replied.

"Putting a spell to protect Caroline I get it, but why would you want to link yourself to your brother?" Bonnie said.

"Well, let's just say that the last time me, Elijah, and a doppelganger were together during a harvest festival, it didn't turn out so well for Elijah later. That was the night our mother decided who to ask for blood to perform the vampirism spell, as you all know, Tatia was the one who gave her the blood."

"What does this have to do with Elijah though?" Asked Caroline.

"Love, you can ask me for anything in the world and I'll give it to you, but I can't answer that. Not even I know all the details, but… it took my brother decades to crawl out from what my mother did to him."

"Okay. But what about Elena? Doesn't she need protection too?" Asked Bonnie.

"My brother would die before letting anything happen to her. And besides, I'm pretty sure the blood sharing they've just done will not allow Esther to do much." Replied Klaus.

Bonnie went to work, grabbing one of Caroline's hands and putting over a golden bowl. She cut through the vampire's palm, letting a few blood drops fall, and reciting the incantation. Caroline's blood turned to fire, and what appeared to be a golden halo enveloped the young vampire, quickly fading away.

"You're protected." Said Bonnie, smiling. "Now, for you." She said, turning to the hybrid. "I'm gonna need your blood and your brothers as well, and I'm also gonna need you to write your name and your brother's name in runes. They don't teach runes anymore."

"No problem Bon-bon." Said Klaus, writing down his name 'Niklaus' (ᚾᛁᚲᚨᛚᚢᛊ) and 'Elijah' (ᛖᛚᛁᛃᚨᚺ), and then biting his own wrist, letting the blood fall onto the sheet. Bonnie started to recite another incantation, watching the blood fall onto Klaus's name and then to Elijah, linking both of the originals.

After thanking the witch, who left to continue teaching Davina, even though she didn't like the fact that the young witch made a new witch friend called Kaleb, who had been showing up to their meetings all the time, Caroline turned to Klaus.

"You want to protect your brother." She said.

"Yes, my love." He said, looking at her. "While my father has done unspeakable things to me throughout the centuries, I'm afraid my mother has done something far worse to Elijah." His tone in the last sentence left no room for question.

"Why do you call Mikael your father? He was not your biological father." Looking at his feet, he said:

"He has done damage only a father could make. Sometimes I wonder if I'm gonna do the same things to Hope." Tears fell from his eyes.

"You're not," Caroline reassured him, wiping his tears by kissing his face. "You know how I know?" He looked at her, while she held his face between her hands. "You're doing everything in your power to make this place a safer home for her. You've been doing right by her even before she was born. You love her, and you have forever to spend with her."

Klaus gently kissed her. She was truly his queen.

The ride to Esther's house was fast, but what they dreaded was inside. The four of them got into Esther's house and were greeted by Vincent. Both Elijah and Klaus had a deadly grip on Elena and Caroline's waist, ready to attack if they had to. They were led outside by the witch. There was a bonfire in the middle of the yard, a table set for six with various types of Viking food, and by the smell of animal blood in the air, it appeared that Esther had followed the tradition to a T.

"Welcome, welcome." Said Esther, in the body of the fourth and final Harvest girl. "Niklaus, Elijah, so great to have you in my house. But I don't remember inviting a young vampire and a third-generation doppelganger."

"You do anything against them Esther, and I'll rip your heart out." Said Elijah, in a threatening tone.

"That's no way to treat our mother!" Said Vincent.

"Mother? The only one who would say such a thing would be Finn." Said Klaus. "Wasn't it enough to come back from the dead? You had to bring our most annoying sibling along?"

"Niklaus." Said Elijah. "You can't say those things about our brother."

"Can't I?" Defied Klaus.

"You lock me up in a box for 900 years Niklaus. You expect me to thank you?" Said Finn.

"Children, we have visitors." Said Esther, trying to quiet her sons. "Now, let's eat." The six of them sit at the table, Esther and Finn at both ends of the table, with Elijah sitting next to Elena, and Caroline and Klaus seating next to each other facing the couple.

