Thess vs The Shooting

About recent news: I'm not going to enjoy the next few news cycles very much? But while this might be problematic short term, I don't think it's going to be the disaster people say it is. At least, not if everyone follows the advice that has been given all along - don't decide your vote doesn't matter, don't decide that third-party protest votes will be your best course of action, just vote and vote blue.

Here's why:

Look, at this point, everyone that's going to vote for Trump is going to vote for Trump no matter what - there is no getting them off that particular Titanic. Marginals? I'm sorry, but Trump does not appeal to marginals. Trump appeals to ... well, MAGA types, and there are a few too many of those. Getting shot at does not make one a viable political candidate, no matter how many people talk conspiracy.

And let's face it - Trump is not going to pull the "Biden conspired to have me killed" card. Not because he doesn't want to (and no one's going to gainsay it because the man who allegedly fired the shots is apparently dead), but because it would probably have that stupid decision the Supreme Court made about what kinds of immunity a president has being relevant sooner than Trump wants it to be. He wants to be able to pick up that tactical nuke that the Supreme Court dropped outside the White House. If anything, if he gets the presidency, he's going to pick it up and use it to round up political enemies "for his own protection" because "he got shot at once, you know". But that entirely relies on his being elected. Which, because of the above, can be stopped by the simple method of a bunch of people actually getting out and voting blue in November.

Plus ... seriously, this is going to eat a couple of news cycles and die no matter how hard Trump tries to capitalise on this. He's currently yelling that America must "stand united" when he's the one who went to such lengths to deepen the divides in the first place, but at the end of the day, it's a piece of news, and most of the news will move on. The ... I don't remember what the American equivalent of GB News is (the one that's worse than Fox), but that one'll run conspiracy theories for as long as it's allowed, and it'll be all over Truth Social and probably Twitter, but news cycles are way different than they were when I was a kid. They blow up fast and blow over faster, and this probably won't be any different.

Basically, I'm not going to panic. I'll keep a half an eye on it, but at the end of the day, news is theatre at this point. It's "what makes good TV" or whatever. It's put together by people who believe (sometimes rightly) that the populace has the collective attention span of concussed goldfish and about as much memory capacity. There's a lot we don't know, and news outlets will spend a fair bit of time analysing what we do know (and why we aren't able to know more, and I'm looking at the ones who apparently killed the alleged shooter, because now we can't ask that individual the kinds of questions that would indicate whether it was politically motivated or it was just like that guy who shot at Reagan to impress Jodie Foster). But after they've wrung out the last bits of information, it's going to fade away no matter what Trump does to keep it alive. And he's basically painted himself into a corner there because he's got that whole "toxic masculinity" thing going on and any attempts to drag out how brave he was in the wake of being shot at after the fact? They're going to look like whining.

But it's going to be a fairly gross week in the news while this gets processed, I'll give you that. I just can't afford to panic until the world proves me wrong about how shit like the news works.

Anyway, life goes on. (I admit to some very uncharitable thoughts about that whole situation in the immediate, though. I generally find it distasteful to wish death on anyone, but I do admit to being uncharitable enough as a person to have a few exceptions, if you see what I mean. But I'm not going to harp on about it at the end of the day because it doesn't help.)

Every once in a while, there's a comment on one of my political posts that's like "YEAH YOU'RE VOTING FOR THE PERSON DOING GENOCIDE, IDIOT" and...

I really don't think people realize that Trump would ALSO do genocide, but WORSE. You all do realize that he's not going to get into office and stop the Palestinian genocide, right? In fact, he will very likely send MORE WEAPONS to Israel to make sure they can do genocide even more efficiently. You do realize that, right? And he'll probably fund Russia's war, too. These aren't random hypotheticals. He is signaled very strongly that these are his intentions.

This isn't me "not caring" about people who aren't me. It's that I'm intelligent enough to realize the choice I have is between two people who will commit genocide, and I have a responsibility to pick the person who will cause less harm.

If I have to pick between a person who will kill 10,000 people and a person who will kill 1,000,000 people, who's the better choice? The best option is "neither," but having no president at all isn't a result that can happen in an election. One of them WILL be president.

