What Matters Most
when we are obsessed about people working on specific standards for personal purity, i think we sound a lot like we’re teaching folks to be the man in the parable who had only one talent and buried it.
turning outward and helping others? ministering to and welcoming and serving all of God’s children? that sounds a lot like the person in the parable who had five talents and gained another five on top of that.
would Jesus ask the church today if we were focusing too much on the small things? the wrong things?
“Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” Matthew 25:40

rewatched madoka magica again today bc i fucking hate myself and to absolutely no one’s surprise i went through all five stages of grief in a single evening
#let’s talk about sayaka miki for a second#genuinely the fact that her whole character is centered around tragedy almost to a shakespearean extent#she’s selfless and brave and values her justice and righteousness above all. calls herself an ally of justice#in fact i think it’s rather intriguing how her whole character is centered around “justice”#her story being a more twisted retelling of the original little mermaid#how she is initially portrayed as a very heroic and confident character even before becoming a magical girl. always shielding madoka#selling her soul to heal the boy she loved out of a selfless desire to see him well again#her being absolutely distraught abt being robbed of her humanity and betrayed by kyubey#she combats this harrowing realization by immersing herself in her duties not caring that she is slowly deteriorating in the process#becoming numb with pain and fighting recklessly and psychotically trying to drown out the pain#finally coming to the sickening conclusion that humanity doesn’t deserve her saving and she succumbs to a fate of her making#last words being “i was so stupid” which trumps her previous statement of “there’s no way i’d regret this”#ALSO? the fact that her costume and weapon are symbolic of a knight. she rly portrays this hero of justice who will protect and defend ☹️#i think abt the fact that homura said that sayaka’s wish was so selfless it was only a matter of time before she died#sayaka being the example of what happens to magical girls who go through the entire cycle and eventually become witches is so sad to me#genuinely just like. sick and twisted#very very fucked up.#characters who have their own misconstrued interpretation of “justice” or who are centered around justice in general.#you will always be dear to me.#sayaka reminds me a lot of akechi in some ways ngl#harboring an almost idealized vision of justice but it slowly rots and festers and corrupts their hearts the more immersed w it they become#actually losing their sanity when they fight bc of how much pain they’re in but refuse to acknowledge it until they break#refusing any help and wallowing in misery despite having ppl who love them and want to save them#last words are those expressing regret for being such a fool. for being ignoring#being used by yhe main villain as a stepping stone towards their true goal. they were merely a pawn#also doomed in every version of their reality. always doomed by the narrative no matter what choices they make#i have a type i fear#HAHAHAH ALSO the fact that they’re both dressed so regally compared to everyone else in their respective series#meant to portray them in a virtuous and princely light. only made more apparent by the sword being their weapon of choice#i’m gonna shut up now but they’re soo eerily similar its unnerving tbh 💀

I know it shouldn't surprise me, but it's frustrating af to step outside the fandom and read about OFMD's cancellation on more general entertainment sites and see the majority of reactions be along the lines of "oh well it was probably Taika being over it, he always gave me the ick anyway so, whatever," and then often devolving into comments about his personal life, or conspiracy theories that can be disproven if you use your brains for 30 seconds or maybe step outside and touch grass idk idk.
And this isn't me saying "omg how could you dislike Taika" bc truly unless you're being racist or antisemitic (which, let's be real, many are), I don't give a fuck what you think about him.
But the point remains that if you have a show that is all about celebrating queer joy and finding yourself later in life, that has a diverse cast of characters in terms of race, ethnicity, sexuality, and body type, that was WRITTEN by a diverse group of writers, that is receiving praise from critics and fans alike, that from all reports was one of Max's most successful shows despite them doing next to no promotion the first season, that had two successful seasons and the creator is on the record saying he had a plan to tell the entire story in three, and it gets CANCELED.
I don't give a fuck how you feel about Taika, or how you feel about OFMD. You SHOULD be concerned about that. Because your show is next.
And before you come at me with "it's just a show, have you seen what's happening in the world?" Yeah. I fucking have. And the arts matter. They have always mattered. It's how we've shared stories and fostered communities and passed down what's important to us as a society. And they've brought us joy. And I don't know about you, but I think we could all do with a fuckton more joy in our lives.
This is absolutely a huge loss, and unfortunately it's not going to be the last as streaming services continue to go deeper in crisis. If that doesn't concern you, idk, go enjoy yourself watching season 47 of The Bachelor.

The biggest tragedy of Jayce's raid on the shimmer refinery wasn't just that he killed Renni's son, it's that that kid died slowly without any sort of comfort or aid. That boy was alive and wheezing by the time when Jayce and Vi slowly (kind of reluctantly) made it down to the ground floor and was still alive enough for Jayce to look directly at him as the light left his eyes.
Tumblr media
What's worse is that he died surrounded by shimmer, a single drop could have saved his life! Anybody at the refinery that could have helped him, even in theory, was held at gunpoint by the Enforcers Jayce and Vi brought and could only watch him die. And then his body's just left there for his mom, Renni, to see. This boy was the kid that pulled the alarm on the Enforcers in the first place, he absolutely knew why shimmer was so important to their operation and once Piotover got involved he's deprived of it's aid.