They all started to eat, Elijah serving Elena, with Klaus doing the same to Caroline.

"Now Elena." Said Esther, after a few minutes. "How's your brother? I heard he had become a hunter of the brotherhood of the five."

"Mother, don't." Warned Elijah.

"It's okay, Elijah," Elena said, holding his hand with more strength than she usually did. "My brother was killed by Katherine to wake up Silas."

"I'm terribly sorry for your loss, dear." Said Esther. "In the matters of the supernatural, is never good when a poor child loses their life." That got Klaus's attention, who looked at her. "One week our beloved Henrik was alive and running through the fields as if nothing mattered, the next he's dead because he and Niklaus went to watch the wolves." Caroline put her hand on Klaus's leg to calm him down, because he was about to snap. "By the way" Esther's turned to Klaus. "How's my little granddaughter doing?"

The silence was deafening. The four of them knew they couldn't deny and say she was dead, though the whole city thought so. If she knew, she had become a more deadlier threat than they had originally thought.

In a matter of seconds, Klaus stood up and held his mother by her neck. Finn stood up, but Elijah was quicker and held him back.

"You and Niklaus, always looking out for each other." Said Finn. "It's almost pathetic how devoted you are to him, Elijah."

"I swore my alliance to him the day you and Kol decided to leave me and Rebekah behind."

"He puts you in a coffin for decades and you still stand by him?"

"I'll never leave my family behind, not even if I have to stand against you brother."

"What do you know about Hope?" Klaus demanded to know, squeezing Esther's neck. "I've killed you once. I can easily do it again"

"I know she is not dead. Do you really think the witches wouldn't feel if a being so powerful like her died? You might have the entire city, the vampires and the wolves convinced she is dead, but the witches know better."

"If you make a move against my daughter, your life will be reduced to a never-ending agony."

"I don't need to make a move against your daughter Klaus… I just need to hit you where you hurt." And with that, Finn started to recite an incantation. The chains that had been used to restrain the animals for the harvest came off the ground, locking themselves on each of Elijah's wrists, and then tying to two branches of two nearby trees. Both Elijah and Klaus screamed in agony. The chains had been soaked in vervain and were piercing against the vampire's skin.

"No!" Screamed Elena, going to him to try and let him go. Finn tried to hold her back but she had transformed into full vampire mode and bit his neck, drinking his blood enough to keep him away. "Elijah!" Elena tried to take the chains out, but even with her strength, she couldn't open them up.

"Don't bother." Said Finn weakly. "You will never be able to open them up"

"Let him go!" Said Klaus, who had let off his mother when the chains had been tied to his brother.

"No." Said Esther. "I'm gonna make your life, and your brother's life as unbearable and agonizing as I can."

"Niklaus…" Said Elijah, debilitated. "Get her out of here."

"No, please Elijah, don't…" Begged Elena.

"She can't break our bond, love." Said Elijah. "I don't want you to stay here and get yourself hurt because of me."

"Elena, let's go." Said Caroline, trying to get her to go.

"I'm not going!" Said Elena, her tears mixing with the blood she had drank.

"Elena, look at me, please." Begged Elijah, having trouble breathing. "I know you'll be back for me. I need you to go, I need to protect you, my lovely Elena. Please."

Elena kissed him one last time as she leaned into him. Tears streaming down her face, she felt like time had stopped as they embraced and all her worries and fears seemed to disappear. She savored this moment, remembering how his lips felt as he did the same.

Each kiss they shared had been like a testimony to their time together, and this last one carried the weight of all the others wrestled with the knowledge of what it meant – she had to leave him. Tears blurred her vision as she stepped away.

If it wasn't for Klaus dragging her away, she'd stay behind, even though Elijah had asked her to leave. Elijah breathed out in relief, watching his brother take his love to safety and finally let the poison of the vervain overtake him.

