Just saw a post on my dash claiming you're a terf psyop because some terf on Twitter has the same username as you. I just wanted to warn you in case you haven't seen it yourself. Obviously that is not me. Mostly because I am not in fact a TERF (or from the UK). I chose "genderkoolaid" to be ironic because transphobes use that phrase.

She seems to have developed an entire conspiracy theory around transandrophobia in which she starts with the idea that everyone who talks about it is a secret TERF, and works backwards to twist anything anyone ever says into being proof of her conspiracy:

Anyone can find the worst posts in the transandrophobia tag and use it as proof the whole thing is transmisognistic, because obviously transmisogyny remains a widespread problem and no space or group is exempt. But she doesn't even use those, really. Any post that talks about how transmascs suffer from misogyny, or just suffer in general, is apparently saying trans men are women and should detransition.

It's wild that she seems to understand that radical feminism relies on this man bad/woman good binary, AND that TERFs target trans men for conversion therapy, but does not seem to understand that... this is not that?

Happy Holidays from Silmkinkmeme!

Belated, but still, happy holidays and thank you all for the amazing year. Let's see how we did in 2024.

The kinkmeme's Ao3 collection has 436 prompts at the moment, almost double the previous year's number. There are 192 works in the collection (some works were not posted to the collection, so the actual number is even higher), which means around 70(!) fics were written for the kinkmeme only in 2024. Our Prompt Post 1 has surpassed 1000 comments last year and now boasts 1114.

And now a stat that only the mod can see - the number of claims on Ao3. *drumroll* We have 590 CLAIMS, more claims than prompts, way more than we had this time last year (171). Of course, not all of these claims will become fills, but the number is still astonishing compared to 2024.

As you might know from previous posts, starting February, I will begin promoting prompts from 2022 on this blog. At some point during the year, I will also open a new collection because I can't keep making backup accounts to crosspost prompts and because it's been almost three years. Stay tuned for more info!

Once again, my thanks to every single person who has contributed to kinkmeme in any way. I hope to see you again this year.

Explicit works still form the greatest part of kinkmeme fills (114) while fandom leader Gen is only in the fourth place with 19 works.

Kinkmeme warnings mostly align with the general fandom (No Archive Warnings, followed by Chose Not To Warn), except apparently kinkmeme writers aren't fans of Major Character Death, which is in the fifth place in the kinkmeme and in the third in the Silmarillion tag. No Underage tag in the kinkmeme.

The Gen category is unsurprisingly in the first place for the general fandom, while M/M leads kinkmeme (97 works) with Gen only in the third place (30 works). F/M is the second with 47 works and F/F shares the fourth place with Multi (20 works each).

In 2024, we had two Rings of Power fills! We also had two interesting crossovers - Chronicles of Narnia and Pride and Prejudice.

No surprises in the leading character. Maedhros is and will most likely remain a fan favorite in the kinkmeme and the fandom in general. He's appeared in 86 works. Maglor sits firmly in the second place with 68. (There's a joke about these numbers somewhere.) Now the third place is Fingon's in the kinkmeme (44 works) unlike the general tag where he is the fourth and Elrond who is only the tenth in the kinkmeme is the third. Finrod who is placed tenth in the general tag is the fourth in the kinkmeme (23 works). Kinkmeme writers continue ignoring Sauron, Celebrimbor and Glorfindel who are respectively numbers five, eight and nine in the general tag. Instead, we have Curufin, Aredhel and Fingolfin in the top ten. Unfortunately, Aredhel is the only woman left while last year there were four ladies among the most popular characters. It's still one more than the general fandom.

It was probably inevitable as the kinkmeme got more popular, but Fingon/Maedhros is now leading the top ten (34 works) in the relationship tag. Last year's leader Maedhros/Maglor is now in the second place (26 works). I'd still count it as a win because the ship doesn't appear in the general fandom's top ten at all. Now Maedhros & Maglor is in the fourth place in the general tag and in the kinkmeme (last year, the gen version of their relationship wasn't in the kinkmeme's top ten). Feanor/Nerdanel is steadily the third in both places. Morgoth/Sauron, Erestor/Glorfindel, Celebrian/Elrond. Celebrimbor/Sauron, Feanor/Fingolfin and Elrond & Maglor, all very popular in the general fandom (Angbang is in the second place after Russingon), are absent from the kinkmeme's top ten. Instead we have Galadriel/Melian, Galadriel/Luthien (no femslash fics in the general top ten), Elrond & Elros and Fingon/Maglor (new to the top ten!).

