I'm now on day 5/365 where "Just a Shadow" makes me cry.
youtube
#this song is insane.#spiritually & with tears streaming down my face I am shaking Stuart Adamson by the shoulders like 'DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU DID'#I don't know if he even ever considered this one of his best songs which is tragic because it is. hands-down.#he talked about ''Broken Heart (Thirteen Valleys)'' being his best for at least a little while after it came out#but ''Just a Shadow'' can be put up against MANY MANY MAAAAAAAAAAAAANYYYYYYYYYYYY songs and win.#and by 'win' I do mean 'win the meaningful song of all time competition' lol#sorry but I could flail about this song for years and I probably will.#and yes I do remember when I called this song musically boring. the arrangement is still not innovative imo#but lyrically it cannot be beat. I mean that so much. I would die for this song.#compared to ''In a Big Country'' or ''Wonderland'' which are songs I would undoubtedly live for? I would die for ''Just a Shadow''.#also in the video I included: NO I STILL DO NOT LIKE THE KEYBOARDIST. Benmont Tench or Christine McVie would've done it way better#Youtube

EPISODE👏 REVIEW👏 hsmtmts season 2 episode 10: get ready for some enthusiastic writing and a little too much looking into details
first off seb doing the intro made my heart happy i love him
ok i know everyone has been saying it but there is no way in hell they’re winning the menkies. unless the writers just go with the main character favoritism route, there’s just no way. however for the sake of comedy, watching ashlyn give us everything in the transformation scene and ricky being an absolute disaster is SO funny to me. like shout out to joshua because that scene made me laugh so hard. also a trio i need more of is kourt, red and ej. i just feel like they would be dramatic gossipy bitches and i love that for them.
normally i think ms. jenn’s reactions are over the top but after seeing the shit show that just occurred 2 mins before... i think her reaction is very valid because oh god.
continuing with the theme of friendship dynamics we haven’t seen a lot of but we absolutely need more of, ashlyn and ricky!! that scene was so sweet and wholesome. i’m so so so glad the writers didn’t fall into the trap of making characters take sides after a break up. i just feel like it’s been done a million times before. but seeing ashlyn being so genuine when checking up in ricky made me so happy. the caswells remain being the superior characters (including gina obvs)
ms. jenn and mr. mazzarra are cute don’t get me wrong but they should’ve spent more time developing that relationship instead giving ms. jenn like 3 random love interests and that’s all i’ll say on that.
i love imagining what characters are saying when they’re just ad libbing. like what could ej, gina, ricky and red be talking about before carlos shows up to start the scene?? my guess is they’re all gushing about how amazing ash is and no i don’t take criticisms on that.
alright i’ll say it. the seblos drama is weak at best. they didn’t spend enough time developing it and kind of pushed it to the background so when it was one of the main focuses of the episode it was kind of like ok?? HOWEVER i did love the resolution to it and the deeper look into their individual characters. (i’ll talk more about this later)
carlos calling ms. jenn mother and everyone immediately knowing who he was talking about sent me omfg. but also who the fuck let these high schoolers try to figure out this transformation scene by themselves?? they collectively have 2 brain cells and they just bounce around between the 9 of them depending on the scene. but playful sleepover competition!! also gina nudging ej when he goes a little too ej 1.0 was everything.
i hate lily and i love sassy red. that’s all.
(im going to talk about the boys/girls sleepovers like they’re each one continuous scene respectively because it’s way easier than switching back and forth)
fun new friendship dynamics!! the boys!! sebbie and the girls! iconic. i know that the show is meant to be in a mockumentary style so we only see parts of the characters lives but i would give my left arm to see the boys getting closer and becoming friends. this is also the first scene where i really noticed ricky’s shirt. ricky is queer disney are just cowards. i’m not a big ricky/ ej shipper but the pretty boy had me feeling some type of way. carlos being worried about seb and their relationship and then red being like well this is why. bc he’s got a spy on the inside was peak friendship. but seriously disney?? just say gay. it’s not a bad word. now imma freak out about PORTWELL OMFG I WAS ALREADY FREAKING OUT DURING THIS SCENE SO YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW WELL I WAS DOING LATER ON. but ej just being like im not ready to put myself out there because of nini i don’t wanna get rejected... again. my heart went out to him. you can really see how much he’s grown as a person. but sure ej y’all are “buddies” also him saying the one thing i’m proud of from my time with nini was letting her go and ricky’s reaction to that hurt me to my core.
alright let’s talk about the girls and seb. first off i love that they’re actually working and the boys are doing fuck all LOL. seb actually talking about how he feels?? good for him. i hate that he thinks that carlos is only with him because there’s limited options but at least he’s talking about it. a moment of silence for ash’s scissor bucket (i won’t make a gay joke. i won’t make a gay joke. i won’t-) anyways... i really thought that maybe ash would know about portwell but it’s fucking EVERYONE. like y’all are that perceptive about other peoples relationships but not your own?? that’s why all y’all have relationship drama. gina not wanting to put herself out there because she’s afraid of getting hurt?? ouch. gina thinking ej is just being nice?? ouch but also gina, sis?? what. also nini reacting that way to the chocolates is so out of pocket. like 1) y’all aren’t dating anymore so what’s got you so pressed? 2) gina made it clear that they weren’t actually from ricky 3) nini you know they had some sort of chemistry before you and ricky got back together so this really shouldn’t be that surprising.
anyways the scene with ricky and carlos broke me. the decision for ricky to not show nini the song was so mature. despite wanting to get her back, he KNOWS that that would only drag her back and that’s not fair to her and he knows it. but his awareness of seblos’s relationship and wanting to help carlos work things out with seb was so wholesome and so sweet and is kind of a big moment of character development for him this season. like he was generally very selfish this season (again i’m a ricky apologist til the day i die but he was so selfish) and seeing him take the focus away from his problems to help carlos out was so sweet. also i need more ricky/carlos friendship moments.