I don't know how there's some people out there who don't get that, besides knowing there's a HUGE echo chamber that's telling people not to vote. Progressives are NOT immune to those echo chambers, and, in fact, seem to be more susceptible to them because so many are seeking to vote for the perfect candidate.

You have to think for yourself. You have to look at facts. You HAVE TO QUESTION EVERYTHING YOU READ. Think about the consequences of a Trump presidency, not only here, but for the Palestinians and Ukrainians. It would be really easy for you to vote third party, and it would probably feel pretty good at the moment. But then you lose your right to do Surprised Pikachu Face when Trump is elected and makes himself a dictator.

I am not trying to shame you. You gotta stop looking at this as shaming. This is fucking history. This is what has happened before. This isn't a slippery slope fallacy. It is literally in our past, and I'm here telling you it's in our past and what's going to happen if people keep talking exactly like they did in 2016.

Me telling you you're wrong and telling you the consequences of your actions isn't me trying to make you feel bad. It's me trying to tell you to cause less harm in the small way you're able to do that. I'm not guessing here. I'm not making things up to get you to vote how I want you to vote. I cannot stress enough that I have lived through this shit before.

Then I also see a lot of people telling me I should really be posting about what Biden can do for us here to make people feel better about voting for him.

That would also make a lot of people feel good, but that's not what this vote is about. Biden has done a lot of good things, but that literally doesn't matter in this vote. What matters is preventing an absolute catastrophe. The MAIN ISSUE is preventing a catastrophe.

I know some of you don't like what I'm telling you--that this platform is essentially between two unfavorable candidates. But you really are voting for the future of democracy in this country. That's what should inspire you. And if this is dissuading you from voting, well, I don't know what to tell you. Not everything in life gets to have a positive spin to it. Find a reason and vote.

Bear with me, this is long; but I have thoughts.

Here's the thing, when I watched Biden over the last few weeks, I was of two minds. It is clear that Biden isn't as robust as he was four years ago. It is also clear that people have no clear understanding of stuttering. Mixing up words or names, having trouble getting words out while looking like you've forgotten what your saying, repeating words and phrases are actually quite normal. Speaking slowly is one trick used to have less flubs, but people also take it as something being mentally wrong with a person. And, yes, being tired or stressed can make it a hell of a lot worse. But does this mean I think Biden's issue was just a speech problem?

I think I saw a man who clearly is old. That there are more physical limitations on him than there were before (which is an argument to step down in and of itself). But I also saw a man who, at a press conference, could still answer questions. Yes, it was hard to understand at times, but he was answering the questions. We also had several foreign leaders at the time confirming that they had productive conversations with Biden. In other words, it seems like Biden was still mentally sound. Still, it could have meant he was just having a good day.

What I can't deny, and this is something I see all the time as I work with Seniors, is that a lot of people take one look at the physical limitations and immediately assumed there were mental ones as well. Instead of just outright demanding he drop out, they should have demanded that he be tested of Dementia or Alzheimer's. And maybe they did, privately, and he refused. Which is concerning and also should be brought to the public's attention.

And if the Democrats really felt they didn't have a choice, they should have made it clear from the get go who the Nominee would be. For instance, I come from a state were a candidate for Senator lost his life a few weeks before the election. It was too late to change the ballot. So, in order to deal with the public's concerns they immediately made it clear who would take his place if people voted for the deceased. Sure, national news had a field day with this, but they missed the point. Clear heads made sure we had a smooth transition during a horrible situation.

There are no cool heads here. This was a shit show. Because of how the Democrats handled this, we now....

-Have no clue who are nominee is because they were very adamant not to name a possible successor.

-Seem to put rich people's money over Democracy as most people did not speak out until they were afraid of loosing finances, which means they were either hiding the truth about Biden's health or are willing to stab him in the back for their own political gain. Neither option is acceptable.

-Made it even harder to convince people their votes matter, as they have just invalidated the Primary, although this could have been lessened if they just had said that they would go with Harris. After all, people should be voting for the VP as much as the President.

-Set a dangerous precedent by removing a candidate with the flimsiest of evidence. And, no, "don't you think he looks unwell," is not evidence. A scan of his brain is evidence.

