my guilty pleasure trope is like. trash reality dating show au LOL

like you and bakugou on love island ??? HELLO ???? he is 100% the show-stopper that comes in as a twist at the very end, after everyone is already coupled up. thinking they're happy in their pair. ready to move forward and get to know one another. AND THEN BAM. bakugou katsuki. huge and tan and toned. probably a firefighter or something, been single for a long time because he finds it hard to put himself out there — and coming on live, national television was the perfect way to get himself out of his comfort zone LOL

let's say. you're coupled up with denki and you love it ! he's great and funny and charming and will make someone happy — but that someone is just not you. from the get-go, your relationship feels more friendly than anything, but he doesn't try to cop a feel on you in bed and he's a good snuggler and maybe you kiss him once, just to see how it feels, and that's not so bad either. but there are no sparks, no fireworks. you'd be content to even ride out the rest of the challenge in a couple, because he's comfortable, but that's not what either of you came on the show for.

after the first week, bakugou couples up with jirou. her sharp wit and dry humor draws him in enough (and he's always kind of liked that edgy look that she has) — but he very quickly realizes that she's really not that into him POOR GUY. bakugou really isn't her type; besides finding his attitude funny every now and again, they really don't have much in common. don't do much of the same things, share hobbies or interests, so it's a little bit of a bust.

i like to think you're just friends for a week or two. another guy comes in, two new girls come in, but nothing really changes for either of you. keeping your respective couples, just because no one else has really caught your interest — and it's not until a challenge has you kissing him square on the mouth that either of you start to take a second glance across the villa.

you watch him work out in the mornings, make a second cup of tea for when he's done. somehow, you both always end up in the same section, leaning back in the lawn chairs or sitting side-by-side on the beanbags as you chat about how the challenge has been going so far for either of you.

the part of this trope that is so funny to me is that — bakugou really is not the kind of guy that should be on this show LOL he's hard to approach and intimidating and if you don't understand his attitude, then you won't like him. and what little game he has isn't played like this: approaching someone in front of everyone else, nabbing you from your couple, having to put himself out there so that he doesn't get sent home. all while on live television.

but — it's not until you admit, casually one day, that you and denki are just friends that he decides to do anything about it. the two of you have gotten along so well in your couple that bakugou didn't think he stood a chance but after talking to you, he's awkwardly telling kaminari in the kitchen, alone, that he's planning on pursuing you. and denki thinks that's great ! thinks you deserve it !

the week continues on much the same: you and bakugou chat here and there, eat breakfast together away from everyone else, he makes you laugh and you make him smile his crooked little smile at the floor, embarrassed, as he tucks his face and pulls his hat further over his eyes. it's cute and you're having fun with him, but the recoupling is surprising, still.

when he has to stand up there, in front of everyone, red-faced, and grit out that you've caught his eye, that he's enjoyed his time with you, that he'd like to get to know you better — and you're floored. ecstatic, but floored. because he is certainly intimidating, and regardless of the fact that you were with kaminari for so long, you might not have ever approached bakugou, because he's just. so huge and handsome and striking.

and then you're settling in for the night, crawling in to your shared bed for this first time. and he's not like denki, not a cuddler, but you still make a point to wiggle around to him, wait until the lights are off and even breathing sounds throughout the room — and then you tell him, quietly, grinning in the dark:

"i'm really glad you picked me."

you feel bakugou sigh, a bit heavy, and you wonder if you're going in to strong — but then his hand skates over your arm, rests carefully against your hip, and he murmurs, "'m really glad, too."

i wrote this a lil bit ago and have since been made aware of luna's love island bkg !! 🥺 it's so detailed !! there's a whole show for the two of them !!

brOTP hes so malleable, u can put him with everyone. but him with shinsou as friends is like. theyre the kind who just doesnt say anything when they hang out theyre jst playing some lame shit like league of legends with each other on their phones in complete silence. and i like that v much. i think him w todoroki is v good, obviously, but the awkward phase between them has to be emphasized really well like him n tdrk is two people with very shit and very little socializing experience they will be doing the whole friend thing wrong, but endearingly. do i make sense. like they have to be shit at being friends, but together