kourt talking about howie learning her love language?? bitch you mean espionage?? i mean me too but that’s so fucking funny
ALRIGHT THIS IS THE PARAGRAPH WHERE I SCREAM ABOUT PORTWELL!!! i am so so so so happy right now about this. the fact that ej asked about risotto but for real was so satisfying and was blatantly like him saying i know we faked being in a relationship but what about it not being fake and omfg that’s so amazing. also gina being skeptical and asking if ash put him up to it and him saying not that i know of?? THE PARALLELS?? also gina this whole season has been talking about signs and finding reasons to stay, finding signs to know if someone is right for her and you can literally see the moment she realizes she said the same thing about the duke sweatshirt to jack. SHE KNOWS THIS IS HER SIGN and that’s so special to me. also ej’s nervous laugh after she says yes?? omfg. let’s look at ej’s character. historically he’s confident, cocky and generally puts on this facade of having his shit together but gina makes him nervous (in a good way). he doesn’t feel like he has to pretend to be confident around her. he’s showing her that he’s just as nervous as she is about this and that is just *chefs kiss* honestly not to be an andi mack stan but ej’s little nervous chuckle and ok after she says yes sounds like he’s letting out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding which seriously parallels tj after the tyrus confession. i’m just saying. ALSO GINA’S LITTLE EXCITED WALK BACK TO THE GROUP AHHHHHH
the seblos song?? i have no notes. it was incredible. frankie killed that shit. it was such a good song. so sweet. so wholesome. also ricky and carlos’s hug was so fucking meaningful to both of them and you can tell. ricky was absolutely beaming because he helped the two of them and it feels like a little bit of season 1 ricky shining through.
WHO THE FUCK LET A BUNCH OF HIGH SCHOOLERS RIG A KID IN THE AIR COMPLETELY UNSUPERVISED?? of course ricky fucking fell. that group shares 2 brain cells. obviously some dumb shit was going to happen

Hi Colour! How are you doing today? I don't know about doing meaningful things with my life, feel like I've just been surviving this entire time lol. However I am trying to figure it out and working on building the life I want to live and hopefully I will be able contribute to this world in some way.
I don't think I've ever played a game of trivial pursuit. Have never been to a pub either, not like the ones you have in the UK anyway. Just been to very dirty bars where me and my friends used to drink as much as we could afford, shared questionable food that could potentially make us sick the next day and there were no quizzes or games really haha. So your exp sounds way more fun! 😂
I'm glad you're giving the song a chance! Only Spotify knows how many times I've listened to it lol. I reckon Hozier's going to be my artist of the year for 2021. I love attributing works of art to Dani x Jamie, have a whole ass Pinterest board full with images of paintings, poetry, music and anything that I think relates to them really (yeah I know, I have a problem).
I love everything you've said about how Dani, Viola and the lady in the lake are alike, I hadn't really thought about their similarities before, but everything you've said makes perfect sense. I always saw Viola as a narcissist, even her drive to protect her child felt selfish in a way, don't know if you know what I mean. And when she fades away and becomes the lady she's just pure (almost animalistic) instinct while on auto pilot, bc she only remembers rage and abandonment, she takes anything on her path aggressively unless they're a child. So what she sees in Dani is not processed logically, right? It's pure instinct and emotions, so what she recognizes in her when Dani invites her in is the desperate need to protect this child, so she sees her as deserving. Perhaps she also saw in Dani and opportunity to escape this nightmare. Despite all her faults she didn't deserve what happened to her either.
And don't get me wrong, Jamie is so, so strong and solid and she is my favorite mostly bc I identify with her personality more than Dani's. But we know Jamie is all that even before we learn her story, and I feel like it is expected that she'll be the strong and brave one bc she's had to be that her entire life albeit unwillingly. But Dani? We expect her to break at any given point, I mean she is reaching her limit after all that's happened, with all the weight she's carrying. I remember thinking "Jesus, this girl needs help" when I first watched the show hahaha. But she fights every damn time, she doesn't run away and that's why I find her so fascinating. That's why I thought this song was so fitting. Even if Dani would never see herself that way. But it's Jamie's perspective (and fire signs tend to exaggerate everything 😂) so it feels fitting that she thinks so highly of her baby haha. Ugh I just wanted them to stay together forever. 🥺
Omg yes! I love how you refined this idea, good thing you're a writer and I'm not hahaha. And yeah I'm absolutely here for sapphics with weapons like holy shit imagine Jamie fighting with a sword? 🤤 I'm weak. Hahaha would be cool to see them in a pirate AU too! Maybe someone's already done it? Idk. But aaaah I want to see them in every possible universe hahaha. Makes me want to get back into drawing too. 😩
Aww you two sound like you have a lovely bond going on. Your niece sounds like the coolest! I started out drawing anime too when I was a kid and ended up doing graphic design for a living! How did learning how to draw anime style go for you today?
Hey I'm doing great thank you I hope you are too? I know that feeling because I feel like that's how I have made it to 27 just surviving (barely) and taking things one day at a time to get me to this point and hopefully I can contribute in some way even it its just a small way... so I totally get that feeling but I am sure you contribute so much without you even realising it!! Oh it's great but depending on how competitive the people you're playing with are it can get pretty heated... I've been in some heated games of it before because people just refuse to believe I know the answers to some of the questions and they think I've been cheating and have all but demanded I have another question asked instead of the one I got right... and pub quizzes can be fun again depending on the team you're in and how seriously you wanna take it I have been in teams where its been a serious thing and we have all desperately wanted to win and then I've been in teams and we've just had fun with it... all the pubs I go in are dirty bars too but sometimes they have pub quizzes... I have had many nights where I have drank what I can afford... one night me on my roommate went over board though and we ended up spending ALL our money even our taxi fair and we had to walk home in the dark along country roads with hardly any lights to guide us... because of how drunk we were it too us around 3-4 hours and I fell over a road sign and ended up in a ditch... I've had a lot of fun experiences but some really stupid ones as well... your experiences sound great though!! I would love that!! I listened to the song and I loved it so much!! I don't even wanna know what my most listened to artist will be this year... my money is on it being the Six musical soundtrack... probably All You Wanna Do from that musical I'll be surprised if it's anything else. I would love for it to be someone like Hozier, but ever since I have done my Spotify wrapped thing it's always been a musical of some kind that's been my number 1 song / artist haha I love doing the same thing. If I can make something fit Dani x Jamie I will like it doesn't even matter