-Shown that political parties can be manipulated with questionable polls and so-called journalism. For instance, one of the articles I read by CNN, a few days after the debate, had a headline that said that the majority of people thought Biden couldn't win. I read the article and, half way down, it showed the poll. There were two questions. The first asked if people thought Biden can win? 65% said no. Then, they asked if people would still vote for Biden? 91% said yes. Seems to me that it wasn't an issue of people not wanting Biden, but people being afraid that most people wanted to drop Biden. What CNN should have done, if they were more interested in facts than ratings, was to simply make the headline about both.

-But most of all, by showing their inability to handle a crisis; basically handing a smoking gun to the Republicans.

I will still vote Democrat in November, I just hope that Democrats really consider what they've done today. Sure, it might (and I emphasize might) win us the election in November; but I worry about how this precedent will be used in the future.

I absolutely feel you, though. I was shocked to see Chris and Biden shaking hands. Of course, Chris was at the White House, so it's not impossible, that is where the POTUS is most of the time, and I believe Chris has been to the White House before. I could be wrong there, but, if nothing else, he's certainly been in and around Washington D.C. before with A Starting Point.

(A Starting Point being, according to Wikipedia, "A Starting Point is a website, launched in 2020, devoted to presenting videos by elected officials (current or former), presenting various points of view on issues that are of interest to the United States electorate. It was started by Chris Evans, Mark Kassen, and Joe Kiani.")

So, ASP is how, even if I didn't realize that many people used ASP, lol. I am very involved in politics outside of the fandom space--generally reading and watching and educating myself, as well as attending political events on my campus and speaking to my friends about it--but my involvement doesn't come from ASP.

But, still, the president and Chris meeting, shaking hands, smiling, and laughing feels different. It's a cross-over in a way I would, honestly, rather have not happened.

Don't get me wrong, the purpose Chris was there for, with ASP, trying to get more young people engaged in voting is immensely important. Young people in the US are more likely than any other demographic to vote blue (democratic), and that is something that, with another Trump presidency (GOP/republican) on the possible horizon, is especially important. However, I wish he could've done it without shaking hands with the president. Yes, Biden is a figure head, he doesn't do much (generally and specifically at his age, sitting in the presidency). But, also, with the genocide of Palestinians going on and Biden's active, ongoing support to Israel... I don't enjoy seeing them together.

As far as age... yeah. It's the system. 🙃 If you ask me, the minimum age for being able to run for public office should be lowered (it's 35 at least for president, though, the youngest president was 42, the average age is around mid 50s at inauguration), and there should be a cap on how old you can be and still run as modern medicine continues to prolong life and technology and education provide young people with more resources.

I will admit, growing up in the US, I have absolutely been indoctrinated to see the president and feel something. When I first saw that video my reaction was just, what the fuck!? in a lighthearted, laughing manner. A cross-over, like I said previously, they don't feel like they exist in the same world, y'know? But once I thought about it for half a second longer... it felt different.

Chris can do what he likes. Obviously. I do wonder how it happened, though. Maybe it was something he was approached with by the team for ASP, like, hey, wanna meet the president? Maybe it was something that activated the same indoctrinated kid in him--they teach you young to idolize presidents, past and present--so he said yes, thoughtless. Maybe it was something he thought about and weighed the options of, thinking it would help the cause of getting young people to vote even if it would also, inevitably make people on the Internet mad (maybe rightfully so, too, shaking hands with someone with blood on their hands. As presidents do. Biden's blood is fresh enough it's dripping, though). You can't deny that it made news--Captain America and President Biden shake hands!!! That might give a spark to some younger Marvel fan, tuning in to see what's going on with politics when they otherwise wouldn't. Maybe it was something White House staff and the team for ASP worked on together and surprised Chris.

