Finally finished reading this civil war book and really, in general, it’s fun to see how four women’s lives intersected during one major event and how they worked against each other or with each other at any given time. That’s fun! But also, the standout gal is Elizabeth van lew. It makes me feel sorry for the other girls (except for Belle who is an idiot twerp) because like. She literally ran a whole fucking spy ring in Richmond, the capital of the confederacy, right where the fucking confederate President was. Like. How can you compete with that?

And then you find out afterwards she was made postmaster? And hired multiple women and black postal clerks? And sponsored libraries and spoke out about rigged voting in the south???? How can you compete???????????