what it is haha... I don't think you have a problem I think that sounds so cool!! I have nothing like that. I just have a head full of random ideas screaming to be let out I agree Viola is definitely selfish and narcissistic and everything she did came from a place of anger and rage over the things that happened to her she fell in love and got married and had a child and saw her sister try and take that from her while she was ill and in the end her sister killed her. Like yeah, I do feel sorry for Perdita with the way she was treated but I do think everything Viola did was out of frustration over what was happening to her. Like you said she acts on auto pilot and only knows rage until it comes to children- because all she knows is she is looking for a child so when she saw Dani so selfless sacrifice herself for a child she saw a little bit of herself in Dani she knows Dani is a good person and she can relate to that protective streak and I think she did see Dani as deserving I definitely agree with everything you've said here. Viola might have had faults and flaws and who doesn't? But I definitely think she had it rough and did deserve better than she was given. I agree, you can tell looking at Jamie that she is strong and brave while Dani comes off as the exact opposite. But I think you see fully how brave they both are when Dani sacrifices herself for Flora and when Jamie offers to keep Dani company and loves her despite knowing she won't be able to love her forever. I love Jamie but definitely relate to Dani's personality more, there are a lot of things Dani does that I see myself in her because I have done those types of things myself and the whole beast in the jungle speech resonates with me so much and every time I watch the last episode and hear that speech I am a crying mess from that point on. It's funny that you thought that about Dani when you first watched it, because me and my sisters got my mum to
watch it and she said the same thing about Dani "she needs help" but then once told me she liked Dani because she reminded her of me that was an interesting conversation to be a part of "Dani needs help... but I like her she's like you." I was like "Thanks?" I agree this song is definitely more how Jamie would see Dani, I think Dani just has a very blasé view of herself, like I don't think she's self conscious or self deprecating in anyway but I think she sort of walks around like "this is me and this is just how I am" where as Jamie just sees Dani for how brave and strong and amazing she is- maybe even if as a fire sign she exaggerates a little bit haha Jamie just thinks Dani is the most amazing person in the world and I just know that Dani saw her the same way!! I really wanted them to be together forever... I am never going to emotionally recover from Bly Manor. Your idea was incredible and I think it would be a great story to read honestly that's the type of thing I live for!! OMG Jamie with a sword is just 🤤 🥵 I am all for sapphics and weapons of any kind!! There's this pirate AU which is absolutely amazing!! I don't know if you've read it or not but iamalekza writes some really great fics!! https://archiveofourown.org/works/28631598/chapters/70179306 ^^ Pirate AU I really wish I could draw I would love to be able to draw scenes from fics I have read and even ones I have written but I just don't have the skill set for that!! I would love to see other fan arts though I think drawing is such an incredible talent to have and I am in awe of anyone that can do it!! Me and my niece have a great bond, she's like a little mini me (despite almost being as tall as me). She is honestly such a cool kid I have a hell of a lot of fun with her- I'm looking after her again tomorrow and I have no idea what we're gonna do but we will figure something out... she's such a good drawer she's only just started doing it at the beginning of the year and she's really progressed with it... I however have not so I am definitely gonna need more practice. That's so cool that you started out doing anime drawing and then ended up going into a career in graphic design. Again that's a talent that I am just in awe of because it's just something I have never been able to do!!

Queen of Drags
Finally the post many of you asked for since the show went into heavy promotion.
This is going to be long. To keep this from being too boring I decided to publish it in form of an ongoing conversation between myself and the one and only Chiara.
Me: So let’s start with the cast and the jury.
Chi: On the jury side we have Conchita Wurst.
Me: Guess we have to disclaimer this?
Chi: She’s our friend, She knows and loves Drag and is a talented and amazing performer. So disclaimer done.
Me: Next we have Bill Kaulitz.
Chi: Wasn’t he in some kinda child band?
Me: Yep Tokio Hotel, they are still around. he was also a judge on an music casting show back in the early 2010s.
Chi: Garbage music[1]?
Me: “Deutschland sucht den Superstar”. So nothing you or I would call music.
Chi: Right. Garbage music.
Me: And we have guest judges.
Chi: One per show right?
Me: Yea even in the final episode. They use a point system. Each of the for judges awards points. The highest number per episode is the number of contestants left.
Chi: The lowest is one or 0?
Me: Normal people start with one.
Chi: So decimal system than?
Me: Smartass.
Chi: I am smart and I have an amazing ass.
Me: No arguing with that.
Chi: So who are the guest judges?
Me: In order of appearance: Olivia Jones, Amanda Lepore, Leona Lewis, Pabllo Vittar, La Toya Jacksona and for the final Laganja Estranja
Chi: So 4 judges that know there shit and 2 professional singers. That’s a lot better than a typical Drag Race season.
Me: Yes and they actually do matter due to the point system they used.
Chi: So what do you expect from our 3 permanent judges?
Me: Obviously the best insights will come from Conchita and some of the guests. Bill will focus on overall performance aspects, stage placement, lip-sync etc. and Heidi... well looks and she brings the “girl at the drag bar” perspective.
Chi: Well we cheated here didn’t we?
Me: Yes because that was how it played out and Conchita felt like kind of the head judge the entire season but what we expected because of the pre show PR was Heidi dominating the show and giving us her model casting show 2.0.
Chi: Did Pro 7 fuck it up with the trailer where they framed Heidi as the head judge?
Me: Well at this point in time I don’t think they tried to provoke the backlash they got. They just tried to frame the show in a way so there usual audience sees someone they are familiar with.
Chi: So you don’t think the baited the queer community and press into a push back just to get the buzz going?
Me: You mean a PR campaign that would exploit a marginalized community to sell a commodity? That would by cynical!
Chi: ...
Me: Moving on. Let’s talk about the artists.
Chi: I honestly didn’t know much about any of ‘em.
Me: Not even your “home girl”?
Chi: Do I have to remind you that I’m from Zurich and Hayden Kryze is from Bern? Plus I wasn’t in Switzerland for an awful lot of time in the last 2 years.
Me: Right and she's rather young isn’t she?
Chi: 20
Chi: Speaking of age Catherrine Leclery is the oldest cast member with 48 and seems to be the one who’s in the business the longest, Hayden is the youngest.
Me: Hmm, what I noticed is that anyone but Catherrine is under 35.
Chi: I feel old now.
Me: I knew about the 3 Berlin girls but never worked with any of ‘em.
Chi: That’s Bambi Mercury a bearded queen not related to our friend Bambie the high priestess of gore. Candy Crash a funny bitch who paints her face on youtube and the “infamous” Katy Bähm.
Me: You know Candy had me when she renamed Katy into “Käthe Baum”
Chi: *lough crying* me to bitch!