If anything, though, it reminds me of the 2016 USO tour Chris and Scarlett went on for Marvel. Like, I appreciate what they did for the individual active service members as people. So, I don't like that he agreed to do that (granted, it may have been required from Marvel, not something that he could get out of, that's unclear). I've become completely exhausted with the white center left. I'm tired and frankly, over these past four years I've come to despise them. I don't think I've ever been disappointed by a political affiliation before. I expect the fascists to have monster brained takes. I expect neocons to call any dissenting opinion about the status quo in my home country of America traitorous. But here we are. The party I supported for nearly a decade and a half, voting for them in literally every election I've ever been legally permitted to vote in from school board to president, my supposed allies even if they weren't 100% as cool as I'd like them to be; throwing a tantrum at the latest failures of electoralism and ineffective neoliberal governance, but flinging shit in the wrong direction. Four years of this after voting for the guy they told me to, even though I wasn't happy about it, and I'm done. I'm tired of it. I can't anymore y'all. They speak out of both sides of their mouths, saying in one breath that we should all set aside our differences and kingmake THEIR chosen and work together to fight the fascists and how they NEED us to save everyone (when they aren't sure they can win an election). Then in the next, sneer with contempt about how they never needed us in the first place and will win this election without the interference of the "children" who dissent to their spiral into fascism, (when they think they have the election locked up or just won one), which they either see it and love it, or are too smug to see it. They tried that in 2016. They still aren't over the sore asses they got from it, even though they're milking the loss for all it's worth, because they keep pushing absolutely atrocious candidates as if it's their "due", because Trump's existence and a post-Trump world are the only places people like that could even hope to be politically viable anymore as zero hour approaches in America. Biden and Clinton needed that scumbag to win a presidency, which is why the party gambled with him in 2020 rather than hand the nomination to Sanders, the more popular, more left candidate. They'd rather gamble with the only ones who could lose to this guy than cede the fact that the voter base has moved more left than they'd like.

"Sorry idealists but unfortunately, "not genocide" isn't on the ballot this year" isn't a fucking excuse, no matter how many times you say that to me. If it is true, fuck that ballot. If it isn't, fuck you for lying. Also, fuck you, the fuck it isn't. There are plenty of anti-genocide candidates running in this election, it just requires the bare minimum of due diligence from the electorate to find the candidates running. Claudia de la Cruz, despite being absolutely buried by pop coverage of this election to where you basically have to be told she exists or stumble upon her by accident, has what might be exactly what the left wants, or at least I do, as far as incremnetalist progress goes, and what the liberals claimed they wanted during Trump. Anti-capitalist expansion, anti-war, pro-marginalized, anti-fascism. But yet, all the pro-Biden camp has to say about her is "who?" and "oh so nobody then". What a genuinely contemptible, vile thing for a person to say.

I expect that from conservatives, but not democrats. Oh wait. And yet, leftists tired of the decades of compromise with the viper that is the center are "politically uninformed" or "unengaged/uneducated voters just doing what the tv tells them to do" because we say Biden as a president has been far worse than we anticipated and has moved to the right of Reagan and Eisenhower in terms of policing and Israel, to where it should be unteneble that he is allowed to occupy the nomination that claims to be left, as if their complete snow-blindness (and I choose that word very carefully) for candidates other than what the Democrat Party Brass feeds them is anything other than political laziness.

Liberals have shown me that for all their fluff about caring about the downtrodden, about doing what's right, it's smoke. Add a qualifier to every stance they have: "--until/unless I can justify it".

They bitch and moan about social media like TikTok as if it's a bastion of misinformation (it is, like all social media) but don't challenge hegemonic media even when they blatantly lie, and no, "just Fox" doesn't fucking count anymore, when multiple outlets have gotten their nuts nailed in scandal, ESPECIALLY regarding Israel (Not a peep when CNN literally reversed the x-axis on a graph to drum up white fear about crime that actually wasn't being reported, for example). No eyebrows raised when TikTok and only TikTok gets limitations put on it to "protect users from disinformation", when literally a few years back the founder of Facebook was getting interrogated by the state for getting caught selling personal information to the highest bidder for profit and having literally zero interest in curtailing the storm of lies being circulated by the platform.

Social media limitation without information and privacy protections and reforms is propaganda effort, simple as, and the fact that TikTok has a lot of young people, the demographic that skews the furthest left and TikTok being the platform that has been sharing most of the horrors happening in Gaza without a spin, should make people concerned when it amd only it is being targeted for "misinformation". The government is targeting the social paltform most outspokenly against what it is doing and getting its fingers into it to silence it. I don't even use TikTok, but I'm old enough to know what a damage control narrative looks like from a politician.