Back at the compound, Elena was ready to give Klaus a piece of her mind.

"Elena, do you really think I would go to a dinner party with my mother and not have an advantage?" Said Klaus, pouring himself some scotch, while Caroline was trying to calm her down. "Before we left, I asked the Bennett witch to link me and my brother. That way, even if my mother tries to kill him, she can't kill me. I'll heal and so will him."

Elena flew across the room, holding Klaus by his neck, and throwing his cup away.

"Why didn't you tell me this before?" She asked.

"Well, you and my brother were too busy sharing your blood. And besides, we're going to rescue him" Elena let go of Klaus.

"And how are we gonna do this?" Asked the brunette.

"Well, mother is in the body of a teenager. Knowledge is not her problem, but she is not as strong on that body, and she wouldn't be able to compete against a Bennett and a Harvest witch together."

Even though she didn't want to bring Davina into this, Elena knew the young witch would do just that. She considered Elena her older sister and would do anything to keep her happy.

"Fine." Said Elena. "Let's do it your way."

Elena got out of Klaus's office and went to her and Elijah's bedroom. She took her clothes off and put on one of Elijah's shirts, being enveloped by his scent. Laying on the bed, she started to cry.

"We're gonna bring you back." She whispered.

Back in Esther's yard, Elijah could've sworn he heard Elena whisper that they’d bring him back. His moment of hopefulness was cut short by Esther driving a stake with vervain on his chest, and he gave himself up to the darkness again.

Thoughts on 3x12-3x22 ok lots of thoughts again! I will say I’m not totally sure how I feel about this half of S3. While I was mostly entertained and I enjoyed some of the storylines it did feel like the show was going through the motions for much of this half. I think it had to do with the plans changing with Klaus and wanting to keep him alive for the spin-off. The Evil!Alaric and ring-that-makes-you-murder plot were zzzzzz and Esther was eh as well. I’m also not an “original groupie” I found most of the family annoying or boring especially at this stage so that probably didn’t help (I do like them better on the spin-off particularly Klaus and Bekah). While I don't care about the triangle back and forth the Defan scenes were mostly great and I did enjoy the focus on Stefan's addiction both with bloodlust and his personality.

Um Stefan is being way too dramatic about Elena kissing Damon, like come on man. Maybe if you weren't terrorizing her for the last few months she wouldn't have gravitated towards Damon. Even if you want to try and excuse it like "he was compelled to turn it off" his humanity was on for his most recent terrorist activity of threatening to drive her off a bridge! Damon deserved to be punched in the face though, no issues with that.

I like how Elena is like “but Elijah?!” and everyone is like “anyway, let’s dagger an original!” because I agree! The hell I care about Elijah, already stabbed them in the back once.

This Alaric subplot with Meredith and the ring that turns you into a serial killer plot is very confusing and boring.

Nice to see Elena facing some consequences for bringing the Salvatores into everyone's lives and their actions always negatively affecting her friends. Caroline is such a good friend by being able to protect Bonnie there, and not make Elena feel too bad while making a great point. I mean they could have easily manipulated Elijah into backing off by playing up the "humanity and morals" bullshit he pretends to adhere by.

It’s kind of weird how the show randomly started hinting at Matlena being romantic, Matt just throwing his hat in the ring since he’s got nothing better to do.

Damon is a horrible sober sponsor.

We have reached the very strange point in my rewatch where DAMON is the least annoying member of the trio right now. He seems to be the only one who understands his brother is an addict, in all forms of life. Like he said Stefan goes from one extreme to the other, he cannot do moderation. He's either the good brother or the ripper there's no middle ground (yet). As soon as Stefan found out Elena kissed Damon he went back to the extreme "good brother persona" which, maybe if you weren't so comfortable with Damon BEING IN LOVE WITH ELENA while you were together this wouldn't have happened, Stefan. He hammed it up in 3x14 with soulful glances and manpain, that obviously worked hook line and sinker since he made it all about Elena. Then the terror at having to be the one to turn Abby to the point Damon knew he had to do it because he doesn't care (neither does Elena but that's a whole nother conversation). Then when she saw him with blood feeding on a girl he acted like everything is ruined! What I'm trying to say is Stefan is insane.

