like everything else that’s lost nuance these days, literary criticism is only allowed to have two extremes camps of people who either (1) get so protective of their favourite media that they’re blind to its inherent qualities, good and bad, and seek to drown out anyone else who might be interested in exploring it or (2) tear down entire works with a few buzzwords like ‘pretentious’, ‘unhealthy’, &c.