When the dems have, without prompting, threatened to sic the FBI on pro-Palestine protests to "investigate ties to Russia and China" that shows us that the dems are perfectly content to get authoritarian when you don't make shit easy for them. Pelosi walked that shit back, AFTER she got called out for it, but remember the old adage: "When someone tells you who they are, believe them". No one prompted that outburst from her. That's her true face. Sure she dressed it up in cute weasel words about how "they'll be subject to due process and it's just an investigation" blah blah blah, but anyone who has even a working understanding of McCarthyism amd protest strategy should tell you why you shouldn't ever EVER cooperate with that. McCarthy "just wanted to make sure" too. It just so happens that "making sure" under a hierarchical government involves being arrested, (and considering our police force, brutalized in the process) scared shitless, threatened, detained (and as long as they like to) until they've decided they can no longer politically survive the jailings/deaths. The byproduct of this rhetoric is of course you don't need to try someone as a traitor to treat them like one and kill a protest, so you get the dual benefit of authoritarianingly(?) kill a protest of your government and pretend you're a just government of the people. Don't buy it. Accusation will be enough to kill a protest stone dead if you spook enough people, because all of our lives are already dangling by a thread. It's risking enough to take time off work when a few hours of pay can determine eating or going hungry for a week for far too many people in this god-forsaken country, it's a deatb sentence to be tried as a criminal. It worked for McCarthy, don't let these milquetoast posh versions of Reaganites pull the same stunt. At least McCarthy had enough sack to be an evil bastard publicly instead of simpering when interrogated.

Good news! Trans people won't be discriminated against in hiring! (Until the EO times out because let's face it, they aren't gonna draft an amendment to enshrine that federally any time soon, and also ignoring the fact that a majority of hiring discrimintaion happens under the table and in secret, and is facilitated by at-will employment practices and allowances, AND a majority of trans-discrimination in the workplace happens after hiring, when trans people start to publicly transition where they face bullying or firings). Do nothing about the plethora of anti-trans bills worming their way through the legal system on this country, meaning the trams community has a literal ticking clock over them. (Unless they help the republicans pass them like in West Virginia). Do nothing about homelessness being a death sentence that is nearly impossible to escape or seek aid for, even though the trans community is disproportionally homeless because of bigoted families disowning them. No, they won't ever ever be allowed to go to the doctor or safely access transitionary care without a shitload of front-loaded privilege to financial stability that only some have.

We did it! Trans people saved. Now vote for us. Because we burned the black vote bridge with our vicious policing practices even after pretending to side with them during the 2020 protests, and the hispanic vote bridge with our scapegoating of them and our draconian border, migrant, and asylum policies, and the arab vote bridge with our blatant spreading of misinformation about a genocide facing their people and families. Screw the poor, black people, arab people, hispanic people (but only the brown ones, if you don't have an accent or melanin we won't be able to tell and will let you do as you please), leftists, protestors, and trans people (eventually) but we aren't gonna bite you trans people. Vote. Do it. Do it now. You don't wanna see what will happen to you if you don't. Oh no not us. Just an associate. We won't stop them if they come for you. I can't stand the sneeringly condescension if liberalism-as-default as a method to defend their position. They bite back on leftists who don't support the center as "well there's no leftist on the ballot right now. Why do you always 'pull this' during election season instead of a ground-up movement over time?? Bring me a leftist and I'll vote for him." Or my favorite, "what are YOU doing about it??" I hate this counterargument for multiple reasons. Let's have some fun with formatting and list them.

It tacitly admits that the speaker doesn't support anything for an ideological reason. They support people who can "win" neoliberal electoralism and nothing more. They care about winning. Doesn't matter who does or for what reason. They support the establishment, for better or worse.

This is also taking as read the idea that they will not support leftism in any meaningful capacity until it reaches hegemonic status, despite (or perhaps because of) it needing support from multple sources to get to that point at all. A Catch-22 from someone who is basically saying "I refuse to cooperate with you until you get me to cooperate with you and you become the default which requires me cooperating with you". They won't help the left get off the ground, even though it needs them at least out of the way to do so, but will say they will get out of the way once it does get off the ground. This is why the left says the liberals hold progressives and leftists "hostage"

It demands the left do the work of justifying and legitimizing itself to compare to THEIR chosen default, while admitting they have zero intention of doing the same. Liberalism is default. Therefore, the left has to justify itself, the liberals don't, and anyone who asks them to is being disingenuous or unfair. They demand legitimization from their opposition, and won't give it.