I like that Caroline is using all the methods Stefan taught her when she first turned. When she told Jamie that Abby needs him and to not avoid her so she maintains her humanity with human connection. Just like how Stefan brought Caroline to the swimming hole to be with Matt and convinced Bonnie to give her a daylight ring (I miss my babies this is all I can get right now *sigh*). In general though watching Caroline's vampirism storyline has been wonderful! I have even more appreciation for it during this rewatch.

Klaus stomping around the porch before using a soccer ball and picket fence for darts really sells it. I just love when Klaus is over-the-top in a funny non-whining way, I could do without the yelling in so many of his scenes.

Tyler saving Elena and saying "I'm not your little bitch anymore" was a great scene for him and overall he's had such a great arc the past few seasons. He's also just so devoted to Caroline and they have a great romance, and I think it's one of the reasons I can never get into the KC scenes. Because I do get the appeal and they have some good scenes (I like the chemistry in the "rescue" scene this episode) but ultimately Caroline never shows anything besides an attraction to Klaus and that's not my vibe.

I know a lot of fandom thinks Elena should have chosen herself instead of picking a Salvatore and while I do agree with that (she needed to pick lots of therapy and anti-depressants) it's kind of fundamentally not who she is. Elena loves love and being in love and because of that she's incapable of choosing to be alone.

I don’t know if Stefan wasn't so off balance battling between extremes this season with his bloodlust and ripper/good brother personalities he would have made the same decision that he did, to save Matt over Elena. Watching it all unfold in a rewatch binge like this I noticed way more instances of that being pointed out (especially by Damon). Look I've heard all the reasons to why Stefan let Elena die, and yes he let her DIE because no one knew she had vampire blood in her system and would come back (even then he know she didn't want to be a vampire). No matter how you spin it "he didn't want her to hate him for letting Matt die" "he always respected her choice and didn't want her to have survivor's guilt" "insert any 'actually it was really selfless excuse' you've read" the fact of the matter is he looked at the love of his life drowning and saved her friend instead. That is so CRAZY!!! That his need to be the "good brother who respects Elena's choices" outweighed her life. I have even seen that he didn't save her because he feels so much regret for forcing Damon to turn and taking that decision away from him, but like when has Stefan EVER respecting Damon's decision to die? Everything he went through this season is because he wouldn't let Damon die, hell the reason he's dead now is because he wouldn't respect that decision! I think Stefan's psyche is so fascinating and how he's essentially an "addict" in so many ways. He does get better at moderation between all of his extremes (personality and bloodlust) though in later seasons, but right now he is hella hella crazy. I think this scene was pretty detrimental to Stefan in re: Elena because it meant Damon was right he's the one who was going to keep Elena alive. All I'm saying is there's a reason Paul Wesley hates this scene.

Lines that made me laugh:

Damon: Insulting a bunch of dead witches not smart I made the same mistake first time I came here (Damon was so smug someone else got to be tortured by the witches for once)

Caroline: I can hear every word you're saying about Damon and the vampire gigolo. (you know she was mad about it too)

first and foremost , I do not follow any canon after season three . anything that happens after that can be plotted with different muses but it will always be headcanon based . seasons 1-3 for damon will also mostly follow my headcanons and not canon tbh .

for season one - damon comes back to mystic falls to mess with stefan & open the tomb . at this point he views humans purely as food and has his humanity turned off . his humanity has been turned off for good since he was tortured by the augustine society . but , before that he has had it on and off over the decades after stefan forced him to transition . at the point where he returns - damon believes that if he can bring katherine back ( because he is still in love with her ) he can find his way back to his humanity through that love . he wants to forgive stefan and with katherine back he would be able to do so because he only didn't want to live because he felt without her it was not worth living .