As for the additional tags, we start from Anal Sex (30 works) and end with Cunnilingus (9 works), making stops at PWP, Oral Sex, Sibling Incest, First Time and Dubious Consent. No Fluff, Humor or Grief/Mourning for the kinkmeme and not even AU, all in the general top ten. But Angst and Hurt/Comfort are of course among the most popular tags in the kinkmeme and in the general fandom. Angst is still the most popular in the general tag and third in the kinkmeme. No sex-related tags in the general fandom's top ten, while seven of top ten additional tags in the kinkmeme are E-rated.

So, for the time being, I pretty much dominate the #alternate jewish history tag. By which I mean, all posts under this tag are ones I either wrote or reblogged. This is, of course, meaningless. Even so, I intend to take care of this little corner of my supposed kingdom, though invaders are fully invited. Please, it would be my pleasure if you add to this tag.

Either way, this tag currently has three AUs. As the purported owner of this tag, I intend to list them - while tagging the original creator when necessary.

The first AU is going to be the one I conceived of, naturally, since there can be no ownership disputations of it: the Jewsade.

The Jewsade is an AU based on the historical divergence of His Dark Materials. However, it's an AU worth exploring for its own merit IMO. Its divergence point is around the 1520s, with the Jewish false Messiah David Reubeni and Shəlomoh Molcho. In our world those two ended up eventually killed by the Spanish Inquisition; in the world of the Jewsade, they succeeded in getting the artillery David was trying to obtain and used it to conquer Eretz Yisra'el from the Ottomans. What happened with it later? Currently it's a riddle I can't answer, possibilities range from a disaster by the hands of the Ottoman Empire or Portugal to the continued existence of a Jewish kingdom in the Middle East, barely holding its own against both Christians and Muslims who want to take the Holy Land to themselves. Exploration of it is still at work, and I'm considering presenting it in random documents of various sorts from the period. It doesn't currently have a clear masterpost, I might work on that in the future.

The second AU I've put under this tag belongs to @aviad1b. This is the Hasmonean independence AU. It's not too well-built as of yet (and might also be related to the next AU, we'll see), but the basics are: the Hasmoneans don't give up their independence to the Romans and remain a kingdom for longer. This is a bit of a hard feat, because the Hasmoneans were sort of allies to the Romans even prior to that and the civil war is what caused them to turn to a passing Roman general to solve the dispute. After you avoid that... well, the Hasmonean dynasty still needs to keep its independence between the ever-greedy Rome and the rising Perthian empire, which is not going to be easy by any means. Even if they manage surviving one civil war... well, there will be others. However, it might be interesting to picture them somehow still prevailing, despite all the odds.

The third and more recent addition comes from @magnetothemagnificent's idea of a world where the 2nd Temple was never destroyed, the 2nd Temple Still Standing AU as I chose to call it, if you have different suggestions I'm open to hear them. A lot of the discussion on it includes the note of how much we don't know what the world will look like. Christianity might not exist, or be way smaller. The Jewish Diaspora would be way smaller adn would be mostly merchants. New technologies would be applied to old traditions and sometimes adjusted to them - the beacons to indicate the start of the month will stay, but their role would be fulfilled more with modern communication technology; flights to Eretz Yisra'el will commonly have space for cattle for the Korbanot; Cohanim would dominate the field of dermatology in order to be experts on Tzara`at, some working in construction (and some with textiles?) for the other types of it as well; religious institutions will be vastly different, with structures from 2 milennia ago surviving to the Modern Day in some form; Levyim maybe being dominant in fields of music and poetry; maybe melodies used for written texts in the place of punctuation; no written Mishnah or Talmud, things are mostly kept oral; and a lot more stuff.

There's the question, with that latter AU, of how that might happen. No rebellion against the Romans might be a possibility, though a bit hard to pull up. The Hasmonean Dynasty retaining independence can help, hence the reference I've made earlier. The Great Rebellion could also (maybe) fail before it escalated to the level of besiegeing Jerusalem. I really don't know. And unless you go by the "History is a rubber band" theory of time travel, there really isn't any way to know. So I suppose we should all just think about it a little more, and making stuff up can work, as long as you keep an eye on historical events.