OTP izuocha is cute tbh. hes a good blend with any characters i can picture him w anybody except bkg. i do think hes the kind who gets friendzoned (not in a "bad" way! this is actually his superpower) bc hes friend-shaped n sweet. his peers look at him and see "friend" first before they see "potential crush" oh wait wiat wait oh my goddd him with that guy from that fucking movie HIM WITH RODYYYYY !! THAT SHIT WAS SO REAL that it was RIDICULOUSS that was so so so real

atla au pls 😳😳

ok not sure if u mean atla au as in they're the characters or just that they're living in the ALTA universe but i have decided to do the second one because bkdk doesnt really fit any of the atla ships i like

ok i think bakugou would be a firebender because that's the closest thing to explosions there is, an explosion is like cooler fire i guess. and deku would be an earthbender and would totally learn to master metalbending as well cause like. its deku

bkg was born into a rich noble family in the fire nation, but they moved to govern an earth colony when bkg was very young. he went to school at an earth nation school and met deku there, and they grew up childhood friends. everyone knew bkg was fire nation and kind of avoided him, but deku stuck around

when bkg was fourteen or so he was sent to go to a fire nation boarding school to train as a warrior, and him and deku had gotten really close by then. bkg says goodbye to deku and promises he'll come back, but both of them know that's pretty unlikely considering the war situation (this takes place during the events of ATLA and right before and after). so bkg leaves and neither him nor deku know when they'll see each other next

by the time deku and bkg are 18 the war has ended and the fire nation is chill now, so bkg is able to go back to the earth kingdom as he was forced to stay in the fire nation as a soldier during the war. as soon as he can he goes back to the earth kingdom, and brings his very good firebender friend kaminari with him. they find ochako the waterbender on their way and they're both obsessed with bkgs "quest to find his long lost lover" as they call it (i just want kamiocha in this ok)

anyway they all get to the earth nation and deku has his good friend kirishima whos a pro bender in that underground earth benderfighting ring and immediately takes a liking to bkg "oh, you're that kacchan he always talks about." he takes bkg to see deku and they have a very happy reunion. they get together almost immediately after that and they all live happily ever after in deku's section of the earth kingdom just being happy.

wow that was actually a good story i made on the spot. kinda really fun. its up for grabs if someone wants to write it lol...go wild yall

willow!! i so love the way you characterise our faves 🥺💗 it’s spot on every time!!! as someone who writes as well, i honestly find it so intimidating to tackle complex characters (for me: bakugo, gojo, ++) & am amazed every time i read your works bc hOW ?????? you write them so well 🥹 forgive me for this q&a but!! are there any characters that you find are a bit intimidating because of their complexity? who? and how do you navigate characterising them 😳

omg tysm !!! 🥺🥺🥺 i really, really appreciate this bc characterization is probably the most important thing to me, when i'm writing !!! 🥺 and so to be complimented over it feels so like I'VE BEEN WITNESSED !!!! ajfhejak you're so kind, thank you truly 🥺🥺🩷✨️

BUT OH MAN i'm so afraid to write for so many because of their depth !!! gojo is a big one !! though i've started kicking him around in my head a bit more, he still intimidates me SO MUCH bc his character and trauma and backstory, how it all manifests into his personality, how that would translate romantically — it's all SO COMPLEX AJFJDKA so 👀 he scares me quite a bit 👀 but others would be like hawks, deku, aki, yuuta, shouto is another BIG one — though i literally just posted something for him LOL — toji, too !

characterization is honestly just so fun for me, like i love anything that's going to test how i specifically view a character, and i love trying to fit them into specific situations and seeing how i would justify their reactions ! i feel like in order for me to feel confident writing for a character, i just have to really understand them, like their goals in their stories, their friendships, how they form bonds, how they are socially compared to how their emotions are portrayed, what struggles they've overcome and how that would shape their personality, their fears and deep desires, etc. it's a lot !! so it's why i can only write a handful of characters at a time ajfheja bc then there's just so much space in my brain being taken by all the little hc's i have LOL

i think reading A LOT for them helps, as well !! and that's usually the first thing i do, because it's like research ! and i read from many different writers so that i'm not getting the same characteristics over and over again, and then once i kind of understand some of the more common themes they're written with, i start making connections between their personality and personal beliefs, fears, wants, etc. their past !

another thing that i actually think helps is like — writing so many au's LOL bc one thing about me, i'm gonna write an au akfhskak but i feel like if you take a character out of their world and stuff them into another, you still have to keep their core personality consistent or else you're just writing for some original character with a known and loved face slapped over it. but things can still be a little bit different, ofc, because THAT au character is going to have a different backstory than the original, so that will shape the personality some.

like for example, werewolf bakugou is a bit rougher and tougher than canon bkg, because he's LITERALLY a werewolf LOL and he's got those animalistic tendencies, plus all that he went through when that change affected his life. there's no all might or edge shot or anything like that, but !! he's got his own issues !!! .....maybe that's why i like au's so much, bc it's just another characterization test LOL