the caroline plot does not happen in my canon . period . damon does compel caroline as a way to be able to get closer to stefan ( and elena because he feels messing with her is an easy way to mess with stefan ) and to learn secrets from the all too trusting caroline . but the biting / abuse / etc is just not something I am comfortable with and does not happen . it was a way to portray him as a villain and I feel he can be just as bad of a villain for that season without that nonsense . so , there is nothing romantic between caroline / damon at this time period .

damon does turn vicki . he also attacks vicki in the first episode as canon suggests . like I mentioned before - humans are purely food to damon with his humanity off . and he does not know how vicki relates to anybody else in mystic falls . she is simply someone in the woods that seems like an easy target . when he turns vicki it is because when he is getting ready to finish her off he is intrigued that she does not die and seems to be strong enough to still be alive . he heals her with his blood because she interests him and reminds him of himself . he is slightly sad when stefan has to kill her , but is coming to appreciate the people of mystic falls and enjoy being home again so he does not protest .

damon spends his time covering up his actions and infiltrating the founder's counsel just as the show suggests . he does kill coach tanner to mess with stefan - again , humans like this are nothing to him with humanity off - but he knows that his guilt is lingering beneath the surface and he is starting to feel more . . . human again .

when stefan attacks damon with vervain , he does so by putting it in a random party - goers drink and not caroline . so when damon feeds later - not even intending to kill - he is able to be captured . damon does use his compulsion to bring caroline to let him out but that is the end of it . he is also the reason for lexi's death - he considers her collateral damage to protect his brother whom he is starting to feel sympathy for - and yet , he knows lexi's death will hurt stefan and he has not yet let go of his anger .

things continue much the same for damon - when they go into the tomb and he realizes katherine is missing it is enough of an emotional blow that damon's humanity turns back on without him consciously deciding to turn it on . afterwards , damon begins to help elena and her friends . he is drawn to her compassion because she reminds him of himself as a human - but nothing romantic happens between them ( if any ships are plotted with elena I will need to discuss them in a plot first as they are not always my top ship and usually remain platonic in my canon ) . damon begins to realize that stefan made a mistake but only wanted to keep his brother with him and with his humanity back on ( and having made mistakes himself ) damon begins to forgive stefan and want to protect him again as well as help him . although he knows nobody can quite trust him .

damon feels badly for stefan when he drinks from elena and begins to struggle - this is the first time damon begins doing things for others . although he still tries to cover up his humanity being back on with humor etc .

when stefan goes with klaus - damon begins to show his humanity even more and his friendship with elena does grow . he does his best to step in and be the man he wants to be - becoming a hero without really meaning to . despite not wanting to be a bad guy , he doesn't really want the expectations of a good guy either . he also begins to get over katherine after she comes back and he realizes she never truly loved him and loved stefan more . his dark side shows more around Katherine and is something very difficult for him to deal with .

all other plots after this point need to be discussed .

main plot points:

klaus's fc for this verse is JACOB ANDERSON. alwysndforever's esther (angela bassett) is my klaus's canon esther for this verse.

upon gaining the knowledge that there is a human doppelganger alive, klaus begins looking for werewolves to turn to hybrids after he breaks the curse. the first he finds is jackie matlin (insanislupus), a werewolf that hadn't been triggered for too long and was desperate for an end to the cycle. klaus offered her an out in the form of turning into a hybrid, and all she had to do in exchange was remain loyal to him and do his bidding.

as in normal klaus fashion, he begins sleeping with jackie and learns more about her as time goes on. he consistently tests her loyalty to him, whether it be sending her off to get things for him, to spy for him, or threatening to kill her just to see how she reacts. it is not a wholesome relationship.

klaus eventually decides that jackie is worthy of his trust, and sends her to mystic falls to keep an eye on the doppelganger for him and make sure nothing happens to her until klaus needs her. in that time, jackie pretends to be elena's friend but also garners a very twisted form of affection and care for elena as well.