Me: But really Candy is a miracle she managed to age 5 years since she was in a documentary in 2018
Chi: *sings* Forever Young, I want to be... forever..
Me: Still I like her and people I know, who worked with her, like her.
Chi: Too bad she doesn’t make wigs...
Me: *spills drink* *side eyes Chiara*
Me: Looks like we both are not turning into Käthe Baum fans any time soon.
Chi: I learned a saying from the southern United States “Bless her heart”
Me: Moving on. Janisha Jones.
Chi: We didn’t know her before the show
Me: But our good friend Ephe Drine knows her and as a Munich queen with spanish roots (like Ephe) she’s somewhat of my “home girl”.
Chi: We did run into her however and she’s a lovely person,an true artist by heart and a way better drag performer than it came across on the show.
Me: She sadly was the first one that went home but if you get a chance to see her. Do it. She doesn’t disappoint.
Chi: Next up is Samantha Gold.
Me: Oh yea our full figured Bar Queen from Hamburg with Austrian roots.
Chi: Old school drag. She was the second one out.
Me: She did sing live on episode one and her performance was...
Chi: ...not as strong as we would have expected from someone who does that for a living.
Me: Moving on.
Chi: Now my “home girl” Hayden Kryze.
Me: She’s young.
Chi: She sure has talent but it felt...
Me: Aimless and her performances where sloppy
Chi: Unpolished. She sure can move and the whole “I can be a manly man but also a hot drag queen” segment was...
Me: She’s young
Chi: Speaking of young Aria Addams.
Me: Not related to my drag daughter Wendy Addams
Chi: That we know of. I mean age wise she could be hers.
Me: And they sure have the same fire and undeniable talent.
Chi: She was the big one for me. She grew episode to episode was never afraid to try something new and wasn’t annoying. I’d love to work with her at some point.
Me: Speaking of people one wants to work with, Vava Vide.
Chi: I had no idea that there even was a drag scene in Stuttgart.
Me: There were 3 standouts in the cast when it comes to drag as visual performative art form, Vava Vide, Bambi Mercury and, to a lesser degree, Aria Addams.
Chi: I do agree but I would also include Janisha. Alas her time on the show was too short for her to really show it.
Me: We are missing one.
Chi: You clearly had a nap under the shade tree my love. You forgot Yoncé Banks, the first Queen of Drags.
Me: Oh you are right but I really forgot about her because, and that’s just me, her kind of pretty girl drag packaged with rather limited dance performances and the most questionable tuck since Jade Sotomayor on Drag Race season one is very very boring to me.
Chi: You never tuck.
Me: I don't do pretty girl drag so I don't have to.
Chi: ...
Me: Come on it’s not only the tuck it’s the fact that her tucker underwear was clearly visible ever single episode. Make sure that your stage outfits do fit kids.
Chi: So you don't agree with her winning?
Me: Well, and that once again is just me, she’s a one trick pony that never stepped out of her comfort zone in any meaningful way and she should have gone home for her Horror/Halloween performance.
Chi: You sound like Michelle Visage.
Me: Oh my dark lord you are right.
Chi: lol
Me: Anyway I would have loved to see Aria Addams win because from the top 3 she has the most potential and showed the most growth.
Chi: I have to admit for all the lip service production was paying to Drag as an art form during the season and even when the sent the other “pretty girl” Katy Bähm home over Bambi Mercury I had hope. Handing the win to the rather conventional Yoncé Banks felt like a let down.
Me: That’s what I’m saying. It felt like “We want a mainstream compatible winner for our sponsors.” and the medical problems Aria had sure helped create the perfect pretext to do just that.
Chi: My background is in marketing and the cynical voice in my head does agree with you but do we really want to know?
Me: Does it actually matter in the end? I think not. This show sure had it shortcomings but it managed to do 2 things. First it felt a lot more relaxed and “real” than Drag Race ever did. I loved it when they all went out partying. Second to give the German public an idea of how wide contemporary drag as an art form is.
Chi: On the competition side I liked the point system they used. I loved Conchita who was an amazing head judge and all the guests did really really well. Amanda Lepore is in deed one of the sweetest humans alive and Laganja Estranja is a grown up now.
Me: And she single-handedly gave a masterclass in how a dance focused Drag performance looks in 2019.
Me: There was a little too much crying for me and we never got into any depth about the problems we as a queer people face. Only this snippets with the “same old same, old” mainstream media always pulls when they talk about us.
Chi: That’s a narrative problem in wider media and the editing sure felt exploitative in some parts. Especially you as a long time activist pick up on such things almost intuitively.
Me: Yes it felt a little odd that Katy’s sob story had more screen time than real activists like Vava got and I absolutely loved it that Bambi refused to part take in the trauma navel gazing.
Chi: Oh yes Bambi had a couple of power moves in this season and I love the fact that she had the trans flag on stage with her in her opening performance.
Chi: Any last words?
Me: Aria Addams should have won the title. Candy Crush should have stayed longer and the top 3 should have been Aria Addams, Vava Vide & Bambi Mercury because I greatly enjoyed what they brought to the table.
Chi: I’m not mad that Yoncé Banks won but I’m underwhelmed by it. I want to put the focus a little on Catherrine Leclery[2]. She was never afraid to try something new and turning her Fairytale performance into a political statement about the rights of Indigenous people to a fucking Disney musical song was very very smart.
Me: Over all where do we stand?
Chi: Better than expected. The artistry was there the talent was there the presentation was fine for the most part. Going clubbing and having that spa night made this show more real and honest than all seasons of Drag Race combined.
Me: They did have a budget for the show and they used it well. For the future I hope they can get rid of some of this tired reality TV tropes like this fake and over exaggerated conflicts and keeping around contestants because they are a source of drama. I want to see the performances in full not this snippets that look like they’ve been edited by an hyperactive 10 year old who got his hands on 6 cans of red bull. Season 2 will show if it will evolve or turn into the usual shit show that passes as tv entertainment these days.
Chi: I fully agree.
Me: Congratulations to Yoncé Banks for being the first “Queen of Drags”
Chi: Congrats!