They are admitting they have been ignoring leftism and only pay attention during election season, because it threatens their hegemony.

They are ignoring the fact that the reason the left raises so much stink during election season is because the candidates claiming to be left and what the center champions as what leftists supposedly want have yet again slid right to win said election. The left is sounding the alarm bell as it happens. It's not the left's fault the center is choosing, yet again, to ignore it.

They're pretending that the center and right won't unite to kill the left if it ever DOES get that far, even without them (more than likely because that would include themselves in the ranks, and that's a bad look when trying to high-horse a political discussion with a leftist). This includes party formation or any sort of on-the-ground organization like protests. The left will be killed stone-dead unless the center starts putting its money where its mouth is, because the center will be the one holding the knife. They know this. They don't want you to. Ruins the surprise.

They're demanding you fix the problem they made while also refusing to compromise with you to do so. "We've done nothing and we're all put of ideas" has gone from a derogative to an accusation. Liberals have shown themselves to be painfully bad at media analysis.

It's a blatant trap to bait out organizational efforts from psy-ops to break them or infiltrate them. Chances are higher than you might think that someone asking you how you organize is a cop trying to insert operatives into the ranks to disrupt. The liberals trying to ask "well how are YOU organizing?" are doing the oppressors work for them, even if unintentional.

The demand for organization of politicial ingress into hierarchical electoralism while ignoring the truth that for organization of that level to even get off the ground requires a degree of privilege and legitimization that the left has been barred from accessing outside of violent revolution, while also quietly admitting they don't intend to give that to them unless they take it, and they will resist them taking it

5. No front number plate

I warn y'all, there have been inklings so far, but this is when this list will really start to show I have problems.

Hm. Saturation-based highlighting really doesn't work that well on white huh. Wait, let me try again.

Now that you can actually see where the front license plate was mounted from factory you don't even need an explainer on why I don't want it there do you.

Unfortunately, my definition of "perfect" also includes "legal", and being an Italian my definition of "legal" is "doing too convincing a job of seeming legal to ever get in trouble", and Italian po-po's definition of that is sporting a front plate.

So, since I am not someone who would ever consider it a smart play to achieve state persecution by refusing to plug their nose and pick a lesser evil (does it at all show I'm miffed about the very minorities republicans are openly announcing they'll target shouting they won't vote Biden because he handled Palestine exactly how republicans would? I digress.), let's go through ways to mount a front license plate on the Miata.

The front one

This indeed was how all Miata number plates were affixed from the facto- no, wait, that picture is too flattering. We need something that shows the true colors of this crime.

The sticker one

The Brits can be roasted for a whole lot of things (and will!), but one thing must be admitted: the adhesive number plate is a pretty cool idea. It gives the car a bit of a racing look, is not gonna fall off at random, and is especially cool if you have a cool, personalized number plate! Which they also allow you to have because their government doesn't implode every fucking Tuesday so, when someone proposes a law like "having custom number plates is actually fine" that makes such obvious sense you must assume the only reason it's not been the law for decades is no one at the ministry in question could even think of it over lack of any semblance of a clue about the things they are ministers of, that law can just pass, because whether a law passes can actually be determined by consensus instead of whether it managed to Indiana Jones its way into law before the government crumbles onto like it does so fucking often that my favorite artist's last two records were literally released FOUR GOVERNMENTS APART and bury it alive, quite literally because AAAAALL those common-sense automotive laws literally already passed THEY'RE LITERALLY LAW but they didn't get the implementing decree under the government that birthed them so I guess we're shit out of luck and there's nothing the following ones can do about that, not like they can worry about it themselves like the fucking government they are, no sir, tied hands. But they can outlaw foreign plates so owners of cars from Japan and America, you know, the markets where they actually make cars you can't just find here in the first place, can be forced to ditch their cool plate in favor of one that's too fucking wide or one that's too fucking tall, because nooo we can't make one that's the right siz- calm? I am calm. This is a normal amount of politics for a post about where I would mount a license plate. We were saying?

The lower mount

It blocks its mouth >:( And if you try to move it out the way it's either still not low enough...

...or so low that it becomes lower than the bottom of the bumper, which just looks a bit wrong to me?