when the time comes for klaus to break the hybrid curse, jackie reveals her involvement with klaus that very night. she is there through the whole thing and isn't expecting elijah's betrayal, but is there when klaus turns for the first time in a thousand years.

when klaus and jackie leave with stefan to find more wolves and after klaus gives stefan's memories back to him, he begins sleeping with stefan as well as jackie. the situation is incredibly complicated considering jackie's history with elena, and elena nearly asking jackie to be with both her and stefan.

klaus makes it very clear that jackie is not to be turned until they figure out why the other wolves can't complete the transition. this puts a strain on their relationship, as jackie wanted to be the first hybrid he turned as well as her being impatient to be free of the full moon curse. klaus says it's because he values jackie's loyalty and can't afford to lose her because of it, but in truth it's because he cares about her more than he is willing to admit.

when they get back to mystic falls and figure out that the issue is doppelganger blood, jackie is turned directly after tyler. klaus notices the sirebond in jackie well before anyone notices it in tyler, he simply says nothing about it. their relationship becomes far more intense because of it, and both of them fully attribute it to the sirebond, when in reality it's more than that.

klaus sends jackie to extract elena's blood as much and as often as possible, because he knows elena would never let him do it himself. during one of those times, elena and jackie sleep together. the reasoning for this is extremely convoluted and complicated, but essentially it boils down to jackie feeling left without as much attention as she used to get from klaus (the feeling intensified from the sirebond) because of everything going on, as well as both jackie and elena never getting to explore their unresolved feelings for each other before jackie betrayed her. klaus is irritated with this, but not angry about it, mostly because it bodes an advantage for him. (it should be because he'd be a hypocrite because of what happened with stefan, but he will never ever recognize that)

regarding hayley & hope, klaus still sleeps with hayley and gets her pregnant even though he's in a fairly serious relationship with jackie. he is just not a good guy, y'all. he's a rat. he is a bad boyfriend. will that stop jackie from being obsessed with him? absolutely not.

the rest of the timeline isn't as detailed, as we tend to write within season 3 of tvd or the originals, but most canon events are still canon. if you have any questions, feel free to ask!

there are two subverses off of this verse as well, one that involves @hiveruled's tvdu verse and one where jackie kills and turns elena at the end of S3 when she believes klaus is dead, and elena ends up sired to jackie instead of damon.

If there’s one thing that could make me like Chaol again, it’s the fact that he stopped at nothing to dive into a hellish dimension to rescue Fleetfoot.

Obviously I need some more detail about fae and what they are and why humans might fear and hate them.

If we’re going by ACOTAR rules, faeries never seemed to be all that different from humans, and the fear just stems from a centuries old war that might have carried with it a prejudice through the generations.

We kind of got a glimpse of the wider world in this story, but we haven’t really encountered fae or tales of their wickedness yet. But Celaena herself calls it “the monster unleashed” or whatever, so maybe they are worse than ACOTAR faeries, or maybe, she’s just been hanging out with humans too long and has internalized that self hatred. But I think she stands a good chance of teaching the world that faeries are just like humans, especially since she was able to mask herself as one and build all these vital friendships.

I dunno

I just hope that they don’t all start to hate her for something she can’t control.

People say that Damon torturing Katherine in season 5 and tying Amara up in a car and Elena's reaction to both of those situations proves that Stefan is better for Elena and better in general. They say that if Elena were to act "out of line" or if Damon were to fall out of love with her he wouldn't hesitate to treat her that way. However for a while Damon left Katherine alone and encouraged her to take care of herself until she caused trouble. I totally understand why he treated Katherine the way he did in season 5 and besides Stefan had tortured Katherine in the past and ended up killing her anyways. Stefan is seen as being better to Katherine since he slept with her and had moments of being nice to her when she helped with his trauma of drowning. But Stefan told Katherine he wouldn't be able to forget what she put him through in the last 147 years while Damon told her he was willing to forget in 2x01. Also why do you think Damon treated Amara the way he did?