Now, you might accuse me of certain hautiness in writing this. Please don't. Believe me when I say, I'm just enthusiastic about alternative Jewish histories, and would like to popularize the use of that tag. I would really like seeing farther AUs based on Jewish history - I had the pleasure to encounter a couple on Facebook, following a workshop on writing alternate Hannukahs in a meet-up organized by a group of interest on Jewish Fantasy in Israel. But there can be many more, and while I would love to contribute where I can and where my help is wanted, I prefer not to start any more than the one I'm already working on. genuinely, how do you write for yourself fully?

while i write for myself and post what i want etc. i always get suck on feeling kinda sad afterwards cause i barely get any interactions on tumblr, which i suppose isn’t that bad, but the 50/60 hits on ao3 and only like 5 kudos make me sad. i truly don’t think my writing is awful, like it’s a work in progress especially since english isn’t my native language, but i just always find myself a bit discouraged.

i feel you, anon. it’s rough out there. and it feels so random. like sure i have worked hard on developing my writing the past few years and on kind of building an audience, but i recognise there was also a whole lot of luck involved and i still remember what it was like to receive very little kudos and feeling sad and discouraged. (i will say the feelings of self doubt etc might never fully leave, but that’s a different matter altogether).

i’ll say this: ‘write for yourself’ as a slogan is an empty one if you fully think about it. the only person who truly writes for themself is the one who never publishes (and even they might entertain some kafka fantasies of being discovered after death). the core of ‘write for yourself’ however holds some truth: if you get joy from the act of writing more than the act of receiving positive feedback, you are invincible. if you write what you want to read, and you can look back on your progress? that’s a reason to be proud of yourself, no matter how much engagement you got. you created something out of nothing, you put something out in the world that nobody had put out there before. amazing, right?

but this is fandom. it’s all about engaging, and i don’t mean that in an annoying content creatory way but as a way of human connection. a part of the joy of sharing your art, for free, is making that connection. getting that comment, that kind tumblr reblog. it’s not shameful to admit you like compliments. every fanfic author has a praise kink.

both are true: we write for ourselves and for others. we live in a society etc

now that that’s out of the way, here are my thoughts on getting more readers, more comments, more kudos, and more reblogs — which i think is the core issue of your ask.

to start quite generally: there’s been a decline in reblogging fanworks - including fics - on tumblr, and i think we bear a collective responsibility here to make this a reblogging website again.

and of course your ao3 statistics depend on how big your fandom (still) is. on how good you tag your works, too, because that’s how a lot of readers find fics. on how good a summary you write, on how popular certain tropes or pairings are that you’re into, if you use a sufficient amount of paragraphs for easier reading etc.

also, you say your native language isn’t english? neither is mine. i found it helpful to work with beta readers, some of whom have now become close friends. they improved my english and the content of my fics, and we boost each other’s works. win-win.

i’ll give you the advice i was given a few fandoms ago: engage, too. by leaving comments on other writers’ works, you can build friendships and might get them to click your ao3 name too. by joining discords and reading the fics of the writers there, or by reading a tumblrina’s fic and reblogging it with kind tags, or by signing up for a bang, by writing holiday themed fics if that inspires you, or a fic inspired by an artwork, … basically, by engaging in fandom and making friends and having fun, but also: leaving comments will sometimes mean getting comments in return, too.

to be clear i’m not saying ‘engage with other fans to get comments’. no. engage to experience the absolute joy of fandom, and more kudos / comments / reblogs etc might become a fun side effect.

i didn't get further into the other Trix because i focused more on Stormy but this is actually such an interesting thing about them as a group. because they really don't go along all too well with the image witches are clearly held to and associated with in universe

because there clearly is a general style going on at cloudtower/with witches in general. which is very defined by darker colours. and also much more muted colours when compared to fairies

also more tight/well fitting outfits as well, dresses don't flow, sleeves aren't pronounced etc. in the same vein, details are usually cut outs instead of excess fabric in contrast to what fairies tend to have going on. as well as a general trend towards more pointy and angular fits. be it cut outs or necklines or jackets etc. boots, especially pointy ones, are also Extremely common, compared to fairies who generally tend to wear sandal heels