The windshield mount

I find it a good alternative to keep the front uncluttered, but its legal status is quite controversial, with some stating the cops were fine with it , some claiming a number plate cannot be inside the cabin (but that could be solved by just making a bracket for it right in front of the windshield), and others claiming a number plate cannot obstruct view - which ultimately this solution kinda does, and who wants to see the back of their number plate when staring out the windshield anyway? I guess you could mount it to the top of the windshield (especially if you have the cool British stick-on plate) over a windshield banner, but I've always found windshield banners kinda stupid? Like, the sun visor, already one of the most laughably antiquated parts of a modern car, can block the sun and then go back up when there's no sun and now you can see out that part of the windshield again. Why would you want something that does nothing more and does it permanently?

The roof mount

I understand there is quite a lot going on here (and you've not seen its mileage!) so allow me to remind you that we are currently talking about the license plate location. Or are we talking about the number plate location? Oh no, I flip flopped between the two like the gaijin I am, didn't I.

Either way, I actually find this to be an absolutely delicious mounting location if you have auxiliary lights, a roof rack, or otherwise something going on on your roof. Which, however, I do not intend to have, so we're right back to square 1.

Hm? Oh, the mileage? 400.000kms. That's about 250k miles. Yep. Legends walk the Earth.

The offset

This is perfect. No notes. The best looking solution short of not having a plate visible at all.

...but what if you could have both?

See, there are motorized number plate holders that flip up and down, which one assumes are wired to the ignition so that the number plate is always visible when you are driving the car, and only hidden when the car is stopped so you can walk out of your car and see a completely uncluttered front end. One assumes.

But of course, these come from the bottom of the car, which we established I don't like, or from the top of the grille, which we established I don't like either...

So I came up with a solution.

See, my original idea was a motorized bracket that flips out from behind the right part of the grille, but as I started trying to sketch it up for this post I started getting doubts on it being dimensionally viable (the number plate may not fit through the grille and it may not have the room to flip given the additional components in that zone I'll go over in the interior section)... which made me consider a different approach.

See this little brake duct on the front lip at the start of this list? Well, what if it contained a little metal arm that with a toothed side that allowed a little motor to slide it forward when you turned the engine on and expose a mechanism that did something like this?

If I've not had any oversight, you should be able to route a little nylon belt through the hinge and to a pulley that spins the gear (all this being omitted for visual simplicity) which will be able to power this entire movement, including the upwards tilt thanks to the little gear tracks on the lower side which will spin the teeth on the side of the hinge. There are multiple possible locations for microswitches that turn the motor in question off once the travel is complete, or this could be accomplished in other ways on the other side of the belt.

Yeah. This is the kind of level of detail we will be dealing with.

I still literally have no plan for my life past next year.

Price estimate $100-$350 (estimates on custom parts are such wild guesses -guessing the materials and components needed atop guessing their price atop guessing the cost of fabrication atop the margin for prototyping and tools and extra unforeseen bits- that I decided to split the total estimate into the much more accurate aftermarket parts tally and the much more 'order-of-magnitude-y' custom parts estimates)

Current and best streak: 7 days (I count the days from my midnight, and I published the last post just after midnight and this just before -like, under a minute before- so even though it probably looks like a two-day gap to you it's actually technically a one day gap for me)

Miata Mod Master Mᴉsɥlᴉsʇ

[I had to spell Wishlist upside down to keep the alliteration going]

So, here's my first original post in quite a while. Apparently, the last one was a whole hundred followers ago - immense thanks to all 400 of you!!! And also, Tumblr informed me I got 1000 likes and kindly generated a picture for me to thank y'all for them with!

Given that's 2.5 likes per follower, I assume they mean 1000 likes just on my original posts, which would track considering most of my posts are additions, and liking all of those either counts towards that tally as just one like to my original post, or if you liked it through a reblog potentially nothing at all, because maybe likes to reblogs aren't counted even if they're reblogs of my own posts. But don't think I'm a numbers-chaser, this is just me wondering. Really, the only reason I even look at the activity chart of my blog is because I started trying to make that line as straight as possible for giggles (and then some of my posts blew up and ruined it, ecksdee). The thought of someone having enjoyed what I wrote has me smitten every time I see it, and I can barely even comprehend the idea that it happened a literal thousand times. I still can barely wrap my head around four hundred people all having decided they actively want to hear more from me. (Usually it's the opposite, har har.) I love all of you for it. The freaks, the puritans, the children (wait I just said that OOH GOTTEM), the adults, the uncomfortably weird, the hyper-organized users that use different blogs for each one of their passions, the hyper-random users that reblog my posts right after diaper fetish art. (And if you thought that was some whiplash, imagine the guy who followed a diaper fetish art blog getting shown me.)