There's more than one way to handle a situation, which is one of the ways in which Damon challenges Elena. An underlying theme like all other themes, and it starts early in the series. That's why Damon tells Caroline, "This could have gone a completely different way." Damon's comments to Caroline work for Stefan's side and Stefan's comments to Elena work for Damon's side.

Fans may not like Elena's dark parts, but they exist whether she embraces them or not. Elena understands why Damon tortures Katherine. We're talking about the very same girl who wanted to kill Katherine for killing her brother. The same girl who flat-out said, "Tell me that you don't want her dead. After everything that she did to you? Stringing you along for hundreds of years?" And she feels this way whether human or vampire. That's why she had no problem with Damon and Stefan planning and attempting to kill Katherine in Masquerade... at a time when she was dating Stefan. Because her dark parts exist whether she embraces them or not.

Fans are ridiculous if they have a problem with Damon tying Amara up in a car. Woman is suicidal, and she's their answer to getting Bonnie back. Tying her up in a car is no different than locking her in the cellar. As they say, there's more than one way to skin a cat. The end result is still the same. Amara will be kept alive for the sake of bringing Bonnie back, then she can do with her life what she wants. Elena isn't denying Amara her choice to die, she's simply pressing pause on her suicide for the sake of saving her best friend. And yes, Elena would do the same thing if she were human because her dark parts exist whether she embraces them or not. They do the same thing with Rayna and Bonnie in season 7. Do they complain that Enzo had Rayna tied up in a car, then locked in a cellar because she was the answer to saving Bonnie? Do they complain that Bonnie was cool with Rayna being treated that way, cool with it until they could trust Rayna enough to let her out? Unlike Rayna, Amara was severely damaged. She's the scream of an insane asylum, and magnified as a vampire's senses are.

You bring up a good point about Stefan. Frederick and Katherine both described the pain of desiccation for the sake of showing fans what he was willing to do to Damon. It was meant to coincide with his Augustine torture. The kind of pain that could drive a person mad. Stefan would force 27 vampires to spend their eternity in a tomb rather than allow them the chance at a life. He would force Katherine to spend her eternity in a tomb rather than allow her the chance at a life. Childish fan whining, bitter that Damon ended up with Elena and got his happy ending. As Stefan said and very much meant... Damon is the better man, the RIGHT man FOR Elena. Stefan was better for Caroline.

TVD Thoughts - Season 1

Ep. 15 ("A Few Good Men")

(These are always a rant im sorry. Does anyone even care lol)

1. The vampire from the tomb, Harper.. I know he was shook when he learned it was 2010 😭

2. Matt is literally soo nice ughh, his mom is yucky though..i feel so bad for him, 😟 him and Caroline are sooo cute! Also Caroline is so pretty, she has a really cute smile.

3. Alaric man.. I feel for him too. Isobel seems like a weirdo... Why did she really go to Damon? And ask him to turn her? Hmmmm... 🤔

4. That Trudie lady, who was Isobel's friend...what did she know? And how did she know that vampires are a thing..and that man who killed her seemed to be working for Isobel or something. When he stepped in front of a truck..when i tell you i was shook! 💀 like omg wtf! I did not expect that!

5. I have a question, at the end, that Harper guy goes to Pearl or what seems to be her house. But it seems to me she somehow compelled a human to let her stay there. Then, Pearl says to that lady: "May he come in?" And the lady let's him in. I thought you had to be of a clear mind to let a vampire in. I guess if you compell a human to let another vampire in, it works? Which just seems kinda idk... not fair lol.

6. Also, I can't wait for the moment when Caroline's mom realizes Damon is a vampire. She constantly praises him and thanks him for his work against the vamps, but like honey he's one of them! I know she's gonna be gagged lol 😭

7. Finally, Elena, ughh, my girl just cannot catch a break.. 😫Like, the people you thought were your parents die, and then you bio mom, is also apparently dead. And Damon killed her.. Like I really don't understand how they end up together... Then she finds out, no, her mom is alive, is most likely a vampire and wants nothing to do with you.. Damn..