obviously there's always some exceptions or characters playing around with the basic ideas of it (like Mirta wearing white as an accent colour, someone wearing a stronger colour here or there, and so on), but this is a pretty consistent line they stuck to when designing the witches

even Mirta who later becomes a fairy is dressed like a witch and stays like that even at Alfea. even her fairy from has the muted witch colours to it btw

point of the matter being that, yeah. the Trix all kind of don't fuck with witch fashion apparently all in different ways and to varying degrees

totally agree with you Darcy still blends the best in crowds. like the true chameleon she is i guess. she's got lots of desaturated purple, she's got some angles in there with her triangle shaped top. she's also the only one of the Trix who actually wears the pretty wide spread pointy witch boots. the thing that just makes her stand out immediately is that she's seemingly an entire fashion cycle behind everyone else who's dressed pretty trendy 2000s. meanwhile Darcy is rocking that 70s hippie look with her tiny sunglasses and bootcut pants. mind you, she makes it work really well. low cut pants for example were in both times, so it blends with the 00s look around her better than you'd expect

Stormy has her whole thing going on. she actually does okay colour wise at least with a darker, slightly desaturated redish pink. but then it's her actual style that's wildly unusual for the witches. which just comes back to the all of it i already mentioned. lose and wrapped fabric, ribbons, open summer shoes. pretty much the opposite to the general witch style the series establishes. so on first glance, colour-wise, it works. it's just when you look at what she's actually wearing that it's just kind of inappropriate for cloudtower in general

and then Icy is maybe equally bold by going for brightly coloured light blue. and she's kind of doing the opposite of Stormy, because what she's wearing is actually pretty alright for the witch look. everything is pretty tight, she's got a pronounced belt, there's a lot of edges there with her collared top. even the boots are fine (even if they're not pointy). so the decision to have that perfectly trendy witch fit in the lightest blue possible is kind of ridiculous of her. and the thing is it's not even desaturated properly, especially her skirt. which really all witch outfits are. the shade of blue she wears is a shade Bloom occasionally matches exactly

and i mean it looks great on her. i would understand why she'd wear it. but still a bit bizarre choice on her part. because Icy's whole colour palette is really bright to begin with given the white blue hair. and in her witch outfit it's contrasted by the very dark blue, but in civilian the brightness of it is even more empathized with the other light colours

and all of those fashion choices are one thing, but when one of the main established personality traits of the Trix is their fixation on their 'evil witch' image it starts getting even more questionable. they openly mock and despise the fairies, sure, but it extends even further, they're fully committed to the 'anything positive or nice is disgusting fairy bullshit miss me with that' bit. which ranges from general aesthetics to behaviours to the literal feeling of positivity. like they're committed committed to the 'i'm an evil witch' act

so the fact that they still make active fashion decisions that go against that reading is fascinating. Darcy looks like she's in the wrong decade, Stormy at least telegraphs as a witch colour wise even if her actual outfit doesn't do that at all, and then Icy is just, well, so so bright

actually imagining Icy in those cloudtower classes we see is a bit ridiculous, she has to stand out SO much. (which she probably likes lets be real. she's styling her hair to be a head taller than everyone else she's into having eyes drawn to her in crowds for sure)

they're just kind of interesting as a group. all of that also comes with the implication that they actually just aren't into the witch fashion trend as much as they'd like to cling to the evil witch image. to a point they're not even willing to compromise for the sake of their image and just do it anyway. so they're basically freestyling their personal style

which really, they're more able to do that than anyone else at cloudtower for sure. clearly no one is going to mess with them, half the school is terrified of them and the other idolizes them. Griffin calls them her top students and they could all absolutely hurt (kill) someone with their powers even as students. which as a viewer we're kind of used to, but in comparison to other witches they're clearly on a different level with how ruthless and strong they are, even in s1, and their classmates Know that

the only thing i'd actually be curious about is what their early years at cloudtower looked like in that regard Before they got their reputation. because if they always dressed like that you really have to respect the stubbornness to go to cloudtower for years and never give in and change your ill fitting colour scheme or clothing preferences. like, there would have to have been some comments, right

either says a lot about their ability to not give a fuck about what others think or about them being able to stand their ground right off the bat and getting that boarding school respect in their first few months there

so yeah. tldr is that the Trix dress really weird from an in universe perspective. all of them. and all in different ways. they're kind of perfect for each other, even in that aspect 😭

when it comes to the Trix's looks the general fandom interpretation that Stormy is the least feminine style wise out of the Trix continues to baffle me. because there's a lot of things canon is very vague about, but this is one of the few instances where canon is doing the exact opposite and Yet it's still such a common interpretation

to be fair, i think people tend to take her more abrasive louder personality and then draw from it that she should also be the most practically and sporty dress wise in the group and so on

and as a hc it's whatever, it's just really one of those instances where it's clearly the opposite in canon and people seem to genuinely gloss over it, when it's arguably such a funny aspect of her character