i know people really want dreamcatcher to get their first win here but idk yall im not sure its possible :/
first of all, i’m not entirely sure this is the kind of song that will go viral enough to win? like, if they were already big and had already had many music show wins, this would win some, but for a group to break into that elite club of groups-with-music-show-wins it has to really go absolutely viral, i guess. like, correct me if i’m wrong, but everglow hasnt even won with adios and that song has been doing incredibly well. unfortunately, you really do kinda need something like a momoland bboom bboom that just blows wayyyyyy up in order to break into that echelon nowadays, it seems. that, or you start from an already huge company.
second... dc really only has a week to try, cause twice is coming back soon and like twice could put out a complete dud of a track and it’d still win music show awards because of how many fans they have. like even if every fan that they have listens to it and hates it, the mere act of their fans listening to it once would probably be enough to win on a music show hahaha. and like... it’s twice... so it probably won’t be a dud, it’ll probably be a huge bop and do really well lol.
like i’m not saying anything negative about dreamcatcher here, i just mean it’s a rough time to come back. to be fair though, i’m not really sure when a good time will be... cause if they did it a month ago they would have competed with red velvet and everglow, and a month before that it woulda been itzy, and so on and so on. a month from now... who knows? and that’s just girl groups lol, i dont even really know what boy groups have been promoting and winning shows recently, but i bet they’re pretty tough competition. kpop is booming right now, there’s almost no optimal times for a smaller group to try to break through when all the big names are on break... cause there’s so many big names now that there will always be a bunch performing at any given time.
i know we all want our faves to get their first wins.... but it takes a lot. and i think in the coming years we’ll probably see some restructuring of how the kpop industry operates because of this. loona, my ult ult ult group, is hopefully gonna come back sometime soon, and they’re bigger than they ever have been before and there’s a lot of hype surrounding them that they’re gonna be able to capitalize on... but i kinda don’t think it’ll be enough even for a group on the rise like them. not only will two or three big names also be promoting whenever loona comes back, but also just... the industry does seem pretty skewed towards groups that have already proven themselves and gotten many wins.
my point is not that we should give up lol, my point is that we might have to redefine what markers of success are... we might see that kind of thing happening in the next couple years. honestly, getting second or third over and over is a huge statement and worth celebrating too, so that’s a really noble goal to shoot for. but i dont even just mean that. i don’t have a perfect solution lol i’m just a tumblr blogger, i don’t know how to fix an oversaturated industry... but i wonder what will happen. oversaturation isnt even a bad problem imo, the more music the merrier haha. i just mean that the amount of importance placed on the #1 isn’t as meaningful anymore in an era with a million groups and artists promoting at any given time lmao, and that’s okay, that’s not a bad thing. kpop is big enough now that we might even see music shows catering to specific subgenres or popularity levels too, who knows!

Prelude
Rating: T; for language and suggestive material.
Pairing: Levi x Mikasa, RivaMika
Summary: Written for the fifth RivaMika Jam! The story of how an aspiring musician meets and falls for his muse. My partner was @zerolr and my prompt was: “Mikasa is an ordinary person working at a grocery/supermarket store and Levi is a famous musician/actor. He sees her and finds himself attracted/interested in her. So while she checks out his purchase, Levi leaves her his phone number.” I kinda deviated a little from the original premise, but I hope it still turned out okay! :) This was fun to work with and I’m glad I signed up this time around!
Word Count: 3873 (a little long lol oops)
Music is one of many ways people are able to express themselves.
Soft, slow melodies from jazz or classical styles evoke calmness and serenity. Heavier themes can be conveyed through powerhouse ballads of the rock n’ roll variety. Regardless of the genre, there’s almost always a message or meaning to these intricate works of art, crafted from some sort of stimulus.
Some musicians draw inspiration from everyday life and personal experience, travelling and exploring new sights, or through the release of pent up emotions; a coping mechanism for dealing with hardships and complexities of this cruel yet beautiful world.
Aspiring musician Levi Ackerman fears he’s lost any and all inspiration. He has talent, that much is true. However, he recognizes that plenty of other ‘up-and-comers’ and ‘desperate hopefuls’ have talent. His music has hit a plateau, unsure where to take his current career aspirations or how exactly to get where he wants to be. He yearns for a stimulating experience; something to pull him out of this awful rut and set him apart from others in the highly competitive and cut-throat industry, riddled with unoriginal material and blatant narcissism.
Enter Mikasa, and the spark comes back.
She’s a quiet, reserved cashier at a small grocery store he frequents on a weekly basis. Always calm, smiles politely to every customer, and tends the same checkout stand every time.
Every other week-night. From six to midnight. Like clockwork.
Levi’s newfound muse is exactly what he needs as a source of inspiration.
It just so happens that he’s conveniently run out of a few basic necessities, prompting a trip to the grocery store on an unseasonably warm Thursday night.
Before long, he’s face to face with her, setting his gathered items on the counter in a meticulously neat array.
As Mikasa begins ringing up his purchase, she can’t help but engage in harmless conversation.
“That’s… a lot of cleaning supplies.” She suppresses a small chuckle, swiping the items along the scanner to a steady rhythm of beeps.
Levi, the ultimate clean-freak, feels no shame in what he considers a redeemable quality. He also seeks to use the situation as a means for something a bit more meaningful.
“My roommates,” he explains, “can be a handful.” That’s one way to put it.
“I can definitely relate,” Mikasa drawls, nodding her head. “Take on most of the responsibilities, right?”
“For the most part,” Levi replies. “They might be terrible roommates, but I can’t exactly get rid of ‘em.”
Still ringing up the last of the items, Mikasa coyly turns her gaze directly his way. “Some sort of obligation?”
Levi lists off the generalities of his living situation. “Longtime friends, band-mates…”
To his surprise, Mikasa pauses and expresses interest in pursuing the matter. “Band, huh?” A hard-to-read smile perches on her lips. “Is it more of a hobby? Like a side thing?”
He’s used to these kinds of questions, therefore he’s more than willing to answer. “Started out as a hobby, until we started booking gigs and performing here and there.”
“Seems as though you like it enough.”
“The extra money is nice, especially when it’s for something I enjoy doing.” Levi pulls out his wallet, preparing to pay for the cleaning haul. “Some venues are better than others. Some crowds are tougher than others. It’s hit and miss sometimes.”
Upon finishing bagging up the items, Mikasa briefly changes the subject, reverting back to the task at hand. “I might’ve asked you last time you were here, but any chance you’re interested in signing up for our new rewards program?”
Levi knows it’s a part of her job to ask every customer. Hell, the manager probably keeps tabs on which employee has signed up the most people per shift. He himself once worked in retail, so he can relate to working in an environment where employees are pressured to fulfill such menial assignments.