I am thoroughly enjoying this show so far, the story is really interesting and I'm always on my toes so to say. And I noticed I'm getting really attached to some of these characters (Matt). I feel like they do a good job of making you feel empathy the characters.

thoughts  on  my  version  of  john  gilbert;      john  is  usually  always  a  resurrected  version  of  the  character.      he  did  not  find  peace  as  the  show  suggested  and  he  was  well  aware  he  wouldn’t.      letting  go  of  that  promise  of  peace  after  you  die  was  all  part  of  the  sacrifice.      he  instead  found  himself  trapped  in  the  same  place  the  ring  used  to  send  him,    the  other  side,    despite  not  being  supernatural.      he  remained  here  by  himself,    watching  over  elena  and  jeremy,    until  the  other  side  fell.      john  attempts  to  help  lexi  hold  back  markos,    but  is  knocked  into  bonnie  during  the  scuffle,    causing  him  to  pass  back  through.      john’s  resurrection  doesn’t  bring  him  back  just  as  he  was  before.      he  struggles  to  connect  with  feeling  alive.      he  doesn’t  feel  hunger  or  thirst,    or  a  lot  of  passion    /    enjoyment  for  simple  pleasures.      this  is  a  result  of  being  a  human  spirit  trapped  in  a  supernatural  dimension  too  long,    as  well  as  the  fact  his  actual  soul    &    energy  were  bound  to  elena,    which  means  they  are  no  longer  fully  a  part  of  him      .  .  .      which  was  worth  it  because  it  meant  his  daughter  got  to  live.

so nothing officially known... I personally feel like the show WAS aiming for delena from the start because from the start it catered much more heavily towards the "realising the bad guy deserves love too" trope than "staying together against all obstacles" one, but I have always wondered if that flashback in 3x22 of Damon and Elena meeting before the events of the show was always planned (as in, the whole show is written with the premise "they met first, it should have been their story") or was it like. some sort of fix-it retcon

It was 100% a fix it retcon. The I saw her first I get dibs shit is insanely lazy story writing. Stefan saving her under wickery bridge isn't the reason she fell in love with him in season 1. Stefan helped her feel alive again. Damon helped her embrace being... dead? Like it's really bad. Anyways Stefan and Elena through season 1-3 were staying together against all obstacles tropes and Damon was the main obstacle before Klaus.

They were aiming to establish a love triangle the main component of the books. While conveniently skirting around that Damon is a predatory rapey possessive monster. they literally wrote him like this in Season 1A breaking into Elena's house giving her wet dreams, trying to make her kiss him, forcing himself on Caroline and compelling her to let it happen over and over again. The show then tried to heavy heavy shift courses on him to make him seem even Kind Of redeemable. And then in seasons 4-6 tried to go for the Damon is a monster who wants to kill but Elena is okay with that now for some reason.

So they never really Sold the love story and they knew it. Damon and Elena weren't an epic love story they were a hot and heavy fanfiction trope of help I'm sired to the vampire who's killed my brother and abused my friends for years what do i do but have sex with him. And then after that they had no clue what to do with a relationship for them. Back and forth with does Damon want to be human does he want to be with Elena if he keeps breaking up with her. If Elena can have like all of 6 memories compelled away and she goes from loving Damon to hating and being repulsed by him did she actually love him much at all? That was the way Nina exited the show that was her final season. Elena barely loves Damon and tries desperately to convince him not to be human with her. And in the end Damon is forced to become human and lose his brother and that's it that's how his character ends until he gets peace and he and Elena get to Vampire Diaries Heaven and their eternities of Peace is them splitting up and going to be with their families instead of each other. It's literally one of the worst done relationships in any show ever 😭