Darcy is the one that's always dressed the most practical on top of her hippy inspired fit. she's the only one wearing pants, both in her witch and civillian outfit. (she also knows how to ride a hoverbike for some unexplained reason. which the winx had to slowly learn in s3. some not elaborated skill going on here)

Icy's style moves closer to the preppy, formal ranges, with her collared top - tight skirt - high boots look. the tied back (up) hair also helps. and also the cape. she's got a cape in her witch form, can't stress enough how much of a fashion choice that is on her part

and Stormy's look is just giving summer party. like, it is. you've got a lot of flowy and wrapped fabric, and her open heels (which are a statement piece when your entire power is wind and storms and you're signature fighting style consists of rain, lightning, and tornadoes)

out of them Stormy is dressed the most feminine And impractical at all times. ranging from being completely committed to skirts/dresses to preferring the party club look when her whole bit is hostile weather

actually, it's not even just a Trix thing i think Stormy i just genuinely dressed kind of not occasion appropriate even for a witch in general

this is apparently the general cloudtower/witch fashion

and Stormy pulls up to the wannabe goth convention with her breezy, flowy summer fit with ribbons both on her skirt, top, And on her open toed summer heels. those especially are kind of a bizarre choice on her part, since the predominant fashion trend seems to be boots, ideally pointy. kind of a mix between what Icy and Darcy are wearing. absolutely no one is wearing sandals or even open heels, style wise they're much closer to something Stella or Flora tend to go for even

Stormy is just fully committed to her sunny weather fit which i kind of have to respect

but i'm also mildly intrigued about the why of it? is that her genuine style preference and she just gives absolutely no fucks about what's in or expected witch fashion in general? or is the perpetual good weather fit some inside joke to her with her powers literally being 'bad' weather?

logistically in universe though, would there be some line you shouldn't cross with how much your shoes can look like you bought them from the same store Stella goes to? especially with how image focused and competitive the cloudtower environment seems to be. or would her style just read as completely out of fashion at cloudtower and this is just current fashion trends? we'd never find out because even if people Would have thoughts about it they would definitely not be voicing it to a senior classmate that's one of Griffins top students and can summon actual tornadoes. at that point you rally could just do whatever you wanted (which, i mean the Trix already do that)

the take away just ends up being that Stormy clearly doesn't care about a) expected witch fashion, and/or b) what's weather appropriate. and yeah, does fit her character, i think she really would just do whatever she wanted and if that's the ribboned summer shoes that's what it is

(also, sure the flowy ribbons are a kind of funny fashion choice for her, but also, given how wind makes up almost half her powers, they're kind of a good one. those have to be so fun when you're walking or flying around and wind is blowing them everywhere. i get her)

Desa is about set off on a trip to complete her first task for Aei Deive, who Desa has spent nearly her entire life worshipping as a god. She'll be traveling to the village Tionsal on the island Ansala, where Aei Deive grew up.

Earlier in the day, Desa spoke to Siell (the noblewoman her family has served for generations) and Tirann (her mentor as an assassin) and both of them expressed disapproval over her choice to leave, even though it's not for long. She doesn't understand why they oppose it, given that she is performing Aei Deive's will, and they have always encouraged her faith (though they themselves were never terribly devout). So when she goes to the Sun Palace to meet with Aei Deive, it feels almost like she's betraying them.

During their meeting together, Aei Deive gives Desa a letter, which is to be given to the innkeeper in Tionsal. It also tells Desa something she doesn't feel at all worthy of knowing: Its given name, Iryna. Aei Deive's given name is a sacred and well-protected secret, so to know it is a great honor which Desa does not think she's earned.