Either way, he’s still reluctant. “What would that entail?”
Utilizing her charismatic skills to their full potential, Mikasa makes an effort to reassure any concerns. “It’s free to sign up. All we need is an email and phone number.” Aligning her gaze with the mountain of cleaning products, she quickly adds, “And given that you’re here every week to stock up for the apocalypse, I think you’d benefit from it.”
Levi ultimately relents. “Well when you put it that way, it sounds reasonable.” A smirk creeps along the corner of his mouth as he begins filling out a sign-up sheet. “I thought maybe you were just playing it cool, trying to get my phone number.”
His attempt at flirting certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed and Mikasa finds it impossible to suppress the surge of red rising to her cheeks.
“Just… doing my job,” is all she can manage.
Thank god it’s a slow night and there’s no one else in line behind him, or this might have been a thousand times weirder. She accepts both the small slip of paper and his form of payment, finalizing the transaction in one fell swoop.
“Have a good night,” she says, handing him his receipt.
Levi, assuming that’s the end of it, nods and moves to grab the plastic bags full of his purchases, thanking her before turning away. Suddenly, and so unexpectedly, Mikasa’s voice pipes up and momentarily stops him from leaving the checkout stand.
“You should let me know when your next gig is,” she states casually. “I’d love to hear you play some time.”
Levi wasn’t sure what he had done to have been rewarded this many 'good karma’ points, but he accepts his lucky break nonetheless. Keeping his tone as casual as hers, he responds with, “Well now that you have my number, maybe you should call me when you’re free.”
Mikasa contemplates his sly remark, shaking her head. “I have a better idea.” She pulls out a pen and small piece of paper, using the counter as a flat surface while she scribbles something down. Once she’s finished, she extends it towards Levi, encouraging him to take it.
Levi gladly accepts, and discovers the contents of the pocket-size note feature her phone number.
“How about you call me when you get the chance?” Mikasa’s clever witticisms are yet another reason Levi is convinced his taste in women is anything but questionable.
He keeps a firm grasp on the slip of paper, as though it’s a prize-winning lotto ticket. “I will.”
And he certainly does.
Levi doesn’t get nervous.
He and his band-mates have performed enough times to get a feel for what the crowd likes and wants to hear. The venues are usually small, local, and full of college-age spectators. The stages rarely ever differ, offering the bare minimum amount of lighting above a sturdy wooden platform.
It’s not the first time he’s performed at this bar in particular. By now, he’s familiar with the amiable staff and finally on a first-name basis with management. Levi and co are a crowd favorite at the popular Colossal Bar, having won the hearts of the locale’s regulars which in turn generates an influx of business for the establishment. It’s a win-win for all parties involved.
There must have been roughly a hundred people in the joint but just as Levi was set to perform his second song, a loose rendition of ‘When You Were Young’ by The Killers, his gaze falls upon a sight that seems unfathomably surreal.
Mikasa is standing in the center of the crowd, a faint smile adorning her face. With one hand occupied, holding her drink of choice, she raises the other and waves.
Levi still doesn’t get nervous. It only fuels his desire to perform his best.
Amid the vast sea of unfamiliar faces, some more sober than others, some more enthused than others, some even singing along, Levi only wants to look at her.
Halfway through the song, the energy of the crowd seems to magnify, with someone in the back whistling loud enough to be heard over the intensity streaming from finely tuned guitars and drums.
Cheers follow shortly after the well-received rendition comes to an end, transitioning to a brief interlude as the band prepares to end the performance with their last song for the evening. This time it’s an original, not a cover.
Levi’s foot taps against the floorboards to the opening of the song; the song he wrote after seeing Mikasa for the first time. Granted, she doesn’t know that…
See it on the people’s faces everywhere
Black ‘n blue but they won’t throw the towel in
And let go of a dream
Man, woman, child, prepare to bleed
The band had initially been weary of the how the audience would react to their original piece, but the reassurance comes flooding in as soon as hoots and hollers from the crowd adorn their ears in tandem with the palpable beat and lyrics.
Levi keeps a level head through and through, eyes still locked on Mikasa, seemingly holding an intense staring contest with the raven-haired beauty that blocks everything else out.
Do you believe that we can conquer this?
Can’t delete all the mess that I have seen
Fall in the fire but these burns will heal you
The array of lights overhead flicker as Levi backs away from the mic. At long last, they complete yet another successful gig. A round of applause echoes from every corner of the establishment, indicating the patrons are more than just satisfied with the evening’s performance. He and his band accept the riotous praise hailing from newfound fans of their music, waving to the plethora of enthusiasts.
Bidding his mates farewell, Levi hops off stage and scrambles among a few tipsy spectators in search of one particularly lovely guest.
Several girls are ogling him from every angle, to which Levi is hopelessly oblivious. Completely uninterested in their advances, Levi finally spots Mikasa at the bar and pulls up a seat in the stool right next to hers.
She’s the first one to speak, greeting the arrival of the band’s front man.
“Seems to me you underestimate yourself, Levi,” she mutters, taking a sip of her gin and tonic.
“How so?” he asks, curiosity brewing.
She blinks lazily, resting her elbows on the counter. “When you told me you were in a band, you failed to mention you guys were actually really good.”
Levi’s glad he doesn’t give her the impression he’s a cocky asshole. He hates cocky assholes who talk up a big game, finding it beyond amusing when their pride and inflated egos are their ultimate downfall.
He accepts the compliment without getting ahead of himself. “’Good’ is a subjective term, but I appreciate it.” He orders a drink and while waiting for the bartender to devise the concoction, he carries on with the conversation. “I’m really glad you came out tonight.”
“That makes two of us,” Mikasa replies, studying him with intoxicating bluish greys.
The bartender sets Levi’s whiskey and coke on a coaster, to which he’s quick to take a hearty swig. The alcohol helps take the edge off, though he’s not much of a drinker and is enjoying the social interaction regardless. He’s about to say something when Mikasa nudges him gently on the shoulder.
“Don’t look now,” she mumbles, “but I think you have a fan.“
Levi only scoffs at that. “Oh yeah?”
“A few tables behind you. Toward the back.” Mikasa chuckles. “She’s been checking you out this whole time.”
Levi doesn’t heed her initial advice and looks over his shoulder to pinpoint this interested fan of his.
Bingo.
Copper colored hair. Large hazel-brown doe eyes. Possible candidate for a one-night stand.