But this is just me buying time, isn't it. Alright alright, let's talk about the wishlist, beginning with its premise.

This is not advice. This is not a list that makes sense at all, really - most of these items are way far down the list of things I'd do with the money they cost and/or the effort they'd take. This is a dream, where those aren't a factor. Just like some people's dream car is a ten million dollar hypercar that was built directly into the bodies of five Middle Eastern oil moguls, my dream car is a Miata with exactly these bits. (And a Seven, but I really need to stop confusing y'all with them being tied for the favorite car top spot.)

This list is based on a note I started in middle school for the fun of it (which is hopefully understood as the driving motive behind this all) and gradually updated through high school and sort of left behind after that, having kind of run out of bits to add to it. It's split into six sections:

Exterior

Interior (i.e. cabin, trunk and engine bay)

Drivetrain (i.e. anything that plays a role in making the wheels spin)

Chassis and suspension (i.e. chassis and everything that connects the wheels to it)

Electronics (i.e. electronics/microcontroller-related features)

Miscellaneous

This will be a chance for me to check the prices of all the things I listed and, at the end of it, tally up their total cost and feel feelings about its enormity. But of course, we'll need to start with a thing that was not in the note, as it was a given to me: the base car. So that will be the subject of my next addition to this post.

Because I can't make this a single post. Absolutely no chance. Even just any workaround to the image limit being about a fifth of the length of this list would be a nightmare for me to execute and for y'all to navigate. And frankly, the length of the task would make me, if not outright give up, at the very least skimp on the kind of explanations and discussions that I must assume are why you're all here. So I will need to make additions to this post (in the form of a reblog, of course) each going over one section at most. But truth be, even doing one reblog per section presents those problems, so some sections would need splitting in a number of parts. Or I could go to the other extreme and made one post per item (or when appropriate group of items), which would allow me to expand upon every which one as little or as much as appropriate while still keeping a tidy presentation. But to do this I would need to hide all the information bar the name under a Read More, because if I put as little as one picture before it by the time I'm at the end of the list every time this post appears in your dash you'll have to scroll past some hundred pictures to get to the bottom of it; also, of course, this would mean this post showing up in your dash upwards of a hundred times - though of course you could just ignore it a bunch of times and when you feel like it go through all the parts you've not read yet at once.

Right now I'm leaning towards the one post per item approach, which would allow me to work towards the completion of this abomination in small daily steps rather than in age-long parts which would also help addressing your other submissions. But it's very hard for me to figure out what y'all would prefer, as it's kind of hard for me to figure out who would actually want to read through the entirety of this. So, y'all are welcome to leave your feedback in the replies or through this non-binding format poll.

In fact a lot of what you are acting like is just a dem issue is more like a systemic issue with the united states, becuase this country is rotten to the core.

And while I mourn for the people abroad my government is murdering or helping to murder, I know I personally don't have the power to change that. But I can at the very least vote for the party who seems to be trying even a little to make the lives of people here better. While others who can do the more systemic stuff that will effect real change. "vote blue no matter who" is literally just "put the oxygen mask on yourself before helping others" while people try to keep this burning trash fire of a plane from going down.

But you're right I have very very insulated from most things wrong with this country. That doesn't mean I can't see how shit it is for people I care about who aren't as well protected as me, that doesn't mean I don't care about them.

And it's so rude of you to assume that just because my life has gone a certain way I'm devoid of empathy. And naive to think that people who have suffered because of this shitty countries shitty policies share you're same beliefs. Like a person I know who works minimum wage and can barely afford rent and complains about needing 2 jobs, but who is still very much a republican. Because shit isn't simple, and there are no morally pure ways to engage in this rotten countries politics, there is only harm mitigation.