Still, after all of this, Aei Deive has more to give. It shows Desa two earrings, both engraved with writing in a language she does not know, but does recognize. It's the god-tongue, which is known only by Aei Deive Itself, the Sehrats (the sun-touched magicians of the throne), and the Fragments of Lonn (Eyra's highest religious authorities). Aei Deive tells Desa that It personally wrote spells of protection on the earrings, and if she wears them, she will carry the gods' blessings.

Then It removes the earrings Desa has been wearing and replaces them with these ones. Desa is not oblivious to the fact that this contact means that she is sun-touched, and as such, is held in honor before the gods. Aei Deive cups Desa's cheek and stares into her eyes for a long time.

Finally, It wishes Desa well on her journey and dismisses her.

Firstly YES it's gay. It's so so gay even if neither of them is ready to admit it. A contender for the Most Gayest Scene in their story indeed. Tam these tags made me laugh so much, thank you <3

And secondly YES AGAIN!! Wren you know Desa so well, everything about what you said had me going like "YES! YES! EXACTLY!! YES!!!!" She never expected to receive anything for her devotion to her gods, but this moment - and everything that led to it - is like tangible proof that they recognize her efforts! And even though she doesn't think she's worthy of it, she knows that Aei Deive's judgement must be accurate. And this is the hardest it has ever ever been for her to believe that her god is correct! She simply cannot imagine that she could be that important. And oh my GODDDD yes - as time moves on, and Iryna becomes important to Desa not only as a god but also simply as a person, it becomes easier and easier to believe that the gods love her. And Desa would do ANYTHING to repay that

I also want to talk really quick (or really long) about the vaiya! They are the little stars you see here, but they feature in a few of my other drawings as well. I don't think I've ever talked about them!

Vaiya are believed to be the eyes of the gods. I've talked about how fire is one of the conduits through which the gods are able to view the mortal world, but they're not the only conduit!! Firstly are the sun and the moons. The sun was given to humans by the gods as a gift. It gives them light and life, and gives them a connection to their deities. All flame comes from the sun, which is why fire is holy. The four moons are gods, elevated from mortality to a place in the heavens for their righteous actions in life (this is very different from most gods, who are entirely separate and distinct beings from humans, and who occasionally descend to the world to fill the role of Aei Deive). They watch over mortals in the night, in conjunction with the stars - which you may notice vaiya look a great deal like! And that is not a coincidence!

The first moon to appear in the sky was Tarest, which is the largest and brightest of Rastra's moons, and is where vaiya come from. It's why it glows so bright; the stars dwell there. Shooting stars are believed to be vaiya descending to world to watch over its inhabitants. I've talked a bit about the different orders of the moons in the tags of a different post that I'm too lazy to find atm, but the members of the Order of Tarest are called watchers. That name and role stems directly from the fact that Tarest is the home of the eyes of the gods :)

So anyway... vaiya aren't a super uncommon sight, but they're still very sacred. Especially for more than one to be near at any given time is a sign that the gods are paying attention. They appear everywhere, but are most common near sun-touched people. They flock to Aei Deive (because the gods keep eyes on any of their own), but also give special attention to Sehrats, nobility, etc.

Desa really really loves the vaiya. She's always had a fascination with their beauty, and how looking at them feels like glimpsing into the incomprehensible splendor of the heavens. Any time they appear near her, she feels seen by the gods - which is a feeling she really enjoys.

Any time she's around Aei Deive, the amount of vaiya near feels somewhat surreal. To know that the gods are not only watching, but that they have a vested interest in what happens near Aei Deive, is quite an assurance. And it maybe makes Desa a little extra worried about any mistakes she might make. (Which, like.... just imagine how iryna feels lmao)

So this scene, feeling seen so deeply not only by Aei Deive but also by the vaiya, is very impactful for Desa.

I could go on and on lore dumping forever (there is little i enjoy more than talking endlessly about my OCs and their world) but it is past my bedtime lmao. Hey I was stalking ur page just now and tripped over the “dick and tim and food” posts and it made me think of how, during the “Robin in keystone city” arc, pizza is brought up at least twice, and both times tim specified that he doesn’t want pineapple on the pizza. BUT iirc tim normally enjoys or at the very least tolerates pineapple on pizza, and I wanted to know if you thought maybe tim was avoiding pineapple pizza bc it’s a tim and dick thing for him and he’d miss his brother or something