‘Doe eyes’ winks at him, the look on her face begging him to join her and her circle of friends for some chit-chat.
Levi instantly looks away, leaving Mikasa equal parts confused and intrigued.
“She’s cute,” she hums.
“She’s not my type,” Levi affirms. “Besides, I’m right where I want to be.”
Levi and Mikasa eventually make their way to the back of the room, loosening up on a couple of beige lounge chairs as the alcohol only mildly kicks in. There’s about an hour left until closing, most of the noise dying down as the evening fades into the deathly early hours of the morning. A few winks from interested college girls still dart his direction, but right now he’s only focused on the way Mikasa perks her lips every time she’s about to say something. He can’t be half-assed to care what happened to 'doe eyes’ or his band-mates, not while he has Mikasa in front of him.
He learns that she’s not from the area. That she was adopted at the age of three and grew up in a small town a few hours away. Aside from working at the grocery store, she’s a full-time college student, majoring in criminal justice.
Levi on the other hand, admits he’s never really been anywhere else. Small town guy hailing from humble beginnings, content with how his life is turning out.
“Maybe that’ll change,” Mikasa insinuates. “One day when you make it big, you’ll be able to go to all sorts of places.”
Levi huffs at that. “’Make it big?’” He sounds disdainful, as if musicians who only strive for fame and fortune aren’t true musicians at all. He vowed never to be a sell-out long before setting foot on-stage. “Not sure that’s the direction I want to take my career.”
Mikasa half-smiles. “Like I told you. You underestimate yourself.”
“I don’t know,” Levi shrugs. “I think I would grow to hate that kind of lifestyle fairly quickly.” Always on the road, lots of airports and hotels, lots of loud obnoxious people. The exact kind of shit he can’t stand.
Mikasa has always been a realist, so she understands where he’s coming from, but that doesn’t stop her from offering her own perspective. “That’s one way to look at it,” she begins, “but what about the message you’re trying to send? What about the people who look up to you? Your music is more than just an artistic way of expressing yourself. It could inspire the hearts of thousands, bring them all together, and make this messed up world just a tiny bit better.”
You could use your voice for so much more…
Levi blinks a few times, almost at a loss for words until he finally manages to think of how to respond to that. “Forget criminal justice, you should look into becoming a motivational speaker or something.”
“You have to accentuate the positive in life sometimes.”
“That’s funny.” Levi rubs his chin in thought. “I’ve definitely heard that somewhere.”
“You probably have.”
Levi smirks, contemplating his next move when his eyes wander to a mark on her wrist. It’s dark, a couple inches long, and vaguely resembles some sort of symbol. Without hesitation, he bluntly asks about it, the thought of whether or not it’s an inappropriate question never crossing his mind.
“Is there a story behind that scar on your wrist?”
Mikasa merely shakes her head, unmoved by the sudden query. “Only a relatively boring one.”
She leans closer to where he’s sitting, extending her arm and allowing for him to trace along the small indentation. “It’s a… family thing,” she says, breaking the intermittent silence.
His fingers continue lightly tracing along its short length, smooth to the touch. Funny how he’s never noticed it before.
Strange, he thinks to himself. Now he ponders the possibility of penning a song about it.
“So,” Mikasa whispers, drawing him out of his momentary daze, “when you do make it big, are you going to write a song about me?”
Okay, now she’s flirting. Teasing him rather with such irresistible charm ringing in her voice.
Levi realizes he hasn’t let go of her hand yet, and regardless if it’s the buzz or just his attraction to her, he’s not sure he wants to.
He suppresses another smirk. That’s right. She doesn’t know; that he’s written a few songs about her already.
But he doesn’t tell her that. He chooses to keep that to himself, replying in a low quiet voice.
“Maybe,” he finally mumbles, looking up at her, his gaze landing on the scar below her eye. He’s noticed this one in particular on a few occasions. It grazes just above the cheek, resting beneath dark lashes and wisps of jet-black hair. He’s unsure if he should ask about its origins, but something about the way she’s looking at him with seemingly innocent curiosity urges him to fulfill his desire to get to know more about her.
Levi ignores the tension growing tighter and tighter throughout his body, realizing no one has ever made him feel this way. He struggles trying to put it into words, frustrated that he can’t properly articulate the sensation raging beneath his calm demeanor.
“What about… this one?” he asks, reaching out to stroke the scar nestled below her eye.
Mikasa slightly shudders, but surprisingly doesn’t pull away. She lets his hand hover over the scar, his fingers tracing gently along as he had with the mark on her wrist.
She could cop it out to them being alone, secluded in a corner with dangerously low lighting. She could blame it on the alcohol, mere tipsy antics.
But she’s not naïve.
“Story for another day,” comes her response in a smooth, sultry voice.
Levi nods, understanding.
He wants to kiss her. He’s never been more hell-bent on kissing someone in his entire life, but he likes to think he has some semblance of self-control and patience; unlike his rowdy band-mates.
Then, to his ultimate demise, she does something that drives him absolutely crazy.
She bites her lip, as if in suspense, and he pretty much loses it.
He closes the already tight gap between them and presses his mouth against hers, indulging in the incredible warmth. She responds almost immediately by parting her lips, inviting his tongue to slide inside. She tastes like lime, and something unidentifiably sweet. It spurs him to pull her in closer, sliding his hand up to her jaw, cupping her face in his palm.
Somehow he feels dizzier, and her wandering hands and the way she bites his bottom lip playfully further intensify this heated lip lock.
They’re still kissing like long lost lovers when the clock strikes two in the morning. Patrons start to file out through the exit one by one. The bartender begins wiping down the counters. The remaining staff members commence the usual closing routine.
Mikasa pulls away, playfully chastising the both of them for staying out well past their bedtimes. “Can’t believe I’ve been here all night,” she sighs. It’s almost a gasp, though she doesn’t appear too shocked.
“Got a curfew?” Levi deadpans, eyelids heavy. He finds it amusing that she’s more concerned over something as trivial as the hour rather than drunkenly kissing someone she barely knows.
Although during their heavy makeout session, it honest to god really felt like he had known her forever.
Mikasa rolls her eyes. “No, I’m just never usually out this late, is all.”
“Ahhh.” Levi exhales, expecting her to bid him goodnight and promptly ditch his ass without further ado.
He’s taken aback when she grabs him by the hand and begins hauling away for the exit.