not to be petty or bemoan what should be a ostensibly ignored talking point but it is kind of ridiculous that so many of the anti-tommy people (mostly on twitter) harp on about how they don’t find lou to be attractive (to paraphrase some of the gentler sentiments passed around).
which, fine, YOU don’t have to find him attractive. that’s your prerogative! but your favorite tv character does find him attractive, which is what….matters. it feels indicative of a larger issue that….shipping folks need both sides of their ship to be CW-looking men. non-threatening with gentler features, model-tuned and effete. in the larger scheme of things, lou is VERY attractive. but when it comes to shipping fictional characters, they need to have softer, more affable features — almost like they need to appeal purely to a certain subsection of the female gaze! which is ridiculous.
lou is a man, LOOKS like a traditionally masculine man. which is part of the reason buck likes tommy so much. which is not to say that any other actor isn’t that (traditionally masculine, esp while playing a gay character) but once it breaches outside their accepted barriers of what a….shippable man should look like, it comes off as spiteful and childish, and ultimately, a deviation of what the “aesthetically pleasing” presentation of what a gay couple should look like. I don’t know lmfao i’m just really peeved at the people going after lou’s looks.

genuinely adore the number of people in the early s1 era who believed Daniel had been "straight washed" because he--a guy born and raised in the fifties btw--half-heartedly said in a semi-professional setting that he was straight, using the most flimsy excuse imaginable for being at a gay bar, in a conversation/general interview dealing heavily with the repression of queer/deviant instincts. did people forget the concept of being closeted. or the concept of bisexuality. did people assume that you could only actually get drugs in gay bars during the 70s. I love you guys please never change.

last month i saw people joking about sasuke and naruto saying that they weren't end game and married woman bacause like some gambling debit idk
and then some random guy was like really really pissed of trying to argue that sasuke is indeed straight and he was like really deep into that and it was actually a little horrifying
in sumary: everyone started mocking this guy saying thats really gay of him trying to defend some FICTIONAL CHARACTERs sexuality
Maybe I’m the ‘friend who’s too woke’ or whatever people are saying right now, but I HATE it SO MUCH when people are like “omggg haha this guy’s violently homophobic and aggressively against queer people. It’s because he’s GAY!!! isn’t that hilarious? the idea of someone being gay? sooo funny!!!”
Like you’re not defending gay people at all.
“But it’s an insult to him, so I’m allowed to say it because he’d find it insulting!!!”
You are showing them that queerness is as much an insult to you as it is to them.
If you said that JK Rowling looked like a trans woman, the underlying insult to her is that you think she looks like a man, AND that you think that trans women look like men. So to her, she would see it as you agreeing with her transphobic opinions. (Kinda weird example, but it’s the first thing that I thought of.)
It’s like when Jason Kelce yelled at that guy for using the f slur… Oh wait, he actually just got mad at the person for implying that Travis (his brother) was gay, and Jason Kelce immediately called the guy who said it the f slur back. That’s not allyship, despite what people on the internet try to tell you.

the take that we shouldn’t consider AB a feminist (and yes, that’s an anachronism, fwiw) because she was unpopular amongst women in her time is… very strange. like, that is not the thermometer by which to judge whether a woman or, really anything, was feminist (whether or not the person or whatever is well-beloved or popular amongst women… if it were, the real housewives franchise could be considered a feminist entity)

yeah Kisara was a self-banished wanderer, guilt ridden and afraid of her dragon but also like. who made the dragon. lol. theres always ALWAYS this quiet rage and grief, which claws at her skin trying to escape, just barely kept down at any given moment, and when her loyalty, therefore the dragons loyalty is bound to Seto there is not only no guilt, she surrendered completely, theres also relief and satisfaction. is he her enabler or is she his enabler trick question the answer is yes both

Shabbat shalom, y'all -- my heart goes out to my Palestinian family who have been hit hard by the continued slaughter in Gaza, and have been pouring their hearts out doing advocacy on the local radio here, taking part in marches, and doing fundraising.
It's hard to see people framing anyone who shows sympathy for the Gazans being slaughtered as antisemites, especially as a Jew who wants the slaughter of my cousins to end.
I hope that the violence ends as soon as possible, please support your Palestinian friends and neighbors and support your Jewish friends who are against the illegal collective punishment being done to Palestinians in the name of retribution for the awful attack by Hamas
Pikuach nefesh, human life before all else. What we need more than anything right now is compassion and mutual aid for our Gazan friends in this time
I didn't want to drop 50 links so heres Vogue, of all publications, with a solid list if you want to help

I don't see nearly enough discussion about the fact that the web of intrigue that leads Caitlyn to Jinx has shadowed her eye in the same way Silco's own has been scarred over. It's the same side too!

if either oakheart or crookedstar were girls when oak called out crooked for ignoring silverkit in his grief after the deaths of willowbreeze and her other kits, the fandom would tear the girl version of either character to shreds

talking to people online is like
me: "yeah i really like the murder manga, the one with cannibalism, the one where the mother commits atrocities and its like a mystery-"
idiot who had never read a real book: "yeah i love that one it's so messed up and interesting"
me: "-the bullying flower one and also the age gap/incest romance one"
idiot: "you should fucking kill yourself that's child porn/grooming material/etc"
meanwhile i have books from the last two centuries on my shelf that cover all these topics and more into way more detail that no one seems to view as "immoral."
by the way if you view some books as immoral and needing destroyed, you're a fascist! google Bücherverbrennung. if you think some topics are only for "degenerates" or call people that, guess what! i think you get the point.