What was she thinking about? What was she planning? Levi has a guess, but decides not to assume anything just yet. They awkwardly stumble out onto the street and Mikasa makes an attempt to hail a cab right there off the main drag.
“What’s on your mind?” He feigns uncertainty.
“I was kind of thinking I wanted to take you to-go,” she replies softly but oh-so-sure of herself. “Unless you had other plans…”
Levi merely nods his head, the words straining to dispel from his mouth, only to be suppressed by the tender look in her eye. The lights of cars zooming by hone in on the enticingly dark and mysterious features sheathed within.
Ultimately, he wordlessly agrees to follow, figuring nothing else needs to be said.
Wouldn’t want to keep her waiting.
Years later…
When Levi does make it big, he seems to be the only one out of his small circle of friends that’s surprised. Many were certain it was his calling; that catching a lucky break and garnering all the fame and recognition had been predestined.
From his own perspective, however, he’s simply doing what he loves, and insists on keeping himself grounded.
Maintaining a low profile is nearly impossible for the musician especially with the recent release of a new album, spawning a surge in popularity among fans from coast to coast. People stop and fawn all over him when he’s just trying to take his dog out for a walk, or when he’s making a coffee run in the early mornings before recording at the studio.
He hates it. He really does.
But like someone once told him, he uses his voice for more than just the purpose of entertainment. He advocates for causes he has strong beliefs in and vocalizes support for various organizations that strive for the betterment of society as a whole. It’s one of the few things that keep him sane, convincing him the fame isn’t a total nightmare. Sure, it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be, but he’s grateful the opportunity to help make a difference is there.
A blinding flash jolts his senses back to the present. Today marks the first day of his nation-wide tour, commencing the long trek from home over a span of three months.
As he’s done far more times than he can count, Levi steps up to the microphone, other band members setting up behind him. Unlike the small suffocating venues from before, he’s standing on a giant outdoor stage, unmoved by the masses of screaming people shouting their praises in anticipation for the upcoming concert.
The crowd’s ready, but he’s still getting in the moment, the wild ruckus blurring into low distant hums.
Before he gives the nod to his fellow mates, Levi takes a moment to let out a deep breath, eyes roaming about the entire stadium.
It’s another giant sea of faces; people with names he’ll never know, with lives he’ll never learn about.
He’s taken back to that fateful night at the Colossal Bar. The night Mikasa came to watch him for the first time.
He’s disappointed that her face isn’t among those in the crowd like it was then. None of this would have been possible without her; it’s all meaningless to him otherwise. He glances down at the silver wedding band fitted on his left ring finger, thinking a part of her is still with him even when he’s away on tour.
A half-smile fades as quickly as it appears. He’s ready for the long night ahead of him.
Mikasa, his beautiful muse, his best friend, his wife, might not be there to watch him and his band perform all the heartfelt and deep songs he’s written about her all these years, but he’s immensely satisfied to know that she’ll be there when he finally comes home, waiting for him like she always does.
It’s the only thing that matters.

So, the Sanremo final strikes in a few hours, we will choose tonight the song that will represent us at the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev and, trying to keep my anxiety and excitement at bay, I decided to write down my top 10 for this really interesting year, even if a bit late
I’ll give them 1-12 points in Eurovision style
- Special mention for Giusy Ferreri who got eliminated on the fourth night without entirely deserving it but heh, if she had bothered to sing well from the start and not only the last night…I was super curious to see how Europe would react to her voice lol 1 - Sergio Sylvestre (big boy has quite a voice but he feels more comfortable singing in English rather than Italian, we all know it and we can all hear it. The song is a bit slow at some points but his voice explosions get him into my top 10) 2 - Raige and Giulia Luzi (lol I know, their lyrics were horrible but the music was nice and enjoyable, a real guilty pleasure, dirty, naughty, catchy…I’m a bit sad they didn’t get past the third night) 3 - Elodie (I usually don’t like her songs and her voice isn’t THAT impressive to me, but both things change in this song. It’s actually listenable, and she is good) 4 - Michele Zarrillo (outdated, sure, boring at some points, sure, but the rest is so cute and sweet, he is experienced - he participated in Sanremo like a shit ton of times but never won - and has a nice voice) 5 - Bianca Atzei (95% of the chunk of Italian ESC fandom with whom I followed and commented Sanremo totally HATE both her and the song lol I don’t agree, not completely at least, I LOVE the refrain - which is saying something given how much I can’t stand the author of this song) 6 - Fiorella Mannoia (if you look up on a dictionary the definition of class and elegance on a stage you probably get Fiorella as result, with her low, creamy voice and her hair still flaming red after all these years. Song is a typical Fiorella song, nice and meaningful, but I fear this one falls a bit flat at points…I blame the fact that it has been terribly overhyped in the days before the contest) 7 - Paola Turci (I don’t know much about her but damn she’s cool, she’s like 50something and she’s probably the hottest female in the competition lol the song is powerful and has a nice meaning) 8 - Michele Bravi (this song has a big problem. It never EVER takes off, not even with the refrain. Which is why I didn’t like it at first listening, and I still do think it’s missing something. But the lyrics are poetic af and he sings them in such delicate tone and voice that he’s up here now) 10 - Francesco Gabbani (this guy either is totally crazy or wants everyone to think he is. Or both. But oh he is a great and entertaining performer. The problem I have with sending this to Kiev is that great part of Europe will just think of it as a joke entry because of the monkey when actually he writes very intelligent, well thought lyrics full of society and pop references while hiding them into fun and catchy tunes. He would probably get recognition, but for all the wrong reasons. Still great though, I won’t complain if he wins, and he probably will) 12 - Ermal Meta (so, he’s an albanian-naturalised-italian songwriter who has written famous songs for Italian artists 10000000 times more famous than he is, but who a good 80% of Italy probably didn’t even know could sing until last year lol there is not a single problem I can find in this song, the music is great, it obviously has great lyrics, it has a great message, which he actually cares a lot about, the refrain gets stuck in your head as does the rest of the song, and his VOICE damn like I know most people find it annoying and I can even see why but I swear it does something to my body idk…I have been rooting for him since when his name popped out of Carlo Conti’s contestants list, I’m so happy he didn’t disappoint and I want him to win so much)
Can’t wait to see how things turn out!
…and just because the excitement wasn’t enough, there’s also Sweden’s Melodifestivalen part 2 to deal with tonight.
